All right. Welcome.

Look at that. Nice.

This nice easy fade out there by Zach.

Good job. Zach, I mean, exactly.

He gets to be on the screen. I had no idea.

How about that? How about that?

I didn't. I don't think we approved.

It yeah, I know that was not on the production notes.

All right. Mike Endolfo here.

Louie Rabone against Zach Zaner. Have a porch racing happy hour.

All right, we got a little can opener today.

There there was no guest today, so I figured I'd fill in for the

1st 30 seconds. OK, sure do do what you gotta

do, you know? Fill it for the 1st 30 seconds.

That's what she said. Yeah, I was gonna say he's got

three kids for reason, people. Here you go.

All right, listen, I know we're all like jokes and stuff like

that, but I think we got to hit the the bad news of the day.

There's some sad news. The passing of our collector, of

course. An amazing 6 year old career.

Just I'm shocked. I mean, this is a horse that we

thought could be a contender, I thought when it came to the rear

scope. Classic.

Oh, no question. What's on that very short list?

I agree with you dealing with some laminitis and and then our

collectors unfortunately had to be put down today so.

We spent a bit of time looking up laminitis and how it could

affect a horse of his quality. Frankly, right now there

wouldn't be a treatment, but essentially it causes.

An issue where with a foot where it can't even stand up.

Right. When you're a horse you can't

stand up. That's a real legitimate serious

issue And so no unfortunate starting spot for us here with

our collector passing away because you're right.

I mean it's rare that we get to watch horses.

Raises 6 year olds now he wins the Pegasus this year puts

himself back in that conversation about older dirt

male two turns you know that kind of stuff.

And and so in a in a class that already was a little thin and

gets thinner. And unfortunately, for very bad

reasons, yeah, I mean a horse that we were looking forward to

seeing race even more and that, yeah.

Our collector, that's the kind of horse we would have seen

maybe at the Clark or something right in the in the fall we

could have seen in person again. I mean, yeah, it's really, it's

really sad. How many grade one wins does our

collector have? Top of my head.

He has two. That's correct.

The pegs is this year and then the Woodward, Woodward, yeah,

that's right. And that was two years ago in

the Woodward, you know? I do want to add to the

laminitis thing that. When people think like, oh,

horses are treated whatever, whatever laminitis comes in 72

hours, so literally overnight. And once it's in there, it's

almost impossible to get rid of. So and our collector won the

Bluegrass Stakes and then had to get scratched from the Kentucky

Derby. Right.

And oh, that's right. Yeah, Gosh, I forgot about that.

It's it's one of those horses that is definitely what could

have been career of art collector.

What the packets this, man, that's a you'll have that

forever multiple Grade 1 winner. You'll have those votes forever.

But yeah now it's brutal. And so another one of those

horses where we don't get to see the progeny.

Right. You know that's the other part

of this is that it And and so yeah, now just it's just too bad

it's the son of a Bernardini too so probably some you know,

decent progeny coming there and so no just as sad.

You know we we we talk about it a lot.

It's amazing that a horse ever gets to the starting gate.

With with all of the issues that they can have and and those

sorts of things and so I'm not just condolences to the team and

and all the people connected with our collector for sure.

I had something interesting happened this week to kind of

change course with just a little bit What is the name of the

trophy given to the previous winner?

The Woodlawn Vase, That's correct.

Where is the Woodlawn Vase originated from?

Here, not just here, but like down the street, right, Like

just we're on Westport Rd. Basically.

And down Westport Rd. Is a neighborhood called

Woodlawn and they've got a historical marker for the

Woodlawn Racecourse with that Woodlawn Boss was first first

made out of appearance. It's the richest trophy in

sports, Is that correct? Most expensive.

Yeah. Like piece of metal trophy.

Yes, essentially. Yeah, right.

And so I'm just having to run to the mayor of Woodlawn.

He was like, hey, I want to come on your podcast and I want to

talk about the history of the Woodlawn boss.

How did he know about the podcast?

Because I was with some other people who were saying, hey, you

listen to Mike's Horse Racing Podcast, have you?

That's got it. It's.

So it wasn't just, hey, I listened to the pod because that

happened to me on Tuesday. Did I tell you this story?

It's happened. It's happening all over the

place again, My mom goes, gets her mammogram.

She gets to hear it like, hey, Mike's mom's here.

That's how they announced her at the and then and then my

brother. Was it's a random show.

My brother was at a party and they heard his last names like,

hey you, are you biking? What a terrible thing to be

affiliated with this show. What a horrible thing.

Can you imagine? No Fred Kalgo, man about town,

sat down with me. Had no idea.

I've done daily sports talk radio for two hours a day the

last year and a half, but he knew.

He knew, but he knew the podcast.

That's right. You're you're booming, Lou.

Can you turn yourself down? I'm turning him down right now.

I just noticed that he was, he was loud, so.

Is that better, Zach? How about that?

But no. For instance.

