Breeders’ Cup Euro Preview with James Welsh

the Breeders Cup coverage as as the horse race and happy hour

James Welsh here, to talk about all the European horses that we

haven't seen yet. And he Those a little bit about

the American horses too so he'll get into that.

So yeah. So Louis I think your hips I

think Europe's biggest fan of America dirt racing is on with

us right now so yeah definitely. All right I would probably I

would agree with that. Yeah 100%.

All right so what are we going to start with here?

Louis you don't let's just get straight into a James, you know,

Friday is always an interesting day when we get the juveniles

and yet. So I think I said, okay place to

start, you know, is there A race in particular that you don't

start with the Phillies Turf. Yeah, product, did you take in

chronological order? I'm happy with that.

Yeah, okay. Yeah.

So the juveniles a sorcerer with the Jupiter sprintin.

Yeah, you know, the spent probably one of Europe's,

biggest hopes of the weekend and platinum.

Queen one day, pre the lobby in the wrong shop B elders and

strong chance. That then when it did win the

Prix de la, be it launched on the draw is crucial.

You want to be drawing the other real.

A big fields with Advantage redraw probably better, weak

field and softer ground. So I would say this run a bit to

21, I think that's a pretty short Trace.

I wouldn't be a big gain started up race first time growing a

bend and there's one or two other Europeans in the race.

Persian forces gets solid form based on the go since March

can't really see that. Get much more Improvement in it.

Mischief magic is one of quite late but it's a bit of a slow

starter so I think that meet the best thing you can do.

There's probably get a get a place but I'm always I said most

Europeans. A big wooden buying corn, plant

the Platinum Queen but I think we wanted to take one for myself

and I'd be looking at the American gait speed horses.

I agree with James, there's something about the the turf

sprinting, especially, since it's not straight line.

It's not any of those kinds of things.

It seems to point to the American horses this way and so,

you know, generally speaking, when you get to the logger Turf

races and you're going to three turns, whatever it might look

like, that's what you lead on the Euros, but frankly in these

shorter races, especially, you know, when we talk about

Saturday, we talking like a golden pal, something like that.

That's the kind of horse, that's absolutely a lien on and

sequences and different things. And so I agree with that with

James on that one. All right, with the Breeders

Cup, juvenile fillies turf. Who's your favorite European

horse in this race? Okay?

So given of tell it tough record European record or not with to

ones from 14 races which is 14.3 percent which is not a great

record and wisely said over some real fancy towards his have been

turned over the short prices. And so, once again another one

this year with solid form media, maybe meditate will be meditate,

will be the favorite coming here from in a brain again.

once again it is lacking about a gait speed so I can see that

Another one is quite Real Fine seed.

That's the only reason soft ground and I would see that

probably needs further than our male again that we want maybe

staying on strongly but not what I would be.

So, yeah, I'm opposing the European favorite, the American

horses are not wild about. I just feel less stress, could

be a bit of a, bit of a boil over here.

I think there's a few Sailors from American horses that could

give a run of the race and they could be an interesting one for

the Exotics. I think, you know, If we can try

and get media, I don't know. Your form is in America, too

much on this Visa. See, a two-year-old Phillies and

tougher America's probably very limited.

Yeah, it's very low, especially over to turns yeah, right.

Yeah. And so yeah, you make a good

point there, especially at the end where it's hard to know

which of the America two-year-olds is going to show

up well in these spots and so many of these two year olds

especially on the European side. I've been running a good company

like you mentioned right already and so it's not you know they

already have the class experience and that sort of

thing. And so many of these American

horses, Is a major step up for them.

Obviously, a two-year-old level, the Breeders Cup.

All we could be a step up but I mean a massive step up for many

of them. It's yeah.

So, do you think Joseph O'Brien's horse here?

Based Martini, has any shot here?

It's a longer. It's a nice number of 16:1.

The last nice to take the horse out there.

Looking at Ya silly for the Exotics.

Yeah that that I think that was it Ben is coming on well but top

seed and yeah that's the type of thing I'd be sort of work on

Street rather than a three to one favorite that we don't sort

of the trip and you know, I think that's the sort of angle.

