Time now for the horse racing, happy hour live from Churchill

Downs for Kentucky Oaks 149. Now here's Mike Lewis and Dan

are welcome in to Churchill Downs.

It is a beautiful Oaks day, this is the horse racing.

Happy hour, Louis. You got something to say, but

all videos and it's a single time.

I hope West. My mom said a program is per

year old daughter. India, most con Nosotros Hall of

Famer. Danny said Don como esta Señor

result. Stop that to be the leather.

See. All right.

There it is. There's a, there's your cinco

DeMayo talk because I'm sure there's people eating some

tacos. Watch some races are already

boat days, right? Crossover, listen, we've got

four minutes to the post Dan and Louis boat like a long shot in

this race. So if you're here, or if your

clothes do you want to get on your app?

Whatever you want to do, what do they need to bet on?

Right here, not a long shot earlier than but yeah, that

helmet one coming down, but down a little bit. 921 right now, the

13 here in this race. Let me get a name for people

into disco. Thank you, sir.

Neither dad nor I into disco. However, Junior Alvarado award

here for Riley Mott and so should as coming out of two

back-to-back, races won over a mile at a maiden at Oaklawn one,

in a mile and a sixteenth at Oakland as well, against winners

for the first time, both Races by, by clear length.

And so should be a real problem. Here keeps Lasix and loses a

pound actually, which I like to. Yeah.

The question is, is he big enough to carry Louis and me?

So, Dan was there. A time that you were into disco?

No, never your Where the right. Oh yeah.

Oh yeah what is the best Disco a be a story.

The platform shoes and the Disco it artist.

Oh yeah. Oh yeah artists artists who is

seven foot two to start with needed.

Six inch platform heels. Yep, that happened.

I love that that have people who was the guy, who was the guy for

the Pittsburgh, Steelers Frenchy, Fuqua, I think okay had

had platform shoes and he had goldfish it in the high heels.

You remember that? Yeah.

I don't remember that. However, I have heard about, you

gotta remember st. Louis wasn't around in the 70s.

I did not expect all. I was born after we, Ronald

Reagan took office now. That was that was big.

That was big. I was Saturday Night Fever, so,

into disco is the official pick of the show?

And by the way, we do have the text line today.

If you are listening anywhere in the world, I know a bunch of our

listeners on the Pod hang out with us today. 50 243 796 8500.

243 79-68 To buy friends at UPS jobs UPS, jobs.com, on the text

line. So let's go.

Well man. We were getting hit by the way.

Just another horse, I do like in this race.

Is the eight Horse music Street. Going off at 6 to 17 Street

sense. So there it is in all the

luminaries. Now laying the olgas walk up

here I mean being with Lane Golden Triangle their eyes you

know it's big deal, it's a big deal and Lanes.

Gold shows up fashionably late to his show leg all the to

york-style Coastal Elite. I mean, just look at this guy.

Check him out. Espn.com this is so much fun to

drive solution because we got EJ and Lane and just in front of us

Russian we got we got Jordan and Matt and m.j. behind us like

this is like a big party for us. We love to party for us.

All right. Yeah, good stuff.

Let's 2013. 7 4 & 8 here. So I agree with you on the

floor, and the top for free, I said eight, but it's good.

You can I said, let's talk real quick about the news that broke

yesterday because I'm sure a lot of people coming in want to know

what's going on with all these defections and what was going

on. Was Savvy.

Joseph, her. There's probably people don't

even know who savy Jones, Joseph is but we had a very interesting

day yesterday. As we're sitting up here

enjoying therby and it began when practical move the winner

of the Santa Anita Derby scratched out with a fever

Louis. You think that this could impact

the race quite a bit? But before I get your take we

haven't heard and talk a lot. So let's hear it.

Let's hear Dan talks about practical move.

Well, inside here. Just you just feel sorry for the

people. Because I thought that horse had

a real chance. The only question in my mind

was, could he get the mile and a quarter and, you know, Mongolian

hero and and Skinner who is also out now?

I mean, I can't remember the last time not in recent history

anyway, that we had these many, this many defection.

The factions on the eve of the Derby.

All three also eligibles are now in.

Yep. But you know you get your right

on top of the rice. And and it happened to me not in

the derby. But in the Belmont, I was part

owner of a horse called best Minister and we were going to

run him in the Belmont. He'd want to stake a small snake

on the undercard to Pimlico and we were actually on our way to

the airport in Denver when we got a call from Kenny McPeak and

said the horse horse has a fever and so we can't run them and

that's exactly what happened to practical move.

So you know, he'll come back, he'll be fine.

Fine. He'll win more races but you

just hate on top of the most important horse race in the

world, to lose a horse. That had a real.

Now send Centurian or stereo. What's, how do you say that

horses? Continue our yeah.

Continue our yeah, you know, that was smart that they scratch

that horse because that horse had no shot to win.

His last workout was awful. So, you know it happens they'll

win more races but they won't win the Kentucky Derby.

In 2023. All right.

Louie, how does practical move B?

Now, the Derby affect the race. I think the thing about him is

usually when we talk in the dirty about early speed Dan, we

don't respect the early speed as a winner.

Yeah. Right.

So a JC's Road or whatever that might look like as the early

speed. For example, still in the field,

not a horse that we expect to win the race tan, right?

Pull story, by the way, on Jason's road, but I'm not

Misfortune the store. Yeah, everybody drink it.

It's not needles, dispersement. The the thing about practical

move is he's fast. Just the fractions were fast in

California and he kept up his pace through the last eight

mile, right? So that was different than

adjacent Cheech. Think it was not cheap, speed is

exactly right. But it also speaks to a horse

like Mandarin hero who was also in that race and was right with

him at the Finish Line, draws into the field because of some

of the deflections and Dan and I will absolutely be including

that horse, for example, absolutely, on our cards.

Part of that is when you lose and we're off by the way, in

this race when you lose a horse with.

Legitimate speed who can be part of the pace setting.