That sounds perfect. There we go.

It starts asking questions about podcast.

He's like also what else do you do?

And I'm like, really? We doing this right?

Was he with our boy EJ when you saw him?

He was, yeah. EJ.

EJ Clark. Yeah.

Yeah, I know. They're good buddies.

So all the luminaries were out, let's put it that way.

Julian Laperu, his wife, who looks like my wife, you're doing

that. Was there telling everybody what

you're doing, you're doing? That you're out there Tuesday,

Blind Squirrel. Shout out our guy Mike Columbus,

who does listen to the podcast. Answer the show in the mornings

as well, which I appreciate he. They they hold this day every

year as like a get ready. It's coming sort of thing for

Kentucky Downs. And so I heard.

Christian Torres, Brian Lynch came on with us, which I'm going

to talk about in our Horse Racing 101 section.

And yeah, so Jenny Rees, Johnson, all the people out

there, Jenny's become a very good friend of ours behind the

scenes, with guests, with different people, with some,

with some relationships and those sorts of things.

So yeah, Huge, huge fans of Jeff, I heard.

Is it true that they took out the cigar lockers of the Blind

Squirrel? No.

But it's still there. Yes.

OK. Who told you that?

That's blasphemy. It would have been blasphemy.

Yeah, they got those two patios. You can't do that.

No, I know. I mean, it's like one of the few

places you can actually go smoke a cigar and it's encouraged,

yeah. Right.

Well, that second floor there, I don't know if you've been up

there. Yeah, I've been up there before,

but it's always been the winter time, OK.

So I've never actually been. We're talking Breeders' Cup

event, blind squirrel. OK.

Stay tuned. Is it kind of the thing like if

we don't go to San Anita, we? Would do?

No. We would do it Tuesday and then

fly out. OK.

Yeah. Kind of thing.

Or do a Monday and fly out. All right, so.

Mike's A Mike's fan of the show would be easy to do.

Awesome. So, all right, let's get to our

replays from last week. We had the Arlington Million at

at Colonial. You know, I don't know.

No. Do you have an opinion on that?

That's fine. I mean, no, I mean, I guess the

race needs to continue, but if the Arlington million can be

raised to Colonial, then I guess the Preakness dates can be

reigned at CNA Need. That's all I'm going to say and

I wouldn't be surprised the replay.

Masterpiece looks up on the outside, starts to make his

move. Here comes the Gray Masterpiece

trying to follow that move is catnip and down the far outside

Adamo is let loose down the crown of the track.

They still got to come get strong quality.

Who leads them strong quality into the stretch.

Santeen is running a big one. Here comes set piece, who was

last early on Set piece rolling by everybody.

Set piece on the outside hits the front santeen back to second

along. With Adamo, it's set piece and

Florent Giroux they catapulted past rivals.

Set piece going to win. Virginia's main million.

Set piece by two sent to you. Second to play.

Adamo got third in so set piece, the seven-year old gelding, so

we won't see his project either. All right.

Wins the Arlington million, you know, good run, good salt.

So I decided to play the cross country pick five on Saturday.

Saw that it was the races we had looked at.

I loved Casa Creed, obviously. We'll talk about him.

I loved the in the Saratoga special rhyme schemes,

obviously, so I had two singles on my ticket so I was able to

keep it cheap. Decided to go all in the

secretary 22 to one. Comes in feeling good.

Got half the horses in the Arlington million.

Lowest payout 3200 dollars. Nice you didn't have set piece.

I did not have set piece and here's why.

When's the last time he went a mile on 1/4?

I say never, never, never. There you go.

When's the last time he was in last place?

With last? The first.

Never. Never.

OK, so just went totally out-of-the-box with him and and

I should have just gone with class.

I didn't do that. Santine finished a second.

They got him in first. I didn't have either of those

horses. How much more would it have cost

you to add set pieces? Out of curiosity, are we doing

that right now? Yeah, we are.

Like 6 bucks. 6 bucks You lost $3200.

If I had done a Scott this will just punch all and had $140.00

ticket or whatever, I'd have like yeah, 38, 100, yeah, that's

good. I know what's interesting.

That's horse racing, right? And this is here's the dilemma

now is he for the Breeders Cup purposes?

Do they push him backward to a mile, or do they push him

forward to a mile and a half? That's the question, right.

Well, that mile could be loaded, right.

Both of them are going to be, yeah.

Yeah. That's true right now.

My gosh, the winner of the mile last year, just just retired was

a three-year old winner, two word name.

My God, that's bad. But anyway, so he retired, so

he's out of it. This is great radio right here.

This is great radio, great podcasting.

Modern games, Yeah, so Modern Games Retires, opens up that

mile. Yeah, that was this week.

And. And so that group opens up.

If I own Santine, I I put him out front and try to win the

mile. That's what I try to do.

But just do you think that horse was slowing down at the finish

line there? I'm sure it's helpful.

