All right. Welcome to another edition of
the Horse Racing Happy Hour. I'm Mike Gandolfo.
It's true. He's Louis Rebeau, also true.
And we're here talking about horse racing in August.
No, actually horse racing log is pretty.
Good. It's loaded, dude.
It's been great. Yeah.
No, it's all well. Kings play little Alabama.
Love the Alabama. Sweet home.
Alabama. Someone walks into your house
tomorrow and says hey I got a $2,000,000 a year real estate
job. It's either in Montgomery, AL or
Toronto. Where do you move?
Toronto. OK, Yeah, in your face, Alabama.
Yeah. No, but you just said
Montgomery. I think that's probably the.
Yeah. What's the best city in Alabama?
Huntsville. Birmingham.
Birmingham is awesome. Yeah, I like me.
It's not bad. I know mobile is kind of
dangerous, right? So.
I don't know actually. I think mobile's like hitting.
Huntsville's got all that space exploration money.
The only place I've been to, I really have only spent well.
OK. The place where I would live in
Alabama is Gulf Shores. Oh, well, yeah, yeah, that's
100%. I love Gulf Shores.
So in your face, Toronto, we're going to Gulf.
Shores I'd go to Gulf Shores, AL first major time, like where I
spent time time in Alabama, stayed in Charles Barkley's
neighborhood at someone else's house, and then we went to
Talladega the next day. Charles Barkley, famously.
NASCAR guy, have you done ever done a NASCAR?
Race. NASCAR race.
No, but I've done stock car races for sure.
Yes. OK, smaller track stuff.
So where I grew up was a track called Berlin Raceway.
Yeah, it was a half mile track, so a big one.
Yeah, yeah, Half mile small. No, for local tracks it's big
OK. Because that's like Bristol.
Right. But that's big for a local
track. Usually they're smaller than
that, so but two guys. They're not going fast on 1/2
mile track. They're not Johnny Benson came
out of there and Jack Sprague came out of there.
Both of them won the Truck Series.
How about that? Yeah.
It's a little Truck Series reference.
You like that? Talladega is 2.67 miles.
Not not a small track. Not a small track.
Did you go to Talladega itself? Yeah, we we went to the.
Race like the out of control awesome.
It it's so, I love going to Bristol, but Bristol's like it's
loud all the time. You're not going to talk to the
person. It's almost like meditative, the
cards are going around and you you just get lost.
You're you can't talk to anybody.
And Talladega, it's like they go by and then you can like you can
talk to the person next year for a while.
So it's, it's just a different experience.
And and then I've been to like Charlotte.
That's the only other track. OK.
I think my like long if I had a like a bucket list, I want to go
to Monaco for Formula One and the Indy 500.
That's about it. OK.
Those are the you can probably make the Indian 5. 100 that's
very something that I can do yes right but I see people up there
and people swear by it man they they talk about the 500 like we
talk about the Derby yeah right I know it's a very.
Different. It's actually kind of funny
being in the Kentucky Derby festival.
We actually. They have they have the same
thing up there. There's a marathon.
It's not as good. I mean, they don't win the
awards we win, but. I agree with that as well.
How about that? But they they actually we, we
kind of trade secrets every once in a while.
Yeah, That makes sense. Yeah.
Yeah, how about that little? Trade secrets, Yeah, of the of
festivals. Festival trade secrets.
Not insider trading or anything like that.
You're not in Congress or something?
No, I think. That's right, no different.
How to make sure people have a good time, You know, hey, we're
doing this. Crowd control, these sorts of
things. Yes, yes, you're doing that
again, data what little. Derby Festival 151.
Dirt for sure. Whole.
Whole 151 how? About that, yeah, I'm moving.
I'm moving on up the organization, man.
I'm I'm blue flaming it so. Should they handle?
Should they hand a bottle of 151 to everyone walking into Derby
next year? No, I think that'd be a bad
idea. Yeah, that'd be a terrible idea.
I'm actually really kind of, you know, we had Derby I.
Agree. By the way, it's a terrible
idea. That's why I brought it up.
Yeah, we had the pins that had the 150 on it and we had perfect
weather. So like the numbers for this
year's Derby Festival are going to be through the reef.
The year before it wasn't that great.
If you remember Thunder, the weather was supposed to be bad.
We had the shooting right before and even that year before we had
2.1 million people go through our events at Derby Festival.
That's pretty. And that's a bad year.
I mean, that's. What was the number this year?
Do you have WE? Don't have yet.
No, we're all that stuff's going to be coming out for us in
September and and at the end of the day, like the end of the
day, it's night. No, but at the end of the day
it'll be August 16th. Yeah, I'm really curious to see
kind of what happens next year, like if there's almost like a
hangover after 150. Interesting.
Right. Yeah.
And the same thing with Derby tickets.
I mean, Derby tickets skyrocketed last year because of
Derby 150. Do they stay at that level or do
they kind of normalize and come down a little?
Bit there's always a bit of you get a residual of the people who
went for the first time who want to go back again.
So you always get a little bit of a bump from that.
But I'm with you on that. DeSantis is here.
We should let him in. Let's let Mantis.
These are things let let let a well dressed man in.
Holy shit. Holy hell.
Oh my God. Matthew DeSantis no hat.
I thought you showered in one. You know, listen, when you get
caught in multiple hail storms during the day at Saratoga,
there's no more there's no more hats.
All right, this is as good as it's going to get right now.
And the hair looks like I live in Florida somewhere with the.
Humidity. Oh my hair, he says.
Oh no. How terrible.
I'm having I'm. Having a rough hair day, too.
I understand. Like it's the humidity.
It's it all the time? Yeah, no, yeah.
I just never know what. A horrible humidity day it is,
yes. Yeah.
Every which? Way, way longer than this.
Yes. Oh please, yes.
Matthew DeSantis, how many times you visit the Kentucky Derby?
We asked you this before, right it?
Was I've only been once. Oh, we did come, OK.
Oh yeah. Well, you're exactly.
In for animal Kingdom. Oh, nice.
So that was the year I I did that.
I've been, I've been to Churchill a bunch because I was
a college roommates with a guy who practiced law in Louisville
for like 5 or six years. And I just go down there and
hang out and we just go on like a Thursday and, and just, you
know, have fun. But we did, we did Kentucky Oaks
kind of like a little bit. And I don't know if this is kind
of the way that the locals do it, but like the Kentucky Oaks
was more of the like the dress up type of day.
Like we had fun. We went out, we did that ran
into a lot of celebrities just walking around the paddock.
The guy, Chris Maloney from Law and Order SVU is about 5 foot
five, you know, other than that, you know, we just, you know, we
had a good time, but then the actual Derby day, we just it was
much more casual. I mean, we were there, it was
more the infield and and just kind of so yeah, it was, it was,
I mean awesome experience and, you know, can't wait to get
back. Obviously that'd.
Be I'd love to get back. I would say the level of dress
for Derby and Oaks is pretty much the same.
I agree. Yeah.
It has more to do with were you in the infield or not in the
infield that's. What?
Right. Exactly.
Exactly. Yeah, yeah.
So for the Oaks, we were kind of in the box and then for in like.
There were years. If me and then yeah, the.
Oaks is the dress up day actually because all the women
are like so trying to paint things so badly.
Maybe that's true. I mean, maybe.
I mean, I mean all the now the whole week's basically getting
that way though because. My wife wore a fascinator on
Tuesday this year. Yeah, right.
Yeah. No, it is.
That's the whole thing. Yeah.
I mean, I, I only wore a fascinator on Friday and
Saturday. She wore.
You got to cover this up somehow.
Right. Yeah, exactly.
Got to. Yeah, got.
