The Sniper, The Pronouncer, & The Beauty Queen

Barry Spears joins the Happy Hour Crew to talk a little basketball

Full Transcript

This week on the happy hour, Forbidden Kingdom romped home in

the San Felipe. Perhaps simplifying the Derby

Pace conversation, while simplification found that

difficult Overland route was best in winning the Fountain of

Youth at Gulfstream Park. The sniper, very Spears drops by

to get us ready for the Tampa Bay Derby this weekend and will

we see see back-to-back wins in the Azzurri for she dares the

devil, the happy hour starts Now I'm totally pretending like I

can hear the music but I have no idea what's going on.

It's gonna fade it out and everybody was like, you know,

like, I don't know. All I know is there's a couple

things. We got our first off, we got to

welcome, Barry Spears belt, very thanks for joining us today.

Barry is the at Urban handicapper on Twitter.

He's also known as the sniper and he does the going in circles

podcast on Mondays was Charles Simon.

So, we're glad that you're here to talk a little tainted data

table, Bay Downs with us listens we hired JD to get this right?

I don't even know what happened. Seems like a you problem.

I think I'm hanging done. By the way to, I didn't get an

introduction but that we were both.

Who knows who you are. I

mean, I guess that one. I think we gotta love ya.

High-level know, I still think our conversation whether or not

Megan would even get the restaurants to, you know, let's

see, Seas running and that CeCe peniston song and like, one, I

don't pay attention to our text drink too.

Oh, man. Mercedes from what you were

talking about. So I'm good at following either.

All right. Yeah, well we are here today it

is. We were talking off air that

it's a big day in Sports. Major League Baseball is back,

which I'm super super excited about because I am a 95 year old

man, in a 45 year, olds body, who like, sports baseball.

So I'm super pumped and plus college basketball tournament

times here, which is like my entire life.

People, don't ya go to college basketball And so I'm super

pumped about that as well. We've got Michigan lost in

massive, fashion. Tom crean got fired today like

today is just like, there's like all kinds of stuff going on,

okay? Thank you.

See currently and what basketball?

Well, I guess I live in the state of Kentucky.

Baseball first row. The Reds.

Yeah, which I was born and raised a Yankees fan, so I can't

not side is that. Ha ha ha I got people in log on

like the Mets? Is that not a thing.

I thought they were some of them do.

Yeah. It's split down the middle.

You cannot deviate. You were either Yankees Rangers

Giants? Yes, that's right.

I don't really know what that happened with basketball and

then or the other everybody's in expand.

This happen. Well, then that's the next were

there. They were.

So so Berry welcome to, you know, right?

You had to fit right into the this entire mess.

Thank you for having me. Appreciate the invite.

No, no problem. Very, where are you joining us

from Daytona Beach, Florida. My hometown.

Yeah, nice. Warm weather.

Can I call ya? It was warm and rainy today.

I could have did well trained, but it was, it was summer like

hot today. It was probably about 87 degrees

Yeah. Wow.

We last time I we were driving down to Florida and we stopped

right by the Daytona Speedway at this little like dive seafood

place. That was a lot of them.

I know there's a lot of them but this place.

I wish I remember the name of it because it crap stuff to.

It might have been there's a crab, stop one.

Yeah, Mr. Krabs is right on right now.

Whenever I go to Daytona, all right.

Yeah, you don't want those kind. Alright.

The other thing we got just I want to touch on real quick and

I know that I don't know. I'm gonna throw JD off but you

know, I am back. I think when the Derby came

became really important to me. I Wells before high school but

go for Jin won the Kentucky Derby.

When I was a junior in high school and the oldest living,

Kentucky Derby winner passed away this week.

I think JD's got the stretch call real quick if we can pull

it up. All right, there it is.

Go for Jin where the Derby. Rest in peace.

Go perch in 10 for 10, 10 to 1. If I remember, right?

And then that and that Derby and that's also the Derby that

featured Holy Bull. Okay, heard the last so.

Yeah, but yeah, big deal on that, I think.

All right, let's talk about what we had from last week.

I want to start with the fan of Youth because we had a pretty

nasty little spill in that thing.

I also thought that simplification Look pretty good.

And I love the fact that Antonio's coming back to

Churchill Downs because last time I was here, we actually hit

it off pretty well and, you know, got to hang out over there

for a while and it was a whole lot of fun.

So what were your takes making on on simplification?

Well, I mean, first of all, I'm glad that everybody was okay.

After that spill creaking says, that's not always the case, it

was good but they updated us right away.

And I think JLo actually mentioned it in the call to

which I really appreciated. So, but as far as the results of

the race, I I thought it was a pretty good effort from him.

It definitely, you know, brought him to my attention.

As far as Horses that I was considering four top fives,

toptenz, you know, some of the other minor placing finishers

like, in due time, interested to see since I was a big jump from

him from the allowance company of into the graded Stakes level.

You know, we'll see kind of where those horses end up

settling. But yeah, I thought it was a

good run for them to be. Take away sir.

I was the only thing that surprised me was on RAB are big

race picks. I was the only Want to add

simplification. Okay, up top.

So like I remember across a lot of my go.

I wonder how many people had this click?

Nope. Nope, with us here tonight, but

that means that you have to drink.

These are we have rules of the show.

I don't have my water with me. I didn't bring it with me,

either. What do you all think about

Paco, Lopez against the pin suspended though from after the

spill? Good call back.

All I mean, I think it's a good call.

I think he he is a talented Rider, but he, we've just seen

it time and time again. He could be a reckless writer

and, you know, luckily nobody was hurt this time but it very

well could have gone been a different result.

So I think it's absolutely warranted.

And a lot of the times, you know, I don't really think that

the suspension is long enough often.

I mean like a couple years ago when Adam this gives I came out

and broke and record whooshes leg and he was out for a really

long time. His like big money, making me an

aqueduct for he did really well. You know, I remember people kind

of saying that I don't think Adam really rides like that

anymore, but people were like, he's been doing this all meet

long at Fairgrounds and that was a big thing for this one.

It's like, if we know this is happening and we keep seeing

this happening, you have different stewards from

jurisdiction to jurisdiction, you know, we have to get a

handle on this thing. We got to get people to, you

know, punish them and be like hey you can't do that and make

it so that it's a safer sport for everybody involved because

it's also So I mean those guys go down that could be

life-ending career-ending like it's not a its it could be very

very bad and that's not good for anybody involved.

Especially the people that put their lives at risk every day.

Do you ever take on it? I just I think it the suspension

is a result of the outcome. I think that kind of move

actually happens pretty often between that that naira group

that goes down for the championship me to Gulfstream

Park and goes back on, for the, Saratoga Belmont sort of part of

that meat. But when you've got these other

three roles, especially that kind of movement, that kind of

thing can really spook. Them can really, you know,

especially I would have to look that might've been a horse go

into turns for the first time that kind of thing that got

pushed. And so it's really But yeah, as

far as the suspension, I don't understand how writers get to

choose what they get to take some time off and then they

still get to keep their mouths in the most, the highest purse

races. So I don't know what these

discussions actually mean. But yeah, that's kind of my

thing about you Barry. Yeah.

You know, it's such a, such a bad situation for everybody when

something like that goes down. You know, I heard Junior

Alvarado talking about situation on TV G the day after, and he

was like, you know, buddy was kind of, he was in a bad spot,

he was yelling, you know, trying to get everybody to keep their

Lane and Paco just decided not to.

And that's probably things kind of got crazy.

But as far as the suspension goes, I think it was definitely

a good thing. But like Louis was saying, it's

kind of difficult when they're allowed to ride the biggest

races of all time. It's not really a penalty and

then there has to be some Revamping of that whole system

to try to make it a penalty, especially for the Riders

because you don't want that stuff happening, you know, all

the hurting and all that stuff. That's got to stop.

They got to clean up, you know, like, you know, gotta clean up

the place. Oh, so everybody has a fair shot

and it doesn't look bad when things go wrong, and it doesn't

put pressure on the stewards. And, you know, the fans and the

Bettors get upset. And it's just a no-win

situation, when things, and we're writers aren't writing

straight. I'd rather have very well as

your have. Would you rather get the

suspension that he got or would really get punched in the face

by Ortiz, is either one of those is going to happen, right?

So yeah, they probably both happened.

Spending for a long time and have them cool off, but they

have to do something different. Because the rules that are in

place, now, clearly aren't working because there's no

deterrent for things like that to go on.

Yeah, no, definitely. I mean, I don't know a lot of

times, I feel like there's been bigger penalties for like, out

in California, you know, using the whip one too many times,

right? Yeah, exactly.

So, it's like, how is that the same?

You know, I don't think it is at least.

No, it definitely it. Yeah.

So, do you Do we have the stretch?

