Alright, welcome to another edition of The Horse.

It's a good idea. I get up every day with our

kids, so it's just this, I don't know.

It's got something wrong. Just always up.

I'm just always, it's all right. How much coffee drinking during

the day? Then I just take a nap today.

Are you drinking a ton of coffee Berry?

No, no, no. I'm I've become much more of a

water guy in my later years and so yeah, folks Jenkins of focus.

At the office. I do.

Yeah. Because I dropped off for free.

But yeah, Kristen drinks all that at home.

So, all right, well, we got a good show today, you know, it's

typically people would say, you know what, there's not a whole

lot going on, because we're just a couple weeks before Breeders

Cup, but there's a lot going on in Pennsylvania.

Louise coughing see, Pennsylvania know Marilyn, I

meant, was it that had a week to man?

I'm telling you, I like I've I've been working late every

night so like it's like I haven't seen my family.

I so I get you. So yeah, let's talk about

Marilyn. How about Marilyn, is that

better than familiar with my second barrel racing home?

I love Maryland. Let's talk about logo

Maryland's. Let's go ahead, become an annual

show for us, man. I like this.

Okay, Maryland militia last year with Dan, getting back into it

today. I love it.

That's great. All right.

We can have Dan on and other times throughout the year to

wish I got better. Damn, we'll talk about New York

Racing. Probably talking about whatever

really we wanted to talk about. All right, let's pull up.

Danny, Elfman Dan's are, did we lose John?

Is he on there? No, he's down there.

Okay, we're just yeah, and John from Piazza.

Is that right? We're pulling up Jonathan.

I tell you right now, you can imagine how you guys I was like,

hey, does he know it's pure sick, but I'm like, you know

yeah sick just get it right? And this is both John and Dan

second appearance on the show. We appreciate you guys coming

back. Listen, you can imagine how

people say, my last name, I mean, I get all kinds of I went

and picked up a pizza. Papa, John's your days like, oh,

like Lord of the Rings Gandalf. The wizard is like, yeah,

thanks. Thanks.

Alexander heard that, one before.

Like here's a, here's a tip getting a raise.

Joke. So, I don't know, you know,

needed, either of you have the 100 thousand dollar, ten cents

super at Keeneland today. I'm assuming, no, cause you're

on these. Are you sure I didn't see that?

Are you serious? Are my commitments but I didn't

happen. Yeah, I'll pull it up.

It was race, seven race. There was only one race.

Me is a fancy Martini. Won the race and I just I wasn't

watching. She won twice at Ellis.

The summer in along with Company.

So it's not like she hadn't been winning and so she winds at 15,

like she was rich Strikers, horse comes in at 35 to 1 and

third place. Horse is, excuse me, 45 to 1.

Wow. So that happens and the city,

the 10-cent, super pay seventy two thousand dollars on a dime.

That's why we on a dime. Someone swept the pool on an 18

dollar ticket, New York City. Wow.

Look at that. All right.

Well let's talk a little bit about what happened to Keeneland

last week. Real quick.

We got we had the Queen Elizabeth, the Second Memorial

race which is this week called Memorial now.

Louis you get that okay we have a little Gina Romantica when go

off in this one so Zach let's go ahead and see that race still

second. I like separates the top two

Gina Romantica along the rail and third now peculiar starts to

swing toward the outside. She's forth now challenging for

third still four legs from believe quarter mile to go.

Is peacock to catch Paris, peacock, leading, Bella Bell,

who moves up on the outside? Here's Bella.

Bella coming after the leader and the kulick tries to join

them Gina Romantica, looks toward the inside.

California Angel is still fifth. Here's Gina Romantica.

Moving through an opening down toward the inside the challenge,

Bella belma, kulick third, Gina Romantica in front Sheena,

Romantica with the leech. He's got a delinked and a half.

She's got it by to, she's got it Gina, Romantica wins the Queen

Elizabeth, the Second Challenge cup presented by Dixie Anna.

All right, little flavor. Pratt right there.

Beating the favorite McCulloch that mean for 268 bucks or

whatever in the turf, Pick 3. So now I'm not bitter about it

at all. That's pretty much why that

horse loss? Chad Brown one, a grade one

Stakes race on the turf especially a working with.

That was just had a great trip, you know, Romantica.

I think she's sold for like seven figures as a yearling and

maybe she was a bit of a disappointment in the first few

races of her career. But that was just an absolutely

perfect trip. So, learned of the trip

Annapolis, got the week before. C'Mon.

Well, we've been talking a lot about on the show lately.

It's like you know if a trainer is got the favorite.

It almost always seems like their second horse that they

have entered in the race right now is the one who's coming

through and pull the upset. Chad, Chad, gone 12 in this

race, you know? Course, you know it's hard to

go. No, go against Chad and irad on

the turf to. So, yeah.

Well, that was your one single, right?

Louis. That was my single in the

sequence. We handle.

Nice little 36 dollar ticket. It was lined up for like 266 or

268 or something like that. How that goes.

We call Hank about three movie, one short Louis, at least, you

always wait till the last leg to, at least you're always,

like, 343 need that fourth leg, you know, whatever it is.

So it's okay, you know, our friends, agreed, she still loved

it. Don't forget straight.

All right, then let's go ahead and move on to the other race of

the day. This we're going out to the Big

A Skims winning. Winning the Sands Point here.

All right. Down at the rail lady baffle is

on the outside, then it is Kenichi.

Who is looking to move up down the inside is spirit and Glory.

Then comes eminent Victor Pizza, Bianca continues to Trail and

now skims has taken over the lead at the top of the stretch.

