Oh yes, the geeky music has begun.
That means it's. Time for another edition of the
horse racing. Happy hour hanging out with
Josh, Barry and Chase. I'm Lou Remote.
Thanks for making us part of your NBA Finals week.
How about that? Ready for Pacers and OK C Josh,
Who wins how many games? I this is the first time
realizing that the Finals are going on, but I'm going to say
not the Pacers, 'cause you know, I don't like the Pacers.
Wolf band throwing. Up so yes all.
Right. It's a solid answer, Chase.
What say you? Which team and how many games?
You know what Jalen Williams? Dad used to buy tip sheets from
me. So we're going to say the
Oklahoma City Thunder. Sweep, obviously, if he's buying
tip sheets, what say Barry? OK, C in four Sweetville all.
Right, I got the Pacers. Winning.
Get him up out of here. But I've got OK C going 3 and O
they're in the middle of Oklahoma.
Welcome in this is our Belmont Day preview.
We'll be going through the pick six.
You'll know Josh at cherry drink from the on the wrong Lead
podcast. You can find sniper himself,
Barry Spears. I call him Barry.
Mom, it's OK, I call him Barry. And of course Chase as well from
the notorious OTB. Find those guys for their daily
plays over there and of course, their budget plays as well.
Cannot recommend those enough. Make sure that you check out all
these guys on their various platforms, but thank you for
finding us tonight on the horse Racing Happy hour.
I'm here every Thursday. You can also find all of the
other work that I do, including Blood Horse Monday, the Kentucky
Racing Spotlight, and of course with Barry Socal Saturdays.
You can find all of that on our platform.
So if you haven't started following it wherever you get
your podcast, you're certainly welcome to do that as well.
Spotify, probably the easiest way to watch everything as well.
We're presented by DK Horse tonight.
Want to thank them for jumping in on this episode as well.
But guys, I wanted to start kind of an open conversation 'cause I
haven't gotten to hang out with the three of you since the first
two legs of the Triple Crown have happened.
But of course, I'm a lucky guy. I got to go to both.
I have my own feelings on both. Barry, I'll go to you first.
Derby winner doesn't ship to Baltimore, but we get this
rematch in the Belmont. Coming out of the Derby, how are
you feeling about all these horses?
I thought it was one of the rare cases, Barry, where we got, hey,
we think these five horses are going to go to the front and
they did. And we got these like 5-6 horses
that are going to stalk and they actually did.
And then we had like 8-9 horses that are going to be trying to
close and they they did. I thought it was not a form full
Derby, but essentially a form full Derby coming out of it.
How did you feel? Yeah, I agree with you quite a
bit. I think it was fairly form full.
The horses that were supposed to run kind of ran, you know,
especially speed figure wise. They they really ran up to that,
which was surprising because it never typically happens that
way. Coming out of it.
The Preakness was an amazing race and now everybody's kind of
assembled back together for the Belmont.
It should be an interesting race.
Yeah, how about for you, Chase, going into that Preakness,
shaking off the anger of sovereignty not being there?
How much of A favorite was journalism in your head?
You know, I really didn't think that he was going to have the
set up. I thought that he maybe had
distance questions a little bit, you know, with a little bit of
a, you know, less runway to close into.
I, I thought that he was might have been like up against it.
I thought a horse like clever again might be good.
I was wrong. I was very wrong.
And I think that what journalism was able to do in that stretch
drive was one of the more freakish things that I've seen
in horse racing and it was so, so impressive.
And you know, he, he was the fitting, fitting winner.
But I, I was way off from it. I had Gossgar across the board,
Josh, I'm sure you have very little sympathy for me on that.
However, outside of a Triple Crown opportunity at Saratoga,
is this the best possible outcome that the Derby runner up
wins the Preakness and we get the rematch of those two?
I think so. I think this is, I think this is
a very, very interesting rendition of the Belmont.
You know, obviously it's going to be the, the shorter distance
with it being at Saratoga. So I'm, I'm sure there's already
the Boo birds out there, you know, already, you know, putting
the asterisks all over everything.
But yeah, you know, you want to see the best horses race, right?
And, and it's kind of funny. I, you know, I listen to a lot
of podcasts on in, in the gambling space, not just horse
racing, right? And, and I made a post about
this actually the other day, two separate podcasts I listen to
with, with big followings that that do a lot of gambling
outside of horse racing. Both of them basically said, I
didn't watch the Preakness. You know, it's like the, the,
the Kentucky Derby winner didn't run back.
So I didn't watch it. And so it, it's, it was really
interesting to hear that because it, in my mind, I, I always
thought, you know, well, you know, everyone only watches
these three races, right? And then maybe the Breeders cup
if they're really into it, right?
But you know, they were both like both these pockets.
Like, no, we, we didn't talk about, they didn't talk about
Preakness at all. They talked about the Derby.
They didn't talk about the Preakness at all.
So I do think kind of having the rematch is going to, is going to
get a little bit more of not just us hardcore players, guys
who play every week, every day, maybe, but also get a lot of the
casual fans. I think that to kind of tune
back in for that rematch. By the way, shout out to our guy
Roger Barry. You're going to get to meet
Roger in about a month at the Indiana Derby.
Says no way Pacers and six. This show does have a fair
following in the Central IN region.
So we do appreciate everybody there hanging out with us.
We will be up at the Indiana Derby again this year.
You'll see me on the draw, of course, the Monday before.
Get in with all of that with us as well.

Expires in 30 days, ends 6-7. See terms at
dkhorse.com/bet/offers/details. All right guys, so we're going
to look at the Pick 6 tonight and that will start with race 8
and the Met Mile. This one came up a little, a
little wider I think on total number of entries here,
certainly not on quality, certainly on the inside of this
race. Anyone surprised that Nicos
decided to ship West or or do we think that that was sort of part
of a longer term strategy for him?
Barry, what do you think? Yeah, I think they they really
want to crack at the Breeders Cup with that horse and, and,
you know, being out West is definitely an advantage.
You know, training and and running out there.
This race was kind of tough, even for Nicos.
So I, I, I I can understand why they did, why the connections
did what they did. Isos, of course, a winner in his
last outing in the grade three out there at Santa Anita.
Mind Frame gets the grade one. Josh.
You think that's why he's skipping here?
I, I mean, I think so, you know, I, I think maybe he's, he's
dodging, dodging fierceness a little bit here.