Run on that one j.d.? As simplification sweeps up out

wide simplification is now taking the lead in the fountain

of youth team. Delivers his so game.

He's trying to hold on for second down the center in due

time. Emmanuelle between

simplification for Antonio Sabato, when the Fountain of

Youth, there it is. So don't worry, we'll see if um,

if that horse, did he have to go back and watch that and actually

see, but he actually finished on the wrong lead there and I

wasn't sure he ever switched from the Turn or if you just got

tired and swapped off there because that's obviously really

important. When you're talking about

getting to the Kentucky Derby when I'm out with 16th here,

going to have to stretch out to your mom a quarter.

So obviously these horses are still developing as we get to

the first Saturday in May, but that's definitely something to

watch. As you go throughout the

Kentucky Derby preparations. For any of our listeners that

aren't aware, leads are definitely a big thing for me at

least when I'm trying to figure out how much stamina resources

have. Also super disappointed in

Rattle and Roll, but it's side purple horse.

I was actually just kind of underwhelmed by the entire race

of you on a scale truth. Like, I went back and watched it

and, you know, it's unfortunate that the spill happened but it

didn't look to me. Like, just from the pace, set

up, whatever else. I know, the favorite got off to

a terrible start out of the gate I got bushel wide.

It was exciting to see them go like four, five, six wide, but

for a while. So, but you know, It was a slow

pace. Just it really didn't do any

much for me. But, you know, I think we talked

about that last week though, and being that this deal was very

well, you kind of were, but not really okay.

But, you know, this, at least for me, I thought this was a

spread race because I felt like it was.

There were some standout horses that at least had more

consistency, but it didn't really feel like there was a

monster in here, you know, and it could go either way.

I like simplification obviously the 7 to 2 odds, I thought were

fair, but this is one of those races that I felt like was a

what it was a grade 2, right? I think we kind of labeled it

like a grade 3, maybe a lot of horses coming out from allowance

racism such. All right, so, let's move on to

the San Felipe, which we lost JD temporarily, but JB will be back

to give us the video here pretty soon, but Forbidden Kingdom in

the San Felipe. Louis wants you go first here,

it just it kind of answer. question of who, Who's the best

horse in three year, old crop right now.

I mean, when you see a performance like that and it

only seems to be insane idea to just happens to be with a

different dude. So it's Megan has had a lot more

experience, Southern California than any, of us and Raves about

Mandela as a trainer and as a Horseman.

And so it's nice to see him have a horse like this.

Now the last time he did horse scratched out Derby week and we

were all very disappointed and so hopefully we're not in that

situation again. And we see this horse in the in

the San Anita Derby and and on that Crack.

Because what could he say it was?

It was wildly impressive. I want to see him in Messier in

the same race, obviously, just to see what that guy's but it's

it's nice. I think we have a couple of

horses that have done things that are very different than

epicenter did something very different, a couple of weeks

ago, that was very noteworthy. That style can win the style.

The Forbidden Kingdom ran is a winner.

Messi is just a freak, right. So we've got a couple of these

three year olds that are really, you know, on that next level.

And he's added his lame, not to that list for sure.

Might have Gone to the top of it.

Franklin. Alright I think Daddy's back

lets watch this real quick before we get the other two

takes. Maybe not on the front end

Advantage. Doppelganger is clearly second

but it is Forbidden Kingdom a stellar display6 length lead,

past the 16th pole and what a performance from Forbidden

Kingdom under one Hernandez in the San Felipe.

I mean, Megan, when you take a doppelganger was 825 and that

and you still he just got completely dominated the way he

did. I mean, what were your case

knowing that, you know, saying I need a so.

Well, well, you know, the one thing is, this is a big question

mark for a lot in here because we had a, plenty of horses,

stretching out and going around a ground for the first time.

But it also felt some me, although, there were two Bob

baffert horses in the race, you know, it felt like there wasn't

a big Contender against Forbidden Kingdom.

When Talk about doppelganger. Well Forbidden Kingdom already

beat him last time by two and a quarter length.

So that was his closest company. And I didn't feel like it posed

as much of a threat for that particular horse now.

So I have two thoughts on this one.

He didn't really be one very many horses but to maybe the

quality wasn't the same as him. But so it's kind of like well

who did he beaten small Fields, California, whatever you want to

say, but the way that he did it, I thought was very impressive.

It essentially looks like a paid work out to me.

He had, you know we went wire to wire that works is Ears were

pricked up the whole time. I mean, he was a happy horse, he

was doing it very easily. So I love that that I also

noticed it this time but they did run the horse at least in

the past, two races in a different bit.

But he used to run in a ring bit and I actually texted Gary

Mandela to kind of confirm for this because I think it's

important when you're dealing with younger horses, but he ran

them in a Houghton bit. So it Has it's a little bit

longer and it almost looks like it's like a circle within a

circle. And then a bar that connects the

two. But typically, it's used for

horses that lug out a little bit more log in or out, but he said

he didn't. He doesn't have that habit.

He just seemed a little bit more comfortable in it.

So they've tried that the past couple of races and obviously

he's done just fine. But it's one of those things

that I try to notice to just with all of my horsey knowledge

and years of breaking. My back on these animals is

those little changes can be really indicative of a horses.

Like, Growth and how they're learning like Dale, Romans

switched one time before the Breeders Cup when he had that a

few years ago. And he so drove a much harsher

bit. And I thought, wow, this horse

is like coming out of his skin and his training that they had

to get to pretty much a gag bit to keep them contained.

So I like to hear that he doesn't have that habit.

Because again, as we continue to stretch out as this gets much,

much more difficult for these horses.

A habit of lugging interlocking out whether it's fatigue, or

it's just something that they do, can Deter horse from I think

having its best performance. So JD you were there.

Jenny you were there in person. What do you think about seeing

it live? Oh, maybe we didn't get JD, I

thought we were going to get them.

Very, would you think about the the performance there?

Um, those are heart races to evaluate when you have such a

small field. It's kind of hard to tell what

what you got there and forbidden king of obvious.

He's talented, he's very fast. You know, my only question is

you know, the Derby distance may not be his strong suit, you

know? I'm not sure that horse can get

them all the quarters. Some lot of Sprint in his on his

mother's side which could inhibit him going forward with.

That being said, there's a lot of speed also, you know, all the

top contenders like epicenter, like to be formally placed as

well. So, you know, I don't know how

the Derby sets up for this horse, but as of right now, you

have to think of that horse to the contender because there's

really nobody that that technically is as fast as that

one. Right?

And we did have the last eight winners of the San Felipe.

There's been two of the horses who have gone on to win the

Derby with authentic and California Chrome, so that it

can be a very good. Of course, with the best, the

best 30 last year, came out that race as well.

We just did get race in the derby of cord because you can,

but do you know, Spirit finished second in the San Felipe to life

is good. It was the best real last week.

All right, so yeah, come on. No doubt about it.

Let's go on to the Gotham and look at JD's got this pulled up.

Let's look at Morello here. 3/4 1 and 113.

Here is Morello to move right along side of Dean's, List

Dean's, less digs down at the rail Morano on the outside and

maretto is now in front Dean's List is back running in.

Second that it is golden code and life is great.

Morello is drawing away here in this Ranch and the

three-year-old will stay undefeated.

He's 3 for 3 and he wins the grade 3, Gotham by more than

four lights. All right, so there's the the

winner of the Gotham and of course, we know that the winner

of the Gotham hasn't really mattered much recently, Barry.

I'll start with you. Anything here to say that this

is going to be different? No, I think this.

This race was very, very weak other than the winner.

I think the second place horse is probably best suited for, you

know, ten miles and so on. So, it's hard to evaluate.

I mean, we've had horses from Santa Anita in the past few

years, just beat up on pretty bad.

A petition and then dominate when it came to the Triple Crown

races. So it's kind of hard to stack

them up against one another. I mean, there's really no knocks

on mirela obviously but you know I'm just really skeptical about

what he'd be last week. So I think that's really fair.

And on top of that, the only thing I would say in his defense

is that is a smooth looking horse.

Like there's he's not raced a lot and he does not look green.

Like, it's really, I mean, that's smooth stride.

There was not a lot of work being done on him, that was a

straight line down the stretch there.

I don't, I don't know if that translates to two turns

eventually or like very mentioned, like trying to get

time for a Long's, like, any of that stuff?

It's just, I mean, whatever Steve's doing with that horse.

Keep doing it. And, you know, we talked about,

you know, talked about this last week, you know, when you, when

you handicapped these races. Now, Is the time to think about

the Derby, when you're handicapping, the races.

Know, it's a one-term. I'll think about it as a 1 turn.

My little ones or at least that's how you handicapped, but,

yeah, Derby purposes. Yeah, I'm looking at it.

