Alright, welcome to the horse racing.
Happy hour. I'm Makin da po joined by Louver
bow and the track announcer at Golden Gate, mr.
Maddie d-mat, dinner men, whose Sans.
Sans, this is not good. It listens like, you know, go
with our mat aquila's, you know, try that out even live in the
city. It's like a thousand bucks a
month for a bunk bed in the city for when you guys share it with
a guy named Steve. Yeah.
Oh yeah, it's could be rough out there, so thanks for joining us
today. Matt Matt is a regular guest.
I would say on the horse racing, happy hour Louise, I fair I
think he's our most regular guest.
Yeah. What an honor.
I don't know what else. They will be dead person.
It'll be a thing. There you go.
It will be a drink. I drink the last but least
compared to all your guests though, but that's okay.
No, there's we have 1000 John Dominguez.
Yes, not know. David Cohen.
All right, let's let's get right into it because we had a big
weekend out at Monmouth last week and of course, it was
Haskell day and we'll start with the Haskell.
Start with will lead, will lead with the lead, you know, because
I don't know if it's a big upset.
I think people thought CyberKnife was capable of
winning the Haskell. Louis, would you think I had
CyberKnife on the ticket? Maybe a pig.
All right, let's, let's go ahead and roll this thing and watch
CyberKnife. Winning the Haskell.
Theoretically, we don't want to watch some every night.
Okay, okay, yeah, it's gonna it's gonna come.
So we're gonna get the stretch run right here.
He's not putting in. We lost the audio pole and now
Jack Chris Terrio. A big run from howling time with
a three-wide bit at the quarter pole at the rail been Evancho
just behind them cyber night. And then, Tabor, they turn for
home. It's Jack.
Christopher and front howling time.
Tabor switches to the outside and he's not putting in a strong
bid, and here comes Tabor table in the center of the track with
good-looking stride squares off with CyberKnife CyberKnife takes
the lead. Tabor go Whether these two
enough Thriller CyberKnife just in front and CyberKnife has one
that he be g.com. Haskell orbit table Jack,
Christopher finished third. All right, Lilly I know you did
pick CyberKnife, okay? But you also were like super
high on Jack Christopher. I love Jack Christopher.
I still do ya know there's no reason not to like Jack
Christopher, you know, if this were a Churchill Downs year, I'd
love him in the in the Breeders Cup, dirt mile, for example,
because it's one turn at Churchill Downs and I think that
that would be a spy. Out where he would be really,
really good. You have to tell me mad.
I think it's a to turn my lat, delmar's it not.
It is a to turn - yes. Well, I don't know where he
fits. That's kind of the hard part
about him this year, on a Breeders Cup level.
Now, I think that he can pick off a bunch of three-year-old
races this year still, but but CyberKnife is one of those
horses we've seen over the years, where they might not have
been ready in the Triple Crown season, but we get right after
it there. Ready to go, whatever it might
be, you know, even a couple years ago when we had the delay
in the Triple Crown sees it, he might have been one of the
horses that really would have benefited from that.
I have been really good in the September Derby, in October
Preakness, something like that. And so, you know, I had him in
there because I think with table, there was a bit of a
layoff and switching Barnes again and figuring that out.
And then Jack Christopher go to turns for the first time we had
seen it, at least with, with CyberKnife at some kind of
higher level. I guess you could say.
And so, do a good win for him. I mean, when in the Haskell's a
big deal, that's a sour making race.
So it was surprising enough though because we thought of the
top two is the time to so much that even for Frank Mir body has
been doing this for 100 years side.
Murdock caught him a little off. You know a little off-guard
going up the rail there. Even Matt did you get that sense
from his call? Yeah, I think he was focusing on
table and I actually thought at the eighth pole table was going
to win just at the moment that he sort of was focusing on him
and table seems like a horse that he's I don't know, he's
quirky to ride but he's definitely a horse that you need
to stay after because it he was all-in at the 5/16 Paul and he
just finds gears that we don't think are there.
He's a good horse but I do want to give a lot of credit to
Florence. Roo, I think the ride made a
difference. I think CyberKnife is a very
good horse, but he gave a fantastic ride on CyberKnife.
It was an A-Plus quality ride and that really made a big
difference. The horse ran a great race, he
was ready to roll, he look loaded at the quarter pole, but
for on gave them a master for ride as well, and credit to him
and the horse CyberKnife, very good effort, a boat ran.
Well, and I would also note to guys, I just want to mention
this, the Jack Christopher. I don't think he didn't get the
dish. Distance.
I think you got the distance. I just think he's better at one
turn. He's better going.
One turn then use it to turns. He finished strong, he ran a
good race, but here we just third-best going to turns of
that. Just how it is with those
fractions. He did all the work up front
too. So yeah.
No shit. No.
Shame in the race. I greet, you bet.
Yeah, I mean, I don't know. He definitely tailed off there
then I mean he finished second to last I mean but I know at
some point you were going to save the horse in is like you're
right. It's not our day whatever and go
on with it. So Lily were you surprised that
CyberKnife went off that y de Barrio went off ahead of cyber
not as far as the odds. Go 5161.
Yes they are. Yes I thought that but to be
fair those numbers aren't that different.
So now they're not. Yeah.
You know what a bar is already? A grade one winner.
So wasn't as though, you know, he wasn't, you know, didn't have
the pedigree look. Usually the Florida, the Florida
Derby winner. You said of to the Haskell.
That's a horse. You expect to be right there.
And so he obviously needs a little bit of a freshening.
A little time off. Maybe just gets back.