It does change the dynamic of the race because either cheat

you're chasing cheap speed instead of legitimate.

So Dan mentioned, you know, we lost continue our, we lost Lord

miles and that was the sappy. Joseph story that we'll talk

about here in just let's let's use the term scratched out for

that. We didn't lose them with a

scratch out. Yes.

Yeah. That'd be that's fair because we

don't want to they're still with us.

They texture asking if I'm okay for my fault yesterday.

I hope you're okay. Louis he ate before the show, I

ate before the show. I've been drinking already so

I'm fine. So we so When we were starting a

war with the scratches of the continue, our and Lord miles.

Yes, we actually bring into better horses, right?

I mean that no one thing Commander here, I'm cycloned.

I know you respect King Russell. His second-place finish in the

architecture. Be I don't know how things go

better. Yeah, but you think of him as a

better horse and kitchen. Grab our, I mean I think

practical moving Skinner is a real loss of this race, we're

going to have 19 horses in the starting gate.

Now, I mean, Skinner's going to affect the pace this race a lot

to Louis. He was yeah, no, that's the

front Pace. No, not the front page, but the

Face. Absolutely yes.

So here, yeah. They're the horses are out.

And so they're they're coming down the back stretch right now.

Are 13, is in third place. Looking good, moving up, moving

on E2 and things that I liked is in dead last no fours, women.

No, I'm talking great. No.

Oh yeah, dead last. Well I think we're the only one

here that said you like no no no, Adam Lewis, thanks for 1 and

we come on. It's not like use a long shot.

Come on with. This 1313 get up here.

Good day. Nestle live reaction to come on.

13. Oh my goodness, Louis.

He's fallen. Oh my goodness.

Now, he's losing you, besmirched by a horse.

And now the 30s behind the eight.

Thirteen's done. Hey here, come here comes a one

at 30721, the seven up, the rail at three, two one.

Oh man, might we get a 30721, we have read a lot, the 7th at

three, two, one, who was my second selection will come

through here. So they that's a seven.

I had 27 second. All right, so a couple

observations so far. It's been very chalky this

morning already Fair. Yeah.

Well and people need to know the lowest person out.

Today is a hundred twenty thousand dollars, right?

Dan made a joke. Yesterday I have more money in

my pocket than they're given out.

The courses are being claimed for here.

We're not getting that kind of race today, we're getting the

highest quality of horse races today, Dan?

I think you would agree. Absolutely just ran an optional

claimer for 134 freaking thousand dollars and so what

you're getting are many steaks to begin the day, even the main

special weights, these are royally bred horses owned by

serious groups, serious training and so the throughout the day

the prices might be a bit little bit lower which is why you might

need to get creative exactas trifectas, Maybe a little pick

free where you punch it for more than 50 Cent's, you play

football or something like that. So, we have seven stakes races

in the first one is coming up next with race 52.

What we'll talk about here in just a little bit, that was Ben.

So I was going to say, it's been chalky.

It looks like the rail is live. It looks like you're cycling is

laughs today. Yep.

Anything else that you has observed from being out here in

Turf course, is playing incredibly Fair.

Yes, if you have a good turf wars they have a chance to win.

Yeah it is closer to winning. Frontrunners are winning.

The speed of the the the clips essentially, the fractions as we

call them in horse, racing are all very normal and very usual

and so the turf course should lend it.

If the best care for us to show up today, they will win the

races. Okay?

So then going back to the news that kind of broke yesterday and

then one story that's thought I was going to break and then it

looks like it's gone completely the way.

I think we can kind of go that route to Saffy is suspended by

the Kentucky horse racing trainer.

Saffy Joseph jr. As florida-based trainer was

suspended after. He is a trainer who had to the

horse desk. Both of the deaths that happened

with his horses were non accident-related, Churchill then

came behind the Kentucky Horse, Racing commission and suspended.

Savvy Joseph Junior from all of their properties.

So did you I'm sorry. I want to make sure we get this

right. The state Stewart came out.

And scratched all of his horses from the weekend, which includes

Lord miles in the derby, right? And wider wider.

Wider Mario in the Churchill Downs.

Yep, both great ones. Do know, and then the church.

Okay, behind that. And said, you're not allowed to

train at any of our tracks. You're not allowed on the

property. Very important to understand

that there's two completely separate entities her, a natural

Downs, a private entity. The state of Kentucky, Stewart's

paid by your tax dollars if you live here in the Commonwealth,

came out with that ruling first, it should be said.

And the wording of that let me pull up the wording of that

because it was strong. It was, but I think it's fair to

like the way they worded it and we will come up with the exact

wording. It something to the announced

that they're going to protect the horses, the jockeys and the

horsemen. And the way I take that they're

not necessarily saying that saffy is guilty.

Well, they can't, they can't, they can't say that.

Now, then here's can say, they can say, we don't want him

running the horses and, and, you know, because they haven't and

and who was it. We had a guest yesterday, John

ChaCha. Ava who said we may never know,

you know? Right.

Well I wanted to ask you about that.

Yeah, so the process here so people understand horse goes

down, right, right? Dave, and the horse off, they

take it to UK, right? We've got the lab.

There they go. They go to UK.

They do necropsy it essentially an autopsy on a horse, and then

they come back with your results.

Darren this morning, says be about 10 days, okay, do you

think there's any chance they've started?

And they went. You can't let this guy racing.

It had their hands. I don't trouble me a conspiracy

theorist or - no, no, I'm agreeing with you now.

All right, something had to happen.

Fairies and some and just so we know the difference there have

been four horse deaths. Is it 5:00?

Now there have been four that I know of was training for no

reason. Yeah.

And and you know the ones, the want the breakdowns during the

running before strips on the grass.

That's a different thing than having a heart attack after.

Yeah and two of Joseph horses the to that he lost he didn't

break down on the track. They basically after they had

run had a heart attack and died so that the state had to know

something more than that for them to come back and say Joseph

can't run a horse this weekend at Churchill Downs.