Exhale, two drops out of it. It is skims in front in front by

two lengths, Vergara on the Chasin second Incomes can he see

on the outside and third followed by spirit and glory and

eminent Victor's? Putting a late run Pizza.

Bianca is on the far outside. It is skims and vegara.

They are 12 coming on for the finish and it is skims and Jenny

Velasquez to win the grade to Sands Point State.

You know, it's interesting when Pizza Bianca pointed to this

race instead of going to the QE2, it was probably a pretty

good sign that that horse wasn't ready for grade 1 company and so

might have been right? I played out exactly for her

that way in this one. I don't think she ran a poor

race. I just think she's not all the

way back and so interesting to see what they'll do with her

this winter. But, you know, I got to say,

man, I've been enjoying the racing at Aqueduct.

I've been doing a really good job, that's been a, it's

actually been a really fun meet. I think it's been really fair

and so well being here at Churchill Downs, we don't get to

see Turf racing career. Yeah.

No, it's nice to see horses on green things.

It's nice. Yeah.

And so I yeah, right. It's don't think we can see a

lot of that. It's Saturday to be great.

I needed Vergara like I needed oxygen and that roof like what?

Like Lou needed his single at Keeneland and after Vergara

handled skims at Kentucky Downs. I was counting my money.

Turning into the stretch because I've seen skims just snatch

defeat from the jaws of Victory. So many times in her life and of

course she beats me in this race.

Should we get his horses? Get better with age of maturity?

Yeah, there it is. So skims, getting looks like her

first Stakes even though what a great steaks are or anything

like that and it's probably the lowest into steaks you can get,

right? So but scams getting their first

first kind of stakes win in the great to be in the u.s. so it

isn't he great too? Yeah.

Great truth confirming, I'll send it.

I don't know why it's not on here.

It's great to say sorry. The thing I wasn't you right,

there is what I'm looking at. Didn't have his great to you.

I apologize. So the first graded Stakes when

therefore skims congratulations to them.

So all right, let's get to our guests.

Louis. Yeah, I'll introduce everybody.

Of course, from Daily Racing Form Dan Dillman.

Who's we talked about this last year?

How many years have you been on the Maryland circuit now?

Well we've been a few years in the Maryland.

Circuit been a drf 24 years but probably about 34 years.

Now in the Maryland, sort of get and loving every minute of it.

Yeah no New York guy down in Maryland.

I don't know how you got the passport punch to sail to stay

at Laurel but here we are. And then job Piazza.

Coos with the Maryland Horse Breeders Association.

He's their Communications guy. John where does a Maryland Horse

Breeders Association? Asian person live given only

metal that you have to live. There's about 10 minutes away

from the office which up in Reisterstown and in tone that's

about 25 minutes. North west of Baltimore.

Okay. Gotta go on about an hour south

of food Hill about 45 minutes. North of also a pretty simply

located - I got it. All right and that's how who's

in with us today and of course you know this is this is the big

day in Maryland in the fall. You know, Preakness day

obviously the spring you have this day in the fall, I wanted

to ask you To about, you know, John you us specifically,

because this is what you're doing, you know.

Now, these State bread programs and their effectiveness, we've

actually had the good luck on this show of getting to know the

forks, the folks up in horseshoe Indianapolis and we've watched

the Indiana program, really Blossom, both frankly on the

Thoroughbred. And on the quarter horse side,

it's been really fun to watch. John, do you think, do you think

it's a large? We talked about this on the show

as well. You know, we're in the Kentucky

bubble, right? We you know we everything's

hunky-dory here people are running for 157 and maidens at

Downs. You know, it's just this, this,

this Fantasy Land of horse racing around here.

But, you know, I've always said, you know, it bothers me when I

see short fields at Santa Anita, that kind of thing.

If horse racing is going to be great, long term, we need Los

Angeles to be a Major League City.

We need New York to be a major league place.

We need Maryland to if not a major league be at least a

really good AAA or, you know, like an ABA to the NBA,

something like that, you know, these kinds of days fields are

packed John. So, obviously, there's something

in the water with this kind of program.

Oh yeah, absolutely. I mean, especially 10 15 years

ago compared to. Now there's really no contest

mean the quality of Berlin dread as of late, has really gone up.

And he's seen that over the past few years have the booze Cup in

2018. Nick's co-host one, juvenile, he

came in second and in 2019. Yeah.

Sharon. When the juvenile fillies tothe

then of course, next go went on his big run and then Aloha West

on the Sprint. So we almost had four straight

through his cups with the Maryland breadwinner.

And of course, for craft compared to 10, 15 years ago,

have, but are quite a bit, got a lot of good stallions now.

Scanning it specially at North, you recently moved all the

operations over from Pennsylvania to Maryland and and

so they have a very good group Stalin.

In fact, they just added a new one.

True Valor is now scanning. Doesn't, look, we're ocean to

experiment the opportunity standing there.

He's Petty. Very good.

First crop so far there's been For 23 years in Pennsylvania.

And now it's come over here. I would work right another good

first crop Stallion and a few others and of course, it's

really showing on Marilyn million day.

Now, think about how about Marilyn million that I was

people saying, oh, how come so many a he's the reason why is in

the middle and million. It's really for Maryland, silent

voices, not Maryland that always has, which is designed to help

our local guys who stand horses here and reduce talent and mode.

Who's you know whose those there's a lot of big Maryland

virtual by big name. Sounds like there's a filly

who's at the Atlantic Sail by Uncle MO.

