Welcome to the horse racing. Happy hour.
There it is. That was a good prank.
What did you use for that? We use a glass.
And a single barrel, cigar tube. So, there you go.
Wow, yeah. I'm like a Boy Scout but a
little more resourceful than we have JD back.
Which means there is an adult present, which is good because I
mean, I do not I'm Glenn and I mean, I should be good with
technology. I'm not so or maybe I just
choose not to be On certain occasions.
I don't know. But lots of choices being made
here. Yeah, yeah.
At least we have jd2 to help us out here.
JD we missed you. Well, I missed you guys as well,
and Megan. I technically also am a
millennial. So I'm just on the other side of
it, the very late stages of being a millennial.
I gotcha that makes sense for the early, I should say,
apparently generation. Oregon Trail.
I had no idea, but I have not died of, I have not died of
dysentery. And here, I I am Megan does not
understand that reference. We're going to keep going.
I think I played the video game look there.
Yeah, that's really old. You got it.
That was super fun. Yeah, hashtag Megan is too drunk
to wrong. I'm not I whoa, you know,
although I tell you I'm gonna tell you that pregnancy.
Brain is a lot like being drunk, like I can't think of the words
for things. Like mommy's is legit.
It takes me a while to process things.
Like my husband was trying to explain something to me the
other day. We're doing some Renovations in
the house and he was like, yeah, you have to do like this because
of follow lot and I was like, wait, what?
Like how are you not getting this?
This is the simplest thing in the world that I'm just trying
to explain to you. I don't even need your input.
I'm just letting you know what's going on.
I just think you need to stop and it's going on because I
don't get it. So yeah I guess I guess.
Is the baby is taking like, lowering my IQ.
I don't know. I'm not really sure how this
works. I'm just here.
That's a bar that we don't want to lower any further.
So baby, be nice. Easy to do this show all far.
All fall whatever. Yeah don't don't do that.
Just please ridiculous people ridiculous.
It's a it's also not to make the show like about my pregnancy but
you know most of you about how how weird like things are in
like the medical world. Right?
Like people are like, oh my God, you're pregnant, you can't do
anything, you can't do extra everything, you can't have this
medication, you can't do that and whatever.
So, that's been really fun. I've been fighting off like a
sinus infection with just like Tylenol when I have a headache,
which does nothing to help what's going on here, but it's
fine. And then yesterday, I had the
great pleasure of being woken up by a what I assume to be a
spider biting my leg. And that was really great and I
woke up in the entire thing was red.
I've been bitten by a spider before.
I mean like I'm hoping it's not like a brown recluse or
something but it did it not look like that.
Oh, went throughout the day yesterday?
Absolutely miserable, took like all Benadryl one small one and
went into what is what? I've now called.
Like a pregnancy, coma that suggests are knocked out for an
entire day. And then today I finally went to
the doctor and they were like, yeah, so we can't do anything.
Thing to help you but we can give you a tetanus shot.
So I got a tetanus shot. No, like you're probably going
to need one. Anyways, so you'll probably get
another one. Chuck, wait, man.
Which doesn't make any sense to me, but like it's fine.
It's totally fine. Everything, that sounds great.
It's funny that you mentioned that Meghan because thanks to my
social media timeline, I can tell that this I can tell you
that this This week is the three-year anniversary of me,
getting bitten by a brown recluse spider, really?
And yes, and I will stay and I will say this that there's a
certain Hilton property in King of Prussia Pennsylvania that I
will not be returning to ever again because it happened in a
hotel room and they didn't believe me.
And then I caught one in a cup and show them keep serious.
I'm making a face, which is bad for podcast, but holy bleep,
right? Wow.
Yeah, unbelievable. All right, so, programming note,
this is our last show of Triple Crowns season and will be moving
into Breeders Cup citizen starting next Friday.
Believe it or not. We're going to be doing the noon
show on ESPN Louisville locally here, sorry JD.
And so we're inviting everyone we know to come out and join us
at the track. And so if you are interested in
such a thing, We'll be on noon to three radio, rail 322.
Come on out. All of our sponsors will be
hanging out. So if you want to beat those
folks, as well, you havin a lot of fun.
We're going to have to set up, like a figure out the wind for
the, for the cigar section away from Megan enough that, like,
she could be there those sorts of things.
But noon to 3:00 next Friday at Churchill Downs, seven bucks to
get in. Just come on up, find us, and we
will have a bunch of giveaways and different stuff like that to
get off Breeders Cup season. And so I wanted to express our
very heartfelt, thanks to the guys at sea Will Ferrell as this
is our last time with them as our title sponsor this year.
And so they are going to be hanging out with us next weekend
though. So with some with some further
news and so all that is really great but moving on to Breeders
Cup sisters and I like it, you're going to have to get one
of those guys that does the like really into track bias, you
know? They're like the width, the
headwind was. Yeah, right over here.
In the three lane. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's there's some weird handicapping as a weird but to
each their own I guess, whatever.
Obviously you don't handicap much at wind buying Meghan
because that's what are you guys are you
Handicapping terrible enough. As it is Megan.
Imagine if I started believing in that sort of stuff, imagine
if that's what brought it to the next level, though.
Like, you all of a sudden, you're doing really weird
preferences. We are missing the, I guess the,
the can I see like the lowest the baritone of the group right
here? Would that be correct in the Big
Fudge? I mean, he just has one of those
like booming low voices that we haven't heard for a while.
We might Said, he went away to Italy and I'm super jealous of
that. And so, we are anxiously
awaiting, his his return here, but we're the Glorious return of
Big Fudge at church. It's almost yea, reminder, to
another programming thing. We're gonna be at the Indiana
Derby the weekend after man. So there's a lot of stuff going.
Fudges anniversary. It is.
It is the anniversary of the creation of Big Fudge.
And so we are going to celebrate in true, big frogs.
Budget. But oh my gosh, big budge.
No Big Fudge fashion and make sure that we have something
about doing a chocolate giveaway up there.
Okay, it'll actually Annapolis and I don't think ya know
imagine Big Fudge was running though on that day that would be
we should definitely claim that horse but inside To clean.
Big clutch. All right, let's talk about some
racing. We had quite a few races that we
covered last week. Louis, and I did, which is,
we're really good at doing like an hour and a half Audio Only
shows. No adults present.
Let's talk about the hot rod Charlie race or so many thought
it was. Who did not did not get the job
done there. That's big fudge is guy and it's
because I keep It wasn't on probably that he didn't win your
boy had my control though. I mean, if you listen to the
show, people, me and about half of the handicappers in the
world, had mind control on Saturday.
It's so now I just felt like a bounce rate for your hot rod.
Charlie, just didn't have it down the stretch.
I do think we have the stretch, call for this one.
If JD can go to, they reach the top of the stretch.
It here comes hot rod. Charlie to the outside of mine
control, who is a ton Nations Photo the inside shoulder to
shoulder here with a final, Furlong left to go and now hot
rod Charlie. Get out mind control will not
give in mind control comes back hot rod, Charlie my control HED
and had nose and nose. My control Hot Rod, Charlie
photo finish photo finish in the Salvatore mile to Great.
One winners, mind control and hot rod Charlie, it's a photo in
one minute. Thirty five point seven, nine
seconds. I love, I love the placement of
the microphones of Monmouth because you can hear the crowd
reacting to that photo finish. It's perfect because it looked
like hot rod, Charlie had overtaken him at the Furlong
pole and that thing was done and then he even squeezes them a
little bit toward the rail in my controls like oh right, I know
how to win races and just came back.