Look great. And so if he can gallop out like

that at a mile and a quarter, what can he do at a mile and a

half? I don't know.

But man, it's interesting and it's why I don't.

I didn't feel bad about my handicapping.

He did something for the first time at the age of 7, yeah.

People don't, you know, horses don't do that.

So I don't feel bad about it. Does it suck?

Sure, but like, I'm not. I didn't lose an ounce of sleep.

But it does raise a dilemma. Do you go longer or do you go

shorter with him? But I think you saw from him

he's still capable of being a Breeders' Cup horse, then at

least gets a check. Oh, that hits the board.

Yeah, I mean and. That might be his last race,

right? He's 7, very well.

Could be the last race horses. They go, they go forever.

Yeah, whatever. So who knows?

But no, we got a couple of cool older horses that did great work

on the grass this past weekend, including Casa Creed, who you

mentioned. Who do you have pulled ups at

here? Yeah, we're going rhyme schemes

next, so let's. Talk rhyme schemes.

We had talked about what do you do here?

Do you to try to beat the two year old that's coming out of a

good race, or do you use him? I ended up singly here.

Turned out to be good to see. Further out hall trying to join

the party and now rhyme schemes makes the move at the top of the

stretch. It's a good one too.

Rhyme Schemes takes over, opens up to on Market Street and 2nd

in the center of the track. It's hall in 3rd but with a

furlong left to go. Rhyme Schemes is long gone.

A spectacular display from Rhyme schemes.

Running home all alone in the Saratoga Special by 8 or 9

lengths. I mean, we've seen impressive,

impressive horses in this race in the past.

Oh yeah, that was about as good as you're going to get.

I mean, we're talking Damon's Mound last year and you can make

fun of what happened in the three-year old.

You have a 2 year old as a Damon's Mound as a 2 year old

beast. Jackie's warrior.

Obviously out of here. Green light, go gun of their

exaggerator, etcetera. I've said for a while and it was

nice for this to happen because I talked about it so much.

I've said that I think Norm Cassie is the next two year old

trainer. Yeah, you did.

And that's. What this was on Saturday was

that all the evidence is there. Rhyme schemes you get.

I even said look Ricardo with him at Saratoga, that's a

winning combo, comes through again.

Interested to see what happens with this horse the rest of the

way, but at least we know. That's a British Cup horse.

Oh, 100% we're. Seeing those horses come out now

and at least Rhyme Scheme's going to be part of that

situation. I forget his exact breeding.

I'm going to click on him now here on Equibase.

Give them a it's a go Sapper. How about that distorted humor

on the mom side? So my sense is they can kind of

do whatever they want, right? That's a horse.

He can go along, he can do. If he's a great sprinter,

they'll just keep him sprinting. So that's a look, man.

And these are the wins and Cassie's had.

Norm, excuse me, has had plenty of graded stakes wins for how

early in his career he is, but this is the kind of horse that

can change your life if he continues to, yeah.

But if he turns into a Goniverron exaggerator, whatever

that might be, I mean, those are he turns into a classic winner.

Absolutely. So yeah, no really, really fun

display. And that's one of those where.

You look at the 1:00 to 1:00 and you think, man, we got a deal,

all right? Even money, like that's a deal.

That was good. So no great run from especially

in the exotics, I mean especially if you would have,

especially if you would have played you know?

Sure, but even even to? Win by that much and you've got

them to win. Sure.

And you've got 20 bucks on them and someone hands you 40 bucks,

you say. That's pretty good.

We'll move on now to the four-star Dave Handicap, soon to

be called the Cause of creed Handicap.

They've got to change the name of this race, right?

I mean, you have. How good four-star Dave was

four-star Dave won this race once.

Casa Creed has won it twice and hit the board two other times.

Go ahead off the. Lead with a quarter of a mile to

go and Annapolis is cut loose on the outside of my sea cottage.

My sea cottage. Annapolis right to him and right

on by Casa. Creed's the last three to make

up. Starts to pick up some nice

Moenum. Now it's Annapolis.

And here's Casa Creed. On the outside, these two square

off once again. Casa Creed or Annapolis.

Annapolis. Casa Creed.

Casa Creed. Casa Creed.

What a resource he is. Casa Creed getting it done that

exacted. By the way, if you're curious,

the dogs had to paid 510 and the trifecta paid 825.

I gave out that trifecta cold on this show.

I think everybody did. No, With the outside horse

coming third, ice chocolate was like was still only paid 370 to

show. Yeah, He was like 8 to 1.

Yeah. All right.

Yeah. We went, we went 647 there and

Mike apparently also had it. So there you go.

Listen, I didn't bet anything. So yeah, we're stopped.

Yeah. Well, Casa Creed's turning into

a miler that you got to reckon with.

And frankly, when we talk about Breeders' Cup, usually we just

lean straight toward the ups, right?

Yeah, I didn't even think about it.

Cost creed is good enough to be the Europeans, I think.