To girks with your hair. Yeah, well, the weather up
there. Who's in charge of the weather
in New York? I'm just.
I didn't know, like. Because they're making bad
decisions. Matt Satan.
They're making a lot. These poor steeple chase people.
Yeah, Jesus. I mean, we finally got a steeple
chase in on Wednesday. Thank, thank the Lord.
I thought Carrie Bryan was going to jump out of her skin if we
didn't get that one in. So, no, I mean, it was just, it
was one of those things where, you know, summer in Saratoga,
you guys know, summer in Louisville, like just afternoon
thunderstorms pop up and it's, you know, 20 minutes of just a
monsoon and it just, you know, what are you going to do?
And then the turf course gets really slippery and it gets
soggy. And then you, you know, we were
able to get the stakes race at least on the turf today, but
then the last two obviously taken off.
The good news is tomorrow looks absolutely perfect.
No threat of rain, beautiful skies.
And then Saturday, I actually like this forecast.
It's going to be overcast. And there's like a low
percentage chance, like 10% chance of rain kind of
throughout the day. But that usually just means
you'll get a sprinkle here or there, but nothing serious.
And so I'd much rather have that than like a day like today where
it's like looks nice for half the day and then it's, you know,
a chaotic thunderstorm that ruins the races and takes things
off the turf. So I think the the forecast for
the weekend, I think this cross looks pretty good.
There you go. All right.
So is it impacting your handicap and let's put it that way.
This weekend, no, I'm not. I'm not assuming a wet track and
I'm not assuming anything off turf or even really that soft
ground. Oh.
There you go. All right.
Well, do we want to we want to go ahead and start talking about
some of the races from. Yeah, we can.
We're not going to play the Arlington Million replay here.
Matthew. Did Nations probably do anything
that got you excited enough for him to win a Breeders' Cup race?
He did. Not for me.
No, not really. I mean, I, I think that it was,
I don't know, maybe I'm in the minority.
There's been very few Charlie Appleby horses that have
genuinely got me excited this year.
I, I feel like his overall, it's so interesting to see where he's
positioning his horses down. I don't mean to derail his
conversation into something else, but like it's so
interesting that a couple of years ago all of his horses were
coming over having previously run in the UK, Ireland and you
know, England. Now almost all the horses that
are coming over to the United States previously ran and made
on and were UAE or their repeat customers and coming back over
here to the United States. This coincides with Appleby
going over the last two years, if I'm not mistaken at Royal ask
it and a lot of Brits are making a big deal about this, that the
bloom is a little bit off the roads with Charlie Appleby and
maybe the barn is not quite as good as people thought.
I know there's been speculation over there that they have not
found the next great sire after Debawi and that Debawi is
starting to get obviously go up and get up in there and age and
maybe not be as reliable of a sire at this point, his career.
And it seems like the balance of power shifted to Aidan O'Brien
and, and you know, Jonathan and Gosden again over there.
So, you know, I feel like he brings these horses over because
he's kind of playing in the minor leagues and he's coming
over here and just taking a paycheck and able to get these
wins. But I I think when you talk
about the Breeders Cup and then you're talking about Aidan and
Gosden potentially bringing horses over and you know, and
all of our horses being all the way cranked up.
You know, I, I just like I said, I've not seen many of his horses
this year that I've gone wow to. I thought Cinderella's dream is
the one that I think is really, really good is a three-year old
Philly who won the Belmont Oaks in the Saratoga Oaks.
I think she's the real deal. But outside of that, I don't you
know, it's been silver knot. Obviously is is the other one,
but the other those two are the only ones that stand out all.
Right. So Nation's Pride been winning
the arts million. What were your thoughts on
Nation's Pride? That he beat a very rudimentary
field. So we on the on the horse racing
happy our greatest stakes meter, where would you put that two
plus OK. Grade 2 plus yeah, something.
Like that, I mean, are they going to have to in order to
keep that race at a grade one? Are they going to have to get
that thing out of Colonial? Beyoncé no, they're going to
have to move it because people are skipping the Arlington
million to run for 2 million at Kentucky Downs and the timing is
terrible and they are probably going to have to go ahead
stealing this take from Dan Ullman, who's probably watching.
I I he's totally right. I thought about this a lot if
Dan. Ullman didn't watch.
Where would he get his? Where would he get his material?
You're the one who does, you know, gives you everything that
he's going to. Report about, right?
I agree with that part. However, I'm going to steal one
take from Dan Ullman about, you know, every three months or so.
But yes, I think he's right. I mean, they think they're
closing nominations tomorrow for the Nashville Derby, $3.1
million for that race. Why would you run for a million?
There's 3,000,000 on. It's just a a second place check
is I. Mean.
And most of those horses don't need a graded one.
They don't. Need it.
Yeah, that's right. I mean, and, and it, you know,
I, I do think they, they kept nations fry in that race.
And I, I knew he was going to win when Caitlin Free talked to
us on Friday and said, Oh yeah, Charlie Appleby's going to be
here now. OK, he's fine.
We're done here. Here's the giveaway right now.
He had one in the Sprint who fell out of the gate.
I mean, could I mean, he could not have started worse.
I forget the name that was, but I mean, once I found out that he
was there, I was like, OK, we're done here.
That's good enough. I'm sorry.
Yeah, and it was telling that William Buick went to Colonial
rather than coming up here to ride 2 Appleby horses, both of
whom I was against Ottoman Fleeton, Legend of Time in their
respective races. I mean, the easy handicap angles
just follow William Buick's Air Flight and that's usually going
to tell you where the winner's going to end up being.
Yeah. I mean, I think the only Appleby
horse you didn't mention is Master of the Season.
If he comes off the bench and does, yeah, anything say in the
Woodbine Mile or something, I'll take him seriously for the BC
miles. Yeah, 100 percent, 100% agreed.
Yeah, all. Right, we are going to watch
Maura's win. And Beverly?
So go ahead. Zach, pull that one up.
Zach is there. There he is.
Hey, horses. Hey on that.
Nadette, meanwhile, taking the shortest way home, is in behind
horses. Third, Niecy Marie is under a
drive and Libin FEV Rover brings him to the top of the stretch of
the Beverly D. But company is coming.
Here's Moira on the outside trying to charge you after FEV
Rover. Nadette going to swing toward
the center of the course for the final furlong.
FEV Rover on the inside of Moira.
They're racing well apart. Nadette going to try to split
the two of them. Moira on the outside, FEV Rover
on the inside. These two for a final 16th.
Of a mile FEV Rover in Moira Nadette back in 3rd.
It's Moira and FEV Rover. Moira just in front.
Moira, I think she got it. FEV Rover was right there in the
photo. Then came Niecy all.
Right, so the race basically goes exactly is anticipated with
Maura and Fev Rover. 12A little bit of a long shot of guests
coming in 3rd with Niecy Marie. What were your thoughts on
Maura? Interesting thing here to watch
going forward. Obviously she gets a start in
the in a spot, excuse me, in the Breeders Crump starting gate.
The last time they were the 2017 edition of Del Mar this race,
the Breeders Cup turf Philly and mare was at a mile and an
eighth. And if it's at that kind of
distance, I actually think she could be a factor.
Like that's where I'm interested in Moira in the in the in the
Breeders Cup is if it's actually at that distance rather than say
the mile and a quarter, we get stretched out to that kind of
distance because I'm not sure. I'm not sure she's got enough
kick, but stay on for another full for long after that,
essentially after that race. But no, I, I, it was interesting
to watch her. She started to drift.
She was so stuck on that lead and that she fixed, you know,
they, they get the other leads. She she starts to, I don't want
to say log in, but you know, pulls in a little bit and
actually does win that race. And so I, I thought of the races
of the, you know, the performances, at least at
Colonial this weekend. Her trickery stood out to me.
