Alright, welcome to another edition of the horse-racing,

happy hour. I am Mike and awful and I'm

joined by none other than the person who says I got Olympiad

and blue prize, blue blue stripe, right believer bro, call

psych that but I appreciate it. How are you so proud of his too

long shots of came in second? Which again if you're if you're

playing the Louise long shot I mean they're not play show but

baby that's a place your bet for sure.

To be fair we gave with the winners in those races as well

too. So we do the flight line was

going to win. We said Olympia, I could hit the

board and if you played that Flightline Olympiad 18 Exacta,

you know, that's not bad tt-that's.

We're finally getting to 21 on flight.

Light has correct. Yeah, forget about it.

All right, before we go too far, I want to make sure that we

recognize and we've hinted at some of this stuff before seeing

that we have an announcement to make and then he hasn't already

been made. So you know, it's not it's not a

secret anymore but But we haven't been able to have any

kind of reaction to it whatsoever.

I'm extremely humbled Louis. I know you are as well.

Are you there Alicia? Louis.

This is great, right? Yeah, I don't know if I

connection or yours. All right, you're good now,

you're there, but you're kind of in and out, I don't know if it's

connections. Bad did you, are you skip it on

me? Or my skipping on you, you're

not skipping on me. All right, it'll work itself

out, it's just you put on me that got it.

All right, so let's just, you know, sorry for that.

Great, great podcasting right there.

This is the last show and you're gonna get laughs stuff.

That just happens Lily. Anyway, I'm extremely humbled,

and I know you are as well. To be the first where podcasting

is our main delivery. It's really up for us.

It's our only delivery to be the first people inducted into the

national Turf writers and broadcasters just it's

unbelievable, right? I mean, we get some reaction to

that. I mean, how did you feel about

it? When when we were asked to, you

know, when we were approached and then just to get in, on the

first try, which we hear a lot of people don't give it just

Yeah, that I think was more of a surprise than anything else, you

know, when we were approached about doing it by several

people. But first guest we've ever had,

what do we do Breeders Cup coverage from Josh?

Everybody from the LA Times? You know?

It was kind of one of those okay, sure maybe, yeah, sure job

high five. Yeah, that's that's something we

should do. And then you and I kind of

talked about it made sense, more, and more us.

We went down that road and I mean just incredible shows of

support from people, you know, like hey, Glad you guys are you

know in the group when we were British cut this last weekend,

so it's been, it's been great, it's been really quickly.

It's been really satisfying getting to talk to people and

they gave you an eclipse of what award vote, Mike.

How do you feel about that? Well, I gave one to you as well.

It's not just me. I mean that's exactly how I kind

of explain it to people. Like what just happens like,

like, you know, the group of baseball writers are kind of

votes on the Hall of Fame and I was like, well we're kind of in

that horse racing group of media now that gets a vote on this.

These things called the eclipse awards every year.

Well, it's kind of like having a vote I guess in the top 25 or

vote for the Heisman which I know doesn't mean you lose

because he thinks the Heisman is a joke.

Yeah, the it's but it for me, it's pretty amazing that we have

kind of taken this show and just knowing the history of where we

kind of started how everything kind of came about.

And In end that we would get the, we get to vote on these

Awards here in a couple weeks, actually, it's pretty

incredible. And something, I don't take

lightly, I think you're going to start seeing some things, we

launched a website by the by the way, I don't know how like put

together it is yet but one thing I'm going to do on that website

as I'm going to be posting my rankings.

So people kind of know where I'm at, I'm going to be doing

triple. I'm going to be doing a cult,

Philly Derby Oaks ranking Before the Derby.

And then after the Derby, I'll transition into all the

different classes for the, for the eclipse Awards and start to

just get people. Because I want feedback.

Like, I take that as a responsibility for us to be the

voice of our listeners, right. And I want I want feedback from

our people to say hey this is who I think should be in

whatever I want people to call my rankings crazy and say this

is who should be here, why? And whatever else.

And get as much perspective, on those things, as much our vote

is the people's vote. That's how I Gallery.

Okay. I don't feel that way at all,

but make sure that you give Mike as much feedback as you can.

Well, lose a little bit more, so I think it's a great idea.

I had no idea you were going to do all that.

I think it's it's terrific at the website does allow us to do

more, more things like that. And so check all that out horse

racing, happy our.com, all of our episodes that have it, we've

ever put out her up their links to our sponsors and coming soon.

Would it surprise you? If I told you that?

I've never been to it yet I still have Not been to the know

that surprise you coming soon what that we're going to some

merchandise. Yeah Merchant.

Yeah. All right so if you want to get

a horse racing happy our swag you know you can do it.

All right so we'll have all that stuff ready to go and it'll be

great. And you know thanks to our

buddy, Zach, you kind of put all that stuff together.

Yep. But you know I I was amazed at

just a legitimacy. The amount of people that came

up and congratulated us at breeders, Yeah, we actually

didn't officially know that we were in the horse.

The special surprise in broadcasters until yesterday.

Yep. But the all those people come up

and say thank you and just to legitimacy kind of gave and just

open up some content, some conversations that's really

appreciate it. So thanks to those people at the

in TWA V were honored and humbled to be members.

So let's talk a little bit about what we saw in the Breeders Cup.

Zach is not here. So we're not going to get any

kind of video breakdowns, but I really looking back.

Back on the weekend. I think it's the absolute best

day of racing on a Friday Breeders Cup that I've ever

attended. Okay, the ones I attended which

is you know it's seven or eight of them.

I guess I've been too and overall for the two weekends and

of course we got to see just the absolute star of stars with

flight lines performance which was masterful, sure.

I feel like this was the best quality racing and Breeders Cup

I've ever seen. Wow.

Okay. I don't think we had some of the

star power that we've had in past years in the other races,

but to have a flight line in the mouth that in the same weekend,

super high-end to have, you know, a Miler like modern games

put a weight that field which we thought was pretty wide open and

it ended up not being you know, in the Sprint though.

For example, I don't know that that was a great field in

Jackie's Warrior, certainly didn't give his best effort.

So you know, I thought some of the races were that's probably

the only disappointing race to me though.

Thinks I made really disappointing to me that disc

that was a freakin like classic type race.

I mean that distaff race was it's an all-timer it's an altar

was unbelievable and we saw some unreal finishes and you know, we

saw on juvenile day in the very first British of race of the

day, we saw a record. I mean, you know, I just I was

blown away, I thought I thought either we didn't see.