Not, not that I blame him. And you know, I was talking with
with Andrew Champagne earlier this this week on on our podcast
and he had mentioned, you know, with with kind of some of the
rearranging of stakes. You know, there's the seven
furlong stakes. Was it the true north?
I think on here he thinks that maybe that might have
cannibalized this race a little bit.
And I know with, with kind of the moving around of some of the
dates with Saratoga, they've moved some of these stakes
around. So I, I think maybe some, some
horses that might have come here went to the true North instead,
or maybe waiting for a different spot in a week or two.
So yeah, I, I, I, I do, I do think that you have a, you have
a good group of horses here. I mean, I'll be, I'll be at 5,
but there, there's definitely a a couple of names missing that I
think should be here. Yeah, the true north is Race 7.
We're going to start with Race 8 here.
It is the Met Mile. It's a mile about that, about a
turn and a half there at at Old Saratoga.
We are looking for $1,000,000 in the prize pool here.
This is up for three and up here.
Fierceness on the inside, White a barrio to his outside.
Chase will let you go first here, buddy.
I know you're a big fan of fierceness at Saratoga.
I, I'm a huge fan of fierceness and I, I really think that,
especially if you're going to be playing this from like a pick
six sort of point of view that you literally just need to make
your A or B choice here. And I, I'm going to go ahead and
make the, the choice with who I think is the A, which is
fierceness and say that, I mean, with the horses, you know,
sloppy track or money track performances before I'm, I'm
pretty comfortable if this thing comes up wet.
I, I think that it pretty much just sets up for fierceness to
kind of maybe sit inside stock white white Obarrio and just run
right past him. So I think white Obarrio is an
excellent horse. I think he's one of the more
versatile horses that we've had in a very long time.
I give him a ton of credit. I'm not sure if he's the horse
of now, though. I feel like that's probably
fierceness and he's maybe kind of not tailing off, but, you
know, regressing a little bit. Josh, how about you?
Do you like fierceness in this spot as well?
I'm ever the contrarian and, you know, I, I want to beat
fierceness. Unfortunately, I think the only
horse that's run fast enough to beat fierceness at any point his
career is white a barrio. And I, I think you kind of got
a, you kind of got a question if you can get the white a barrio
from, you know, a year and a half ago, because that's, that's
kind of where you're looking back, right?
You're looking back at like the Whitney Breeders' Cup Classic,
white a barrio. And, you know, last year when he
ran in this race, it didn't seem like he, he really liked, you
know, this course configuration. You know, Chase loves, loves,
loves the shoot. And Whatabarro did not love the
shoot as much as Chase does. But you know, I, I, I'm probably
going to give Whatabarro another shot here.
I, I, I don't, I agree with Chase.
If you're going to play the pick six, you you can't.
I think it's not not a great idea to try and use the one and
the two here, right. You got you kind of got to pick
and choose there no problem with anybody who wants the single
fierceness. I'll probably kind of game
theory and and probably just go with white barrio here.
What kind of what kind of percentage of money do you think
Josh will be on, on fierceness in this race in like a pick six
kind of pool, we're looking at 60% plus.
Yeah. I mean this, he's going to be
odds on in this race, I think, I think he's going to be 3:00 to
5:00. So I would guess probably 6070%
of the money is going to be on fierceness.
You know, Barry, we saw why did Barrio run in this race coming
back from the Arabian Peninsula last year?
And so it was a little bit different than it is this year
staying stateside. The horse this year that we're
seeing coming back from a victory overseas is raging
torrent on the outside. Do you make much of his chances
here? You know, he has to be respected
because he's probably going to be the pacesetter.
And I, I really don't know how fast any of these horses will
really want to go early. But I, I would say it would be
to fierceness's advantage to kind of push the pace a little
bit, even though White Barrio does like to close in a little
bit more than fierceness. But I think if fierceness gets
the jump on everybody, you know, first run on that leader, It's
good night, Irene. And Irene reference on the horse
racing Happy Hour, he's Barry, he's Josh on, he's Chase, and
I'm Louis. Thanks for making out of us
tonight. As the number grows online,
you're certainly welcome to comment.
We will throw those things up in the chat for you today as well.
We move on to race 9 as the boys.
Have fun. Just get your grievances out in
public here, people. You don't need a private chat on
this thing. Just just yell at each other.
And this is a family, right? This is an ugly, unattractive,
smelly family. Just get in here, start yelling
at each other. We'll make it.
Have about the unattractive part I like.
To have my demographic, Louie. The Jay Fair is going to be
raced. I had another Grade 1 here by
the way. Better overall card.
Usually Belmont day or Derby day.
Which one are you guys going with?
Hates. I hate to say it with the word
Louisville on my chest, but it's always Belmont Day, man.
What? Don't you agree?
Yeah, because the Met Mile always ends out.
The Met Mile man comes up. Yeah.
The only thing is they have moved some of those races to
Friday. That used to be on Saturday.
It was untouchable on before they they made it a 2 day thing
for sure, like Acorn and you know the the Ogden Phipps all
that. When those were on Saturday,
this was an untouchable good card.
Maybe I think better than like British Cup Juvenile Dave and
that kind of thing. And so it, it was, it was high,
high level. And I I still think it's, it's
one of the great, great cards in.
America, Brooklyn this year, by the way, don't did they always?
Not running it, Brooklyn, they're not running it.
They're running it, I think 4th of July weekend 4th.
Of July. Yeah.
Oh, they have. OK, thank goodness.
OK, so Next does have something to do this year still, it's our
play. Like, what do I do next?
Schafer's gonna be race nine, Grade 1.
And by the way, on this show, we celebrate bougie turf courses.
This is the Mellon turf course there at Saratoga.
It's like the Widener turf course.
You give me a good bougie turf course and I'll pay attention. 5
1/2 going real fast on this one. Half million bucks in here.
This is for three and up on the turf here, We'll let Barry go
first. Who's your sprinter du jour,
buddy? Well.
This race, is it it? It frustrates me because, you
know, I want to bet against think big like I did the last
three times where he's won big. And I, I, I want to believe that
that horse had two really perfect trips back-to-back and I
was trying to find a way to get that horse beat in this race.
I may have found it, but I'm not as confident as I would like to
be. I, I, I think a horse like my
boy Prince really stands a good chance.
I, I like that comeback race on May 3rd.