The Maryland vet who sold for three hundred, twenty thousand

dollars. So you have to stand in Maryland

to be in the main body. The Only Exception is, if the

always drops below 8, but even with just Maryland's, tired

horses, between this 614 horse fields on this Earth six and

nothing below eight. I mean it is absolutely

jam-packed action and and I said, said days like these are

a, a testament to He makes melon racing go around.

Yeah. Dan you've been in that circuit

for a couple years now? I'm sure you've seen even in the

short amount of time you've been there.

The improvements that have happened.

Well, this is a you know I love this program for the Maryland

sire because it gives the little guy that's there every single

day putting on the show an opportunity to compete with big

money. We do see State grid days all

across the country but as John said you will see New York

breads by into mischief and tap it and some of the big names

stallions here. You're going to see the local

Horseman, the local breeders, get a big opportunity to run for

purses. You do have the also eligibles.

The Maryland breads that might not be Maryland side that will

get it if there are scratches, but it is a great opportunity.

And the proofs in the pudding Again, full Fields, great

bedding races and we hope for good weather and a fair race

track and field trips for all. What are what do you think the

the future of this kind of program is John is there is this

you have to help me out here because I don't know the

particulars of Maryland but you know in Kentucky because of the

The historical machines, for example, feeding purses and do

that kind of thing by state law. You know, where there's an

ability in, Kentucky, to Up purses.

And those sorts of things, is there anything that's congruence

or similar to that in Maryland? Yes, oh no casinos at Merlin

facts themselves. However, there is an an

agreement to have a piece of revenue.

From its nose in state, go to raising here and it's pretty

clear like compared to 2012. L've and now racing and envying.

I would I'd say is much better off so you don't cut it.

I mean like if if you look at at Merlin million fields and how

much was bent back, like 2012 and 2013.

This is now it's a great advertisement for how much

disagreement has helped racing in the state.

And it had to happen because you look around Delaware has Of the

slot money, Charles Town has the studio to Sylvania.

Virginia, Maryland, just has to keep up with the Curve and now

they are, and we're hopefully going to see bigger purses down

the road. Well, that doesn't happen here

in Kentucky. So, you know, no matter how many

states around us have gambling and whatever else, and we can't

even get sports betting past and I know you all in.

Maryland passed, sports betting. I believe last year was the

first year for sports betting, but it looks like you big news

today is that online? Sports betting is going to hit.

Maryland by the end of November. What is the horse?

What is the feel from the horse racing World about that?

Like they see this competition? They see it as something that

they can play on with. I mean, what's the feel there?

I would say it's it's, it's pretty similar to other states,

like like iPhone Josie, who originally and Josie was, of

course, at the Forefront of sports, betting movement.

And and well there ya that we would mix of, oh, it's good for

us because it's more money, right?

But also its Not so good because it's what competition.

But but if I'm being honest, my take on the guy, sports betting

is a people wanted to bet on Sports beforehand.

You're doing anyway, regularly will likely it really makes no

difference. So I don't think it's moving

feel too much and you really haven't seen that in Jersey so

far, everything handle as Monmouth Park and metal.

Ions has gone up over the past few years while seeing and an

increase in the amount of Jersey girls were born.

Hopefully the same thing happens in my own.

So set the scene for Saturday John and Dan, what kind of crowd

shows up for Maryland million day?

What's the total handle? I remember so I've got my war of

will hat Preakness had on from a couple years ago you know I

think total handle at Pimlico that day was somewhere around 99

million something like that. What is the what is the

expectation for a Maryland million day?

Well this is a not biggest non Preakness week handle in mode.

The all-time record is in. Seven, the handle 7.8 Million

last year they did 6.5. And that was the biggest I

believe, since 2007's. I'm hoping to get to 7 this.

You and you know we've seen a lot of those days and you

catalog this on Twitter, John really well I think is, you

know, hey Keeneland on this Wednesday last year, did this

amount of money in this year? They did more of that kind of

stuff. So, I, if you if your Trends

around the country are right, then I think the seven numbers

very attainable for Laurel on Saturday and consider it.

Excuse me, John. But it in considering the the

quality of this program for abetting standpoint considering

that you're getting it on maybe a lull weekend, right before the

Breeders Cup. Why wouldn't you bet on this

race? Absolutely.

If this is a tremendous opportunity for a horse players,

across the country, to get involved, betting at Laurel

because you do have that 12%, take out on the pick five,

wagers with the carryover potential in the late.

Pick five, it's a great opportunity and hopefully some

folks will discover the circuit. Yes, 69 and sunny on Saturday.

Let's go. That sounds good in October

ideal for weather, still here to be a beautiful day.

I'll go to a football game Saturday night here at it's

going to be like 77 and I'm just I'm ready look at let's go doing

that for sure. Yeah 32 and I'm like hold oh

well it's that time of year again.

Yeah and we will be over. 48 hours, we'll have a little bit

of winter, a little bit of fault a little bit of summer so it's

just the way it is right now. So anything else where should we

go ahead? And kind of get to some some

racing here. You want to talk about that

late? Pick three on Saturday, excited

to do it part of that late. Pick 5, that Dan mentioned.

I just look those those takeout rates men.

I mean, it's that 12% is unbeatable frankly.

I mean, I think it's Canterbury a tendon in a horseshoe and and

them JC the Maryland Jockey Club at 12.

So it's really, really playful, really comfortable.

Of course, Sr our segment of handicapped and is sponsored by

our friends at Green Street Racing.