I was on. I mean hot rod.
Charlie hung like a cheap suit. That's just, it just did.
He just came up and he was like, Nah, I'm good.
And maybe that was the layoffs, or the balance, or whatever.
I mean, he still ran a good race, right?
But yeah, hey, yeah, he just can't get it done.
I mean, Those runs a lot of his best to races is best to win.
They should Savor the Louisiana Derby, and the Pennsylvania
Derby where he won by two lengths.
Hot round Charlie. Everything else has been either.
He runs out of real estate or it's like by a nose or you know,
right there. So he definitely is, it's not a,
you know, a horse. That I guess Wednesday, open
links but to be fair, neither is mine.
Control mine controls one by like a head, almost every time
that's just his game. I think he likes that
Competitive Edge of the head-to-head thing in the
stretch. JD would you think?
Yeah, I think this was definitely a case of he wanted
to run next to a friend for as long as humanly possible and and
just hung at the hung at the wire, there it was it was a
great dingdong battle down the stretch and look forward to see.
What's next for both of those horses?
Because I'm not really sure at this stage.
I know somebody had a lot of people had treated actually,
something about Hotrod truck or not.
He wrote a mind-control like winning a graded Stakes or a
grade One race like every year or something like that.
I don't know. It's just he's definitely a
horse, that's done. Some serious running and has
been in some good spots. So kudos to the connections for
keeping him going for as long as they have?
How about church? Hold Downs in the Monomoy girl.
I had wrote in my notes before when we talked about it, that
would be like a Carousel. And that society would win this
at, they would just go around and it would not change.
But let's see how it actually played out.
Here, comes Miss Yearwood. Launching a bid now and miss
your wood comes up alongside of society and they are
shoulder-to-shoulder at the top of the stretch Society down
inside Miss Yearwood. Alongside and they head for the
final Furlong together societies.
The end in tight, miss your Woods desperately, trying to get
by tap dancing. Lady furred.
Final sixteenth Society digs down deep and turns back Miss
Yearwood Society. Grabs the upper hand blades and
win, Man, that gun Runner? He makes some good horses.
I would say the only criticism of this race is it was a little
slow, right? You know, so you got 24 and 24
and for forty nine and a half and then I think the Mi was
almost 138 something like that. 139, we watch my control, Hot
Rod, Charlie one of the 135 range.
I get it. She's 3.
She's like, Hereford race ever. But I'm hoping that we just saw
her kind of coming out party in that we see her at Saratoga,
this summer, in society, I said last week with you Megan that my
hope for the race was That she would jump up and win this race
because it would inject another three year old Filly into this
already. Very good crop, a three-year-old
Phillies and we might have gotten that.
Actually she met, you know, it was a, it was enough to win.
I thought the ride Tyler gave her was really fair, really good
and so I'm hopeful that, we'll see her either, maybe not in the
CCA Oaks but certainly in some of those later races in
Saratoga. Well, I was going to say, you
know, certainly I agree with you.
The ride by Tyler, he's just, he has scratch the nests on a
horse, you know, you saw him there.
He's perfectly balanced, just showing her, the stick using it
when he needs to whatever, but I don't care about the time for
society. I mean if you're a front running
horse, that's the way to do it. Why not walk the dogs if you
can? You know, that's like saying you
need to work a bullet. Every time I think it's the
perfect way to win a race like that.
You don't need to set a track record coming back.
Second off of layoffs. Like you can stay in front and
go as low as you possibly can and still win, why not?
That's how I would win a race if I was running it.
Firestone class. I think I did really was, was
different, was that there? And that was definitely a
stretch Drive. We're at the eighth pole, it
looked like Monsieur would might go by and then by the time the
16th pole, you're like, nope. Not gonna happen though.
Transported much too classy. So that's enter cat stage left.
Sorry, I mean for anybody that doesn't watch what the author of
just say would be a Thursday at all.
Here you really miss out. Out the shenanigans, I guess we
can say of the horse race. Yeah, I have a great.
I have a great cloud of smoke. In front of me.
Megan has a great kind of front of her.
It's just, it is what it is. A great JD has a beautiful
background lady has a great beard.
Let's go. That's right.
There you go, but whatever. It's fine.
I mean, look at me today. I'm like in my white tank top
and my baseball trucker hat with the dad dance.
Your converted, it's over. It's done for you.
It's over and we're way past. It was different, by the way.
I texted your husband, on Father's Day.
I said, happy first Father's Day.
And instead of so generally, he texts me, one-word responses on
text. That, that is how he operates
with me, I don't know. Okay, now, I got punctuation.
I got, thank you. Very Which I'm very excited.
I was like, who is answering for his phone, and what is this?
And so, no. It's it was really the cat
Louis. It was like that.
Obviously, obviously, I'm very creative with my cat names for
those that don't know. I refuse to get cats for the
longest time, and then I did, and now I'm like, full-blown cat
lady, but I named them cat. And this one is gray because
he's great and the other ones kit.
So, Definitely need some name. Suggestions, for any rate, could
get scared with the child's going to be at that verse,
right? We should person and evening
human, I don't know. That's a terrible idea.
Yeah. Okay as long as they spell it.
The Pegasus the Haskell prep race was also a mom.
It's a ton of great races. I thought we talked about it on
the show, certainly they're a good sequence there.
We saw Homebrew with a little bit of a coming out party.
JD, Let's uh, let's go to the replay Homebrew is tipped off
the rail and here comes home. Brew, finally gets some Running
Room and Homebrew is ready to pounce.
Three wide coming after the leaders.
Is there? Well, clear Homebrew has taken
the lead. Homebrew in front to the top of
the stretch now, Sprints for a home and look at home.
Brew go. Electability battles on here
with cyber Viking. Gets far back to the Rest Home.
Brew is just riding away. Homebrew is strutting his stuff.
Down the stretch in the TV. G.com.
Pegasus takes Homebrew. Wins this one.
Emphatically Homebrew. Yeah, we talked about.
Yeah. Go ahead, man, fabulous race.
I mean, even just the way for Andrew gave a great ride on that
one, but the way he kind of cut the corner, you know, and then
just exploded. As soon as he changed over to
that fresh Legacy change leads, I thought it was a excellent
race for him. You know.
This is one that we kind of were like well what happened in the
was it the Smarty Jones? I Think We're a flop then they
gave him a little bit of a break they brought him back second off
the layoffs here you know. Now he's two in a row.
I think he's definitely A solid Contender for some of those
classic races that will will come up this year.
I think, certainly in the Haskell you have to include them
in your top three or four, no matter who ships, right?
I mean, he absolutely both both look the part and looks very
comfortable on the track. I agree with you Megan.
I think that there's something cooking here we saw him.
We saw Society, the last weekend.
What's a while those three year olds, just take a little bit
longer to develop and this appears to be one of those and
yeah, he looked as good as you're possibly going to look in
that in that company. Well, and they certainly they
were trying to be On the as you do try to do, right?
If you've got a three-year-old, I can go ride around on the
Derby trail and I tried the Smarty Jones.
Obviously, there was an issue there, so they did right by the
horse. And and that's ok, so, I don't
even know if it's a matter of just like developing late but
just he needed the time off. They brought it back.
They brought him back in April. They're like this is you know
there's no way we're going to the derby or whatever.
So let's just look at the other races.
