Alamitos for their thoroughbred meet here just a couple of
weeks. Evie Johnston on the card there
as well for Cal Breads. We will get into that one.
One of the girls tries to take on the guys again.
Barry and Louis hanging out with you.

Very good day to you, Sir. How are you?
It's been a solid 24 hours, essentially.
Good afternoon my man. You know, good news is the
weather has kind of calmed down here in.
In what does calming down mean for a Floridian?
It like it's under 1900° or yes. Under 90, so we're, we, we broke
the 90 threshold. We were 88 today and it feels
like it's 60. Oh, that's very different.
I I was looking at the weather here 'cause we're gonna be in
the high 80s early next week, but we're gonna just be like low
60s at night into the 80s during the day, sunny.
I'll take all of it, man. I'll take all of it.
I know you can't do that. Too much melanin.
You've got used to Florida. It's all the things as we go
inside the mind of Spears. But yes, I, you know you don't.
Oh, hell no, you don't want that.
Yes, we'll get into that. Of course, we will have Bori
Berry's boring play of the day later on in the program here.
I did want to say a word of thank you.
I got so many notes from people yesterday was our 6th
anniversary show on the happy hour was able to have Thistle
again off the line for that one. If you haven't gotten to go
listen to that, there's about a 10 minute stretch where Mike's
on We get to reminisce a little bit.
I really appreciate that Barry. Before we got going.
Certainly you're one of those people that's made the happy
hour what it is today. The fact that we've gone six
years is still bonkers to me that we've had the same table
for the Derby on the 8th pole for you know, since justify is
is a remarkable thing to me and I always try to stop and say
thank you in my life. Barry, when good things are
happening and frankly, it's it's amazing that the first time Mike
and I did the show, we sat on the floor in his office in front
of a couch and just talked into a laptop.
And now I get to do what I do and travel and, and meet lots of
people like you, which is awesome.
And, and so gratitude to all of you who are watching 180 of you
who are watching right now for no reason at all.
And so I just appreciate all of you hanging out with the
program. Very a thank you to you
personally because it's been a really wonderful addition to my
my broadcasting market. And hang out with you.
Thank you so much, man. I I appreciate you.
I can't even, I don't have the words for it, but the show you
definitely a very, very meaningful and a big part of my
life so. We're having fun.
I appreciate it. I think people.
Can tell that. Part too, is that you and I just
like hanging out. We're gonna be a bringing up to
you, of course, with our friends at Amwager.
We'll have some other partners we're gonna be hanging out with,
which I'm very excited to announce in a couple of weeks
here. We've got some great ones lined
up. Oh, I was hoping I just got an
e-mail. Yeah, we'll get going on those.
We'll have a ton of coverage of Blood Horse as well.
You'll see Barry on our Blood Horse coverage at Breeders' Cup
as well. So be tuned in for all of that.
Of course, our mutual friend Sean Collins will be out there
for part of that as well. But let's get into it, man.
We got a bunch of handicapping to do 10 race card at Los Al.
You know, when Ed put out the other day, the entries and
different things, 97 entries, man, for A10 race card here.
I was really, really pleased to see.
Oh, yeah, that's, that's, you know, get those numbers up.
That's what we like to see. A lot of lot of action, lot of
options, and hopefully a lot of dollars.
Only one maiden race on the card that actually kind of stood out
to me, Barry, and it is the one where the the tag is the
tallest. So we will get into that in race
3. But race 1 is a claimer.
We're running for $20,000 here. You will hear that word claimer
quite a bit, but in Southern California, you know what clamer
means, Barry? It means a nice size field and
that's what we get in race one, $20,000.
We're going a mile here. Lots of those races at Los
Alamitos. If you are unfamiliar with the
course, dirt only at a slight right turn when you get into
that final turn there on the stretch.
They do run the quarters at night there.
So Saturday, Sunday nights, you may have seen them running under
the lights out at Los Alamitos. Odd race means that our odd guy
Barry gets to go first. I always wondered why they have
that little little right hand turn.
Well, this used to not be a full Oval.
And so I know that. But Oval, Yeah.
They couldn't make it straight across like.
No Barry, they couldn't. How about that?
I guess not. Slight right turn to make it 1
mile even all the way around. That's why that damn right knock
all right alone you. Understand.
My fault. My fault.
My fault. Yeah.
This. This, this.
Nice. This is actually a nice little
race here. I love the early picks pick
three. I think it's a spectacular
little fun sequence. And by the way, lots of dollar
minimums at low Sal including the pick 3.
Yeah, I ended up on #8 joint venture.
I thought this horse could get a good trip stalking the pace from
the outside. Great King looks to be the speed
of the speed, but it's a little bit faint hearted and I think a
joint venture will stick to that horse like glue, pass late and
take over and win this race going away.