So but but here's what I want to say.

There. And I don't want to be morbid.

But horses are going to break down absolutely horses.

As we said, our thousand-pound animals that you can put your

thumb and your index finger around their ankles.

You have January and they're right there.

Your dad is there is going to be breakdowns.

That's part of the game. It's just, it's not just like,

but thousands of people die every year in car accidents.

We don't say let's do away with with cars.

And I mean, I did but mostly that's a hard.

I mean, that's a hard line to take, but then I saw people say,

oh, that's inhumane to race these horses.

Let these beautiful animal happen in the field, but wait a

second Mike, do you know how many of these beautiful animals

there would be if there was no racing?

The answer is 0 0 0 because that's what they're bred to do.

Farms in Lexington aren't going to spend millions and billions

of dollars breeding horses. So they can stand out in the

field and look pretty. So but but so that part is part

of the game. Unfortunately I had a horse

breakdown and had to be put down right here on this stretch that

we're looking at Churchill Downs.

But Joseph is something more than that and and I think for

them to say no you're not, you're not innocent till proven

guilty. I think that's the right thing

to do for leisure enjoy. This is the a I take it and I

think Louis will kind of agree with his logic to some degree

and can I look at it? Like number one, all the

eyeballs are on this right now, they're dealing with this

baffert situation that they've got to make sure that all their

eyes are dotted and their teachers across, they see and

unusual circumstances for two horses in the same day to go

down. Basically, with non injury

deaths at the at the Churchill Downs with and they're looking

for the common denominator. So they're going to eliminate

the common denominator because that makes That's logic.

That makes sense, right? I mean, whether or not you think

it's sappy. Is a, you know, what other you

think about, saffy doesn't really matter.

It's about eliminating the common denominator, they can get

more information and figure it out.

Because if this have a horse goes down with the jockey that

jockeys life is in danger. I mean, so from the Stewart's,

the exact quote, for the betterment of racing the Health

and Welfare of our equine athletes, and the safety of our

jockeys, all horses trained by trainer saffy.

Joseph Junior are scratched effective immediately and until

a further notice this action is taken after consultation with

mr. Joseph and includes after

consultation with either and includes Lord, miles, who's

entered in the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby statement

from the from Ray, Perry Secretary of public protection

cabinet, Kentucky is committed to being the global leader in

safety and integrity of horse racing.

We fully support the stewards actions today to ensure the

safety of our equine, and human athletes.

While an investigation is on going into the unusual

circumstances surrounding these tragic fatalities.

You look so I came on yesterday and I thought he did a really

nice job of pointing out that Churchill does not contribute to

the, to the force injury database.

That's a problem. It is, they need to be better

has happened. They need to be better, and I'm

standing here and I love this place.

I come all the time. I'm credential to every single

race that will happen at this place this year.

I heard a man say he likes this better than Cleveland.

I did not hear that so I have to work with him five more days

next week. So I'm not going to take any

shots at Churchill. I'm here on their dime.

I'm very powerful. We don't know.

With church, we're not taking a shower right now.

This is just common sense contribute to the database

because if we have all of the information we're going to make

better decisions. Yeah.

And we're going to make better moves down the road in the

future. That's all I'm getting at.

It's not about, I'm not bashing Churchill.

I'm just saying oh no process need.

I'll be back. I wasn't commenting on that.

I agree with that 100%. I was commenting on the racing

part on the fact that you guys like Churchill better than and I

don't know this answer, you all might know the answer either,

this Keeneland different, did they?

No idea we'll be using a horse racing commission.

Thing is the Churchill thing, Churchill thing, they do not do

it for Fairgrounds. They do not do it for Colonial

for the places that they own that they operate.

They do not do well. So, anyway, that's the big story

there. The one thing I just want to

caution people, things happen, headlines, go out.

And we as a society make judgments off headlines way too

much. The other part is that you

mentioned that I think is absolutely and this white bead

and starts call me a conspiracy theorist together.

It is Derby week, man. And so making a very public Like

move on saffy actually makes both PR, but it all makes, it

makes double sense, PR, and just safety of everybody.

Absolutely. So, and, and mope actually.

Yeah, it affects, it gets better gets banned for, but cream,

possibly, then, if horses are just dropping dead on the track,

you can't have that. Especially, you know, and and

that's that's the way it has to be agree with you.

What Churchill is saying, what Churchill is saying, they set it

to baffert. They're now saying it to Joseph,

Don't mess with our biggest week of the year.

No, no, no, no, no, not the right we want?

No, this is a celebration. We make most of our money on

City shuts down for three days. Exactly.

Exactly. And so they're saying don't mess

with our game boys. You can you can do that in

California, you can do it in Florida.

You're not doing it here Derby. We all right, a couple of

things. People need to know this is the

horse racing. Happy hour hanging out with you

on ESPN. Louisville here on ESPN 680.

1057. If you're living on a smart.

Speaker in your car. However you're hanging out with

us today, we really appreciate it.

Reminder some programming that's going on.

On this station will have Derby stuff until about 7:00 today.

Till 7:30, after us is the NBC National coverage.

We're on 1:49 here, tomorrow from Churchill Downs.

And then to 27 tomorrow, to 7:30 tomorrow, for Kentucky Derby

149, the presentation on ESPN rules presented by Kentucky,

fish and wildlife FanDuel racing Kroger in naira bets.

And of course, the front side covers from Cox.

Has everything Liquors Kroger? And FanDuel Racing.

We personally have presented by our friends at Horseshoe

Indianapolis and I wanted to talk about them a little bit

live racing tomorrow in Shelbyville just east of

Indianapolis. If you're in that market, a cool

day to go there, not pay fate thousand dollars to go to a

horse race and you can bet on all the races, they're all the

races here. They'll have a nice party going

up there. It's one of their busier days of

the year. So it's an excellent chance to

go, hang out with them. We're also sponsored by our

friends over at Mays plastic surgery and Aesthetics will talk

with chat tomorrow. Yeah, dr.

