All right, it's time for a special midday afternoon version
of the horse-racing happy hour Mike and awfully turbo and
special guest today is the horse himself and his soul mr.
Joe, there he is, I almost called him mr.
Hassan I was got in trouble so I'm not gonna do it.
What are you? What are you?
Freaking Louis. Alla vodka soda?
No, the day at 1:00. Look this this whole show is
butter is just a stick and I have to keep the streak going
but by the way, we had this whole conversation and that
listen, mr. Coach rub is dead.
So you can admit this freely about cheap beers, we drank in
college, what was the cheap beer?
The Dan Issel drink in college. It was called Falls city.
Oh yeah. All said he was still around.
Yeah, yeah, it's been revived and it's much, much really good
now, yeah, college. But it was awful bad.
So, you know, Mike Pratt didn't bring anything from Dayton.
That was special to Ohio or anything like that and you know,
none of that. Every every town up and down the
Ohio River had its own version of Fall City and they were all
terrible. That was it obviously not in
season, but you know after he was 21 and outside of season,
the Fall City was the drink of choice for doing this.
Well, there it is. All right, well let's let's get
going. We're hoping have another guest
joining us here soon. We'll see if it works out.
We got a lot to talk about a lot of handicapping today on what I
think, is a great day of racing on Saturday, Louis, but probably
the most overrated race of the year.
Is the Travers, why? I mean, I don't even think it's
like my, it's not even my top three races at want to see on
Saturday on that card on the card.
Well, I disagree. I think the feels really good.
We'll get there when we get there.
Okay. Well, and again outside of are
get recent history, their winter, the Travers.
Really hasn't done anything or meant anything or, you know, you
had a couple horses that have gone on to win races after the
Travers, but it's usually they've raced 12 times and they
won two of them. I mean, it might, it might not
be a race of Continued success. But it is a usually because
favorites do lose the race. Very often.
It usually ends up being a good wedding, rings.
Yeah. The graveyard of Champions for
that that Mantra whatever I think what makes this Trevor.
So interesting is I don't think you could name a horse for
three-year-old Championship. I think whoever wins this race
is the three-year-old champ very well could be.
I mean, especially in this case, you know, I was looking at
something like people were comparing this as to being the
third most Even at three year old race of the Year, behind the
Derby in the Belmont, historically not just this year.
So I Louis loves the Preakness. I guess my question is, which
one's more important? The Travers of the Preakness in
the horse racing calendar, a great question, you know, they
only call you a classic winter if you win one of those first
three races and and Dan knows a lot more on the British side
than I do but I would tend to say that winning The Traverse in
many people's minds is more important than winning.
The Preakness that I would agree.
I would agree with that too, because you're at a time of the
year where, you know, some of the late developing
three-year-olds, who miss the Triple Crown are coming into
play. So I if the Travers over the
pregnant and that would actually go back to my, I mean, the one
Travers that I'll just never forget, was the coming-out party
of arrogate. I mean, I was like and then we
got to see. That was the most recent Recent
Travers wonder that actually developed into just this awesome
horse for that we got to enjoy and when are you came out and
had that performance and set the record and all that stuff?
It was. It was incredible.
So, by chance. Do you know who won the first?
What was the name of the horse? That won the first Travers?
Boy, no idea. No, I will put you.
It is the name is visible right now on the screen.
Going to go with happy. No, it's Kentucky.
Oh what's his name was? Kentucky and was actually owned
by mr. Travers.
So there you go. That was the big toe that very
first hundred and fifty 350 third running if I'm not
mistaken, the Travers is this weekend.
So let's talk to about what happened last week in Saratoga,
and we will start with nest in her.
Unbelievable performance in the Alabama.
Zach, let's go ahead and run that footage.
I was extra into their yeah, push the ones of the twos and
just takes a little bit, you know.
Now secret hope now moves into second, she's Keen has dropped
out of it, gerrymander is next goddess of fires on the extreme
outside and the fail is in the stretch and it is Nest who is
asked for more and she is responding here.
Nest has a for Lake lead secret open.
Second here is Nest. I change pouring it on here in
the strike. She is at the top of her class
Nest Wings, they Alabama like five rights secret oath was
Second goddess of fire finish there.
All right Dan that was a pretty impressive performance thereby
Nest. Yeah, we talked at the Travers,
naming the three-year-old Champion cold, I think Nest just
wrapped up the 33 year old Champion, Philly with that
performance, it'll be interesting to see where they go
next. If they trainer up to the
distaff at Keeneland or if there's a race in the interim,
but this Philly just keeps getting better and better.
And better Louis? Yeah, the only thing I would say
she top some top 10. Dirt horse rankings this week
like ncra and like different stuff.
People. Stop stop.
She's running against three year old Phillies, that's why it
looks like that. It's okay, like she's great.
She's great in that class, and that's that's what Johnny
Borrell said on the call the call there, she's at the top of
her class. Yes.
That class the three-year-old Philly class, there's nothing
wrong with being at the top of the three year old Filly class
but putting her ahead of flight lighted, other horses.
I mean settle down. Yeah, that's a little.
We don't need to be doing that. That's a little extreme.
Yeah. And and I wanted to shout out, I
was alerted to that by Marcus Hirsch.
From a Marcus Hershey's Mark raysh Marcus hurts robot from
the drf Twitter. I've been like, yeah people
settled out. We don't need to be doing that.
I mean she's obviously an incredible Philly now, I think
Dan's point, you know, Louis used to talk about this a while
back that the especially with the three-year-olds the layoffs.
If you were to train straight up into the Breeders Cup, the
layoffs tends to not work in your favor.
Typically, like getting that September race is kind of
important or early October race, even it looks like they're going
to try to point her at either the spinster or the beldam in
early October. But I mean, why not though?
Why not give her a shot against the boys and maybe one of those,
you know, Midwest Derby races that happens in September if you
want to just to get her on the track.
Yeah, I think the spinster probably makes the most sense.
It'll give her a chance to run against older mayor's in the
spinster. We know that she that she loves
Keeneland. I happened to be in the
grandstand the day that she won the Blind.