We saw the only launch out. We really saw coming in, was

that Sprint, you know everybody. This was kind of, we saw a lot

of horses in that 5 to 7 to 1 range that came in, right?

And we saw a couple favors hit but I mean, I thought that

Fields I thought maybe didn't have a star power, but the depth

and the fields were as good as any, for your scope, we saw?

Yeah. It was, you know, we always talk

on the weekend about, you know, the front end class but also the

backend class of those fields as well, and there seemed to be

class in both in both of those. But I yeah, you know, I mean, I

guess on Saturday, I mean you consider Rebels romance and

all-time Of course, because I don't know.

I think that horse is probably but I'm not saying but don't get

me wrong, I'm just saying that the race the racing itself was

good. I'm not saying that the quality

of the horse that like we, you know, we also didn't have IE

there, we didn't have some other horses like that Jack

Christopher wasn't there? But the racing itself was

top-notch? Yeah, no, I had a great.

It was great for sure, who's great.

Yeah, I mean it was Bellman being Louisville.

Good there it is. There it is.

It only took 9 minutes. There we go.

No, no. What was your main takeaway for?

Like, what was your highlight, but was it, let me with flight

line. I'll get to see flight line was

cool, for sure. I don't know how often I'll get

to see something like that in my life, you know.

Hopefully, hopefully we'll get another one at some point, but

that was way up there. That distaff was really special,

you know, just the three of those fillies mayor's, I guess

at this point, pushing each other that way.

And then you know I I think the other thing, I'll always

remember, is how freaking windy it was on Saturday.

Oh my gosh. And I mean, just, I mean,

frankly, It's astonishing. How well everybody did that

weird because it was it was I think we talked about is like

about 10 to 12 miles an hour from being hurricane.

Level winds it was it was remarkable that way and so yeah

I guess that was the biggest takeaway for me the other I

guess just being that you know the Euros are going to dominate

the grass races in the Breeders Cup and now that they've won all

of those races, you know. Nothing is off the table.

You know when you get a bill Buick, when you get a Charlie

Appleby just Picking off races picking off spots.

Oh, Rebels, romance was running a Germany, it's not now, it

doesn't matter. It's better than what we're

doing here. And so, I think that was kind of

the biggest takeaway for me on that side was just that, you

know, we got miles and miles and miles to go the grass side to

catch up with Europe. And, of course, now we play the

game of who's, who's going to study, who's going to stick

around who's going to race, he's going to stay in training and he

surprises of what you've seen so far on that front.

I mean, pretty much what we thought and before we go too

far. We know that epicenters

obviously going to go to study because of his injury.

I'm so we had two significant injuries with domestic spending

epicenter but the the horse Kara Keeneland yeah access to the

veterinarian's. Yep was so quality in some

situations where horses would not have survived.

What they went through both horses are going to be fine,

they might not race again. But they're going to be able to,

you know, enter their stuff careers and be fine and and hats

off to the veterinarian care there.

That was able to really save those two horses.

It's it is the biggest upside of being in Lexington as that you

have things like Rood and riddle right down the street, right?

So it's a testament to the people down there that they're

doing things absolutely correctly.

And like you said, I don't know how long ago it is.

That epicenter doesn't Walk, don't walk him on to that.

Out of that, that that and ambulance frankly.

I mean so I just yeah, it's proved even since we've started

this show. And so yeah, it's good to see

Franklin while they actually, like, literally put the curtain

up with it. You know.

And a lot of people like when I was a kid, you saw that curtain?

Go up. It was done and it was yeah.

It was not good, but you didn't you knew that was pretty much

over and and that was not the case with with epicenter.

And we're just happy to see that that horse is going to go have

Hopefully a really good study career but horses that are, of

course, Flightline cells. For two of the 20 of the 40%

share. Fly line goes for 4.6 million,

which values that horses 125 million dollars is going to

stand at Lanes in that was no surprise there.

There were some Scuttle their that he might race a little bit

as a five-year-old. But I mean, you can't rent this

place out worth it. Yeah, that's cameras.

Well, if you know, we were talking about this with a with

another person today, the that four million dollars is more

than he can earn in Like two races in the US, I mean like may

as well just take the cash from the partial sale and move on.

I mean, it's right makes much more sense.

The other thing, by the way that I should mention the Breeders

Cup is still the best betting in the world.

The last three winners of the last three races on Saturday, in

the Breeders Cup, where Malik, that Rebels romance at flight

line and the pick three still paid forty one to one.

Whoa, that is still the best betting product in the world.

So, I mean, it's not even close. You know what?

Excuse me. Would you could get, you know,

41 21, and it includes Flightline Rebels romance and

freaking me out with that. That's a, that's a good price.

That's a good better product. You've you've been a coffee

machine. Whenever you get that

microphone, like you'll be good. And then you put the microphone,

you start coughing. Are you allergic to something on

the microphone? I don't know the answer to that

but it happens in studio during the radio show, too, so who

knows? Yeah, I don't know, it's kind of

a kind of interesting because hopefully you know, it's feeling

better. You know, otherwise Dan's going

to have to do the show by myself.

I would not be captured by Crush every human being that's ever

lived. Live.

I'll be doing the show day in here pretty soon, right?

Is it going to still happen? It is.

Alright, so now to turn to you as being 684 that damn the Dan

and Mike show so everyone's dream.

That's right. Everyone's watching.

All right, Jackie's Warrior. You know, I've said it before, I

would I just don't trust Steve asmussen in these big spots.

Yeah. Right.

You have said you know, I sat on the on our pre-show and it said,

I would not single Jackie's, where because of what happened?

And then because of the interest in, keeping my cut my ticket

affordable, I single Jackie's Warrior.

Yeah, yes. And and shouldn't have done

that. You know, I should not have done

that. Well, it depends Yankees were

just a little bit because the amount of water they had to put

on the track to stop it from blowing away.

Literally yes, that is not I mean we're talking about crazy

win, right? I mean it was Lifting me out of

my chair. Oh crap.

I'm not a small person and I was trying to keep our tent from

flapping as much and so I'd stretch it 10 out as much as

possible. We would have guessed the win

and I would lift like four inches off the ground, wouldn't

worry? Yeah, four inches.

