All right, welcome into another in our series of year in review
podcast here on the horse racing happy hour.
My name is Luis Roberto. I'm pleased to be joined by one
of the glitterati of horse racing Twitter.
His he is at denominates man on Twitter.
His name is Dan tordjman. He is a br.
Of course America's best racing in one of the cofounders of a
quest for Khan, which my co-host Mega Divine has nothing but
tremendously nice things to say about and frankly about you Dan
as well. And how are you good?
Yeah Megan's on the payroll. Ha ha ha.
I appreciate that from her doing.
Well, how you doing? I'm doing great enjoying my
quiet basement here in Louisville away from my children
who are doing home school right now.
I am deep in Three Sons homeschooling right now, which
is it's it's a thing man. I'll tell you what, it's it's
own deal. So hope things are good.
They're in New York. I wanted to have you on because
you are actually an eclipse folder right?
I am yeah. How long have you been doing
that? Yeah, I want to say this is my
sixth year voting. Well, it started out as a writer
for Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred magazine.
And and then I continue to obviously writing contribute to
America's best racing cool and we have a long time listener of
our show. His name is Mike Mills in Mike
tweeted me he crawls medium. Let's say and he wanted me to
ask you as a voter. Was it harder this year to nail
down more? categories than usual Yeah, you
know, I think I think it was I think some of the categories,
you know this year with the exception of horse of the year
and three-year-old three-year-old male were a
little less obvious to me this year.
And I think there are probably multiple reasons for that.
I think the racing calendar obviously as we know it was
pretty disjointed. We had some stops and starts in
the spring coming out of Winter the Triple Crown.
L was all messed up, but beyond beyond that, you know, you had a
lot of stakes races that were kind of grouped together on the
calendar more so than they had been in past years and you know,
you had horses who actually did some pretty good stuff earlier
in the year who might have been forgotten about later in the
year that came up. For example for me would like
male Turf horse Zulu Alfa forget that he won the Pegasus World
Cup Turf, right, right, of course palpable to start the
year. Because so much happened, right
2020 felt like 20 years combined into one so, you know think
parsing, you know parsing through kind of what happened
earlier or later and then also factoring in some of the
storylines I think is also similar way as a voter like how
much do you just strictly depend on on data and the numbers and
the results and how much do you weigh in and Factor storylines
kind of overcoming adverse conditions and this year to be
blue? I mean you had you know
questions about you know, racing integrity and you know, a horse
is failing failing tests. And and how did you weigh?
And how did you apply that in your decision for you know
voting for or against some of the horses so I have one comment
and then I have one question so is interesting that you say
looking back at what horses did early in the year and we talked
about this on the show actually in that we hated that it felt
like the eclipse award. We're sort of turning into.
Oh you did well in the Breeders Cup, here's a statue and you
know, it's totally right that you know, the early part of the
year was ooh off especially, you know having that kind of year.
I think Swiss skydiver Looking Back Now over her spring all the
travel winning over different tracks and all those different
things was really a remarkable part of this year's.
I think she raced in seven different states something like
that and you know, and so I think we lose those things as we
look just toward the fall and it part of that of course was that
we launched a bunch of the Two-thirds of the Triple Crown
in the fall as well. You're right.
But okay. So you mention the Integrity
stuff did that play into how you voted for trainer to a certain
extent? You know, I you know, look, I
know that this year, you know, all eyes have been on Bob
baffert and rightfully so in you know, it's not just this year.
I mean there are there has there been past instances where you
know, Kind of scratch your head and say well, you know, that's
not good. Right?
Obviously, he's always been well equipped with with responses and
justifications for for for past drug failures and other issues
that have come up with his horses, you know, but then
again, you know, I don't know that there are many people at
the top of the list and from what the offerings were in terms
of the top performers this year. It haven't had some Of Suspicion
over them at some point if not this past year and I'll tell you
for example the person I voted for with Steve asmussen.
And as Joe Stephen asked me Stephen is it has not lived a
spotless career, right? He asked me to stop in the
training ranks. And so it's difficult.
I mean that was one of the the categories where kind of went
back and forth and I said, you know to the best of my ability
this year. 20 factoring in you know, all transgressions and
potential transgressions that can be logically deduced and
factoring in accomplishment. Who do I rank up top?