Chad maze. He is a part of The Syndicate, a

part of our big. Five tickets to lutely with

Sleazy and strudel and all those guys.

And so we will make sure that we do that.

But I'm very pleased to bring a new friend Annie's mon plaisir,

who's joining us here from amplify and how to make sure I

prefect and lots of different things and these are you I'm

very well. How are you guys Happy?

Okay. Happy.

Oh, gee, dad wanted to have you up here.

Want to talk about? Amplified a little bit and what

you do? Because there are so many things

people come here. They see this, right?

They see the track, they see the horses running, they don't know

that. Fifteen hundred people working

on the backside or how many assistant trainers.

There might be in all these kinds of things.

What is your role in horse racing?

I'm the executive director of amplify horse racing, which is a

501, c, 3, non-profit, with a mission of creating Pathways for

Youth and Young adults to get involved in the industry.

And so a big focus with that you know unlike other horse breeds

and disciplines it's not like you know a kid can just go out

and buy a thoroughbred and start riding and racing their own

Thoroughbred, right? So our main focus is on careers

and the fact that you can have, you know, a really amazing

enriching career working in the third, a bread industry.

And you do not just even in a Hands-On capacity, but you have

to have media, are you have to have marketing people?

You know, you have to have people who are involved in the

hospitality side, as well as focusing on all the hands that

it takes to get a horse up here into the paddock and out into

the Starting Gate, to start the race.

And are you lexington-based? I am.

Yeah, we consider ourselves National.

This is like our year of really growing nationally.

Awesome. And where can people find you?

They can find I will really active on social media.

So at amplify horse racing on Instagram and Facebook and then

amplify racing on Twitter. So we're going to be we're going

to have lots of stuff will be posting on Instagram today

that's kind of our main platform.

So, you know, we try to have a lens like educating people about

what's going on. So, if there's a young person

that's watching The Oaks and Derby for the first time, you

know what questions might they have, that we can explain in

more details. They can understand it better

like is so excited. Why?

She's in, she's introducing people the horse races.

I love it. That is actually why we had to

show honestly, like, we want to, we want to be a way to bring

people into the sport. Educate them about how to enjoy

the sport, whether it's gambling or just having a cigar enjoying

the day of the tracks, you know. So I love, don't have the kids

smoke cigars, don't do that. Yeah, Now the bar taken.

What? Not?

Give us your background. He did you have a background in

the Thoroughbred industry. Yeah, it's funny.

I did not whatsoever. So I grew up near Fargo North

Dakota and buddies from Fargo on Twitter.

Yeah and he survived that's right.

We gotta own it. You know, never worked.

You have a wood chipper. I know where you can find one

How funny? But yeah.

So so I actually saw the movie Ruffian when I was 12 years old.

And that's what inspired me to really want to get involved in

racing. It's just, it was a really, her

story is so beautiful and depicting like, how much these

horses really love their jobs and they're bred to run.

They love to race. And then also the human equine

relationship. And then we do have a really

tiny track in Fargo called the North Dakota Horse Park.

So, I did just about any job. Job that you could possibly do

there, it's like you show up to a small Racetrack and you're

like, can I have a job? And they're like, great.

Here's five jobs, you know. And so, I ponied.

I worked in Communications. I learn how to gallop I was the

official clocker at one point. Wow.

And that was a really good, you know, stepping stone to work my

way up to all their internships and yeah.

So, do you have a pig today for the Kentucky, Oaks Yoke's is

gonna be Botanical, okay? Um, I do have a friend that a

couple friends that have a connection to her so you know,

they're pretty high on her for you.

Like a brad Cox corset horse at Churchill Downs.

I mean, yeah. You like a brad Cox horse at

Churchill Downs. What a bad way to handicap.

I'm definitely a little bit surprised that she, you know,

like morning line is for 21 that she has such low odds but what

would you gonna bet on it if you're going Bell honor, I have

good news for you. The last I saw she was up to 8

to 10. Yeah, there you go.

I love to see that. I actually really interesting

way. I really like Wonder Wheel today

as well which some of Mark hasse's horses.

It seems like they can have a couple clunker races and then

they come back really strong and you know the the last couple

races that I've seen her and I just haven't been very impressed

with her physically. And then the last couple

mornings watching her train she's just Glowing.

So I think she could be coming in to it as a you know an

interesting. Slight long shot, love it.

Well thank you very much for joining us.

I think I want to mention we've discovered from the website.

We have many Hispanic listeners. And Anis does a, she does a

program in Spanish, called Lottery fact with a darling be

sky and Claudia spadaro. Is it weekly?

How often do you guys get together?

Okay, so this year we're kind of more focusing on, you know, the

lead up to Big races, so yeah, they can find us on the

Instagram of America's best racing.

It's usually Thursday nights at 9 p.m. okay.

So that's after the horse racing, happy hours ago, hang

out with them. After I really appreciate it was

great to meet you today. Thank you guys so much.

Thank you. Awesome.

Thanks, have a great day. Okay, we're gonna do this.

We're gonna go to a little bit of an early break.

We're going to come back. We got three stakes races that

we're going to handle. I pretty much live because the,

the fifth and the sixth race are going to be during our show, the

seventh race is right after our show and then we'll start

handicapping starting with race 8 and working towards the

Kentucky, Oaks in the free time. So and then we got our man,

Jaime Brewer, who's going to join us for a segment after we

get famous Tennessee, horsepower, never ever, ever,

ever back off. Yeah, it listed get out of here,

he's already talking. Craft is all about Tennessee

over Kentucky. I do, you know, I mean, we'll do

a whole segment on it next. All right, we'll be back after

this. Welcome back to the horse

racing. Happy hour live from Churchill

Downs, for Kentucky Oaks 149. Now here's my glue and Dan.

Alright, we're back here at Churchill Downs.

We're joined with by our good friend, Andy Brewer.

All right, thanks guys for kid. You'll have me.