All right, so you have the 8 on top, you have the seven in your
handicapping. Second Doo Wop Don, which is a
spectacular name. It's not in my handicapping, but
I look at this one, Barry. This one makes a lot of sense.
He makes a lot of sense class wise, but he he kind of is a
synthetic horse. I mean, I'm familiar with him
because he ran a Gulfstream and and kind of took to the
synthetic. So it's kind of surprising that
he ends up out there. But he's good enough to beat
most of this field and I think he could best the rest and
finish second. You and I have some overlap
here. I'm 48 and one in race one on
the card at Los Alamitos this weekend.
I'll start with Great King, who you mentioned already.
I think you're right. He's going to get a fair amount
of the early run in this race. Picks up Kazushi Kamara, who was
aboard last time at Del Mar. Moves to the Rodriguez barn
here. Second off the layoff.
A pretty good angle for him. Three of his last, excuse me,
two of his last 18, but hits a 23% on dirt.
This is what he does very, very, very well.
The two of them have teamed up before on a winner and so so
hopefully that Great King will get the kind of trip that we
expect to see that we got at Emerald Downs, for example, and
at Turp Paradise. Go on the 7 1/2 on the grass as
well. We've seen him be good on the
grass before. As you and I always talk about
when we get to these meats at Los Al, that's usually not a big
deal for the grass horses getting to Los Alamitos.
They tend to take to the dirt surface here very well.
But I'm 481. You already talked about the
eight. I'll talk about the inside horse
in Fireman Dan. I I know gut feelings have no
places in serious wagering shows, but I do think Fireman
Dan benefits from Armando IU. So I think he wants to win a
riding title in Southern California and I think he's got
a chance to do it here at Del Mar.
Was aboard on this one at Del Mar at LaSalle.
He was aboard this one at Del Mar last out, but I do think
getting at this distance where the horses hit the board seven
times in eleven runs and does have a win at Los Al.
I think this sets up OK for the one horse and fireman Dan.
So again Barry and race 1 lands on 8-7 and four.
I land on the 4/8 and a what? It's funny, Fireman Dan, he has
the past performances that I like to call the Tetris.
They all look the same and it looks like all the all the
numbers line up and and the horse kind of finishes in the
same spot every time. The old Tetris, if you will.
Yes, that's exactly. We'll move on to race 2.
Even number races means you hear from Louis first.
This is in fact another claimer but an optional claimer, $47,000
on the line here going 6 1/2 furlong.
So we'll start a little bit into the chute there at Los Alamitos.
This is for three and up essentially for non 2 lifers in
this spot. Barry, you and I, this is as
different as I think we are on a race on the card here.
I landed on Code Duelo. We'll break from the 6th.
Edgar Paelleros gets the ride here, gets them out, and his
thoroughbred numbers are stupid good.
He wins at 21%, and the reason is largely because he rides at
Los Al quite a bit, and so this is his home track.
This is the place where he works essentially all the time.
He gets the sun 97 year old, excuse me, gelded son of honor
code in this spot who just ran a massive number at the 870
distance. Now we are going further than
that. I totally understand, but this
is a horse that is held up better over different spots that
even tried him in the Hernandez down the hill a couple of months
ago in December at Santa Anita. And so I'm interested to see
this one try to get back to what this one did in the winter
championship at over 1000 yards at Los Alamitos 96 on the
quarter horse figure last time in mixed company.
Interested to see this one get back here.
Did some closing from off the speed and that one think should
I think this one should be part of the equation at the end.
It should be coded duelo. You landed on the seven though
here in Concord Bridge. Yeah, I thought Concord Bridge
had a couple races back earlier this year that would easily win
this the the June 6th race and May 4th kind of 1 going away, 1
going a mile, one at 6 1/2, which is tomorrow's distance.
Turf to dirt makes a lot of sense.
I think that, you know, cutting back from the mile and 16th on
the turf should accentuate this kick there.
There's quite a lot of speed in here.
Rexford should get involved early just because of the post
position. Carver has a lot of speed and
sharp as a tack code dwello and I think you know with the
cutback conquer bridge could sit right off him and and finish
this off. Concord Bridge will sit in the
seven. You also have the best name in
the field in Vancouver breaking from the three.
Interesting to see Antonio Freis, who pretty clearly going
to ride this entire meet at Los Alamito.
Should give him an opportunity to pick up some checks.
What do you like about the three here in Vancouver?
Came off the two year break running.
Ran a pretty decent race back in July.
Lost the rider on the in the August 16th race, which you
know, you really can't fault that horse too much, but the
race before that was not too far off.
Bad Uncle Barry who who's pretty good at the five for a long
distance on the turf. This probably suits this horse a
lot better. Should be picking up pieces
late. I went a different direction in
Race 2. I went 6-5 and seven here.
