Phone computer there we go I yes for very serious bookshelves of

horse racing and very spirit. This is so Kelson this girl on

the horse racing happy hour platform.

Thanks for hanging out with us on a Friday edition of the

program, which is usually when we shoot this thing that's right

around now. We always preview the full card

on Saturday in Southern California.

Of course, racing right now at Delmar very welcome everybody.

How are you? Doing good, How you doing today?

I'm good man. Do you like the?

I imagine this book right here is like I'm at the Blood Horse

offices. In case anyone's wondering, this

is probably a stallion registry from like 1887 or something.

Should I look up what this book is?

Hang on one second. Got to dust it off.

This is the thickest book I've ever grabbed in my life.

This is the 1980 Thoroughbred Broodmare Records.

Let's open to a random page here.

All right, welcome to Welcome to Blood Horse.

How about that? We are looking at Lady Grantor,

born in 1959. OK, we're still.

Active in what, 1980? Yeah.

Very present 1979 Heck. Really.

Oh, by Grantor out of a Hadrian mayor.

Hadrian, of course, born in 1965.

How about that? There you go and she ran for two

years, 17 starts, one win. So there you go.

There's your blood horse moment of the day here on.

All right. Where are you doing?

All right, man, What's the weather like there?

You would hate it here, by the way, it's like high 50s in the

mornings. You wouldn't.

Be Oh no, no, no bueno, No bueno What?

Are you going to do with Breeders' Cup?

Bro? I'm taking you out to San Diego

and everyone thinks, oh, Southern California it's 100°

all the time. Nah, Nah, sign you in the if

you're in the shade in the morning.

It's cold as bleep in Southern California, man, I'm telling

you. Well, if it's if it's warmer

than it was at Aqueduct when we went to the wood.

Memorial Oh for sure be. Fine.

Yeah, All right, there you go. You did you know what, to be

fair to you, you did survive. Yeah, you did survive.

Texture. I don't think he could pauld

that book. Yeah, you're right.

That's right. So I don't think I can That's

that's real life here on the on the the horse racing gap VR

platform SoCal Saturday hanging out with Barry Spears Debutante

this weekend, closing weekend at Del Mar.

Barry, do you have a take away from Del Mar?

This this meet a horse that impressed you anything like

that? I think that the fierceness, you

know, the fierceness show up in the in the Pacific classic

stands out as the probable, almost certainly the performance

of the meat. Yeah, that's fair.

But I actually was pretty impressed with Almond Joy.

OK, I I like, I like that horse. You know, I I like those kind of

state bred then goes in the open company type things and you

know, we get them sometimes in New York, but.

Right, that's I was just gonna say the chosen run.

That's a. Good, nice run, nice run in in

Southern California, those kinds of horses.

So, yeah, that's a good, that's a good one for for sure.

I gotta say this, I think the, the turf racing's been really

good in Southern California. Yeah, really, really good.

And that isn't always the case, right?

And that's obviously year to year kind of thing.

But this year it's been really, really good out there.

And so it's been, it's been nice to see that.

It's also been nice to watch the evolution of some some folks on

that that that side of things out in California as well.

Barry, between riders and different things.

You know, you and I are fans of Armando Ayusa, watching him get

slightly, you know, get better mounts.

Frankly, a guy like Antonio Frisu winning the riding title

at Santa Anita, He's really backed it up.

He's been really good at Del Mar Obviously, I think Juan's going

to win the title here in Juan Hernandez.

But, you know, I think Frisu has shown himself that that wasn't a

fluke. In other words, in the spring,

you know, over that longer beat at Santa Anita.

So kudos to him. He's really kept up that quality

as we move into the end of the Del Mar meet here, of course,

we'll head to low S for the next couple of weeks and then Barry

and I will be out there for the Breeders Cup.

So if you happen to run into US, I shouldn't say that.

Everybody knows Barry, so just say hi to Barry, but I'm the

other person. Me.

I'm the other guy, Yeah, the guy standing next to Barry.

That's that's usually my life when I go on these trips with

Barry Spears. I don't like it very much.

But you know what? To be fair, nobody believes.

That by the way, so that's. OK, I met 100 nice people at

Aqueduct because of at Aqueduct because of you.

So that that worked out really well.

So I appreciate it, those kinds of trips, but let's get it

going, man. If you are new to the show, we

are presented by Amwager and amwager.com.

Go check them out right now. They have a 100% deposit match

up to $150.00 with our friends at Amwager.

And if you want to follow up on this, you can find me at the

Sporting Tribune where I'll have a write up about the Grade 1

debutante that we will get into later in our card.

I'm going to take your name off of here, Barry, because I need

to be able to see Amwager. There we go, All right, the

people who pay the bills get their names on the screen.

All right, so there you go. We'll start with the race one

here at Del Mar on Saturday. If you are new to the show, we

go through the entire card wherever they are racing in

Southern California. We'll start on the turf in race

one. Made special weight $80,000

here. Also an $80,000 purse.

This is for Phillies and Mares 3 and up.

Barry, we've got a an 11th time starter in here as the favorite,

which I know for you and me means let's go somewhere else.

Oh, absolutely. Yeah, we're, we're definitely

going elsewhere. In fact, I don't have that

particular horse in my top three at.

All. We don't, we don't want that,

especially with that horse being pinned down on the rail.

It just is bad news all the way around.

And I believe the horse really doesn't like to get out of the

gate either. So yeah, no bueno.

But I went to #5 Heads in beds. Yep, the second time starter

stretching out makes a lot of sense for Phil D'amato here.

There's no world beaters, but I do know or believe that heads in

beds will get the jump on the seven Mizzen.

The the Mizzen Queen who should be launching from way back and

and just that positioning should be enough for heads in beds to

win. The the line on the I have to go

back and watch this one, Barry for the visit Queen last out the

the line is ranked early and that was her first start in

North America. So I think we'll get a better

effort here for this trainee of Dan Blacker, who second off of

this sort of layoff has won four of his last 16 races.

So I landed 75 here, you landed 57.

Obviously not disagreeing in some kind of serious way in race

one here, but I agree about heads and beds.

This is one that just makes sense.

Second off the layoff here, third start ever.