Oh, I'm so honored because not only am I here with Big Mike and

Louis, but we got the Great. And it sold a horse King of the

jump shot. That's right.

Up a real Thoroughbred stood up telling you don't tell Danny

when I say about people from Tennessee, he is.

Yeah, I know you're just jealous as what it is because you went

to Kentucky so on. That's okay.

Teddy bear from horse racing scoop, you can go check out his

stuff, tell people your Twitter feed, all that kind of stuff.

So you can catch me. I do some handicap it on.

Days on WS radio. I've got a handicap and spot

during drive time. I usually there's about 720.

Cool, I also have stuff on their website and then I've got the

horse racing scoop.com website - and I've got a YouTube channel,

and all that good stuff. I'm trying to catch up with you

guys. I'm not there yet, but I'm

chasing you. Yeah, that's true.

You're not caught up. So the we met Danny and a cool

thing that happened was Danny is the first guy to join the

National Turf Riders from Tennessee which is incredible

for the first podcasters to get in and so we were in the same

class. Is awesome will also always be

classmates and so we met him this last year at Keeneland for

for Breeders Cup, but you're out of here.

I know you love coming to Churchill Downs.

It, what are your spots? Keeneland, of course to kind of

it's a weird thing to say, but being a Tennessee and what do

you consider your local track? I've it's Churchill.

This is where I spend most of my time because they got longer

meet, you know? The kingdom meat is fantastic.

But it's so short. Yeah, sure.

You know, I mean, first of April, end of April is gone in

October, same way. First of October.

End of October is gone. Churchill.

Do they have, you know, the three different Meats?

The spring meet goes from the the first of May to the end of

June and then they got that short September meeting.

They got the November meat. So, Churchill is probably my

home track Keeneland in the Triple Crown have one thing in

common, which is because of how keeneland's schedule is at the

end of their schedule is Breeders Cup, right?

So they have to run their best races first and then in the

spring it's the end is Derby. So they have to run their first

year at their best racist first and so the you know the Derby's

the first of the Triple Crown and Keeneland has that same.

Agile is as Churchill Downs. Yeah, yes, exactly.

And that's kind of interesting point that you brought up

because most tracks build toward the end of their more run, the

big piece at the end of their meat.

I guess it's the tractor. It's actually closest to

Tennessee would be Kentucky Downs.

But you talk about short meets, that's seven days a year.

Seven days of bliss. Oh, I'm going to tell you what

Kentucky Downs. If you want to really see some

good races and make some money, that's the place to go.

If you're guessing right because unpredictable, you know, some

horses, love it, some horses don't but the payouts are can be

tremendous and with their per race payouts to The Horseman.

They have brought in so many good horses, you know, and it's

only going to get better. I heard an interview with Ted

Nicholson who runs the racing part of Kentucky Downs and he

said, I mean their cheapest race.

This year, the main races are 150,000, he said they're not

only hearing from trainers around Country they're hearing

from European countries to come in and run this year.

So but the quality will only get better, I'll only get better.

And that's right. It's the only European style

course in the United States. And they have the highest per

race payout of any track in the United States.

So, yes, it's a big drawing card for them, for sure.

All right, guys? Listen, as much as we will learn

all about all this great stuff. We got the horses coming on the

race for the fifth race. People want to know who to bet

on this is a big deal because this is the alley Sheba.

And is a mile and 16th on the dirt.

But we have art collector. Here, we have last year's Derby

sperm in a rich strike, which hardly ever happens at the Derby

winner. Come back and race and then rack

Cox's West will power is taken a whole bunch of money in this

race short field. We're going to scratch the seven

Giant game. So there's gonna be a six-horse

feel. We're going to do a little more,

you know, just a little. We're going to just talk about

Sandy to hear a little bit of guess, you know, Basics course

out so hou. Like in this one Louis who do

you like here man? Okay, so I think the real

question is here, do you trust the favorite enough to get 60

cents on the dollar or is an art collector at 12:56 better value

or the Derby winner, who loves this track at 8 to 10.

How would you lean there? Well, you know, I think that the

race is a little short for Rich strike, just because of

mountainous. It sounds right, I don't know.

So I'm gonna go with smile. Happy the kidding me.

Peak oars I think that's the horse.

It did give you really good value.

Having to 171 right now I've horse and I think he's 2 for 2

in the money on the track 1 win 1 second place or maybe at the

distance. I think that's what it is but

yeah I think smile happy may give you your best value overall

and perhaps you know you put West will power on top and you

throw a couple other underneath and to lower your ticket price

but hopefully you can cash with that way.

All right, then what about you? Who do you like in this?

Well, I've got Wes willpower single in.

Early pick five, got it but I had no idea that it would he

would be I mean I knew he'd be favored.

But you know, in a field with this quality, I mean with with

art collector, Last Samurai is, is changing jocks to Luis saez

and he's for, he in his four starts this year.

He's won two steaks. Rich strike you mentioned.

Smile happy. I think West will power wins the

race, but you can't take three to five in this field.

Old. It's a real real strong, Louis

and opinions, and I agree with Dan, I think.

If you're playing to win bed, here you go with a horse like

art collector because 41's a nice number or a smile.

Happy at 71, what's interesting? He's the only other horse that's

dropped in price is 81 morning line down to 7 to 10.

Other people agree, with Danny here, but I just I'm a dance 325

on a wind bed here. You got to really like that

horse. Now I understand if Dan's

talking about, you know, early sequence have you seen the wheel

pays for the Five Dan I have not.

They they have to be, they have to be zero because there's been

one favorite after another win. My third.

I want Dan is very good at this. I want you to guess what?

The what the pay is going to be our Wednesday.

The early pick five, the payoff is $74 240 lat.

Oh my goodness. Wow.

Pablo was willpower, right? Yeah, that would be a nice

little play. How big is your ticket?

Thirty-six bucks. No it was a little bigger than

that but less than 100. Oh yeah, lesson the home is

great. I can get better than two to one

on your money. Yes.