Yeah, absolutely. I thought trickery for Graham
motion absolutely stood out. I really like that one.
I was a little disappointed. I I get why Graham went down
there rather than coming up here.
And I think, you know, his comments to Caitlin after the
race to the fact trickery is going to stay at a mile and and
kind of go against older after this and rather than stretching
out and going longer in the in the Belmont or the Saratoga
Derby. But listen, Moira, you know, Fed
Rover tried to do what he did last year, just try to walk the
dog up front and almost did it. I mean, I went what, 51 and
change? I thought I was watching a New
York turf race, you know, and they, you know, went real slow
up front and tried to slow it down and get it.
But Moyer has been so impressed by that second place effort last
time out. The Diana I thought was really
good off the bench, having not run since the Breeders Cup.
And then, you know, coming back there and getting the win.
She's really, really good. But I agree with Louis.
I think a mile and eight, I think 9 furlongs, just her game.
And I don't necessarily like her 10 at all, but she's not a miler
either. So I do think she's kind of
stuck at that nine for a long distance.
And if they run it like that out there at Del Mar, then yeah,
she's got a real shot. Go ahead with the update.
Yeah, it looks like it's gonna be at 11.
Oh wow. OK.
Mile 382. That's a lot.
That's a lot. That's what they're listening at
right now. Yeah, at that.
Point that leans, that leans zeros for sure.
Yeah, it really does. Can we get next to run on the
the grass? Maybe.
Maybe we can get next to run on the turf You.
Know next needs to identify as affiliate mayor sure and then.
We'll look exactly. Yeah, exactly.
It's also California. It's a boom.
There we go. Let's go, let's go.
With it. Oh.
Oh, what's that? San Diego?
Come on, be better. Let's go.
Oh, jeez. Come.
On. All right, let's go off.
Of. California doing good.
Let's go watch Carl Spackler win the four-star, Dave.
What a weird race this was. Annapolis Casa Creed 7.
Off the lead with a quarter of a mile to go and Annapolis is cut
loose on the outside of my C cottage, my C cottage, Annapolis
right to him and right on by Casa creeds.
The last three to make up starts to pick up some nice momentum.
Now it's Annapolis and here's Casa Creed on the outside.
These two square off once again, Casa Creed or Annapolis.
Annapolis. Casa Creed.
Casa Creed oops. Stop it, stop it.
Stop it, Stop it, Stop it, Stop it.
That's from last year. Yeah.
How about that? Yeah, well, I'm.
It's better to see. How about that?
Yeah. I was going to say I.
Was going to say. But yeah, that's.
We got the wrong replay. Bad length.
Bad length. But no, that was, you know, it
was an interesting race because there wasn't much speed in the
race and strong quality was the only horse that was going to be
up on the lead. And one of the things I thought
was that Carlos Backler could get the jump on everybody.
And that's essentially what happened, is he just got the
jump sitting close to the lead. And then Cherie Devoe's horse
for the looks. I think moving forward, that's
the horse maybe I'm more interested in betting than Carl
Spackler because that horse really was up against it from a
pay standpoint, from a layoff standpoint, and still managed to
get up for second. But you know, Carl Spackler also
horse for course. I mean, he really loves
Saratoga. This is now four wins and five
starts at Saratoga. So he likes it up here on the
spot, likes the turf quite a bit.
It was a. Weird.
Race it. Was a weird race.
I really agree though with that analysis.
I think I I do think the the horse moving forward is Dubose
horse. I think it's going to be
difficult not to see that horse a big factor in the Breeders Cup
when we get there. Because you.
Figure there's going to be more pace in that race too.
And then with more pace than she, yeah, they're going to come
flying. To Matthew's point, Carlos
Bachler is all his wins. Recent wins have come in
Saratoga, except for the win at Churchill and the opening verse
and then a win in Gulfstream and a main spatial weight.
So there you go, there you go, that's what it is.
How about? That So in those divisions
though like you know, as we look at older sort of turf males
here, Matthew, we've got the masters of the Seas.
We've got the measured times, we've got the Johannes.
Would you put Johannes at the top of that Mylar group right
now in North America? Because I think I know.
That's interesting, yeah. I mean, especially with it being
out in Del Mar, I actually would.
I think when those West Coast turf forces get to play on their
own territory in their own sandbox, they're really
dangerous out there. And that horse, just horse just
shows up and dominates really, really good.
I mean, that just yeah, doesn't turn in a bad race.
And you know, with the with the question mark, with Master of
the Seas, with the bruised foot, you know, you know, how long
does that take to come back? And, you know, like I said, Carl
Spackler is a is a nice horse, but I wouldn't say, you know, I
listen, I'd love to own him, but like, he's not a horse that, you
know, necessarily scares me in that division moving forward
just because of his running style.
And yeah, I think Cherise's horse is serious, but will
probably be a little bit more of a long shot in that race.
But yeah, Johannes, I think kind of leader in the clubhouse,
quite frankly. For North American horses for
sure, and I do think the the difference between that mile and
a half and the turf and the mile makes that decision really easy
for the connection. Johannes is not going to go a
mile. That mile will be what I mean,
it's going to have to run that kind of race.
It's going to have to be closer to the front probably than he
has been in some other races. But I think he can absolutely do
it and probably. Wow, I was trying to.
Is it so bricks and Mortar won the turf.
The last Miller was it E Beer was the last North American
based Miller to win the Breeders Cup?
Yeah, maybe. I don't have to go.
Back. So I think, I think we're
looking at that long since we've had, in my opinion, a horse like
Johannes that can actually jump up.
And you like, and you got to like the chosen brown and the
Sprint and the turf Sprint, the. Turf Sprint.
And oh, I'm sorry, no, the I thought that was a turf race.
Wasn't. It chosen Brown, Yeah.
No, the last one was. Turk OK, my fault.
I'm out of it a little. Bit I'll be honest, I would like
him in the Turk Sprint too because that horse just wins on
everything like like just give me chosen.
He's on the dirt. Yeah, yeah.
But no I. Think Cosby's on the turf.
No, but he's like 2 for three on turf too, and the horse is out
of his mind. That's correct, yeah.
Yeah. But I mean, I think that's
another case where at least a local California like.
Favorable people bet him like crazy last year at Santa Anita,
too. He just didn't.
Fire. Him right that's.
Right, yeah, OK, let's go on with your manscape read.
Well, Manscape read Yeah, how about that?
20% off free shipping to your house.
You did the other day. I used it literally right before
the show. No, not.
Like the 20% discount is what I used.
OK, Yeah. Yeah, well, they're running a
special right now. You can use our code on top of
that savings right now. Horse racing is our code.
All one word 20% off shipping is free to your house as well.
manscape.com get all cleaned up. Have a nice beard like Matthew
DeSantis. How about that maybe even get
some beard. What is it?
Is it cream lotion? What do they call it?
I found out. That I but see I use the oil and
I was starting to get flakes. I'm using the oil and so going
to the conditioner which they give was the game changer for
me. So how about that the the beard
conditioner works better for me than the beard oil.
So there. You go all right, a little beard
conditioner. Go back if you want to manscape
oil versus conditioner, I mean. I mean Zach's Zach is actually
more beard than person so. Yeah, that's probably true.
Yeah, I don't know. Zach's There he is.
I will tell you that I use both and I have always used both.
Oh, there you go. All right.
Different skin types, Mike, how about that and find out your
skin type landscape. I have the toily of the toily,
the oily Italian skin. Toily, which is oily Italian, is
now a toily Italian skin Oily Italian skin.
It's like, it's like I was telling Matthew the other day
that so Matthew and I have been struggling to come up with our
favorite term for whatever the turf course is at Churchill
currently. And.