Toyota Freeze. Who keeps them out?

For Phil, the motto, him stretching out sprints around

15%. These are all numbers that

totally make sense for heads and beds.

We're different on the third member of our handicapping trio

here in race 1, Berry, you have icons only drain Van Dyke riding

for Carla Gaines. We're seeing more and more good

runners from Carla's. Me too.

Yeah, she's got a nice barn of runners and this one I think is

is flying under the radar a little bit.

You'll see that last race or actually the last two races, the

June 7th race on this horse was way out wide.

You know, got into a a really troubled trip, came back off

that and ran pretty good at 50 to one, hits blinkers on.

And I think there's still some improvement in there and I think

this horse can hit the board at a big price.

Yeah, the blinkers on angle for her is a 15% angle as well.

So not a not a small change for her for sure.

If she's going to throw those blinkers on, I'm in a different

direction with my third member. Go with the second time starter

in Lanilla on the outside. The 9 horse here, Ken Desormo,

who by the way, Speaking of Almond Joy was a board for that

ride has been riding really well.

Very limited sample size for him, but only 16 mounts.

But he's hit the board ten of those right.

So he's riding really, really well right now.

Vladimir Sarin sends this one to the gate and this is he's only

one for 50. Excuse me, one for 13.

This this meet is Sarin 5 times hitting the board in those

thirteen though. And this is the second time

starter Barry that if you remember this race was out there

and just kind of like looking around and you can imagine,

frankly, you're like second grader going to like field day

or something. And you know, it's like go run

really hard. They're like looking at trees

and the bird flies by and they're doing that stuff.

Once in a while, horses do that too.

And I think that this one, this daughter of English Channel was

sort of doing that, but then she realized she was in a race and

got up for 2nd and I know it was by 4 lengths, but did start

doing her better running later in the race.

I like her a lot in this spot here.

Like I said, out of the Sarin barn was in that Leonard Powell

barn. They thought enough of her to go

ahead and claim her for 50 and they're going to try her in this

spot. I think it makes a lot of sense,

frankly. So Barry landed 75 and 9 in the

first race. I landed 57 and a three in the

first. This is Socal.

Saturday's were presented by Amwager and amwager.com.

Barry Spears, Louis Ribow hanging out with you.

Odd races, Barry goes first. Even races I go first.

This is a 12/5 claimer. So of course, I get the 1st

super difficult race here. 6 1/2 of the dirt, $32,000 in the pool

here, though. Really nice pool.

Frankly, purse, I should say, for these runners.

You and I landed on the same long shot here.

I was a little surprised to see Miracle Demaro gets the mount

here on Gypsy Tears. You know anything about Gypsy

Tears? I really don't know anything

about Gypsy Tears. I'm not gonna lie.

None, None, none, none, none at all.

I. Think that's part of living in

Kentucky. I just don't deal with gypsy

tears. Anyway, so this is 6 year old

son intact by the way. Cal Bread of gem heist and so

this is an interesting one to me, Barry, because 2 back wins

at Del Mar at a similar distance at the 16 level.

They tried the 20 level last time and I thought the horse ran

OK, right? He's fine, but faded to 6th and

frankly at at about the 8th pole just kind of didn't want to do

it anymore. I think the horse is going to

get a better trip here, going to have more of an opportunity out

of that Breaker Hoff barn and Miracle Demuro.

Frankly, I was critical of him earlier in the meet as how he

was riding, what the results were.

He's been considerably better the last couple of weeks,

frankly, and Simply put on dirt as well.

It's been something that he's gotten considerably better on.

So you and I both landing on Gypsy Tears.

Anything I left out about that horse that you would add?

I like the the actually the last race August 17th was kind of

wide pretty much the whole way and Manchild kind of scooted

away without any pressure and and won that race 6 to 5 for

Manchild in this spot is kind of ridiculous considering the the

last race and there's quite a bit more pressure, especially

coming from possibly getter number or my man bag.

So I I don't think Manchild's going to have the same sort of

trip. Race 2, I'm 534, you're 564.

I'll talk about the three here in Morello, what you know about

Rage Against the Machine. Everything great band.

Tom Morello of course, but no Classic Empire.

This is a six year old gelded son of a classic Empire.

Ran in one of those $8000 kind of claimers.

Did Morello last out but stepped into that company very well.

And this is 1. I think that if Seraphine

Carmona can keep a little bit closer to the pace could be part

of it at the end. That race was very fast,

2144561-O2 over the 5 1/2. That is very, very fast.

Finish a second in that one. If that horse can improve just a

little bit off of that effort, I think it's going to be in a

really, really good spot here. And this is what Lorenzo

Capazano does well. Claimers, this kind of Sprint

being on the dirt, etcetera. I like that four to one price.

I wish it were a little longer, of course, Barry, but I landed

you all right there, buddy. What's going on?

What are you thinking? What's going on?

None hanging in there, man. OK.

All right, so I landed. I landed.

In my eye. OK, that's all it is.

OK, Very good. I thought you were just laughing

at my pics. 5, three and four here.

You win 5-9 and four. Why don't you tell every You

didn't go 5-9 and four. What am I saying?

There's No 9. You win 5-6 and four.

Excuse me? You go ahead and tell everybody

about the six horse in here, my man bags.

I just think my man bags is just a tad bit faster than man child.

I know they were in the race last time together.

Mancha my man bags didn't really get out of the gate.

Probably need that race hadn't been out since December.

I I think the pressure is really going to come on Manchild this

race and sets up for Gypsy tears and I think my man bags can just

outlast Manchild for 2nd. There you go.

All right, that was a race 2 on the card there at Del Mar on

Saturday. This is Socal Saturdays with

Amwager in the horse Racing Happy Hour Network.

Race 3 is an A maiden special way.

Excuse me, we're running for $80,000 a mile on the turf here.

This is for two year old maidens.

So get back into the babies here and we see a horse drop into

this race, Barry and I'll go ahead and just start with him

here in race 3 in Saint Petersburg.

The two horse here out of the Bafford barn.

This is one that we saw frankly early stages of seeing if this

was going to be a Breeders' Cup type horse on the dirt.

Tried this one in the best pal as a maiden last time out.