So the um, I I do think though that the track while listed fast

was more, probably good that it was fast.

It was fair. I mean, the best horse is still

one there racism still ran reasonable times but all the

records came on the turf. Hmm.

And so to be that that gave away, that it was not quote,

unquote fast to be, it was good. I don't think of that as a

controversy. I do think though we need to be

fair to better, and if it's not fast fast, tell him.

It was it two years ago at all? If flight line runs over the

course. For two years ago, he runs in a

buck fifty eight and four. I mean he just does and so that

he ran that quick up front was cruising along at the end and

still ran over two minutes in the in the in the time.

For a long to me spoke to a Whether track than they were

really announcing their? Yeah, I would probably agree

with that. You know, it didn't, we were

arguing right before the classic whether or not it was faster.

If it was night fast you and I were having that conversation

and I thought it looked like it was in pretty decent shape but

then I saw that I saw that time and I had to agree with you like

the definitely slowed him down a little bit.

They had to put that win was kicking so much.

I mean you would have had you would have had dirt flying

everywhere I mean it was it was it did.

I think they did the right thing just list the track of what it

is, what it is. So the better has a better idea

of what's going on. That's all I was.

Yeah, I would agree with that. What did you think about

baffert's weekend? We saw, I'm going to actually

say, he obviously did not want to Breeders Cup race, but he

might have had this star, the rising star Saturday when he won

the first race and then got booed Arabian Night, what was

your take on that horse? And I think we could be seeing

something a great Martha knows that's one of those horses that

you see, and all of the pieces fit, you pay that kind of money

for it. You'd want that kind of wind.

And so to me it was one of the highlights of Saturday frankly,

right? How just absolutely dominant

that horse was. And so now, I'm, did you notice

your horse actually ran third in that race?

Oh yeah, yeah, expect more. There you go.

Yeah. Yeah my little more triangle

thing. Right?

There it is right there. Yeah expect more I don't even

know. I'm Even better.

I was trying everything set up. I'll even bet that race had

barely got to see it but then I was told, you know, again

Arabian Night just blow the field away his I mean to run

seven furlongs and one just under 122 first time out.

Yep. I mean, just tell people how

just amazing, I was that's that's insanely fast.

It was open links. You can actually watch the video

replay at aqua base and, you know, it started the day and it

started the tone of the day before comes out the booze ring.

Down and not a couple booze. It was a lot of well yeah, a lot

of do we were at the end of the, we are at the end of the

grandstand far away from the from that area and we could

still hear very audibly what was going on.

And so that that kind of set the tone of dead dad's opinion, was

that people had lost on their tickets because of bad for the

day before on Bedford horses at least.

I have not of that opinion. I think it's for a different

reason and so yeah, it was, it was noticeable and it was loud

but yeah, no, he didn't have the kind of weekend.

I think that he thought he would.

There's no shame. I And how table random the, the

classic. I mean, I'm going to go ahead

and say it right now. Table wins, the Breeders Cup

Classic in 2023. Sure.

I think that's real possible. And just a, you know,

essentially within a half lengths of horse like Olympia

that had the the year that he did no shame in at all.

That's a gets a probably million-dollar check there.

And, you know, that's a that's well worth the trip from

California Olympiad retired this morning to stud.

So we will not see Olympia next year race, but we will see the

The winner. Goodnight Olive, who will raise

her at 5:00 for the good of the sport is as they said they want

to they want to do it for the sport.

I gave this as likely as I can. That's not what you're doing.

You're going to pick off a bunch of checks and that's okay.

Yeah, that's fine. Just be it is fine.

It's not only what it is. Yeah, right Cave Rock was bad

for each. Other horse in the Breeders Cup

juvenile was about as big of a favorite.

And on the juvenile days, we were going to get were you

disappointed by his second-place finisher?

I mean, is this what we're going to see, sometimes out of out of

to your horses? I mean, yeah, it's more, the

two-year-old thing than anything else and the horses that did run

well in that race. We said, if they improve like,

two-year-olds, do they got a real shot here, they came

through and they wanted. So I don't think there was any

sort of major surprise with that more just that I think Cave Rock

didn't really run a good race. That's what was surprising.

Yeah. But to be fair, it's windy as

bleep, he's out of California for the first time.

They put him in a freaking shipping, container to get him

there. And so It's, it is.

I don't know. It was a c-minus performance for

sure, that horse. That's a great question.

Do we think he comes back at a better level later on?

I'm gonna guess that he does the grounds sometime.

Late winter, early early spring at Santa Anita.

We see that cave rock jam. Yeah.

Something like that. And then we see him back on the

Derby conversation and we have to talk about Cave, Rock and

which Barney's going to go to. So we can run in the derby.

It's really interesting because I always enjoy how bad for

treats is three-year-olds on the trail because he kind of tries

to keep them apart. Yes.

Right. You know so be really kind of

watching what he does with Arabian Night and what he does

with K-Rock and he keeps in Santa Anita and and the spots

that he puts these horses in, you know, I'm assuming that one

will go to Arkansas and one will stick with their traditional

California route and you know, so we get to kind of watch that.

And then of course the eventually, they're gonna even

though even shipped up to Golden Gate to play to pick off the the

El Camino Real for the Preakness with Blackadder.

So it's not like he isn't looking around for his other

three year olds to try versus as well.

Yeah, but it will be interesting to just kind of see where he,

how he points those two horses. And then, of course, eventually

do you think they wait as late as they did last year to go

ahead and switch the The trainers for the Derby point

perspective, because his horses, when they get no Derby points.

Correct, what was the question? Do you think they wait as late

as they did last year? To with Cave, Rock an early

night before they switch the trainer?

Yes, I do. I do because he doesn't run

non-winners of hundred-point races in the derby.

You just doesn't do it. Yeah, that's true.

That's just his style. So I don't think he cares that

way. Okay, well let's see what we got

here. Next Charlie's birthday today so

happy birthday Charlie. I gotta make sure you put that

one out there. My oldest is 13.

Only thing I'll say I talk about it.

I talked about it on air this morning.

My oldest is all is autistic. And it's a, it's a difficult

thing. When you're a first-time parents

who to imagine that your kid isn't normal in some sort of

way, whatever it might be, but I want to encourage anyone.

If you've got young kids, and you think there's something you

could tell cause you're a parent, you can tell there's

something that might be a little harder for them than it is for

other kids or whatever it might be.