It's all Do you remember what he said?
What he called it. What did he call?
It called it the turf. I just stole it.
We're done here. That's easy.
ISIL came up with it. I'm stealing ISIL stuff.
That's what we're doing here. I love the turret.
The turret turt. Sounds like a really nasty sex
move. Or or or the dump you take the
next day after you ate something after drinking that you
shouldn't be. Well, they could be that too.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh man, I just dropped a huge
turret. Yeah.
No, it's not. Good.
All right, Matthew's on here for one, one main reason.
It's because we got a pretty good day at Saratoga coming up.
Oh, I thought you were going to talk about the King's play.
You want to start there first? I don't.
I mean, we have the man on here to talk about Saratoga.
I'm talking talking kings. Play with my guy JD tomorrow.
OK, we'll do that then, Yeah, you go talk all your Canadian
race and you want. Well, Ontario talk tomorrow,
yeah. You've never been to Lake
Placid? Have I ever?
No, I've never been to Lake Placid.
I do I do rewatch the 1980 Miracle on Ice call regularly
and I'm someone so I this is again, kind of a little bit of
an offshoot. I don't know if you guys like
this. I yeah, my deep Italian heritage
roots for the. For the rusties.
And so, yeah, I Veroni, why would I root for that guy?
The but no, it's funny. I love watching like I first of
all, I love the 30 for 30s that ESPN has done over the years and
sports documentaries in general. And I am somebody I love re
watching that stuff. Like I will watch like the I've
watched like the U30 for 30 about the University of Miami
like 7 times. I love watching that stuff.
So I watched like all the old, you know, sports documentaries
about the Miracle on Ice and the Lake Placid Games.
And it's just, I mean, I was and I was born in 1980.
So like I've always kind of had that connection to the Olympics
from that year. And and I, you know, friend of
the family got like a little ski cap that when I was a little
baby for the 1980 Olympics. So yeah, I just always loved
that story, but never been. And maybe that's something I
need to. Do that's a hockey guy?
Is that a venue that you just? Is it historic of a venue at all
being? I don't even know what it's
called. No.
My dad tells the story, though, so of course that that game
happens. And so it's a little prior to my
birth. My dad tells the story.
He they win the game. He runs out on the front porch
with a pot and a spatula and just starts hitting it on the
front porch to celebrate Italian New Year.
All of his neighbors run out at the same time and start doing
the same thing in Detroit. Yeah.
Yeah. So apparently it was just a it
was just a celebration all around the country.
So, yeah, that's awesome. The stories I hear about that
stuff, I'm very jealous. It sounds amazing.
Yeah. I mean, yeah.
I mean, it's right in the. Heart right in the heart of the
Cold War. I mean, that's, Yep, that's.
Right. Yeah.
I take those Soviet stands all day long.
Yeah. All right.
Well, let's talk about the Lake Placid stakes.
A little Lake Placid. Home of the 1980 Winter
Olympics. In 1960?
How about that? In 1960.
OK, All right. If you say so.
Lou, you want to start with this or you want Matthew, you go
first. I could go first here, that'd be
just fine with me. I landed on the 10.
What's the 10's name? How about that?
Dynamic pricing. This one made me look really
smart on the at Churchill over Derby weekend in the Edgewood.
I'm hoping we get a return to form in this race under Irad
Ortiz Junior, who was aboard for that race in the Edgewood at
Churchill Downs. Matthew assures me we're going
to have firm go. I'm hoping we'll have a little
bit of giving the go this weekend for dynamic pricing.
If I can really get 5 to one on this horse by the time we get to
post time, I'm definitely going all in.
We got 9 to one on the horse over a Derby weekend, so maybe
we can get lucky again. I have a long shot as well in
the second spot here in Proctor St.
Who won last out in an optional claimer at Sir at a Syracuse
Saratoga. Saratoga.
I've been to Syracuse. Thank you.
I appreciate you very much. I think, I think this is a horse
that is going to do all of its running late and I think there's
actually a fair amount of speed up front in this race, including
the horse right next to it that Kendrick is just going to have
to go on and try to figure it out.
And so I think there's going to be plenty to run into in this
race, including a horse like She Feels Pretty, who's going to be
in the other front with Johnny V aboard is going to be the
favorite in this race and frankly a deserved favorite.
But I'm going to try to go a little bit longer.
Use 10:00 and 9:00 here. Dynamic pricing and practice
what? Do you think it was dynamic
pricing, Matthew, was it just a, was that like a a rare
occurrence we just get the horse's best race and that was
it or are we going to see repeat performance?
Yeah, it's a good question because it is a little telling
that you look at the horses running lines and there is a
little bit of an on, off, on, off type of a pattern where you
know, ran an 86 buyer in the sweet chant.
And then you know when you know, kind of ran a nothing race in
the Florida Oaks, came back, ran big in the Edgewood, then didn't
really run much in the Belmont Oaks last time out.
So a little bit erratic. I will say having I Rad back
aboard is going to be good. I think he's going to have a big
Saturday because here's the thing, I Rad Ortiz Junior just
is going to get off serving a three day suspension.
And I know that when when Saturday rolls around, I rad
puts on his riding shoes. You don't get Wednesday.
I rad you get big money. I rad.
I know big money Mike Smith. He's got that nickname.
But I tell you, there are certain Saturdays where I rad
just wins the first three races and you're like, OK, it's going
to be that type of day like everybody else is running for
second. So I, I, I do not anticipate,
you know, getting this horse getting a bad ride at all.
He's going to get a good ride or she's going to get good, right?
I should say I think she can revert back the form.
I liked her quite a bit in this spot.
I do think Cherie's horse, the number seven, she feels pretty,
is a really tough customer. I think the cut back to a mile
and a 16th is going to really benefit her.
You can tell she just tired a little bit going that mile and
three sixteenths last time out. Just couldn't hold off
Cinderella's Dream, who I mentioned earlier for Charlie
Appleby, but one who just is super consistent and you know,
really the two losses were by half a length and 3/4 of a
length. So really a horse that has not
done much wrong to this point. But I agree with Louis about the
long shot. I really like the number 9
Proctor St. as well. This is my this is my value play
in the race. I love Brendan Walsh and Tyler
Gafflione together on the turf. Just such trusted connections,
whether it's down in Kentucky or up here in New York.
And Tyler has been riding extremely well.
If I'm not mistaken, he won actually 25% of the races that
took place last week at Saratoga.
So he's just been on an absolute roll up here.
This one is a listen. She's a deep closer.
She's going to make her big run late.
But here's the thing on the inner turf course at Saratoga,
54% of winners have closed from more than three lengths off the
pace that they have mile mark. You want to be coming from off
the pace on this turf course really does not hold up front
end speed that well, which I think is maybe a legitimate
concern for the number seven if she's really close to that pace
that Ori, I agree with you. Louis Kendrick's got nothing to
do other than to say and so and the four might kind of be
forward as well. I think it has a little bit of
tactical speed and then the seven sitting there second or
third. So I I definitely like dynamic
pricing here. I'm going to take a swing with
Proctor St. as my top pick. But yeah, I definitely think
this one you can, you can try to get a price in this race.
All right, look at that. Only one we didn't mention
flopping Pratts aboard the two grey OSH here who last out when
dropped back out of a grade two in the wonder again, but ran
well I thought last time. Just got caught at the end by
Proctor St. who we both like. If that horse runs back to that
kind of form, that's a or gets a little better even.
I should say that's a horse that can win here as well.
All right, Yeah, we're. Going to move on to the 10th
race, which is the Alabama Stakes.
Alabama. Alabama $600,000 Grade 1
presented by Keeneland Sales. They have.
Sales at Keeneland. They did.