For sure drops back into this company in maiden special

company Barry, but also on the turf.

Were you surprised to see this one here?

Obviously not, because you have this one second in your

handicap. Not willingly, to be honest with

you, I think this is kind of we don't know what to do move place

this source here. It's it's kind of a a soft spot

where there's really not much as far as pedigrees anything else.

This horse has already run a couple of times stretching out

sort of a safe place to do this. And the horse just by default

might be better than most of these horses.

And that's really why I put this horse second because you know,

the Bavar of horses, if anything, are going to be fast

and forwardly placed. If that trend is what I think it

is, this horse will probably be around it at the end just

because it's these are a bunch of maidens.

They don't really know how to run first time starters on the

turf. Going long aren't really.

A. Real high percentage play.

So it makes sense that, well, at least to me, that this Baffert

horse might hang around for a piece of this.

I'm going with the ultimate long shot here and that is the Tim

Yak team train 47 and everyone might be thinking well, the

eight horse here, Louis, he's only 8 to one.

That's true. Tim Yak team know over 27 with

his last second time starter. That's that's a long shot play

people. We're breaking it right here.

Hector Barrios on the turf. Let's go this on a practical

joke. I think has all the good second

time starter. They started him in that maiden

$150,000 level. This is no drop or move up, I

should say into maiden special kind of company, but most of his

term, excuse me, most of his percentages make sense here.

Do Tim Yak teens outside of that second start.

He's good off this kind of layoff at 14% goes from sprints

around at 11 percent. Those numbers are totally fine

and you and I have become, and by the way, I didn't mention

what did we learn in this meeting?

Hector Barrios on the grass out West is a problem, man.

He's really good. And so that's part of this

equation as well. So if you were looking for

something there, a little bit of value, I'm going to lean on him

in this one. 4078 horse on top. I think we're going to get more

than 8:00 to 1:00 on that horse. I think there's a chance we get

like 10 or 12 to one on that one.

Barry, you and I both like the 10 and 11 in this spot.

Here's some more breaks from the 10 for Ricardo Gonzalez.

Yeah, this Michael McCarthy horse seems to be kind of

intended to run here. I would say even despite Kimura

going to the 11, I think the 10 is the horse to beat as far as

these two runners coming from the same barn.

The 10 comes out of a better race, first of all, I think, and

secondly, the stretch out makes a lot of sense in the training

regiment. This horse came out of that race

on July 26th and didn't miss a beat.

Came back August 3rd with a work, August 9th with a work,

August 16th with a work, August 23rd with a work, August 30th

with a work. This were they want this horse

to stretch out it. It just seems logical what

they're doing, how they're approaching this race, coming

into it, getting Ricky Gonzalez going, long blinkers on the

little makeover package. I I think the intent is there in

a race where there's not much to go off of and eight to one seems

fair enough. Price.

Let's do it. Yeah, I agree with you on all of

those points. The works are impossible to

overlook. This horse is flying right now.

And frankly, we talk about it a lot on this show.

Mike McCarthy first time out, go ahead and hard pass, right?

But second time he seems to be building for these kinds of

moments. Barry, exactly what you just

said. There seems to be a blueprint in

place for these horses leading into this kind of spot.

It's a son of Rushy. Excuse me?

So a cheap, really cheap breeding job here.

So frankly, if this horse can even get a piece, he'll pay for

that $4000 breeding price. Their stark contrast will break

from the 11. Barry, another one in a similar

spot, right? Michael McCarthy, again, all the

of the percentages, like you said, Kazushi does get the mount

here. But frankly, if you're looking

at the raw numbers, Ricardo Gonzales is a better play with

those mounts from Michael McCarthy than is Kazushi Kimura.

And so maybe that's just a better spot there.

I landed 8/10/11. I think the 12 off the AE list

is very interesting here as well.

Barry now comes out of a state race and that can be a little

bit, but it was 136 for the mile May debut going a mile right and

then keeps that distance here works have been very, very good.

So Brian Corners trained trainee of Oracle of Paradise draws in

here. Bury the 12th.

That is when I absolutely would throw in you.

Probably that that one. Probably.

Dry, I would hope so, Yep. And then you also have the two

we already talked about Xavier in your handicapping there as

well. But 1011 are on top for we both

have the 10 and 11 in our hand together.

I have the 8 on top. Barry has the two in the second

spot. I'm going to run away from this

race because I can't stop chewing on my own tongue

apparently. So there you go.

Our race 4 is a maiden special way for Phillies.

This is a 5 1/2 fur longer on the dirt.

Another one for 2 year olds here Barry.

I thought this was a fun race as well.

Mix of horses with some experience on the track and

certainly those that are trying running for the first time.

I went 975 here, Barry. I'm a little different here.

I'm just going to trust John Sadler with the second timer in

Rivera. Antonio Frisu keeps them out

here. This one was second by a lot

last time but did start well and my hope is we'll just build that

stamina up a little bit through the works.

The work 2 back on August 9th, I thought spoke to this horse's

ability to be as fast as anyone in this field, if not faster.

And I think we're going to get every bit of three to one in

here. There's a Baffert 2 year old in

here that looks really promising.

I do think as well that the Hector Barrios ridden wild like

the West is going to get some money for Richard Baltus,

especially with that bullet work and his strike rate with first

timers as well. So I'm going to land 9-7 and

five in here, Barry in this maiden special and hope that

Rivera, who put up a 76 Byron debut, could turn around.

And I think an improvement on that gets you that gets it done

here. But I know that you are a little

more boring than I am. Oh, I am, huh?

Just kidding, but Richard Baltis, I'm just joking.

Actually, you're not at all. Richard Baltis 6 to 1 here.

I agree with you, by the way. Wild like the West.

An interesting first timer. Yeah, Now we've been doing this

for what the better part of a year and you know how I like the

workout patterns on on these first timers and the longest,

fastest gate work wins these sort of races and wild like the

West has it. August 28th, 5 furlongs 59 and

one handling from the gate, a bullet, one out of 21 that day.

There's nobody in here that has a workout like that, right?

So I think they may turn this horse loose.

Berrios will not mess around and just go to the league,

especially with the seven involved.