Back to Gulfstream, maybe that's where he will run his best, his
best races, and nothing wrong with that.
And so that horse that I really liked early in the spring.
And Matt believe it or not, was my Derby pick.
But yeah, just hasn't been able to put it back together.
I CyberKnife though, is on the up, Y tu Barrio needs a reset, I
think, okay? And I'm always assume that we're
going to see CyberKnife Point straight to the classic.
Travers, Traverse person there. I'm sorry.
I'm not leaving to go to the Travers.
I'm talking about which Breeders Cup besides the classic or the
Mi he's gonna, he'll go to the classic the last yeah.
At this point. Hello, go to classic and again I
think it's going to be just so interesting to watch who chooses
what depending on what flight line and Jackie's Warrior and
what they do. So just something to kind of
watch and we're just kind of getting into that citizen.
So there you go. All right, so one of these
traces that we talked about the United Nations, which is the
four spot in the The Breeders Cup turf at home.
Oh gets the win here. So let's take a look.
A building stock cruising along, but here comes a domino.
Now cut loose on the outside coming with a menacing bid.
With a furlong left to go, Adamo eating into their ground held by
tributing. Who's finding more of the 16th
Paul. It is tribunal banana Dahmer and
RE/MAX and Adama runs right on by on Domino ruins.
The United Nations Photo for second goes.
All right, Louis what'd you think of that run?
So I gave out the top three from the Manhattan.
I said use these three walk away.
Take gufo on top of gufo was not to be found in this race
starting to wonder if the glass. Yeah.
Start to wonder about his year coming up here if he's not, if
he hasn't peaked and needs either, a trip to the shed or
just, you know, just another horse that needs a little bit of
a reset. You know, the only thing I gave
out of this race that was good as that I thought I said, the
nine horse would hit the board and he went off it.
Like 38 to water something to hit the board, hit R and S
ession. So yeah, so not anything
spectacular, Lee handicapped by be because I think one of those
three horses was going to win, Adamo amongst the American
contenders will be one of the best in the turf.
When we get there this fall in the Breeders Cup I don't know
that that horse will win but absolutely has done enough in
the last couple of great ones and the United Nations is As
Good As It Gets In America interfacing.
So kudos to connections because horse ran a great race mat and
take away from this chart face. Hi, Chad Brown on the turf.
That's probably all the analysis I've got.
That's pretty much what we said. Pretty much always say on the
show. Yeah, very impressive.
I mean, it's really amazing. How many good Turf horses.
This guy has and you can train a good dirt or has obviously, but
it's incredible. I mean, he's monopolized at the
very least East Coast Turf racing.
I mean it's just one good horse after the other and they just
take turns winning. I mean, it's incredible.
That's what is there to say, you know?
Yeah, no, not necessarily to say, so we'll just, we'll just
move on to the Molly Pitcher, and take a look here because,
you know, I think a little bit of a surprise here.
Go ahead and let's roll the Molly Pitcher.
This is the new leader. Best dream angling around
pennybaker drops back as they reach the top of the stretch and
leader of the band. Now, moves clearly in the second
down at the rail Army Wife and Bonnie South but it's all search
results with a 16th to go. Three-link lead leader of the
been trying hard. But I can't get those search
results who was much too strong in the Molly Pitcher.
Surprised I wasn't going to surprise the search results one
but was surprised that we didn't see Bonnie South anywhere.
I don't know. I think it's sometimes a horse
like search results, just, it's just classic own class and she's
just so classy in that race. So, ready to go.
Just did not the two terms. I was worried about did not
affect her. This was probably my worst bet
against of this year. Try to beat her in my tickets,
just to try to. Yeah, there it is and so it's a
You know, once in a while, the class horses just class on these
kinds of days, we saw a bit frankly in back-to-back races,
between to move on and search results there.
And so know Kudos because she was ready.
This was obviously the spot to slaughter in.
And so I don't know the next step for her though, for older
horses. So maybe back to Saratoga to aim
for one of those older to turn Philly Races, they do have them,
I'll shoot now. So, maybe there's going to be a
filly and mare Stakes out of that shoot.
I'm just not sure. And so what her condition will
be next Time out. But, yeah, I mean search results
looked as good as you can. All I know is the distaff class
is once again, just spectacular and look at, that's right.
And we tell you, on this show fall in love with the Phillies
because they run forever as Mayors.
And search results is another example of that.
Matt, well, when you think about the way search results ran in
her last race at Belmont, I believe it was the Ogden Phipps
where she dual them. A lead with licked, rusta sugar
off and then got run down late by malathion and Claire are.
And of course, those two came back to run first and second at
Saratoga the other day you could make the argument search results
was best that day. A very strong argument that some
people may not believe that, but I think she could have been best
in Might have been able to one with a better pay scenario.
So for me, I thought she was a standout in the Molly Pitcher
versus Bonnie South who it's a decent Philly.
But she almost reminds me of sort of a grade 2 may be easier,
field grade, one type, it's just a notch or two below the best
Phillies and mayor's, it's so search results winning the way
she did. I think you made a good point.
Mike, Chad Brown said, okay, we just suffered a really tough
loss and the Ogden Phipps against tougher.
Let's find a little easier spot. Get her confidence back.
Back up and then move along and really start getting it ready
for the Breeders Cup distaff and she'll be a major player in that
I think I mean do you think we could see her in the Alabama or
that little too far away? Is it going to be something
before that? I mean, I think, well, when's
the Alabama in a month. Maybe the 20th of August, which
horse, we talk about now search result.
She Alabama's for three-year-olds.