Did you know that? Wait, what?
Yeah. Sales.
Three-year old Philly. I thought all they cared about
was racing on. The dirt stutter.
Where does this rank for you? As far as we've talked about
this before, as far as. Philly mayor races or Philly
races? Three-year old races, yeah,
because we always talk about a house.
Oaks and Acorn on their own level.
This is above the CCA. Oaks, this is above the
cotillion for me. Third, third.
Third. Yeah, Third.
It's about the Black Eyed Susan. I would put it through.
How about you, Matthew? Oh yeah.
I would say that's yeah, that's that's pretty good.
That's kind of where I would have it slotted to Oaks Acorn
kind of on its own level. I also agree better than the
Cotillion, better than the CCAO. And I'll be honest, this year
it's a better race because Torpedo An is not in it.
We have this debate on one of your live streams.
Yeah. Yeah, that sounds a little
counterintuitive to say that the best 3 year old Phillies not in
the race and that makes it a better race, but it makes it a
better betting race. I think it makes it a better
field. I mean because Louis, I don't I
mean what three other horses might have shown up if she had,
you know, the the racing office would have really, you know,
been handing out checks, trying to get people to fed or horses.
I have a feeling to go against a one to nine shot in this race.
So, you know, her going against the boys next week in the
Travers, I think makes it a better field and I'm excited for
this one because a lot of Phillies now have a shot of
getting a grade one. Yeah, I'm not sure.
Like, yeah, like a neon icon makes the trip of Thorpe and
oils in here, for example. Yeah.
But I'm. I'm just not sure about that.
Yeah. Thomas makes the trip.
You're right. I mean, you got a lot of horses
like this and of course this race is a who's who's of horses
have won this race. I mean, I'm, I can go back as
far as we want, but Songbird Elate, Swiss skydaw her mouth at
nest. I mean, this was this is this is
an incredible race. I don't know if we have any
horses of that quality in this race.
But Swiss Skyd ever win this race and the Traverse in the
same year? I can't remember.
Or was her first time against the boys in the Preakness OK?
All right, that was the weird year where everything was off.
Yeah, that is, you won an October Preakness.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But it was not.
Yeah, you're not. You're not with the traverse.
OK, so I mean brass tacks. I know how you feel about
Torpedo Anna not being here. Matthew, as far as this being a
betting race and a better field, if you were in that ownership
group, would you show up for the four $350,000?
Check. Probably not.
I would. I would take a shot against the
guys just because So I, you know, it's funny, you and I went
back and forth about one of the turf horses this year endlessly
in the Kentucky Derby. I think the difference between
endlessly in that decision to go to the Kentucky Derby rather
than keep the horse on the turf, and this is a little bit
different. A, you had the surface switch,
which I wasn't necessarily a big fan of and then B, you know,
endlessly hadn't really put together a whole resume
necessarily to this point. Whereas I feel like for pedo
Anna, she doesn't really have anything else to prove.
I mean, this is kind of the conversation we have with Next
as well as like how long does Next just keep cashing checks?
Right. You know, running in the
Goodwood Cup and running in the Bird stone and stuff like that.
Like that's great, but I'd love to see him go a mile and 1/4 in
the Kentucky in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
Like that's what I want to see. I want to see him against tap a
trice or something like that in that race, Like that'd be
awesome. So I, you know, I think as an
ownership group, particularly if you're an ownership group
associated with Kenny Mcpeak, listen, you got to have a little
bit of flash and a little bit of flair.
So going against the boys, I, I think that's the way to go
there. You go.
And she's got a chance, I mean. Obviously.
Yeah, I mean, yes. Yeah, she's got A and she's got
a chance. You're right.
Like that's the other part of it.
It's not just that she's going. She's got a legit chance on that
race. Yeah.
All right, let's. Hopefully we get the like 10 or
11 to one number that we got in the Preakness right.
That'd be great, yes. Matthew, what do you think?
Tell us you like. Can we kind of just go through
the field? We can do that.
Yeah, because this is the race of the weekend that we're going
to be talking to Matthew through.
So what's our terrible word game that we're going to play for
Alabama? Yeah, Alabama.
No, no, run for stop. Let's just say like if you like
the horse or not. Cuz we thought we always start
these things and we never actually finish them.
Got it. Yeah.
All right, all right, so. The point is we we could do, we
could do Roll Tide or War Eagle. I don't know like we could do.
Roll Tide. So Roll Tide the horse.
Let's go ahead and piss off. If you like the horse, let's
Roll Tide. If you don't like the horse, War
Eagle. I don't.
Know all right, I'll look part Georgie anyway so.
Close to Warner Robins, where all those really good Little
League teams come out of that's they're like right down the
highway from is there One? Part of the New Jersey or the
Tuscaloosa? Well, that's fair enough.
OK, we're going to start then with the one horse Tyler is
aboard, Intricate 6 to one morning line trained by Brandon
Walsh, lost, came in 3rd in that CCA Oaks that torpedo and I
walked home with. And what do you think?
Yes or no? I would say a winner, Probably
not. A A a War Eagle.
Did I do that right? OK, yeah, more eagle.
Or as Charles Barkley would say, there are two types of people,
Auburn people and people going to hell.
How? About that we can go, we can go
roll tired that they're terrible.
We don't want to say terrible though then.
Yeah, these horses aren't terrible, right?
Intricate's not a terrible horse.
Horrible. I think Intricate is going to
turn out like her dad would be much better later on.
I think this is not a great spot for her.
I think she showed in the CCA Oaks what she is.
I think the added distance at this point is probably not a
good thing for her. So I will go War Eagle in this
one. Yeah, I agree.
War Eagle. I mean, people who might latch
on to the fact she's the only Philly who's ever beaten Torpedo
Anna and they might latch on to that.
But listen, she just hasn't taken a step forward from 2:00
to 3:00. And like Louis, I agree.
If she's going to have another chapter, it's going to be like
Gun Runner as a four or five year old as she gets a little
bit older. And you know, I like these
connections a lot, but hard for me to see this one jumping up
and winning in the spot. And particularly even at six to
one, I feel like that's even too low of odds for me to take a
shot at a horse like that. We got a horse, the two Chatalis
Wednesday and Oaks and that has a trainer change so.
Well, that was because Mark Lads left to California, Senator, to
Grant, and Grant took care of it for that race, yeah.
I see that now with the Glat SO tutori aboard here 8:00 to 1:00.
Wrote her in the blue northern. Yep.
Yep. So who do we got?
Like here we got where we Roll Tide or War Eagle.
She's more Roll Tide for me than intricate was, but she still
wore eagle in this group. Matthew, I think she's a nice
horse. I really wonder about the
distance with her. Obviously the the breeding says
that she can get there, but she's never done it before and
so you know, she was on the turf. 2 races to go for all
things and so interested to see her, you know on Saturday, but
man, I'll I'll let her beat me in this spot Matthew.
I'll go War Eagle with. Yeah, I'll, I'll kind of go a
little bit more Roll Tide with her.
I, I think she's got a little bit of a shot and I mean, I have
her pick third in, in my analysis on my bet.
So I mean, I, I'm not saying she's my pick to win and we'll
get to her later, but like I, she's a really gutsy horse.
That effort in the Indiana Oaks was legit.
I mean, she, they made a run at her and she came right back at
them. It was very reminiscent of
Dornik actually, and kind of some of his races where they got
the head passed and then still kind of came back to win.
That was also her first race in seven months, having not run all
winter and spring. So I thought that was a really
promising effort. There's not a ton of speed in
this race. She could get out up front and
not be pressured and we've seen it happen up at Saratoga.