You know, you just want to sort of snatch that horse's heart

right out of him. Because the Baffert horses, they

get brave when they get out in front and there's nobody around.

They get brave and they run off. And if Barrios is smart and

Baltus and the connections get in front of sounds lucky and you

might be able to win this race you.

Got a shot if you can do that exactly right.

Barry landed 517 in race, 4I landed 975.

So we have the seven and five in common, Barry, including the one

here on the inside in Mimi's memory.

Another first timer for George Papa Pajama.

Yeah, a lot of quick works on this horse, some nice longer

ones, so the source may be able to settle behind horses.

We'll be able to see that. Nice work on August 31st, 46 and

three. Handling from the gate in almost

Bullet 2 out of 91 that day is pretty impressive.

The only reason I didn't put this horse on top is the post

position. OK, on the rail will be a

Mimi's. Oh, that's the other thing

ullapool the damn pretty nice horse.

Very fast. Oh Ullapool talk, why not?

There you go. All right.

Yeah, there you go. Yeah Ullapool.

Speaking of ullapool AM Wager, am wager.com.

They have nothing to do with each other.

I'm going to check them out right now. 100% deposit match up

to $150.00 with our friends at AM Wager.

Get in with them right now. They always hang out with us

every Friday on SoCal Saturdays. Barry Spears, Louis Rebeaux

hanging out with you. Maiden 62, Five greets us to

close the early Pick 5 here. Race 5 of course at Delmar on

Saturday. Today this is So Cal Saturday

we're going a mile on the turf course, $44,000 up for grabs.

Barry. Odd number race means you go

first because you're so odd you just badmouth the the rail.

So let's pick a horse from the rail and Alerimo.

Of course, easy peasy. This game's easy.

You just. Do the opposite.

It's totally different, Lily. It's different, yeah.

Right. You say something and then you

do the opposite the next race. There you go.

But yeah, Alerimo, really, really interesting horse.

You can see this horse only has four races.

The first race in the US was really interesting to me because

this horse was caught out wide. This was last September,

September 6th to be exact, a year ago, basically was favored

that day, right? Ran a really good race but was

just totally wide and and really didn't have a shot at winning

it. And then they turned around and

come back. Got beat by a pretty decent

horse and sea runner. Laid off until June of this

year. Caught out wide again.

You'll see the comment in the racing forum says brushed 3

deep, 3/8 pull and the five sixteens.

So it's caught out wide now. Gets Lasix and the rail, and I

think the rail will get this horse into position.

Ricky Gonzalez is not going to sit there and let everybody just

go in front and then get shuffled back to last.

The source is going to get position and I think that might

make all the difference in this horse winning and losing.

He's going to do it and he's going to win.

So we'll take 8 to 1 all day. Barry is 1/3 and 8:00 here in

this maiden 625I landed on the 9:00 on the outside.

I agree on the three and the 8, by the way, I went 9-8 and three

in this one. I'm going to take Inner Fury

largely connections based here, Barry, I'm not going to lie,

this is a phrase in d'amato and whatever.

This horse I thought looked OK last time but is essentially

second off. The layoff here was much better

at Santa Anita than the horse was last time out.

And so I'm just hoping the last one essentially was a draw a

line through it. We get more of what we saw on

the 30th of May at Santa Anita in a maiden 50.

This one's in for 50 carrying the same sort of, you know, the

same sort of weight and all of that.

The works have been slow, but that's on the dirt and that's

not what this horse is going to do.

It's a purely, purely bred 4 turf kind of horsell.

I went 9-8 and three. Barry.

I'll talk about Storm Lady a little bit and then you can add

Carla Gaines again in here. This one was third last time.

We're second off the layoff or second in this cycle at least.

It was right there with Rehearsal, who will also be in

this spot. But if I get Hector Barrios at a

longer price than give me Hector Barrios and so I'll take Storm

Lady second here. What do you like about Storm?

I like. Horses that drop down in class

while stretching out second time.

So this horse was a nice little layoff from June 8th to August

17th. Came back at this same level,

ran a much improved race than what she was running in maiden

special weights, and I think having the race under her belt

at this level with her friends that this is definitely the spot

where she should be. She's going to run a much

improved race this time, you know, give or take a break here

or there. She could win it.

I I'm just worried about her getting bad down a little.

That is the 8IN Storm Lady. We also like the three here in

Rehearsal. I think this one's a little bit

more obvious. Rehearsal and Storm Lady I just

mentioned came out of the same race behind Willa T on the 17th

of August here at Del Mar I. This is one that ran in the 50

level. Last time it looked like that

that was the proper level. Very frankly, just, I mean,

straight up, this is this is the kind of class that this horse

belongs in. Gets to carry 120 again, the

lighter weight here as well. And Phil d'amato and Umberto

riskily winning 21% of their races together at Del Mar.

Anything to add to that one? Yeah, same sort of thing as the

eight horse, just second time at this sort of level should run

better. Got has a better post position

than last time. Was stuck on the rail and and

kind of got out finished. Very logical in this spot.

But I I like Aloramo quite a bit here to be honest.

With you. OK, there you go.

Barry's longer but more confident shot of the day will

be the one in race 5 again. Race 5983 for me.

One, three and eight for Barry. We roll along on SoCal.

Saturday's were presented by by Amwager.

The first of two greatest stakes on the card is race 6 and this

is the Debutante. So this is the $300,000 grade

one race for Phillies, two years old, of course, going 7 furlongs

on the dirt. We get a couple of Baffert

monsters in here in Explorer and Hamika, and it is time for the

graphic that everyone hates but that we have to get out at least

one time a show. Barry's leaning on Baffert.

Go ahead. Yeah, you're disappointed, but

you know it's the right thing to do.

I get. It I know I I it pains me like I

get this feeling in my stomach. I just.

Someone should make a mash up of these moments and send it to Bob

so he can like have a couple whiskeys on a Friday night when

he needs to just chill out and laugh and just watch some

replays of guys like Barry going, you know what?

I didn't want to bat Batford, but he's got the best horse, you

know what I mean? Like.

Yeah, because he knows that if I'm doing that, he's going to

win. Most likely you have in your

handicapping Explorer ahead of Himika.