Already talked about the six in code.
Duela breaking right next to her is sharp as a tack as you
mentioned and next to him, I should say, excuse me, is sharp
as a tack. Billion to Georgia getting them
out here. This is one that wasn't very
good last out, but that was first up off of a little bit of
a break and it was on the turf. So we're going to get back to
the dirt here where the horse is 1 for two lifetime on this kind
of surface. One for one at the distance, by
the way, as well. So interested to see this one
get back to the dirt. I think it hasn't been there
since the Malibu in 2023, but this is a horse.
Oh man OK, February of 24. This horse was on the dirt in a
winning effort under Antonio phrase too.
So hopefully Hector Palma's finished figured out that this
one wants to go back. I don't know that I've seen a
sub 34 work like that. It's been a minute.
The work before that on August 28th also very, very fast.
So hopefully got the legs out, stretched them out last time on
the turf there at Del Mar and we'll run a little bit better.
Wheel sharp as attack in this one.
And a third of my handicapping is the seven horse here, Concord
Bridge, who you mentioned to be on top.
And as you said, largely a class issue with that one here.
Move on to Race 3 and we're presented by AM Wager and AM
wager.com here on the Horse Racing Happy Hour.
These are Socal Saturdays. You can always find my article
at the Sporting Tribune on the big race of the day.
And of course, it'll be about the EB Johnston by the time we
get to the website thesportingtribune.com.
Race 3 is a maiden 50 for steak breads for California breads,
$30,000 on the line here going 6 furlongs on the dirt course
there. Odd number means Barry goes 1st
and Barry landed on a long shot and Barry's going to tell us
why. Breaking from the rail.
This one's OK, but all the other ones are bad.
Price price Price Yesterday's price is not today's price could
be Gold 20 to 1 morning line has some speed in a race that
doesn't look like there's a whole lot of speed in it for a
for a maiden race. Typically you'll see a whole
bunch of horses that that kind of run like chickens with their
heads cuts off, but this one in particular there really doesn't
seem to be all that much speed. I mean the two might show some
speed, but I like the workout pattern for could be gold coming
into this. The last two workouts there,
they're a little spaced out, which is a little strange, but
it could be that they were missing this horse out on the
track because it seems like they're they were ramping up to
try to win this race. Draws the rail.
I'm not that enthusiastic about it, but I think the speed might
do it here. That is the Gonzales Ramirez
combination. If it hits Barry's, Barry's
going to look unbelievably intelligent.
You also have the 8 and the six in your handicapping, which
matches up with my handicapping in this race.
Barry. I only have two horses in here,
the 8 and the six. Bazooka Charlie, my oldest is
named Charlie. That is not why I picked this
horse, but was very, very good on day last out, I should say.
Excuse me. Yeah.
On debut in the maiden ranks at Del Mar.
Before that was here at Los Al as well over the six furlongs,
but I thought took a major step forward under Antonio Frisu.
Who keeps them out here and if I were going to single in the
early sequence I would try Antonio Phrase who here in this
spot with the 8 horse. The 16 off is very interesting
as well. Was in last out behind Bazooka
Charlie in the same race. Ran 5th in that one.
Should you know, should be a little bit better here.
I like the idea of throwing the blinkers on because this is one
that gets into that that final stretch and starts looking
around, gets it starts to flatten out.
So hopefully throwing the blinkers on, hearing the noises
rather than looking around should be good for this one.
Barry, anything to add to your handicapping here from that's
race 4 from that racer here? It's, it's hard to trust horses
like Bazooka Charlie and Teen off and in spots like this
because they, they do have more starts than everybody else
basically. And as those pile up, you know,
you get a little bit more skeptical and they may need to
drop in class. So races like this tend to be
sort of chaos because the, the horses that really look good on
paper are stacking up losses. So these, these end up being
pretty tough races. But I, I, I think, you know, I'm
willing to take a shot on a 20 to one in a spot like this.
There you go, we move on to Race 4 there at Los Alamitos.
This is Socal Saturday's here on the Horse Racing Happy Hour
Network celebrating 6 years. How about that Lou, your Bogger
Spears hanging out with you? amwager.com.
Go check them out right now. Our friends over there at
Amwager. Race 4 is another Claimer, 6250
Claimer. You'll hear that quite a bit
throughout the rest of the card. 5 and a furlongs on the dirt
here $13,000 purse and this is 4/3 and up, which have just
never won three races non 3 lifers in here Barry and many of
them you can see why they've never won three races but I'm
going to go a little bit longer odds here 8 to one on big bet.
The six horse here, Edgar Pereiros getting them out here
and this is one that we saw win 2 back at 4 1/2 in in company
with other thoroughbreds right here at Los Alamitos.