Horse gets bold up on the front end and nobody starts to make up
ground and catch her, so she's a little bit more eagle for me I
think, especially at the 8 to one price of horse I'm including
in some different wagers. All right, the three horses
Power Squeeze. Power squeeze has won five out
of her last seven races. The two she didn't won when were
won by the repeat. And so Jorge Delgado trained
here, Castellano aboard will be coming in here again five out of
the last seven. However, one of those starts at
Saratoga that she came in 3rd and that was in that acorn.
So what do you you got to take her as a serious try?
This is a Roll Tide. She's a War Eagle for me yeah.
So I'm I'm off of her. I and I'm not precisely sure why
in my head I'm not more positive about this horse, but I lot
looked very competitive, very good running late in the
Delaware Oaks for sure. I don't know how good Siddamara
is and I don't know how good regaled is the two horses that
she beat in that race. But I do know that she finished
behind Leslie's Rose, of whom I do not have a high opinion in
her last time at Saratoga in the Acorn.
I think this is a very much a War Eagle for me.
Nine to two is so far from the number I would want on this
horse, Matthew, that I don't think I'm going anywhere near.
Yeah, we're in agreement. I'm more Eagle on this one as
well. I think it's not a mistake that
if you look her two best races are in a mile and a 16th.
When she went a mile and an eighth, she didn't necessarily
like that. I have a hard time thinking
we're just going to suddenly like a mile and a quarter.
You know, the pedigree is not particularly overwhelming for
distance either, especially going a mile and a quarter.
So, and I mentioned this is a race that is probably not going
to feature much pace. And she likes to come from
pretty far back. I mean, the races that she's run
the best, her Gulfstream, Park Oaks, her Delaware Oaks, you
know, she managed to be relatively close.
It was kind of a short field that was clumped together In all
those instances, she wasn't that far back.
I don't see that necessarily happening on Saturday.
So I just, yeah, she's a War Eagle for me.
I just, I'm not a true believer in this one and I think, you
know, she might be able to pick up some pieces for a very minor
award. But like I said, distance is
just a no go for me. Daughter of Union Rags, by the
way. Union Rags underrated horse
name. Yeah, OK.
No. It's just a good.
One all right, the four horses just basking 5 to one Ian Wilkes
train here. Ian Wilkes my daughter, my wife
used to teach Ian Wilkes kids when Darryl Saborg coming off
that very impressive win in the Iowa Derby.
This is a huge step up though for.
This yeah from the Iowa Oaks for.
Sure. Yeah.
I'm sorry. Iowa Oaks.
You're fine. Yeah.
So, you know, morning line 5 to one.
They like her. She had a good speed figure in
that race. Is is the Iowa Oaks winner just
basking a war? And she, she wanted the
distance. I mean, it's worth mentioning.
I mean, one of the reasons her odds are where they're at.
David Aragona, of course, does a great job with the Lions in New
York. This is part of it.
I think Matthew is that she wanted a mile and a quarter of
Churchill Downs. 100%, I mean, this is, there's two horses that
have won at this distance, her and Neon Icon.
Everybody else is untested. She's done it.
I thought the last effort was particularly noteworthy.
She switches off Lasix and you see a buyer speed figure
increase. Either you don't see that
combination very often. You know, interesting that
Wilkes is flying in Landeros for this one mount basically for the
day. I think she's got a live she's
got a live odds. I mean, I I think she's I I
guess maybe I categorize her a little bit the way you did Chad,
a loss where she's more Roll Tide than War Eagle.
I'm not going all in on her, but it would not shock me to see her
run really, really well. But this is going to be quite a
step up in class from running in Prairie Meadows last time out.
But you know, she, she's got a shot.
Oh come on, We don't like the Cinderella story.
No, Yeah, Yeah, Actually, I don't.
You're right. Yeah, these daughters of
arrogate. What?
What a what? A Cinderella story, daughter.
Of arrogate and and. Lay a blame on the mom's side.
What a what a what a great story this is.
What a what a. What A50?
$1000 reading job. This is actually the.
Hell with you. No, that's a hell of a pedigree
too. I mean, that's a hell.
Of a pedigree. You know.
Yeah. You know, it's like, you know,
it's like when you see Godolphin jump up once every, you know,
three months. Yeah.
Now you feel good for those people.
That's right. All right, Gina Alvarado's on
board the five horse America's Val.
This is a 20 to one shot who won last time out at Saratoga.
So what do you think about this horse?
US not going to happen, but no, it's nice.
Tim Ham over his last five in greatest stakes.
Let's make it over six. OK, How about that?
War Eagle we can. Move on.
Like I just, yeah, hard, hard to see this one working out anyway.
Flavian Pratt is riding the six misjustified, trained by Todd
Pletcher and 6:00 to 1:00 morning line odds as 1-2 of the
last three or the last two stars.
Let's just go with that one. Louis, what are you having this
War Eagle Roll Tide? Big Roll Tide on this one.
I think she's I think she's primed for this kind of race and
I think this is the kind of horse we might not have seen had
torpedo Ana stayed in the race. This might have been one where
Pletcher, you know, spotted her in a different spot was in a a
black type last time in the Wilton going in that one turn.
Well, the 1 1/2 turn a mile shoot there at Saratoga.
I, I look, this is justify. I'm not worried about distance.
I think she's steadily progressing and getting better.
I like Flavian getting them out here.
He's having a terrific meet at Saratoga.
So yeah, I I think this is not only I mean, I think she's got a
legit, legit shot. Matthew here.
You mentioned. That yeah, she's my top pick, so
it's real time for me and I, I agree with everything that we
said. She's progressively getting
better and she's the only other horse that has good early
tactical speed outside of child loss.
I don't think child loss can get the distance and I just worry
about, you know, the herb, you know, being able to sustain that
run the whole way. I thought that last effort in
the Wilton was really gutsy. That was an oddly run race.
If you watch that, like somebody kind of bolts halfway through
the race and opens up and then she just kind of comes back and
and comes back on the inside and really showed, I thought a lot
of grit to be able to do that. But she's got a lot of tactical
speed. I think Flavian, you know, knows
that we're stretching out and he's just going to sit there,
you know, length probably behind child loss and just be in the
perfect position to get first crack coming from home.
I think she's good enough to do it.
And she is interesting. She trained, she worked out next
to candy, they worked out together that last work, which
was a very typical Todd Pletcher like go as slow as humanly
possible type of work. She looked really good in that
work next to candy. I mean, I know they neither of
them were being asked for anything.
I would say she was a little more professional looking horse
of the two in that workout. So I I think she's primed for a
big effort. If you can get six to one, I'm
betting with two hands at the windows.
All right, Candy is the seven horse and another top Pletcher
as you know Matthew just kind of talked about Franco aboard here
seven to five big time favorite favorite did finish second to
torpedo Anna in that CCA Oaks last time out won the race
before that, however, kind of had a weird run into oak season.
You know, even coming into the. Well, this was the one they
wanted to run her earlier. It just didn't.
Work and then they. Tried her in that Ashland and
she was off the bench. She didn't run a bad race that
day. She just wasn't ready Yeah, she
just wasn't ready. And that Ashland has that short
finish line too and I think she probably just needed the extra
distance there. I think she's a worthy favorite
here, Matthew. I, you know if she runs her race
here she's the most likely winner if you will.
But you know, I, I think we'll get closer to 2:00 to 1:00 than
we will be to even money by the time we get to post op.
I don't know if Matthew agrees with that.
Yeah, I, I actually would probably agree with that because
I think there's enough other intriguing horses.
I think if it's just if I take some money, I think even
Chadalos might take a little bit of money.
And it would be interesting to see if just basking takes money
because people latch on to that one and a quarter mile victory
and and go, well, she can do the distance sort of thing.