Why? Because Explorer Dora the

Explorer is faster, just straight up faster than Himika

and we'll show it on. Saturday they worked on the same

day recently and Himika had the faster work.

Does that change your mind at all?

Not at all. OK, why not one iota?

Because this horse is just faster out of the gate and Juan

is going to get this horse on the engine shortest path around

the track, on the inside. And I don't think it's going to

be close, to be honest with you. I think maybe the best gate work

by time that we have seen at Del Mar during this meeting is her

run on August 8th. So before the stakes race, she

did a six furlong work from the gate in 111.

That's illegal, dude. I mean it's.

Super fast. That's like an old school, like

90s work. You know, remember when the, the

track out at Hollywood Park was so glib?

Everybody was running like 40 fives and 40 sixes?

Like everybody. Even the, the, you know, the

$10,000 claimers were doing it. It's crazy.

Don't want to get in this, mind you.

Don't want to Inside the mind of Spears.

I I agree with you. I am 1/2 as well.

If you were looking for a horse to fill out that third spot.

You went to Lowali. Why did you go to or?

No, you didn't. I did.

What am I saying? You went to you went to Grandma

Mary. This grandma theme, it's a

little too much. Barry, what do you like about

Grandma Mary? I thought Grandma Mary ran

really good on debut and just got beat by a horse in Bourbon

and Ginger that more or less just got the jump on her.

And I think this this race having more horses and well not

more horses but more speed up front is going to help Grandma

Mary finish strong and and beat a horse like Bourbon and Ginger

who only has one way, at least so far.

And I don't think that horse is even close to being as fast as

Explorers. Explorer finished her five

furlongs on debut in 57 flat. OK, I have Lowali third of my

handicapping. She finished her full 5 furlong

race, which she won in a drive to catch up by a nose in a full

1.2 seconds slower. OK, And this is what Barry's

talking about with how fast Explorer should be in this race

on Saturday. But Low Wally I think is

interesting Barry, because this was one that sat mid pack and

then did her best running late. If this is a crazy pace up front

that a number of horses can't keep up with, I assume Explorer

will. I think Low Wally's actually a

threat at 12:50 eight to one that kind of number to run 2nd.

And so yeah, exactly here. And that might be where you make

your best payday on this kind of race is explorer on top.

Pick a non other backward that's your second horse and try to get

some money in the exact. I think Lwali might be that

horse for me. Maybe, maybe just a $10 play,

just straight up cold exacto 110 that.

Kind of, yeah. I mean, I can't tell you how

many times, especially out West, where you have a a race that's

really set up for the favorite and the long shot has the

opposite running style like your six does and and Grandma Mary.

That was that's really why I like that horse to kind of pick

up the pieces, but they they tend to be overlays.

But a lot of this is going to depend on how much they bet

Explorer, because if explorers 8 to 5, that would mean the

Wally's probably about 15 to 1, and that's a great exacta

straight. Yes, Yeah.

No, that's. Exactly.

But if Explorers one to two and the Wally still that same 15 to

1 or even up to 20 to one, that's going to totally depress

the prices on those exacts. Barry and I both 1/2 on top.

Here I go 126. He goes 124 in the debutante out

there at Delmar on Saturday, Race 7, another stakes race, but

we go to the listed side of things, back on the turf and the

Juvenile Phillies turf here, the Delmar Juvenile Phillies turf,

$100,000 on the line, 2 year old Phillies.

Of course, in this one, Barry, we go to Race 7, which means you

get to go first. I think La Ville Lumiere on the

inside is the favorite at 7:00 to 2:00 if I remember correctly.

Yes, it is. Yes, she is.

Of course, coming out of the McCarthy barn broke her maiden

in May at 5 furlongs. I thought a very interesting

favorite as far as the morning line maker was concerned.

Here, Barry, neither you nor I have that horse on top.

We do have it in our handicapping, but you landed on

a different one toward the outside in the 11 horse.

Yours sincerely, boy. If Ricky, if Ricky Gonzalez has

a day, dude, you're going to have a day.

I'll tell you what. It's not like he hasn't I.

I'd say he can't. I didn't say that.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. How about that?

Yeah. Whoa, bad.

My bad, my bad. My fault.

My fault, my fault there's. Something going on with you?

I like this. All right, there's.

Something going on? Yeah.

If you get a chance, go to the archives of Del Mar replays and

look at the fourth race on August 16th and you'll see the

11. Yours sincerely.

Just inhale a field of maidens, including the 9 improbable you,

who I do like quite a bit in this spot, but there wasn't an

exceptionally fast pace or anything like that, and this

horse just turn on the afterburners and flew by

everybody. I don't see why that can't

happen again in this field. So we're going with yours

sincerely on top. Sincerely on top again, we'll

break from the 11. You and I have the 1:00 and 9:00

common in our handicapping. I'm going back to a horse that

made me look smart in an opener on the 2nd of August, and that

was South Bay for Tim Yaktine. Second timer here and we're

seeing the Sprint to route thing here as well.

This is a very common thing to be happening at this time of the

year, Barry, but he's been working this horse at 5 furlong,

certainly on the dirt there at Del Mar.

So not looking for any kind of speed, but this was 1 Berry that

was willing to be near the front and then pull away at the end.

My hope is with Hector Barrios getting them out here that we'll

get something pretty similar. Are there going to be a lot of

horses because of their youth and inexperience in this race,

Beer, they're going to try to get to the to the front right

away. This was a horse that was OK

halfway through the race being in second place and that was on

debut. So my hope is with a little bit

of experience that South Bay, this daughter of Omaha Beach

will be able to sort of just hang out and make her move when

it's time to make that move. And so I'll go ahead.

I'll lean on Tim Yaktin again here.

The five horse in South Bay on top for me.

I went one and 9 after that. You have the 9 horse second in

your handicapping in improbable you.

We both like the 12 to one shot here for Jonathan Thomas.

Yeah, this horse ran a really like honestly a winning race in

the one that yours sincerely won, but just got beat by a

horse that was better on the day and and I think just better in

general. I mean, yours sincerely came out

of that race and and put up a bullet.