So make sure you check out Green Sheet racing.com and on the

weekends you can get Louise most likely winner of the weekend or

the Saturday, really? I guess, what a record, your

plane, the favorite he's against and then of course his sequence

guaranteed to hit three out of four or four spread a little

more than I do. That's right.

Yeah no I do you think about two hundred dollar ticket to the

sheet? You can write Last year at at

million million, nobody hit late, take five and four five

heat hundred bucks. So you do get 4 out of 5, don't

throw away that taller Chabot a battle.

That's right, I change your mindset.

Lou, you got it, you got to change your mindset.

It's not a pick five, it's an avoid one.

That's an important to show the show.

I hosted the morning. We don't talk.

We don't refer to games as most wins.

We refer to them as must not lose.

If you're playing, A crappy opponent.

It's like that. Yeah, don't miss one of the leg.

Alright so the first racer we're going to talk about is racing on

is the Maryland million Turf a mile and an eighth on the turf

or three year olds and up. And there's a lot of horses on

the up on this one because we got horses.

I think that are like eight years old and it's almost like,

we might, we have a former winner with mr.

D'Angelo, when this three years ago, the janji and street street

copper, who came in second, third in this race last year.

I mean, a lot of This would have been here before been there,

done that. And who do we like?

Let's go ahead and let's start with Dan Dan.

Who do you like in this race? I actually, like, street cop or

a little bit in this race. I have to admit.

I am concerned about his current form is last race was a bit

underwhelming over at Pimlico. Was a pretty good open allowance

race. However the runner-up came back

to win with a 92 buyers. He figure I'll be it on dirt.

This is a horse though. His only raced once in a mile

and an eighth on Turf. Previously was in last year's,

Maryland million turkey red quite well to be Third that day

I talked to Michael trombetta. He says the horse is training

very very well looking forward to running them on Saturday.

The key to this race is Pace because you're absolutely right

Michael. A lot of these old timers, you

know they've been around and they've been through the wars,

but they also don't have a lot of early speed and wicked

prankster might be the main speed reeling back on 6 days, so

he's a horse. You might want to consider as

well, but I've always been a street copper fan and I think

he's coming into this race, okay?

Three copper though, it's been a long time man.

Hasn't what hasn't won since July, 20?

20 21 and then the Maryland million Turf last.

I was last time you hit the board so hopefully you can kind

of pull it off and pulled together here John.

Are you having to happen at all? Course, John what would you like

last night? I went to the classic.

Draw a I got home and I knocked out all 12.

While others watched game. One of the NLCS.

So Do we have to Yankee guys? On this show right now?

Is that happening? Yes.

I'll tell you right now to the Yankees in the Astros, the

Astros, if they take it to six, I'll be happy Houston of some

anyway. So, echoing what?

Dan said, there's really no speed in this field.

Like looking at the past performances and I felt like

it's all clones of each other. These horses who all have no

speed and like to come, From way out.

So, I'm going to add two voices in in here, who have at least a

little bit speed one. As denoted, is we're good

friends to number e, number 11, okay, first off a long layoff

last time out on on Sunday. When gate to, I owned a very

good figure on the business scale.

Rpg-7, he's better. He's been in proven form all

year, he likes this track. Is it the boy 1 in 5 of 6 at

Lowell and I can easily see him to sneaking away on believe and

not. Back, but my top pick in here is

probably the end up being number 7, midnight, Halo 4 Burning

Heart and and Pennsylvania. Based David Cora who comes in

for the mount. He's a Stakes Winner here.

This year, he wanted, Yeah, Lebanon.

Valley at Penn National back in August and it's all very

professionally. He'd rather call it off the

pace. At the top of the stretch, look

like he was gonna do much, but he really kicked on and he won

going away. He went, he went by collecting

three quarters, if that race was a few years longer, he could one

by four or five nest out in the alphabet soup.

He didn't do, I didn't have much of a chance with the way the

very set up by land and sea. Who, if I caught quickly was a

favorite, That day and who want to sneak supposed just the other

day? He kind of got away with the

pace. If he dropping the stretch and

midnight holler and everybody else got caught napping, but

we're not Hall is still closed on very well, got off with

second, I'm a business scale, he hasn't gone worse than a 91 on

grass or you. And most of these horses

struggle, forget they're even one top so long as he runs his

various. He's going to be a contender.

I think the only horse, Guys, didn't mention, excuse me, if

they draw and look for mega yacht on the outside 15, if that

horse draws in the other. The other words I'd like to

mention here is actually crabs of beer already Run 10 times

this year, hit the board nine of those.

So it's just one of those horses that seems to always be part of

the equation at the end. And so, you know, even if you're

filling out a trifecta, something like that, the 13

crabs have your 10 to 14. Jae Min s, who's just a mean?

I don't know. I think of him is kind of

royalty in that part of the country.

And so to get, you know, to get a horse like that, it's kind of

one speaks. The size of these fields and

that sort of thing. And I think that, you know,

hoarsely kinds of beer. I think it's gonna be part of

the equation. And so, you know, if you're if

it's like I said, filled out the exact, as tries, that's the kind

of horse that definitely get the job done has run three times at

Laurel on the turf, has won over the Laurel Turf before over

yielding course probably get a lot better.

A lot better surface, this weekend, it looks like and so

yeah I think that's a horse. One of the few that we did

mention I do actually I have Wicked prankster on top because

I think that horse could just get out front, stay out front

and, you know, once in a while in these tough races, you're

kind of like, okay who's gonna Anna who's going to pick up the

pieces here and no one picks up the pieces.

And so, you know, especially if you see something like twenty,

three, and four, and then you see 48 and to something like

that, you're like, oh boy, they really slowed it down.