So it was kind of one of those it was in an exact science, but
I came up with Steve asmussen and you know, I feel comfortable
with that selection and you know look Bob baffert, I guess in a
normal year you can look at his over. accomplishments and you
look at the fact that he trained, you know the horse
who's going to be the horse of the year and obviously the top
three year old and you know, you could say, you know what, he
should get it based on that alone, you know in addition to
everything else and you know, let alone good mean and you
know, you know, it's whole roster, but I just it just
didn't feel right to me this year in particular and so yeah
certainly factored in but but but I didn't feel like you know
that there There were any necessarily feel good choices
once I took a close look at it, and I just I think I sword sort
of did that this sort of meld of statistics and and and factoring
in other circumstances as best I could to come up with what the
person in that category if someone made a case for a horse
other than authentic to be horse of the year, which horse do you
think it is? You know again, I think I think
it's comes down to whether you're when you're weighing more
heavily statistics or whether you're weighing more heavily
sort of sentiment and favorite story.
You know, I thought is the law which was a pretty complete
package. I mean if you ask me, you know,
sort of mid-july going into August like, you know, who is
going to win or even in August who was going to win of course
of the year and top three year old I would have said Tis the
law. Obviously he didn't Finish it as
strongly as authentic did and you know, I think recency also
plays into it. So, you know that that obviously
gives authentic an edge and then you know, the only other for me
logical I thought I mean you meant us with skydiver.
I think there's certainly like a story line there.
But and look she won the Preakness I mean which is, you
know, not exactly like just a storyline to make she won.
You know, one of the Premier gray one events for for 3 year
old males and the females, you know.
Unbelievable time and frankly heads up against authentic,
right? Yeah.
Exactly. So I think there was a there was
there's potentially a case to be made there.
And then again just in terms of a storyline you love seeing
horses like Monomoy girl, right, you know who can do it says it's
not as if she's like eight years old, right, but like we're so
used to like not seeing horses like that race past their
three-year-old season anymore, especially with you know the up
You know the breeding potential and the upside on our so yeah, I
think monologue girl's story overall was an interesting one
as well. So yeah, I mean I couldn't in
good conscience not vote for authentic, but I think the other
three that I mentioned, you know, if someone voted for the
other three as their Top Choice, I wouldn't necessarily, you
know, have a bad word form - all right.
So I think one of the more interesting categories Ismail
Sprinter and I think Again with you having mentioned this
already. There's the statistical analysis
and then there's Whitmore, right?
You know, I think would be really were you I actually don't
know Dan. Did you get to get to we were
very fortunate we got to do some radio stuff.
And so we were at Breeders Cup this year with the show.
Did you get to make it to keep them this year?
I did not but was so yeah, we did a little Megan no remote,
right. So yeah.
Oh, that's right. I remember I'm sorry.
And so my you know, it was really interesting.
Because where we were was essentially just owners and for
example of Equus owners set with set, you know say with us but
you know several several roads of way or whatever and it was
interesting to watch the spirit because you could tell people
were very happy that Whitmore one, right?
Even if it was, you know, not in their ownership group or you
know something that they had on their ticket or what have you
but just that you know, he bucked the track Trend and you
know came from off the pace and all those things it was so
interesting to watch people be Did for for Rob McClendon, you
know for that group and do you imagine a scenario where he ends
up winning just because people like that horse and they've been
able to watch him in a like you mentioned breeding is so
important you get this gelding he runs if what seems like for
two decades right? And so he runs all over the
place and he runs in the slop and he runs, you know in New
York in Louisiana in this case at Keeneland and could you see
the scenario where he ends up winning?
I can I actually I voted for myself and And you know, look
there's also this debate of you know that you kind of touched on
earlier. Like do you just award a you
know an eclipse to a horse just because they won the Breeders
Cup in that division 41 this friends, but he just wanted you
know, I don't think I necessarily awarded to him just
based on that alone. But you know, he had a great
through win earlier in the year was completely was obviously
more than competitive in the grade 1 against against volatile
who probably was was out was on his way to actually win this
award. Lord, you know before before the
injury and so, you know for me it was like he was second best
to volatile and he won the Breeders Cup Sprint and you
know, he didn't necessarily get get his way and I thought at
least I mean I factored in you know, I mean, I'm not going to
make go back and watch, you know, get make trip excuses for
every horse in every division, but I did enough during the year
and was competitive earlier in the year as well again, we
forget that he started off the year with three really strong.