So I mean you see for like I would have loved to seen him in
the Preakness, you know, something like that, right?
Skip. And then And those types of
races. But yeah, it'll be interesting,
you know, at the mildest 16th distance for the horse like
this, who's only ever gone, a mile and a half before and some
of his best races have been in a mile.
You get that kind of Versatility I think between.
Yeah I mean he Street sense and tap it on the bottom side of the
dam side, you can certainly think that this horse might go
longer but also maybe this is one that you see as a mile
Contender to Cheney. Would you think, I still think
this horse has a lot of room for growth.
I'm still seeing a lot of greenness in the running style
and, you know that Is race number six.
And, you know, I think there was a lot of explosion on the turn.
There wasn't a lot of control of that explosion on the turn, the
horse took a bad step and and almost fell over as part of that
explosion. And then also, feared sharply in
and at one point during the stretch run.
So, I think there's a lot of room for growth there as well.
So, it was a dominating performance, One Source, got
room and got outside of the other horses.
I mean that that also is may be a concern for me that this horse
Once a clean trip and does not like to be in the crowd but
other than that I mean there's nothing you can follow them
really nitpicking at this stage with that room with that run.
Yeah, no for sure. And but, I mean it's certainly
something to consider when you're talking about how
competitive some of these races will be leading up into later in
the summer. And as we, as we mentioned, into
Breeders Cup, Susan, Lewis, what do you what are you drinking
tonight? How do I take a swig?
Oh just dodge. I just old Forester. 100 my
After last year hanging out brown-forman.
This was my favorite of the I can afford them to do the weekly
show whiskeys. So I don't know, old photo.
That was a one that everybody had liked.
They really stepped up for us last year to, they were the ones
that gave us the old foe, 150 bottle, and everything else.
And so we ended up with after the after doing the prohibition
series. They gifted us something in the
range of two thousand dollars worth of gift of whiskey last
year or so, your, I'm still buying their stuff, I'll put it
that way. But yeah, the old photo Low 20s
on the price for a fifth. And so, yeah, I just I find it
to be really, really good whiskey.
And, and the cigar, what's the cigar of choice from single bear
scars. Yeah.
So, this is their Connecticut wrapper.
This is actually the barrel. They always mark it on here is
from Peerless, which is in downtown Louisville, as well.
So gladly the yeah, they buy these barrels from different
places. And so this is a Peerless barrel
with a Connecticut wrapper. And so it's a little bit
lighter. This would not be one that Big
Fudge would like, but I enjoy and so Especially good for a
90-degree day in the backyard. And so it's by the way,
apparently, because I've got a ton of messages about this, it
sounds like I'm doing the show in an Aviary and I have to tell
you, it's actually I'm doing a show in an Aviary.
There are a ton of birds. Yes, my backyard is very green,
it's very verdant. It is the opposite of JD's
backyard and so you know we have maple trees and what can I see
from here? We have that's a bald cypress
and then over there, smoke trees in the back.
We do have a mango Over there. That's right.
And so it's just a, the birds back here are very, very happy.
They enjoy our backyard and so it is what it is.
Yeah. Yardley aren't you in the most
severe drought in Arizona history?
Yeah but I have a nice big yard. Okay.
I just check it out because I feel like it is no that's more
of a my daughter likes to go and play in the sprinkler sort of
played it. The sprinkler is undefeated, it
really is. It's just undefeated generation
to generation. It never gets old.
It is undefeated for kids man it's the best.
Gotta love it. Yeah.
Well at least I'm not doing it outside because any time I've
had to take the conference call in the past, the floors here in
the house I have to go outside and do it which one it's been
really hot so don't love that. But do I have to preface the
call with? I'm so sorry.
If you hear the sound of a rooster or is running or Any
other format gold. Head-butting me in my own leg
gastro hundred percent. My office is currently outside.
It's called, so, please excuse the noise.
So maybe I'll have to switch places.
Do at some point, though, you can go back inside.
I'll go outside. What I, what I what I, you know,
bring this baby into the world sometime after that, I'll have a
single. Something Farrell cigar outside.
Oh, I'm gonna be great. It is funny, it did make me
giggle. I was thinking about it today.
You know, them hanging out with us.
All spring and how you just couldn't have won.
It was it was like perf like perfect timing for you not to be
able to enjoy that. Yeah it was great.
It's just right. I can't enjoy the single barrel
scars. My company is doing some work
for a Bourbon Festival and so I'm just at one point they did a
barbecue day and I can't really have that either.
So yeah, it's this is no fun. Hi, I remember we met back in
like 22 years, like twenty six months ago, something like that
and back then you would have a glass of wine at like 2:00 in
the afternoon. In California, doing the show on
a on a Thursday and that Megan would just shoot just cash out
the rest of the day. She just be all the beach like,
oh, wind up. I was part of the best yet loser
and you're good shells. Oh yeah.
So anyways lets me run. It is about two years ago so
hopefully I can save up for my for my binging that I'll do
after I'm not pregnant anymore but some of the races this
weekend that are happening, we have a variety we're going to be
talking Churchill Downs, thistledown thistledown.
I always want to put an X there. There is not one Belmonts and a
surprise track that we have thrown into the mix and JD we're
doing something. Even today.
What are we doing? Yes.
So my Sacramento Kings with the for selection, the NBA draft
just shows Kiki Murray from Iowa.
I don't know what's happening. Yes.
So we can be a draft is happening.
So figured this week, we would actually go through Race by race
and we'll alternate to make it fair will spread the love
around, but in lieu of a top pick where we all pick the same
horse, you're going to have your first selection.
If you're up first and you get to pick a horse, to win the
race, and that horse is off the board.
And whoever goes next, with their analysis has to pick a
different horse to win the race. So I'm Legit, I'm Legit not
happy about Keegan Marie, like I, I can't, I just okay.
So for people that don't know, I do, I do local Sports Talk Radio
here in Louisville with a man named Dan Issel.
Who's the NBA Hall of Fame, the Naismith Hall of Fame and we've
been talking and be a draft all week.
And I've been talking about all week by Pistons at five getting
Keegan Murray. Now, they get Jay and I be here
if they do that, not going to be mad.
I think he's the best point guard in the class, probably,
the highest upside, but I'm just, I'm out of my mind.
People can merge the best score in the draft is not closed.
Its not close. Not close.
And the Sacramento Kings suck. The worst of the Pistons which
is hard to do. They suck it.
Suck can Rudolph. They suck.
And I just, I can't, I can't, I can't I can't I just can't.
I can't just do something else. Megan.
He just yeah I just yeah right now is essentially what Louis is
doing. Is also on Wednesdays, we wear
pink, it's just you're not watching the stream.
I mean, again you're missing out the cat has left us but Louis is
pouting in the chair. So we're a Spotify that end of
his rope because he is on The Wire Headphones and they won't
reach. I'm a Daddy.
And I'm gonna wear the wired headphones until they're gonna
bury me. In these things, you understand
me and I just Keegan Murray. I do segment English so.
Okay. So we're gonna I feel like JD
should run this so we're just well I can I can I can run this
Megan. Yeah, yeah.
So Churchill Downs is where we're going to go first.
Trace 9 is the great three Chicago.
Steaks I wonder where this race used to be run.
It's for four year, olds and up going Belmont.
This is incorrect apologize. This does for Phillies and
mayor's 4 and up seven furlongs on the dirt.