Oh, that's right. Yeah.
The other three year old feelings yeah.
Yeah. That's right.
That's right now that distance would be perfect for her.
A mile and a quarter, the two terms of Saratoga, she'd
probably be very good with what we just saw in the Molly
Pitcher. So that's why I was asking.
I don't know what her condition is going to be next time out if
this had been a three-year-old race at mom, that would be
obvious that she pointing to the Alabama.
But I I just, I just don't know with her, I'm sure.
I will pick a great spot for yeah.
I mean, I don't know the stakes schedule at Saratoga off the top
of my head with the older Filly and mare division, they could
train her up to the distaff. I have a feeling they might
represent Belmont on that big day in October.
Maybe they run her a month before the distaff or the best
meets on. Yes.
Yeah. The personal Ensign exactly.
Well, that's something like that.
So that's probably your next spot and then, Depending on how
she's doing, they may just trainer into the classic or they
could, you know, give her one more race in October and then
runner in the classic. But I would say the personal
engine would be her spot and Sheehan exert, that much energy
in that last race. I don't think we learned back in
a month, going to be a problem at all.
So that field right now in the person that they're looking at,
could be, she tears, the devil Etruscan, alphabet and Claire
and then if search results got in there too.
So she dares the devil's coming here to Del Mar.
But oh yeah, her so that That's confirmed.
So that's their point. That's out there.
All right. Oh yeah, yeah, from the Hersh.
Okay, I see that and they're not going to go.
They wouldn't do three weeks later and ship cross-country.
So I wouldn't think you wouldn't think no slit opens up a slot
for for, for search results. And frankly, right?
Yeah, I mean, it gives her one less person, one less front
running horse to have to deal with, in that case.
So it's actually a positive for. All right, so we good week in
there, we're starting to get that Breeders Cup picture coming
to come into focus a little bit. You know, horses went in there
winning their in, but the cool thing that they did in Monmouth,
was they did this fixed odds, betting Louis, what is your take
on the fixed odds, betting? So I'm not interested in it.
Personally, I'm in horse sir. What are the reasons?
I enjoy horse racing is because it is paramutual and I like
betting against other betters rather than against the house
but it is something in New Jersey that they are trying out
and you know the idea is essentially if you like a horse
and it's 2 to 1 you get it at 221 rather than if it could hit
gets hammered at the window to 325.
Or something like that and you can you can lock in what you
want to do that way. The the reason I put it on the
show sheet and the reason I think it's interesting is
because if we are to attract new younger, betters to the sport,
they're going to be used to fixed odds.
That's just what they're coming from paramutual.
I remember getting a text message for my brother-in-law,
angrier than I can imagine because he bet a horse and it
was three, two, one. And he goes off at 425, he's
like, man, why do I not have $100 on this?
Twenty five dollar bet. Why do I have, you know, $45 and
I said, well, This is why this is what happened to Dada.
And so, I think if you come from, oh, I'm betting, you know,
the Chargers game rabbit, and the doubt the Broncos, or
whatever you get used to that, that fixed odds, that
one-to-one, the 221, whatever it might be.
And so, I don't know that it's a bad idea to attract new people
to the game. But if it doesn't increase the
pools at the at the track at the window, whatever for guys like
us who are betting against one another, I don't know matter,
you have a strong feeling of fixed odds.
I think it's a good concept. I think it's an interesting
concept and I know there are certain players out there that,
you know, they're hoping to get 421 on a horse and at the gate
there for 21, they go up at 221 and, you know, they're a little
upset about it. So, I like the concept of fixed
odds. I think it's good for the game.
I think it makes it a little easier for the player to like to
play the win, bets to go for it. And to be rewarded, if you are
able to analyze, the fact that there's a horse, that's a
potential overlay. And like you said, Louie.
I think you bring up a good point.
Point, A lot of people are used to fix the odds.
So when you get new people in the game and you can teach them
that, that's probably a little bit easier for them to
comprehend, understand play with confidence, and that's what you
need to do. When you bring in somebody new,
they need to feel like they're confident, they need to feel
like they know what they're doing and that they're used to
it at some point. I think personally, like it's
kind of just adds a whole nother strategy point to it, like the
people who the people who study the scratches are going to come
out big like, you know, I thought about that race and
Indiana, you know that We like that horse, that was going to be
what 921 10:00 to 1:00 in the morning line.
But then the favorite got scratched out and horsens up
winning, but we like that, you like that horse anyway, right?
So any time with you or something?
Yeah, because of the scratches. Yeah.
So like you go early. You get that you get a locked in
then and and has a novice better.
You can really start looking at. Okay, this is where the, and I
don't know, I guess the fix odds would not affect the paramutual
odds. I don't know how that works.
So I guess you wouldn't watch. The money came in and you
wouldn't be able to see where all the fix odd money came in
but because it doesn't go into the same, pool has see totally
separate so I think it's pretty interesting just from a strategy
play of how you can do it and it rewards.
It's going to reward the handicapper that studies the the
day before, or the day of and makes all her their picks at
them in the morning or it could be the opposite, maybe they're
like, hey, I don't like this horse that, you know, I don't
like this horse at 4:53, but if it goes to 21, Let's hammer it,
you know, so I guess this is it. Do they have separate windows
for that me? I'm just curious about the
logistics of the whole thing of how they pulled it off this
point on the, in the article points out that it's only
available online at this point. It's okay.
Yeah. That's how they're doing it.
Yeah. Because I mean it could be
logistically, it just correct. Yeah.