Races including a grade 3 win and then when you look at the
other competition there just wasn't that much there wasn't a
clear stand. I thought of a coma obviously
that's that you can make an argument for but technically I
mean the Metropolitan when the Met mile was, you know, that's
at a mile. And so, you know, it's a great
one. And then other than that, the
two sprints were both really nice wins including just a
blowout win the Carter. But you know kid I give it to
bakoma just based on that. I didn't think that that was
right either. I thought that that's looking at
the whole body of work with more did more throughout the year.
And certainly when you factor in the storyline, there's no better
storyline than that. What more I thought personally
he should have won the the vox populi award.
I thought that yeah, you know, he was I thought he was the fans
horse this year. I agree.
I was surprised that that didn't come down that way as well.
All right. So what do you do when you look
at jockey and how you vote for table jockey is that more of a
statistical thing? Is it you remember certain rides
and you think you know, wow, I remember you just remember
somehow every time I read touched a horse It sped up twice
as that's just it was going previously or goodness.
Gracious. How does for Al's room fight his
way through I mean like I don't think about those things.
Yeah, like I did. Couple things to consider right?
If you look at the raw numbers for irad, you know, like, you
know having 300 wins on the year.
You're like, oh that's just ridiculous.
Right like he talks when but then again you look at the fact
that he rode over almost almost 1300 races during the year
Johnny V Road less than half the amount of races that I read one
and only 100 races so, you know not Not quite, you know, he
wasn't obviously didn't have a trajectory to win as many races
had he actually had as many Mounds but the race is he won
were obviously extremely important ones.
And so I think he tried it you try to factor it all in I kind
of went into this you're thinking look we all know irad
statistically is, you know, can't be touched this past year,
but I was like thinking you know, what like Johnny's put
together a hell of a year reached a personal Milestone as
well during the year. He's an elite company and you
know, you know She just you know, given his age and given
everything else the fact that he's performing such a high
level should also be credited that being said even though I
went in with the mindset like I think I'm going to give it to
Johnny. I looked at the raw numbers
again, and I just couldn't get past irad.
So I voted for. All right.
No, there you go. I remember this happening when I
actually don't know how old you are damn.
But when Steve Nash won the MVP award and it was really clear
that Shaquille O'Neal was the most valuable player in the NBA
that year right and people were just like we gotta give it to
somebody other than Shaq, right? That's I wonder if some of these
right with some of these you just eventually go.
All right, how many times does I read need to win this award and
we just give it to someone like trying to be who we know is
tremendously talented and you know does his homework and is an
unbelievable shape for his age, especially and all those things.
So yeah how much Steeplechase racing to you watch?
Um, look, I don't I don't want Steeplechase racing.
I don't follow the circuit in the past.
I've Truly, you know, I've sent a note to a couple people.
I know who are pretty close to the circle follow it just to get
some of their perspective. And for those who don't know
what happens is before the eclipse awards.
At least I think a month before the voting deadline all the
voters get a packet with the past performances candidates.
And so it's not like the voters go into this thing, you know
completely cold and just kind of like so Source, you know horses
or whatever and try to figure out okay, you know, let me
figure out who was best like they really do provide you with
a packet that kind of condenses everything and the same goes for
the Steeplechase category. So had they had they not
provided in and if they didn't provide it on a yearly basis and
be very tough for me to like actually look at what's in front
of me and make sense of it. So do every year actually vote
in this category. Well, I know a lot of boaters
abstain from it. I think you know that I look at
it kind of Definitely, I think that it's an honor and privilege
to be voting and to be allowed to vote.
And so I actually put in as much energy and effort as I can to
try to to vote in every category.
And so I do vote in the Steeplechase category.
I appreciate you understanding my humor, but also that I wanted
you to walk us through how you came to a decision on a kind of
no because it's in there in and I know it's you know, there are
Saratoga cards that start with the Steeplechase race, right?