I apologize that I rarely make mistakes on the graphics and
this is this is a case here, but we do have seven horses in this
field. And I think because he is on
tilt. We're going to let Lily go
second Megan, you have the first date in this race.
Amazing. I the best part about this since
I'm not picking the favorite will be, if this was going to be
Louise topic that will make it, I mean, chefs kiss, truly, but I
don't know where you live at but you know, Reckless like my
attack, change the gate code hurry.
Alright, I am going to Go. This is a really interesting
race because you have yes, Churchill Downs specialist.
And then you have a lot of horses that don't necessarily
love going, seven furlongs. And so that I thought was pretty
interesting because you get a lot of the six, six and a half
and while I know that might not matter to some, its I thought a
really competitive group of horses.
I think you can look at it and say, you might single sconce and
maybe that's your favorite horse.
Mitchell Merle gets them out, which is interesting because
You've never ridden this horse before, obviously joxer out of
town because of the other races going on like the Ohio jury
which we'll talk about later and not that Mitchell's not a good
Rider at all. The only ones about 12 percent
though Tyler's out of town and I feel like sponsons one of those
horses that you really have to move at the right time for her.
Especially if you look at some of the margins in which she's
won her races in the past couple of years of races.
So I either one, throw up, throw up.
Needless murchman right now she's going in on Mitchell.
Merle who was a terrific writer so just throw no, I refuse.
It's just that it's something to keep in mind.
All right, so that being said, I'm actually gonna go with for
Grace's as my top pick, because she loves this distance.
She is has won it four times out of nine races.
She's got three very good. Second place efforts towards her
down. She's 245 here, a couple days S
as well. I am just totally Crossing off
the grade one Madison from many of those Is that ran in that
race because I thought it was a bit bizarre.
It was muddy track that day, a long shot one, you know, it was
such a competitive field, so I am going to excuse that and then
the race before for her, she ran up against the monster of
obligatory. And so I know she's left a lot
to be desired in summer races. But I really love the seven
furlongs for her. And I'm hoping that she'll was
that, I would say maybe a little bit of class relief right from
the grade one last time. To this spot.
I think she not only provides value but she she seems to check
a lot of boxes for this. Where is there some horses in
here that are still really good. But maybe this isn't like the
race for them. Don't mind us.
So Jane IV does go to my Pistons.
I'm in a little better mood. We haven't done this Megan in a
little bit. This is officially the grade 3
Chicago. How do you grade this race?
Because this is a great town to to lure a moment.
Yeah, I think this is a great tool for sure.
Okay, cool. Yeah, I agree with for Grace's
is a 2-1 in a race. That's a, that's a great to
innovate and so. Okay.
Wow. So I get, I get my pick here.
I love by Ernest. I mean, I'm happy.
I mean, I love by Earnest in the spot but I'll take sconce in
just because I get, I get the favor in the second spot.
I'll go. Wisconsin, back-to-back wins
Winning Colors. First off the layoff of a, a
serious serious layoff of over six months second off.
The layoff is a, is a nice hit for Greg.
Foley smaller, Barn, 122 Runners this year, but hitting it 17%.
I'll Trust Mitchell. Moral actually think he's an
underrated Rider, I like him a lot in longer sequences, when I
play them at Churchill Downs. I actually trust him as a jockey
actually hitting at 16% out. Out like for the year and 418
runs and so scottson. I like because she's going to be
pressing and then overtake that was the one is so reliant on
heavy speed at the beginning. This is a surprisingly, this is
a race devoid of huge early speed, if that makes sense.
I don't think it's one that's going to fall apart.
You'll have lady rocket out front.
It'll be interesting to see what Kenny Baker does.
For example, well, that and Calypso will probably be
speaking to. She does her best friend I
think. Yeah, maybe I do.
At Lone Star. And so, you know, we'll see but
I You know, so I'll take the paper then if I get scottson in
the second spot I will be well that and when she was standing
you know as on the front end basically to so it's basically a
front in the LaBrea which is a great warrior race as well.
Louis. So that was a little needless
disbursement on Calypso there but here's it we here's what's
interesting about this. Yeah.
But if I hadn't because brilliant cut in living my best
life of come back to run, huge freaking races and I guarantee
on this show We would have definitely called that a grade
one. I'm get out of here.
Go ahead. I am super salty the rest of the
night by the way. Katie good.
So if you have bad cakes, I'm gonna attack.
The bad takes just a heads up. It's okay.
So maybe this is a bad take, but if I had my first choice, I
would have also taken for Grace's.
Now, I'm kind of in a, in a bit of a quandary.
And so I'm gonna go with the unknown here and talk about
pennybaker a little bit because nice I like that.
You look at you know, good dolphin.
This is a Kentucky bred and You would say there's a lot of dirt
in this pedigree. So what do they do?
They try five races on the turf in France and then six races on
the turf from France and then they move to synthetic during a
time. When normally you would actually
want to be on Turf like the summer, still in France and the
horse has not lost since and that includes a win on the dirt
at Laurel and the mile races at Laurel, which I will say in mile
race at Laurel ends up seeming A7 for a long race and most
other tracks. So this horror that was
confidently, ridden on that day and you know, one for fun, 1 by
6 and 3/4 was really geared down late, it's in the, it's in the
comment, if you watch the video, it's there.
I think this horse could be a late four-year-old Superstar
Philly because they have her going in the direction.
She needs to go. Why they kept trying the turf
over and over and trying distance on the turf with this
horse. Remains to be seen, But the
pedigree said dirt would work Michael's didn't get the got
this horse. James Graham will be a board on
Saturday, but I will take pennybaker.
So lady rocket is probably going to go on the front end and not
quit and world loose. That's that's basically what
hahaha. But I just think she's like
shown a lot and if you do cross off that's like we talked about
last time she caught search results, Royal Flags.
Good horse ride. He was really tough multitrack,
fine. You get to the one.
Turn mile at Aqueduct back in December, where she won by nine
lengths. And then she's running out of
really good 74. A long races and she's run while
you're at Churchill Downs to. So I agree with you.
It seems like she's kind of one, you know.
It's weird to say like just just hitting her best ride as a
five-year-old, but it's true. She started off a bit of time.
You should never have any races in in 2020.
They started our late there and then they had a couple of races
in 2021 and just like, really allowed her to climb up the
class ladder. And now this year in her
five-year-old year is, when she's kind of making a name for
herself, which is fascinating. So it'll be really interesting
to see what has especially like JD said.
She's gonna be she's gonna be out there in front though.
As far as the lady Rockets likes to run in New York, she does not
like to run and Kentucky, she will not hit the board.
That's why she's one at Churchill before and she's
finished a good and an optional cleaner high five.
She's not gonna be possible claimer high five for I hiked my
folks for optional claims in a great.
It agreed to. Yeah, here we go.
Yeah, this is I'm soldiers bleep.
Let's keep going. Uh-huh.
Okay that's fine. Why are the Kings, okay?
So that brings us to Only One race right there were thrown at
Churchill. That means we're going to pull
this little down. This will down.
So it should be an S there. It's like, Kroger and Kroger's.
Right. All right, our first race at
thistledown will be the Cleveland Gold Cup which is
three-year-old, registered, Ohio, full.
So this is not necessarily Ohio breads.
They are Ohio foals. One, mile and 18 which is
missing an H. I'm Just pointing out all the
mistakes of my Graphics today. For those that are not watching
on the video feed. We've got a field of eight and a
very even Morning, Line Country Club Bobby a very lukewarm,
three, two, one, favorite. And Louis, it will be your turn
to go first here in the Cleveland Gold Cup.