Do the resources now are so good.

The people are so kind they they will love your kid the way that

you would want someone to love your kid and so just go go ask

for help. People want to help and they're

the resources. Like I said are just they're

incredible and so he's gonna have a great, he's really

excited to become a teenager today and he's in middle school

now and he's doing the whole thing.

So you're just ask for help. When you need it, it's always

worth it. And yeah, happy birthday

Charlie. I mean, it's been fun to watch

him grow up so he's taller bleep too.

So, yeah, these growing taller and taller.

Yeah, that's fantastic. Is he following you yet?

You know, it's not always about sketch my wife though.

So All right, so the Breeders Cup at Keeneland good or bad.

You like it there door, should it not be there?

Here's my take over all like it's not great from a spectator

standpoint. Obviously it's really tight.

It's really small but it's so important at such a important

location from the Breeders like yep, Horsemen perspective.

Yep, I can totally understand why it's good to be there.

I also feel like because of the wind on Saturday and we probably

had so many people who were just local because of the proximity

to The Horseman, the Breeders and all that stuff.

I think that there was a lot of people who left.

I mean yeah probably I mean I thought the parking lot was more

crowded on Friday than wasn't Saturday.

Let's put it that way. Yeah, I think it was two and I

just you know I I see it as you have to take the good with the

bad there. As far as just look less people

can go and it cost more money. You're really only catering to

one kind of horse racing fan. Would you go to Keeneland and If

we accept that that's fine. But if you want as many people

from as many walks of life to attend the World Championships

of your sport, then you need to go to bigger places like San

Anita or Churchill Downs or a Belmont Park or whatever it

might be. You just have to.

Now all of that said. It's really expensive to go to

the Super Bowl. It's really expensive to go to

the final four. So this isn't without precedent

in American sport, it's not. Like, you know, you could just

walk up and get a ticket to the Stanley Cup finals.

That's not how this works. So I understand it from that

end, but in horse racing, you are really shutting out.

A huge number of people, by going to a place like England

and charging five thousand dollars to go.

I mean, it's worse than the Derby, frankly for average seats

and so it's it is just it's prohibitive that way, but if we,

I'm Eileen More. Please don't do it every other

year. Now if it's 25% of Breeders Cup,

so if it's 20% with something like that, I'd probably be a

little more comfortable with it, but the idea that is going to be

there every other year or something like that is to me,

it's, it's uncomfortable. Should it rotate between the

four tracks Delmar sanity to Churchill and Keeneland?

I'd like to see more tracks involved.

I think New York, deserves a place at the table for sure.

I think Belmonts, absolutely legitimate place to hold

Breeders Cup. I mean, the, whether those

probably the biggest Factor there, but it's a, I've been a

38 degree breeders cups in Louisville.

I mean, it's not 100%, but I think you got a better.

Chance of having them in New York than you do inaudible maybe

maybe but horse Racing's like football you played outside and

whatever the weather is you do it.

So yeah, I'm gonna make it. The weather matters, never leave

Southern California. Yeah, I think we should go ahead

and start a petition to bring it to Horseshoe Indiana.

I think they need an Oaks and Derby prep.

Yeah, there you go. That would be kind of fun, even

better. Yeah, I, you know, there's a lot

of people who there's definitely debate on Twitter on horse

racing Twitter, which is the lowest level of Twitter.

There it is. Yes.

The bottom of Twitter that, you know, there's a lot of people

said, I don't have anything. I need every year.

There's no place better than Santa.

Anita. Sure.

And of course, there's the people who tell you is like, it

should be a Churchill every year.

It's like, I can tell you this. I do think Churchill handles, to

crowd better than anyone, can he just handle the Sun, the scope

and size of the event. It actually, we did the numbers

before the field sizes are about a horse per race bigger in the

Kentucky racist than they are on the California races.

Now, the one caveat is and you talk about this and, you know,

Japanese forces. So, Japanese sources this Yeah.

And that's not good for the sport.

It was good for the sport when they won last year.

And and so I'm with you, I think that needs to be a rotation

where we see Western Breeders Cup so we see Eastern breeders

cups but what that balance looks like, you know, I haven't really

formulated yet. All right.

So yeah I think we'll make sure we're saying Anita I'm hoping to

go. I've now been a scene in either

before I know you and I are planning on going right now.

Is there goes? But you know especially since we

think that our show is getting out more and more popular, which

it definitely is and we appreciate all you listeners out

there for allowing that to be that we think we should.

We will have a seat at the table and Withers meetings for the in

TWA be. And I think I want to try to get

as involved with that organization.

It's possible. We don't want to just be the

podcast or so you Don't do anything.

We want to give back so you know, we'll see.

We'll see, we'll get the last thing.

It's going to have been to Delmar before dunbar's a great

track and it's definitely attracted.

I could see having some similar challenges to Keeneland as far

as how many people can actually host on site for further your

scope. So, you know, the other, the

only Rumblings I've heard, obviously Santa Anita this year,

NBC has the contract for two more years for the next to

readers cups. And there's, there's Scuttle

that they wanted at Del Mar, so they get that full prime time.

I'm classic in the in the sunlight and so that would have

to be out California. So absolutely we might go to

Southern California for two years.

I didn't hate it. When they would go back to back

years at Breeders Cup sites, like to San Anita's to Churchill

something like that that wouldn't hurt my feelings

frankly. And so it'll be like if you

turned on the lights. Oh I am very aware.

I very, very aware. It's Keeneland.

That is the place that you can't do that, right?

I understand, but that's in the and Rachel. 2010 was under the

lights, Churchill running at 7:30 whatever.

Great done before. Absolutely.

All right. Speaking Churchill Downs.

We're going to go onto our, his hair handicapping segment, which

is, of course sponsored by our friends.

At Green Sheet racing got a Green Sheet racing.com and get

your green sheet for the weekend.

It was an interesting conversation again on horse

racing Trader, which is again the lowest level Twitter.

So instead if you paid for pics, then you're not a horse player.

Did you see that each week? Louis, I did I did, which, I

thought was interesting, because that's when I would have said, I

would say that, you know, do you 100% should do your own

handicapping? Yeah, but we've always said that

there's nothing wrong with, especially, when you have deep

deep deep Quality fields to get some validation or to get a

different perspective of what someone else is thinking, and

that's the handicappers at Green Sheet, do an incredible job.