You know that you know the eighth the eighth It jump races
and those sorts of things. And so I mean, I think that's my
only exposure to Steeplechase racing during the year, but the
same thing for Apprentice jockey.
Do you feel like you you actually have a good grasp on
Who The Apprentice jockey is or is it more based on numbers?
Yeah, you know II actually it's my favorite category and like I
think it's like I'm always like quietly and rage when I see
people abstaining from that category.
Yes. I'm like, I'm like, how could
you not I'm like that's such an important because for me like
when I look at the rest of the categories, I think about the
recipients the potential recipients, you know for the
horses. It's the owners right and it's
it's people who in many cases have had like successes in their
careers and they're in there and they're well established people
and yeah, it's great. They get a little plaque they
could put on the mantle and you know for you know, for other
categories like the trainer's like or the jockeys.
It's a lot of the same people year after year.
And so okay. It's another Accolade for The
Apprentice jockeys. I mean, this is really not only
the first opportunity. They have to to grab some
hardware and to be acknowledged but it's also something that
could be a stepping stone for their career.
And so I feel like this is such an important Category 3 like I
love this category and I love again factoring in weighing, you
know wins earnings what circuit they were on, you know, how you
know how aggressive were they and their approach to you know
to you know to compete on a you know on a bigger on a bigger
stage as an apprentice. Um, you know, did they play it
safe? Were they you know, where they
one of these jockeys who you know and who goes from riding
one track at night a day to another track at night how much
effort and how much you know Blood Sweat and Tears that they
put in and I think that you know, I think could Factor all
those things in addition to the statistics and and come up with
with you know with with somebody who's deserving and I'm also I
should say those who know me like I'm a guy I'm from New York
I live in New York now, but I lived in Maryland for a while.
I've got strong Maryland Roots my wife's from Maryland.
I started racing at Laurel and so, you know many people.
I mean a lot of people probably know that like Maryland has been
a breeding ground for like, you know, great jockeys and the lips
award The Apprentice one in particular has like, you know,
so many years gone to to a rider who came up to the Mid-Atlantic
circuit and specifically in Maryland and so like we really
take pride in Apprentice jockeys trunk, you know, so for me, I
love the category. I actually did not go with the
local jockey. I went with a jockey who I
thought was a really cool story and international story The
Armory Correia. I thought I thought her
statistics were absolutely spectacular for the year.
And you know, I think you know in body of work over 700 starts,
you know in your in your Apprentice here and-- she was
just all over it. I mean she got hit.
The board I think in in about half of our races to which is
also incredible and no knock on people like Alexander Crispin
who may eventually who may ultimately wanted.
He's actually tearing things up right now at Laurel Road in
Delaware for I believe a good part of last year.
And then the Louis Cardenas has been spectacular to another, you
know, and Charlie Marquez, you know, both of them have you know
have been riding on in the New York circuit, right?
So, you know, they deserve credit for that as well.
Yeah, I think those are the top three and I do I actually think
I think your armor is going to win.
I think she's actually going to get it.
So be interesting to see did you you said you had a vote for I
did end up loading area cool. All right.
So let's let's rapid-fire through these and then I'm going
to ask you some off the off the board questions.
So you have authentic as your horse of the year.
And then as your three-year-old male a su and then as it was
skydiver, your three-year-old Philly she is.
Yeah. Okay.
All right. Was it close?
Not really. I think that was one where again
statistically combining in some of the other sort of extenuating
circumstances, you know, specifically I'm assuming, you
know, a lot of people may have weighed could mean as a
potential. Yes, you know Challenger there
for me was it was suicide ever? Yeah, I agree with you.
I think winning The Preakness is more impressive than winning.
The Breeders Cup race that give me one.
All right. So older dirt male this is
actually one that we haven't talked about.
Did you go improbable? I did go and probable and you
should know like like it's so hard to like separate out like
my personal but you got to do this right because you're doing
this just you know, as best as you can with as much Integrity
as you can like you should know that the Breeders Cup, I played
the Pick Five ending the classic obviously and I put together a
ticket that had you know, the 75 to One winner order of
Australia. I had Whitmore.
I was only three deep in that in that race.