But yeah, I, I listen, she's roll tied in terms of like,
couldn't she win this race? Yes, if they run it 100 times,
she probably wins the most out of everybody in this race and
everybody in this field. So yeah, she's absolutely
capable of winning. I do wonder if that lady's
secret is a little bit more of an anomaly in terms of that 99
buyer speed figure. So if you're just looking at the
speed figures, she's kind of mid 80s to high 80s.
And then you see this 99. Now the 99 puts her head and
shoulders above everybody else in the field.
I don't know if that night, I don't know if that 99 was
necessarily a real number to some extent.
You see that sometimes where horses just pop a big effort or
track was playing fast or whatever, what have you.
And so if she runs back to her 86878889, there's really not big
of that much of a gap between her and anybody else in this
race. And I don't know, I'm like I
said, I'm willing to kind of play against her the pedigree as
well. Yes, the candy ride up top.
And and we think of candy ride as this great dirt Ralph sire,
not a necessarily great marathon sire.
And and what's more about the, the damn Tony tools is more of a
sprinter. And so, you know, I, I don't, I
just again, I have questions at the mile and 1/4 and I, I just
wonder if she levels out a little bit.
The 8 horse, the final horse, the field Louis size aboard Neon
Icon again, the only other horse that has won at a mile and a
quarter in this race. Louis 15 to one big number.
Where are you at on this one? I'm real tied here and it's more
getting back to what I think she wants to do that that stretch,
that run at the Indiana Oaks is so short and I think she just
didn't have time to make her run.
And with every bit of respect to Edgar Morales, I like to move
back to Luis Saez here, who's Speaking of guys that are in the
zone right now mentioned Tyler earlier on the show.
Luis is riding as well as he has all summer right now.
I expect her to give her a bit, expect him to give her a very
fair trip. I know the numbers aren't there
on paper as far as wire speed figures, those kinds of things.
But that Thursday night, man, when she won, we were there in
terrible weather at Churchill Downs in a mile and 1/4, she
could not have looked more comfortable.
Maybe a little moisture in the track.
Maybe we get lucky by the end of the day.
Matthew and it's neon icon. What?
What is the flower of choice for the Alabama?
Is it Doctor Pepper? It's going to be a carnation if
I feel like a like a white carnation actually.
A good question I'm never good with.
That I never trap bags over the over the horse to to represent
Alabama. Is that how it works?
I'm like pooping on Alabama. Should be what it should be
Houndstooth, right? It should be.
Houndstooth. Yeah.
Oh, that's way better. Oh man, I should have gone with
that. An eagle just scoops in.
Chase all of. Them she's you know, it's
interesting. She's probably a little more War
Eagle for me. But listen, if if Louie's
aggressive out of the gate, which he tends to be, and he
gets this horse to sit the trip she sat to back at Churchill and
then she's real serious. And, and I will say, if you ask
me which horse do I think is better at the same price between
her and just basking? I would say just basking.
But if you're saying just basking is 1/3 of the price of
neon icon, well, I'm more interested in neon icon then.
And so this is where price and all this stuff kind of comes
into play. You know, I think the far
outside post shouldn't be that much of A deterrent because it's
such a long run up to the first turn.
Everybody's going to get their spot, you know, wherever they
want to be. I don't think anybody's going to
be hung, you know, really more than two wide probably going
into that first turn. So I'm not too worried about
that. And you're right that Louis has
kind of heated up a little bit in this last couple of weeks
after getting off to a really slow start at Saratoga.
So, you know, I think, again, another daughter of Arrogate and
I think that's something. Listen, there's two gun runners
in this race. There's two Arrogates in this
race. There's a candy ride.
I mean, the pedigree is to tell you these are horses that are
meant to be going this mile and a quarter.
So a little bit more War Eagle for me, but certainly going to
get a big price. So who was on top for you there?
The 6th best justify. That's going to be my top
choice, followed by Candied and then Chad a loss as my third
choice. Oh OK, I went 768 he went 6-7
and A2 for people keeping track. There you go.
We got same top two at least so there you go late part of that
sequence. Is there anyone that makes
sense, Matthew, in the last two races, if you happen to have
looked at them at this point, you know, either in that state
bread maiden and I think it's probably 3-5 in the last race
and just move on and then. Before.
That in that starter allowance, does anyone stand out?
That's real special there. Yeah, I agree with you about the
last race. I mean, George Weaver on the
turf is is is tough to get around.
I will say, you know, I kind of like so I'd say the four who's
the king is kind of an interesting play in that 11th
race. A little bit of a price.
And this is a little bit more of like Linda Rice is not
necessarily firing up here at Saratoga.
Sappy Joseph Junior is firing up here at Saratoga.
So that's a little bit more of a trainer play.
And the other piece of advice I would give people that Dylan
Davis bet Mark Cassie if you're playing Saratoga, it's just that
simple. Some days Mark Cassie is winning
34% of his entries. It's insane.
He's just absolutely crushing these two year old races.
He's got a slew of good two year olds this year and Dylan Davis
flat bet ROI on every single mount Dylan Davis has had would
have returned after today $3.86. I mean, it just flat betting
Dylan Davis at this point, I mean he's bringing home $20
winners almost every single day and and doing it easy.
So those two are just having a phenomenal meet.
All right, there it is. Matthew Vesantis with naira
Bets. Join us, man.
He's becoming like a regular. I don't know if he likes that.
Yeah, no. No, I very much will like that.
OK. All right.
OK, yeah. Well, he's got to hang out on
Friday mornings and stuff and he's like, oh, can you tell
people you're doing something really cool actually at Saratoga
that I want people to know about?
You're doing these, I don't want to call them seminars, but like
AB, CS, abetting kind of thing in the mornings.
What are those called? How can people find those if
they happen to be up in New York?
Yeah. So thanks for mentioning this,
Louis. So it's called the betting
basics show that I do. I don't know why we said show,
but it's not really like a whole production, but.
That is amazing. Yeah, right.
Now I think like the price is right, but no, it's at the port,
so it's right on the track. If you go to where the red and
white awning is and you just head there in the morning
workouts, it's from 9:00 to 9:30.
So it's after kind of breakfast at the track and I go over a
race every day. So tomorrow I'm going over the
Skidmore Stakes, which is the second race on the card, and we
handicap it from a standpoint of teaching people how to handicap
for pace, for class, for speed and for form.
And, and then we talked a little bit about how to bet races and
some different strategy that you can use in there.
So we do it. It's free every Friday from 9:00
to 9:30. People can come to the porch at
the track. If you're up there at Saratoga,
love to see you. Average age of my students, if
you will, is about 86 at this point.
But you know, we're, I, I kid, I actually had a group of women
who were celebrating one of their 50th birthday.
And then the next week I had a young man and this was really
cool. His parents brought him to the
track for his 18th birthday as as a, and so they said you got
to teach him how to bet. And the best part was I saw him
and his parents towards the end of the day and the kid was up 20
bucks on the day. So I said, hey, we've done our
job. So.
That's how you know the difference.
We have a lot of fun. An 18 year old kid in Kentucky
is not betting for the first time.
No, no, they've been going the window for a long time.
My 8 year old has my 8 year olds cash a lot on exact as I just
got here. I mean I listen I want to say
did you look at the kings plate at all?
Do you have a Play of the Kings plate?
Yeah, actually I just did a video for Naira Bets YouTube on
the Kings plate. So I I talked to Jeff Bratt.
Who's the oh good guys? Up there and so talked about
that. I, I, I, I think it's kind of
Essex Serpent who's the 2nd cast.
I'm going against my boy Prince. I'm going with the number three
and I'll be honest, I think the number 2 horse and I'm
forgetting the name a little bit.
Rapperoo Rapperoos winning the Pigs play this weekend.