I know it's one out of 12, but it was 48 and one with the dogs

up on the Delmar turf. This horse is just in razor

sharp form and and it's a shame because improbable you is

probably just as good, but just needs a little bit more time and

and maybe this sort of situation will help with the big field and

all. But honestly I think the exact

is going to run just like they did in their maiden with yours

sincerely and probably you second. 1191 in the the juvenile

turf, excuse me, Juvenile Phillies turf here for Barry

Spears. He's 1191.

I AM 51 and 9 in this spot as well.

I guess I should talk about other one via Lumiere.

I want to be really clear. There's another one that I'm

just trusting Michael McCarthy on.

This is a horse that break. It broke its maiden first time

trying turf at Santa Anita in May.

A lot of time off. I don't love that.

But this is 1 Barry, like other horses that we've mentioned,

great break from the gate on August 2nd, also showing that

early speed. But since then has worked to

work twice on the turf as well. Just getting her feet under that

little kind of a freshening on August 30th should be ready to

go in this one as well. We move on to race 8.

It is an optional claimer going a mile on the dirt at Del Mar

$81,000 on the line 3 and up in this one here Barry.

Even number race means even keel.

Louis gets to go first on the five horse that you have second

in your handicapping is on top for me in this one.

And that is Speedy Wilson, our guy Armando Ayuso.

So who just won the real the real good deal And that is a

black type down there at Del Mar over 7 furlongs.

The splits all make sense, the speed all make sense.

And this is one that sat kind of mid pack and got his trip and

made his move at the end over the seven.

He'll have to go longer than he's ever gone here.

Barry going a mile, but I think he'll stretch out just fine.

This is a his grand sire is grazing right.

We get minister's Wildcat on the damn side.

So even though this is a cowbred, I think that he's going

to be able to get it done in this company.

Slow improvement prove on the speed figures.

I slow incremental on the speed figures.

Slow is a bad word to use here. And he gets Lasix for the first

time. I really like that a lot,

frankly, for field of model as a 24% angle.

So I'll put the five on top here.

I know you don't totally disagree because you have that

horse second in your handicapping, but you did land

on the three in here in Delmar, Jerry.

Yes. I'm here on this one.

I'm surprised, but go ahead. You are, yeah.

I mean. You don't always do this where

there's, you know, the 20 point jump in a buyer figure and then

you run with that horse the race after.

You usually don't do that. I'm a little surprised to see.

This. No, I don't.

And and you're right, that's not why I like this horse in that

spot, actually, is that not that last race?

It's the ones before that. Largely agree, Yes.

Because of the fact that this horse might get loose on the

lead, I, I I think this horse might actually be lone speed

and, and I think that that figure was way overinflated.

It probably should be around what this horse did on June 6th,

probably about 85, and that puts this horse right where they need

to be in order to win this race. The pace dynamics are in this

horse's favor once again, so they could pair up with a 90

here of some sort. And when this race going away,

which I think it's quite possible because there's not

much speed. I mean, mining district is

probably better going longer, but I don't think that horse

really has the speed to contend with Jerry. 358 for Barry here,

including Delmar, Jerry in the three.

Keep going. Yeah, I was going to say the the

the other horse that might show some speed is Lyle's song, but

they don't really want the lead. They went wire to wire to break

the Maiden, but it looks like they want to target and

especially putting the blinkers on, they don't, they don't want

to be out there freewheeling. So I think that puts Delmar

Jerry on the lead by himself, freewheeling it once again.

I went 5-2 and one here. So I have Lyle Song second and I

think you're right, but I do think there's going to be Del

Margery out front coming out of a $40,000 claimer that he has a

target on. And so hopefully in my kidney

capping, it's Lyle song that overtakes him in the stretch.

Wayne, the brain though is coming into this one and I

thought looked really good at six furlongs last time for Mark

Glatt. We're going to stretch out here

and that's and I just hit my sounder and I did not mean to do

that. I apologize, Barry, if I just do

your He's not. That was not what?

I was going good, we're good. And not in my home studio.

Still adjusting here, but I thought really good.

Second off the layoff here, that is a 35% angle from our clap 35,

which is a remarkable number. I couldn't quite get over that.

Thought the works were not good. And then all of a sudden they

were. And so the last work I thought

was very acceptable. I think this is 1 between Mark,

Glenn, Kazushi, Camaro, they picked their spots really well.

They're winning at 23% of Del Mar, 23% overall.

And so I just, I think the two of them together, I'll go 5, two

and one in this spot. It just makes too much sense to

me. You are three, five and eight.

Only horse we haven't mentioned there is Clouseau Uberta Rispoli

for George Papa Pedroma. Yeah, it seems like kind of the

best of the rest. A horse that can just pass

horses late ran pretty good back in the Pleasanton days back last

year, last November, September ish.

And as far as what this horse's is, level of competition stacks

up pretty favorably and should be the best of the rest here.

2nd grade at stakes on the card. We'll start the late pick three.

We encourage you to go check out Amwager for all of your wagering

there in California, amwager.com, they have a 100%

deposit match right now up to $150.00.

Go play that late pick three with our friends at Amwager.

The John C maybe is the Grade 2. It is a quarter $1,000,000.

It is for Phillies and Mares 3 and up on the turf course.

They're going a mile and 1 eighth out of the chute in the

middle of the course. There.

We see local specialist Maduro, who comes into this one as the

five to two favorite. Some other ones in here Give me

another has yet to ship out to the West Coast but ran in very,

very well in South Africa before moving to the US and has yet to

win since moving to the US. Barry, this is an odd numbered

race. So we will let you go first.

You and I both landed on Maduro here.

That makes sense. Are you telling me that I'm odd

by saying that or? That's why I set this up, yeah.

Oh, OK, All right. I gotcha.

I gotcha. Yeah, Maduro.

And why do you marry? Is what it is, you know.

You love they're gonna have their hands full to try to beat

Maduro in this spot. Really, really nice.

She is in good form off the layoff.

I love that last race in the whole tinnitus.

She's smoking late and I, I think she's just going to

replicate that five to two seems a little ambitious.

I, I, I really think she's probably going to go off 3 to

5:00-ish. I agree with you that horse of

course Maduro is the four horse you and IA little different in

our handicapping afterward. Are you went to the two horse.