I would think so, yeah. I mean, right.

Trip, you know, all those things that Santa Anita, I think that

he's the kind of horse that can actually get it done against

European competition. Am I predicting that?

I am not. I want to be very clear.

But he's the kind of horse he's traveled overseas.

We've seen him up against those horses, do a good job in the

Arabian Peninsula. Can he do it in California as

well? Another horse that's getting

done at 7 years old? I mean, just incredible.

All right, we got our Maryland read for the 101 up or what?

What are we doing? I.

Don't have that up. But I should.

Shouldn't have. Yeah, I mean it.

Did you know since my recording is not good enough anymore?

I was told last week, it's just old.

It'd be kind of cool to have. By the way, the guy from

Woodlawn, the neighborhood, the mayor on with John Piazzak and

just had this like, history lesson.

It'd be fantastic. I do want to encourage folks

reminder that October 14th is. This edition, the 38th of the

Jimmy Kay Maryland Million, showcases the finest of Maryland

thoroughbred industry. You can visit them at

marylandmillion.com. Stay updated on contenders with

the weekly Maryland Million Watch.

You can learn about sponsorship opportunities, purchase one of

those ever popular club tables at Laurel there, and much, much

more. We'll see you at The Million

again. Marylandmillion.com All right,

so this 101 here feels a little bit more like a 301.

This topic here like it doesn't really seem like an entry level

topic, but I think it's still. So here's here's what I wanted

to do. So Tuesday you mentioned hey

Louis, where were you? And I was at Blind Squirrel

doing a preview day for Kentucky Dance, right?

So that means you talked to, we talked to Jockey Christian

Torres for for example, young guy grew up in Puerto Rico,

moved to Florida at the age of 11, gets into being a jockey is

on the Oak Lawn circuit, has has settled into Kentucky and we see

that because. So much darn money here.

A guy like Christian, especially at that you can tell you downs

me. I mean that for sure.

But just I'll give you an example.

He came second in two races at Ellis on Sunday, and I would

guess between those two races he personally pocketed between 15

and $20,000. Yeah, I mean, it's that kind of

stuff. It's a good day.

It is a good day. That's right.

He was very gracious. By the way, I asked him why

neither of those horses got to the line.

Essentially because they both got nosed out.

He was very gracious about it, but.

Brian Lynch just mentioned in passing because Dan asked the

question, Dan is so my cohost on in the mornings on on ESPN

mobile with the per structure are more people going to stay at

Turfway this year? And Brian's answer was, I don't

know that we can risk taking our our people down to Florida right

now with the new immigration laws.

So tell us about the immigration laws.

And so essentially going in on July 1st, State Bill 1718 went

into into effect and essentially it ended.

The COVID era moratorium on checking people out like you

were kind of okay to go because of COVID for a couple of years

and that all ended in a very abrupt way on July 1st.

And so guys like Brian and I want to be really clear about

this. I'm not writing legislation, I

don't know that. But for him to say out loud, the

only thing we're going to miss is the grass and the weather and

that these willing to run. When is it?

Four days a week, Five days a week at Turfway instead.

Is telling. And so it's it's just the reason

I wanted this to be the one O one was because of how casually

he said it. But the thing he said after that

was, at this point in my career, it's the people that are more

important than ever. Oh yeah.

Because we talk about the horses and we should.

And we talk about the trainers, we talk about the jockeys.

But the thing that I love, Mike, that you and I get to do is the

backside stuff means me. Those.

Backside stuff is so underrated. It's so untalked about how many

I just how many work back there and they love those horses, man.

I mean, I just like, you know, I think before you kind of got on

the show, I got to hang out with Ingrid Mason a lot in her bar

and she's having a good bead at Hawthorne, it looks like.

But you know, she had an Oaks runner and just like her, her

stable people, man, just loving those horses and they were like

so good to us. And you know, it's just amazing.

Like it's it's such a community back there, but you just

definitely don't want to see that happen and and not listen.

Not to get political on this show but the way I look at it is

if someone's willing to risk everything, they're willing to

risk to come to this country to work.

They need to find a path for them to work no matter how, no

matter how they got that. Like unequivocally and I think

he would also say then that involves not going to Florida

right now. It doesn't mean forever, but you

know some of the stats like one in every 12 people that lives in

Florida is a non citizen immigrant.

It's a lot man. It's a lot of people, 8% of the

people. And so you you can imagine

frankly in our industry in horse racing that number is

considerably higher. I mean just considerably higher.

You can't even imagine. And so that's why I think.

You know, in Brian's case, hey, I can pay my bills.

I can be a turfway, guys can stay, can stay home and don't

have to move. Maybe that's just better this

year. See how it works out for other

people. Maybe that's his tactic, I don't

know. But he said it so casually that

it caught me off guard. I'll have a piece up tomorrow at

First Gen. Sports about it because it it it

it's caught me so off guard and so.

I don't know the proper word, but I just.