And she just jogged in that race.
And so if they do runner between now and the Breeders Cup, I
would guess that the spinster is probably where she'll be, you
know, they went six weeks Belmont to Coaching Club of
America Oaks and then they went a month to the Alabama.
So I think I'm with you Mike. I think that's a bit too much
for her to take that much time off going into the distaff.
And then I think what, Dan just said to Spencer, makes the most
sense for her and And of course, if you're there, you've already
moved her first off to Spencer being a great one and not a
great to like the bill diem, which is always good for
breeding purposes, but being a Keeneland known.
The breeder codes can be a Keeneland, the spinster and and
getting it's probably makes more sense to leave her to go gets
older female horses than it does for her to travel going, it's
voice. Yeah.
And we have to remember to she's already a three-time grade one
winner, so I the grated the low stakes that she's running, a
sure step, they need to think of it as prep for the distaff, not
worry about what the greater level of that races, okay?
So there it is. Then let's go on to our next
performance that we talked about and we saw hottie when the Lake
Placid, go ahead with that one, sack But the Moonlight, how
being asked to pick it up and eminent Victor is at the back
and the field. Now heads from with Jorge,
dolce's L, looking for a way through consumer spending, is
there on the outside and with the Moonlight is kicking in out,
in the middle of the course, here comes with the Moonlight,
Here Comes dolce's L, the trying to get to hottie it is Hardy
still there with the Moonlight, on the outside, they're coming
on for the finish and it is honey to win the alright Lee,
what were your early impressions?
This race, the Dan was right and I was wrong and that that was my
entire pick five right there. That was it that race?
That was it? No.
We haven't seen a ton of that at Saratoga this year.
So it was interesting to see the get out front, stay out front on
the turf course, we're even seeing more from off the pace in
the dirt races as well. So I think that plays into how
you have to look at the Saturday card as well.
I mean, perfectly rated, when they got to the half Dan, what
was it like for 38 and 40 and threes up like that and just
wasn't very fast. You thought, okay, if you got
the horse off, right? You might feel pretty good here.
And that's exactly what that about well.
And, you know, you have to look back to a two year old form of
the choose. One of the top, two year old
Phillies in the country last year.
And it was it made sense. She she looked like some speed
of the race and when when you can back it down that much and
you're a good Philly to start with that, that really puts the
ball in your Board yellow. I think it's an interesting
point because in this race knowing that there was really no
tactical speed up front speed the fractions actually got
quicker as the race went on and whereas if you know typically if
you have that horse, that's going to go out to the front set
that toward pace of front you mean that's obviously not
usually the case. Yeah there wasn't even a 23 and
four or you know like a forty seven and three something like
that. None of that.
I mean it was a full second slower than that.
So yeah that pace it's just going to be slower and you can
Get off grunts a yeah that felt that final fraction of that.
Race was the fastest fraction of the entire race.
So, there you go. Hey, yeah.
I want to mention one thing that's not on the show sheet
because I like to just upset Louis as much as possible.
I'd and I'm sure that's something that you'll grow into
and just want to like you get world, didn't you?
No, no, he was, he just, he's just tapping into his ability to
try to get a reaction out of you.
And, you know, but I will say it is one of the pleasures of life.
Just going to direct you know get some sort of say it Mike
anyway bothering me. Churchill came out with their
with their September and October, I'm sorry, September
November cards and no Turf racing in September not I don't
think you're surprised. Are you Louis know based on what
we saw in Arlington million day? That is not a tear of course
that is ready for any kind of normal schedule and I think I
was looking at the email from darrenrodgers the other day and
it was something like they're Dan like three Turf Stakes total
in November. I mean, I really Slim card or
slim a flip book that way as far as the different Stakes that
will be taking place. By the way, how about this for a
trivia question? How many grade ones are going to
be run at Churchill Downs, between September and November?
Greg ones grade ones. I don't think there's any are
there. Okay, so 04 Dan, how many for
you Mike? I'll go one.
It is one and that's the one I'm gonna go with what's not the
Clark. It is the clerk.
It is a Clark. Okay?
Folks, a good one. It was the Stephen Foster that
got downgraded to Great to house the.
By the way, that makes no sense, right?
It doesn't matter. Yeah.
Both of those are great ones. It's not even a question, right?
And if you had to move, one of them down to be a great to, to
me would be the Clark before the because the Just kept horses of
run earlier in the month. Yes, correct, yeah, yep, I do.
Yes, yes. Yes, I just makes no sense
whatsoever. On that.
The mrs. Revere is it is a grade 2 to
kill Chuck. I didn't know this.
The Kentucky Jockey Club for two-year-olds is a grade two.
I thought that's a great one. I'm sorry, that's, yeah, that is
a great one of great ones. As far as two-year-olds are
concerned. And then the Golden Rod, which
is 42, year-old Phillies is a grade 2 to me, again, that's a
great one that you get great horses on there.
And in the, in the September, meet the Lucas Is a grade to
everything else is a great through your listed.
So it's unfortunate to you because I think again with the
Breeders Cup being at Keeneland they had an opportunity to get
horses in Kentucky early. Yep.
And has some pretty nice fields and some but I'm worried about
this Turf course in general. I mean like are we going to get
it? Is it going to have to get
ripped up and start over again? I mean what do you think?
Dan Mike I agree with you. 100%. What's going on here?
They they spent ten million dollars.
To replace the turf course. I'm sure they have a very nice
irrigation system and they they didn't see it.
They sodded it. And you know what?
At that, Arlington million that was ridiculous.
I mean there there was more kick back off of that Turf course
then there was nothing on the dirt course, so I don't know and
the grass was supposed to flourish in hot.
Hot weather and none of those things have happened so I
wouldn't be surprised. You're absolutely right.
If it's some point, they don't have start all over with that
Turf course. I just would be to me.
It's like it's interesting because we're talking about the
turf at Churchill Downs but the same time and I don't know.