Value there. And you'll live in it.

Then right up. Right.

My girl like that. Alright.

Games by critic. It look, I want a 411 yesterday,

dance on the precipice of the barely pick five here.

I mean, okay, they can do whatever they want with talking

to the governor on the backside with that other show.

Just get out of the way. I will be fine.

That's right. I want my bed by getting us his

head. Attaboy.

All right. What else is surprised you about

being out here? Danny.

Well, you know, I think that I saw the grandstand down there

last Saturday when I was here to watch morning workouts.

But you know I walked inside the the the club part of it.

Oh it's fantastic. That is a fabulous fabulous

addition to Churchill Downs down there.

I mean credibility racetracks would love to have that as their

grants and oh, Lord have mercy. I mean Johnny, yeah.

Yeah, that's the whole thing. Yes, right.

Well, I think what we're excited about, maybe you'll come up on a

Saturday or Sunday during the fall, but a little football

college football. They're going to the sports game

will be live here by the end and then we'll be able to get some

horses and bet some football same time, could it get any

better? Maybe the girls are now that,

you know, Danny's from Tennessee and Dan is not so excited that

will left us as he calls us. Are you excited to have will

Levis as a Tennessee? Titan will, you know, I really

am not a big pro football guy. I think the kid can play.

I think that Tennessee Titans needed price of fresh air at the

quarterback spot. You know, I kind of being a

homer. I kind of hope they drafted,

Hinton hooker surf in a seizure, but I was wanting to see happen,

but, no, I think that the kid can flat play and it's good that

he'll be wearing the the blue down there in Tennessee.

Do you have any other place today on this card that you

think are real good? Is it a Caravel?

Who do you like in the Oaks that kind of stuff because we are

here for Friday, okay? So you'll I think that wet paint

is she has been lights out. She's training.

Fantastic of talk to Brad Cox about her.

She's just really on her game. Her closing kick.

I said it sweeter than the smell of Magnolia Blossom.

I mean, it really is. She could pack it up and down,

but I kind of like Norm Cassie tortoise to South lawn.

I think it was then that she will give you good value.

I really like Norman, it would be a great short for Norm, being

a Louisville guy. I grew up here and grew up at

the track and under his father and all that kind of stuff.

So, I like South lawn and you know, I don't know, I'll say

this. Did you guys see the and tell me

no lies video gives you of what happened with her, if she runs

like that. I talked to Peter better this

morning. He's doing great, she's

fantastic. Said you something happened, and

she got spooked sure. And she's so geeked up, and that

was why she killed, that's part of the that's part of the

intricacy of Derby week is, these forces are used to going

back side, and it's Tranquil, it's quiet.

It's calm. And then they get back there

this week. This 5,000 people walking

around, is totally different people everywhere, you're right.

And something spooked her. He said, she is so geeked up.

So I'm thinking and tell me, no lies, she might be there at the

end. More, like a really great kid

stuff. Another one that I like is I

like his other horse, get her and get her number, which I

think he runs tomorrow and the Churchill Downs.

So I think, I think that Peter Mills bringing a pretty strong

hand. I say go and then Actually get

to this the first segment but there were some rumors

circulating yes about Forte. A video came out salt for Taste.

Humble 40 looks great this morning on the track.

Looks like the Forte things totally miss, you know, was one

of the water and this horse is gonna race Fletcher loves him.

I think, I think so, you know, I was back there at the barn

yesterday, he looked fantastic, he was getting his little

muscular treatment, all that stuff was back there again this

morning. He looks fantastic.

You know, I saw him jog around the track, I think he's good the

all. The sources that I've spoken to,

I did not speak with Fletcher directly but all the sources

that I talk to that did talk in said that the horse is fine.

So, tell me. We're now that we're at the

Derby. What is your approach to deter

be? Do you bet you try to bed who

you think are the best horses or do you try to bet the best

value? I think it's a little bit of

both. I think that you want the horse

who's coming in the hottest, which I think is Angel of

Empire. But it's a who's who you think

is going to be the best tomorrow?

Not necessarily the best horse but who's going to be the best

tomorrow? And so, I think it an 8 to 1.

I'm all arranged, all of Empire because like I said, I think

he's really coming in hot. You may be from Tennessee, but

but us Danny's think alike. I like I like Angel vampire

tomorrow. And I, then The two fillies you

mentioned, wet paint and Norm, Cassie's Philly, South lawn,

we're on the same page. Landing, how about that in

Tennessee and Kentucky guy agreeing on something that's

new? Stop the presses.

See the It media would hate this, they would hate they hate

it. Yeah, yeah, we get Blankenbaker

up here and he starts agreeing with us and then be all trouble.

So the horse races are approaching.

The Starting Gate is almost post time.

You got a couple more minutes to get your bed in again minutes.

He got about 90 seconds. Yeah well by the time they load

you got some time you got a couple minutes what was

interesting. I noticed Danny did you see this

your horse they brought him to the back of the Starting Gate

about seven or eight minutes ago and while the other horses were

way up the Rach warming up. Yep.

They've had smile happy down there, right?

Looking at the crowd right by the Starting Gate and he's been

there a good long while and he'll load last.

This is just what they do with him.

Dan. This is just who he is.

She'll watch all the other horses go online.

They do their thing and then smile.

Happy needs a little bit of extra help.

When going into the gate, he's just that kind of horse.

You see this a little bit. I remember you'll see this with

Japanese horses tomorrow where they're where they're walking

walking walking walking maybe even on the turf course.

It's before the Kentucky Derby because they just are so used to

doing those huge long workout. Yeah.

They really need to move their legs.

I was surprised you didn't jog back, but smile, happy.

I think it's more of a temperament thing than anything.

He's loading in the gate right now.

Not too happy about it. They're working with him.

He really does not want to start want to go in the game.

Not what he does, not like the gate.