I was not ready for him to make that comment.

I think he goes I. Think of Gulfstream in the

winter is just something you just do.

I have a I have a question. So like obviously we're in a

cycle climate wise where things are warmer in the winter.

You know, do we start to see turfoil being a good place to be

with with mild weather through most of the winter?

And it makes it an easy sell. You know, like Ohio is not, it's

not New York City. It's not, you know, upper New

York. You're you don't have to worry

about those massive cold spells. You're on a totally different

weather line. Well.

You you could, but I mean the brief, right?

If you get them, I mean. And the surface is made to be

used, no? Matter what?

The weather. Is, yeah, yeah.

Until you. Call it all weather right now we

call Poly or. You know, it's a pet or

whatever. No, it's a good question, Zach.

I think and like think about Kentucky last year your winter

was so mild. It's a good place to live.

For that purpose, yes, you're right.

I think the other part though, too, is that surface has turned

out to be very fair to turf horses.

And Brian's an Australian guy who, that's what he excels at,

right? So I think he's comfortable

being there, running his horses there, even if they're not going

to be. Necessarily winning races.

It's a good place to condition horses and I think he's very

comfortable with that. So I just, I wanted to bring

that up because it was just something in a passing comment

that was a question about something different that he just

kind of said, yeah, well, we're probably sending less things

down to golf strips, sure. So it'd be interesting.

I don't know how much it's gonna affect them because.

Something we talked about on this show for a long time did

the horse break is made in during the championship meet a

Gulf Stream or did he do it? During the summer, Right?

Right before the Florida Derby or after the Florida Derby?

For Brian Lynch in August to say we're not going down there,

right, but when it gets to November and your owners are

like, hey, when are we running a Gulf Stream?

Yeah, when you start getting to like the Swale and all that kind

of stuff and you got to, you got to, you know, get in some major

races that kind of set you up for the rest of the year, it's a

different story. Plus, people rather live in

Miami in January than Covington, so it's just what it is.

Yeah. Sorry, By the way, you're right,

Constant creed's a better horse in force.

I do needs to be said yeah he is.

So I I I think we. Want to thank our friends?

marilynmillions.com? Go check them out and get over

there in October. Check out all the great racing

there. That is a great betting card

every year. Very fun.

I'm a complete sucker, though, for immigration stories.

Oh, I get it. I mean, I'm.

And I think that's probably because I know, like, I knew my

grandparents that came over from Sicily.

I knew what they had to overcome.

You hear the stories I heard, you know you I'll go back to

Italy. You, you hear how even in a

place like Italy, which we think is like a vacation destination,

it's still, it's still lacks you know, you know a lot of family

members over there that own businesses, it's really tough

and. I think the other part too is we

with with this very particular set of people that work the

backside, you and I have such a an admiration for how much.

They love the animals they work with.

Right. That's the part of it too.

That makes this really difficult is it isn't that they moved here

for nefarious reasons. They moved here to work with

horses to work with animals. Right.

And that really does. I mean that's that's the part

here we're like if and look it it made me like Brian Lynch a

lot that he he he was thinking about those things and thinking

about his people right. And I don't want to get

emotional about, but like that's a it reminds you to how just.

And like I said, the reason I wanted this to be the

one-on-one, it's just how complicated it is to run a

freaking racehorse. And we start with the story

about our collector today and it and it's a foot thing, and they

have to put him down, for God's sake.

And then we're talking about, oh, we can't go to Florida.

We're going to have to figure out the condition, book it

because of the immigration shits.

It's fascinating. And then Zach brings up global

warming. I mean, we're touching all the

issues. It's all of it, no.

But all of it. All of it factors in.

All right, let's do some handicapping.

Let's let's let's make some money for some people.

We're only going to handicap 3 races today, but there are three

good ones. And.

There's three good really good races.

Probably the one race that's probably the least exciting,

although that's you know it's always a good race, is the great

2. Lake Placid at Saratoga.

We're going to the Spa Mile on the 16th on the turf. 3 year

olds, 3 old Phillies here, $200,000 on the line.

The Spa Louis. We have a very heavy horse in

the main track only. Are we expecting rain on

Saturday in Saratoga? We're expecting a 40% chance of

rain on Saturday, but I think the real issue is it's going to

rain all day tomorrow, I think for that reason.

So it's interesting there's there's eight horses here, 10 if

you include the MTO's, and so if you take the first date, Chad

Brown has four of them. That feels like a small number.

Yeah, it is. Hey, Chad, how about you have

six out of eight, yeah. Seriously.

Hey, get it together, Okay. We're trying to have a sport

here. Okay, thank you very much.

So he's got to have, Fletcher's got two and then Brad Goggs won,

Brendan Walsh won. And so it is a bit of a Chad

Brown. Should we just?

Call Chad Brown up right now to see if we can get him on or.

Really good idea. Just hold it.

Just hold him. Like.

Just say, Hey, how do you feel about this weekend?