You know. JD does the graphics a bit like
the the Sacramento Kings usually draft.
And so I'm disappointed that they're not doing it that way
tonight. Talking at Murray's.
So good. So I if I get to go first here,
I'll just take country, I'll take country, go Bobby, then if
I get that because I think brought us a bitch is He's is
poised to win a couple of the races here and so stretch out
first time last out in that in the Green carpet down in
Cincinnati and so I'm going to trust that that form is there
again. And so I will take a country
called Bobby with the first pick in the Gold Cup.
And I think the other big trainer that you have to talk
about when you're talking with thistledown is you've got to go
the Tim ham and I'm going to take Tim Hamza Runner here.
Tantrum, tantrum is possibility to close and see, this is why
this is fun tantrum in the first time routing last year in the
two-year-old. Best of Ohio, juvenile actually
bested Rumble strip or on that day has not done as well in the
Try and them going a mile, a 16th in the best of all have a
green carpet, which is a Turf race.
They got washed off the turf, although it had Notre forces in
it. So it was a very interesting
race back in the beginning of this month but tantrum.
And also, I mean, you know, I rad on and Ohio.
Ohio bread is on a closer arouse going to put on a clinic.
Is what's gonna happen? I think.
All right. Mega night.
I think you're a little upset at my pic so you're picking last
year. The problem is that I only put
two horses and e-cigs followed by the seven, which mean you
should take the, for start stuntman, who is going Sprinter
route and Robert goren, go 70% Sprinter out.
I'm just saying, what is last two races?
All the Bissell Downs? Nice little horse there.
You should take that one. It's on a daredevil know, it's
weird. I'm I'm going to take the
silence, the one, take silence the other.
Tim ham horse in here because the Soros has experienced
routing. So for the opposite, opposite
reason, I guess this is like my show better rightly, but let's
let's let's show bet you can. You can start a nice show partly
in that race - yeah, exactly. I'm going to show parlay my way
through the pick for graduate. Or is a $1 for.
So pretty exciting. And the closest.
That's where all that crack. That's where all that tractors
playing. The dollar.
Yeah, well said, a boy others. Let's go.
All right. I'm in a better.
What? I was trying to get to.
Let's keep going. Let's keep going.
Yeah, because I kept talking. Yeah, that's it.
All right. All right, race.
The next nine is the race 9. The George Lewis Memorial
steaks. Going a mile and a sixteenth.
Again, this is 43 and up registered, Ohio foals, and
we've got actually two pages of horses here for me to choose
from. And these are there's no also
eligibles here. All 13 will go if they are able
and I am going to go with the 12, Well solution, this horse
second time here in 2022, ran a Sprint, last timeout gets back
to what this horse does best. I mean, this is a seven year old
gelding that has won 13 times. In 45 starts has hit the board
33 times in those forty. Five starts and heads, did not
have a great end to the 2021 campaign and will say, you know,
basically actually I should say, the whole campaign did not win
in. One, but mobile solution will
change that and will the 12 force therefore 21 on the
morning line and we'll win this race to get the first win.
Since December of 2020, we're going back around the horn to
Megan Well I would have picked the 12 first but since I cannot
I am going to go to the for first song for Timothy hand and
I rather teach Junior if I couldn't get that pair in the
last race might as well take them now just 141 at the
distance here and it's certainly a horse that's going back to who
routing that worked out really. Well, the last time they did it
in August of last year, I felt era since then.
They've kept the horse sprinting, but it certainly does
seem to be one that has a good bit of speed regardless.
Of the distance of the race. Sometimes you see horses that,
you know, might be sprinters when they're going five, six,
furlongs, whatever, and then they'll sit off the pace a
little bit more when they're stretching out to route.
But this is a horse who was on the front end the entire time
that might have just been because of the off track or
whatever the setup of the race but something to consider as far
as Horses speed goes and I wouldn't necessarily say that he
is a need the lead type, he's come from way off of it before.
He's Talked a little bit. He's led the field before and I
like horses like that when they're doing something that
they don't normally do, which is this for stretching out again,
as obviously he is in experience at that because I think you are
not locked into your not pigeon-holed into one particular
running style and so versus like that.
I feel like they're really beatable for this or as I think
he doesn't solve a lot of favorites by being by being
versatile. Awesome.
So I get a last year's winner in the third spot is name is
authentic Cowtown. The 13 here who is second up
this year. Got a good six Furlong
freshening in May nearly winning stretching back out, seems like
a good spot if you can return to that form I think that he should
be able to win here. So I will take last year's
winner whose get to stretch, getting to stretch back out
after a freshening here in the third spot, the 13th, I would
have taken big truck. Second.
I would have taken the for third.
I Left mobile, whatever out of my handicapping altogether.
Unlike the Sacramento Kings, who took kick in Mario before we get
it? Well I figure I figure we would
at least get a break on gas if mobile solution wins that Joe
pulled up drinking that's true. Actually I guess I'll I'm given
Shady actually doesn't put liquid into his body That's what
he lives in Arizona because he doesn't require.
He doesn't require water. It's just a thing.
He. Oh, that's right.
He just forgot about. That is Pepsi.
Okay. You know, the answer to that
question Megan is no a resilient.
No, I'll take one race time. And is the lady, Jacqueline
Stakes, Phillies amaris 3 and up going 1 and 18 miles on the
dirt. And we've got fuel field of 10
here. Army wife is the three, two, one
morning, line favorite Mike maker with Tyler Gaffney own
aboard. Maracuja for Rob actress with
Kendra Carmouche up is the 421, second choice and I'm having to
go back through the the order and Megan.
You magically somehow have the first selection in this race.
Who are you going to pick? Look at that.
Now I will say that I had a very hard time, finding a quote
single in all of the races that we were talking about here today
but my Green Sheet, pinky cookies up, take a week, it was
sick Army Wife. I do think that this is the
horse, probably the best chance in here.
Now, that being said, this is a competitive field, I think you
can make a case for Army Wife. For Crazy Beautiful for,
possibly maracuja, who technically is a grade one,
winner at Saratoga. And maybe even the three horse
who comes in here, is kind of a little bit of an unknown
compared to those that have had a lot of good graded Stakes
experience, but but I think Army Wife Justin, what she has done
and winning a lot of those grade to grade 3 races.
Granted, it's been, you know, she won the black-eyed Susan at
Pimlico. She won the Iowa Oak.
So I don't know how much you put into that, but she Seems like a
horse that they've got figured out a little bit.
She obviously had some issues because she had to take some
time off and and didn't run consecutively in the end of
2021. And obviously, she started late
in 2022. She made her your season debut
here in June. I'm okay with that third place
finish. I think second off the layoff is
probably going to be better for her and in fact Mike maker wins
at 24% with that angle. Love Mike maker and Tyler
Gaffney on teaming up together, they went at 20%.
So Yeah, I'm going to take Army wife as my Piggies up picking a
week. Louie.
We're next. I like that.
So, this isn't it? This is a really cool race.
I think the top three here between Crazy, Beautiful.
Every wife and maracuja is a really cool race and it's an
interesting spot for trying to rob a interest to pick for
maracuja, who is one of the toughest Phillies to figure out,
right. She wins The Oaks like Megan
mentioned and she's like, I guess she's a grade one winner
because she shows up that day, right?