I singled The Filly in the turf turn Allah and I was alive to
half the field in the classic to payouts ranging from 40,000 to
half a million dollars and and I had improbable who of course
finished second to authentic. I left authentic off my ticket.
So and that was not the first time that improbable has has let
me down and nearly been my ticket to a massive school.
And so that was that was a tough loss but nonetheless.
Looking at his whole body of work.
I thought it was much much improved this year.
Definitely matured a little bit. He always kind of hung a little
bit last year and I just felt was like not never quite reached
his potential. I thought he had an incredible
year and I thought for me was you was pretty clear cut that
was that was one that that I felt pretty confident.
There's no chance she listens but Megan's Kryptonite in horse
racing is improbable because apparently she was with a group
and and his Derby here at said bed improbable.
It's going to happen. He's the guy and then she wrote
at him for a year and nothing happened and that of course is a
four-year-old. He starts hitting and then she
goes with him again in the classic and then nothing and so,
you know, it's all right. Yeah.
There you go. That is just absolutely her
total Kryptonite horse, I think and so older female did you end
up going with Mom or girl? I think there was a case for
Serengeti Empress this year. Yeah.
I went with modern web girl. I love I love everything that
Tom and that teams have done with Serengeti Empress.
She just really easy easy horse. Root for and showing some range
this year, right? Obviously last year with the
Oaks win ran some really nice race is going longer when she
could settle things down the front end this year.
She just showed another gear. I mean she does run faster than
we've ever seen her go before and she maintained that she held
she fought she fought a lot of tough battles and even when she
didn't win she was right there. So what I would not be
disappointed to see Serengeti get some first-place votes, but
I think Mama girl probably win this one I agree with you.
So, alright, let's let's get away from you.
Let's talk. Did you have a favorite race
this year? That's a good question.
Yeah, I think I think would have had to been the Preakness just
based on like the excitement of the race and the finish.
It was just a lot of fun to you know to watch that battle.
You kind of any any sort of sustained stretch tool is one
that is a lot of fun. I'm trying to think like if
there's like a race like, you know, I didn't have a great year
betting usually my mind goes to like the races.
I made the most money on of course.
But this was not my best your wedding.
I did have a good Pegasus world's couple and all and then
to Zulu Alfa that really stood out to me in particular that I
scored quite nicely on that race.
And so I thought that was a fun race and you know, I think for
me when I think of the story lines in this year, I mean, I'd
also think about you know, some of the people who we talked
about top jockey and all that Tyler Gaffney own.
I think he took his game to the next level this year and I'm
thinking about him in particular, you know as a
release the Zulu Alfa But you know just really throughout the
year. Like I think in my mind I was
like, you know, he's really a great care provider, you know,
and this is again coming off a year.
He won the Preakness last year to write but he really I think
he's just rounded into a really really great Rider and he takes
a lot of crap some parts on social media from people but you
know all the jocks to overbill. Yeah, right.
I think he's got the potential to be to be in that really, you
know top top three to five right or conversation for the next 10
or 15 years. I think I'm about to say two
things that you're going to totally agree with.
I am a massive Preakness and Pimlico guy.
I love I adore both of them and I think it's because my family
so I was born in Detroit. I was raised in a different part
of Michigan, but my family is historically from the trade.
I want to say my dad's family has been there six Generations.
My mom like five and Baltimore just reminds me of Detroit.
It just feels very comfortable when I'm there.
I always say it's Detroit with a harbor.
And Pimlico reminds me of every Big Ten football stadium that I
grew up with and you know, uncomfortable seats and nothing
works and they may as well just put troughs in the bathroom, you
know, that kind of thing and I think that's why I love Pimlico
and but the previous covering it, you know, this is just so
much easier to cover the other races, right and it's you know,
and the people in that office are just so so it's so homey and
like they hand out the scratches.
They're handwritten right? I mean that kind of stuff right?
It's just so It's so it's so delightful and but I wanted to
say I think Dave Rodman's call of the Preakness is just about a
perfect race call and you know, the Philly shows the way they
settle for a bet you're settled out for Battle of Baltimore and
all that stuff and just how he builds a race and does those
things one of the the random things.
We had Matt determine on last week.
I said one of the cool things I think format is that as part of
the Stronach 5 now, it's like They go from Dave to him, right?