Yes, it was at the 3500 level, but it's just what they run at
Los Alamitos at night. And this is one that's going to
be in the same kind of company here with 6250 kind of horses.
It's not terribly different, Barry, for me from those $5000
claimers that we saw at Santa Anita in the spring, for
example. So I think this horse fits the
numbers well, I think fits the speed well.
And I get Edgar prayers and I get 8 to 1 on this horse.
So I'll go ahead and put the six on top in race 4.
Give that one a try. You and I do have a lot of
agreements in this race. You ended up 19 and 3 in here
buddy. Are you are you living on the
rail this week? What are we doing here?
Yeah, yeah, I mean it. It's just the luck of the draw,
as they say. But who says?
That very Who are these people? Who says it?
Not me. I'm not one of those people.
Not me. I don't believe in draws.
Keep going. Yeah, you're fine.
Blue cheese Olive. But I think I think this course,
the drop in class is is what does it kind of acted up in the
this August 14th race at Del Mar didn't get out of the gate well
and it was just kind of a debacle.
So you can put a line through that and the two races prior to
the to that one were pretty good fit at this level should be
formidable. They just need to get out of the
gate. That's that's really the issue
here. The outside horse with the 9
Navy man seems to fit class wise is dropping to the lowest level
they've ever been. That should count for something.
Maybe not a win, but I I think this horse is going to show up.
Similar for you, 193. I'm 619 in this race, so
obviously just one horse different on top for us.
Your son is in the Navy. My son's name, Charlie.
Maybe that's the hunch. Play is Bazooka Charlie in the
Navy man. There it is.
Boom. There you go, there's our
there's boom talk, there is our our hutch play for the weekend.
We are talking Los Al here on the Horse Racing Happy Hour
presented by Amwager. A reminder that your mom loves
Los Al. Move on to race 5 here, closing
the early pick five and of course starting the pick 3.
It's a $2.00 traditional pick 6. Excuse me there at Los Alamitos.
If you would like to get in, you'll have to start with this
one. Another 6250 claiming this is
for non threes as well. The Philly and mare edition of
it here, Barry. And you know what I say to 6250
claimers? Give me all of them.
We get 10 horses. You know that that's funny you
say that because that was kind of the attractor or is sort of
the attractor in some of those races in the the championship
ship meet down here at Gulfstream is the the lower
level grass races. So, you know, it's kind of a
little the opposite out there, but these are the bread and
butter. I mean, these are the, these are
the races that you'll see a lot of these are the races that'll
get you paid because they're usually chaos and I like to have
them on cards. Yeah, no, these are spectacular
cards, a very unusual thing for me in this race with my
handicapping. But you landed 49 and 3 here in
Race 5, Barry, in this claimer, Ryder's candy.
Talk about. It, you know, this race, I think
a lot of these horses look the same on paper, but it it stands
to be a lot more difficult because of the fact that you
have these nighttime horses that get mixed in with these lower
level types and it's hard to tell where they fit class wise.
And you'll see sometimes you'll get one that's that's probably
really quick that's flying under the radar.
I gather that's going to happen in one of these races.
I'm not sure it's this one, but it's something to keep an eye
on. But Rider's Candy is a horse
that was running good last year at the 2520 thousand dollar
level. Won a race at that level back
June 23rd last year. Fast forward to May, ran a
pretty good race at the same level or actually 20,009 winners
a three back in May at 32 to one and then kind of, you know, was
running evenly. Last time was way out wide,
didn't have a shot. But this time they drop in class
and hook a field where there may be some opportunity where this
horse gets a pretty good trip. There's some speed towards the
inside and rhythm girl Misty Dancer will probably get
involved. The three gentle Julia will
probably get close to. So they're going to be pushing
that pace up front and I think that might put Riders Candy in a
great spot. All right, Barry, 4-9 and three.
I'm 123. There you go.
I'm speaking to Rhythm Girl and our guy Armando Iuso breaking
from the inside. Not a great number together, but
this one gets back into the kind of level and back to a place
where it's won before. One in an $8000 non 2 a couple
of months ago in June when we were last here for thoroughbred
racing at Los Alamitos, gets back to the 6250 level here.
I think it's perfect for this one and gets back to a place
where it has she's won before, the three-year old Misty Dancer
right next to her. Arantes, I'm hoping has a nice
meet here. Still getting 5 lbs on the bug
there. The last time we saw this one
run and win was at the 5000 on two level, which is for those
Northern California horses. This one, of course, running at
Pleasanton before breaking its maiden there.
And I just think with her, if we can get back to that 5 1/2 and
do the thing that we did at Santa Anita, she's going to have
a serious shot. And then General Julia, you and
I both have in our handicapping here at the three horse.