And you know, she comes back in an optional claimer and wins.
So I'll take maracuja with the S.
The second choice here because I'll Trust is The good off the
layoffs at 25%. I think she's primed here so
I'll take the nine. Maracuja Also, all right actress
and I know this because I asked his wife, sorry, he's name is
not that before. And I said, how do you say your
name? Because I can't say, I don't
know how to say it correctly. And she says actress like
Patrick. That's what I tell everybody.
So dangerous. That's really good.
I like calories camera moves every time he like Guys away
because I'm an old man. Yeah, he just, he just, it was,
that was really good. All right, who's the third pick?
I'm gonna pick you. Forget sometimes of you that not
everybody is watching this and it's just movies like that was
really good. That was really good.
Like I don't know what's going on.
More easily find us. You can is that look you get to
look at me. It should be at ease for
everybody every week. I will preface this by saying
that. I know this horse has only won
one lifetime race. But take charge Lauren is going
to be in front here. They're going to have to chase
down, Shake charge. Lawrence, you guys took
obviously my top two Selections in this race take charge Lauren
will be in the lead for the vast majority of this race.
I think malice might get a scent from the outside as well.
Louis, but I do think take-charge Lauren has a chance
to wire this field and will at least be out there for the first
mile. I like that old buddy.
Picked Crazy. Beautiful.
Yeah, I like her a lot, but I man I thought about because I
did traditionally hand handicapping for this show and
then we decided to do the draft format which is great man.
She was right there for me, Raphael right now, Rafael per
day her autos on this horse and he's unconscious right now.
He is riding like a madman just rating, really well.
If he needs to, he's closing really well.
If he needs to, he's really great right now and so trust him
a lot. So that's a like that.
Pick a lot for it there. One thing I will say about crazy
beautiful, though is a sixth place.
Finish getting two percent of the purse.
Will be enough to make Crazy Beautiful a millionaire, huh?
Just got to finish in the top six as a four-year-old.
Yeah, she's awesome. Yeah, but none of us are better.
All right now, that brings us another second.
Yeah. That brings us to the main event
at this will down, which is going to be the grade 3, Ohio
Derby three-year-olds, going 10, 18 miles, and we've got a field
of eight. Some very familiar names in
here. Tawny Port, Y tu Barrio with you
railroad classic Causeway and some other horses Louis
magically. You have the first selection in
this pic where and this pic where you going, I appreciate
that. You two have pics here and that
we're doing this version of the show.
But when you have a man Bond chest hair combination, like,
you have with Savage, Joseph Junior, and you bring that to
Cleveland the people of Cleveland are not ready.
They're not ready, they are it. And I want everyone in Cleveland
to know that they need to make their way to the track this
weekend to see the beauty of Barbados in your town, when
white a Barrio stalks this field.
Second third position. It's around that second turn and
Tyler says, Hey Big Boy, it's time to go and why the Barrio
says oh is this like the Florida Derby?
A grade one. Is this like the holy bowl?
A grade 3 and Tyler says yeah. Big boy.
It's time to go. He says that's awesome.
And he wins by three lights. That's what that's what I'm
talking about. And then you get to the Winner's
Circle and there's just a glistening South Florida.
Saffy Joseph Junior there. On Saturday, first pick thumbs
up of the week. Green Sheet racing.
The 5 Y tu barrio in the Ohio Derby.
Come get some Okay, it is. What about that is?
Now other working roll, if you're following along with the
show Don't know who he's replacing, but we're going fly
to Paris. Oh, is he the new king
Guillermo? Is that who he is now?
South Florida? Well, maybe like reference.
Let's go. That's a lot of drinking iPod.
Yep. I'm gonna go with Tawny Port,
nice and and I think really, you know, I read is going to be in a
position to do everything. Louis just said, it's a bird.
The trip is exactly the trip that Tawny ports going to get
and Tiny ports. Going to be Y, tu, Barrio by two
lengths. Megan.
Okay, no pressure. So I had Tawny port on top
followed by white a Barrio. So I guess we'll go to my third
choice which This is a difficult part because I don't even like
classic cause I say I just but it was either him or the four
horse ethereal Road who I truly in my heart of hearts feel like
at the railroad is a Miler, just in the way that he's built, but
whatever. But classic all is, like, making
the change to Kenny McPeak was previously trained by Brian
Lynch. Shockingly first time with the
trainer came AP courses. Win at 0% 0/4 20 at that angle
which I thought was fascinating. Yeah, it's not what he does.
He doesn't claim horses in the running back.
That's it. Yeah, I know, usually it's not
his thing, he doesn't decide horses have advised that sales
and they even said, classic either, like we're gonna try The
Derby. But like, that was never gonna
be what they were going to win here.
And of course, I was never gonna win the Derby and that's fine
and he steadied and he was slow and whatever dumpster fire that
it was. And so I think I'm interested to
see Brian and as a board him, I'm interested to see him in
Kenny's barn and I don't think he's a better horse than the two
that you guys. Shouldn't.
But if you're looking for a show better or try active, really
interesting play especially with the trainer change and the way
they've been working at Churchill Downs, prepping for
this race and it's possible. He's going to float up for you.
Maybe you continue your show parlays from earlier and so JD
do you did if you had to rank this with the third pick their
would you have taken classic cosplayer ethereal Road?
I've taken a few railroad. Yeah, classic that I think
classic Causeway needs a break and I think the trainer changed
might have something to do with that.
I don't want to read into that too much.
I don't want to put anybody on blast, but that's just my gut
feel of the situation where I feel like there might have been
a hey. This horse needs a break.
Oh we don't believe you. Let's find a new trainer.
That's a concern. I have going into this race
classic Causeway can prove me wrong.
I think classic Causeway of the two horses is a more talented
horse but I don't like classic Causeway in this spot.
Yeah, I just I like I like the connections of ethereal Road in
the third spot there. And so I was just asking because
I, when we talked about Pimlico that day we talked about, you
either play ethereal rotor, you spread and we decided to spread
and then at 30 road just showed up like a monster and so yeah, I
just don't know what to make it. I don't know what level of
horsey is but usually when we say that they that that horse is
an Ohio Derby type of horse or an Indiana Derby type of horse.
It just so happens that we have, you know, a, you know, a Tawny
port in a, in a way to borrow in this race.
And so it's just a little different that way, but but it's
cool. One of the things I've come to
enjoy more as I've gotten more into horse.
Racing is that these Regional Midwestern bees, especially
Ohio, Indiana, Iowa West, Virginia, whatever really do, Do
drop. You know because they gave up
their purses. They really up the the ANSI
there, they're drawing better and better horses and they've
turned into better fields. And this is an absolute example
of that. Yeah, no one's a president.
Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I, You Know, besmirching
Rich strike and saying, oh, he needs, you know, before before,
this, week's race was drawn, right?
Like originally I said, oh, you need to go to a race like the
Ohio Jeremy, but then I was like, no, even that I don't even
think he wouldn't be Ohio Derby, because if I graph competitor,
he's Charlestown and running the trucks on classic or something
like that. But like yeah, you have these,
these races at studies other tracks.
Don't focus on all the time that are really competitive now and I
think that's fabulous. So I'm right there with you
Louis, I'm really impressed by the fields that were drawn in
the last two races here at this little down the nose.
Hey, I mean, I know how to manage so like it.
Well, going to a place where I think you're more familiar with
the surroundings and can pronounce things a little
better. I, we're gonna go to this place.