I mean, we could praise her could run away with this thing

and those are both great prices. The 11 Wicked pranks are 8 to 18

crabs, a 10 to 1. And if this rice does come down

to pace and trip, crabs, and beers gonna have to work

something out from a tough outside post, but at least he

has the Tactical speed to maybe get position going into the

first turn. I just want to mention one other

horse because I'm just a huge fan.

And that's cannons, Roar who has Erased.

Amazing, he hasn't won a race in about 2 years because he's been

so close and so many good ones, but he just seems to have bad

trip after bad trip. And if you go back and watch

this last phrase, he was hung out for wide on the first turn,

three wide all the way around and he was racing against horses

like decorated Invader, a grade 1 Stakes Winner, the winner of

that race English taverns, and open Stakes winners.

So he has tactical speed through.

This might be his best chance he's getting up there in age

however and and piggybacking off of what Dan said that At that

allowance, he's coming out of at Pimlico on 24th.

That was a probably a quiz sticks quality field.

I mean it was absolutely status listed takes Plus Great 3 - for

sure, I'm with you. Yeah the loaded.

I remember seeing that field. I was like they were running out

what's going on trips eventually.

It works out. Yeah.

All right, we're gonna move onto the dirt.

Now for the hundred thousand dollar Maryland, million Sprint

for three year olds and up six. Furlongs.

Here we got the last two winners of this race featured here with

last year going to are token in the year before that Karen's

notion. Do we see Dan?

Either one of those two horses, getting another, one of these

I'm a big fan of both horses. I think they might be slightly

less than the big name in this race and the big name in this

race is going to be for the love of Urban who fits this race

horse racing, happy hour. I'm not in this race for the

love of Bourbons on a five race win streak.

He's emerged as one of the best sprinters in the region.

I did talk to Michael P know though, he said, this wasn't the

original plan, they feed just came out of the last race doing

so good. They're going to wheel them back

on relatively short notice. And if you're going to wheel a

horse back on short, notice, you're going to do it dropping

out of maybe a list of steak into this restricted race.

He's the horse to beat to be sure.

I pour chalk. So I'm going to try to go with

airport, who is a horse that Jamie Nest told me was a morning

glory or if they would do everything right in his workouts

and then just couldn't figure it out during the afternoon and his

last race. You really figured it out.

I mean, if you watch the tape of that race, that was just a giant

performance and maybe it was simply because he caught a slow

pace in a weak field, but I have a feeling maybe Jamie's figured

airport out a horse. It's always showing a little bit

of ability and I don't think he needs to lead to win this case.

Unlike the Maryland million turf.

Be hot. Yeah, well that of course, then

that's a that's a five lengths Victory airport had in his last

timeout. So John, he did you like him

this race? I mean I think the conversation

starts and ends with for her love of bourbon, he's much much,

much better than it than than anyone else in this field.

In fact, if anyone else that describes the Atlantic throat

but you can read my story about him in the last issue.

I talked to his owner Dan Ryan and his training like Pinot is

great. Conversations and I profiled

him. I mean, as Dan said, he's won,

five straight, he's beat, burn a good wrong about the times.

And of course, turn a multiple Stakes Winner this year, he has

good tactical speed. So if the pace is that fast

doesn't have to be on the page, you can sit just off it.

And when the runners tiring, I hope me right there to make his

move. And, you know, I'm hoping I

don't think he's, he's quite Afraid One quality but if he

wins, he'll earn the right to be in a good steaks.

Next time out because he is very big and he was claimed over in

your neck of the woods back in May of twenty 20 or 40, 50

thousand dollars. And now his career earnings over

half a million because I love these kinds of horses that they

breed for 2,500 bucks and they end up being happy.

Well there's I yes what a dream man.

I think it's so awesome and you know it's it's been fun getting

to know people that are in the game on the ownership side, who

breed in Indiana for like forty-five hundred bucks in

their horse was a hundred thousand dollar raised and you

know it's just the best stuff ever but you know it's

interesting I like that Paco's coming in for this one, I think

it's a sign that they really, you know, they're coming back,

it's interesting that you mentioned, he's on short rest

here, he's gonna have about 18 days or so, right?

No 19 days. Like that.

And then you mentioned another horse airport, who's actually a

shorter rest right? Just read it.

Even on short arrested. So I usually when I handicapped

short layoffs, I see it as the trainer just knows they're in

good. They're in good condition and

it's time to go. I remember Maxfield a couple

years ago with like super long between races and then are not

Maxfield. Oh my gosh.

Mike help me at home. I think of it was another horse

and he they were staggering the horse like every four months and

then they ran them back on like three weeks and I was Horses.

Ready to go, he's gonna, he's gonna be a problem on Saturday

and so yeah, I look at it the same way as Dan does and a, but

I agree with John, I think, like I get not liking chalk but the

good news is and this Pick 5 sequence, you're going to go

pretty deep on a lot of these races.

So if you do want a single in one of them, it's not going to,

it's not going to hurt the value at all.

I don't think it's. So I do think for the

Louisville, bourbon is the is the horse to beat here, for all

the reasons that John mentioned. And it just You know, this is a

horse, that's one, dry course, wet course, just wins right?

And sometimes you just and especially at state level races,

it's just go pick the winner. Grab the winter, and move on.

All right, so Dan would ask you a question because I'm always

fascinated by the backside politics that kind of going with

this. So airport, you said, figure it

out last time, had the big five lengths, Victory, Paco was

aboard their Paco, choosing, I'm guessing, I don't know what the

arrangements are with the ownership groups in the

trainer's, much to go on the for For the Love of And she better

read into that at all. I think if they're going to read

into it, they're going to read the Paco.