And of course, if you get your green sheet, you'll get Louise,

most likely most likely winner favorite.

He's against and then whatever sequence.

He's giving out that we can, which is the the sea To go out

this weekend is what Louis late pick five for the claiming Crown

at Churchill Downs. Take 5, huh.

Now, you're also doing this thing over with horseshoe so we

talked about what they're doing for Veterans Day tomorrow.

Yes, please. Because this is like, I think

really awesome every year mean Ashley Rachel gave me a bit but

this year I didn't get one but it's okay.

Whatever. Racial living short this year,

I'm not gonna lie, we got a bet. Go ahead Lily talking about it.

So let me put mine up, let me pull this out.

The, you know, I Really want to get the email up.

I apologize. Great radio, I'm sorry.

And I'll give a little context while you're alive.

Louise doing that. So this is Li do the pick five

promotion. Yeah.

Horseshoe gives us, 250 bucks to wager and they put it into the

pool and it is I've put my ticket together.

I made sure to do it before I got here.

I just I didn't want to have to worry about it tonight or

tomorrow. And so I got mine done, it's

$252. There were your give, it a

little bit of leeway on either side of 250 bucks and it all

goes in. They match that donation for a

local organization in Indian any in the Indianapolis area for

veterans. And if you win your bet, they'd

pay you your amount of the BET and then they donate a match of

that to the veterans organization.

And so, what we're trying to do is you're It's rock and a hard

place here because you'd love to hit that longer, take it that is

owns 20 25 Grand to make horseshoe, write a big check but

also just want to hit the damn bet to write like that you wanna

make sure that that happens to. So we're doing a that the

website for that is H fa V. Excuse me, Agent.

Vaf of Indiana dot-org. H.

V AF of Indiana dot-org and they are essentially an organization

that helped you know, homeless vets in the Indianapolis area.

And you know, so, that is They've asked me, this is two

years in a row. Now, they've asked me to do

this. It's really humbling to be

involved with this and so hopefully, that's it.

We put together. I've actually had several people

look over the ticket for me to make sure that I'm not leaving.

Anybody obvious out, at least and so have to have your

opinions in a pick five ticket, but I want to make sure I did my

best for them, so, there you go. Alright, so that's going on

horseshoe tomorrow being very mundane.

Thanks, I get in the pick. Lemons, thanks for all of our

veteran listeners. We really appreciate what you do

for our country and the fact that we can have the freedoms

that allow us to even The show which in some countries probably

won't even be possible. I mean, honestly, so dope and

then we get the broadcast those countries which makes it even

better. Eat it.

Eat it. I will you claiming crowned a

believe it or not, I've had a horse that I owned.

We're racing the claim ground days.

Oh, look at you go down. 2011 or so if I had to guess.

Yeah, and I'm telling you right now.

So what we did is we had a Syndicate which was kind of ran

the kind of like a mutual fund. Like we might had two horses and

we might have four horses. You never know, you know you did

know. I'm But they're the people who

are running Cindy camera constantly claiming horses if we

would have horses claimed and whatever else and we actually

had two horses that day running and cleaning Crown Races.

Neither one of them one but it was still like it was really

really exciting. Like for the for the lower.

I mean really when you talk about there are some trainers

that just like specialized with this level of racing.

No question. They race often but in they know

how to position their horses to pay the bills.

I mean that's basically what these guys are trying to do.

They gotta hit the board and pay the bills and there's a it's

like it's really almost two completely different sports.

When you talk about the horror, the trainers for stakes races

and the trainer's this level going from Breeders Cup to this,

I had to completely change my mentality about how his

handicapping, for example, thank God.

I had done the Friday at a horseshoe Indianapolis because

it's all state breads. So you know, a maiden special

weight might have a 33 buyer as the highest returning buyer, you

know, that kind of thing and And so I getting back into this kind

of racing. The cool part is I think is

because there's these horses run at lower levels, there's more

consistency with them whereas if you run a lot of grade 1 grade

2, you're not going to pick those all off, right?

You're gonna hit the board, maybe a couple times but you

know you're not going to win, you know, not everybody's flight

line, you're not just going to pick all those off your not

modern games whatever and so this has been a cool opportunity

actually to dig back in. It's very different kind of

handicapping and I think this is such a cool day.

Can you talk about that little? Can you talk about how you had

to adjust your handicapped? Sure, I get that.

Part of the show, right? Yeah, so I think a lot of this,

you know, the first thing I do is I look for horses that are on

streaks of winning and the other part of this is the drops in

class here are so much more obvious, okay?

Because if a horse is running in a high-level allowance at

Keeneland, it's better than the company that's here for the

stakes. Race, For example, you know, for

example, in the first race, and I'll just give it away Mike.

If you want to introduce the race, I could talk about my

handicapping that way we can go for, okay, we can do it.

So this is race seven which starts the pick five, we're only

talking. About Star Lounge races today.

This is an eight thousand dollar race mile and a 16th on the turf

going to be real interesting Louis also does just see how the

turf looks at church. All right now, correct, we're

getting some rain tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see what

they're doing on Saturday could be getting dumped by right.

I mean it's not just a little bit because that's honoring.

Lots of lot more wind coming. Phillies and mirrors here, three

year, olds and up, 150 thousand dollars on the line.

Who's did you like this was? You said there was a real

obvious as I would. You said.

Yeah, so you know, this is a starter allowance for horses

that have been at a claiming price Twenty-five thousand

dollars or lower. And so I'll horses that were in

that group. Before I this is a chance of a

single for example. And the reason is sunny one, the

4 is in here. If you look where this horse has

been running, it's been running a Keeneland Kentucky Downs

before that at Horseshoe Indianapolis one at Horseshoe

Indianapolis three back by open likes five open links in a

starter allowance like this. Race came back.

Ran in the ladies Turf. Great three at Kentucky Downs.

Ran fifth to only lost by two lengths.

Toodle ikke. Well, that's pretty horse pull

doulica okay. Wow I was back last time out at

Keeneland, wins an allowance race at the distance - 16th

hundred. Twenty thousand dollar allowance

so comes back off that Kentucky Downs Turf runs well at

Keeneland is going to come over here.

So if that horse runs well at Kentucky Downs and at Keeneland,

I don't care what the conditions are on Saturday.

Sunday, one's going to run a big race.