You would have to keep these things very separate for
gambling purposes for legal purposes and so but there's a
there's a significant number of tracks that are going to try it
out between a couple of tracks in Manitoba said a boy and
Century mile and then sick Canterbury Park.
Colonial Delaware, Emerald Downs, Tampa Bay Downs, talk
about Monmouth, grants, passing a bunch of different places that
might try this out and so while none of those are, you know,
High a level tracks or anything. A lot of those are really,
really playable on, canterbury's got great, take out rates that
kind of stuff. And so, you know, everybody
knows beam down at a Tampa Bay and all that.
So you know it's very, you know, those are, you know, Manos,
nothing to shake a, you know to put down it also you know, the
idea that You know at literally the idea though is to add the
boutique tracks as part of this too so Saratoga they call it a
boutique track it's not a boutique track it carries.
Then you see that Del bar at Keeneland, the idea to get fixed
races to there as well, but we'll see.
I it's a lot of it. I think, for example, like I
think Kentucky would be the last place to go to this iconic
dance. Be like 'that sounds like
Kentucky down, things like that. But you would have to stand on
the Tennessee side of the Border, like a dude, if you from
the track here, right? Yeah, I think I do.
Yeah. About it.
So, and at the end of day, it's it's to me, it's kind of similar
to, like the lived all thing. Like the lrb golf and live golf,
whatever you wanna call it, but like, just a different way to
kind of approach the sport. And, you know, if you get some
people interested, let's go for it.
So I think that's the biggest positive is if you can get
people who are used to fixed odds, gambling interested in
horse racing through that mechanism than not, I'm for
sure. Wow, and how many of these
places now? Have casinos tattooing that are
doing sports gambling, whatever else?
I mean, that's just what it is. So Matt, what is the drink of
choice? When you're watching races down
Del Mar del Margarita. Of course, not only are we
related. Yeah, you got to drink that much
but I will have Margaritas. Do you get snooty about your
tequila? So we got the Bing Crosby, we
got the San Diego handicap this weekend, Matt like like always
that's a Diego handicap is loaded.
I mean it's just it's turned into one of the great races of
the calendar. You know, horses that people
will know in here, for sure, you know, it's interesting five to
one on there goes Harvard into funded was just ran really huge
races in the Gold Cup. You get, cut your grammar.
Coming back stateside off of a win in the do World Cup stiletto
Boys in this race that a log price.
You could catch. I mean even horses like a
Tripoli at 12:54 in second last year in this race.
Yeah, Royal ship who's been running really well in Southern
California, for 21 with Mike Smith aboard, loaded feel bad,
totally loaded field. And this is, of course, the race
to prep for the Pacific classic. So, who's ever got the goods for
this race, if they stay healthy, they're going up against the big
boys flight line if you of course can get them.
Mama quarter. I'm actually not going to be
using Country Grammar on any of my tickets this weekend.
I agree with Bob baffert's analysis.
I think he's a mile and a quarter horse.
I think he's better, a mile and a half mile and a quarter.
He sort of strikes me as a classic distance horse.
I think this is a good prep to get them ready for the Pacific
classic. And I think he's probably going
to be 85 90 percent here. And then by Pacific classic time
fitness-wise, I'll get a lot out of this race and be 100%.
He's been out work by As who's going to actually run in the
Bing Crosby. And I think you have morning
line. Favorite, actually.
But you have to be a little bit sort of open-minded, with these
works. I think because Shaz is very
Sprint, he's very fast and Country Grammar isn't, he's more
of a distance horse. So even though she has is out
working Country, Grammar he could go five furlongs all day
long. No problem.
Maybe she has needs a little more distance.
I'm not going to not play him just because of The workouts,
it's not just because of the workouts, I think country Aramis
just being set up for the Pacific classic.
But I do think that when you think about that a sprinter is
probably going to look a little bit faster and better in a
workout than a horse that needs a mile.
And according so that's how I see it.
So do you have a favorite in the, in the in the handicapped?
I'm still sort of trying to figure out how do you mad.
I mean, I think triple he's very attractive not just because I
work for John Sadler. I have a little bias there I
suppose, but I think that his last race was just like we
talked about Country Grammar for this San Diego.
I think it was on the turf, he's a better dirt horse, obviously,
I think it was a total just, let's get a run into him, let's
get him ready for the two races at Del Mar, I thought it was a
sneaky good effort. I don't think you have to It is
trip runs well here in training. Great.
So he would be the horse that I would give the nod to at 12:54
and I think it's a very good bedding race.
Alright. And then in the classic names
that people would know for sure, you land on horses, like or
excuse me in the closet in the cross.
Me horse, I think most interesting entry actually is a
horse coming out of state bread ranks is going to be Desmond off
the one. You talked about Shaz obvious
connections there within the baffert barn bag, boss coming
off, a back-to-back wins at Churchill Downs, over six
furlongs, you get a drain, the clock that people know if they
pay attention in Florida, but previously out in the New York
circuit Principe, Cayo Carlo, Howbeit.
It's an interesting doesn't feel like a grade one, feel to me,
Matt, but it feels like a grade one kind of betting race.
Actually pretty competitive. It's a very competitive race, it
sort of feels like a grade 1 race with maybe a couple horses
in there, that are better with maybe a little bit easier, grade
10 horses, versus maybe a Breeders Cup Sprint, winter, for
example, and I think with that in mind, you'll look at a horse.
Maybe that's on the upswing. And that's why I landed on the
shipper bag, boss. I think he's very intriguing.
I think that he's going to get a good trip.