And so there's this like this weird Continuum between Laurel
and Golden Gate right that that Matt like is the is the bookend
with Dave Rodman and I think that's really cool because they
do have very different styles. But I think Dave is I love that
Pastrana Clive is kind of I think exposed him to more people
than was previously there because I think he's an
unbelievably underrated race caller.
Yeah you predicted correctly. I everything you just said and I
will say day. If you know is a guy, you know,
so I didn't grow up in horse racing.
I literally I am a Jewish kid from Brooklyn and my parents are
both from Morocco. And you know, I'm first
generation here no link to the sport.
I basically just just became a fan watching some races with my
dad when I was younger. I followed the sport and I
literally I have no family in the game or anything like that.
I it's all just through passion and love for it that I got into
it. And then I continue like just
living my dream with it and I could say that like what has
been really cool. And what is really sustain me
because like with anything else when you start doing what your
hobby is when we start doing your passion is it can always
just sort ultimately start start to feel like work and so there
are a lot of times and I'm like, you know, man like, you know,
this is this is turning to work or you know may not feel like
like I have as much pleasure on a day-to-day basis sometimes
because I am working so much but I will say the one thing that
that sort of persistent that last and that always gets you
through are the relationships that you build in the friends
that you make in this game and I I can't say enough about not
just a of but really all the folks in Maryland just that's
just like an incredible racing community that you know, when I
was getting into I was breaking in professionally, which is so
supportive. And one of the people that I
think of, you know first, what would be Dave who is always just
been you know, so approachable so friendly and again for a guy
who's so talented has been doing it for so long.
It doesn't have to be that nice right?
It doesn't have to be perfect imitating.
It's just so people should know like I mean, they always know
that you know, he's a great guy like Dave is truly like truly
truly truly like just a wonderful person and it's just
so nice to see him get his do especially after that call.
I was happy to see you actually won the ABR Fan Choice Award so
that for the best call the years the fans, you know voted for
them and overwhelmingly voted for them given opportunity.
Like, you know have a little bit of, you know, a little bit of
Spotlight. He definitely deserved it this
year that call was just I mean just definitely I mean It's
overused but gives you Goosebumps.
I mean every time you listen to it, it's just such a good call.
Yeah, it's also I someone who loves Pimlico I appreciate how
excited he gets every time the race is shipped to Baltimore to
right and so, you know, it's also identifiable.
I'm like you did I actually didn't get into horse racing.
So I'm 39. I'll be 40 in March I got into
horse race. We moved here 11 12 years ago to
Louisville, and I moved here and everyone said, so are you read
or are you blue and I said, I already went to college.
I don't need another. Each team and and I said, what's
the pro sports around here? And they said we don't do that
and I said, oh well, what's that big building over there?
And they said oh that's where the horses go in a circle and
it's all right. I'm going to figure that out.
And and so literally I got it a horse racing because there was
nothing else professional to figure out and it took me about
five years to really get into it.
And so I've really only been a fan fan for five or six years
and so so it's been that's been really great and I love meeting
other people that didn't Don't say things like oh, yeah.
My dad's a trainer, of course, come on, you know like everybody
everybody's dad is trainer, right?
Yeah, everybody's buying the bar at 4:15 when they were six years
old, right? And so, you know, of course we
had a goat growing up, you know, yeah, right and so, let's see
what no, that's no that's not how this works.
And so that's really cool. And I didn't I didn't know about
about you and I think that that's awesome.
Yeah. No, it's and look and I've got
nothing but love to from them shortly you as well many people
who Especially younger, you know, like younger trainers and
younger people who were like, you know who work in this game
if they had, you know, they had a link to the game.
They're born into a great. I mean that you know, it makes
sense. But I think I think people like
us who are sort of Outsiders. I think I think we kind of tell
unique story and we have a different sort of appreciation
for it because we didn't, you know, we didn't grow up around
it. And so that's really cool that
you that that you've got that you know that you kind of made
your way into this and I you know, obviously your passion is
super obvious from Sure thing to you and yeah for being on the
show total is no it's really fun.
All right, so best best Moroccan food.
What is it? Well, I gotta say it's my
grandmother's spicy spicy fish dish with with couscous on the
side. My grandmother is God bless her.
