I'll tell you what Socal Saturday, September 19th edition

Happy Hour podcast platform. We thank our friends and Amwager

for hanging out with us. Check out tomorrow my piece at

the Sporting tribune.com as well as we will preview the Dark

Mirage ahead of of the day there as well.

Very good. Good afternoon.

How are you? Yeah, I had to make sure what

time it was. It's it's so dark here.

No, just kidding. Doing good.

Glad it's Friday, You know, ready for this low sale card

tomorrow? Make some money.

I think there is money to be made here.

It's a it's a good way to put it, frankly is that way.

Of course, we want to remind you about our friends at

amwageramwager.com online betting platform.

It's for horse players, designed by horse players as well.

They've got a 100% deposit match up to $150.00 for new customers.

Live in California? You need an edge, you need

Amwager. Get in with our friends right

now over there, Barry, just thinking about this as we we

close up our little sejour to Los Al here and head us back to

San Anita very soon. I I found that the the puzzle of

Los Al is very fun, right, because you get so many turf

horses just because of the calendar try in the dirt.

You get horses that have run in the quarter horse mixed fields

and then they come back to the thoroughbred only's and that

kind of stuff. I just I enjoy the puzzle that

is Los Al. Yeah, it's it's interesting

because of the fact it has its quirks.

There's no turf course and a lot of the bigger outfits take a

break at this time. So you're getting a lot of lower

level type races that are wide open, bigger fields and the

inconsistencies with those kind of horses create some some

paramutual chaos, is my my good friend Todd Shrub would say.

Paramutual Chaos talk races, one in four are maiden specials for

two year olds and they're both for two year old Phillies.

Excuse me, one for Phillies at at the first race and then for

for open company in the fourth race.

So we'll talk about both of those as well.

I think there's one to watch in race 4.

We'll talk about it when we get there, but we will start here.

I always, you know, this is the other part, Barry, it's always

too. Are they, are they starting the

horse at LaSalle because they're trying to get a step down in

quality or is the horse just ready now and they don't care

about, you know, they're running for 45 instead of 60 or 55 or

whatever, like I, you know what I mean?

And so lots to figure out. So let's do it together.

Race one is one of those main special weights.

This is on the Philly side. 2 year olds are running in this

one. We're going 6 1/2 furlongs here

and Barry, I don't think there's even a second place finish

amongst the starters here, so obviously a chance add some

value as well. You and I landed on the three

same horses but in a different order here.

You landed on the five horse and Debbie's Gale.

Yeah, just trying something different.

I thought Debbie's Gale had a good work August 28th, 59 and

one Handley from a gate. I think that may have tipped

their hand because the the gate work before that on two weeks

prior was 48 and one handily from the gate.

So I think the source has a little bit of ability.

The price will be right 6 to 1. Richard Baltus does well enough

with first time starters that I can have enough confidence in

playing him here. 6 to 1 seems like a stretch.

I would think more like 9 to 24 to 1:00-ish.

Barry in the first race here is going to be 3/5 or excuse me, 5,

three and a four. I say 3-5 and four because

that's what I have said. I have the three on top here in

Thank You India. This is a daughter of practical

jokes or royally bred horse here with blame on the damn side

included. We saw this horse last out in

the Sorento, the grade 3 here, 6 horse field horse finished third

behind him, Mika and mow him down.

I think that if Mika mow him down, we're in this field.

We wouldn't even be talking about the race.

We would just move on and include them as the tops man.

I love to step down in class here for this one.

I don't think this is a you know, Barry, this doesn't you

know, this isn't some 12-5 maiden right where they're

they're trying to dump the horse or whatever else, you know,

maybe move on from the horse in that way.

I don't think that's it at all. I think the horse is simply

stepping into a different company.

I think you agree based on your handicapping as well.

But the four horse in here is a first timer out of that McCarthy

bar and Michael McCarthy. Not the greatest with first

timer, simply not how he trains his horses on debut.

But boy, meetings look good and those workouts have been really

impressive too. Yeah, definitely.

I mean, it's so it's just so weird because you know the IT.

Doesn't make any sense. I agree with you, the curb.

And, and his horses just don't win.