So I I I don't feel as crazy here, but this is just an old
another Los Al specialist. And and I'm just wondering if we
can't get I don't think she wins here, Barry, but I think I think
there's a chance that this 20 to one spices up and exotic for
somebody. Yes, I I totally agree.
Ran some good races back at Pleasanton, Fresno, Ferndale
that fit pretty good in this spot and 20 to 1's a good price.
I can I can definitely see this horse sneaking in the the try or
super. The 9 is the other horse in your
handicapping. This is one that you're going to
have to talk me into other than, hey, this horse was really good
at Keeneland in April. That's it, OK, That's all.
That's all. That's all it qualifies for.
And then, you know, the horse just spirals down into the
bottom level of horsedom and again that that's going to go a
long way in a race like this if they get out of the gate and
kind of if if Franco can get this horse kind of mid pack,
they should be fine because the the drop in class should mean a
lot. There you go, that's race 5.
We'll move on to race six. Another 6250 claimer here on
SoCal Saturdays. I'm Lou Rabo hanging out with
Barry Spears, represented by AM Wager, am wager.com as I try to
clean up all of the different banners that I am making.
It's a day. Race 6, like I said, another
claimer, 5 1/2 on the dirt here for three and up.
No conditions here, just a claiming price.
Barry. Race 6 means Louis goes first.
I went 281 and here we have the same horse on top in Western
Ave. Gonzales for Sean Williams.
And this is one that we saw in a starter allowance type company
last out. It just didn't like it before
that though did win for trainer George Papa Codromo at the
$10,000 non 3 lifer level. This is much, much more in line
with that before that one at the 25,000 claiming level before
that at the maiden special weight on the turf.
But I just think this is the level for this horse.
I'm positive you agree because you have a source on top as
well. But two for three at the
distance, etcetera, etcetera. Barry, this one just makes a lot
of sense. Yeah, he might actually stand
out. I might put that label on him
because there really isn't much going on after you get by
Western Ave. Speed, this horse gets in good
position. The buyer numbers all align.
It's a little suspicious that this horse is actually here, but
I'll go with it because it it, you know, there's really not
much in this race. I think they just picked the
right race. Yeah, well, sometimes it just
shakes out that way, right? You just get lucky that who
shows up is not at your level. You also like the 11 in here
going to break from the outside, outside of the Big Cheesy Ola,
which I appreciate, but Big Don's smiling.
What? Big Don's smiling next to the
Big Cheesy Ola is a lot of smiling.
I'll tell you what. Yeah, no doubt Big Don's
smiling. The last three races.
This horse got in a lot of trouble.
The June 13th race was stuck on the rail and and didn't get the
greatest of trips. The next one, the comment in the
form is Chase five to seven wide.
You don't see that often, no. You don't.
And, and it's funny because there's only six horses in the
race and they said seven wide. And that's a bad trip.
That's getting in trouble. Barry, this is 6 horse field.
You're out in the seventh path. That's getting in trouble.
Oh man, I could not hear you. Actually, that's funny.
You are muted. Now.
Go ahead and unmute that and we'll see where you're at.
After that, I'll go ahead and talk about my picks for Race 6
while you get us sorted out here.
I went a slightly different direction.
We have the same horse on top. I'll talk about the eight horse
here in race 6, Instinct. The Oro will be the favorite.
Our guy Edgar Paeiras is there. You are for Sergio Morphine.
The two of them hooking up here. But this is one that's been
running at the 8010 thousand kind of level and has been
knocking at the door like crazy before.
The last out, which was at Del Mar at 5 1/2.
Horse was just not ready. Ran second by half length, third
by 3/4 of a length, 1st and then fifth by three lengths.
And so this is just a horse that's always been right there.
Barry. I think this level is probably
right. And so also I wanted to say in
these 6250 races, I know they're not designated as Cal bred
races. We're getting a ton of Cal breds
in these races. So I think we kind of need to be
realistic about what the Cal bred program looks like at all
the levels. Not a lot of Cal bred horses in
these races. So hopefully they keep them up
at the different spots around the circuit.
But Stanford Malibu is an is a an LRC GOAT and won this race. 3
back it at this distance under Daniel Herrera.
Giovanni Franco gets them out here for Isidro Tamayo.
Nice to see his name on a horse here as well.
So I landed as it says on screen 28 and one in here.
You went to 11:00 and 6:00. Go ahead and tell the people
about my bucket list. Yeah, kind of a closer.
Which is. You know, would benefit from a
hot pace which I think they're going to get and should be
closing late. Big price round out that try for
us there. You go move on to race 7, then.
Here on Socal, Saturdays were presented by Amwager and
amwager.com, where you can get a 100% deposit match up to $150.00
right now. You don't even have to go inside
the mind of Spears. Don't even have to do that.