Keeps James. Graham in the irons here for

Connor Murphy and so should be a really, really good opportunity

for a single. What's amazing?

Is the train. Only Hits it like 12%, and all

of them are this horse and so that's what we're talking about.

When we talk about claiming Crown is a bunch of guys

grinding and trying to make it, you know, trying to make a check

of these races. Like you mentioned Mike with

horses that want to run and our you know our hit the board and

doing the thing. And this is absolutely one of

those races where you can go shorter with Sonny one.

I do think there are some other horses in here that you could

use, if you wanted to bye-bye birdies in this field has won

five times this year, it 11 runs, that's the nine horse, for

lots of Great Estate experience on that horse to I mean tons, In

the Santa Margarita out at Santa Anita in the misdirection

Brandon gets horses like blue stripe, legs Galore, private

Mission Etc. Bye-bye birdie did run second in

in the misdirection which is a listed.

Spritz takes we are going to turns here but that's the kind

of horse that letter Powell has on for a long time.

There's train for a long time. Scuse me and is actually up for

sale at Keeneland right now, and so be interesting to see what he

ends up doing one, an allowance at La Salle, over six, furlongs

on the dirt recently and it's going to try the turf.

Here over two turns and still be interesting as well to see if

she does and less than that. Tyler is on Starship.

Malam Alomar, who really is probably five to one only

because Tyler's on board. Correct, you're happy about it.

I'm going to get Tyler. I'm telling you right now,

Tyler. So freaking awesome Leslie.

Yeah, we met Tyler and you're going to probably have a pretty

good day. I will if you see, Tyler on

something that's greater than 7 1821 like just put you dollars

on it is worth it, take the money.

Alright, we're going to move on. To the next race which is race

eight, another against our allowance rates.

This is a hundred thousand dollar purse.

It's a 64 long Sprint on the dirt for three-year-olds and up.

Louis is this one going to? We're going to spread a little

bit more here, we are. But by the way, this is for

horses that have run at least once for eight thousand dollar

claiming price or less my lifetime.

That's awesome. So you know in this race

actually I landed on three horses.

The one horse coming out of Indiana.

Grand has One is last five. So, something in these kinds of

level of races is, I'm just looking for winners.

What I'm trying to pick my top horses, we get a single in the

last race. Silver, Moon Road here for 21,

Randy, clap. We know that name up at

Horseshoe, he and Sammy, our Bermudas are hitting together

22% pretty solid number here. This horse is definitely part of

that. This is a get out front.

Stay out front type very, very fast running one tens and 10.

Threes in 64, a long five and a half, for a long type races is

actually dropping weight to run in this company has been running

with one. Before and 122 drops down to

120. But those five wins this year,

our after the move to the clock Barn.

So it's been a very, very good move out of the Tom Vander, Berg

bar into the Randy Cloud Barn has won five straight.

And by the way, that includes sloppy, go good, go fast go.

So if the track is even a little bit wet, this horse is going to

be just fine as well. I lay down the ten horse in the

second spot and we're going to talk about a very cool horse in

the third spot. Powerfully-built is coming in

here. This is the Tyler horse at least

partly picking a just because of that.

What is last? Two sits on the Move in the

barn. Here, both at six.

Furlongs, what at Monmouth? And one the Delaware I like

that. The horse.

One over several different surfaces is 6420 lifetime at the

distance. Like I mentioned, 242 last two

out career best speed figure last time out for this six year

old gelding. So there, but they must be doing

something right in the barn. They're not a combination, you

see very often. But when the horse shipping in

from the east coast to be able to book, Tyler, I think is a big

deal and then the seven Beverly Park is running for the twenty

sixth time this year. Holy cow has won 12 of those

races is 345 at Churchill Downs. So this is One of the few horses

in this field and on this day, that has a lot of experience at

Churchill Downs. 22, wins and 42 lifetime starts this horse.

Just picks off starter allowances.

This is what he does Norm cash moves from all over the country.

This year, he is One races at Charles Town.

Belle Terre, Churchill Downs, thistledown.

Did you do do that is Timonium? Which is the State fairgrounds

in, Maryland, came back, one at Churchill Downs and last time I

want to Charlestown And they take this horse everywhere and

he kicks ass everywhere. That's what he does.

So you can't leave him out here tickets.

I mean, you can but you're stupid.

Rob has got Ralph has got experience all ride him as well

raffle bejarano so he knows the horse.

So that's a nice thing as well. So I laid it 17-7 in this race

and of course that horse Beverly park has won three out of his

last four right there. And let me tell people a little

about Timonium. It's kind of like it's kind of

like the Bristol of NASCAR's, you know, the short track,

right? It's kind of the Pimlico of

Pimlico. I want to see how long the track

is. I can't remember, time is its

tiny, right? I think it's, I think it's five

furlongs. Wow, maybe six and so it's a the

fairground tractor knows a lot of people who probably have

never even heard of that track before.

But again, it's a really like an inch.

It's a really interesting place and they do the sales there

because they have so much space. And so it's a, it really does

make sense, especially for the Of where it is because it's

closer to the farms in Maryland. And so yeah, they run a 78 day

kind of schedule there at the Maryland state fair.

And you know we you know if you live in California if you have

Northern California the state fairs are where you go to watch

races in your town. Yep.

I mean good Golden Gate's out, you know, they're running at all

the different, all the State Fairgrounds out there so we

we're just not used to that here, you know, and if it

happens around in the midwest, it's usually harness racing at

some of the the fairgrounds in that sort of thing.

We had Thurber has been on the coast, they'll run.

In in the, in the State Fairgrounds.

So sodium is one of those. Some of the best pictures.

If you, if you want to Google those with the with the carnival

rides in the background is the horses are rounding, the final

turn. Okay, we're going to move on to

race 9 halfway through our card starts also.

The late pick three. This is a seven for a long race

on the dirt. So we'll just start about

halfway up the mail Chute, and we are going to have 125,000

dollars on. This is also 3 year olds and up

little bit of a higher class horse.

Louis, who did you land on in this one?

This is my biggest spread race of the day, and I think the

morning line maker sort of agrees with me on that.

I landed on the 8th again or the one again, as my top horse eight

straight starts, hitting the board for this horse.

Ragtime Blues has been running all over the place at different

levels, including at Saratoga Aqueduct, Laurel, Pimlico Parks

before, that one, at parks, in that race that I mentioned has

been in the, in the, in the breeding Barn, for the last

couple of races as one one of Those rents Second Twice.