I'd be taking. I think I'd be clean their sir.

He's certainly not singling. Anything just be playing the

Exotics in a few, big up resources, both American and one

or two other users a bigger presence here.

Alright now we'll move on to the final Breeders Cup race of

Friday, which is the Breeders Cup?

Juvenile Turf and we only got a couple European entries in this

race. Yeah kind of short field.

What do you think about that? Yeah no I think that she

probably got the strongest. Lines of it's a European record.

Name ones from 15 races 60% is you say there's not too many

Europeans coming over, that's probably cause they know that

there's silver. Not, it's it's got a very good

chance. There's talk about one Trader

who really tired of its these races.

We do it targets. The the North American Racing is

Charlie a bull bleep and I think the Americans of cottoned on to

them, do you see? We will talk about horses and

it's not our day with a seaweed, is it, it'll be all mine episode

fillies toughest and putting a few few long shots and Mia.

And hoping, maybe Kiev rocking and silver not one for you.

Yeah. The, the other American that I

like here, you know, just because what you're talking

about two-year-olds I like it. When they've shown that they

want to win, they want to be at the front.

Major dude is one of those horses trained by Todd.

Pletcher is an absolute gamer. He's one of those horses.

Just had a mile. I think he's going to, it's not

an accident that he wins this challenge race.

I think that he comes in here and good form, I think she is

Me, I think he's one to include if you're going to play an

exotic play here, James, you know, maybe you're Wheeling with

with silver, not on top, but like, I think he's, especially,

if he's at 10:00 11:00 12:00 to 1:00 that kind of number is

gonna, he's gonna factor in an exactor trifecta, this, but

yeah, no, that's great. And it's, this is the big thing

for me. And this is why, you know, as I

said, I played American Racing though because in the UK and

Europe, they focus on single specs towards, you know, and

that's it. You know, I prefer, you know, to

try and do the Exotics in train when beg your ass, the whole

point of this meeting. There's no Holding back.

So it's all about, you know, get an exotic.

Getting the Exotics, getting the pick threes, that's my main

focus. All right, so let's head on to

Saturday before we get to Saturday.

I wanted to ask you have Jeff big feelings about the dirt

races on Friday. It sounds like you think a rock

is is pretty much a lock on that race.

Yeah. Anybody phones me twice that I

suppose. You can pretty Elliot are the

but the Gallup reports. So I've got 15 his way from

correct first time. Oh it's hard to get place.

So I got a repo and nice. Jesus really funny.

First round, it wasn't easy and I think he said work, two triple

digit buyers and a 98 buyer. Probably think, you know, these

horses juveniles probably is have to keep that going inmate

regress, but I don't think he has any challenges here to

really think he's that far ahead.

So even if it does regressor, we bet you should still one

Barbara's beholden to you actually see that you could put

up quite a spectacular performance.

Is really quite exciting and the juvenile fillies duck.

Again I probably am against the sort of so Californian horses

there. So probably looking for a home

earlier to development my pic threes and pick for was probably

that would be but it's that that's my one thing I'm really

I think in off lately in the Saturday and but to me fleetline

yet great horse will talk about it.

But the competition it's got you know, strong competition.

We could be a classic agrees with who fleetline with his

something make progress. But yeah, I would have to be a

forte. It would have to be a blazing

sevens that suddenly took that multiple seconds off of their

running time kind of performance and that would have to literally

be that kind of performance. And so, yeah, it's a it's asking

a lot, frankly of a young horse to make that kind of job.

Okay so we're going to go right to Saturdays and this is the

Breeders Cup Turf Sprint and of course I mean this might be one

of the easiest races of the day I guess I mean golden pal one

Keeneland and the turf Sprint juvenile short Sprint. 2 years

ago one the church spent last year hasn't actually hasn't

lost. So we're told Kaitlyn.

Yeah. Is there a European here who can

beat Golden pal? Oh, very much.

So M. And you took the very strong

high hopes for a high field princess And just rip, she's a

road warrior and she wanted your cuz, you know that you're

Caitlyn a year. She won the prestigious faithful

unlawful. Nothing spent.