And, and there's a large sample size, not, you know, like 10 or

12 horses or something. There's a hundred, a hundred

plus. So I, I'm, I'm thinking that the

trend will continue. But these races, sometimes it it

gets a little dicey when you have horses like Thank You India

in this race, right? Because of the fact it muddies

up everything else and it's hard to gauge how good that horse is.

And then the first time starters even make it worse.

My feeling is horses like Thank You India, the three in this

spot are plays against even when they're dropping in, sort of

like this one because of the fact we've seen it there

dropping in. I mean, I guess they don't

really have a choice, but it's real shaky.

This horse could win by a poll or lose by 1:00 depending on how

you view it. So this is a very interesting

first race, but I think those three we have are solid like top

three. I think those will be the three,

just depending on the order. Yeah, interesting one there.

Of course, that is on the Philly side of things.

We'll talk about a main special in the rate in the fourth race,

excuse me, on the cold side of things.

Also an interesting one there. This is the horse racing happy

Hour platform SoCal Saturdays. We're hanging out with you here

ahead of the Los Alamitos card tomorrow on Saturday.

Presented by AM Wager and AM Wager dot com.

Baden 12/5 is the second race here.

This is for Cal breads. Lots of Cal Bread races on the

card this weekend, Barry, going a mile on the dirt course there.

If you're new to Los Alamitos, that's what they have, a one

mile dirt course there. So we will start at the same

place that we will finish in this one.

We're running for $15,000 here, Barry.

Even races, if you are new to the show, means Luby goes first.

We have a show first. This has never happened since we

started doing so. Cal Saturdays.

Barry and I have the same top three in back-to-back races.

They're not in the same order, but we have the same horses of

the same top three in these back-to-back races.

I happen to land on the four here in this race in Sweet

Knowledge. A second timer who ran first out

on the turf out a mile and was making up ground at the end.

Didn't pass many horses, but frankly I thought was making a

good late kick for frankly, what was that's a tough field to go

against. A maiden 50 in California is the

highest level of maiden claimer. This horse was in for that tag

and a reasonably fast race considering it was a maiden

claimer going in a in $1.37. The move to dirt here is a good

one for trainer Dan Blacker, who's won three of his last 13

starts doing exactly that. He's very good main claimers,

wins a third of them. He's won five of his last 15,

for example. And so I do think Sweet

Knowledge second time up, at least some experience on the

track here, Barry, I think this level is probably the right one

for this horse as well. So I land on Sweet Knowledge on

top. I went 4-7 and three in here.

You have the seven on top in Maxville.

Yeah, I'm I'm sure you were scratching your head when you

saw me pick an O for 23 horse to to win a race, but here we are.

I I think it's just a unique situation where Max Maxville is

just dropping into a field he could probably handle and and I

can say probably because, you know, he is over 20.

Three, yes, he is. It's a good point by you,

though, by the way, one of the reasons I have the four on top

here in Sweet Knowledge is the horse hasn't run a lot actually,

right? So that's one of those reasons

that I totally agree with that, Barry, but keep going on #7.

Yeah, You know, I, I have the idea that this pace might

actually get hot and and put Maxville in a real good spot.

The drop down will automatically put this horse closer up to the

pace and just really has to giddy up a little bit in the

stretch to pass some horses. And if that does happen, I think

3:00 to 1:00 is way too short. But this is what we got, so

we're going to take him on top. You at 743, I go at 473.

I'll talk about the three here in Problem Solver.

Herrera gets them out out of the day.

Albabarn here. The two of them have won their

one start together at Los Al in this beat and that was a a $6.80

six .8 to one return on that investment as well.

But they do. They have.

I think 3 of their last 19 something like that together.

This is a horse that is recorded as having six career starts.

This is really a horse that has a lot of career starts.

Starting for the 12th time, has hit the board five times, but

four of those were in those mixed company races either at

1000 yards. I think most of this horses

ridings have been at 1000 yards. So I'm hoping I, I don't know

what I'm hoping for Barry. I think it's just best of the

rest in this case. But this is one that knows the

low Sal surface really, really well.

And so if we take out those races outside of low Sal,

perhaps we'll just get a better show here from the three horse.

We move on to race 3 and in this one we get an $8000 claimer for

non 2 lifers. We're going 5 1/2 on the dirt

there. 14,000 bucks up for grabs here.

Barry. It is an odd numbered race so it

is your turn to go if you are capable.