You know, beat bold Journey and Alagoon, which aren't the best
horses in this race, but it was a great comeback race and I
think that sets this horse up to run big, can be close to the
pace, be a little bit off it. I think that's to his advantage
and hopefully he can kind of beat Think Big to that spot and
get there. That's really the hope.
Think Big has been running excellent.
So it's it's a tough task. I think it's going to be a
course that you get every bit of that number on as well.
So if you can hit there, I think you're totally correct about
that. Of course, that elusive quality
that he's referencing there at Aqueduct, the splits early on 21
and change 44 and change 55 and three.
I think those are winning times, Barry.
So if you can recreate those at Saratoga, certainly got a shot.
Josh, where'd you land here? Yeah.
So up until the well, when I first looked at this race, the
one thing I told myself was in no way, shape or form am I going
to have any real money through Coppola because that horses
burned me way too much. Then I watched the 1st 2 days of
turf racing at, at Saratoga and I'm like, I think I need to have
all my money through Coppola because the turf course has just
been playing very, very speed friendly, very, very fast.
Barry, I, I'm with you. I'm, I'm going to try and beat
the two. Think big.
You know, depending on what figures you look at.
He, he looks good, like he's fine.
He fits in with this group. Like he, he fits in very well.
He doesn't fit in six to five very well, right?
He's not, he's not a standout by any means, depending on what
figures you're looking at. So I, I think you can, you have
a couple alternatives. I think I'll have some money
through your the four that you mentioned, my boy Prince.
That figure came back very nicely on on time form.
And then obviously Coppola I'm going to use because of the the
pace factor. And then the other two horses
that I think kind of stand out from a, from a like a speed
figure perspective to me are the 9AG bullet and the five Arzak.
And, you know, Arzak's kind of sneaky because I, I kind of feel
like he he'll, he'll run a, a good race or two and then he
just kind of like he falls off a little bit and then he ends up
coming back. And, you know, he ran second in
this race last time, obviously closing from off the pace and he
finished second to a nice horse in Cogburn.
So, you know, there's no Cogburns in this race.
So I think, I think Arzak's actually pretty interesting at
the 8:00 to 1:00 morning line. But I'm going to be pretty
spread here. I'm going to have the I'm going
to have the four, the five, the nine and the 10 in here.
All right, how about for you trace spread race for you?
Yeah. It's definitely a spread race
because it's just a a matter of run style.
Anytime I take a horse off the pace, I throw a run style at the
problem. So a lot of the horses they
mentioned are horses I'm going to be using like Arzak.
I'm also going to use a little bit of the of the 8 Allegon.
But the horse that I'm going to go ahead and take as my top pick
is going to be the 3R shot for John Terranova, Luis Saez up.
If you look at what Luis Saez has done whenever he's made the
the change to this horse, he moved this horse forward what,
14 points the first time he dropped on and then was winning
the Woodford a couple races later.
I think that size is going to have them placed pretty, you
know, fairly aggressively right off of this pace.
You have two straight trips off of the layoff where I consider
them to be trouble. You have, you know, being stuck
between horses and you're in the 6th path in the in the next race
out in the Shaker town. So I, I really like our shot
here to maybe take a just a tremendous step forward and come
from a little bit off the pace with Luis Saez.
And, you know, I, I do think that that big, that think big is
probably your best horse here and it does check a lot of like
serious fanboy boxes for me with Godolphin and Ben Curtis.
But I, I, I think that you, if you're playing the pick six, you
either need to single that horse or toss it.
I toss it and I look at our shot instead.
OK. I agree with you about our shot.
By the way, four runs at Saratoga as well, never missed
the board. So that horse runs well at
Saratoga as well. I've got that horse second in my
handicapping. I do think I agree with you.
I do think think big is the is the class here and we have seen
that it for some reason last couple years that Fairgrounds
Turf seems to travel and so that horse seems to have taken his
form with him there as well. The Pendant Ridge will be race
10. This is on the inner turf, Boo.
We only want bougie turf courses on this show, but we're going to
run there anyway. This is a grade three, $300,000
on the line here, mile on a 16th.
This is for three-year olds. We get Zulu Kingdom in here who
has no business in a grade 3 and so he's six to five in this
field. But man, this is when we go to
young Josh and Josh tells us here's why a 12 to one horse is
going to win this race. I I can't do 12 to one, but I
can do half that I can do 6 to 1 and that's the number 7 horse MI
Bago. I I think there's only two
horses in this race that can win obviously, I think the one Zulu
Kingdom, if you look at any of his figures, you know, he's he's
not that much faster than everybody in Europe.
I mean, he is faster, but the seven Mibago's last race
actually matches up very, very well with Zulu Kingdom's run and
you're going to get four or five times the price on on Mibago,
especially, you know, everyone's going to see Chad Brown at
Saratoga horses going to be, you know, close to even money, maybe
even odds on. So I I think you're going to get
a nice price on Mibago and you know, if the if the turf is
playing as B friendly as it was today.
I mean, obviously the six in the last race, you know, came from
off the pace and won, but. But every basically everything
else was you had to be right on the front end in order to win on
the turf course. So Mibago's got that that early
speed, and he's going to be an A for me along with Zulu Kingdom.
Yeah, I think Mibago sets up as as as good front running speed
here. Chase, is there someone else
you're keying in on though? Yeah, I'm, I mean dream dreaming
even bigger than the 12 to one that you threw out as a
hypothetical. I I'm taking Tom's magic 15 to 1
here One I I think it fits the horse has been on the steady
improve really great workouts leading into this with a bunch
of really good 5 furlong. You know, works with a a nice
little 4 furlong leg stretcher right before this race.
And if you give me Ben Curtis at 15 to one on the turf, I'm going
to take it every single. If there was an electrical shock
that came every time I bet Ben Curtis on the turf, I would be
dead from electrical current at this point.
Yeah, I didn't know how to finish that.
I'm not going. To lie?
No. I thought I was going to explain
the beard. Barry, What?
What's going on with you in this race?
To no surprise to anyone, I'm sure I'm, I'm going to throw one
down field here and I'm going to go with the maiden.
If this horse gets in, if this horse runs in this spot, I want
to play the maiden #9 Noble Confessor.
If you look at that September 28th, 2024 race where this horse
lost to Zulu Kingdom, should have won that day.
Got held up mid stretch. Zulu Kingdom had the best run of
all and this horse was closing like a freight train.
Should have beat Zulu Kingdom that day.