It's. 815 He's probably asleep. Frankly, it's got to be.

Up at like 3:30 to go visit a horse.

Anyways, look, I think it's going to be a softer course on

Saturday. I think that place, the search

capacity was coming off of a yielding wind last time out.

Search capacity is the seven. So we're talking about the seven

in the seventh. This is a this has Chad Brown

written all over. Third race ever.

Let's go to a grade 2 restricted 3 year old Phillies Joe Rosario

in the mount for this one horse broker maiden going two.

Turns immediately sent her out over two turns at Monmouth park.

Comes back runs over yielding go at Saratoga during this meeting

comes back. Is going to run her in this race

as well. I think she's going to get a

similar sort of sort of set up here.

Tax implications finished right behind her who's 5:00 to 1:00

here is the four horse. That's another horse, I think.

That you've got to look at because of the finish.

Last time seemed to not mind the yielding go at all was very much

a bang, bang finish. I do think the two horse here is

interesting as well. That's Asprey.

It's another Chad Brown. This is Flavia and Pratt here

ran in that Belmont, Belmont Oaks Invitational.

It is a great one. Over at Belmont goes a mile and

a quarter doesn't have to go that far here.

I think the the cutback distance is going to be really good for

her as well. Ran without Lasik's last time

showed that she could do that lands up here again.

One time not missing or excuse me, one time missing, The board

in her career was that last race, but again was by less than

3 lengths. And I think that she'll have a

good run as well. And I think there are a couple

of horses in here that are really interesting.

They're only a couple that I think are very unlikely to win,

but I think a horse like Soviet excess and there's a group,

there's a group in California that names their horses Soviet

stuff. All the time.

And it's very funny. It's pretty funny.

I appreciate those people. But Soviet excess is in this

race. You tell Davis and Todd Fletcher

and that horse, very interesting coming off of a listed stakes at

Belmont, going to mile reminded that that's kind of like a

shoot, like 1/4 turn getting into the Belmont shoot there in

the wild Apple. And I think that was a race with

tax implications. She finished right behind tax

implications. By a couple legs, that'll be

interesting to see. If she comes back and can run,

that's the kind of horse. The six, if she hits the board

can really help you out with an exact or a trifecta something

like that. I think you use her for that

kind of thing. I don't think that will be MTO

for the Lake Placid. This would be the race that they

protect on Saturday. So I'll lean on the seven here

surge capacity to be. By top pick I went 72438 and

one. I'm going to stick with

three-year old Phillies. We're going to go to mall in

court on the dirt at Saratoga for the Grade 1 Alabama which of

course is just it's always such a great race nest beat Secret

oath. Last year Mal thought beat

Clarier the year before. So a skydiver beat Bonnie S the

year before that That's that's pretty good songbird.

A late I mean, you're talking about the who's who of of

Phillies wins this race? You know.

This is more prestigious than the Kentucky.

Absolutely, yeah. I've always felt that way

though. Okay.

I think the winner list points to that for.

Sure, yeah. Plus you're getting the Phillies

at a time when they're more developed, right?

Yeah. It's not like the Derby then the

Travelers. It's this is okay.

So if we're if we're doing this conversation, what are the

rankings of those races for three-year olds is the Acorn.

The Acorn's really good. Black Eyed Susan, Kentucky Oaks.

Black Eyed Seasons at the back of the list.

CCA Oaks, right at Saratoga as well, yeah.

Do you think of any other races being in that category?

For three-year old. Phillies, right.

Yeah. On the dirt, obviously.

Yeah, that's it, right? That's the list of races and I.

Don't know if the Black Eyed Season deserves to be on it.

It's probably the last one, right?

Yeah. Yeah, I agree with you.

So I mean then you get the Breeders Cup obviously and the

staff and that stuff, but that includes horses outside of the

three-year old range of course. And so, no, I think the Alabama

is probably #1. And then is the Oaks two or is

the Acorn 2? Man, the Acorn's always really

good. And now that they made it a mile

on the 16th, it's, it's approachable, right?

Yeah, Yeah, yeah, right. So it's in that group again.

So I would probably go Alabama, Kentucky Oaks, Acorn, CCAA,

Oaks, and then Black Eyed Susan. I would probably agree with

that. Okay, yeah.

But this is this is the race for me I mean so and kind of said we

don't have pretty mischievous in here.

This field is obviously, it's still good, but maybe a notch

below what we've seen the past, right?

We don't. We don't have the huge

headtohead matchup like we saw last time, unless what paint

becomes. Out of here just blows it away

and then is ready for the staff, right?

Well then you get the pretty mischievous what paint does the

staff match up? And that's that's what we would

all love, right? I actually am very interested to

you in this race because we get tax coming out of the Indiana

Oaks coming to to take a shot. But we get a an arrogant Philly

here that is making only her second start in a great, great

stakes. I love to see.

We just don't have that many areas out there.