And she made the island one, another group 1 and Island, and

then went to France, Israel. And when Israel.

So she's really three group ones in the bones, strong form, big

falling over here. She's got a lot of publicity.

So, I think actually, she meet with certainly.

Well, backed over here with his golden Power, as I see it.

Once again, a similar scene, the scene around the flash York and

they tried to run in a straight line, they took it back to ask

got why, you know, the haunting the safety needs a pain, but no,

they run in a straight straight line.

Again, yet other seagoing pow incredible to gait speed

probably, looks like bit of Fairly Big Field.

So, a weight drop, may be a disadvantage, but it over came

out before. So yeah, you can see golden

Power gone away. But certainly, I feel princess

is very Real fancy. Incidentally, get BLM a year, I

ask what which is the Platinum Jubilee States was probably the

best best friend, which one this year and the horse that won.

The race is back here again. Called Naval Crown again.

Charlie are probably that's sort of went backwards since that

race when it finished up close up.

Hey, nice table meet creative Force.

I would say that's probably one to look out for as well.

So I wouldn't discount creative Force, Applebee's targeted, this

race is for said, so that would be one.

The certainly putting me Exotics and as a horse in that race is

running to be, but another in the card called, Kinross it

finished it that day and we stretch a note to the mail so

that's probably the strongest piece of form and I feel

princess was only six in that race.

So as I said probably of through about a formerly I would seek

reinforcements Highfield. Princess both, I'm expecting

both of them to actually run really well here.

So golden Power I don't think I'll get it so all its own way

and I've not asleep. Been totally impressed with his

last few runs. So maybe that the facts lately,

on the do-more curve in one or two 80s can improve.

Yeah. Yeah.

You're going to get a huge number of Naval Crown to I think

in a Breeders Cup filled something like 40 or 50 to 1

something like this you can you can get a really really good

price on that kind of horse. And I mean frankly you get a

Charlie Appleby at 40 to 50 to 1.

I mean Christ that's sort of a couple Chuckles there and so

yeah I have I'm interested to see how I feel princess in

person. I don't think John Quinn ships

her for this race. By accident, right?

I think he thinks she's got a serious shot in this race.

You know, he'll be riding there and I think it will be a Jason,

heart will be on not afraid. I have any experience jockey for

going over time here. So it won't be about what about

big-name jockey and but got a good jockey yeah.

Okay cool. Alright so we're gonna move on

to the Maker's, Mark Breeders Cup Filly and mare Turf and

who's our best European chance in this race.

Oh yeah. So those who may have tough

European Bank, obtain ones from 23 races 43.5%, so a very strong

race and a strong favor. I think most People's Bank of

the day will be Nashua. Join guys didn't loves our one

America train do here all those years ago and its strong form.

It ran a great race in France. Last time the crown was

bottomless but was drawn 15, which was weird the car parts,

or even, you know, it just get beaten the last face.

Obviously the jockey possibly win a bit too soon on it.

And shows up anymore, I think nashwa strong challenge.

But again to 21, you know, wouldn't be one of the missing

when I think there's enough for position and we talk to me,

Joyce of a plane above, the current wasn't wasn't far behind

it, and it's when it left. The stone are always late leper,

Tuesday, Tuesday, bit Nash, were three lengths in New York City

Epsom in June and it's since then run a couple of conquerors

horses can do You can run a good Race by driessen.

It seems to be falling in and out B Bar pattern, with it runs

a big race, and everyone's abide in a big one.

And then, secondly, the third race after it's running running

l'arc de Triomphe. So, you've got to look at that.

And go once again, Nash was 221 choose the admit it, you know,

three lanes in June and it's 8:20.

definitely got to consider that. I think the way the race is

going to be running, it looks like an Italian will be the

controlling speed and you just wonder, you know, cat, could

that get out front style front, right?

Yeah, you know you mentioned the On Cue to get an easy lead?

Yeah yeah II with you. I think about the Chad Browns.

That's what I would play because I'm going to trust European

closing speed in these kinds of races but the get out front.

Stay out front act works very Well, an American long-distance

Turf racing and so that's what you get.

So violent 360s. This kind of distance.