Then went out to the Juvenile turf, got dumped, didn't run all
that badly and and was kind of closing in.
That race comes off the shelf May 4th, runs really good and I
think this is the right spot. You know, this isn't the
greatest rendition of any steak race, let alone a greatest steak
race. Zoo Kingdom's probably up
against it, despite, you know, his last race being the best
buyer on the page. It just seems right to me for
something weird to happen. If noble confessors in, I'm
taking him. If he's not, I'm taking MI Bago.
OK, I agree about MI Bago. The one that I can't figure out
in here guys is AP kid, the two horse here off the layoff off a
maiden wind down at Gulfstream Park and I very intentional.
I think placement in this spot by Todd Pletcher interested that
he thought that this was the next place for this horse to
land. Now to be fair, when you
nominate a horse for a grade three, I imagine you don't think
you know who's going to be in here Zulu Kingdom.
I imagine he wasn't thinking that and so I I have to think
now he's looking at this is OK, $300,000 race go get a check
here. I think underneath this horse is
really, really fascinating. Any any love for the the Derby
alum in here in flying Mohawk. I know that he did his Derby
qualifying on the synthetic, but before that, of course, we did
see him on the turf. He did break his maid and do
from that 3 seconds there. Anyone think he's got a shot
here? Yeah, absolutely.
I I think it's once again a matter of matter of run style.
If you were thinking that like a Zulu Kingdom or like I'm saying
with the the five, sorry, Tom's magic there, you got to put that
one in there with it because this was actually the way I
projected should be sitting, you know, in the two paths in the
clear off of this. You're a little bit discouraged
by the performance on a yielding turf surface with the weather
that they're supposed to get. You're a little concerned that
he didn't perform on a sloppy track, but you have plenty of
excuses there. But from a pay standpoint, you
know, he's got all the chance in the world.
So if you from if you're going to take a pic, you know, play a
pick 6, I would absolutely include flying Mohawk on your
tickets all. Right, there you go.
We'll move on to the next race, of course, which will be the
saltiest, I think of the races this weekend in the Woody
Stevens. That'll come up as race 11 here,
7 furlongs on the dirt there. No need for the shoot.
We'll we run it for a half million dollars here.
And of course, this is for three-year olds.
So the under car, the the Sir Barton, the the Pat Day mile of
the Belmont Stakes. That's what this race is here.
Some names that everyone who follows horse racing this year
should know. Big Trust, Maticot Rd.
Macho Music Patch, Adams, Citizen Bowl back in here out of
his Derby run Neil echos as well out of the Derby.
Some other interesting horses guys.
I'll go first here just because I think some long shots are are
interesting in this spot. I think the 11 and gates of wire
is one that we've all got to watch.
I don't want to forget that Swale at the beginning of
February comes back here at the seven furlong distance.
I think he's a real problem here.
I think the outside gate sets up really well for him as well.
Dylan Davis will give him every opportunity on the outside.
Only question here is, is he fast enough and did he get
enough out of that? Pat Damile didn't obviously
didn't love the slop. If it ends up sloppy, I don't
know that I would use him in this spot.
But if it's anything better sloppy, I think he's going to be
a factor. So gate to wire on the outside,
the son of monings, I think really interesting here.
Barry, where did you land in the Woody Stevens?
Yeah, I, you know, I'm not going to be too creative here, but I
think the two Baffert horses were always meant to Sprint, OK.
And, and I think in fact, Maticot Rd. is probably going to
be the greatest beneficiary of the cutback, even more so than
Citizen Bowl, especially in this race, because Citizen Bowl was,
you know, going a mile and eighth mile and a quarter
cutting back Mannequin Rd. His last race at a mile was
pretty good against macho music. And I think getting back to
those Sprint type distances and this 7 furlongs, I think hit
some right between the eyes. I doubt we're going to get 12:50
on this horse, but I don't think this horse is going to be
favored either. How about for you, Josh?
Yeah, So you know, unfortunately it looks like the the seven
colloquial is scratching out of here and and it it kind of
changed my opinion a little bit. I actually I I was using one of
my my best bets on on the day in here on the one big Truss
because I thought that there's this going to be a very, very
large amount of speed in here. And if you kind of go through
and look through a lot of these horses, you see a lot of ones,
you see a lot of horses that have a bunch of twos and just
never pass horses. And it's just like, you know,
these, these young horses, if they don't develop that ability
to pass horses, you know, sometimes you just get a bunch
of needed lead types. And big Truss is a horse that's
consistently passed other horses.
And I thought he was going to get some good pace in this race.
So I, I, I'm still going to use big Truss.
I, I agree with you, Barry. I think if you want one of the
Baffords, you take the 2 Madocat Rd.
I think he is a sprinter. I mean his two his one turn
races look great. His two turn races look not as
good. And you know, I I'm going to I'm
going to use macho music here again, the winner of the Pat de
mile. I I don't know if the horse just
freaked on a, on a muddy track. Obviously Mclean's music tap it
on the bottom that screams mud pedigree.
So, you know, maybe just move forward off that.
But that's going to be another horse.
It's going to be kind of forward.
I agree with you on gate to wire.
You cross out the the last two efforts and you look at that 7
furlong race, which is what he's doing here.
That's the best race I think anyone's run in this entire
field. So I think gate to wire makes a
ton of sense. I mean, honestly, like you, you
can make a case for so many, so many horses in this field.
I mean, heck, I was, I was almost talking myself into
Chancellor Mcpatrick earlier this week and that was, that was
like that horse was about to hit my, my never, my never list.
And but yeah, I, I think, I think top picks I, I'm gonna
look at the two inside horses, the one and the two.
You know, I'll have a little bit of the three and the 11 here as
well though. Nick concerned that Chase is
gonna say there's a pious meltdown coming.
Time to bet down the favorite, the three to five.
Go Chase. Yeah, I I'm gonna actually go
with the number 8 gun medal as my as my top pick here at 8:00
to 1:00 or 8:00 to 1:00 or six to one, eight to one.
They make the 8:00 to 1:00. The print is so small.
I have these terrible. Yeah.
Looks fantastic in the tune up for this race and I think that
Irad's going to put this horse right off of Maticot Rhodes hip
and this horse is going to sit chilly and blow past him in the
turn. I really like the setup here.
I think this pace is really interesting because I don't
think it necessarily gets like fast, but it's very compact.