When's the last time you were out of Valhalla, Dan Valhalla,
completely redid every blade of grass on that course, they
completed that I think in the spring, but they spent the time
and it was How they methodically went through it.
Like we know that there are people in this area and there's
experts to understand our dirt, our soil, our climate that can
put in a Turf, depending on what the sport is.
Make sure drains I just don't understand like makes me wonder
if who they really went after to consult and make sure that this
whole thing went off without a hitch.
It's it's mind-boggling to me that they can get this wrong and
I don't think they're going to race on the chart for November
Billy. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and
say it right now. I, you have to start thinking
about Derby Day next year, at this.
Yeah, yeah. I think that's absolutely where
the the emphasis needs to be. I'm just looking at this from
Darren and the stakes that are supposed to be on the turf in
November, our the River City which is a grade 3 so they can
mix that one. The Cardinal which is a grade 3
so they can mix that one. The mrs.
Rivera is a great to. That's the 300.
Dollar race on Clark day and then they're supposed to be the
Commonwealth Turf which is the closing day on the 27th.
So it's also a grade 3 so they're I mean they're all great
threes except for the mrs. Revere I just I don't know man I
wouldn't be surprised if either they don't race on the turf or
those four races are the turf races.
Little partner always been a grass race.
I think I ran a filly in the Cardinal one year.
I don't remember that it was on the grass.
You know what? I don't know the answer to that.
I will look real quick here but I cardinal Steaks are no.
Thank you, Aquabase, by the way. Shout out to the naira Facebook
page for their replays that we had earlier.
Always, no, it's not, you can't even it was, I don't know that
it was a graded Stakes before, Dan to be honest.
But no, it doesn't show up as a as a graded Stakes on Aquabase,
so I don't know the answer your question.
Okay. All right.
All right. So we also got some some
happenings going on with the HRC in the baffert appeal.
Going on right now. There's our boy.
Ron flatter putting in work. Put those articles out.
Making sure there was informed with what's going on.
Louis, why don't we do this last?
And you want to go and handicapped now?
Yeah, in case Tim jumps on and then we can we're hoping that
that we're hoping to have another special guest who's
would be a great person to chime in on this?
So we're going to go ahead and go on to our Green Sheet racing
handicapping segment of the day, of course screen.
She racing is your place to get all your picks for this weekend.
You listen to the show. Show you look what they have in
Green Sheet. You can go on Green Sheet and
listen. If you want to know who Louis
most likely winners by the way, Louis, have you done with your
most likely winners? That one is my best segment so
far. I've only missed one so far.
Yeah. And then if you want to bet, I
would go ahead and bet for the favorite.
He's against. If he puts out there that he's
against favorite. Let's go ahead and say that's
also a most likely winner. I mean there's different ways.
I mean the favorites are all very likely to be right there.
I mean like is epicenter the one you go against because it's the
Traverse and there's an upset usually and I mean, you know,
there's a lukewarm favorite in one of the the turf races in
the, excuse me, in the personal, not the person in the Sword
Dancer but like would we be surprised if they know Brian and
Ryan Moore come over and pick off a grass race at Saratoga?
The answer is no and so, you know, that kind of thing.
So I mean like it's this is probably the hardest week.
I've had to pick against a winner but they go.
Oh that's also the course Louise.
Going to give a multi re-sequence what Sam all teary
sequences in the Green Sheet this year.
This was this week is the all Stakes pick for ending in the
tremors so we will get three out of four, right?
And it'll be perfect. Hey, I'm just dog.
And I'm Dan just like, you know, now Louis does a great job with
that. Seriously.
Like I give him a hard time because we're buddies.
But listen, it's a great way to just make sure that you get all
the information so you can get your bets out there and
hopefully have a good day with racing.
So, Retracing.com, get your Saturday edition, get them for
every day, you know, and Green Sheet racing.com as well, you
can check out all of their stuff there.
They have a subscription programs and lots of different
things going on. Where, you know, you can get
every track that they cover and they'll throw them together for
you. It's really, really love it.
All right let's start with this this great day of steaks racing
again at the spa and we're going to start with the Bolton Spa,
the only great to on the card. Everything else is a great one.
This is a mile and a 16th on the turf.
Or Phillies and mirrors, four year olds and up, four hundred
thousand dollar purse is on the line, Dan will start with you.
Look at the Ballston Spa dirt start with Louis.
All right, we're gonna start with Lily.
This is the grade 3 list of grade twos that I've ever seen.
I mean like like fluffy socks is in this field.
I gotta jump onto equities real quick too because the early part
of the car does not have odds on it yet on our version and so if
you're at your best when you You Capital odds.
That's all. Yes, that's fair enough.
And so I mean, what I was, I mean, I'm looking at technical
analysis here. Chad Brown, Jose Ortiz aboard,
you know, hitting the two out of three at Saratoga is hit the
board all three times. Yeah.
Who's this last timeout by only like that have in the Diana in
that grade one? Right comes back here is going
to be plenty, good for the distance.
Frankly was closer at a mile and a sixteenth, a mile and an
eighth, excuse me, Adam on the 16th and she was in Milan in a
so we don't have to Oh, that extra half for a long here.
I agree with you that, if you're going to use one horse here,
it's probably technical analysis, just sort of a warning
line, even money on technical analysis.
And so, very likely there. I think the horse that I can
never figure out, that is going to give me a headache.
Whenever she wins is Fluffy socks and it's going to be with,
I read, and it's just going to be because of the pace
breakdown, and she gets to pick up the pieces late.
But, you know, if we see a little bit of a repeat of what
we saw in the Lake Placid last week, this could be where
technical analysis gets out front.
Jose Ortiz rates are well and Just get to the Finish Line
first. Yeah, I agree to a technical
analysis is my pick in this race, you know?
It's hard just like you go back to hottie.
Yeah, last week when Brown has over half the field, it's real.
It's really hard to handicap because you don't know what,
what instructions he's going to give to the jockey, but these
other fillies in here, just to inconsistent for me.
I'll pick technical Was just want to make sure that Louis
knows that I did not make a joke about Chad Brown haven't had the
feel because it would be insensitive right now.