You and I finally very different in our hitting capping here.

You landed on the seven horse in race 3.

So Barry is having a little bit of tech today.

I went 4-3 and six in Race 3 here, landed on fly zapper Kyle

Frey gets them out here out of the trees bar for Charles Trees,

and this is one that ran at this level last time.

We're going to go ahead and draw a line through that race because

if we get back to Losal where this horse has had most of its

success, that's what fly zapper gets to do here, falls into that

$8000 company again has been in those 65 or excuse me, those

6250 claimers we talked about so much last week.

We got a nice winner out of those races last week, Barry,

but this one moving into the $8000 kind of level broke its

maiden at the maiden 5 where Losal.

So I'm wondering if just getting back to this surface, even in

the LRC meet, this horse has one at a 62592 lifer at the

distance. And so I so I got some hope that

fly zapper at 3:00 to 1:00 will be the one that comes through

here. So again, in this race, a little

different on 4/3 and six, the three horse in here is Halo

Uncle will be 5 to 2 on the morning line coming out of a

6250 race at Del Mar where nothing good happened, but did

run second prior to that in the LRC meet.

During the July meet here at LaSalle, a little bit better,

but does have 3 second place finishes in nine thoroughbred

runs this year. So five times hitting the board

in nine races. We drop into this $8000 level

again and I think that's a good spot for this horse.

You see at the 6250 level, a win at Del Mar at six furlongs and

so hopeful that this one will land in here.

So again, 4-3 and six for me in a race. 3 Barry, I'm doing all

the heavy lifting today. What are you doing?

7 horse on top for you, Bobby Anton, how about that?

We go like to what I like. Let's go.

Talk to me about. Let's go.

Oh, you are. Cannot hear you.

This is bad, Barry. You're killing me.

I can't hear you. This is bad for TV and radio

with YouTube and Twitter. Now things that's better.

Yeah, go ahead. Better.

Yeah, I don't know this, this race is very strange, which

usually happens. I have these really, really

lower or the lowest level of claiming that we have.

But I thought Bobby Anton ran some good races, especially at

Pleasanton. His recent work has been pretty

good. I see the blinkers going on.

Angio Aquino. She does well out there in night

time and this horse has some speed and I I I don't really

think there's a whole lot in here.

You know your horse, the you know Halo Uncle likes to more or

less come off the pace. Fly Tapper is.

You are cutting out again, buddy.

Goodness gracious. You are having some trouble

today. You know this never happens when

I see you on other shows. It's interesting, Barry, you

only do this to me. It's fascinating.

It's a fascinating turn of events here for Barry Beard.

Barry Spears, who is 7, three and two in this race.

Hopefully we will hear him again.

You are muted. If that is the thing, try again.

Don't mute it again, It's not working right now.

I'll walk through my other picks in this one as well.

I'm 4-3 and six here. Barry and I do have an overlap

there. That is not race 4.

It is race three that I need to be talking about it here.

So let me fix the graphic for that. 143 and 6 for me in here.

The three horse is Halo Uncle. The six horses, Allen's Conquest

an interesting one. This is a Ramirez Paladinius a

combination here and was last seen running in mixed company at

Locile but was a winner at 1000 yards, so hopefully a little bit

more distance here won't be too difficult.

The one was not ready for the $10,000 level at Del Mar.

I'm not going to hold that against the horse who does have

multiple wins over the Locile surface.

Simply put, just not in the LRC meets, but the horse does have

at the 6250 level a second place finish over 5 1/2 furlongs here

under Giovanni Franco. So hopefully with Ramirez here,

get a decent ride, get a good path and Ellen's Conquest can

make a run of it as well. Barry, if you are there, do you

want to make the case for meeking the two horse here?

Kazushi Kamara going for another riding title?

You're killing me Barry. I'm telling you, just take the

headphones off and just talking to your computer.

I'm telling you that is the better option today.

Unplug your bleep and move on with your life.

I'm just telling you we can't have the berries.

Boring play of the day. We can't go inside the mind of

Spears if we can't hear you. These are bad things.

We need to hear Barry Spears for going inside the mind of Spears.

Oh, man, that's what we're gonna do.

We'll move on to race 4 as Barry moves through his tech issues

and I pray to God he comes back for this one.