I think everyone wants to be in one space all at once.
So I do really kind of condone the the spreading out here with
with multiple horses. I would look at using like the
four patch Adams, the 8 gun metal and I've just mushed the
bejesus out of this worst, worst gate to wire the eleven.
No way that horse is winning now, but I like it.
I like it too. So yeah, I I was I I thought you
spread out. You taking something a little
bit off the pace or something that can just sit right off and
rate? I'm going to say this out loud
and I can't believe I'm saying it.
I think the Derby winner at or the Derby alum that's at
Saratoga this weekend that has the best chance to win is Neo
Aquos. I think that horse actually will
really like sprinting. I think this is the domestic
product of this year where the horse ran in bigger company
before and I think because I think getting back to one turn,
if you go back to what this horse did well and I know it was
against day bred company and all of those things, this is still a
developing horse. This is still a son of
Neolithnik. I think he can still step up and
get better. Those two turn races.
If you look at the Florida Derby, this horse had the lead
at the top of the stretch and I get it.
He doesn't win the race to Pan St.
Sovereignty. They overtake him.
That's not his job to go a mile in an eighth anymore.
His job is to go 7 furlongs and I think Neil Echos is an
interesting entry in here and I think it's not an accident that
Safi Joseph Junior has him running in this spot.
By the way, Nick comes to your your aid here and says because
you crushed, you know, you crushed the pick pot.
That's why we're talking bleep. That's all it is.
I mean. Yeah, I've been taking a lot of
potshots lately. I'm starting to feel like Mark
Kappitzan. It's all right.
How dare you have success? Terrible.
We don't. We don't want to eat.
Come on, get out here. Go ahead.
What? What were you saying there?
What was the important? Or were you just clutching your
pearls? I was just clutching.
Got it. Oh, just making sure.
All right, The Manhattan's up next.
It's another Grade 1 stunner. It's a mile and three
sixteenths. And you know where it is on the
proper turf course, that bougie melon turf course at the spa.
The spa we're running for $1,000,000 here.
It is a grade one. This is for four year olds and
up in this spot. And Chase, you get to go first
here, my friend. I think there are a bunch of
different ways to go. Talk to me, Chase.
Louis, I really don't like that. The fact that when you said the
spy, it gave me like the ASMR tingles and I I'm going to have
to make my peace with that later.
I think it was just like, oh, oh, oh, Lou's got a voice on
him. All right, so it's local.
Sports talk radio, baby. That's what that is.
That's what it is. All right.
I I really liked the three highway robber in the spot for
Brian Lynch. Christian Torres.
I mean, I feel like not enough people really know about
Christian Torres. Christian Torres I think he's
going to have this one screaming down the lane late and it's a
horse is going to be able to just lay off the pace and just
come flying with just a fantastic turn of foot.
You expected this horse to do by bounce last out in the turf
classic after coming running a stinker in my dawn comes back to
the United States and just rejuvenate form and puts up
AA100 buyer speed figure a career top.
We're moving off of that that momentum.
We got a nice long 5 furlong work, something I put picked up
from our friend who disappeared. Barry's that that nice long 5
furlong work. Strike in Florida.
He has lost power. We will see if we get Barry back
for this episode. Boy, that's the most Florida
thing I've ever heard in my life.
He's texting me which makes me think he's OK.
But yes, it's the most Florida bleep I've ever heard.
But keep going guys. Yeah Gator don't bit that
transformer yeah so highway robber I I think has you know
the setup has everything going for it.
I I was also really interested and deterministic people make
fun of me for thinking sprints are going to meltdown.
The real shameful thing Louie is the fact that I think that every
turf route is going to get wired and I think that if that's going
to happen it's going to be a deterministic for a Miguel
Clemont with a Gator Kendrick Carmouche.
If I want a horse to get out there and wire, I want Kendrick
Carmouche aboard. So I thought those were the two
horses. I think it's a really good spot
to beat Spear of Saint Louis. This is the most Contra code
horse I've seen in a while with that straight up ABAB pattern.
And we're we're looking at AB here and I think the horse
misses the board. Deterministic.
I could not agree more. Chase.
I've got that horse on top just because he is going to inherit
the lead in this race. And so I do think there's a
chance that Kendrick walks the dog exactly like you described,
and he's capable too. That's the real difference here.
It's going to take a minute to get used to these Clement
trainees previously trained by and seeing that gap in the form.
But obviously Miguel already gotten a win on the turf course
there at at Saratoga. And frankly, I the the most
delicate way I can say this is I don't see there being any kind
of change in the way these horses are being trained.
I think that he only knows one way to do it and it's the right
way and it was the way that his dad showed him.
And I think these horses are very much going to be ready this
weekend like they have been already.
Spirit of Saint Louis is undeniably classy in this spot,
though, and to leave the six out here I think would be a mistake
in longer tickets. Manny Franco is going to give
this one another good ride. He was spectacular at Churchill
Downs in the turf class at the timing could not have been
better. Josh, where did you land in this
one? Yeah, so my strong opinion in
this race is I don't like any of the, I don't like the two short
prices in here, right. The 6th Beard of Saint Louis and
then the 9 Farbridge. I think the I think Farbridge
wants to go further. I, I think he's, you know, like
a mile and a half type horse mile on 3/8 and this we're going
to mile on three sixteenths here.
I, I just think that maybe it's a little sharp for him.
All of his best races have been going, going longer.
Spirit of Saint Louis is just, I mean, I just don't like this
horse. I don't know.
I there's just something, something about it just rubs me
the wrong way. You, you know, like Chad is a
very smart guy And you mean to tell me that he just had this
horse running in the state bred races and just, you know, and
he's just like, ah, he's just a state bred horse And like all of
a sudden it's like, and hey, this is a Grade 1 monster now.
Like, I don't know, man, I I think he's maybe just found a
couple of maybe real soft spots here and I don't know, I this I
think this is the type of horse you got to try and beat.
I think you're you're getting a, a, a short price on this one.
So I agree with both you guys on the five deterministic makes
makes a ton of sense like that horse.
I I also like the two integration.
So kind of the other two logicals in here.
Integration, I think has run a bunch of really good races and
has just happened to run into horses like nation's pride, Carl
Spackler out to name a few. And I think, you know, I think
maybe he'll be able to turn the tide on on Spirit of Saint Louis
here in this spot, Highway robber chase.