So, let's move on. Then to the for go, we're going
to start the grade ones off with the for go, which is a 7 for a
long Sprint, race for four year olds and up and listen, Jackie's
Warrior is here, is there much more to talk about?
No, no, you just blew you understand that there is a
visual visual aspect of the show, but you shaking your head,
we cannot hear the rattle. You got to me, I'm just waiting
for you to tell me why, baby? Goat is awesome because you love
Star Wars because I love Star Wars.
Yeah, so yeah, that's it. So, Jackie Ward Jackie's Warrior
here. No, seriously.
No, serious threat to Jackies Warrior, I'm not in my mind.
Play this, how do you play this bet this race in if you're just
playing the spaces? So I think I think the real
opportunity. Actually is you start with race
for in the in the Ballston Spa you single technical analysis,
you single Jackie's Warrior here and then you try to find two or
three horses you like in the next two races.
And you play it for a buck and a half two bucks, something like
that. And play a twenty dollar ticket,
$24 ticket, something like that, and hope that it pays.
You know, you get those two horses up front when it pays it,
you know, pays on a box, you get 45 and want anybody that kind of
them, So, yeah, there's a word that in to meet ya to me.
I'm I'm, I'm a horizontal or vertical player anyway.
So I like pick fours and pick fives to me.
This is the most, this is the best better the day.
This this is the most likely winner on the whole card.
I don't see how Jackie's Warrior gets be.
So I mean there's a lot of people who would just say, hey
Google has put a huge amount to win on this and we might only,
you know, put down 200 and get 225 back.
But to you all, is that ever worth the risk?
I mean, this is still horse racing things, do happen.
Yeah. I think in this company Jackie's
workers so likely I mean just so so likely to win 5 for 5 at
Saratoga to horse. Just, I mean, I don't know, I
don't know that I so I don't that's not how I I'm not, I
don't get what that way at all. Not trying to get the 1210 sort
of number, our boy driving that right though, if I'm doing that
with Jackie's Warrior, that's a show bet that mean, because
then, if we're talking one to 10, 12, 15, something like that.
Well, I'll be off. Yeah, I'll just take right.
Yeah, yeah, I think that's, that's the play right?
If you're getting just look at this one race, right?
It's Tim on. He is not okay.
He just texted me. So hopefully they'll be here in
about great. All right, so the the eighth
race is a seven, furlongs Burns. Well, this is the Jerkins, the
allinger, Alan h. Alan Jerkins memorial for
500,000 dollars. This is a three old race again.
A three-year-old Sprint and I know we're going to get a horse
here that Louis loves. So Louis tell us why Jack
Christopher is going to lose this race.
All your hope. If you're trying to beat Jack
Christopher here is that he's coming back off of a to turn
race in which he exhausted himself.
That's the hope the evidence against that is how fast he's
been working while freezing and so he seems to be in really good
Fitness at the at Saratoga working there.
All of the training times makes sense for him to jump back,
shorten up to 22 one, turn which Chad Brown does route to Sprint
at 24%. It's one of his best angles.
Even for a guy that does these things really well.
He's also really, really good given horses about a little more
than a month off. He's giving jack russell for
that kind of layoffs. I think this is another one
where you push the button and you walk away.
Even though I do like a horse like gone, I And I think like a
creative accretive is like a sneaky good horse in here.
You know, that's a, that's a big Keeneland, September sale, a
practical joke, but you know, God is a Gunrunner.
I prefer to see him go to turns, but he seems that they seem to
have found a thing with him. Where he does like to like to
Sprint. That's kind of interesting,
isn't it? Dan, you know, those those candy
ride kids and grandkids can kind of do everything.
It's a little like into Mischief, right?
You kind of find them all over the place.
Yeah. And I think Horse probably gets
his sprinting ability, more from the fee, mom, out of cowboy Cal,
and how many grade one winners have you seen out of a cowboy
Cal broodmare? But I'm with you Louis, I'm
going to take a chance. I mean, I woud Jack Christopher
in my pic fours and pick fives, but, but I think this is, this
is a maybe a play against a little bit because of what you
said, because you try a Course, obviously he wanted nothing of
the mile and an eighth and so he's not going to probably show,
although his work for great, he's not going to show that that
speed. I'm going to take a chance on
trying to beat him here. Gunite is a grade one winner at
Saratoga, he's 2 out of 3 with a second but the horse I really
like, is that horse on the bottom?
I mean, the the other Chad Brown horse just his At start of his
life. He gets a one-on-one buyers and
only gets beat and neck by gunite.
So I'm going to use all three of those horses in my multiple
race. Wagers.
All right, let's just say, for any chance here?
Loo that actuator actually wins this race.
Do the connections, find the closest, BW, threes and have
dinner, ha ha. Yes, yes.
Okay, good. There might be a little, you
know, celebrate a little bit harder than what they did after
the any integer. We win this interesting spot for
that horse. Yeah, yeah.
I don't, I don't like it, but I don't typically like it either.
I mean, yeah, but it's an interesting.
I like that they're turning Indiana.
Derby purse money into shipping to Saratoga and taking a shot.
I do like that, but but at seven furlongs, I don't know how much.
I just hope the horse loses by head.
All right, you had to really listen to the show to get all
these promises but that's okay. All right, one of them, I think
one of my favorites is of the day, is the amount of the eighth
personal in centigrade, 16 hundred thousand dollar race for
for Phillies, a four year, olds and up.
We see the tresca coming back after which, you know, obviously
she just didn't fire last timeout and in the Phipps.
We got a great field here. I mean, this is, this is, this
is the field, right? Louis.
Yeah. Oh yeah.
I mean if you go top to bottom there's four horses in here that
are just absolutely excellent. Crazy Beautiful has her moments
to. So it's not like You know, she's
a she's a throwaway Philly or something but you know I I think
this card is one, you know, so like Jack Christopher in the
last race Clary. Are right now in this race is in
the best form is and and you have to make a decision in these
tickets. Am I going to lean on horses
like clear year or is this the race?