Now, does that horse get two turns out.

The answer is, I don't know. But I mean, Steve, as mustard is

going to have a Porsche motor Starting Gate, so it's always

fun to get that hair around here man.

Let's go Megan. Yeah, your Creations dead,

right? Well, what New York Racing is

dead. I personally, you know, don't I

never really enjoyed going back, but that's what I like.

So maybe this isn't my favorite like season in New York, right

thing. But no, I mean I thought at

least he did it easily kind of like Louis said that was that

was good to see. So he passed that test for me

and Steve as a Muslim, certainly knows what he's doing, but those

horses of still, plenty of Derby starters, I'm just never gonna

be a thing for me but I don't And I kind of I kind of do love

the New York hunch play though on Morello which I really want

to say is Morello because it was a name which I wish.

This is where I wish Michael Rona was the announcer at every

track. As he always is so much research

and resources but it's apparently the last name of one

of the earliest crime families in New York and so they were

commercial here. Megan Talking to me and they

were in Harlem and they were based there and then it said,

verbatim a based in Harlem, before, gaining dominance in

Italian, underworld by defeating their rival in Brooklyn.

Like, yeah, I think of it as a guitar player for Rage Against

the Machine and tamburello. By the way, if no one's ever

seen. He was on top of Kelly's podcast

which is really great, it's really, really good.

And the two of them talked about black guitarist and music.

I picked, I think people don't know / has a black guy actually

had people don't know. Yeah, right, exactly.

It's actually, it's an interesting thing to like here.

And I guess when Tom Morello was growing up, what are the things

you pointed out? Was everyone wanted him to,

like, play Hendrix because that was the the shooting stars

shining example. Who's like, no, I want to I want

to play like the stones like that's how I got, you know they

have these other, you know, influences like people.

Do. But if anyone's not seen them,

the the tone of the color from Black Star, whatever, as a

really great podcast and Tom Morello on one side was awesome.

Episode, that explanation of that name, sound like the, you

know, the back of the video game for Grand Theft Auto right?

I thought I had to mention it as I looked up.

I was like, this is too good. I have to, I have to save this.

All right, so so our buddy here, Barry is going to be breaking

down. All the action.

I'm sorry. What matter, what I like.

So, I am actually looking at the show sheet and there's nothing

about Turfway on the show, she was a ten-pointer.

Well also the horse that Sugar 1 1, so I guess it's okay, there

you go. Alright let's talk a little bit

about Tampa Bay in the big weekend they got coming up with

mean it's gonna be a huge day in our in our co-host here today is

going to be in the paddock, which I'll tell you.

The trick is to always pick Big Fudge.

I'm one for one, I'm one for one.

So, there you go. So what are you looking forward

to this weekend? Barry.

Hmm. Just being out there, you know,

getting a chance to kind of get in front of the crowd and and

give out some pics and see how good things go.

I hopefully it won't be a washout.

At least the preliminary or latest weather report says, it's

going to probably rain in the morning and then clear up.

So That'll be nice. You know, mid-70s, perfect.

Hopefully it's not a washout and we get some nice Turf races in

there, too. It's gonna be a little bit

different here on Saturday, by the way, freaky frigid know, why

would you go that soccer again? Why would you go that talk to

you because I'm an idiot? I mean, last don't ask questions

about my idiocy. That's not like that is.

What are you doing? Don't do that.

My people watching, I feel like we should actually learn a

little bit more about berries and, you know, meeting him on

the show and our viewers and listeners are to.

So Barry. How do you even get into her

Jersey? Hmm.

Well my grandfather my father when I was little I used to live

in Massachusetts so I'm not far into the concept of snow.

Yeah I like to disassociate myself from that.

That are of my life because I hate the cold, but we used to,

you know, my grandparents lived in Brooklyn used to go to

Aqueduct Belmont, and then when we got older or when I got

older, we used to go to Saratoga for week Travers week.

And when I was eight years old, he had Paddock seminar where you

learn to read the racing form, gave us a five dollar voucher

and you know they get to class. I think it's about 45 minutes

and I learned how to read it. Picked a couple of winners that

day game with my dad. Play in the took off from there.

I always kind of liked the, you know, see no horses in the silks

and everything when I was small and it's just kind of

progressed. When I was in high school, I

started reading more and more books on on how to handicap

making speed figures. I did that for a little while,

you know, just kind of testing the waters and see what I could

do and, you know, and it just kept rolling and rolling gotten

a turn. It play for, you know, for five

years and just you know, kind of built everything up and Here I

am on the entire world, right? That's his nickname.

Yes, exactly. There's only really one

question. By the way to ask Barry.

Oh, if you're starting an NBA team, need a power forward, is

it Ben Wallace or Charles Oakley course?

It's been wild. That was my roommate.

Roommate. No, it was.

I when I went to Virginia, I play basketball Virginian for

two years and then I transferred to a division to school up in

near where I used to live before I started playing overseas, but

the truth is I was at College. Okay, it's a hockey school

buddy. Yes it is hockey but they they

just went he went basketball years ago.

But yeah, you know, We live together.

That's my man. And so she's trying to figure

out that's funny or not. Yeah, a friend of mine had

played at. Well, what's now considered

Southern New Hampshire University back in.

It was New Hampshire, the college but he's a coach.

I think for least ER Riders. Uh-huh, they have lived in

women's program to, so yeah. All right.

How tall are you 6 3? Okay.

Yo you can tell if a guy is way more Way more interesting is,

how tall is Ben Wallace? Actually a, he 69 okay?

Without because he didn't have no I actually put up a picture

on Facebook of our team the other day.

Every year we used to do poster, you know, and this when we were

in the courtroom and Ben was the judge and we were all They are

the jury box in a we're in a courtroom and in Richmond

Virginia at the time. So yeah, it was pretty cool.

I put it up for everybody, great.

So then the huge is Hoosier, March Madness Pig going into it

right now. Oh I know you're paying

attention to that. Yeah I mean as much as I don't

like Duke, I think Duke is pretty damn good and I think in

Saga just they always come close.

They're like the ultimate It hanger and racing where they

come close and then just miss their the man DeLuna.

Yes, I think it's called acidosis.

Are you talking to hate on John? I tell you what, I have a short.

Charles Oakley stories though. Okay.

Every year, you know, we have practice, you know, preseason

practice and, you know, it was right around the time, like end

of August September issue. We're used to kind of do a

workout stuff before we actually officially practice and Charles

used to come in every year and kind of take us out to dinner

and you know, kind of Meet the new guys and stuff like that.

But he'd also would play, you know, you know, our pickup games

and you know, I was a freshman and And it's like, you know, I

thought it was okay. Even though, you know, I was

later humbled, but I made a move at the top of the key.

He got into the lane and I got hit with the craziest forearm

shiver in bang right under the basket.

So, this dance another basket and I was hurting like I had the

wind knocked out of me and it was just clobbered me comes

along in a pickup game. I can only imagine what Oakley

wallets going against each other.

In those pickup games would have been like, man.

It was, it was rough. I mean, they're from the same

area, like, right. In fact, Oakley got him to the

junior college. He went to before he ended up

everything Union and in Cleveland.

So they knew each other for a while but they yeah.

It was bad ass. Like, it was like watching like,

you know, Godzilla vs. Mighty, Joe Young.

It was just like two giant dudes going at And and they were very

good and it was just something to see and being around been in

Washington practice like I know in the league, he wasn't like a

score but he was just so much bigger faster stronger than

everybody. We played with in college.

That, you know, there was a game we had up in Pennsylvania

somewhere where he had 10 dunks, 20, points, and write, and he,

obviously can't shoot free throws, but that's a whole

You know yeah sure. That's really the only

difference. I mean, we play VCU and got

beaten over time by one. You know, we could hang with

anybody, our team to play with. I mean, literally like our top

12, guys. On that team played overseas.

Wow. And not all of us played right,

right? Wow, not everybody played so.

You know, it we had a real is that a really good team?

Megan's? Why I like this is way too much

basketball talk. So, I mean, we could do a little

while when I was a kid, and School used to final fours and

well. Yeah, one of those.

One of those whores got vacated. So you've met your nickname was

Duncan Stein. She doesn't get that you did

though. Well, then he just throws out to

you, so hopefully she's back in place.

Yeah, we'll get back. All right, let's talk about

let's talk. I know she got it was a bit.

So, and I know though, like, you know, there were some string

yard issues going on, so hopefully it all gets figured

out, Megan might have to leave and come back in.

So let's go on to Tampa Bay though.

Let's start talking about the big day because there's all

kinds of stakes races and you're sticking around handicapping

with us. I take it there and if you want.

Alright? Alright, then let's go right to

the pink. Starts to race seven, the gray

to Hillsborough Stakes Mile and an eighth on the turf or

feelings of marriage for years and up Louie.