He obviously like six furlongs his forms going in the right
direction as opposed to maybe a horse like drain the clock who
you could make an argument is the classiest horse in the race
and maybe the best horse in the race.
But where's his form going? He came off a layoff last time
out and you didn't run well at all at Gulfstream over a track
that he has run well over. So, with that in mind, I think
you've basically got to Morning Line favorite, I believe country
grammars the morning line favorite in the San Diego, but
you've got two favorites here. Here that I think are vulnerable
in these races and you can look for a mild price in there.
Maybe even a pricey get one. Yeah, I agree.
So these will be some fun races, Matt.
We're going to let you get along with your day, we always
appreciate it. When you jump on our see what is
the money? Three Colts Haiti, kappahd
Twitter. Go find him.
If you're one of the seven people that doesn't follow him
on Twitter. Thanks, man.
All right, guys, it's been a pleasure have fun.
Let's get the money. I love it.
See you bud. Alright.
So that was Dinner, man, the tracking outside Golden Gate.
And yeah, thanks, man. He's always great to be having
the show where I was appreciate his time someday.
He'll have a bad day. Today is not that day.
No not not working. And that's that's stopped at a
general that I mean he's at his favorite track, by the way, I'll
never say it with him on the show but Trevor Trevor is
getting to the time where he's going to be retiring and that's
the national math. So natural to be mad as a
no-brainer. There people are going to look
at other people. You know, the they had a Larry
called us out there, you know, last year during or whatever
Matt is clearly the next guy, a Delmar to me and like, not not
close, he'll do all the work. He's perfect for that place.
I matter to know what out there, but but I will, I will go ahead.
I will, I will cheese format to be the next guy, Delmar for
sure, All right. Well I wouldn't I wouldn't mind
that at all. Be great.
Yeah so let's get into the handicapping portion of the show
Louis and this is of course brought to you by great Racing 3
cheats racing there it is our friends, a Green Sheet racing
who of course if you're familiar with going out to the track at
all, if you grew up going the track like I did the one the
things you I would always see is the stand that had the programs
and they'd all be selling the tip sheets in the one that stood
out to me, was the yeah, that green sheet.
And of course, keeping up with technology, you can now go to
Green Sheet Racing.com and get your picks for the day.
And, you know, you might even see some selections.
They're from Lou Ruvo. So interesting, wrinkle this
weekend. We're going out west for our
pics. We're going to Del Mar for that
Bing Crosby and for that San Diego handicap as Matt mentioned
wide. Open in those two races, which,
of course means that the favorites will come robbing
home, but the you can check out my lead sequence there at sheet
racing.com, especially if you're out of the West Coast, might be
a little harder to get a physical sheet.
No reason not to get a good digital sheet that she tracing
duck a great racing. Doc Greene, she racing their
Comm, can't forget the green at sheet racing on Twitter, excuse
me, greasy racing.com, it's green because it's going to put
green your pocket. That's what it's all about.
So, let's go, let's talk about, it's like that's how you do
radio people, right? That's, that's it.
So, this is a podcast, Louis, it is a five-sided podcast, people
that's cheese. Oh Pete, let's start with that
grade one. Bing Crosby out of Delmar, it is
a six Furlong Sprint on the dirt and this has been a race that
has been Created by our friend of the show flavor and Pratt.
Not really afraid of the show because absolutely.
So anyway, plus we've never spoken with them.
He has no idea how many are etcetera, etcetera.
Okay. Yeah, flavian has won six out of
the last seven of these races. Of course named after Legendary
singer and actor, Bing Crosby was one of the founding members
of Delmar and I say that Lou because we have a low, we have a
younger demographic on this show who may or may not know who Bing
Crosby is. Do you think?
Older audience. Would you not know?
Hmm. He's such a Christmas music
icon. I think most people would know
who. Yeah.
Right. I was gonna say there's so many
songs that you affiliate with very specific things in American
culture like white Christmas. I mean that's like that.
I would like to think that people do who Bing Crosby has
yeah. Maybe not.
As acting though, to be fair. I mean they might not have known
though, just how or at horse racing.
Yeah. How involved in sports in
general? I mean he was a he was a sports
guy, you know so he was he was a former College athlete.
And just I mean he had a lot of going on in sports.
So there you go. Bing Crosby, the Bing Crosby
Stakes race that I had been to is not always been on this
weekend with LG, sorry about the static.
They're not always been a race that's been on the same weekend
in San Diego handicap but it is this time.
So Louis what do you think? What's going to happen?
So this is this is really a sort of a fascinating race.
He brings up the baffert who I actually have third in my
handicapping that's the to shop. Is this is an uncle Mo has
turned out to be a sprinter. In their estimation horse has
been going to turns over a mile last couple times outran in the
Sean McCarthy borrowed last time out because of the baffert
suspension prior to that though. I'm suspended what over a mile
at Santa Anita. Which you know, your tracks is a
tutored dirt mile at Santa Anita previously, ran in seven.
Furlongs got wind there by disqualification, ahead of disco
ball and of course, one on Debut.
This is a classic baffert though for years old is only run, four
times a bunch of gaudy speed figures runs a 10-5 on debut and
so if you're looking to be really skinny with your tickets,
your trust backward in this spot him and Juan Hernandez, hitting
it 29% already 3412 at Del Mar this meat.
So if you're looking for that horse, that is sort of the okay.
This is the one that's most likely to pick it off based on
history, Raza tea, or whatever you want to do.
It's going to be the two shots back boss.