It's kind of an every other type horse.

Picks up, Paco Lopez here which I really like and should get it

should get a good ride here. He's a, he's okay being in

second or third. So I don't think the real hurts

him too much. Especially, you know, my coming

out of that shoot at Churchill Downs.

You actually have moved room to move over make an adjustment

once you get onto the make track and so that shouldn't have

dressed shouldn't bother him too much.

Then I went to the five, no burn, who's one half of his

races this year, hit the board in eight of ten that he's

running in his last four races. For example, second first,

second first, before that first, first first, third by 3/4 of a

length. So this horse is always part of

the equation. Are you telling me that we could

have like coming down the stretch in this race?

Because PSI is and Paco Lopez. Absolutely.

And then we could like, like see a brawl afterwards could be

like, yeah, Tyler just blows by at all or said as colleges and

like those dude. And so this horse is

consistently runs with 90, 90 plus speed figures, we're

talking about a seven for a long Sprint.

Aunt has been riding with Dylan Davis.

I think the Buddha Louis, I is a major upgrade here and so that's

a positive has been running in handicaps allowances, an

optional claimers, the last four out.

So in better company as well, this is a twenty thousand

dollar. Breeding job was a 40,000 dollar

sale at the cute list of Timber sale.

Has earned over 300 K it is Lifetime.

One of those horses that I always refer to as Mike, of

course, of a lifetime. And then, the two Divine leader

I Circle here, because I think Edgar Morales is on The

precipice hero being a very, very good writer in the midwest

on the Kentucky Derby around the Kentucky Circuit.

Second last time out at Keeneland in an allowance,

similar level of this by ahead with Edgar aboard, the Queen's

Jewels is back in this race, as well.

Randall, a lifetime best number in that race before that for

back and five back ran first and second at Churchill Downs on

this track. So, I like that as well, 24-6

lifetime at Churchill with a 90 speed figure.

So I think that has a chance to be something, the 12 that I just

mentioned. Is is the queen Jewels.

I mean and I love the Tom Vandenberg florell, Giroux

combination here. One right here.

Yeah. 12:45 22% together at Churchill Downs, their last 18

together, the lat, Tom Tom van osburgh's stats, as well, 21% in

Sprints, and 17% of his horses, who won their last start, come

back and win again. And so while this horse hasn't

put together back-to-back wins in quite some time, he has been

running a company and his last his last five races first s by

3. A third, third by 3/4, and

another win. And so this horse is always part

of the equation and at 12:45 I think is awesome value.

Then it look to the nine. Lieutenant, Junior grade ran a

98 speed figure last time at Keeneland.

So who the heck knows maybe the horse.

Could replicate that. Again beat, Matt craw and

attorney, Michael everybody. My excuse me, last time out at

Keeneland in a blistering, 110 over that six furlongs.

It's so we'll see if that's something that they can, that

they could replicate with that horse.

And then I laid it on the six, as well, family man, because

it's Tyler. And I think that sometimes on

these days, these are the horses that just dominate after

breaking his Maiden at 10K in a maiden 10, Family man has only

run in starter allowance company.

So this horse is used to this sort of level.

So I went 15 to 12 9 and 6 in this race, grab as many as you

can, you know, fail, me and some bleach could be a horse for the

show to write it. Looks like a 10K.

Yeah, I think he'll be out for claim for 10K ohm.

All right, Race 10 again, another star announced, this is

a mile and an eighth on the Dirt 3 year olds and up hundred

seventy-five thousand dollars here.

But we're gonna go to turns for the first time.

Well, As we did in lecture 7 as well.

Yeah, I'm first. Time in the dirt.

Who do we like in this one? Louis.

Very cool race. This is for horses that have

been at a 35,000 level or lower. So you actually get a fair

amount of horses that were probably in from maidan, tag at

that level and didn't get claimed.

So, for example, benevento, the one ran in a maiden, 25.

At a first time out, didn't get claimed, they immediately put

this horse in optional claimer category.

Ran in the Haskell this year. It didn't work out, but finish,

fifth didn't even finish last hope five out of eight horses in

that race. Last time comes back runs at

Pimlico and wins by seven and a half lengths in a listed stakes

and we get to get that horse here because he broke his Maiden

at 25k, it a maiden. So that's a real thing to kind

of look at to what are the conditions of these races,

right? So the fact that he broke his

Maiden at that level, I think goes away because this horse ran

forth in in the slop at Monmouth in a listed Stakes.

Comes back wins an optional claimer, they run them in the

freaking Haskell, right? Doesn't work.

But comes back at Pitt. They give a little bit of time

off, comes back at Pimlico, wins wins for fun and I mean for

freaking fun at Pimlico and so if that if that's the kind of

for p-branes to Churchill Downs just forget about it, this could

be a potential second single in the sequence, but I'm going to

try to beat him just because he's making the trip.

I'm going to try to beat him with decision maker who's a

horse has had success at Churchill Downs.

One last time out that the horse ran here, this horse with with

Tom Vander Berg seems to flip between turf and dirt going from

Turf to dirt last 14 times Tom Vander Berg has won six of

those. So huge percentage 43% doing

that exact thing. So I'm going to hope that that

holds up the form has been there as well.

Brandon Kentucky Downs over a mile and 5/16 on the turf and

was third by a neck that horse was actually in the lead a

furlong before that. So to me that speaks to a horse

that at this, kind of distance is going to be very, very, very

much part of the equation floral Drew back aboard.

They put it back on the turf. Last timeout, didn't like it.

Let I don't hold that against the horse and frankly, I think

that's the kind of race where he jogged in didn't use.

A lot of energy, he's going to have it all here.

So my long shot of the day is actually going to be decision

maker on top here. The 821 price on him, not that

much of a long shot, but I think, I think you'll get eight

ten twelve to one on that horse. And that's, that's a really,

really nice. Number Intrepid heart is in this

race. Tyler, got family-owned is

aboard. This horse has won, its last

run, its last three at Churchill, all 90-plus speed

figures. I worry about that horse as the

morning line favorite because he seems to have a case of the The

s. S s s s s his last five times

out that bothers me a lot but the speed figures are there so

maybe he was just in better company but if he was why aren't

those horses here? Maybe they don't qualify but he

did run in the fort Larned and he ran second, maybe we're

talking about this race a little bit differently.