I'm going against a favorite. And and so to me this is one
where I'm going to use other horses because faster Gutierrez
brings back horses off of a two-month plus layoffs at 42%
recently and a lot of That is actually the success of the true
scope. He knows how to time the horses.
So I think she's got a real shot here.
It's impossible to overlook what search results did in the Molly
Pitcher and at Monmouth like, impossible.
She was great through their own, the two terms.
Yeah, she looked she looked like search results again, so she's
got that for my think she can win and then a low fat is really
22 seconds in a first. This year, the two seconds for
right behind Clary are won by a neck and won by a length and a
half. And so if she can turn the
tables this time it would be It would be possibly here now at
Saratoga. She's, you know, one win, and
two seconds. So it's not like she's getting
blowed out of these races. She has a 99 speed figure it at
Saratoga. So I just I think you have to
use a lot of horses. The only one I'm not going to
use is crazy beautiful. I mean, this is the case where
you could actually get like a 41521 on him out that that
sounds right. Yeah.
It a 5-horse field. That's great.
But what's really interesting is you look at clear and Malla fat
and Stonestreet. Farm bred and raised both of
those horses, they kept Clary. Are they?
How's that for a million fifty thousand dollars to Shadwell.
And last year, Mal of that being the two-year-old.
Our three-year-old Champion, excuse me, you think, well,
maybe Stonestreet messed up there, maybe they sold the wrong
horse. I don't think they did today.
I think Larry here at the real key to this race guys, in my
Mind is the early Pace. You see what?
What search result did due to low trischka in the Ogden
Phipps, they went the first half mile and 40, 45 and change and
you know it if search results going to do that again.
Then neither one of them are going to win and if you let Le
truce Colusa on the lead, she may go all the way.
So the way this race is run the first Smile.
We'll really key. And and, you know, I'm with
Louis, in my multi-race Wagers. I'm using four out of the five.
You got to, I mean, with these four, are you have to?
And like you said, Louis, it wouldn't be unheard of for
Crazy, Beautiful to have a performance and, you know, no
one would be absolutely shocked at that happened.
So, all right. What is he doing with this
camera, Dan? I mean, he is a mess.
Hold on the show, you never know, I don't know because theft
he took his earpiece out, he couldn't hear himself cough rest
of us. Could I think he tried to take
his microphone away from his mouth and just didn't he just
failed? It was that was all it was.
So again it's okay like let Dan wants to come back on and this
is just make fun of Louis time. The entire I'm all in on Dan
being a more permanent fiction horse racing happier so that can
always mute. I know, I have the power to, I
can mute Lou. If we You then just letting you
know that so all right let's move on to the Resorts World
Casino sward dancer I had to do the whole name therefore there's
not a half ounce on the inner Turf.
Course it is a grade one, seven hundred and fifty thousand
dollars purse for four year olds and up.
Hey by the way, Dan you just talked about.
Before I go on, you talk about math, I get going getting sold
the Shadwell for over a million dollars when you went from the
Colonel's to the Nuggets. What was your salary at the
Nuggets? Was your first salary in Denver?
Let's see. That would have been.
It was 125,000. Oh, what year 716, that was the
sixth sixth year, I was in the league, he's making 125,000.
I mean they'll listen Kentucky can't even get a kid to sign
right now for 125,000, you know, in today's dollars That's a six
hundred eighty eight thousand dollar contract.
A damn was doing. Okay.
He was there. He was.
Yeah, cheese would stay, you know, you know what I always
said, I don't complain about a current contracts because when I
was making 125,000 Wilt, Chamberlain and Bill Russell
were probably saying, can you believe that big stiff as making
that much money? It's all relative.
All right, Mama half on the turf.
On the inner turf. If this is the Sword Dancer
Louis, who do you like in this one?
I actually do like broom as one of the top selections here, the
three horse, ain't no Brian and Ryan Moore.
I don't think they ship and ride more.
If they don't think they have an unbelievably good shot here
horses. One going both right-handed and
left-handed is only 24 12 at the distance but runs in nothing but
super high level races. And so I don't hold that against
the horse here. Then I landed on Juju to the one
horse in the second spot. I think.
Almost having a really, really good year for races.
Hit the board in every single one of them, these longer
distance races. You know, they all turn out to
be Pace fests and and trip fests and so you have to get a good
set up of both and a novel seems to be able to adjust the both
and so I'll trust that the keeping Pratt on there is good
did get that final break through the United Nations.
That is one of the toughest turquoise has to win every year
at a mile and three eighths. So, they're going to show that
this horse has never run at the distance that's only a 15th of a
mile off. And so I really trust.
Excuse me, Nathan Mi offer that the horse will be able to get
the distance. Dan, both of those two horses.
How do you how do you say that? Horse's name Louis trip on.
Hang on one second. I got a text with you with Tim
Sullivan. Keep talking.
All right, she met on. Yes, if it was a mile and a
quarter I use him because of his speed and he seems to be the
lone speed in here but At a mile and a half is too far for him.
So I actually I'm going to make a domino, my top pick being a
mile and a half and you know Pratt and brown are hard to
beat. And I'm going to use broom to
because of other things that Louis said, he's a, he's a
first-class horse in Europe, running these distances.
So I'm going to use those to. What do you make of a horse in
this race? With the horse like gufo, who I
think, go phones would include because this is a specialty
distance, right? Yeah, this is this is he wins an
amount of half that's all he does.
What he went beyond that and I also I think there's a bunch of
includes here. So I got five horses three. 1657
is where I went and so I think Brock a got a shot here one last
time out in the Bowling Green at this chair of course.
And so you know I think that if you could get him you know the
extra distance, you can get him to write set up under Iran.
I mean so you get I write you move from Flavin.
And I read, that's not a down. It's not a downer.
Yeah, that's not a downgrade. Yeah, I agree.
That gufo is absolutely a possible here.