One of the more fun races on the car and I think frankly,

probably the feature at this point. 6 1/2 furlongs on the

dirt. It is a maiden special weight

for two year olds in here. There is 2 O'Neill's in here, a

Baffert in here, a Drysdale in here.

We get a Jeff Bondi in here, a Michael McCarthy in here.

I think a couple of Drysdale, those actually very, very

serious race in here. Like I said, 2 year olds going 6

1/2 for $45,000 in this one. Barry and I are very similar in

here. Again, we've got the same three

horses on top. Barry, go ahead and talk just so

to see if I can hear you there. Are you putting those darn

headphones on again? Because we're going to have a

problem. Put those headphones we're going

to have a problem. Poor Barry.

Let's just try it. I'll go ahead with my picks

here. It raised for the four horse is

track Tiger second time starter here for Doug O'Neill.

I'm going to take a chance on this one We saw on debut at Del

Mar at 5 1/2 furlongs and I I'm a largely going on the second

starter numbers for Doug O'Neill who hits at 13% here.

I like Kyle Frey keeping them out here.

I think that this horse you know keeps the blinkers you know a

son of sharp Azteca. I think the spreading distance

is is excuse yeah is not a big deal a problem for track Tiger

in this spot. And I just think getting out

there, you know, had to check was was difficult to load the

first time. Maybe we learned something the

first time out in the work. Most recently breaking from the

gate the last 4 * 5 * 6 times they're working this horse out

of the gate. So Doug O'Neill clearly saw the

issues on debut in the gate and is working this horse into the

gate as much as possible. So give me the four track Tiger,

a little bit of an upset here Barry, to go ahead and win this

one. I've got the 8 horse in the

second spot in Migo. Migo Breaks is the son of

Battolia for the Calumet folks. Eva Lozano gets the ride for

Doug O'Neill. Thought about putting this one

on top. Broke really well from the work

from the gate in a Work 2 back at Los Alamitos as well on

September 6th and this one's been working greatly.

If you just looked at the work tab, you would have assumed this

horse had a start already because he's been so, so good on

that work tab. And so look for Migo to get a

really good set up from the outside here.

I like that post just in case there is a slight break to the

right. Won't have too much of an issue

to make up there, especially since we go into that slight

right turn around the one turn there in a Sprint distance at

Los Alamitos. But Migo will come in second

spot for me. The second, excuse me, the son

of of Mottoli. Ironically, I do have the two

Doug O'Neill starters on top in this 1 and in this in the soup

hole here will be Rhodes breaking for Bob Baffert.

This is just trusting that Baffert's worked out the kinks

with this horse who was not good on debut.

Ran 6 out of 10 starters that day.

To the credit of the betters that day, the horse was nowhere

near favoritism. The horse was 13 or almost 14 to

one on the line and so makes sense to me that this son of

Uncle MO would need a little bit of time here.

The horse ran at the beginning of September.

Completely different approach from Bob Baffert.

Thrown this one right back in it.

No recorded works. Let's just get back out there

with this one. Don't give them, you know, don't

give this horse, don't give Rhodes too much time to think

about it. Throw them right back out there.

So I think that quick turn around on that amount of time is

what stood out to me with this horse on two weeks rest.

I I think this horse ran on a Sunday.

We're running on back on a Saturday.

It's going to be 13 days rest for Bob Baffert, who obviously

with goal oriented who will be in the Pennsylvania Derby, did

that over Derby weekend. But man, interesting to see this

one back that quickly. So I landed a four, eight and

two in here, which means, of course, I left bust out.

And that is a first timer for Michael McCarthy and Kazushi

Kimura. So if you're wondering why I did

that, it Simply put, Michael McCarthy's debut numbers,

they're not good. Frankly, they're surprisingly

not good. Four for his last 99.

There's a chance by the end of the weekend he'll be under 4%

with first time starters. And so I'm just just not what he

does, not what he does. Obviously he won the Preakness

this year on the ask of this year.

Michael McCarthy obviously knows what he's doing, but in this

case, Simply put, he doesn't do it with first time starters.

Will closeout the early pick five with Race 5 and that is a

maiden 12/5 on the dirt course. Of course the only course they

have at Los Alamitos, 6 furlongs.

They are sprinting here for $15,000 and Barry and I landed

on 2 similar horses but one different one.