Who do you like here? Yeah, by the way, shout out to

the folks at Tampa Bay, it's all Stakes pick five.

It's none of this like there is a main reason at the end of the

day but it's literally just a clear me out, you know, move the

traffic kind of race which is awesome.

Excuse me. So I'm using two locals and one

coming off the layoffs. In this one, Chad Brown has the

five Bleecker Street, who is with Hector Diaz there.

He's gonna be the morning. My favorite to 1444 lifetime,

coming in here, going to need something to run at.

And that's she'll have that. Which is the three ladies fight

spear whom she ran down, last time in the great three

Endeavor, ads him a down to the beginning of February.

And then I'll go ahead and take the.

I read Chad combination on the 6th Rocky Sky, who they thought

enough of to try to tackle. The Saratoga Oaks last summer.

Has now been off for seven months you better in the entire

industry off the way often. Chad Brown and I read is sitting

at 50% and Sample, it does this year.

So it's a brow by the way, that a measly 45%.

So I'll take the two locals on top and then I'll take the 6 on

5 3 & 6 in the Hillsborough. I'm glad you're back Megan.

Barry. How about you what do you think

about this race? Honestly, I didn't finalize

anything on this shirt all but I will tell you that that I'm most

likely going to land on lady spice beer.

She scratched Get out of the Pegasus Turf, female Turf race.

I believe she had a fever that day.

They scratched her Ranter in Tampa, and I think she was like

a work short and she ran like it.

I mean, if you go back and watch that that race, she gets from

the house. You just a little bit short and

Bleeker Street, brand, or down. So I think she's going to be a

lot better for the place. She doesn't actually necessarily

need. Lead, which is a good thing.

In case, somebody like Gladys kind of gets the jump on her but

yeah I'm leaning that way with you know, kind of Runaway

Runaway rumor, you know, kind of Off the Bench.

I think that horse has some run here and Nantucket Reds gonna

try to get somebody to write. So I mean, this is a race where

there's actually a fair amount of front speed so I agree.

Yeah. That's why it's kind of

interesting to see what they're going to do with Lady spice

beer. I think they're just going to

settle in as kind of like second flight and get It first running

in, that might be it for everybody else, right?

MD. Well sorry if I repeat anything

that Louis said considering I didn't really hear any of it but

well we are you to happens. I mean I just think you just

take Louise notes. I mean gestures widely, that's

it. Yeah, I really couldn't figure

out which Chad Brown horse. I wanted to use in here but

seems like there's three her. How he's guided Louise, I like

that. Ha.

He has stays On Bleecker Street and obviously has been on that

horse for her entire career. So he certainly knows her really

well. But you bring in Chad and irad

and first time Lasix for this horse, you know, she got a

layoff but he's very good at bringing horses back after some

time. So I actually think Rocky sky is

going to be maybe the better of the two, but I do like the local

experience from the five. Obviously, I like the three you

guys mentioned ladies fight, Spears long.

As you can kind of get her stuff together and then I thought it

was the other words. I think.

I looked at runaway rumor in here as possible include because

I like the fact that this horse can write off the pace can close

a little bit, you have those, you know, a couple of speed

horses in here between ladies B here and Gladys, who at least

was on the lead lap time in. Take a red on the outside and as

much as I I like Gladys and we talked about her being the

folder, Rachel and Alexander, and whatever.

I just think she's gonna be overmatched in here.

So JD what was the price on, Gladys.

That was at 21. Yeah.

So that feels right. That's kind of where I was going

in my head, too. So sentimental play for many but

I'll probably leave officer. All right, so let's move on to

the next race, which is the Challenger Stakes.

Oddly enough about the Challenger Stakes for 10 years.

They had a Budweiser sponsorship.

Hmm. Okay, alright.

So here it is four year olds and up on the turf 11-mile 1/16.

And who do you like here? We'll start with Barry on this

one. I'm sorry.

This on the dirt. I said, I said the turf but this

is, yeah, this is an interesting race.

And I mean, you have a bunch of horses that are kind of coming

off the bench here and you got, you know, greatest honor who who

is pretty dominant early last year until he kind of got hurt

this horse on the inside. Wolfies Dinah goes ran a bang-up

race on on the synthetic at on Pegasus day and it was really

impressive and Honestly the race check kind of favorites that

horse quite a bit on the rail because I don't really think the

other speeds in here are as fast.

I know there was some some support for Cody's wish who

again hasn't been out in a while.

And that's a, that's a tough task against this group.

This is a really tough group but, you know, a horse, like War

stopper, could fall into a great trip.

So there's a lot of Direction. Options to go.

I mean even if you like, you know, one thing I can say about

this race even though I don't really have a definite selection

is some really going to be against Dynamic one.

I just don't like this setup. I don't, you know, you can't

trust a horse like this and I think he's 1:55 on the morning

line. It's just doesn't doesn't seem

like appropriate. I will bury here at my long shot

of the week is in this race. It's actually the seven tune in

has won his last two over the slop actually.

So, if this is a wet weight racetrack, I think that's a

thing to consider this weekend at Tampa Bay and both of those.

By the way, were fun, ran, a 90 speed figure over the slop and

September. So I'm putting the 7 on top.

There are two Colts at the very mention that are coming in off

the layoffs, which is greatest, honor the three and then Dynamic

one before Both are heralded both were, you know, both super

talented last year, give me and I see this is where I'll push

back on. Barry.

Give me Dynamic one of that group because I think Pleasures

numbers are better off the layoffs.

Did win over muddy go at the at Saratoga in the Curlin.

So my top two here is 7 for tune in and dynamic.

One Meghan. I I like greatest honor.

I mean I think in class class class 1 class here, obviously

the fact I agree with you he's a little unreliable and then he is

case. Dependence.

But I think you're going to get that from the inside, especially

the Paco on. I think were stopper.

Just his best running when he's on or near the lead tuned in as

well. You've got scalding, who's got

some speed and Cody's wish and Charles B are both kind of

forwardly place to. So I actually think that this

could be a pretty decent spot for him and I think, you know,

sugar is he wins at 21%, one bringing horses back off the

layout. So I think this is a really well

spotted horse here and Jose knows them.

Well, he's Going to get Lasix here for the first time, which,

you know, maybe could help him. We'll see.

But I'm definitely on greatest honor.

I thought about the six hidden stash as well, for Vicki Oliver,

because kind of, for the kind of the same reasons.

I think there is enough speed in this spot too close.

We already know this worst as well here at Tampa.

Although hasn't one has finished a really close second and third.

And that was the last year to have a derby.

So I think Vicki Oliver is a very, very talented trainer.

And you know the sources run against some of the horses that

will show up in here. Anyways, switching back.

Alright I think is a good thing, they tried the turf in the past

two races and or three and okay, but I don't know that it was his

best effort for sure. So I think hidden stashes an

interesting play and then I had the eight scalding as a possible

includes just because he has. Obviously this is a big big step

up from a sixteen thousand dollar allowance optional

claiming but has a local experience here at Tampa so it

was a pretty good number for that horse and we'll see if he's

able to kind of repeat that here since He has proven that he

likes the surface. I do want to say to Cody's wish

the first is an all of its winning at Churchill Downs.

But this is the horse that is actually named for really was 15

last year's. I don't know if he's 16 now.

Cody doorman who has a rare genetic disorder and this is a

Make-a-Wish horse so oh yeah no it's really cool.

I don't know I don't know if Cody is still with us.

I hope he is certainly but this has been a really cool story to

kind of follow along with because this is a Have a dolphin

horse and any did, okay. And then all of a sudden he just

has turned in win after win after win at least in Kentucky.

So it was pretty cool. I guess the doorman family

attended keeneland's, Make-a-Wish day and the Cody

developed a special bond with the horse from when he was just

a full. So it was pretty cool.

Neat thing to follow along with. I was going to say today, one of

the themes is going to be if horses do well on Saturday,

where they placed in the spring and major races, right?

I think I was like, if Cody's with shows up here, that's a pat

De Mi horse written all over it. Success at Churchill Downs and

even if Cody's which doesn't show up here, I think he

possibly shows I do because he obviously has shown that he

loves the church, I'll track so it's like I almost think but

Churchill's surface is I think pretty different from Tampa

surface so it's one of those things that I'm a little bit

hesitant, you know, try not to get carried away in the in the

sentimental part of it but I just don't know that he's going

to like that because you know, it's a little bit.

I think he just really did not do well over the Saratoga and

Belmont tracks. And so was it.

The distance was at the track? I don't know, but I'll push back

a little because we watched King Guillermo go from the Tampa Bay

game. Oh my God from from Tampa Bay

and unfortunately there was but he went from that to the

surface. Really fast.