Pick for the love of bourbon and why wouldn't you?

Yeah, I mean for the love of bourbon is a horse that if he

keeps going and going and going and as John says he might be

running in my in bigger races for bigger purses airport,

though, does get Jamie ness's regular Rider, Jaime Rodriguez.

Okay, yes. And and going to point that out

is Jamie is Unstoppable. At Delaware Park is home base

and he's passing up a day. At at Delaware who come here to

all the horses that I do want to mention real quick.

I see if you believe this pace is going to fall apart the 13,

the 14 always in a hurry. Took down a pretty big scalp.

Last time out to sea ran down. Wonder Wharf, Craig is a graded

Stakes Winner that almost was 9:59 and at a big lead on,

always in a hurry. Always in a hurry.

Ran him down. They'll capuano the winningest

trainer in Maryland million history.

I asked him about the post. He said, it makes him sick.

He doesn't know what kind of trip he's going to get 4.14.

Agent. Tim keep is very, very high on

this Source. There's another words that Rally

from way off the pace to run down a favor.

A loves Josie, was clear with the 3/16 elusive agent gaad.

Mm. Keep says, the source is very

immature, but he has a big future in this division, whether

it's now whether its next year, maybe we'll find out Saturday

and that horse loves Laurel. So we seem to find a good spot

with him braces main 23. I like that, it's like that

angle. Once in a while, would you,

especially when you get to the fall?

Seems like those sources of figured it out from there.

All right, so we're going to move on.

On to the main event which is the Marilyn million.

Classic hundred, fifty thousand dollars on the line here Mile

and an eighth on the Dirt 3 year olds and up.

And and Dan, who do you like, in this one?

I like van Scholars. A lot off of his most recent

race. It was the Japan Turf cup which

probably should be nicknamed. The Japan off Turf cup.

It was washed off the turf and that's how van Scholars make

pays on, I'll be in the Catskills next week.

This horse ran a mile and a quarter.

Look at those fractions for that race.

He was the only three-year-old in that race.

By the way, he was actually giving weight to some of the

older horses in there. He duels with a long shot and I

think, Jorge Ruiz who I believe is one of the most reliable

Riders on the circuit went for home.

Just a little bit to world out of kit for home

three-and-a-half. Furlongs out opened up the lead

to a good trip closures, beat fan Scholars.

The other pay Source, got beat a million likes this or scapula

length. Now, it's got to do it on faster

going again. Tough older horses, but he

showed the ability to rate, and I think he fits very, very well

in this spot. Nessus horses, stretching out.

He's very interested in this. Or she said, the reason he

claimed him is because he trained the dam, and he's always

been following this Source Who was a Stakes Winner or to the

source is sharp. I'm worried about the mile and

an eighth for him. John, do you have a pic here?

I said, a split second van Scholars cross, the finish line

in the Japan cup. That horse is going to win the

Merlin Merlin classic. Oh all right.

And I'm sticking to it as Dan said he was.

I mean, he was absolutely insane that day all the cartoon I was

like, oh my God, he's because because I bet and I was like, oh

my God he's big he's gonna lose by daylight but he fought back

really hard. I mean at topless felt I was

like Oh my God, he could actually win this thing and I'm

coming to Third the violent, but he showed so much a lot of God's

being on that pace. And you know what?

It's not a fluke effort either, I mean it is supposed to back

off of them along. Look a mom left with injured for

the enemy's 20 season, came back in the bald eagle.

Toby when key to y, 0 by two and a half lengths, beat me out for

a lot of money that day and then I don't know because we talked

about long but about long layoffs here.

Ran in the Virginia Derby on September 6th, didn't do much

that day. Came back, two days later and it

takes a Delaware Park mile, and a half.

It came in second. So he can do that, pretty

easily. And then, of course, you're in

huge in the pan Toph cup and he has speed, is there any question

was outside but We've seen he can withstand it and I think he

has a huge chance. When this bill to day.

Layoff, I love it. Being a layoff.

Holy cow, I think a couple of horses.

I mean, look, if he draws in cord maker, I mean, whatever.

I mean, we're talking about Maryland.

I mean, you know, if the 12 draws in, look at the 12, you

know, I also, I'm a little surprised hasn't come up yet the

nest Rodriguez combination on it.

By the way, I like the van Scholars pick.

I was scouring to see if there was a three-year-old in this

class and it's good to see one, you know, Ruiz is only 11

percent right now at the Meet at Laurel, but over the last couple

of years, he and capuano teaming up 27%, so it's not.

That's a little bit of an aberration.

I think that's just a bit of the early part of the card, he'll

get it back together. I think before all things are

all said and done. Our nation parade though.

The nine interesting horse hasn't really run in this kind

of company is coming out of high level, claiming races and that

kind of thing. Ran for ran for 50 last time at

Churchill Downs, one easily, open lengths, and so big by your

numbers. Not sure if he's going to get

the two turns at law. Oral.

And really like it has one at the at Laurel 85 speed figure as

well. Going going to turns I just The

think Jamie Nest, man. I just keep coming back off the

claim, the guy's unbelievable. I mean, it just is he put the

horses in great spots. I think you'd be crazy, not to

look at the nine there as well. But like I said, it cord maker

frankly if he draws in it really changes this race for me because

he is 11 427 lifetime. He's just he's definitely gonna

be part of the equation on that day.

So it's actually, it's interesting because I thought

you might have to look really deep in this race.