So I want to see them do well not and I think that could be a

sneaky 1 to hit the board. I don't think the horse is going

to win. You know this?

This feels like a wet paint single to me, but I don't know.

What do you think? I think she's on top for sure.

I'm interested here because I think there's a different

there's a pletter here that's interesting, and Julia shining 5

to 1, the three horse here. For defining purpose in here

too, though, who won the Indiana Oak So?

Yeah, she's at the bottom there, the 10 horse.

She's in every other type. I don't know that she'll fire

here, but I think Julia Shining's got a serious shot to

to fire here. Lost to defining purpose like

you mentioned at Keeneland in the Ashland has been off.

All of this time, but this is probably Todd Pletcher's best

angle is bringing horses off this kind of layoff.

Interested to see where she ends up.

But I think with the way Louis Size is going right now, she's

got a real shot. I wanted to give a shout out

looking in the camera, our guy Roger Browning this horse.

Nobody listens. Is going to the Parks dash on

Tuesday. Guess who the jockey is?

Who? Luis Sayas nice.

Guess who the Breeders Cup jockeys gonna be if the horse

makes it? Luis says.

Luis Sayas So that's what I'm talking about.

Let's go. So pretty pumped about that.

It's also my wedding anniversary, so I'm thinking

about skipping my wedding anniversary to fly to.

Roger, If we're with Roger and San Anita and he has a Breeders'

Cup horse, let's go. Oh my gosh, it's gonna be.

And so. You will not had to wonder where

the rednecks are. We'll be We'll be on full

display. We will be on full display.

I'd have to drink for that one the and so the other horses in

here that I just can't figure out.

I think gambling girls an interesting one.

The seven horse Pletcher and I read second off the layoff here

essentially took time off after the Kentucky Oaks did run in the

CCA Oaks back in July. Gets to go to Saratoga now has

been working there. I mean fast enough not great.

I don't think she's a great works horse anyway.

I think she'll be fine, but this is second off the layoff.

Another great angle with Todd Pletcher, so I do think she'll

have a big race. Any love, Any love for sake or

wish? Which one is I'm sorry, say your

wish is not in. Yeah, the one, Yeah, yes.

Actually, I think that horse hits the board and so really

interested to see her here ran in that CCA Oaks right behind

wet paint. So if if the race is a little

bit different, can she do it? That's actually why I like wet

paint in this spot is they ran that race in a mile and an

eighth. We're getting a mile and 1/4

here and I think wet paint's going to eat it up.

I think she's going. To love it, I agree.

I would sing a wet paint. Nothing.

Nothing against, you know. I I agree with everything you

said I was. I really like Julie shining as a

2 year old the. Cool thing is, this is part of

the that that Grand Slam bet where you try to get horses that

hit the board. This is the kind of race where

you could get a sneaky like 1012 to one second or third and

really ups. Your that could be fire line

absolutely could be. No question.

And that's where you know maybe a gambling girl or or a sorry

no, you're fine or a or a sacred wish is that other horse that

kind of fills it in for. You all right?

We're going to move across the country.

We're going to go to Delmar. I mean, if we have Saratoga and

Delmar running at the same time, shouldn't we have Keenlyn

running at the same time just to have like the three just

pristine tracks going all at once?

No, you're a curmudgeon like. We're Kelyn, runs I.

Like their spot? No, because they fill in a tough

spot the month before the Derby and the month before the

Breeders. GOT Oh, I thought you meant

before you can tell you football games.

That's a tough time after the Keenlyn.

We're going to go out to the Delmar Oaks, all right?

The Delmar Oaks is going to be Grade 1 Delmar Oaks.

The course for three old Phillies.

Mom did not make your list, by the way, of top five.

It's on the turf. That's on the turf.

That's right. three-year old Phillies, $300,000 on the line

here. This is.

A serious race. Fenderella won this race last

year. Oh no, this is a big girl race

for sure. Yeah, yeah.

No, no, look. I love it because I actually got

all of the past performances before the Morning Lines came

out and I actually agree with the Morning Line maker that

honest set the five British right here, son of Al Todd, who

they've read for $5400. Is the favorite here under Uber

recently won the San Clemente last time out going in the grade

two at Delmar going a mile. We have to go a little bit

longer here. I'm really not worried about

that. That horse was kicking away at

the end including against and Tell me no lies who's in this

field in the one hole as well. I think that you can look at

some other horses as well. The seven here is an interesting

horse and I remember, do you remember a couple weeks ago we

talked about the chosen Ron and the Bing Crosby whether he could

make that leap from California State red races to.

An open company grade one and then he won the damn thing.

That horse in this race is big Pond 8 to 1.

Ramon Vasquez, Timmy Actin. That's a local group excuse me

32% overall the two of them. So they when they get together

they win this horse 2 for two lifetime wins.

Two state bred races so both of the maiden level at San Anita

then comes back at 7 furlongs at Del Mar and wins again.