Nope. Don't want to do that.
Even amwager.com, I don't even want to do that.
Yeah, nobody wants to be in there at all.
We move on to Race 7 at Los Alamitos as we continue through.
Yeah, the racing there, the precursor to the EB Johnson.
Of course, this starts the late pick four, $1.00 minimum there
at Los Alamitos. Get in on that bet.
It is the dollar Los Al pick four.
That's their best bet. Yeah, I mean, he's got it.
Yeah, just it tracks the best pools.
I mean, if you could afford the pick 6 for sure, that's a very
good bet as far as returns and different things.
But the pick four seems to be the one that you have a chance
to hit and you can afford. Race 7 is an optional claimer
for Cal Breads. We're going 6 furlongs on the
dirt here, $46,000 on the line in here.
Barry, you and I landed on a different horse on top.
I landed on the one next to the number 3 Piper's Causeway.
Which you landed on Grazed. No, no.
All right. I laid it on Jack.
I laid it on Jack. Fish.
You landed on Piper. Oh, outside of me.
OK, yes yeah. Piper's Causeway.
I don't understand why they keep running this horse on the turf.
The source's races seem to be better on on the on the dirt and
they just don't run this horse on the dirt that often.
They went three times, just missed on the first try of first
level allowance race and then went into this level and kind of
didn't really do much getting blinkers.
I I think that might help, but we'll see.
I'm willing to give it a go because I don't think this horse
is going to get bet down too much.
I think 5 to 1 is a solid number.
You have the three on top of the eight second in your
handicapping here in yo time, have you ever said someone to
someone? It's yo time.
Have you ever done that, Barry? I don't think you've ever done
that. Actually I have is it Mohegan
Sun at the crap table when I said it's yo time yo 11 let's.
Go throw throw a a plan. God, I don't even know craps
terminology. 65. I'm holding the line.
Is it the line? Is that what it's called in
craps? Pass.
Pass. That's right.
Yeah, I'm passing lines. Yes.
Yeah. It's not a cocaine you.
Don't want you don't want to do the pass.
The pass was like the don't pass line is like betting chalk all
day. Frowned upon.
It's actually frowned upon at the table, so you can't do that.
What do you like about young time?
This horse really hasn't run bad at all.
I mean you could probably put a line through the turf races and
if you do that this horse it looks even better.
Just hasn't been out in a while. Haven't seen seen him since July
4th. Probably needs one, but I think
this horse is good enough to be in contention.
All right, I went a slightly different way.
I went 4-8 like you did, but three in the third spot.
So I'll talk about the four horse here.
Really the only big difference Jack fish Barry knows I love
this angle. I love a horse coming out of a
win in a maiden special weight where they really put it
together this one last time out really put it together.
Did Jack fish keeps or excuse me, pixel me Antonio Fresio in
the mount brother. If we get 4 to 1 on this horse,
I this is 1 where I'm going to, I'm going to push, push.
Peter Miller loves these kinds of horses that he feels are good
on turf but can run on the dirt as well to put them in these
kinds of spots. So I'm going to lean on him here
for this one. I wish his numbers with Antonio
were a lot better, but they are just not.
And so hopefully this horse who does have a bullet at San Luis
Rey on the dirt in his workout tab to get back to the dirt look
good here as well. I like the four to one number.
I just think he's one of the faster horses in this field and
I think he'll take the dirt at low.
Sal very well agree with you on the eighth there and obviously
with Piper's Causeway, who you have on top.
But what about Graves? What'd you like about Grazed in
your third spot here? Fast and fast tends to hang
around a lot. Turf to dirt horse probably
needed that those those two races probably going to get a
good performance out of Grazed on Saturday, so I I think that
one can hang around for 3rd. There you go.
We'll move on. Now to move on to Race 8.
The late pick three starts here, just a $1.00 pick three.
The $3 pick 3 has not been picked up at Los Alamitos.
Just get another state bread race here, $46,000 on the line
in an optional claimer going 5 1/2 furlongs.
Here's this for Phillies and Maris, 3 and up on that one as
well. Eighth race means Louis goes
first. I'll go ahead and put my picks
up there as well. There's Louis picks.
I went 10-6 and five here, Barry.
So I landed on the outside horse in Marinda apparently.
I think Kazushi Camaro is going to have a big meet, but this one
last out wasn't great on the turf running 7th, but was part
of the early pace and did a lot of the early work in a very,
very fast race. Last time we saw this horse at
Los Alamitos was in an optional for 40 where the horse was not
in for the tag. In for the tag today for Gary
Mandela, which is very interesting to me, but if the
horse runs the race it ran last time here, I think it wins Now
that was under Edwin Maldonado. We're making the switch to
Kazushi here and I think that'll be an OK switch for sure.