Is going to have to get a better trip that he's been getting and
then I agree with Dan. I think Siobhan's another horse
here that can absolutely win. Seems to be a good move since
they did it too many Franco. The horse has never lost, you
know, three runs wasn't was nowhere to be found in the term
classic at Churchill Downs, but back in New York and at Belmont
wins, The Manhattan, the grade 1 because back in the United
Nations finishes fourth, but by less, than two legs.
It's the horse is right there, Chad Brown and Manny Franco.
And something I talked about a lot 31% the last year.
And so that seems to be a combination that really works
and Chad browse not afraid to just go, you know, with whatever
jockey he thinks is best for him at that time and many Franco
seems to be moving into those ranks.
So yes, I ran out of five horses here.
So 3 1 6 5 & 7. All right, so and then last year
in the Sword Dancer just so you gufo did when the sword Last
year, so he is the returning Champion.
All right, we're going to move on the next race is to Traverse.
So what do we what do we do? What do we do?
One of our fun games with that? While we do a Traverse or no
verse A Travers or no. Verse means, meaning, whether
that they have a shot or two, they don't have a shot.
Yeah. Okay.
So again, we'll start off with the what the one horse, which is
CyberKnife. Who's coming off two straight
wins and the Haskell and the mat win for me, he would definitely
be a Traverse. No doubter Traverse and in fact
crabbers for sure. Yeah, I mean, and four of his
last five. If I'm remembering off the top
of my head, it's correct. Was our pick and the Arkansas
Derby? I just the horse.
I think the easiest race in horse racing to draw a line
through the Kentucky Derby and if you draw a line through that,
he should be the favorite in this race.
Let's say we get something crazy that happens worse and Rich
strike doesn't win, cybernaut doesn't win.
The center doesn't win and but CyberKnife finishes second and
epicenter finishes like fourth are we looking at CyberKnife has
a three-year-old of the year? Probably, yeah.
Okay, yeah, Rich strike is the next one.
The only, the second race since the Derby, the course of being
the Belmont, being the other one.
So we haven't seen, which strike and a while.
So it's been since June 11th, he's a no verse for me.
No verse for me, verse and probably.
I mean that poor guy, I don't know what condition book he's
ever gonna fit in, where he's going to win another race.
Mike on our show, we call it bologna.
Well, all I know is that rich Strike should give like 25% of
his Derby. Winning two summers tomorrow
because of summer is tomorrow's. Not in the derby.
Rich strike doesn't win the Derby.
And summer is tomorrow, is not in this race.
So anybody disagree on that. No, okay Ain't Life.
Grand has won two straight. Of course, they've been listed
stakes races in Iowa, which is interesting.
Tyler graphically on a board for the first time here with Ain't
Life Grand. Traverse or no verse Louis.
This is a no verse for me only time running without Lasix the
horse lost by 12 likes and this is considerably better company
than the this Iowa bread has ever been in.
So I will pass. Yes.
I will, I will pass as well that they only race on this horses
peepees that you could point to and say, well, maybe he has a
chance, is he beat some decent horses in the Iowa Derby.
But when you go back and look that race set up perfectly for
him, it was a mile and a sixteenth, they go the quarter
and twenty two and three and a half in 46 and he comes running
late into A very fast pace, no shot.
I would agree. He is a no verse for us.
If and I would breed winds to Traverse that tells you how good
this three-year-old classes, okay?
You know we go back and forth. Is this a good 30 class or in
deep? Or is it just not a good 30
class? Gilded Age would be the next one
up. Gilded Age has 12 times out of
Churchill Downs. Is last time.
We wanted an optional claiming race has taken a substantial
step up here. Here is 0 for 2 at Saratoga.
What does have a second-place finish?
No. Verse for me on Gilded Age.
No verse no verse for me. Anything in these peepees, that
would give him a chance to hit the board.
Yeah. Uphill battle here, for sure, s
and that curling, but ahead of creative Minister if we care
about that. But I will say no on Gilded Age.
That brings us to the next horses Artorias.
Now this one, this is interesting to me and this of
course did be Gilded Age in that curling, but at Aureus chain
trained by At Browns, gonna have Chad and I read in his Corner,
lightly races is only the fourth race for artists is 141.
At Saratoga with that win in the curling taking a huge step up
here. Is this a is this a potential
Rising Star? I'm gonna go Travers.
All right, you know what? I'm gonna have to go Travers to
there from what I've read. These connections have been very
high on this horse from the very beginning.
Paul is silver lining. I don't know if you guys
remember it. Oh yeah, there's no private
purchase by judge mod. And she was a grade one winner,
and they bought this mayor specifically to breed to
arrogate. And it looks like they've got a
nice nice full, I think at a price.
This is a horse that has a chain.
They put her daddy did all right.
Yeah and I we've seen it's might turn out to be one of the more
unfortunate deaths in the in the stallion ring is irrigate and
because his kids are great and Artorias is one of those horses,
Dan mentioned earlier that are risers in the late, your
three-year-old year. This could be a horse that we
see picked this one off and then go to Belmont and pick something
off. And I don't think Chad gets I
read for this race for no reason.
So, Oh yeah, I'll say I'll say Travis for sure.
All right, we're gonna move on Joel Rosario is a board
epicenter epicenter. Again winner of the gym and
dandy last timeout has yet to win a great one.
I'm just gonna throw that out there and I'm not the biggest.
Steve asmussen fan and big settings, but it'd be stupid for
me, not to say, Traverse in this one that he has this ourselves a
shot. I think this race is more
important for epicenter than it is for any other horse in this
race. I would agree.
This is the chance for him to really I mean you know he's a
son of not this time it's you know that's that's still a
seventy five thousand dollar breeding fee.
So it's not like he's a you know he's not I don't know he's not
it's not a son of a you know it was our horse last year Suite on
the ladies you know it's not it's the one of these like a
Florida bread for 2,500 bucks. This is a seriously bred horse,
Giant's Causeway, line candy right?
On the bottom like but this is his chance to cement what he's
going to be as a stallion because If he wins this race, I
don't think we see him as a four-year-old.
And and so, I think he has the most at stake.