This is a stretch out 21% on on Sprinter out for Timmy Actin as

well. So if you wanted the horse.

That is going to act like the chosen Bron in this possible

situation is big Ponda 7 under Ramon Vasquez.

Be interesting to see if she gets the right trip here.

Also interested in that's the wrong race.

I'm glad I looked. Ruby.

Ruby Dallas in here for Edwin Maldonado and Richard Mandela.

Mandela having a nice summer man.

He did send go rocket right across to win the Haskell right?

So he's having a nice summer with younger horses with

three-year olds, frankly. Horses won the last two,

including a maiden win at a mile at Santa Anita in the special

weight class comes up in an optional claimer against

winners. First time not available for

claim wins for fun. OK, this horse I like because I

like in these turf races. Mike, you know this.

The best of the frontrunners and the best of the closers on my

ticket, she's the best of the frontrunners.

And so I think she's got a legit shot here.

She's the four horse here for Edwin Maldonado.

Ruby Ruby, Nell. And then I think you look

outside of the 9:00. Which is be your best and

interesting one here. And I'm including this horse

only because Juan Hernandez is aboard and he's winning 29% of

the races at Delmar. That doesn't suck.

And that guy can really, really ride Harasso deposit, not send a

lot of horses to California. So I think this is a very

intentional move by their group, not an ownership group that I'm

very familiar with. So interesting move from that

Belmont Oaks Invitational where she finished way up the track

but before that ran really well in the wonder again.

So maybe if we cut back in distance to that mile in an

eighth where she was more effective and ran an 85 speed

figure 2 back in June, maybe she's better off here.

I always wonder about shipping now with the new situation not

having the the better conditions for horses shipping and so worry

about that part. But I do think she's got a real

shot to hit the board. Okay, so go through your notes.

You just didn't mentioned a whole bunch of horses here.

So who? Who?

So I mentioned 4/5. 74 and 9:00. And that's leaving off the two

horse window shopper who won the summertime Oaks to greet you.

Summertime Oaks Last time he's an American pharaoh.

And then we're going to see another airgate here who's going

to try turf for the first time. I believe that's Turf for the

first time. Yeah.

It is Turf for the first time. Just to be interesting.

Just kind of see what we get out of and tell me no lies.

I think that of. Course, she ran on turf last

time. I'm sorry, you're right that

Sanclemente came in third. Yeah.

I just think it out of that field on a set is easily the

best. Oh, sure.

I'm with you, though, Hector Barrios especially, like at 18%,

For him to be doing that at Delmar is a remarkable number,

right. Because you got to remember,

when you're talking Santa Anita, and I'm not, I'm going to do a

Mike Gandolfo here. Is your win percentage good when

the fields are five and six points?

This is Delmar. No, no, Delmar.

Yeah. Yeah.

And if you're winning at 18% at Delmar, you're winning a lot of

races with eight, 9/10/12, right?

So that's what I'm getting at here.

So Barrios's overall number is 19%, but it's 18 at Delmar.

That means he's doing very. Well.

So, you know, see what happens. If this this seems to me like

you'll be a lot more wide open. Yeah, very fun.

A lot of fun. All right, let's talk about

where we can. If you want to get these picks,

you can go to. First Gen. sports man First

gensports.com Louise, look ahead.

This weekend I'll be doing the Grand Slam bed at Saratoga all.

Right and. Then we'll have Kevin Kilroy.

He's got a piece up right now. And what did we miss last

weekend? How did we not cash in on on the

winners? And then he'll have.

Boy, he's either. You know, I don't know what he's

putting up. You'll find out tomorrow.

I'll have an episode with him. Kevin Kilroy.

Such a good day, man. And then we'll talk to John

Lindo. How about that about the Delmar

Oaks? He's going to go out radio in

Vegas and then join me in Louisville.

There you go. That could not be.

More different. And then next year, I'm going to

next week I'm joining you from Arizona.

There you go. So that's what we got.

Little Travers, huh? Little Travers, you know, I'll

be out in the in 112 degree heat or whatever it's going to be out

in Arizona. Ballparks Air conditioned.

Though shout out by the way, my guy Matt Raibeltowski is at

Saratoga right now for a sports wagering conference and he's

gonna update us on the show about all that stuff afterward.

And then we'll. Start with the new what's coming

up new with that, the new innovations and sports gambling.

Is that just that, remember how we talked about single wallet

for a lot of these? Yeah, that is happening.

Now that's gonna be a huge. Thing Yeah, that'll be a huge

thing for horse racing especially.

So no, very exciting and. You know, I might bother Matt

for next week because he's a New York guy.

I'm going to try to get Tim Wilkin, but he works at the

track at Thursdays or. Busy, busy day.

All right, well, this is been a good short edition of the horse

racing Happy hour. Zach, thanks a lot for all your

help. Mike Andolfo, Louie Rebeaux.

We'll catch you next time we're going to pay the tap and get out

of here. This has been the horse racing

happy hour.