But this son of a totally the distance obviously shouldn't be
an issue at all. So I'm going to lean on the 10
here in race 8 on top. I'll go to the six next.
And clubhouse bride, of course, all of us who watch California
racing. No clubhouse ride.
One of the most expensive sires in California stands for 7500
Lord Nelson, I think is 10. Trying to think of some other
prices out there. But clubhouse ride of course out
there standing this horse at the distance is 1 for one.
Interested to see this one a little bit shorter because at
six furlongs last time at Santa Anita got caught right at the
line. So I'm wondering if a slightly
shorter race here at 5 1/2 will work out better.
Tyler Bay's getting the, excuse me, getting the amount here as
well, so I'll go 86 or excuse me, 10-6 and five here in Race
8. Barry, you landed in Race 8 on
the seven. Yeah, good night, Nelly there.
There's a lot going on here. It's like you know how in the
cartoons back in the day I do you see, like the eat at Joe's
and then they have like all these other neon signs and
arrows pointing. That's what's going on with the
seven. All the arrows and the neon
signs are pointing to bet this horse.
I'll go through it. This horse won on July 6th at
LaSalle at this same trip, I believe No 6 furlongs.
It was 6 furlongs. Horse won going away and got
claimed. They come back to turf.
Races don't do very much and I don't really think that that is
good night Nellie's preferred surface.
So they're one for one at LaSalle, they're one for one at
the distance. A bullet work September 3rd at
Del Mar 59 and two handily turf to dirt numbers for Jorge
Parabon. He's about 20% hooks up with a
USO at almost 30%. So all those things combined is
those are all the arrows saying you should bet this horse and
and we're probably going to get a decent price.
This horse probably won't be favored because of the fact that
they're not dropping down. They're kind of staying lateral
and there's some other drop downs that probably will take
some money, like the horse outside the 9 Brookie's gal
Miranda will probably take some money too, at least more than
than the seven so. Well, now that I've mentioned a
good state. Right, exactly.
You're going to that's going to be.
The the Louie influence, Yeah, it as.
Well, the Louie, Louie. Money.
Do you like to eat at Joe's that I put on the screen?
Yes. OK.
We got to eat at Joe. 'S a solid reference there, but
again, Barry 79 and five in this one of those.
Boards like a, you know, it says eat at Joe's and I'll just walk
up and down the street. Jorge Parabon and Armando Ayuso,
as he pointed out, three from four of their last four at Los
Al the ROI 7:30 on that one. I guess we'll take that just a
little bit. Brookies Gal you have in here,
and this is 1 coming out of stakes races, Black type, 50,000
black types in the Pacific Northwest.
What do you like about Brookies Gal?
Yeah, she should fit here. I agree without a problem and
you know the the drop down out of space company is going to
track a lot of attention, but she's a closer and that already
has kind of a built in disadvantage, but she should be
formidable in this spot and be right around it at the end.
We move on to Race 9. It is the feature of the day at
CB Johnston. It is a mile on the dirt course
there. It is for Cal Breads 3 and up.
No other requirements at all. We're going for $75,000 on the
line here. I texted you earlier in the week
because I was so excited. They put she's mostly in this
race. I love it when they try the
girls against the boys. I, I don't I don't think she
wins here, but Barry, if she wins, I'm not going to be
stunned. I'll put it that way.
So I absolutely it wouldn't stun stun me if she want.
It would stun stun me because there's no way she should beat
Mana Rose in this. OK, All right.
So you and I do disagree on this race.
I'm excited to talk to you about it, not because I want to fight
or something, but rather this is.
Your yeah, but you want to get in the mind of Spears.
That's we don't. Nope, Nope, Nope.
Don't want that. Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope.
But this is your boring play of the day as we go.
Johnson, you're going to try the six to five mana rose.
Yeah. Towers over this field speed
wise they they shouldn't touch this horse at all.
Nice Bullet on September 6th down at Del Mar, one out of 2859
and two Handley from the gate. Nobody's as fast as this horse
on paper, so I doubt they'll actually be fast as this horse
in real life, but they're going to try and they're going to lose
and the six is going to finish second.
I think the six wins this race and I think it's just because
he's in form and I think. He's possible.
I think Antonio's going to give him the right ride and I think
he's going to be able to pick those things off.
But this is Bor Barry's boring play of the day.
So he is 3/6 and one in the Johnston.
You had Chismosa third. To be fair to you and to to
Chismosa, I went 6-3 and two in this spot.
You. You.
Did all that and didn't even pick her.
I did all that and didn't even pick her.
That's right. Yeah.
Look, me wanting the girls to race against the boys doesn't
mean that I'm just going to pick the girls.