And I don't think you have to. I think you can go 7, 9 and 12

and kind of just wrap it up. Then I know you like her to make

her a lot too. Is that huge fan?

I mean he's one of the Maryland bread War at Warriors.

He shows up in open companies trained by Rodney Jenkins is

just one of the Elder Statesman at the game in Maryland and a

very respected figure corn, Baker hasn't raced since

February interesting enough when he won the general Georgia

graded Stakes race but it just shows this horse.

Has versatility, you can win sprinting, he can go long, he

can do whatever, and I trust this Barn off of a layoff if he

gets into the race. Not sure if he will, he's

obviously the horse to be and, and that bullet 54, you know,

for a long workout the other day, it's clear that he's

working. Well, so, you know, I mean,

he's, he's a seven-year-old and seasoned veteran and, you know,

he'll be fine if he gets it. Wrong somewhat interesting

wanted to win here for Lynn cash who claim the source, I believe

one of nine way, shake for the source a while back.

He's obviously very pleased with how that turned out.

If the pace gets hot, he has another horse in here that has

pasted horse the won this race, a couple Years ago, Monday

Morning Quarterback, sort of that's intended injuries, forced

them to missed some time. Looks like he's coming back.

He's got speed. The defending champ Grundy me

has speed our pick van Scholars has speed.

Maybe it sets, things up for a horse like double crown was

second in the Sprint last year. Like I wanna kind of wonder if

cash entered on a morning. QBs kind of a grapple of sorts

for double crown. He didn't he didn't mention that

to me when I talk to him he actually said, I think the

source is going to out Ron is odds now.

Maybe limbs just an eternal optimist here but he feels that

doors. Didn't like the wet track.

Last time out he's just racing himself back into shape after a

severe injury he's going he says he's going to do his best to

make the lead from the outside post with the source.

So I want to ask a Maryland. Question, ain't a beer cold.

The 5 is in this race, he won a mile and a sixteenth race at

ammonium. Is that a five turn race or six?

Turn racing De Beer. There's lots of great.

Okay. All right.

How many fingers Timonium Side by is absolutely?

I'll buy this to go and try out your door and I'm sure I would

have Dorrit. Yeah, for sure.

So it's definitely on my bucket list.

I got to get out there and we actually, would we had did

Rodman on the show. I asked him about calling in

Timonium and he said, the only challenging part is that the

announcer's Booth isn't very high off the ground, so it's not

a big track. So you can see the horses but

it's, he's used to, you know, he said he always takes Pimlico for

granted because you get that nice perch at Pimlico and then,

you know, it's a little bit lower Laurel, but that you can

sit somebody of. It's like, it's like standing on

the ground, you know, like the NFL coaches who like to be in

the Box rather than be on the field, you know, that kind of

thing. That's essentially what it was.

Hey, guys, on this card though, are there other horses John?

You said, you went through all 12, you know, we're just talking

about these last three, big races fun card for sure.

People should definitely check it out, especially those pick

fives. Is there another horse on this

card that you're like, that's, you know, and you to Dan

obviously, you know, that's a, that's a must include.

And or I think that's where you're Is in a literally pick

five little pig for that. Kind of thing, John, a few of

them. Oh good, mom in Greece for

melon, melon melon Nursery, silver 12.

I landed on Lost weekend a sometimes A Great Notion who has

who has if I counted correctly 18 horses at this year's,

Maryland million polish, Prince Italian and here's the book is

made it at Timonium. It's a very impressively he for

my five and a half lengths. It's in a very short walk.

Yeah. Well following 46 and 2/3 came

back. We had well, I thought in the

first state dash at Elroy Nest, Outlaws back at Lincoln food is

presents. Peter stood up to an 82 that's

not totally. Many of these have entered think

if he keeps moving forward he'll have a big chance and in the

sister Grace base-8 Maryland million classy of Malibu

moonshine Goku made it at Pimlico last out, very

forcefully, soup, the field, one going away and and if you can

avoid traffic over here, couldn't make that same.

When they move do horses, tend to tend to travel.

Well, from Pimlico to Laurel to the tracks, especially in the

during side, do they seem to match up pretty well?

I think so. It's okay, good.

Okay, great. Remember Laurel about the turf

course, especially going five-and-a-half furlongs.

This stretch is never ending or if it.

Will go five for a long-term Sprint's, you have your normal

stress. I haven't had for a long with

the second wire. Finish one mile, dirt races.

With the second wild wire finish will be many times when you're

six lengths in front at the, for a long pole and you start

getting very nervous and there's good reason to because you have

like I'm loaded like if I'm in front at a top of federal law

and iOS, I'm not counting my money for a little bit.

It's a long way home and it's a 1 turn my little oral.

Yeah, 1/4 Mile. Yeah we need a couple Laurel

done. All right, Dan Too dangerous -

not going here. I'm a most likely winner on the

card grateful bread and race number 3, defending champion in

the Turks, print going to be the heaviest favorite on the card

for Madison Myers, just looks like the most likely winner if

you want a singularly, I'm interested in marvelous and race

number five. This is a horse Sue is really

consistent at the border last seven races and I just think

this is a kind of race where she's going to get a much better

setup than she did last time. Last time out the top two

finishers controlled the race throughout this race.

There's a lot more paste. I I like horses cutting back to

7/8 of a mile as a rule from Route races, she's doing that

here and she's done that successfully in the past.

I just need to know if that's a like, a Billy Crystal reference

right there because I want that horse and look mahvelous, you

know, you don't just happen, Mike.