Alright well The next race is the model 16th on the turf.

It is the 42 Oaks and we have a special producers pick right

here. You're looking for class in this

year's edition of the floor to Oaks.

You need to go no further than the one saddlecloth Mrs. Barbara

621 on the morning line coming off of a victory back.

In November in the great three Nazarene at Woodbine, but we're

going to go first to looking back at September 19th, a great

one, that's Alma a win, and you're in for the Breeders Cup

and you'll see after not starting.

Well Mrs. Barbara is going to be on the far outside here.

The winner, Wild Beauty the good dolphin runner for Charles

Appleby runs away. S inside is a little horse

called Pizza. Bianca who ended up?

Winning this Breeders Cup race and the 10 eminent Victor.

Finished. Third of very strong.

Horse out of the Chad Brown Barn, a good finish for Mrs,

Barbara there on this day. This is the great three mazarin

a little closer to the PACE and you'll see Mrs. Barbara come

with a Run late and that horse inside is Moira, who is number

one, engine Morrison's top 10 for the Woodbine, folks rankings

for this coming year. So keep an eye on the one mrs.

Barber, especially if she floats up from that 621 morning line to

pull the upset in the Florida, Oaks good luck in all your

handicapping endeavors. It Louis JD picking a horse.

Who's never won on the turf, is only one on the synthetic.

What else do you think about this race to for dogs?

Yeah that was a remarkably bad pick that I appreciate that.

We have that segment so yeah, that's great.

About these things. If you're going to talk about,

is that no? No.

It should be The Tragically Hip, which is actually Canadian.

All right, so I've got the seven, a little luck.

You get a Little Lovin lost. I don't get it.

So we can't drink every time for this.

We can't do it with our guide pocket Lopez and trainer Mike

Dooney. They tried her, the Suncoast to

see if she's a Kentucky Oaks or say ever back on the turf where

she has the best speed figure in this field.

Actually went from maybe when to listed Stakes when two and three

starts back, she should love the move back to Turf.

I actually think and speaking of Of where are these horses going

next? If she wins here.

I think there's a chance. She comes up with a bourbon at

Oaks at Turfway park on the synthetic and tries to get her

way into the Kentucky, Oaks. I think she's that talented.

So, I have the 7 on top here. I also like the numbers on both

of the Chad Brown injuries here, the three dolce's L and the six

Spicer and Ortiz on each in the morning line.

Favorite is on this year's. I like her fourth best here but

I think there's a serious chance that she wins here.

So I am 76 3 and 9 in the Oaks All right, Barry.

What you got. Well, it seems like this.

This race is a lot more wide open than The morning line

suggest. If the nine horse a tus, the

tweeze shoes. Not really sure if that horse

was drawn inside or slightly inside like, you know, the five,

I could buy that 321 morning line and be a little bit more

comfortable but have and having that horse way on the outside, I

think it kind of opened things up.

You know, you have to think a horse like Dolce cell would

benefit for some, you know, softness in the ground.

So if it rains and they still run it on the turf, that one you

might have to kind of upgrade a little bit, you know, a lot of

trainers that I've talked to tend to think and understand or

know. That a lot of the French horses,

love the, the soft softer going and that one you have to upgrade

a horse like sweet Duchess. Also intrigues me a lot, here is

very much on the improve and there's not really all that much

to be in here. You know, these aren't the

greatest, this isn't the greatest group.

So it's I think it's kind of wide open and it should be a fun

race to watch. Also, Oh, I think you're right.

It's a blanket finish. Almost certainly in this kind of

race for children MD. Quick question, are there any

other we lost? Only Louise?

Also like a single dad right now with all the 8,000 kids he has,

he's breaking 80 million children, so no Tom.

What's going on there? He's back.

He probably got unplug by one of his kids or something.

So you good, you good, bro? So, I don't get to be on the

left off of this is exciting. Is there any, oh, every year

olds? Out Turf races that are have

Oaks in the name. Or is this just a Tampa?

Its asset a thing I read about this like seven or eight

actually. Okay.

Yeah, cuz I upon first glance, I was like, oh, this is the Oaks

prep and then I was like, oh it's on Turf, don't know.

But yeah, I don't know. I think well, the Dunbar Oaks is

on Turf, right? And it still turns the Saratoga

Oaks the Belmont. Oaks the Edgewood, they're all

huh? Yep.

I mean, yeah, I know Derby. It's more of a three-year-old

thing, but I was just curious because we don't, I don't feel

like it's more commonly. Tell Jax is like a mile and

three sixteenths, right? So and then Belmont spinal cord.

Yeah so yeah they're all interns.

Yeah. Yeah.

Three-year-old routing cetera. But um how do you say the nines?

Name all these years? Yeah that one ambitious but

female just going to let you do that.

I like this one for Grandma, shouldn't quite a bit but she's

already competed pretty well at the It's a sea level in Florida.

I think was good. Don't know what happened to her

first time. She still finish their

undergraduate. She did send Bob finished behind

Spicer who shows up in this race, then went to the

synthetic. How to win their?

It translated pretty well over to that short.

Course they are go shoot Park. So hopefully she'll like it here

too. She just get wasted for the

first time and I'm just a big Grand motion fan and her

workouts coming into this race to have been absolutely

fantastic. So I feel like this is a horse

that's sitting on, possibly her best effort and just the fact

that like I said, she has that created snakes.

Experience which, you know, you find in a horse like Mrs.

Barbara on the inside for Mark. A see if they're Woodbine you

know there's quite a few other horses in here who are just kind

of stepping up a little bit more and so you don't know what

you're going to get. I think you exclude Chad Brown

Runners where the 3 and the 6 at your own Peril and and then this

should course. There's at the eight I think it

is. Yeah, I agree.

Yeah, on alert. I mean Bread kind of similarly

right with on the juices. Well with medaglia D'oro

spitball seems to like the extra distance that's been shown in

their races as well. So yeah, I don't know, but I

think the guy is definitely going to be my topic in there,

especially with a little bit more of a wider trip.

Last, I'm curious to see, kind of how she does here on this

course. And obviously she does break

from the outside, so she'll have to kind of figure it out, but I

think she looks to me like a horse that has the ability to

kind of be placed a little bit closer or she can make a Run

from off of it. So I like her versatility.

So, Meghan, it's a great three. - yeah, there is not his head.

Yes Barry. This is a fun thing.

We do it. Barry says yes, it's a great

three. So he's not his head.

So all the listeners at honking here.

So yeah, alright, so he's all about very obviously.

Other say, it's a game, we get to grade them ourselves.

So yeah, let's move on. Let's move on to the way, we

can't be that still hurts my feelings.

Yeah, that's great. All right, let's move on

delicious steaks, which is Columbia Stakes.

It's a monitor for three-year-olds 75,000 dollars

here. So who do we like in this one?

We'll start with making this up since we haven't tried with

Megan. I don't think yet.

So unless you think I want to start.

No no I want to save my first one.

I want to start first in the Tampa Bay Area.

Okay, all right Louis go. Yeah I don't want to wait, I

think there's a chance by the time they get to this point of

the Card that both the Columbia stakes in the last race are

actually off the turf. And so, for that reason, I have

the three kitten Mischief on top here.

Trying to work for the first time.

If it's on but broke has been over.

Muddy. Go in the fall ran s AP secret

an optional claimer, then up the track in the Davis.

I think this is much more his level especially if we're going

in the slop. The eight Gingrich Mega do.

You understand the reference? Gingrich is not a fun game for

me. All right, bro.

Katie put up the new hat. Megan is true young.

There it is. There it is.

That's that's when she get with. Yeah, that was a 1994 reference

and Megan was likely a year old or something.

But anyways, go for some pretty good told you that.

Yeah. Broke his Maiden / / yielding go

at Keeneland, this part of a big blanket finish and the Dania

Beach at Gulfstream Park on New Year's Day, nineteen percent off

the layoffs for trainer Brian Lynch.

So for me that yielding experience plus being part of

that, that blanket finish there and the Dania Beach where I

recently stayed with my family, just south of Fort Lauderdale is

delightful fragrance that a humble brag but it's not.

No, it's not. It was me and in like it was me

and then like ten thousand Russians like that's what that

neighborhood was like. It was really But the Russian

food was good summer. So and then and then like I

said, 90% off the layout for attorney Brian Lynch.

So that's an include for me and then I had the 64 Washington

coming in off the way up. In the third spot is going to

have grumbly to Chase and we'll need that pace on Moodle 386 in

the Columbia. All right, Barry.

Yeah, this isn't, this is another one.

That could be wide open. I don't see any dominant

presence here. You know, a horse, I really kind

of caught my eye. Was the one bends mouth at a

price. I think just just the fact that

horse draws the rail is a big big bonus, just because the the,

you know, a lot of the speeds going to come from the outside

and this one can It's fast enough to get in position, you

know, whether that happens or not, I don't know.