He Better, rispoli and Brendon Walsh who have only run together
eight times in. Those were all in the Kentucky
area either here or at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Only one win in those, eight goes who bear does trip to the
Midwest, didn't go well. So he's back in Southern
California. Glad to see him back out there.
He's already hitting it. 20% at Del Mar the first weekend.
Really good guy. Had him on the radio show a
couple months ago. This is the horse that Matt
mentioned, is on the up and they're shipping for this race.
This is not a great one. I want to be really clear, this
is not a great one, it might be a great three and I'm not trying
to bag on on this race, but there are not a lot of great
horses in this race. Shaw's is not a great grade.
One real horse Morning Line favorite, he sent him done,
nothing to Warrant being the morning line favorite integrated
one especially with the name. Bing Crosby on, let's be real
about it. Diamond Hoops is got a walker on
the Maybe. Yeah, I mean he's I heard he's
going to be traveling in a golf cart actually the so bad boss
comes in off at two wins both the Churchill Downs, just that
surface translate on dirt. It has translated to Saratoga
this year. By the way, the turf is not
translated to Saratoga, so interested to see if the dirt
translates to Del. Mar he mentioned drain, the
clock was coming in off of a very poor effort at Gulfstream
Park lost by over 5 likes. Now to be fair to that horse,
that's the bounce off of being on the Arabian Peninsula, we
talked about that balance a lot on this show, so my sense is,
Maybe it's the second up in the United States horse.
Gets a you know a little bit more of his legs underneath
them. You got to remember, if you're
going for Florida to San Diego, the horse was in a box on a
plane had to travel out and has not enemies.
It does not have his. Last work was July 24th.
Extreme parts of the horse hasn't even been a towel bar.
So I mean that's really, really unattractive to me.
I'm really going to lean on the Southern California horses in
this race. So I have America theorem on top
here in America. Theme is a puppet romeu with 4
to 1 odds here. Joel Bravo. 97 last time about
the triple bed wins by a nose over Principe Carlo.
I think you include both of those horses, both writing and
send Anita before this, on the one turn seven furlongs.
They're getting a little bit less distance here.
That's the only problem for America theorem is he's going to
have to go a little more quickly than usual.
He's actually kind of a stalking mid-pack type even for a
sprinter. So he's going to have to get
going a little bit more quickly let than he did last time.
Which is why I think Richard Carlo has a chance here because
I do think he could get out front.
Stay out front. I think there's a serious chance
at that in this race. But I think if you leave Shaw's
out your Your mind. Those are the three horses for
me though. So I'll go 95 and to in the
cross B and if people are wondering if like being practice
not having me on this tray so flavian print cannot win, seven
out of eight, it's not gonna happen.
There you go. See flagrant, even in
California. I don't think he is he he's
riding at Saratoga. Yes, territory.
That's right. And they've got the Jim Dandy
weekend so he's busy doing that. Yeah, there you go.
So then we're going to move onto the scene.
Diego handicap. Which despite is it not a great
one? Is it?
It's a great to is probably the A much better race than the
grade one Bing Crosby and there's no place like a grab one
actually. Yeah, yeah.
So this is a, this is a lead up to the grade 1 Pacific classic,
but this is got a great great field, including Tripoli and
Royal ship. Both of Hit the board in this
race last year Country. Grammar, like we say, coming off
the win in Dubai, we got main balloon.
Who supposedly won the Derby and then the fund it there goes
Harvard, you I mean, this is this a race where you have five
or six they could probably win this race.
Yeah so on the morning line and again I have I'm sorry they're
not a my pee pee so I have to go and pull these up and I'll go
base used to be a job that I have it.
Apparently I have it again. Country Grammar is 1:55 here.
I'm with Matt I don't think you better horse coming out of the
Arabian Peninsula right away. It's just something that we
don't we've never liked it on the show, I mean for sure happy.
It's like a one-in-ten kind of thing.
I'm going to trust that the trip from the Arabian.
Peninsula to California is so much for a horse by the way, cut
your grammar going into that race was like 10 to 12, 12, to
1, that kind of thing in in Dubai.
So too, Me not a toss but just not in the top sort of two or
three for me in this race. If you get a chance to throw the
1:55 horse out and I list I laid it on the 1 & 2.
There goes Harvard and defunded and I'm going to try those
horses here. Danny over are with Mike
McCarthy, has won his last to both of the optional claimer
level and then comes back wins that wins the Santa Anita
handicap the Gold Cup. Scuse me and, you know, right
behind him was defunded. I guess this weekend.
I'm just going to be late. I'm going to be leaning on
Southern California horses to come through here.
I don't know how much mandolin isn't just a I don't want to be
ugly here. I know just saying it's kind of
a pack horse, man. I mean, like, if he wins, he
gets he DQ's into it or whatever it might be, you know, he wins.
The, the grade 3, Louisiana, I think the horses in this race
are better than in that race. So he beats, you know, midnight
Bourbon and warrant in that race.
I don't know how good midnight bourbon really is a horse
mandolin gets credit for the The Mont the Pegasus at Monmouth
before the Haskell where he wins because hot rod Charlie DQ's.
I just I think that that he's at least vulnerable you could
include them and I wouldn't think you're crazy.
Let our boys interesting here Brad forth in that race in the
Gold Cup at Santa Anita before that though, whens the
California at Santa Anita over a mile and an eighth and so if you
wanted to use a horse like that might make some sense.
I think saying you are Bruce Couture is a toss.
I tried to use him last year. There isn't star comes back wins
in and allows they think a lot of that horse because they keep
shipping them to super tough spots with Todd future.