Do you know you probably don't. You're probably even too young

for that reference there Lou. You know, I know, I know exactly

what their eyes John's definitely too young for their

reference. I agree.

You know, just an eye right here like no, I'm playing the early

pick five. That's what I just learned

because I got picked for all three of those races.

I'm not gonna figure it out, okay?

One of the ways to build million distaff.

This is kind of where being a fan and being a better kind of

diverse paths because all cuz like, you know, past few weeks

I've been so excited to see the one fee fee, Des tree and

actually just go. Yeah, three times Stakes Winner,

Kendra's on the year. You know, ten thousand dollar

claim to two years ago has to do a whole knock affiliate with

Jerry Rock. We've been around for a million

years The daughter of a good notion, like, oh my God, it's

gonna be great to be in this Stavanger winter.

We awesome. And then I looked at the waist

and I'm like, I don't know if she's most likely with you

anymore. Hmm, there's a New York strip

actually wicked-hot the ground motion race quite well, both

here. And at Saratoga this, you lost

your last row by 42 lengths, but it was going.

But, but, but it, it was going 110 mile at Saratoga.

And, and if they're very I trip and notes Bobby track right now

to two stones back there in huge on on lead at.

So toga earned a crew. Best business speed, figure of

94 as well. Call sense, then gets Fogle in,

Chabot dress very well over here.

And I think it's a good policy upset, but if feet has three

wins, I'll be happy to All right fellas.

We really terrible people that make you got that extra

sequences. I don't like you.

Yeah yeah, yeah. Thanks boys.

I really appreciate it. I just man.

So John are you are you coming to Breeders Cup by chance?

I am not. I have I have not been aquiline

in my entire life. I really owe.

You put? Yeah, absolutely.

That's a big void for you because I haven't actually been

to 30. Yeah.

Right. Yeah.

Caitlin's it's been a long time. I haven't been acting like six

days. I mean, Louis.

Here's the question. Have you ever been at Saratoga?

No, I have not well. There you go.

Yeah, that's the that's doing. We don't dancing with you guys,

really? I mean Major League Racing's in

Kentucky. I don't know if they're not.

Wow. It has a lot of potential

because it's just hit a home run by the way.

Yeah, I saw us like 20 and, you know, you know, you know This

point I'm like just win one look out that although John Doe

anyway. What about fixed odds?

The only problem is is horse. Players are creatures of habit?

What do I think? So it's gonna be kind of hard to

wean them off the phone Mutual system.

Well I mean I don't think that's different.

Yeah. Yeah I mean I think it's just a

different kind of thing again. A lot of interesting people that

went to the Haskell and the different windows and how they

controlled that and all those things.

And so it was clear like I would look at it more as you know if

you have the fixed odds and I really like a horse and they're

all of a sudden 522 instead of 421 like they were on the on the

morning. When I'm gonna go grab the four

to one, but you got to be pretty.

You got to be pretty Nimble to do.

That kind of thing is, I mean like, what monkey times this

year? And there were times what we're

perfect. I'll just park myself in front

of the Pixar's born to be like, just watching it.

Mostly because as you said you have no, that's right.

Yeah, you got an opinion on the ethics?

Thoughts. I think we need to educate the

public more about all force of paramutual, gambling.

What is take out? What is it?

Are we playing against the house?

No, we're playing against each other.

That's the bright part of racing is that not only can you win

money on winning your money. That's and then you could laugh

at you when it's all over with. I like to fix Todd's idea, it

needs to be promoted, maybe a little bit better.

It's for the handicapper that has their own line.

They've made it ready before they go to the track.

They can Look and scan overlays right away and they got to be

willing to pull the trigger, pretty pretty quick.

So it's basically from Warren experience towards player but

certainly worth a try. Yeah, right.

I'm kind of a fan. I mean we talked about to like

if you're tuned into the scratches and all that other

kind of stuff can get some really good numbers on some

horses and I don't know. I like it.

So, alright. So selfishly gentlemen, I will

be at Pimlico for preakness this year.

I might be too by the way, Louis.

Yeah, I think I need to come. This is the year Dan, that we're

going to get you the air. Over there.

I think I'm the make danis will come out with me Hall of Famer

the whole thing. The two of you are going to have

to show up to the radio show that we do on a Preakness

Saturday book to write. I love it.

Appreciate it guys. All right Zach play us out of

here. This has been another great

edition of the horse-racing happy hour and just be ready.

Louis and I will be live from the Breeders Cup on Friday and

then pan Saturday so you can listen to us on ESPN Louisville

or I'll be posting the shows like normal Zach.

Yeah, I mean that's actually good thing to mention here.

You know, the shows will be live.

You be able to stream around the country.

Literally, ask your smart speaker to play ESPN.

Louisville, you be able to pull us up 10:00 to noon on Friday

TBD on the Saturday show. What time we're going to be

going to talk to Mike Patton and figure out what they're doing

over at Horse Racing Radio. Yeah.

And the college football schedule does matter a little

bit with that. Right?

Yeah. But that weekend is James

Madison for Louisville oh and okay.

Kentucky's at George. I think.

Yeah, I think yeah, none of these guys beat Georgia, that

weekend's what you do there in Tennessee.

What am I saying? They're going to Tennessee for

that weekend so oh yeah, that's right.

That's right. So it's James Madison in a road

game, so hopefully, they'll put us on to do, okay?

Yeah. You be able to stream all those

and, you know, we'll have interesting guests.

Like, I don't know, everyone that shows up to freaking

British Council. Yeah, just look for the six

Mandana. So that's what we got.

out.