She said she still Kickin and well, she's cooking a little
less these days, but definitely work up a nice spicy salmon with
that with couscous. Saint olives and and and you
know, she could put together a nice tagine to with you know
with all together all the other fix in so yeah, it's look
Moroccan Foods great. I got you know, God bless my
wife Marty. She she's really embraced like
the culture as well and awesome. She's done her best to compete
with Grandma, you know, whatever she gets in the kitchen to sell.
I got God bless her for for trying and you know those tough
Moroccan women's hard to turn. Ha ha ha.
Oh man, that's awesome. So alright.
So again, he is dead tour German Anonymous man on Twitter part of
the glitterati. All right.
He's with a VR and of course co-founder of a cluster called
do you object to the term glitterati horse racing
glitterati? It hasn't been used in the same
context of me. And by the way, I gotta say I
didn't I didn't realize you were as old as you are you old man.
I'm actually I'm actually 38 myself.
It sounds like you're not for Kids deep like I am so that's
probably a little bit different in our parts of the country.
So When I think that I would
imagine you probably have a lot of listeners who are still
learning the sport and who are really, you know, trying to get
you know, better foothold in trying to understand
handicapping better and all the rest of it.
I just encourage them to go to America's best racing dotnet.
You've got so much, you know, just just Quality quality stuff
for anybody who's learning the game who want to learn more
about handicapping and wedding or if you're not into that part
of it. If you just kind of your into
the culture you're into the horses you like the whole
Lifestyle the sport. We've got plenty good stuff.
Like I said, You know, we worked with Megan before she's created
some really cool fun educational videos, like really informative
videos. She's got those connections with
all the different trainers and jockeys and all the
personalities. So if you love all that stuff,
you love hearing those stories go to America's best racing and
check it out. I will say two things the first
thing that really caught me off guard doing this show.
It's how many people there are like me right that came to horse
racing later on and especially this year when everyone was
locked up their house and horse racing was the only thing Right.
And so we so Dan a year. So about this time last year we
had about 150 or 200 listeners and we had 40,000 unique visits
for Breeders Cup. Wow, that's just to our shows
just to our recordings. And by the way, a lot of those
were recorded and people listen to them when they do the
results. So people are you can tell
people are you know, they're going to they're going and
watching and they're coming back to see what the analysis was
beforehand and you know, I'm kind.
Of like that too. You know, I'm willing to go back
and listen to those things. So, you know, obviously Megan's
been a big a big boost for us, but you know, I've been really
pleased with how many Twitter DM is a different things, you know,
we get from people like hey, thanks for doing this and one of
the things I should have mentioned on the show and I'll
mention it right now that I use all the time is the BET
calculator on ADR. You guys have a horseback calculator I use it
all the time. So if I'm trying to figure out
how much of that's going to cost and I'm going to give it out on
the show. I go straight to that back
calculator. I use it all the time.
You people want to know literally Google horseback
calculator AVR will come up first because it's that good.
It's the one that people use so as page gets It's gets a lot of
a lot of traffic. I will say it's like it's our
pride and joy, it's a little baby that gambling calculator.
We love it. And thank you sir plug on it and
I will say with those kinds of numbers.
They just dropped. I don't know how many people
listening are potential sponsors.
But if you know anybody who watched the show, they should
get in touch with you. Those are really good numbers as
a lot that that's what that that's that's that's major
audience right there, especially for horse racing and you deserve
it for the work you guys are putting in.
So I just want to you know, I'd love to see the show continue to
grow no. We appreciate it.
We're excited to actually hopefully hopefully well I
should be really careful here to have a derby at adorable time of
year. Where the where the podcast is
kicking along. We just found out that the Jeff
Ruby's takes is a hundred Point Race and I would I would love if
anyone at turquoise listening chip block any of those folks.
I would love to figure out an outdoor space for our fans to
meet up and do a thing in March to celebrate the hundred-point
race on the ooh to P do there, but alright.
I'm going to let Dan tordjman go because he's got a life and
other things probably I'm just avoiding my family so Dan, I
totally appreciate it. Thanks for taking time for being
part of the glitterati. We'll talk to you soon rights
pleasure. Thanks for having me.