Why I have third in public assembly.

Another connection here, but coming out of that yellow ribbon

handicap, that might be pretty predictive for this race.

Yeah, You know, that yellow ribbon was I think later on

we're going to see that that was sort of a live race.

This horse didn't get the greatest of trips.

I I think they were a little over their heads in this in that

race, especially coming off that long of a layoff since May

probably needed the race ran really good and I think should

improve into this race, especially going a little bit

longer. Yeah, I think she's an

interesting one in here for sure.

You landed 426. I went 4-9 and two, so I'll talk

about the 9:00 here in Hang the Moon.

Only thing I don't like is the total outside position.

But frankly, Barry, because we're breaking from the shoot, I

think this one will be just fine.

We've watched this horse run in longer races than this in a lot

of spots, so it's going to have to be a little bit closer to the

front than has been in the past. But I think in a mile and an

eighth, this all makes a lot of sense.

Last time was in that yellow ribbon, like I mentioned, that

was the first race since December, so a lot like Maduro,

who had taken a bunch of time off since December, came back in

that Ocinitas. I'm looking at this one

similarly in the yellow ribbon last year in that Frankel at San

Anita Mile and an eighth run 6, but only by a length and a

quarter before that did win the rodeo driving a mile and 1/4 and

frankly won this race last year. Why can't we go back and do that

again? Second off the layoff here, this

five year old daughter of Uncle Moe, I think she's super live

here. So go 492 for me.

You went 4-2 and six. What do you think about Kentucky

Gal? Yeah, I don't think there's a

lot of speed in here and and that's really why I'm I'm kind

of really. Hanging.

Really fading a horse like hang the moon because I think that

horse might need a set up, but the 6th getting Edwin spells to

me like they want to go to the front and I think that's

probably a good place to be to hang around and get a piece of

this. This horse is really

interesting, especially underneath at a big price.

I think we'll get all of the price that we want on this

horse. I don't think the blinkers on as

an accident either. That's an angle.

It's very effective for Phil D'amato.

And I think with her, the idea is simply to be closer, right?

Just keep, you could plot along as much as you want, but if

you're far back in a mile race, you're going to be in a lot of

trouble. So I do think the blinkers are

in attempt to have her closer earlier in the race.

Again, in the Grade 2, maybe. I go 49 and 2.

Barry goes 4/2 and six. If you were singling in the late

part of the card, is it Maduro? Yes, absolutely.

I agree with you, OK. All right, we move on to race 10

and the the late double. By the way, I wanted to mention

before we move to or I just got a, a media e-mail from Churchill

Downs. They are adopting Del Mar and

San Anita's $3 late pick three. Nice.

That's a good trend, I. Like, I like it a lot frankly,

and same take outs and all those things, but wanted to give kudos

to Southern California for coming up with that wager.

First, of course, the race 10 is a state bread race.

Here. We're going for 81,000 miles.

I have $81,000 miles. Do not enter your horse in an

81,000 mile race, $81,000 for Cal breads here.

We're going 6 1/2 on the dirt. It is an even race, which means

Louis gets to talk first. Even though none of you want me

to. I'm going to take the horse on

the rail in brunch and crunch What you know about brunch,

Barry? You bar you brunch guy.

No, I'm not a brunch guy. I get up way too early for that.

Like up at the crack of dawn, if not before that, if I even sleep

at all. So you know.

I can text you so you don't want that times.

Yeah. Brian and Mida Spears is no good

books and the bookie being recommended by Jamie Foxx.

Do you want to be a bookie, Barry?

No. Or am I also the bookie?

Is that how this works? Am I books and the bookie?

Yeah, you're both OK. Got it.

We'll go with that. I don't know if that worked out

well for me at all, but Brunch and Crutch will break from the

inside. A winner last out in a maiden.

I love horses coming out of a maiden win like this one, who

then back it up with a bunch of good works.

And there's been a couple since the yeah, one since that race,

especially at Del Mar Handily last outgoing 59 to change.

I think this one set up for elbow Lescano to try to get out

of the gate quickly again or for the first time, excuse me, away

from there. If you wanted to knock this

horse, it would be that it's on the rail and that it doesn't

break quickly. I totally get it.

But I think fast enough in this company, especially with Kerry

Gold next to it, who's not going to break fast with run carry in

the third, who's not going to break fast?

And with the four horse and last call London, who's not going to

break fast? I think it actually gives brunch

and crunch a bit of a cushion to break from the inside and be

ready to go there. So we went 1-5 and six.

We have the six in Commonberry, but we're very different here.

You landed on Uncle Chilly, which is what your nephew calls

you here. 12 to one. Kazushi Kumar.

Oh yeah, he certainly does call me that because he knows my jump

shot. He's seen it in his face.

He's cold. Cold, but yeah, Uncle Chilly.

You ever hear there's there's like a Christopher Walken clip

where he says something like to the effect, and I'm paraphrasing

it. He's like, you're talking to my

guy all wrong. You got to talk to him

appropriately. I'll get the clip.

We'll we'll straighten this out eventually.

No, I know the clip. I know the clip.

I'm waiting for you to to make this about horse racing.

Go ahead. OK.

Why would I interrupt the light of Spears?

What are we doing? What is?

This. Yeah, my bad.

Oh, Mary, I'm trying to I feel like, I feel like, like the the

Hulk guy, like he was getting. The play the piano music.

His head's hurting and he's like.

You're now muted, Barry. How about that?

What a what a what a moment. Mind the Spears.

We mute ourselves, we play the Hulk music.

It's a whole thing, not show. Business.

Oh, right. Tell me about Uncle.

Chilly So March 8th. April 5th, May 11th, June 25th,

I mean June 7th and August 2nd. They ran this horse on the wrong

surface. I agree this is not a turf

horse. I agree not at all.

And I understand why they kind of got fooled, because after

this horse broke the maiden, they put the source on the turf

and he ran pretty good. He was good.

That's right. Yes, he was.

Yeah. But the key there is the level.

The source was at a state bread optional claimer of $20,000, the

same class that they're running in on Saturday.