Had he pulled ahead in that race and then I think you have to

look at the 10. This is a horse.

We just talked about Mike, our nation on Parade.

One that Marilyn Milling classic and absolutely dominating style

if we get any kind of class out of these Ghosts in these fields,

especially from that Maryland, circuit or the New Jersey

circuit. He could be a problem as well.

So 8 15 and 10 in the feature, on this car I'm going to take a

long shot here with number two frosted Grace.

Yeah, sure at 12:40 this horse is coming off to great start

last timeout. Raina, a really impressive win

at Keeneland on October 15th with a 102 speed.

Figure ran a 93 spec for your Churchill Downs, the race before

that 21. Man, this is a horse who's been

in some big time graded stakes races before You know, never

really performed at that level. Sure this is a horse that I

think that could definitely be worth the long shot.

Play with a two-horse okay, race 11, we're going to go mile and a

16th on the turf and we are were for three-year-olds.

And up here, 150,000 our race Louie.

Who's going to win to wrap up? Our pick five ticket here.

Yeah. Lifetime, claiming pressure 25k

or less. I landed.

I agree with the favorite here. Mike maker toggle family-owned

one-night. In towards the four horse.

Here has been running at high level allow its company last

couple times on including a win at Kentucky Downs over that mile

course there again, excuse me if those if those horses come out

of Kentucky Downs and they can run their kind of, doesn't worry

me about the conditions of the turf course, on Saturday at

Churchill Downs. So, I like that a lot.

And then I went to the outside to the 11, which is freedom

matters, of course, this horses from Florida.

And so we're doing all kinds of different distances.

Doesn't do a lot of to turn stuff, but last time he did, he

want it Colonial over a mile, and a sixteenth on the turf.

We've seen a lot of horses. Come out of allowance races at

Colonial and performed really well at other tracks.

And so, looking for that form Again.

One Last Time, Out of Kentucky Downs in an optional claimer

under Ed guards. Ayahs who makes the trip for

this race, which I really like saffy Joseph, Junior ship in

this one. In the two of them hit together

29 percent. So that's an incredible number.

A lot of those are in Florida. I absolutely admit that.

But saffy, of course, going Sprinter out at 23 percent as

well. So I think, He's got this horse

well positioned as well and that I'll look to the nine which is

Big agenda. I'm really talking in the last

one here but I think there's a reason has been running in in

claimers in New York but has been running really well in

them. And so and listen to the last

three jockeys on this horse, Jose Ortiz, I read RTS, Javier

Castellano, you don't book. Those kinds of riders unless you

think you got a serious shot to pick up a check.

And so I ended up for 11 and 9 in that part of the sequence, my

total ticket costs about $180 And I think that if it hits its

freezer pretty reasonable ticket, especially considering

we only have one single. All right, so Louis, we're

gonna, we're gonna end up right here, big things coming for us

in November, you want. Let's just real quick, just kind

of talk about what our post Breeders Cup, you know, white

kind of looks like and as we kind of transition into 2023,

we're going to go for the next couple weeks together as we take

you into the Clark handicap, and we're actually will go to the

cigar my After the week after that as well too.

And then, and then I kind will do will do a live show from

Churchill Downs o'clock Friday by the way?

Probably not. You got that way about yourself

first. You might be there, but I won't

be there. Yeah, I know.

All right, I got Thanksgiving plans with the family on Friday.

Yeah. Okay.

Okay, the wife's family. Okay, yeah, well, I thought

that's why we were talking. Now, that's why we're talking

about. It makes plans without talking

to me first. Like this is just for the show

out there with Daniel. That's all I know.

Oh, you're doing that. Okay.

So that we actually would probably be the show because I'm

sure we're not going to record on that Thursday.

If we record on Wednesday, we might do that.

So we might not repine, I can record on Thanksgiving Day,

great. I'm not against it though, I

don't know. But then we'll head into the

offense dude. But you're not talking about

Thanksgiving Day. That's probably true.

Like the Salukis next week, for example.

Yeah, right at Churchill. So we'll talk about that card

next week. And then after that, you know,

we do get into the into, right. Or, but that's the the Cardinal,

the Fall City, etc. Those are going to be big races

on the 24th, and then of course, think save you a lot of really

great your two-year-old races on Thanksgiving, right?

Yeah. And the goldenrods coming up the

Kentucky, Jockey Club, all those races on the 26th of November.

And so ya know there's lots of good races and then you know,

you know you just have to decide if you're staying on till the

cigar Mi essentially. Yeah.

And then you kind of transitioned talk about what

you're doing. Turf way.

Yeah, so well I mean it's not just hard way we'll be In lots

of different courses, you know, Delmar Turfway.

Those sorts of things that are open in December, January

February. I'm going to start doing

one-on-one interviews with people in the industry that do

different stuff. Whether it's clockers or it is

people on the gambling side or its people on the track

management side, whatever it might be, we'll do some

one-on-one things and then we'll have a second segment of me just

given out a little bit of a sequence but look for those

shows in the winter it will kind of keep you will keep you warm

and toasty and occupied through the the dog days of horse.

And the stories of what happens behind the scenes and who those

people are. And it's a good chance I think

to get to meet some of them. And frankly it's because of an

TWA V that we got the Rolodex that we do now and we'll be able

to talk to more people that way too.

Well, I mean and that's such a cool thing to do just to give

people some insight scoop on on the different jobs that taste

for these horses, this show up in the track and what they do

and what it entails and there's amazing people and these people

that have been doing these for a really long time, you know.

So it'll be kind of cool to kind of Kind of showcase the everyday

Horsemen, you know, and not just that not just the owners from

the trainers and jockeys and stuff like that.

So yeah, it'll be fun. Will try to pull the curtain

back. A little bit for everybody that

listens and hopefully those, hopefully people enjoy the shows

will keep going. We haven't been I'll pop back on

as we get into Pegasus and start talking about what our Eclipse

award ballot. Looks like, for this time out,

which will be a lot of fun and we'll start going straight to

Triple Crown season and you know, we're planning, some big

things, nothing really official dinner.

Just yet. But we're planning on trying to

do some great things and bring you even better coverage in

2023. We think 20 or 30, a big year

for the show. That's basically comes down to

right? Lily what do you all right?

Well we're going to pay the tab. We're going to get out of here.