And and so, sometimes these horses, they get the horses near

the gate so that they get comfortable being around the

gate and them when they move them in there a little bit more

comfortable, but yeah, he's just never been a horse.

I'd like to go into the gate. Might have it here.

As I said, they've got. They got, they got Aid

assistance, starters, pleasure. All right.

Look like five guys, getting are insane.

You know, I, we joke about the different tracks and different

things. The gay cruise, The outriders

Churchill Downs. Keeneland, they all do a great

job talking. We're really spoiled here.

All right. Ready to go together, the

movement out of the to horse there and they are off here in

the alley Sheba. Great too.

Dan I'm with you, this is a surprisingly short race at a

mile and a sixteenth Danny brought that up you would think

this would be a mile and an eighth race with older.

Horses, you think? But I don't know whether it's

because it's earlier in the season for some, right?

That's why they run it a mountain and 16th you go.

All these guys are coming lightly, racing their here, West

will powers on the lead but he's not getting an easy lead.

First time happy they're not moving over the opening.

Quarter was 24 and 1, which is very favorable for him, very

favorably on my own and 16th, extremely favorable.

Just so people know if you're listening you're not in Kind of

need a horse racing. Sure, we'll see 22 seconds and

that's a very fast quarter of a mile.

The 2324 is a little bit more on the Normandy, like 23 and 1/8

23.8. Yeah, is about par.

Yeah, I would say that anything above that is slow and anything

below, that is a little fast. I didn't give me about this

place. You considering the distance of

the race, right? So his horse here, smile, happy

right there tracking. And here comes a, I've got this

looks like a great finish coming here.

That's real healthy ready to him.

He's pressing they're going to be coming down the stretch here

they are on the turn. Now here come the top three

horses smile, happy doing a great job art collector on the

outside. How about the miles per hour on

the big screen? It's a new edition art.

Every winter is way back art collector.

Danny Danny car collector. Trying to close.

Damn, that's willpower is going to get beat right here, Dad, he

gives it out cold on the show. And by the way, I put that I put

that $2 across the board on that horse right here.

No 51 here of the one guarding like second West.

Willpower actually got a little, she going there and I tossed.

My lap. I look stupid.

Now, Andrew strike, might still be running.

Right? Was dead.

Last at last rich? Rich strike won't win another

race. You know, the sad part about

rich strike, and I said this on my, my Derby podcast but every

preview podcast, I'll say this. He may never win another race,

but he won the dog on Kentucky, ever.

Take that away from him, I don't know that.

He will ever win another race, know what?

Depends on where he runs at what in the higher stakes, races and

likes it. I think this race is just too

short for him. I was surprised that they

bypassed because they could have run him at Keeneland and course

you know who am I I'm it's like me trying to tell Dan that's

what had to shoot a jump shot and I mean I don't these guys

don't need listen to me but I was curious why they didn't run

him in a little bit longer race at Keeneland instead of running

it. In this race at a mile and 16.

All right, what's up speaking to Kentucky, Derby winners, who

your top be able to three horses on that race tomorrow, angel of

Empires who I'm going with on top?

If I'm going to take a swing of course I like Forte.

I mean I think Forte is without question going to be their

accomplishments. Yes right.

Yes. But confidence game.

I think Confidence Game. Is it can be, he's the one.

He's the boss. He's officially become the

bottom. Reincarnate is the most curious

one on the morning line. For me, he's 15. 21.

He's got Johnny V, ride them and he's never been out of the money

which is kind of this kind of interesting to me that he's at

12:45. Get what say something?

- I don't like the way he's looked in the mornings.

Okay. All right, I don't think he

likes the surface and he may not.

I was just curious. Why?

He considering all the things surrounding him why he would be

at 50 to 1 but he's now at 1701. Yeah.

Well there's some local connections to go along with

that. Yeah yeah but but upon some

money in there, he's Danny Burger.

Give us all the socials again so people can find you.

What the hell, your social media social media.

Okay, we got em on Twitter at sports Brew.

You can catch me on wgns radio on their website also catch me

on horse racing scoop.com, got a hunch bet, a bunch back a horse

and get paid. I'll tell you what Danny you

impress me just pick 2721 winner for the embattled real quick.

You're going to handicap the eighth race was just real quick

or what? I'm trying to handicap the

eighth race with us real quick. The eighth race.

Ya girls race, they unbridled. Now, I'll tell you how big of a

dummy. I am.

Alright. So we're going to go on to talk

about the five and a half for a long Sprint on the turf and this

is the unbridled Sydney steaks, I guess presented by a terrific

part, by the way. All right, Willie.

Tell people a little bit about Caravelle.

What we got to see in this is a fun one because, you know, this

is the time of year, Dan? Knows that horses who ran the

biggest races in November, a lot of them.

Come off, what we Oh, lay off a winter.

Lay off. Right?

Where they take some time off the track.

Sure right so horse Micron come, kick them out for 3045 days and

what do they do during that time?

They let them be horses, they don't, they don't brush them,

they don't pay them, they put them out in a field, they might

bring them in at night, if it gets cold, right?

They let, but they just let him be horses.

And so give me a little bit of time off.

It's like your Summers, when you were playing basketball right up

and you'd put the basketball away.

Forget, you're a basketball player for a while.

And, you know, Caravelle is one of these horses and she ran in

the Breeders Cup. Turf Sprint last year, be the

boys at Keeneland. Really impressive.

Under Tyler got fat Leon comes back at Keeneland again wins

against the boys. Again, she gets to go against

the girls today. Little bit of a different spot

for her. This is still a Grade Nothing

But it's Churchill Downs. Still spoke three hundred

thousand dollars which in California is a grade 1.

And so today, we honor thousands a lot for first fret and turf

Billy's. That's a big that's what A nice

chunk of change. I love Caravelle in this spot.

You don't have to, but do you love caramel on the spot?

Oh, without question though because I think that she has to

turn a foot and you know the questions were okay, so how is

she going to come back? And it Canaan and I was there

watching her. He also said he liked it very,

very impressive. So no, I think that she is

without question. The one in this race worth

noting purchased in 2021 for a half a million bucks.