And I also kind of like the two little bit wake surf.

Whoo upbeat by Gingrich first time out at Keeneland on a

yielding course. And then improved tremendously.

When coming down here to Gulfstream at the kind of

mid-December Could be any kind, you know, I think that horse has

the, the talent to compete whether or not they can get it

done on Saturdays. Definitely something to be seen,

but this is this another tough race.

I mean, it's not a huge field by any means, but pretty decent

size and it's pretty wide open. So, I think this pick five can

has really good potential to pay some some good water.

The maggots about to say something really nice about you

and Harvey. Go, go begging.

Oh and Hardy you got to pronounce his name, right?

Oh my god. Did I say I'm sorry?

Pronounce things like twice a year.

It's okay, we're good. Okay.

I mean you're you're the I get it announcer of the show.

That is your rope. Renouncers?

What your role is for announcer? What Megan saying is every one

of the four announcer you have to finish your drink because I

mispronounce something going to play that game the pronoun, sir.

That's what I'm pretty sure. It's let's go exactly slime.

I need it. I think figure if there's any

race where you consider hitting the all button, it's possibly

this one. It for me.

It's and I'm not at all but in person at all, but, I mean, I

don't know if I love a horse like night jumper, although, you

know, you have a little bit of local experience here.

Had a slow start, maybe there's an excuse there, had a

super-fast work on this track. Obviously the main track only

entry, I don't typically bet own party horses in California, but

Tampa is. Different case.

But yeah, I mean, I just went down this and I kept adding

numbers to the top of my page. I had the six horse in there

with, for Washington who you guys mentioned, getting Lasix,

for the first time coming off a bit of a layout there.

But again, that's an angle. Where should we eat?

Does very, very well. You get him to Tina with have

York estolano, the three horse. I'm a huge fan of Jonathan

Thomas and low. He's kind of off to a slow start

here at Tampa with the nine Runners that he's had so far.

I just think he's An excellent Horseman.

And I'm curious to see what the source is able to do switching

over onto a new Surface. Obviously, that was the

intention for this one. As this plan to run on the turf

first time and then they got rained off.

Plus has plenty of breeding there with the kittens, draw a

line for the turf. So I'm not really too worried

about that and yeah, but I mean I like are no delacroix's horse.

The the 9 electrostatic there who's coming off a really long

way off, but he does Axl. What are we hearing?

Are you guys doing that? Or is it just me?

I don't hear anything. I was here instead of my

headphones. I apologize.

All right. So I don't know what the hell

just happened. - who is my headphones?

Brian, Boitano. My God.

I'm gonna quit the shower. I'm not even kidding.

Wow, number three. What would Brian Boitano do?

Plan today because number three, Baylor has just gone down in the

quarterfinals of the Big 12. There's one seat folks.

Yeah. Now, I don't want any more go

can go cats, go in a bunch of games.

Yeah, they're gonna, they're gonna win this one.

All right. Megan, would you like to now

make your Tampa Bay Derby picks? This is what you doing for what

am I just didn't? What if I just hung up, we'll

talk. Yeah, I know.

So I am. I'm very interested in this

race. I appreciate classic Causeway.

Obviously, the age of five favorite for Brian Lynch, and I

read or teach Junior who did pretty well last time.

But there is another horse in here that I really wanted to

mention who I talked about leading up into this and that

Davis and that is trademark the to in the one thing I want to

point out is will go back and pulling.

I know that. Oh cursed, why I think?

Okay, okay. This horse has come The layout

is very, very well at Churchill Downs.

I thought was going to be in pretty good form and it's a Matt

Davis and make a good run of it was treating really well.

We saw Vicki Oliver do nicely at this track last year with hidden

stash when she finished second and the Tampa Bay Derby.

And I just think she's next one, horse women as well, but this

works is actually within striking range.

If you look at the running lines, it says 6, I think behind

by like three and a half lengths or something like that, it was

definitely ready to strike and then we get to the I guess into

the turn, the beginning of the turn and watch this horse have

to be taken back so drastically and Danny centeno just

absolutely wraps up. So at this point, I think this

is a six-horse that you're looking at here.

I love the fact that this this horse is still very much under a

hold. You can watch Danny's arms.

He's not really doing very much to move them whatsoever.

He starts to try to make his move.

Here's they're coming into the church and I thought it was

excellently time before start starts to bond a little bit.

Watch the seven come over. Eat Stand up on this horse, Jake

back right there and then it's done.

And he just wraps up and he says, you know what, we're just

going to save this for another look how high is Danny in the

irons and he's just going to kind of let this horse can do

down the stretch at. I don't even know where they

ended up finishing. It was just at the track but I

thought in talking about momentum and how important that

is for these races. That was a replay that I thought

was really, really important. And I still think this horse has

a decent shot to at least hit the board in at 32 1.

This is why you hang out with - I'd people that that that replay

is why you hang out with - I'd she sees those things that races

and I do not see them but that's awesome.

I mean everybody together you can say the horse is overmatched

from the start but I don't know. I think he's a talented so it

was a long shot last time too. But Olivia who won this race.

Two years ago. So the really important

historical moment that happened two years ago.

Was that King Guillermo came flying through.

Yeah I'd at 49 21 and just dominated.

Frankly, it's one of the great uncle Mo kids of all time.

When you think about, I mean, really, what do you think about

the horse racing Hall of Fame and what it stands for?

I'm, I'm excited. I will, it'll be my first trip,

but when King Guillermo was inducted, I'll be there for

sure. Yeah, so Trish Trish or guy.

Wait horse racing. Happy hour Hall of Fame.

That's a great idea. Is valuable to your elbows in

unanimously. That's what taxes also be, a won

the race, three years ago. 100% 10.

Okay yes, passes in as well. We already passes in.

Yeah. Hidden stash, in the Challenger

stakes and hidden stash finished.

Second in this race last year. Yeah, I'm sorry.

Go ahead and Louis. Who do you like in this race?

I think the really interesting horse is going to be ships

ational who was second in the Davis but has won twice over

wet. Go and so I'm I'm interested to

see if the wet go happens. The way that I think it's going

to. I think it's going to be At best

good. By the time, we get to this

race. And so the interesting thing is

you get Manning Franco instead of Javier Castellano.

So that's a big change. Look, the best horse in this

race is the for. And there's a reason that he's a

25 on the Morning Light, his name is classic Causeway.

If he shows up here in a big way in, not perfect conditions with,

I read Ortiz, it's going to be really hard to go against him,

Brian Lynch. By the way, is a Kentucky guy.

I think he lives in Simpsonville and well, he's an I am guy that

lives in this is me well ostrich I think has mail that's what we

were going to be the only train in the

world that I've ever seen. Get suspended for weed.

Yeah. Yeah.

I also the other horse that I really wanted to see is money

supply. The 11 Chad Brown, Jose Ortiz,

10:00 in the morning line, just broke his made an animated

special weight at Tampa at six furlongs.

This is a stretch out season for sure.

And so, I'm interested to see if that horse.

Has that kind of hand. There we go.

Stretch else is in. Let's go.

And so I'm interested if that's a combination that works a very

love that. Well, there you go.

It's so I'm not saying that Winning for sure.

But whatever that horse is form is in this race.

Going into eventually 100-point races, like we talked about.

Yeah, where's the source going? Next money supplies?

One of those forces that's a four hundred thousand dollar

purchase. Is that what I'm saying?

That's a practical joke, it so out of it to Mischief there by

Mitsubishi movement, with a Katie ride mayor, right?

And so that's that's the kind, of course, that could be a late

bloomer that we see on the scene later.

Yeah, yeah. It had obviously, you've got the

The Sire line there with practical joke in the intimacy

of wine, which is, I mean, its mission was just incredible.

I believe money supply is a half siblings to a multiple Stakes

Winner up there at Woodbine and then the second day I'm actually

a worsening jealous. Wildcat produced a Vita

Argentina. Who won a lot of very good races

including the LaBrea, the same Vicente, the Queen, the Sorento,

the moxa, that just the list goes on.

So there's definitely some big ones there.

Although obviously this isn't a course fast necessarily so we'll

have to see but I agree with you.

I think this is certainly one to watch if and include for me for

this race. But Curious to see, like you

said, what, what? They're targeting Forks,

obviously, the source is very little erased.

All right, now, we got to go to the man who will be in the

paddock for the yeah, you know, I'll say this about the horses

in this race. The Horses that finished behind

class of Causeway. A few of them in this race in

the same. F Davis had some legit excuses,

not taking anything away from classic Causeway, but I think

the others may have or got a lot more out of that race than

classic Causeway did and are eligible to improve ships.