Here it is interesting that all of the chatter about the rides
that he's gotten from Joel Rosario and there's been no
wavering at all and who's going to be riding this horse?
And so I think he's absolutely Travers.
I think he's the win. Mike, I don't know if we have a
candy cried mayor. Yes, old to not this time and so
I'm going to be Cheering. And you know, Lou you mentioned
is study 75. Just yesterday I was at the
leading spares on the, on the sire list and he is at 75.
He is the lowest. I think of the top nine, sires
in the country, and don't be surprised.
If this horse isn't standing for 125, 150, Next year because he
has had an unbelievable year for his oldest for his oldest
Prodigy just being 4 years old. So I thought this was the best
horse in the derby. The race fell apart, he gets
beat by an 82, one shot. I thought he was the best horse
in the Preakness and he got a very questionable ride from
Rosario I think that his his jim-dandy.
I like that. He's had a He's over the track.
This is my best bet of the day. All right, we're going to move
on to a horse. That does have a grade one when
it was the grade one, Preakness winner, and beat epicenter in
that race and then lost epicenter and the Jim Dandy.
So this is early voting is this a Traverse or no?
Verse and I'm not going to start because I'm not sure yet look.
Okay. You know this is a great Test
example, would you rather so sandins?
The next course, we're going to talk about xanthine this year,
one the Bluegrass and his Maiden race early.
Voting won his Maiden race, Withers and the Preakness, let's
say that zenden wins. The Traverse.
Would you rather halves and ins resume or early voting is resume
Vanden wins the Traverse? I would rather have Zane dance
resume. I say the same thing, okay, it
was third in the derby. He didn't run Preakness.
He won the Bluegrass I'd rather have zenden.
Okay, fair enough. So for me early voting is
absolutely to Traverse. This is the kind of horse that
can win the Traverse. It's pretty unusual that a
horse, gets out front stays off, right?
I think we all remember American pharoah having a lead and then
just getting passed in his in the 20, Seas me the 2015,
version of this race. And so, I, it is going to be an
upset if he ends up winning. I would rather, for example, I
think, What do I want to spare? I think I'd rather have Artorias
than early voting in this race. Hey, yeah, I think, I think that
horse that beat American pharoah is a horse named Keen eyes, he
Tyson. Yep, who is The Sire of Rich
strike, okay, I like that 7,500 bucks for that one.
I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go numbers on the
early voting and I and the reason why is I'm big about, you
know, how horses? Take the certain tracks and did
not look great in the Jim Dandy, that was not a huge field
finished. Fourth.
That was it was it five? Horses are six horses in that
field Louis. It was a small field the
jim-dandy. Yeah.
For or so he was dead. Last in the Jim Dandy got beat
by two horses in this race. I don't, I don't see.
There's gonna be a come back here.
I'm gonna go no burst if I wasn't doing them all to raise
ticket and had a slim down. I'm taking early voting off my
ticket. I would definitely use Artorias
before I would use early voting. Yep, I agree.
That's why I'm going to say, no vote. /.
No. Love for the Preakness winner.
All right. Which brings us to sandin, which
is, this is going to be another interesting one, the final horse
in the field. This again, did when the, the
grade one Bluegrass Stakes, but has not won.
Since, of course, only two races lost in the derby, came in third
and came in second in the jim-dandy.
Does he get back on track here and when the Traverse no verse
or Traverse there Louis Traverse.
It's amazing. If you look at this race, the
bottom three horses here, epicenter, 2.2 million early
voting 1.3 million sanded, 1.1 million, in earnings, all three
of those horses. I mean, just having incredible
years to this point Rich strike, of course, over 2 million in
CyberKnife. Now, over a million and a half.
I just think Zan and if he gets the trip, he can win.
But that's that's asking a lot in this field.
I don't think he's going to win, but I think that he can No verse
for me, this horse can't be the epicenter.
He he's run against him three and think of him yet.
So I'm I don't see this horse crap first.
Okay, let me ask a question. I'm I'm really in the middle of
this. I'm think I'm leaning towards
no, verse Chad Browns. Obviously, this is another case,
where Chad Browns, got what? How many horses in year?
Three, three. Three horses in this race.
Yeah. And he Both irad and Jose and
and flavoring. Do you now?
I guess they were all staying on their horses though.
Right. I'm trying to I'm trying to
they're all staying on their horses.
Yeah you're trying to find an angle that isn't there.
Yeah. Yeah.
All right, you're exactly right. I'm gonna go.
No verse was the end and I need him to show me.
He could do it. But yeah, I'll go with Dan I'll
go with. No first.
I think the eighth, the eighth hole for him is fine because
he's going to come from off the pace anyway.
So I think he's in a good spot at CyberKnife.
In the one we talked with, I got with Cam Drummond from the
Herald-Leader earlier about this race.
And it's the only thing that bothers me about CyberKnife is
that he's in the lon. I just don't like him having a
break from their know because he likes to be near the front and
he's going to have to do some work early to do that.
But man, he's shown that. I mean he he looks like his dad,
what? He's going at full speed on the,
on the top of the stretch. I mean, it's pretty impressive.
So so who's your winner? We got no dance.
Winners epicenter. Yep.
Include on this one. I just, I think you just for me,
it was just epicenter and CyberKnife.
Yeah. Just epicenter in CyberKnife
because I do. I, and I, and I think Dan would
admit. Like I said, you had to include
CyberKnife in the hospital and I think people kind of laugh
because that was table, Jack, Christopher, and all these other
horses. And I said, no, no, he's a
gamer. This is a horse that likes to
win and he makes moves at the end when he needs to.
And, and so I'm still, I'm not jumping off the train now,
because that's just, it would be, would be a silly thing to
do. CyberKnife and this is this is
turning into kind of vintage Brad Cox where he's got a horse
that he picks the spots and the training makes sense and, and
all that. And so I think you know, you
keep LaRue aboard. I think it's a very intentional
path with with CyberKnife food I and I know Louise gonna say,
it's only an eighth of a mile more.