It's the kind of race where especially if there's an Ortiz.

I think Iran's on at any time for this for this race.

If he's on there. He knows, Keeneland, man.

He knows, he knows the course that's the kind of thing where

he knows how to Pace it. He knows how where he's got to

be at different points in the race where he could go ahead.

Just steal one. I imagine in Italian is going to

not get a great price but probably still.

I don't know six 2171 something like That that's still pretty

playable. I think the biggest piece over

here is about eats the me, but at 1080 white.

So they're probably create some folks have an aquiline probably.

Yeah. So I think that probably the

went over time. I see, I can see that in the

state's dropping in price and we, but I think so, like, Russia

is a very nice horse Virginia Joy.

It's a very nice horse but they're not of the quality of in

Italian and frankly they're dead, they don't have similar

running, they have a similar running style to say a Nashua

and they're not as good as National.

They're just not. So I mean it's, you know, I my

opinion about the different styles.

The best of those Styles Dash was closer and then it Italian

actually won by Japanese horse. Yeah, we only got one Japanese

entry in the entire Wing. Stub, what we all make of that,

I think when they're in California, we're going to see a

lot of Japanese horses and what its east of the Mississippi,

we're going to see less. Yeah.

That's just going to be the nature of it, okay.

I don't know how good of a look it is I mean that's my only

thing, you know. So The Breeders Cup milder

FanDuel Breeders Cup miles. The next race, we're going to

talk about, and we actually have order of Australia who won this

race, two years ago in this race and of course Annapolis, who is

a horse at the xolos Ivar as well James, which way you going

to go in this race case, might be my favorite field.

Yeah, of the weekend. It's very, it's very cool set of

runners in this race. Yeah, so once again, an

excellent Baker for YouTube, but when it's 16 teams are 32 AC so

41, 42 percent, Elite 3 mention enough, listen improving always

Lake and improving three-year-old at this.

There's Team of the Year award that doesn't under the race the

last time. So you know, maybe it's a bit

flat of last time but certainly I've certainly Mark that one

one that I think, if it gets their own of that, it may not

get a run a race again. But that's the one.

All right, the, the final Turf race of the Breeders Cup is the

Longines Breeders Cup Turf. This is a mile and a half or

three year olds and up. Run of course on the turf.

Since we're talking about racing, let's talk about the

European Shooters in this race. Yeah.

But what's these no machine is your Banker but want 2014's

assets here AC 63% and probably the best or was the

highest-rated watch the races Bischoff which is out and he's

praising 1781 like Frankie that or he's just been booked

although he's not at the base this year, the DC CH 1 effect,

it's been wanting in Germany and I don't think the general form

is usually underrated but at the wonderful people at the tree of

last year and is sort of getting a bit more cloaked.

If you if you if you want to. Into it, hit that the German

there. But when I last table, which is

good for them, but I just feel male The Hearth even though it,

I think that'll stop a bit sharp for that loan to you.

I think this is what I've a grander Rebels, our minds.

I feel, you know, I don't think I'll be quick enough.

I think Nations prayed and we're good at, when you see that one

day, you know, the Jockey Club dabble in the year being in

North America, a couple of teams also wanted made on early years,

trained specifically for the race.

So I definitely go with that. Once again, a couple of outs, a

those in the brain, Stone Age and room.

If there's a stinky to get somewhat less committed but I

don't think they are top class Ortiz get to speak to.

When this the way the one American one is going to be

tough to be. I think a little bit more like

guys know she likes the triage great she could be a and all

those aren't she's the only real the content I can see from the

states. But I kind of think a very good

chance. Uh, yeah, I agree.

She's just one of those that, I mean, she's this is a gamer man.

I mean, she loves to be out. She lives a pass horses, and

sometimes it's just, it was mile and a half.

Race is whoever's willing to do the passing.

At the end is the energy. She's definitely in that group.

So and build mop, man. I mean, he's having a great year

over here Channel makers in this race as well.

apart, if you can close on that field for sure.

here, James, for the older dirt. Females is the Kentucky Oaks has

become a terrific predict who's going for?

Who's going to have a great career?