Belmont Park. Is that is that is that how to
pronounce? I'm curious Belmonte Park and
racing all these wild Applause, Stakes, Phillies three-year-olds
going, one mile on the turf force and as per usual on the
naira circuit, it's a Turf race for three-year-olds.
So we have three Chad brown spots in this race.
I find myself going first and I believe, That this is very
simple. The horse's name is imminent
Victor because this horse will be the imminent victory in this
race. The Natoma last year is such an
incredible race. You look at Wild Beauty.
That's the low. North American start for wild
beauty and and Frankie to Tory came out and Road wild beauty
masterfully. That day is come back in one
more in France, Pizza, Bianca. I mean enough said there and
eminent Victor was right in that equation.
Chad Brown, second time in the barn is going to take the
blinkers off. This horse gets five and proud
aboard. Everything you like here 279 day
layoff I'm not concerned has been training for a long time.
Palmettos up to Keeneland to Churchill and now finally the
Belmont I think in a Victor first off the shelf wires this
field. Megan, you get second picture.
Oh, I do, I don't follow these things, I just wait for
Direction. So I I like Breezy a bit, the
four horse for Kristoff. Come on and Joel Rosario ran a
really, really good second last time actually too good to really
lose in the storm softly at Belmont going seven furlongs.
So we are getting the stretch out to a mile here but you get
that kind of shoot my Situation on the wide nature of course.
Oh, my feet are of course. Yeah, exactly.
But I thought that that race was really good with the way that
she ran but also because this horse had quite a bit of trouble
was in tight and then had to alter the course.
And, you know, we talked about we have talked about on the
show. I've talked about it, momentum
in races and I felt like the momentum of breezy was
definitely interrupted and that's so hard for a horse to
recover from. Really a horse that's you know
has to make one run at the end of a race and it's like you're
going to run out of real estate and that's exactly what
happened. So I think with a better trip
here, Joel Rosario is aboard this time.
Some making a rider switch. I think that Breezy is going to
show us your stuff here and you know she's she's in some decent
races overseas I guess some okay races I guess.
But I I just love Kristoff come out with these types of imports
and I expect her to Really improve here.
So I love her second off the layoffs in this spot.
I totally agree that Megan your second pick would have been my
top pick. I'll go with Oakhurst, then,
Jose Ortiz, and Chad Brown, because it's hotei who under the
Jose Ortiz and Chad Brown, since I have to make the third pick
here in a 5-horse, field has one heard last two, and go ahead and
Trust Oakhurst to go three for three here.
Okay, there you go. All right, we've got one more
Belmont, which is going to be the eighth race.
The great to Mother Goose, or as time form, has it on their, on
their past performance, is the Mongoose which I actually kind
of prefer. No.
Are you serious? Yeah, we have we have five
words, fields, and JuJu's. Matt is even money favorite in
this spot for black brag talks and floor on Giroux.
Megan. You have first pick in this spot
but you're going to give it to that bird behind leaving right
now? It's multiple birds.
Thank you. Sounds like a pterodactyl chick
but honestly, what is that? I'll be looking up in Surprise
as look like binoculars, right? Like he's like bird.
That's what woodpeckers look like.
Identifying all the different ones.
Oh my gosh, I can't not hear it. They give you live a 70 goats I
have thrown. Oh, I know
sponsor. You are really not wrong.
I wish you were right by the way.
And anyways, I'm gonna take your juice map.
I don't know favorite. He, right?
That being said, I actually feel like this is a really good race.
I could have made a case for shama and you invent a valentine
who I was shockingly impressed by in the morning works in the
Oaks. You got a really weird way of
going. She's really aggressive type of
a filly. She like had to be restrained
back. She had her head going up really
high every time and I asked for a break.
I said, is that how she usually is that normal for her, or is
she just on it today? I don't know what's happening
with the cat downstairs. But but he said no, that's how
she goes every day, every time no matter where we are, because
I thought I was gonna be the slop or something during the wet
days. But yeah.
No, that was, that was interesting.
That being said, what is your deal?
There's yeah, let's go. Let's yell about the burns where
there's like at your house. Okay.
Yeah. Okay.
At least cats in the birds are in the same room.
Let's just put that he felt left out I guess.
Okay so anyways I definitely had juice map on top so I'll take
gerrymander in the second spot here.
Coming out of the eight Bells did not run well but when in New
York two wins in four starts when it Belmont already likes
the surface there so I will take one in the in the tempted at a
mile. We're going a mile on a 16 /
that one turn At Belmont. And so second awfully off here,
I will go ahead and take the Chad Brown trained gerrymander
at 12:55. My S.
You like that horse. I did.
Yeah, it didn't work out but yeah, I liked her a lot.
Yep. Well, that was my top.
Pick in the race. So I am given in your face, the
options. Thanks, Tyra.
I'm gonna go with shama because I think if we sprung the gates
Like at the start of this show for the Kentucky Oaks I think
Sharm is still in the gate at this stage.
I mean that was just that was just rough.
Just didn't have a chance that day and is is always a tracking
horse. I just want to see this horse,
get out of the gate and maybe flavian learned something last
time. First time on the horse, that
can ease the horse a little bit into the gates, calm, the horse
down a little bit beforehand and get a good spring of the It's I
was actually quite surprised to see this horse at 9:00 to 5:00
in the morning line. I think this horse will probably
float up and I think gerrymander will float down and they'll both
muted about five to two. I also love one mile and a 16th
for shama though with the munnings.
You know, on top. I think.
Sure. You think I learned all that and
I don't know. I first of all, I agree with you
and I think that the trouble was more.
So the result and, you know, Thing with the Kentucky Oaks.
But I think this is a type of race that really will probably
suit her as far as pedigrees or concerned that mean half.
But looking at lucky have to Kenzie.
I mean this horse has like everything you want to see in
the pedigree and you know the The Sire line and everything for
this distance. I mean that's a great point -
all right so I have to Report. We are 65 minutes into the show.
I have hit my fingers on the cigar and so we are officially
ducking out of our single cigar for the bank.
There you go. Well, that, that brings us to a
very important part of this show, because every draft now,
obviously, this is more famous in the NFL draft, where they
make a big deal, and have a parade and a jacket and
everything for mr. Irrelevant the last Pit and the
draft. So we figured, you know, hey we
have a draft here and we're going to find the least
appreciated Stakes race on the on Saturday, which also might be
the stakes race with the lowest person in the country.
And we're going to highlight and we're going to spend Like that.
We're going to try to find a winner.
And unlike what we just went through at Belmont with these
five horse fields, we found you a ten horse field as we head to
Prescott Valley Arizona, race number running of the inaugural
Stakes, which is a five in one inaugural threat for
three-year-olds it up. We've got ten horses and they've
been bred everywhere and I don't even know where to begin other
than Louis. It's your pick to go first and
And we also think is this is this the first running of this
race or? No, no, no.
It's the as I said it was the it's the third running of the
inaugural Stakes. There you go.
Okay, I just wanted to make sure we cleared that up there.
Sorry Louis. You see these 10 wonderful
horses where you going to go? I got the gelding.
Ha ha ha. All right, so he's five or ten
of the distance. Got some time off after a
clunker in March Topic in the race.
I will take the 922 tapped to the max with Justin Evans.
And Cody, come back. My wife just got home and then
started the other car and now she's moving her other car.
Some We're and I don't know what it's like, this might be a sign
if I am I not wearing this next week?