I like this horse as well. Makes a bunch of sense.
And and I guess the one horse that that no one's mentioned yet
that I thought was interesting. And I I have to credit my Co
host, Andrew Champagne for this one.
The four Carson's run. You know, I was just like, he
was talking. I was like, dude, like, what are
you talking about? Like, I don't see it.
And then you look back and he's run three times at Saratoga.
He's got two wins in a second, including winning the Saratoga
Derby Invitational last year. And what I, you know, I was just
not not trying to think about the weather too much, but we are
supposed to get some rain, right?
Maybe there's a chance we end up on a good turf course and you
end up on a good turf course, you got to start looking.
All right, Which of these horses have handled the good?
And this is a horse that's one on the good turf going a mile
and three sixteenths here at Saratoga and he's 12 to one.
So I was like, all right, you, you talked me into this one a
little bit. So 12 to one.
I I don't, I mean, it shouldn't take a lot to talk anybody into
12 to one, but you know, I'm gonna be going against the two,
the two favorites in here. I'm gonna use a little bit of
the four Carson's run. My top picks are gonna be the
two integration and the five deterministic.
And I'll use a little bit of Hwy.
Robber in here as well. Did you do the Florida thing,
Barry, and get your power back on?
I don't know what the Florida thing would be for that.
I'm just guessing. Yeah, it's getting a generator
out. Oh, got it.
Welcome back. We're talking about Manhattan.
If you would like to get your take on them at happen.
Yeah, I'm, I'm all aboard the Carson's Run train.
OK. I, I like that horse quite a
bit. I, I was there actually that day
of the Saratoga Derby Invitational because they
cancelled it and it ended up being the like in a weird kind
of pick 345 situation. That's right.
And and it rained like maybe about an hour or so before that
race. So it wasn't that good.
But this horse does like it a little moisture in in the in
give in the turf course. But I mean, this horse was
really good last year. I like this Fort Marcy that the
horse ran on May 3rd. I know Deterministic beat that
horse, but was just a a way better pace scenario for
deterministic. There was no speed in that race.
This horse went wire to wire and has never been better than
Carson's run at any point other than that race.
The rest of the field has much to be desired.
I, I mean integration just for me, I just doesn't do it.
I, I mean this horse always has opportunities to win and just
doesn't do it. Spirit of Saint Louis, I'm with
you. I, I don't know why I don't like
this horse, but I just don't I, I think it's the state bread
wins. And then I know the Pegasus was
a very, very soft race and I'm going to have to kind of re look
at that turf classic because the horses that spirit of Saint
Louis beat. And I thought the, you know,
basically this horse kind of the wind fell into the spirit of
Saint Louis's lap, not that that horse won that race.
So here we have that one, and then Farbridge was getting
really, really, really soft. The two wins that this horse has
this year, Really soft wins against the tomato cans and
nobodies and not many horses at all.
Farbridge can definitely win a race like this but I just don't
think it's going to be on Saturday.
All right, we're gonna run through the Belmont field now.
This is the horse Racing Happy Hour.
My name's Louis Ribow. Presented tonight by DK Horse
used R code HRHH. And get in on their contest this
weekend. Cost you only 5 bucks on a
straight win bet to get in with them.
We play a game every year, gentlemen called Bel.
Yeah. Or Belknot.
All right. And so you tell me if they can
win or not. Do not tell us who your winner
is when they come up. Don't do any of those things.
Just give us an idea if you think this horse is a serious
contender to win the Belmont. We go through the field by post
position. Hill Rd.
The winner of the Peter Pan is in the one here.
Irad Ortiz, Junior, picks up the mount for Chad Brown.
You may have heard of Irad and Chad at Saratoga Berry.
We go to you first. Is this a bell?
Yeah. Or a bell?
Nah. Bell Nah.
OK, Bell, Nah. Any any quick reason?
Probably needs a little bit more seasoning.
That horse isn't ready to win a race like this yet.
OK, fair enough. Chase, how about for you?
Bel Nah, I think this horse is going to leave itself way too
much to do late to be able to to close into the pace and win.
Mr. Cherry, drink Bel Nah. OK, Bel Nah, across the board.
I will stay with that there as well.
I, I, I didn't look up the last time the Peter Pan winner won
the Belmont, but it's been a little while.
Socrates comes out of his Derby win, of course, has been resting
for five weeks, ready to go for this one.
Looks very comfortable up there at Saratoga.
I'll go ahead and start with a bell.
Yeah, because obviously this is one that can win in this spot.
Josh would say you. Bell now this is my other fade
on on the slate double here. OK.
So a bell now from Josh. Any particular reason other than
value or are we just? I think I think value, but I
also think that if you know another horse that's that's
we're going to talk about later has got a much, much bigger
chance and I kind of hate that David are going to let the
entire world know, but. He's good at that, isn't he?
All right, Chase. So you got a Bell?
Yeah. Bell.
Nah for sovereignty. You know, it honestly should be
a bell. Naw, because I think that it's
going to have the same problem as as Hill Rd. leaving, you
know, too much to do. But I say bell.
Yeah, this horse is in excellent form.
I think, you know, if this horse takes a step forward then it's a
winner by a lot and I think you know it.
You give the the leg up to sovereignty if you think this is
a 2 horse race between sovereignty and journalism.
Sniper. What'd you say, bud?
Bell, Naw. OK.
Why are we passing on him this year?
I I, I think the running style and the pace narrow just doesn't
favor this horse at all. I'm sure he'll run well but just
not win. Rodriguez is the three in here.
We go back to Barry for that. You and I happen to be at Wood
Memorial 100 this year. Together.
We saw this horse, Rob home on Long Island.
Bell. Yeah, or Bell?
Nah for Rodriguez in the spot. That's a bell.
Hell yeah. There you go.
Why is that? I, I think the pace scenario
sets up very, very well for this horse.
You know, people are going to think this horse is just A1
dimensional speedball. I think they can sit off the
pace and I think that's what the plan will be.
Not off the pace, but stalking, you know, kind of let crudo be
the target. But I I think this race sets up
very, very well for Rodriguez. How about for Josh Rodriguez?
What say you about Rodriguez? I mean, I think that gives it
away, but this is definitely a bell.
Yeah, you know, and mostly because I don't have a future
bet on him. And.
You know, I've had two future bets on Rodriguez at 107 to 1
and 12:50 that neither got to the gate.