Ational kind of leads that group, I mean if you watch the

replay, At the very start that horse just was straight-up

flat-footed and spotted the field about a length or so and

just kind of took that horse out of the game and he still ran

pretty good. You know all things considered

he gets a good break here, he's going to be tough and I think

that kind of contributed to how the trip ended up working out

for a classic Causeway. Another one that got a pretty

terrible trip that ran good was strike hard.

Another one that You know, if you watch the start, you'll see

the 8 was ships, ational and the 11 was strike hard and they just

post flat-footed at the start and just didn't get a chance and

they both ran on pretty good in strike house right there behind

simplification in the mucho Macho.

Man. Right so it's not as though.

Correct been like way back and filled before either.

You're totally right. He needs to be a little bit

closer and he kind of was up against it was out wide.

You know, five six wide going around the second.

Turn and just, you know, I was actually surprised he ran on

that. Well, after the start he had and

kind of, you know, it was, it was a pretty tough trip.

So, you know, him being a little bit inside.

Drawing the seven should help him a bit even golden glider.

Hadn't had a pretty rough trip. Even in the stretch I mean he

got blind switched and you know it was just kind of bumped

around a little bit and took a lot of dirt early that he seemed

not to like. So maybe that experience will

help him build. That.

So I don't really think that classic caused me to slam dunk

here. I think any, any of those horses

could actually turn the tables and then you have a horse like

happy boy rocket, who build? My has a really great percentage

and strike rate with horses coming out of a maiden

integrated steaks. I think he's like, 20, something

percent and he doesn't do it often.

So is I think the sample size is about 20, horses or so, maybe

even less than that you Ma. I've seen the same post else L

star actually put up. Yeah, he actually posted that.

He met twice. He did it a while ago and then

he got, I think there was another couple starters since

then but that's interesting. You know, it's not really a

movie does a lot and I was at the the Pegasus that day the

horse ran and he looked damn good doing it.

And that field that he beat was, it was pretty damn good too.

So you know I can't completely count him out at a decent price

either. The other horse that I just

wanted to mention that, I don't remember Louis, if you had this

one in there, but I'm curious about giant game as well as a

possible. Use the fact that he scratched

out of the Fountain of Youth to be here for this one at ten to

one. It was another kind of value

play for you there as a possible possible.

Include he's he's, you know, at least a horse that's one of the

A route of ground, right? It came in.

He wander at amount of 16. So when you have like the Chad

Brown Runner money supply, who stretching out from six

furlongs, you know, at least this horse has already kind of

proven one thing to us. He has to kind of step it up

again against graded Stakes company, even if nowhere in in

the Holy gold. But the fact that he finished

third behind kourtney's as well, although I don't love the

comment line hung. Hopefully, he can run a little

bit better here and maybe he's matured into his three-year-old

year, but he's I think at a price, he's a possible Corsa.

Look at his weapon. He had the bedpost fever.

The he didn't want that poster. Like now, we will just go over

to Tampa. I will say something on this

show that I've been strong about is that I think Dale, Romans is

no longer a great two-year-old three-year-old trainer.

He is 0 for his last 40 Stakes. Great is great.

And so for me, that's a sign that what I was seeing with my

eyes and just thinking about on paper sometimes you get

affirmation of what you feel because when you gamble, you

know, in messes things up, it is what it is.

But but I am, I am off of Dale Romans until he shows me that he

can win the 2013. He gets it gets bet a lot to.

It's also a lot and and they underperform a lot of great

horses, choose. Yeah.

Yeah. That's the part I struggle with

because I feel like the stock is actually pretty good.

Make sure you come Make sure you get a price you know, you don't

want to bet that horse. If you know even if he wins it

like you know anything shorter than 521 agree.

Yes, I understand. But all right Barry, really

appreciate you joining us on the show today.

Yeah, Mary jumps off. There's a main track only horse

the 13. I read is sticking around to

ride this horse in a 35,000 dollar.

Maiden special weight, get that money that says to me that

that's the single take, that's it.

Did it right? Cause if you like it, push all

in. All right, so make sure that you

follow Barry on Twitter at Urban handicapper and check out his

check out his pod. So, yeah, good to have you on

here, man. I appreciate it and hopefully

see you soon. So, absolutely.

Thank you so much. All right, man, we're gonna,

we're gonna head out to Oak Lawn for the Azzurri stakes and

course of Zuri Stakes was named after After 2002 American Horse

of the year, azeri who is a filly since is very won the

2002, American worth of year, there's been three other fillies

who have won America more secure.

And ironically, they want to back to back to back three

straight years who, who, who would those three fillies be?

I think two of them are very obvious.

Rachel Rachel. Rachel one of them who went

after the year after Rachel. This is the best feeling ever,

then yada. Yes.

And then who would oh my God how am I doing this?

Is it a baffert trainee one The Oaks last the first no okay no

it's actually got a connection to our one person we've had on

the show before. Maybe before Megan.

Oh good. Another reference.

That's right. Yeah.

Which is not how they say whatever they say.

Alright. So this is a great to I believe

at Oaklawn this and we got there.

They are. Who do we like in this one?

We'll start making. I am on the seven.

She's there's a double, she loves this track.

She's super quick, I think Brad Cox, and get it back off of

laughs, not to worry. Actual attorney really well

Fairgrounds and yeah, it's pretty much her and it's pretty

crazy to think that you might get 522 on that horse, right?

Like 30-something of back to your Peters level.

Just, yeah, I mean, lesson CC say, say I don't know.

She never wins when I better. So I'm just, I'm not, I'm not,

I'm taking somebody else over her for my topic, which means

she's gonna romp and this race. And then if you're looking for,

like an outside play, maybe you include lady mystify for Peter

who doesn't really usually ship in four spots like this.

But I think it's between The 7 and the 5 movie.

I-i've see there is a double top and it's pretty simple for me

Trader. Brad Cox always runs her March

through November. Well gives her the winner off.

Also distance to sorry. She always, she always wins her

first race. Back in March and loses her last

waiters in November two years ago, she wins the honey bee.

We're at Oaklawn runs a spinster and Keelan in November and

losses. Comes back the next year in this

race beats a horse named Lou, true ski runs the See this stuff

in November losses. And here we are.

She wins this race over to me Pauline's Pearl.

Inlay demystify. I hate to stretch out for a sec.

I don't know what we're doing here.

I'm struggling to wrap my head around why they would stretch CC

off for this. All of her work, performances

are fit to be fair. She is a grade one winner at

amount of 16. She won the apple blossom here

at Oaklawn but it's also been 37.

So I agree with you. But she does technically have

the form to say it's possible. Yeah.

So I'm assuming he's coming with us.

Yeah. So I'm like no shame.

By the way, the horses that won this race?

He's just floated flows. Crazy.

I mean she dares devops. Who won last year's are getting

a midnight. Be sooo slow mean this is this

is the Great. /. It's a big girl raised for sure.

Yep it's almost a great one just based on winners.

That's right. I think that's fair that's

actually very great and actually if you have CC and she dares the

devil in it it's a great one. Like this is a great one field,

a great. Oh yes.

Great horses in here. But then you have like you know,

the one on the inside is coming out of some of those like

Oklahoma bread races and stuff like that.

So there's definitely Some others in here that don't fit

the bill. So I think it's fair at a grade

2 but I take right. You plus, right?

That's all right. Well, we're gonna that's the

only thing we're gonna talk about it.

Oklahoma, we're going to move back to Florida to Gulfstream

Park for the last two races were going to pick the first ones,

the hurricane birdie steaks six. Now, for loans on the dirt for

Phillies a four year, olds and up.

Got a small field is six horses there.

Pretend like it's California, same.

So this is California. Megan, who do you think that is?

Actually, so fair, I think, I think this 54 Grace is a

nine-to-five for Ian Wilkes. It's gonna be my topic there.

I mean, I like the fact that again, she's kind of one of

those adjustable mayor. She's really readable, but she

certainly has no probably eating if you need.

She just beat a number of really good horses before and obviously

been in against quite a few good ones like those the one she

obviously went head-to-head this consonant Edge way and the list

goes on, but I love her in this spot.

Deceptive a distance. She's had those two races here

at Ocean Park and he just finished second in those but I

think that there's our of the way off is certainly going to be

helpful for her and she's I don't falter for those efforts

obviously the three obligatory I mean I don't I think this might

be a little too short for her. I'm similar with CC with the

stretch out. I don't know if this is the

distance that she is best at any granted, she didn't win seven

furlongs at Churchill in the eight Bells.

Back in 20, 21 and April, but I kind of prefer her her mile

races and we're going to six and a half her lungs.

And that's a big difference, especially to attract like this.

Louis. Wow this is as hard as Megan

that I have disagreed on a race in a while.