Training, their part delis, an Testing Southern California,
horse and you do give Victor Espinoza, but I think he's a
little out of his comfort level here.
He's been winning in the optional claimer ranks and is
trying the grade to hear a little bit too much for him.
Probably Royal ship though, if you wanted to use an old
established six year old gelding, who's won a bunch of
races, he might be your play. He did when the Pacific classic
last year at Del Mar. So if you wanted a horse Excuse
me, that was AAA AAA. If you want to use Tripoli I'm
sorry if you want to use an older horse a five year, old
horse here, that's one before ads elmar.
You would use Tripoli who's won the Pacific classic.
So going the distance and being able to cover those things but
I'm really going to try to. I'm going to try to be a little
contrary in here. I'm going to use, there goes
Harper to defunded in my tickets in the handicap.
There goes Harvard. One has won his last three races
and Louise hoping that it can be the fourth.
And by the way you mentioned Parnelli, I think Parnelli had a
dead heat with their egos Harvard it a couple races.
Yeah. So Parnelli could be right there
and of course, it's a nice Italian name.
So we'll yeah, yeah, I kind of agree with you.
Louis. I'm, but and then of course,
Royal ship finished third in that gold cup at CNN, Dita
behind there goes Harvard, and to fund it.
But I think, I think you would have to look at those two
horses. And I, if I had to guess, I
think the fund is probably a little bit better a horse,
probably just got beat by there goes Harper, and then that's
when I think the fun, that's who I would go with him that race.
But, you know, you can listen ESPN Radio tomorrow because
we're going to be doing this again.
It's true. So if you want to check us out
it's Louis 10 to noon. Audience being 680. 1057 in
Louisville. ESPN Louisville.com or on just a
street-smart speaker. ESPN play ESP, a little while
please and you'll pull right up and Mike and I will be on doing
horses 11:00 to 12:00 a.m. eastern tomorrow on Friday.
It is, love it. All right, we're going to go out
to Saratoga for the Alfred G, Vanderbilt handicap, another
Sprint race on the dirt, six furlongs.
So this is we've got a West Coast big-time grade.
One Sprint race and now here's the East Coast one.
The Vanderbilt Louis, have you liking this one?
Jackie's Warrior is in this race.
Oh, she's pretty, he's pretty good, he's pretty good.
So Jackie's Warriors in this race.
Yeah. Okay, that's the end of that
segment. Let's move on to the next race.
You want to give any notes on anybody else.
I think the only other horse that's interesting in that race
because they've made him into a sprinter and he's won.
His last two is nigh traffic 23. He's going to be 6 to 1, you
get, I read, I don't know that he wins, but if you're trying to
if you To pick off some money for an exactor Trifecta.
It might be night traffic. That helps you out there, okay?
But Jackie's Warrior looking really, really strong.
I just, I, at this point, like, you can be smart, or you can
like, gamble, if you want to gamble beat Jackie's where I get
it. That's fine.
Go do that. That's you.
I'm trying to tell you who, I think's going to win.
I mean, you guys think Jackie's, where is one of the top horses
in training right now in training?
There's no, there's no question and it frankly.
It's six furlongs on the dirt is there anybody but are than Steve
asmussen? I mean, I don't think there is
and so that's that's that nigga. And we would assume the Jackie's
Warrior when it comes to the Breeders Cup would probably
since the model is a to turn race at Keeneland is that
correct? The bile has a well we're going
to Del Mar there going. Okay, let's get him.
Yeah you're right and it's a plan on being there.
Don't you? I do plan on being there.
Sorry, it is to turns, right? All right, so two terms that.
And so, you know, the Sprint race is more likely.
I would think we're Jackie's, Warrior will end up in.
I think he would. Anyway, I, you know, I don't
know. It's a short Sprint though,
right? It's like found a Long's.
He won the Churchill Downs. Is a seven for a longer.
At Churchill, he won the true north of Belmont which is just
shy of its six and a half. I think he's not a minor man.
No he's not a mind reader so he'd be a little bit in this
print. All right, so that's the
quickest handicapping thing we've ever done it.
I tried to try the elongated as much as I could.
You want me to read the form and then again just say Jackie's
Warrior. Yeah.
All right. So let's go on to the Jim Dandy,
which of course, is one of America's great race has been
around forever for Ver, wherever, and we're going to see
the return for of, we're going to see the we're going to see.
I think this is a very interesting race just because
there's only five horses in this race but we're going to see
we're going to see some of these three roads come back and we're
going to just kind of see if they got what they got.
You know? I mean I don't know.
I mean we obviously you know what I'm gonna make the
Vanderbilt handicapping a little bit longer, you ready?
Yeah, there's no show wagering in the, in the, in the
Vanderbilt. Oh, six horses.
You know why? Why?
Because there are minimum payout requirements in New York for
show bets, Jackie's Warriors in that race and there would be
guys putting million-dollar show bets on Jackie's work, okay?
It's okay that he's like, no question.
That's what that is. Try to make 50 Grand like a
quick 50 G's, like that's what it is.
So there's no show wagering just because Jackie's whereas in that
race, that's remarkable. So I'm Endeavor, I've never seen
that before. I don't think close now with six
horses. No, no, no way my only thought
Our this is for three-year-olds and we're going to see epicenter
come bags and and come back. Tommy ports in this race early
voting. There is show bets here, there
show, buzzing this one horses. There's a lot of questions to be
answered to me, Louise, in this race.
Who's going to answer them? I think you.
I think you go with either epicenter or early voting here.
I just don't know where zanon fits in with everything here.
I think he ran one really, really good race in the
Bluegrass. You.