But yeah, I, I'm, I'm everything that the sniper said I'm.
I'm all in here. All right, Chase Rodriguez, you
gonna make it 3 for 3 here. I, I mean, I, I say bell, yeah,
this horse can win because you're, you're looking at your,
your top pace competition is crudo.
Do you just let crudo be a, a hood ornament, just purely
decorational out on the front of this thing and, and let him just
really be the, the actual pacesetter?
Yeah, there's a, there's definitely a scenario where
Rodriguez is just unpressed and just walk.
You know, everyone watches. Rodriguez gets smaller as he
once runs away from the field. He's a bell, yeah, for me,
'cause I watched his dad and the Derby and the and the Breeders
Cup Classic do exactly what we're talking about on Saturday.
And so we go to Uncage, the four horse here, the son of Curlin
Ripoli, throwing this one in out of a 6th place by 10 lengths
finish. Josh Rodriguez in the
aforementioned Peter Pan. Tell us why you love this horse.
Belna, I will not tell you why I love this horse.
I I'm not on the show for that purpose.
All right, Chase, let's see you. Yeah, that's a, that's a bell.
Nah, that's a hard bell. Nah.
How about you, Barry? That's a hell bell.
Nah, there we. Go put all the additives on
there. I agree with the guys on that
one. Interesting new shooter here,
the son of Justify and Crudo out of the Bobby Flay barn.
How about that? He he mentioned him on this show
when we did the the Derby draft this year.
I said who you got in the stable that we need to be paying
attention to. He said I got this colt Crudo,
he's going to run on Freak this weekend and here we are after a
7 1/2 length victory there in the Sir Barton at Pimlico.
Barry. Big ol step up in class here,
but boy showed it at Pimlico. Yeah, Bell.
Nah, sorry, sorry. Unless crudo's like a pizza or
something, in which case, no, we need, we need that.
I, I was, I, I knew Bobby Flay was involved with that horse.
So I thought crudo was like a dish.
Does it play on crudite? I don't know.
I'm I'm really. Not raw fish.
Raw fish is sometimes called crudo.
So is that what it is? Here we go, all.
Right, let's get classy on this show.
What are you drinking, by the way, Josh?
It looks good. I have a bottle I picked up from
Louisville. I got a barrel strength Mcter's
bottle where they do like you get, you can bottle your own.
So went there with with my wife on our our 10 year anniversary
earlier this year. And so we each got a bottle of
of Nichter's to personalize and take home.
So I'm drinking a little bit of that.
I'm drinking some of the good stuff and honor of Chase's big
win today. So yeah.
Absolutely, Chase. Speaking of big wins, crudo
chance at a big win. All right, so the Bobby Flay
thing has actually got me tripping a little bit 'cause I
haven't. I'm having Creator flashbacks.
I made a ton on Creator. When did Bobby Flay buy into
crudo? I need to know.
Oh no, this is a oh, that's a great question.
I don't know the answer to that. I really honestly don't know the
answer to that 'cause I know James Victor has another piece
of this. If he's been in the whole time,
I'm out if if he bought but peace a little, you know, close
to the Belmont, maybe I'm not interested, but Belmont,
Belmont. OK, we'll go Belmont here.
How about for you, Josh? Belmont, this is a bell.
Yeah, this is more of a a bee type for me.
But, you know, we often talk about paces and, you know,
meltdowns and stuff like that. And people see two real fast
horses. Like this thing's going to melt.
And it's like, no, two horses don't cause a melt, right?
Two horses cause a duel, right? And usually one of them puts the
other one away and it's still got a shot, you know, in case
something dumb happens. This track just comes up
lightning fast and he breaks and you know, Johnny VS very good on
the front end. And maybe, maybe there's a
chance he he outbreaks Rodriguez, he gets to the front
and then it's just the two of them down the stretch and maybe,
maybe he finds a way. But I I think he's got a a
better shot than maybe most others do so.
I'm a bell knob, but I love that he's in here.
I I think this is the kind of horse we need in these kinds of
races, and I'm really glad that they entered him here in the
Belmont, even if I'm not as exactly sure he's got a great
spot. Baeza finished third in the
Kentucky Derby, went back to California, did some workouts,
and now he himself is in upstate New York.
I threw this horse in my trifecta at Derby because Flavi
and Pratt told me to, and I'm very, very glad that I did.
At the end of the day, I think he's a bell.
Yeah, on this spot, because I think he's a developing horse.
The only question I have about Mackenzie's is can they go the
distance? And then I already watched him
do it at Churchill Downs over 10 furlongs.
So for me, he's a bell, yeah, in this spot.
And frankly, might be the best value outside of those top 2 as
far as overall talent. What say you, Josh Rodriguez?
Belna I think that this is like the wise guy horse.
This is going to be the this is going to be the over bet horse.
I think a little bit, but you know, I mean like like if he
wins, I'm I'm not going to be I'm not going to be shocked
here, but I just kind of think that I mean I in early betting
he opened up as the favorite. You know, like come on, like
that's just that's just ridiculous.
But you know, I not for me, you know, if he wins, I'm not going
to be surprised. But I'll beat Belna on this one
all. Right, Barry?
Belna OK. And I'll.
I'll give you a little inkling. Why?
Because I think this horse would have to regress and still win,
and I don't think that's really a a positive thing in this spot.
I mean, unless you think this horse can go above is one O 3
buyer, last out buyer. I I just don't see it.
It's definitely could happen but the running style, everything
else you know this horse is still hasn't passed journalism
yet. Got beat by Rodriguez before.
Not saying he's a bad horse by any means, but I just think he
might be over bet like Josh was saying.
Quick pick here for you Chase on Byes.
I'll let you go first on journalism.
Let's say you Bell. Yeah, Bernal.
Baeza Bell Yeah, I, I, I think that this is the horses trending
up. It's the the horse of now we've
had the the other horses peak. I I think it's Baeza's turn.
OK, let's go to journalism. He's up next, of course, out of
the Preakness, wins second place in the Kentucky Derby after
winning the Santa Anita Derby, the San Felipe and the low self
fraturity in reverse order Chase.
What do you say of of his chances this weekend?
I say, I say bell. Naw, I think of all the
contenders this is the most most likely to fall out of the
exacta. OK.
All right. So journalism is a bell gnaw and
most likely to fall out. I like that.
Three races in five weeks. Josh, does that affect your
handicapping with him at all? No, this is a bell.