So this is a bit of a handicap race in.

Sometimes the weights the horses have to carry gives away which

horses and best for him coming in that Phillies name is the

three obligatory who broker made at Gulfstream Park before

winning the eight Bells at Churchill Downs.

I don't say last year, along with closing the year with

winning the Saluki. Also Churchill Downs made over

seven hundred thousand dollars last year.

Mot hits a 24 percent off the layoffs.

In the only worrisome stat is that he had Tyler 04:18 blessed

18. That's a very bizarre stat,

seems unbelievable. Yeah, yeah.

And I'm hoping it goes away here to me.

If anyone has upset minded, you go to the, to the rail.

I agree. I'm the one brambleberry.

Yeah. Brad who I've really come to

like actually 66 wins and 10 runs a Gulfstream Park.

Just ran a blazing minute. 16. Six and a half for a long.

A Sprint. He wins at 21% coming off a win.

That's an incredible number. For a young trainer, her best

wins come. When she runs her best runs,

excuse me, come when she breaks well, so, she breaks well, she's

going to be right there. I'm out on for Grace's until she

wins again. Her last win was July of 2020,

and so I'll go 3-1 in this race, okay?

And just stick with those two horses.

Obviously, I'm not, it's sources.

I'm not picking. So picking the food but to me, I

don't have it on my own. Yeah.

I think that horse probably going off at 12:55 night of too

kind of number and I think that's actually confirmed.

Okay. All right, we're going to move

onto the cap, T violence takes, which is one of my favorite

vacation spots by the way. Yeah, it's great for saltwater.

Fly fishing, humble, brag to everyone.

Why do we have a producer? I mean, I don't know.

Thank you, very alright. Nice relaxing place.

You know. All right, so who do you?

I'm good for basketball, talk. A little basketball will fly

fishing, talk to just sit in the next two weeks is all basketball

talks, just be ready. That's all we're gonna have it

is. But I mean, we actually got past

the next, two weeks are like very light.

I feel like country have your that's actually gonna be great.

You're literally just like I'm doing right now.

The people are watching video, just go watch my eyes, go to the

side as I walk pretending like I'm listen to what Megan saying,

so Oh, thanks, but you listen to lose.

No, not at all. All right.

So, who do we like in the Captiva Island Stakes here?

Megan. I like the three little bit.

Toby's heart and soul of every altitude one of the ayats when I

any Gap 3 over 3, this distance coming up a layup.

But that's fine. It's been in plenty of graded

stakes in six. Races before comes into this and

and pretty decent workout on March 1st.

I much prefer The sprint races that this person has been in as

compared to the longer distance races.

And also, I don't know if that rain is going to carry over into

culture Park area as well but interesting if it does force.

Yeah. Okay, Ivan.

I have not checked the weather but I would check.

But that's just what sort of work.

But I was going to say, the source actually did perform

pretty well in the yielding, terrific human.

So, it's something that we know that she can handle, but

obviously, this is a horse that everybody likes in here at the

Five, Miss J McKay who comes from off the pace.

Usually, for Chris up Clement and Tyler Gaffney own, who's

been aboard. Her a couple times before love

it. Christmas pudding at 24%

interface, prints and having an excellent, excellent meat.

And then the for is Miss are met or any Presa, who's more of a

local guide Jersey guy, but winning at 28% here at Ocean

Park. So we live through gets bored

and they just want to Stakes race with this horse.

So I think she will certainly be out there with some good speed.

But she's not going to be only one because I think the 78 have

speed possibly the six. So, maybe that makes her just a

little bit vulnerable in this book.

Mr. Robbo wow. So Megan 354.

I'm 35 to 4. So, I mean, that's a pretty

convinced that something to say. So I think there's a cool

rematch actually here between the 4 and the 5.

So miss are met, is the 46 year old and a Miss J.

McKay is the five horse won. The last two.

Those who won the last two. Britt Turf races at stakes races

at Gulfstream Park for this class of Philly's embarrassed.

So they're includes for me, the to laliberte from our caste in

the three Toby's heart as well. Like, mega mega mentioned 343 at

the at the distance, they're getting her back to what,

literally in my notes. They're getting her back to what

she does best exact. So yes, 3352 and for for me is

what I would include because I do think.

Well, L have a shot here. These are, I think it was our

guy. Mike Mills who asked?

Hey, twitch, which Each race is, do you feel the most confident

in? You know, dirt, spray dirt route

Turf Sprinter fraud. My least confident is Turf

spread for sure. So, I'm I'm growing for horses

here for that, okay. And especially the to that like

to track here, but then, of course, always hard to just

likes the distance. Is that?

That Woodlawn? Torque course is its own.

It's in a different galaxy of turquoise has.

It's just so different that, that it's on the outside.

The turns are so much wider. And so it's it's own thing.

But it doesn't mean that those Horses, Don't translate really

I'll write it down here. They're still fast, it's not

that it's just that the turns are different.

And so they also 3524 that Mike did you loved this episode all

steaks and just crushing the stakes races?

Yeah. I mean that's what I'm all

about. What I mean, I don't want to

hear us. Talk about allowance.

Optional claiming race it. Whoa whoa.

They just it's the same horses running from when I worked there

and I haven't worked there in a long time. 22, plus years.

Yeah, right. This is unbelievable.

It's great. Oh man.

Hey serious business. So as we wrap up the show, just

a quick shout-out to, if you're from Louisville, you been around

Churchill Downs at all. There's a guy that's frequently

on the back side, especially if it's Oaks and Derby Day, who had

a quite the accomplishment. And he grew up just down the

street from Churchill Downs and I'm talking about Coach Scotty

Davenport best friends with Now Stewart and to take a division

to program and when not just a conference title but go into a

conference that is notorious for upsetting brackets.

Because the conference winner always does steals a game in the

NCAA tournament. Just congrats to Scott Davenport

in the Bellman nights for winning their conference in just

the service Year. And I hope there was a whole lot

of basketball fans that were out there watching him.

And just if you're a basketball player.

Yes, you love watching the way. It's like so watching.

Yeah it's beautiful. So congrats to coach D and

there's a stupid rule, there's a stupid old favorite leniency.

Am an it figure it out. Get those guys in because they

can make a run well, and that's what they thought.

They could get me an it. I saw right before the show that

button and it the national Invitational Tournament, which

you it's the one rifle was the big one, but it's right below

the entire life, okay? It's essentially, the next 32

teams. It's it rounds out.

The top Hunter teams. Basketball got it.

I saw a tweet from Belgium and basketball right before we went

on the show. That actually, they've been told

by the NIT they are eligible. Well, they were, they were told

is what I think you might have misread it.

They were told when they made the jump, but then the

n-c-double-a bought the NIT but not the women.

I bought the mins and I teach. So, now they're saying they're

telling him that now you're not eligible, which is crap.

They should not be allowed. I mean, in the united, they

should be allowed me to play, but at least they knew, they

couldn't do that one. What if you told them they

should be, they could play in the end.

You when they made the move, let them play in the NIT.

I agree. And that's a great spot for them

because they could upset some people in that.

See, totally. Yeah, people would go to those

games at Freedom Hall to like they did for the championship

game. Yeah, 100%.

Absolutely great atmosphere. I was there Tuesday night and as

a, as a basketball, Bellman Alum, person who was, you know,

not I didn't play anything like that, but I was I was on that

you encounter seen horse-racing KK in the house for two years,

okay? Coach Valvano was there with

Coach Valvano, which V and You have heard me talk about

dropping at this point but the 70 humble brag?

So yeah, I just listen, I mean, I could not have been turned my

wife, I said 25 years ago. Oh, that Bellman would be.

I mean, they had nobody the women's games were out drawn,

the men's games, and wedding, clothes back when we were in

college. And so I was just like well, the

three what's that like 12 people to three people know it was they

would probably have liked but they wouldn't have you know 150,

right? They'd have 150 or so I mean, it

was incredible. So alright, let's get out here.

We'll hit big. What do you got?

A lot of basketball. It's all just the beginning.

Megan just I wasn't prepared. I'm just waiting for you to be

done, right? You better have been made an

incredible dinner for what. It smells like.

Yeah. Okay, I'm just trying to get off

this podcast, you better be talking beer, apoc seeds.

Next week's the first fixing to do some research, Thanks to our

guy, Barry. If you listen to the show very,

very likely already follow him. However, check them out on

Saturday. I'm excited actually for Barry

to get to do Paddock stuff because it's, um, he's a, he's a

different voice than we've had traditionally inherit a horse

racing. So I'm excited for a guy like

that to be. In fact some very go get em.

All right let's pay the tab, he knows a shit so I'm sure we're

gonna pay the cab now and get out of here.

Thanks again, this has been the horse racing has Yeah.

Horse Racing Happy Hour