You'll know why. Well, I don't know why yet.
But um, yeah. Yeah.
No, just a heads up. So no, I will take.
I'll take the three tap to the max with the first pick in the
inaugural day running steaks. Alright, second choice and I'm
going to tie this whole show together with my selection of
the five Dylan rocks. You want to know what jockey was
aboard? Dylan rocks for the debut Louis.
I don't know which one. Dildo, dildo rocks, debut, good
God, good, it's a while ago. What's yours is, here we go,
let's go. Oh no, that's okay.
That was the day I ran Ortiz, Junior.
Okay, there you go. So you have to go back a ways.
Obviously this horse is not ran on the dirt.
Very often has mainly been a Turf horse but you know, ran a
couple. Good dirt races at Aqueduct, had
a decent dirt race at Belmont. Can definitely handle the
surface and I think is just classier than the rest of this
Bunch obviously has not had a good season and, you know, we're
done talking about class. Well, I mean, yes, but this was
a hundred forty thousand dollar. OBS purchase by painter.
Obviously, this was the first racing. and still the first
horse out of rock a lily to hit the racetrack but I mean this
this horse 21 Morning Line. We're not going to get that.
I think people will look at this and say okay this is a mic maker
horse that you know one in 2021 at Tampa Bay Downs, one at 20:20
and 2020 at Gulfstream Park a couple times.
I think Dylan rocks. One Cantera Gutierrez is a very
talented trainer but usually a claiming and turn back trainer
usually plays the claiming game really well.
We don't see him take horses off the layoff very often so that is
a very interesting part of this Luckily, the short laugh, it's a
three month layoff. So I'm going with Dylan rocks at
21 and Louis is back on the show and Megan, where are you going
to go? You got Hannah Leahy on your
horse there. Dylan rocks, who was an exercise
rider for a long time and a good horse woman as well.
He's now turned into a jockey, I am genuinely shocked that I get
either. One of these forces.
I figured you would just go with Classy.
Because I mean that's you and me right obviously yeah I'm gonna
go with the 10 Ramblin Man. I mean over for here at Arizona
Downs with a couple of second and third place finishes but
likes this distance, reformat the distance and has one last
four races. So I like that trainer Dan Kenny
is when at fifteen percent so far this year and you know
coming up just a little bit of a Lay off since mid-april but
seems like there's is working well over at how to work.
Actually I should say Arizona Downs, just one.
Yeah, work before this. So I'm going to, I'm going to
take that horse. I like how uh-oh Bango is just
like every now and then pops up as The Sire with, like, a great
with a good winner. There was a few horses in
California. That I remember us talking
about, were like, who, oh, bang go, right.
And then I was like, you get a horse, it just like loves to Win
It. Just go on these streaks.
So, yeah, I'll take the ten horse.
One of my favorite things on the form is when it's a zhr and they
feel the necessity to say Arizona horse racing.
Yeah, we get it. We know what that means.
It's okay. Michael will get hers just fifty
four hundred dollars. Yeah, I love that.
Yeah. Like Jay said, these sources are
from everywhere to You've Got a New Mexico.
Bread, Arizona bread. I think there was a Kentucky,
California bread was like Idaho bread.
Yeah. I mean, it's just it's
fantastic. Really.
It's great. This is, this is a great race to
pick j.d. And they're also going to turns.
So just, I also like how they, at least in the Daily Racing
Form that they don't abbreviate Idaho neighbor V8 every other
state, right? That's such a good point.
No, no, this is Idaho. Yes, you read it correctly.
Just so you don't mistake it for if she'll be clear, this isn't
fair. That's what's happening here.
I just I love it so much. How far of a drive is Arizona
downs from your house j.d.? Now JD your mutant.
I can get there in about two hours and 15 minutes but about
an hour and 15 minutes of that is driving through Phoenix.
Yeah. Right.
Okay. I have to get through Phoenix
and then it's like an hour. What would you consider your
home track essentially? That's a heck of a question,
right? I'll is basically equal distance
between Turf Paradise and really do Park.
I would want to claim really do park for the history more so
than anything else the birthplace of horse racing.
So yep. We'll go.
There we'll say that's wrong track.
Good enough. Their whole third oldest track
in the country. Yeah, it was good.
Movie. What's yours?
Churchill's my home track because the know I can
appreciate other than Assiniboine.
I would say Churchill is no, the first-ever the first-ever horse
race I ever attended? Was at church I mean I have this
as something. So the fact that you did not
hashtag Louis Picks a horse that broke made in Seoul at Horseshoe
Indianapolis. Hashtag drink we're waiting for
that. It hasn't happened in probably
the last 10 episodes. Yeah.
I don't know, don't worry midnight, give it a 15 days.
I'll have to do that, but I by the way, I just I know he's
listening right now. Once this is released, he'll
listen tomorrow, but a guy named, Mike Mills has been a fan
of our show for over two years and I got to meet him last
Friday because he and his dad did it.
Yeah. He and his dad that a father-son
weekend. He told me he's in his mid-30s.
It was the first time his he and his dad ever got to a father-son
weekend and he just me and he said, hey or frankly, DM me on
Twitter and he said, hey, we decided we're going to go to
Churchill and golf and do this stuff.
You have any recommendations in Louisville and I said, what day
are you going to the track? And he said, oh, we'll be there
on Friday and I said, you know what, man, I'll meet you out
there and he's a it's from Texas and Megan knows this.
We have a weirdly huge following in Texas and because you can't
bet on your phone you like have to drive that the track to bet
it's pretty incredible. And and Got to meet Mike and his
dad and yes especially now is right.
And I got to I got to meet Mike and his dad and it was it was a
cool Experience you forget on this show that that it's it's
that we have fans all over the country and they listen and I
was really appreciative to get to meet Mike and hang out and I
think I got to show him a good time at Churchill Downs.
I hope that's true. And he said something like we
were standing in the paddock because I totally abused my
media privilege and we're standing in the paddock before.
I don't know the fifth race or something and he's looking
around, he's looking at the at the Spires.
And he goes, I can't imagine this being my home track.
And I had to remember for a minute that Churchill's my home
track and I get spoiled here pressure, you know, ten weeks a
year, whatever it is. And and all the great Horsemen
and women that are here and all the great horses and everything
else and the cards and what have you and it was it was just an
excellent and excellent experience and so Mike thank you
for I know. I'm sure Mike think so Louis.
He got me in the paddock and I got to do, you know, it was, it
was cool to hang out with someone who hangs out with our
Every week and we really feel that way.
And so Mike, cheers to you and cheers to everyone that does
hang out with us every week because we really do mean it.
When we say thanks for hanging out with me, knit and You know
it's a was it was frankly, pretty humbling.
I got to hit him a single barrel cigar say, hey we're so that was
really great and so Mike, thank you for a terrific experience.
I really appreciate it. And for anybody else, that wants
to meet up with any members of the horse-racing a PR, please do
so. It's great.
And on that note, as well, might as well.
This is fun. I'm glad we did the, the, the
draft and got Louise, you know, emotional response to their
draft going on. Let's call it the other draft
and and I'm sure we'll see. This format repeated on other
podcast here shortly. So, yeah, this is fun.
This is Time. I think we're being kicked out,
though, because we are 17 minutes, past closing.
So with that, thanks for hanging out with the horse race.
Be happy hour on - I'm. He's liquor bow.
He's JD Fox Big Fudge, missing this week but we'll catch up