And then they decided to keep racing her.

She is 6 years old. And sometimes by now, it's time

to go to Britain said not for her show, you know, and they,

and they, they gave a half a million for as a broodmare.

Yes, not expecting her to finish up like this.

They'll, I'm sure they're shooting at the, at the Breeders

Cup again, this year. She made nine hundred and thirty

thousand dollars last year's already made 170,000.

This so Dana she an absolute single in this race.

Or is this a horse? Is there anyone on the scale

that can really challenge her here?

You know I didn't I didn't see it.

I like The the eight horse a little bit, but you know, she'd

been running at Hawthorne and the fairgrounds.

And she shows up at Keeneland in a, in a smaller stake race than

what Caravelle one does not. She was fractious in the gate,

and didn't have a very good trip.

But if anybody beats her, I think it'll be the eight horse.

I think a possibility would be the one coming out of

California. It's the only thing I can never

figure out if people don't know, they replace the turf.

Of course, here last year. We're still learning about it.

Frankly, we don't really know what sins and out.

It's played fair to this point this meeting, I think.

However, you know, if that California speed travels on

Turf, that's usually a winning winning combination.

Jonathan Thomas, John Velazquez tomorrow or today sees me in the

eighth with based on the 1621 might be one of those that

either picks off a piece or is the one that I just goes wild

one. What about, what about the three

Majestic D? Or you know, I'm a big Brendon

Got and it's got Ortiz riding and I know at the destroyed on

TV, any good on the track, that's a thing or Not.

By the way, if you ever see Iran and Chad team up on a Turf race,

you better just always no matter what the odds are.

Amen. Even though I know, Chad Brown

got the trainer here, but go ahead and talk to him.

I'm sorry. Yeah, but likes it Brendon Walsh

here at Churchill on Turf. I think he's usually a pretty,

pretty solid. Absolutely.

You gotta love the number of 15 watering down the morning.

So I left out a horse in that race Javier Castellano is

aboard. The Nine little Jewel.

Here, ran ran fit last timeout by two lengths at Keeneland and

was actually closing into that company needed needed a little

bit. More time won't get it.

Here, I'll be very honest. I won't have it.

It's exactly the same length of race, but I like this horse

because before that 12 straight Turf, Sprint's at five furlongs.

So has shown that they could get it done at five furlongs need a

little more time. Last time it came land isn't

going to get that today, but at least has that five-and-a-half

if Xavier can get a good jump out of the gate here, a little

All the nine would be right after hair fell from right.

So just to recap real quick. This is race eight that we are

talking about for all of our people, betting, really?

All of us really love the 11 horses.

A heavy favorite, who's a deserving heavy favorite, but

some other horses did, you might want to consider the one horse,

the four horse the, I'm sorry, the one horse, the three horse.

The three horse would be our long shot play and then the 8

and the 9. Yep.

So Dan likes the eight. So we gotta make sure the Ace in

there as well too. But yeah, I mean If you're

replaying the pick for which starts in this race, you want to

single right here? I don't think that's a bad play

here at all. Okay.

Yeah. So all right it's one of the

things we that we talk about people to understand all these

stakes races. This is comment, we're almost

like exactly six months from the Breeders Cup which where we met

Danny. All these other races are kind

of like Breeders Cup white races.

Yes and caravels 100% one of those superstars of sport.

We say falling over the Phillies and really understanding some of

these Horses are going to see what a Turf Sprinter like this

as a male. Oh yeah, of caravels, quality

would not be racing right now. Yeah.

No chain, right? He'd be in the breeding shed.

No? Yeah, yeah.

So what are some of the other superstars in horse racing?

That people are going to see this week this weekend?

Oh I, that is the race right after the lot, Troy in great

one. For a reason, it's always a

great one field, the get search results, who won the acorn, you

get a secret oath and won the Kentucky Oaks back.

You get ID in this race and picked off two of those great 13

year old building races last year in the Cotillion and in the

it was a excuse me. The Charlestown Oaks is a great

three. Excuse me, you get desert Dawn,

who's hit the board in a bunch of grade ones as well.

Polly's pearls in that race. I Mo re has a rising or year old

star. She didn't run great.

You mentioned that Caravel sold for half a million.

Look at a more Ray. She's so last November for

400,000, they kept her in training This year she's already

won four hundred and fifty seven thousand.

So there they've got a free Philly and by the way last time

out you want to grade one? So she's there out.

They've got the one back to purchase price and now she's

worth a hundred million and a half two million dollars running

in a 750,000. Yeah, yeah, 100% could

absolutely get there because she she's a very uh he's a very

quality building. For sure.

I think somebody that you talk about someone you'll see

tomorrow as Cody's wish what? Probably the most heartwarming

story in the whole sport. Note a bit racy.

Cody's wish he's somebody that you can really grab ahold of as

far as just a great story, and one more Superstar out.

There are there we can see good night.

All of Tomorrow, Good call an absolute just step, a superstar

and erase it. And then we might see a budding

Superstar tomorrow in that first race with extra in a hole.

And there's, who's the other horse have a Grace that you

liked a lot literal judge. So some, maybe some superstars

on their, I'm also thinking the American Turf tomorrow, Major.

Dude, the one horse in that race could develop into a really,

really serious Turf horse also in that race.

Isn't that horse named? Carl, spackler?

I think both of those horses are potential, bricks-and-mortar

level map solution going forward.

Especially Carl spackler is a bikini, right?

Okay, we're going to take you though, dude.

I mean, that thing you did. I like that and you of you done

it is you're doing I think about it to any things are hanging out

on that you're saying, preciate it guys, like I said, back a

horsey, get paid looks absolutely.

Fun. Alright, thank you.

We're going to take a break, pay the bills when we come back.

We're going to talk about the ninth race and the tenth race.

Go ahead Louis. I just want to say, if you're