And I don't like the Bluegrass as a predictor for the Kentucky
Derby. I don't, I also don't know how
much of a predictor for good three-year-old success.
It is so, I'm going to throw him because of that. 221 Flavia
Pratt, Chad Brown, probably stupid, early voting man, it
reminds me a bit of CyberKnife. So if we're going to get another
CyberKnife this weekend, like we had in the Haskell, we're going
to get it here in the Jim Dandy with early voting epicenter.
At some point is going to break through this horse is going to
win again and this would be the spot that he would do that.
I think Tawny Port has had his moment.
I think it was by one. So for Y tu barrio in the Ohio
Derby. I think that's what kind of
horse he is. And that is a great kind of
horse to have. He's made over seven hundred
thousand dollars. They bought it for four hundred
thirty thousand dollars. You wipe your hands.
That's a great. That's a great horse.
He's a sudden Pioneer of the Nile.
He's going to breed all the things are working out for that
horse. He's just fine.
But this is going to be an epicenter early voting thing and
the good news is there's a single in the next race, as
well. So there's a really cheap pick
three to be had here. Are you going to give that out
right now? I am because I don't have to do
this one for the sheet those Just be clear Jackie's were just
single. Yes.
And then we're going to go early voting epicenter here before
here. And then the twelve of the next
race is capensis who won on debut 91 speed figure over a
mile and a sixteenth of Belmont on the turf.
That's impressive. Jose Ortiz, gets them out again
for Todd Pletcher horses coming, bad at back and non one company
I think by far, a two million dollar purchase at the Qibla.
September sale at 20, Ronnie sort of tap it out of an
unbridled song. Mayor, this horse is set up to
be a monster going forward. The turf getting him ready for
some of those steaks later in the summer.
Look for capensis to romp in the next race.
So that pic 3, by the way, is 4, then 2 4, then 12, 1 dollar
minimum, pick threes at Belmont, excuse me at Saratoga, that Ira.
So two dollar b, a two dollar bet and then just crank it up
from there, I'll probably play it for either 10 or $20, 10 or
20 base, I mean, what would that pay if the head it's a two
dollar to Dollar Bet. I'd like to 2131 that kind of
thing. So, three bucks.
A dollar. Yeah, yes, that's right.
That's why you play for 20 or 40 dollars, something like that.
Yeah, so be not to be fair. That's a that's a non to lifer
race in the last leg. So people might might try to
beat capensis in that race. Maybe not, but, you know, I read
is going to be on a different horse.
You know, you know, Flavia is going to be on a different
horse. People might be betting around a
little bit on that race to be. I think there's a chance that
you can hit that sequence and hit it for a pretty good price,
okay? And then you eat, you hope,
maybe the money spreads out, you know, I think xanthine is the
one that is to me, that the question in the gym Danny's,
going to be answered. No, I think people are going to
put money on Sand into I think, that's exactly right.
And so, or they're going to try to, you know, it's a 5-horse
field. So they're like, I'll just use
all of them, right? That's not, that's not the way
to go. I'm not on this one.
That's how we're gonna lose money.
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, but he is because I agree
with you Louis. Like, we've never liked the
winner of the Bluegrass in the Kentucky Derby, but he ran a
pretty good Kentucky Derby. I mean, it's not he came in To
me. It was he did wouldn't like you
look terrible and sure behind epicenter behind epicenter who
you know and we know epicenters coming back here we haven't
scenes and on since we don't know, really what's been going
on with them or anything like that.
So you know, just to kind of get in a sense of where that horse
goes from here to me, that's probably where the biggest
questions are. I mean, epicenter could probably
finish second this racing probably still show up in the
Breeders Cup Classic. I don't think anybody would
would think that's crazy, right? You know, I I also think that
with this 30 class, we're going to see a lot of these three
roles in that Clark handicap. Oh yeah.
Who decided not to even try the Breeders Cup or, you know, the
the money wasn't there. They want to run in a race in
October, something like that. Yeah, no, it'll be interesting.
I yeah, Clark this year, it really, it worries me because
the older, the older dirt crop over to turns isn't the best
it's ever been. I worry about a little bit this
year, actually. Well, depends, if you put flight
line in that older dirt, crop or not.
Well, he's not going to run in the Cartman now in the Clark.
No. But I mean was not got it right
after a month. I mean I don't know if your time
at the Clark. Yes, yes you're right, no
question about it so. Well thanks again to green
sheets for just all the great support that they've been for
this show and and go check it out, I really yeah.
So you know I'll have a late sequence at Del Mar in the sheet
this weekend. You're kicking yourself.
After last week's Principe car GNN a little bit?
Yeah hopefully people spread a tiny bit more than I did or just
ignored my advice of One race with such as people because the
rest of it. I mean I was like, yeah,
CyberKnife. You have to put him in.
People are like cyberdyne. Yeah.
Who's CyberKnife, what are we doing here?
No, no siren. I didn't win.
And so, yeah, that was not a real Force.
Good Louis being the Baseball Hall of Fame if you can before I
would be Josh Gibson. That's right.
Yeah. So all right, well, we're going
to wrap the show up. Up here.
Anything else you want to add? No, I think that's it.
Just jealous of Matt determine like hey can we do the show
early? So I can get out to Del Mar and
then he just shows up at Del Mar for the ship.
That's a huge Flex. I love it.
Yeah. Well you know, I'm heading out
to San Diego soon. Maybe I'll see him out there, he
knows. But this has been a great day
and we look forward to talking to you next time.
This has been the worst racing happy hour.