That's happened. To the two horse OK, so that's
it. That was my long shot that I
liked in that race. So I I think, you know, you give
me a young horse with ascending speed figures, I just throw
money at those angles. So yeah, I like both those a
little bit more than my boy Prince.
Who's the more? The added distance for Rapperu.
I'm all in the two horse here. We're getting like 910 to one.
Let's go. That's that's my plan.
Rapperu. Yeah, Rapperu all.
Right, like. It well rapperu thank you
Matthew. We'll talk to you next time,
brother. Absolutely.
Thank you so much guys. Really appreciate it all.
Right. There you go, Matthew.
Matthew de Santis, There you go. What's it like to have hair?
I'll tell you what, these guys with his hair and everything.
Else it's a nuisance, like it's a little.
Yeah, it's a real nuisance, yeah.
No, I gotta get cut. Can't just manscape the top
there. No, no, I just.
Manscape. I'm getting a little thin
though. Like, look, you're there.
See? Just got to figure that out.
Oh, there. You go, how about that?
Mike's a liar. Having hair is great.
I agree with Zach. If people want to see me without
hair, go find my House Hunters episode.
Mike was on House Hunters, that's true.
And there was no hair on your face either.
Just clean I bet guaranteed. People probably look at that and
be like, that's not you. Hey, I want to be clear.
No one's going to have to find it on your final episode.
We're going to clip it, Dude. We're playing it on the show.
Whatever, Mike, whatever. Mike hangs it up.
That's what we'll do. I, I have, I downloaded the the
episode to make sure I've got it.
It's on my desktop of my computer.
Funny thing is, is that guy, the guy from that show is we're
doing a transaction right now. So that was 10.
Shut up. Yeah, he's we.
We're working together on something, right?
Now, oh, that's funny. And they're actually, they're
actually one of my favorite real estate stories all the time.
Not this. I'm not going to bore people
with it, but yeah, they, they basically, I had to win them
over a little bit. So, you know, they had had, they
got hurt in the past and they had not had a good person.
And I mean, it wasn't like they were homeless for a week or
anything like that, but they still don't ever.
I wouldn't do it to you, and I didn't do.
It to you. We're not going to mention her
name anyway. Yeah, it is just really, it
really was one of those things that was pretty awesome.
And, well, house hunters. Yeah, there you go.
So there you go. They're out there working it,
getting, getting some old county property, some more Oldham
County. Property.
That's right. There you go.
More Oldham County property. That last phrase, by the way,
Saturday, Saratoga on the bougie turf course.
How about that bougie turf course?
How about that? Yeah, when you when you hear
melon, melon turf course and you hear the state.
Of three things, I think. One thing.
The Melon turf course. Bougie turf course.
No, I think a freaking the Rodney Dangerfield's character
in Back to School, which is Thordon Mellon.
It is right? Thordon Mellon school
businessman. Let's go.
That is one of the most underrated 80s movies of all
time. Isn't.
Ronnie, huh? Isn't Mellon The Mellon school
is the school. Oh, OK.
It's the name of the medical school in Pittsburgh.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. And then Carnegie Melon of.
Course, Yeah, Thornton Melon. I was thinking of fruit, the
turf course and boobs. Boobs, yeah.
Well, boob talk. You go, you're more of the.
Melons. For is melon a word?
Melon. People still say melons.
Nice melons. Nice melons.
I don't really think people say that anymore because they like
they don't want to get hit or sexual harassment charges, but
maybe I. Don't know.
I wasn't talking about that baby.
I was talking about the turf. Course, people actually say that
to him every once in a while. Yeah.
It's not good. Yeah.
Yeah. All right, So that's all we got.
It's all we. Got we're.
Thank you, Matthew. Matthew DeSantis, thanks for
joining us. Twitter followers got good stuff
on YouTube. Hail the menace.
Get out there. It was interesting.
Actually his naira bets feed is really good.
They were, it was interesting because when I was at Delmar
last week, they were, you know, a lot of people there who were
in our group. We, we had 70 like 2GO with us
to Delmar. And then they don't really
understand just para mutual wagering and all that stuff.
And they're like, well, why would they teach you how to bet
or whatever else or tell you who to bet on?
Doesn't, you know, like just explaining to people?
That when the house wants you to get a house, yeah.
They want to keep, they just want you to keep betting as
long. As you win, they make more
money. That's right.
Yeah. So the more you bet, the more
you keep betting, the more that take out is.
It has nothing to do with like. So by the way, next week, busy
week on the show, just so people know, and I am completely
blanket on his name, but but no, we'll have Steve Kornacki for
our preview. We're having Steve Kornacki.
There it is like. Isn't the Democratic National
Convention going on next week in?
How about you don't worry? How about you don't worry about
how big this show is now? Because we are.
Serious. Hey, Kamala, move over.
It is Harris. Thank you for running for
president. It's horse racing happy hour
time. How about that?
Thank you very much. It's happening that is true,
right? And that next week the the.
Oh, no, I have the e-mail right here.
Yeah. And then Wednesday, special
edition of the Horse Racing Happy Hour.
I'm talking with Paul, a different name I had.
Paul Espinoza is the track announcer at Charlestown.
Their big day is Charlestown Classic Friday night.
They do that on purpose, so it's the day before the traverse.
Driving Night Lights, baby. So Friday Night Lights, we'll
have him on. We'll talk the all stakes
sequence. That way then horse is going to
run both. Well, obviously, yeah, yeah,
yeah. It is 1941 after all.
That's right, Right. And and then he's going to be on
Wednesday and Friday with me next week.
On radio. But yeah, Speaking of another
old man. Named Churchill was wearing a
West Virginia shirt. I'm like, bro, if you're if
you're trying to get business, don't wear that here.
Don't do that. What are you doing around here?
That's the only, pretty much the only state that we feel sorry
for that the. No, but like, like Louisville
fans cannot stay in West Virginia.
Yeah, but they don't. I don't think that's how big we
do anymore. I really don't.
No, because Big E is dead. If the Big East is still going,
I think it'd be a bigger. Deal Louisville back in the Big
12, like goes to the Big 12. That's happening, isn't?
It has to play Cincinnati and West Virginia.
That'd be fun. Well, it.
Sounds like the big Big 12 thing's happening.
Well, that would be fun, yeah. I hope that happens when the ACC
just falls apart here pretty soon person.
Yeah, Paul Espinoza, little Steve Kornacki will do the
shows. I I did laugh because I said it
to him, expecting him to say no. Yeah, he's like, Oh, yeah.
He's like, he's like spa, let's go.
Let's go. Let's do this, man.
Come on. There's nothing going on.
They know who their person's going to be.
Let me tell you what she's going to say, blah, blah, blah.
You know? Yeah, it probably.
Already got that? It is.
It is interesting, though, because Kornacki's like an
election history geek. Actually, it's making me feel
like this Democrat National Convention might not be live.
It's already recorded there. Wouldn't that be amazing when
you find out that they just already did it?
It's just done. By the way, if people haven't
seen the video, is it 9092 or 96 whenever the Macarena was out
and they danced the Macarena at the Democratic National
Convention. It's all time great video.
I mean top five political video of all time.
I just Churchill World War 2 speech, Gettysburg Address
Macarena at the Democratic National Convention.
It's not even close. Hillary Clinton gets down, dude.
It's great. I love it that.
High level. Oh geez.
You not seen it? No, I don't want to see it.
I'm I'm still recovering from watching Hulk Hogan.
Join us next week with Steve Kornacki.
Does the Macarena. You understand me?
We're doing it. You think he does the Macarena?
Do do do. I don't even know if I do.
Do, do, do, do. Yeah.
Are you going? To play us out here, Zach,
because I think we're done.