Yeah. This is the one horse that I, I
have any, if I have any faith in any of these horses that have
run multiple times on the last couple weeks, it's journalism
because he's backed it up every single time.
And, you know, like, yeah, he finished second in the Derby,
but I mean, that was still like, it was still one of the best
races that we've seen any of these horses run.
Even though it wasn't a losing effort.
He backed it up at Pimlico. So this is a bell.
Yeah, for me, Barry. Oh, this is a hell bell.
Yeah, I I think that he's already proven to be the best
horse in this crop. He's asserted dominance very,
you know, you can actually see it when he runs.
He asserts dominance over these other horses.
He knows he's better than them. You know, the only question mark
in this race is, is is he tired enough not to win?
He doesn't. Sure, he sure doesn't look like
it on the track in the mornings. But that, that would be my only
reservation. He he's the goods.
Yeah, I'mabelia on journalism. Seen him in person twice and
it's been plenty for me to know that that's an absolute gamer of
a horse. Heart of Honor will break from
the 8. Josh, this is the 2nd place
finisher in the UAE. Derby did some okay running at
the end of the Preakness but I think is a bit up against it.
A bell Nah for me. Josh, where did you land?
I love saffy, but not this Saffy, so this is a bell, Nah.
Got it. Yeah, that man bun chest hair
combination. The finest, of course, in horse
racing. Chase.
Where are you at on this one? Can I be like Bell intrigued or
Bell? It's complicated here if you
look at the third graphs. There's toggling.
It's OK, yeah. Yeah, if you look at the third
graphs going into the Preakness Heart, Heart of Honor was
actually one of the more competitive horses in this race.
Now you look at and the horse was fractious, didn't really dig
the the gating process of Pimlico off slow wide the entire
time. I have no idea what Heart of
Honor can do, but I've had something that's, you know, a
pretty reputed source that's telling me that this horse is
Faf fast AF. Very.
That's it. How do you feel a lot hard about
it? I want to say bell.
Yeah, but only under one condition.
Talk to me. If the the track is wet, OK.
This horse I like that really trained pretty well at Pimlico
when it was raining. Yep, it's really complicated.
That would be the only caveat to me saying yes to this horse.
If if the track ends up sloppy and then there's a possibility
it might I I think this horse can get in the number.
All right, everybody, it is time to tell people who you think is
going to win at the Belmont this weekend, Barry.
We'll start with you and then we'll let Josh go host a more
reputable show than this one. What?
What? Who you got won in the Belmont,
Barry? Rodriguez I I think this horse
hits the trip. You know, the the price will be
right. People were kind of cold on Bob
Baffert in general. And then this horse, you know,
popping 1/4 crack twice and not running in in the Derby and the
Preakness, but didn't really miss a beat training, which was
very interesting in this whole ordeal.
And I also one really key thing is I don't think Rodriguez was
ridden to win in in those prep races.
I think they were trying to set it up for Citizen Bowl and when
they started or when they did ride this horse to win, this
horse won I I think that makes a lot of the difference.
Plus the pace scenario sets up really, really well for him.
Yeah, we're going with Rodriguez.
How about Josh Rodriguez? Same thing.
And, and actually Barry brought up a very, very good point.
You know, I had been telling people that this horse reminded
me a little bit of Medina Spirit and I think Medina Spirit kind
of had the same thing. Medina Spirit like, but he, he
lucked out 'cause he had a bunch of scratches, right?
He had a couple of of bobs, you know #1 and #2 I think that was
the life is Goodyear if I. Remember right, life is good
guy. And I was actually in Vegas
getting ready to put, put down a future bet on, on Medina Spirit
at 50 to one at Circa. And they pulled all the odds
because one of the one of the Baffert horses actually
scratched and they never put them up when I was there again.
And so I I wasn't going to miss out this time.
And sure enough, he he ends up scratching.
But yeah, I, I disagree with you.
I, I agree with you. Like I feel like those two,
those two stakes preps, you know, he was ridden to kind of
stay in it, but not necessarily the win at Aqueduct.
They had to win and he went ahead and won.
He gets Mike Smith, which you know, Mike Smith is good at two
things, either getting the horse out of the gate and and trying
to go wire to wire, or he's he can only make one run.
He's got one run and that's it. You know, if you make Mike Smith
think too much, I don't I don't know, some weird stuff happens
sometimes, but I think there's one plan here with this horse.
Get him out of the gate, get him near the front and and go.
So I like Rodriguez. I'll have a little bit of of
crudo and and journalism as well in in horizontals, but Rodriguez
my topic. All right, Rodriguez, of course,
the best speed figures in all of those things since frosted in
2015 in the wood Memorial coming out this year.
Chase, you going to make a three for three I'm.
Going with the six by Aza by Aza is my Belmont play here.
I I think that this is the worst that could still make take a
step forward. I think that sovereignty could
regress and still win. I think journalism probably
regresses, probably doesn't win. I'm ice cold Baeza with a
sovereignty here in the exact though I do think that you maybe
should consider throwing Rodriguez underneath because
that might be the speed that holds that if you want a horse
like Baeza to come from off the pace, that's who they might be
getting up over late. So no, I just thought the Baeza
could could finally take that step forward.
And Pratt hopefully redeems himself for what was just like a
terrible Kentucky Derby weekend for for me as well, because I
was very well invested in him. So I I think we get a little bit
of a Pratt redemption and I think Baez runs a hole and win.
He also doesn't have to break from the 19 or whatever it was.
Yeah. And look, here's the three
reasons sovereignty is going to win the Belmont.
Number one, it's funniest, Like it's going to make the most
people angry. So that's number #2 you ever
fallen in love, Chase or Josh or Barry with just a nice ass?
Just falling in love with a nice ass.
You're walking behind someone in the mall and you're like that
person. That person must work out.
I saw Sovereignty's ass on the backside, Churchill Derby, Derby
week, and I went, that's my Derby horse.
And so I'm not jumping off for a 10 for a long race with that.
And the last thing is I talked to Junior Alvarado on Monday and
he is wildly arrogant about this horse and I love that.
So I'm going to go to sovereignty is my top pick here
in the Belmont Stakes. And so thank you to these three
guys. You can find Josh at cherry
drank on Twitter. I know he's got to get going to
do on the wrong lead and their podcast over there.
Belmont. Keep the conversation.

should as well, Barry and of course, Chase.