Do we start to you know but at some point an eighth of a mile
more becomes like the breaking point of where this horse is
not. I do you know this obviously
teach homework to turn and horse, you know?
Do we have any concerns about whether or not?
It's a classic distant Mountain quarter horse.
Look, I mean, there's a horse in this race that's one for one
lifetime at the distance, r at a 10-1 speed figure.
If you're if you're worried about the distance, man, there's
a horse named Rich strike and here you probably get a good
price. What will Rich strikes odds be
in the on Travers day? Well, that's why I like that.
A lot. That's a good question.
Um, Rich strike is 10:00 to 1:00 in the morning line.
He's the Derby winner. Well, that's a good question.
I'm gonna go, he's, he goes off at 14 to 1.
I'll go ten points higher, I'll say he goes off. 12:36, welcome,
wow, wow. Okay, has he been able at 12:36
day know who have a who will be more of a favorite Artorias or
Rich strike in the oratorio style?
Artwork are? No, I was going to say Artorias
could be third, third choice. Yeah, probably not probably.
But but that's why Rich strikes going to be 12:36.
As you've got five horses in here that people are going to
land on way before they land on Rich strike.
Alright, so there it is. We're CyberKnife epicenter.
And then Dan, and I like, would put Artorias in there as well.
And let's see what happens on Traverse day.
So we're going to move on, then you don't wish to do.
Tell me what we should. Why don't we end this?
And then if we can get Tim we do a 15-minute thing with Tim and
we just put them both up, we can do that or we can just have the
conversation with Dan and then add the add the interview with
him later if we want to do. Okay.
All right, what are you go with that?
Because you know, I'm here with you guys right now and I mean,
it was, I understand it was Dan, essentially, when once a, once
Tim came on, he just wanted to be a Wallflower.
He just wanted to get a comment. Yeah, and you can be a
Wallflower on this show anytime you want.
I don't, I really don't know what I could add other than y
is, and I almost said, why is baffert spending all this money,
but it's mr. Zidane, who's spending all the
money? I'm sure trying to get this but
You know, he served his suspension, he paid his fine.
They're not going to reinstitute Medina Spirit as the Derby
winner. I don't understand the exercise.
What I and I kind of agree. I had I had this thought process
earlier Dan and we're talking about the Bob baffert appeal
case and the conversation here is not whether or not Bob
average good or bad for horse racing behind conversations.
Not even really if he's innocent or guilty either or if he did
something without knowing the consequences, I go back to like
if this was the Olympics We have zero, tolerance the Olympics.
Yeah. And he's like just already like
dismissing the whole concept and when I think of like something
like the Olympics now, we got something now, people bet on the
Olympics but they don't bet on site at the Olympics horse,
Racing's primary thing is it's a it's a wager anything.
You know I go back and just say we've got to have this
Integrity. We've got to figure out as horse
racing, get back some sort of Integrity for the better.
Because the better giving just just the person who, how many
people out there? Probably only bet on the
Kentucky, Derby three bet on one horse race for the entire year.
Yeah, and it's been a complete and total shit show. going back
to maximum security and we've got to somehow if we can't have
the integrity and the bet, Going back to that to this one race
which Matt which has you know could be the thing that gets
people to want to bet on other horse races or could say I'm
giving up the whole thing forever.
I'm never going to do this again.
You know, we've got to figure out.
If number one horse, Racing's got to stop having different
rules in different places, like we got to figure that out
because I agree that any other trainer for any other sport.
Not horse racing would always know exactly what their athletes
putting in their bodies and More so now than when Dan played, but
it's probably even somewhat prevalent.
When Dan played, if and you want to make sure that your athlete
is abiding by the rules. Given what's governing?
But when you have, you know, so many different governing bodies.
It's hard to keep up with it all.
Yeah, so yeah. So I don't know, we'll see what
happens, but I agree. I don't think they're going to.
They're going to change anything.
I feel like we're having they kept on, representing the ground
motion case, it seems like we keep on having the same has the
same judges, the same Witnesses, the same coat, the same, like,
it's all the same, right? So II would be a little more
lenient and give Bob baffert that the benefit of the doubt.
If this was a one-off Mike, but I agree.
He had a Philly guy mean, it was disqualified, from a third
place, finish in the Oaks the year before for the exact same.
Now, it wasn't, it wasn't, as I And a topical application but it
was the same. It was the same drug.
And so, you know, fool me once shame on you fool me twice.
Shame on me. Absolutely.
The other part of this is, and I've mentioned this and I
apologize if you're listening to the show, and you've heard me
say this before he gets out, he gets out on that Sunday when
they're about to announce the disqualification and he looks at
Jenny recent, he says, what is this drug?
Even do eight months after could mean got popped for it.
You knew exactly. Exactly what it is.
You don't you don't have to. It's just I mean throwing
throwing a veteran woman reporter under the bus like that
is just beyond the pale then he goes on all the outlets blames
cancel culture. What, how about you shut the
hell up? I mean like good God, get out
there and say, look, we did not administer this drug in any of
our records. That is not what we understand
here. I wish I could talk right now.
But this is the Kentucky Derby respected so much.
That's the most important race in the world.
We're going to, we're going to, we're going to put up.
I'm sorry, but we're going to put up a wall for a week.
We're going to look into this as deeply as we can, and then come
out with a week later and say, look, it was a topical.
Ointment, and we screwed up fall on the sword and they don't get
it to your benefit to fall on the sword situation.
They don't, they don't have to break up their Barn in
California because they get a 90-day suspension and can in
Kentucky. I think a lot of this has
Because of how what the reaction was so often.
You know, and all of us have kids, you tell your kids if you
do something wrong, just don't lie about it.
Don't just lie about it. Don't make it worse.
It's the line that pisses you off.
It's not what the kid did, right?
That's not what it's, you know, bedford's you know, we talked
about this if it's just an ointment, this is carelessness
and it's not, you know, whatever.
I don't happen to believe that. I think it's more nefarious than
that but you know, I just I think you can't have that
attitude and then expect everybody to just fall at their
knees. When you go, oh it was an