This horse is getting back to the dirt, will probably be more

forwardly placed than recently because of the fact of the

surface switch. The workouts also align, you'll

see since since that last since the last race.

This horse worked out on the 16th, the 23rd, and the 30th of

August. All decent works coming into

this. This horse will definitely be

flying under the radar. I like this horse quite a bit to

start off my late double. Kazusha Kumar gets them out from

Mike Pipey 28% at the current meeting at Del Mar Mike Pipe 2

for has does have three wins and two seconds in his starts there

is hitting at 12% at Del Mar a solid percentage for sure.

Yeah, it's interesting. You're right they got they got a

little duped by that 16 for a long term spread under under our

wander dead is in March and they were like this is our guy.

This is what we're going to do and then the horse was like I'm

not going to do this anymore. Exactly what happened.

We'll get back to the dirt with that one.

I went 156 already talked about the horse on the inside.

Titanic Thompson will break from the 5 for Juan Hernandez and

Steve Miyati. This one last time Barry was

very, very competitive in a 5 1/2 furlong dirt race until the

very end when this horse tried to rebid after the five

sixteenths. It just did.

It just didn't happen. But if we go to back at six

furlongs, this horse essentially was right there at the end under

Edwin Maldonado. We get to keep Juan Hernandez

here for Steve Miotti. I think that this one has a

legitimate shot here as well. And I'm very boring here.

Kathmandu is in the set in the six here.

Excuse Me is a horse that won last under Hector Barrios gets

Antonio Frazu here. First off, the claim for Doug

O'Neill a great percentage at 17%.

So I think this is the level that that horse wants to be in.

This was in previously in an optional claimer, a qualified

that had to be in for the tag at 50,000.

They paid 50 grand for this horse to try to run him in these

sorts of spots. He is a four year old intact son

of cat burglars, so maybe they're thinking of him for the

Cal bred ranks moving forward. Barry, after the 9 you landed on

the 6th and the 10 already talked about the 6th.

So why don't you talk about the outside horse here in Known

Idea? Yeah, another horse that I think

was kind of running on turf and probably shouldn't have been.

They wheeled this horse back on the dirt last time at the

straight $20,000 open level, ran really good.

I think that trend will continue.

And again, there's not a whole hell of a lot of speed.

I think being forwardly places where you need to be and known

idea should be that. Known idea, made $100,000 last

year, is over three this year, but as Barry mentioned, 3rd

place finish last out. First up off of the layoff

Hey, shut out. Yeah, versus good people.

All right, optional claimer here, a $50,000 tag you for non

2 lifers and of course an $81,000 purse here going a mile

on the turf course. I thought a fun, fun close to

this card here we get a full field of 12.

Barry, it is an odd number race, my friend, you and I very

similar in our handicapping. Both have the 12 and the 10 in

our handicapping. You landed on the 10 here in

Transcending the Irish Breath. Yeah, there.

There's a lot to like here. You know, the fact that this

horse is stretching out number one, Number two, the last race

this horse was in didn't get the greatest of trips with the top

rider at the track. Combine that with the steady

workouts. So this, that last race was July

19th and you'll see the workouts since then.

July 31st, August 7th, August 14th, August 21st, August 31st

with a bullet right there. Yep.

Gets one Hernandez again. Yep, everything aligns with this

horse to stretch out and win this race.

Totally agree, I have that horse third of my handicapping.

I went even further outside to the best is yet to be another

Irish bred on the outside, another Phil d'amato.

Antonio Fraser gets them out here.

This is one that tried a mile in three ace last time.

Barry at Del Mar in an is an optional claimer.

It was an optional claimer and is second off the layoff here.

19% off the bench like that for Phil d'amato.

I do think this one's very, very live in this spot.

Obviously he and Fraser at 15% this meet.

Bracer with 35 wins right now at Delmar hits the board at an

insane percentage as well. Unfortunately for him, 44 times

running second in those races. But the last time this horse was

at this kind of level, Barry was 2 back at a mile at Santa Anita,

did win. So got finally a win at a mile

in that tried the Blue Northern before, for example, back in

December of 22. This is a horse that took 23 and

24 off and is coming back this year to figure it out.

I think this is a horse that's running really, really well

right now and frankly doesn't know any damn better that this

is a higher level run at both the 25 claimer and the 50

allowance level before stepping into that 50 optional claimer at

a much further distance. I think the mile is right here.

Give me the 12 on top, who I know you have second in your

hand, many capping, but boy, you're going to keep it outside.

Skating through life is the 11. Avaloscato gets them out for

Mark. What do you like about him?

Hers. Yeah, I, I mean, the last time

we saw this horse, December 29th, 2024, ran a real nice

race. And I don't really think there's

a whole lot in here to be honest with you.

You know, you see a lot of horses that are, you know, that

broke their maiden and and kind of running these sort of races a

lot. Cash checks every now and then,

sure, but nobody that's monstrous or or scary, so to

speak, in this spot. And I think the lightly raced

horse might be one that can hit the board as far as the 12 goes.

I do like that horse, but I just think that there's two things

that I don't like. One is the cut back from a mile

and 3/8 to a mile. I think that's a little bit too

far because the paces of those races are wildly different.

And then the outside post, the 12 spots, really hard to to make

a a real closing bid from. And this horse was running in

condition. Claimers winning those races

gets into this type of race. It might be difficult plus the

outside post plus the pace of the race.

So I think that horse can hit the board, just not win.

10/12/11 for Barry I went 12-7 and ten in the closer.

I want to make sure I didn't talk about word play, but word

play did win his last her last two races.

Excuse me, one at Santa Anita and an optional claimer at this

level 1 and in the starter allowance at this level for non

3 lifers. Obviously now has the three

wins. Two wins this year, 2 seconds

and a third Horse hasn't been worse than second in her last

four races. But Barry, it just seems like a

Del Mar this year. That horse doesn't win the

closer. It just doesn't.

I don't know why everything about that horse on paper says

she should win. Here burns money though.

She burns up money. She, she has in the past.

I mean she got claimed and and and it's been 2 for three since

but I I think those were softer fields.

OK, fair enough. All right.

Well, Barry, another Socal Saturday come and go.

Looking forward to the debutant. Of course, other great racing