What are we doing trying to make money, Barry?
I'm not worried about worried about people.
Stealing spending money here. You're right, you're right.
Eat its. Nose dog, What are we doing
here? Come on.
You got to win to eat at Joe's. Damn right.
If I'm going to Sizzler, I need money and so I think the two
horse here is fascinating just because of the three wins here
at the distance and one for two at Los Al Stamp my passport for
Leonard Powell. Weirder things have happened
than that horse winning this race.
And so I just want to watch. That's it.
Just six, three and two for me, Barry in the Johnson three, six
and one. Is there a storyline out of this
race that that could happen if if a certain horse wins?
Is there one that would this be a cool story of Tresmosa wins?
Absolutely, it's got a good shot.
I I I don't think she's without a chance.
She's got the class to do it. She just needs a setup and and
drawing the rail wasn't the the perfect thing that's for her.
And the other question mark is the distance.
But class wise, she she fits very well here.
There you. Go all right, move on to the
closer. That is Race 10 on Saturday at
Los Alamitos were presented by Amwager and amwager.com.
This is the horse racing happy hour so Cal Saturdays.
You can meet my read, excuse me, my write up about the EB
Johnston over at the Sporting Tribune as well.
If you are a fan of any of the teams in Vegas, LA, San Diego or
the state of Hawaii, go check out the Sporting Tribune.
They are available wherever the Lakers footprint is and so go
check them out and certainly we cover Los Al, Santa Anita and
Del Mar there. Appreciate the numbers by the
way on the website. You all are awesome.
We've got I've had a lot of clicks on the horse racing stuff
really appreciate it 5 1/2 furlongs on the dirt there to
close the car to another 6250 non 2 lifers in this one Barry
going for $13,000 in this one. I was surprised by the some of
the morning line for this race like it was a little bit more
than what it should have been. I'll just, I'll just say that
it's kind of a. Like some of these horses don't
need to be 30 to one, they actually have a shot.
So like anyways, but we'll get into it here.
I landed on the 6th, you landed on the 6th.
I'll let you go first to your distant fleet 7 to 5.
How dare you not say this is your boring play today.
I almost did but honestly these last two races if if this double
comes out the way I've picked it, it should probably be play
pay about $2.50 so. Yeah.
That part, yeah. You know, take from that what
you want. All right, you are 610 and 12
here. Distant fleet.
What do we like? Super fast compared the the rest
of these horses. There's really no speed in here.
I, I, I don't understand how this is possible, how you could
have this little speed with 12 horses in a race.
But here we are. Distant fleet should get to the
front and keep going without issue.
Only triple digit time form speed in the race is V6.
Distant fleet here does have 100 in the early pace 46 in the
late. I guess the closest would be
formidable threat, but that low late speed figure is no good for
that one there. So that's a a little bit
different. You went 6:10 and 12:00.
I went 6-9 and ten. I'll talk about the nine horse
here. Nothing wrong with a good 691.
Big smile. Kazushi Camaro gets them out
here. This is just one.
Barry doesn't. Wrap anymore.
It's a fairpoint. It's a fairpoint, actually.
He just came out with a single, fortunately.
I had a friend named Willie who turned into you.
You might know him. Actually, he's he's he was a
rapper for a while. He went by Willie the kid based
out of Atlanta. And he he did his he did his
education doctorate first and then became a school principal
and then became a rapper. And now he's an entrepreneur
because of course he's a rapper and all rappers are
entrepreneurs. But of the he, I remember one
time I turned the corner, walked into the cafeteria in high
school and the only thing I heard was Willie say, man, Tech
9, the worst rapper I ever heard in my life.
And then I just kept walking. But now I hear like the number 9
and I think of Tech 9, the worst rapper I ever heard in my life.
And that's it. So there you go.
You are on mute. But unfortunately, I have a
feeling you said something very funny there.
You're still muted. Come on, Barry.
That's fair, That's fair. I'm 69.
And. 69 attended here. One big smile.
Like I said, running at lots of those lower levels did break his
maiden 2 back was not bad against Winters.
First time trying in January. Bit of time off here comes back
off the layoff there where Bill McClain does that at 15%.
So 6 to 1. Like the price there as well.
But like you said, the six just towers over this field.
I also have the 10 of my handicapping here.
Barry, you went 6:10 to 12:00. What do we like about Easy
Breezy other than that being a name that you hear in your house
a lot? Yeah, it's my daughter's
nickname, but I thought this horse handled the rising class
last time pretty well and should improve.
I I don't see why there's there couldn't be improvement in this
race, especially with the Super speed distant fleet up front.
This horse can pick up pieces late.
Hopefully we can nail this cold exacta on the bailout.
There you go, your mom loves locile.