I have a very different horse on top here.

The Ted is a second time starter out of the Sheldon Paul,

Donnie's Bar and Edgar Pailleras who made us a ton of money last

week with a $40 plus winner on this show.

Gets the ride on Bet the Ohm and we remember Almond Joy a couple

of weeks ago. Goes ahead and wins at Del Mar

in their big states race that day.

What am I blanking on the name of that?

I apologize for that, but we're seeing the ohms pop up a little

bit, especially in the cowbread ranks.

That one was an open company. This one back in the cowbread

ranks here. This is one that tried Los Al

first. So it looks like a first timer

on the on the outside, but frankly this is 1 getting a

second start. I like that experience and I

like the fat that the horse did finish a good second and passed

other horses to do it, kept the spot there.

We're throwing the blinkers on and trying that.

I don't hate the idea. It's not a great angle.

Out of that barn, but I really don't care.

One for 25 this year in the thoroughbred rank.

So maybe we'll even get better than six to one on that horse.

I'm looking to the outside. That's my upset of the early

pick. 5 is the 10 horse on the outside, six to one on the

morning line in this one. Then I went to the inside rail

here for T and off. This is a likely favorite here,

9:00 to 5:00 on the line. Last race here at Los AL, just

this last weekend. Edwin Maldonado got it.

And so no workouts here. We're just getting back on the

track and I don't hate that approach.

Horse was just a stayer last time.

Hopeful that Kazushi can get this horse push through for

Steve Knapp, who's over 9 at this meet, but did have five

horses hit the board in those nine runs.

So maybe T and Off can join that group, but actually put a one in

that first column for him. We'll try to bring Barry back

in. I'll try to do that.

He's smiling, he's muted. It's all kinds of good things.

We're on Race 5, Barry. I've been working by myself.

It's it's it's almost like I'd make a joke, but I'm not going

to make a joke. Are you back?

I can hear you OK. I can hear you OK.

There you go. I'm going to keep talking about

Race 5, even though you're supposed to be because it's an

odd numbered race and you're an odd man.

The four far overloaded has started a lot.

It'll be 15 runs already for this horse who is including a

maiden 12/5. Like this 7th place finish a

couple of races ago, but this horse was considerably better.

Last out at Delmar, running third, had the lead in the

stretch. Almost was ineligible for this

race by winning. Abby gets back on here in this

spot. I think the horse just simply

fits Barry. So I landed 10-1 and four in

race A5. You landed 41 and a six.

I have talked about all those other horses.

Go ahead though, talk. Tell us how far overloaded since

I have that one lower in my rankings.

A leader. Yeah, I just think this horse

might, you know, there's not much speed in here.

And I, I think this horse is going to be forwardly placed.

The outside horse. I I mean, the outside horse,

King Zogg is coming off a a serious layoff and likes to

finish second a lot. So even if that one does get in

front, I still think the four can sit and finish and that

might make all the difference. 8:00 to 1:00, I'll take it every

time. Yeah, I'm I I landed on bet the

ALM on the outside, the 10 horse here, Barry, which I think

coming out of that Los Al start will be able to translate that

into a better run here. You have that four on top, but

you do have the six in your handicapping as well in Sur Zo

Serafine Camaro gets right here for Ruben Gomez.

What do you like about that? And what amounts to be kind of a

dart throw in this race, the whole race is kind of a dark

throw. But I agree this one was in a

maiden special weight. A restrictive one at Delmar was

way outside. The comment in the form says 4

to 6 wide moved in the stretch didn't run as poorly as as it

actually looks on paper. And I think dropping back into

this company after that first run where the horse just didn't

really get off well, get out of the gate well and kind of came

running. I I think the horse can improve

off of that and be real competitive at this spot. 12 to

one. I'll take that too.

That was Race 5. We moved to the second-half of

the card here, $1.00 Pick 3 available to you in a race of 6.

Barry's picks for race 5 Off the screen.

There We Go is a $10,000 starter allowance.

I like this race a lot, Barry. 5 1/2 on the dirt here, $80,000 on

the line here for these horses. I thought this was an

interesting field and since I've been carrying the weight of this

show for the last couple of races, Barry, we will throw to

you in a rare, even numbered race.

Barry goes 1st edition of Socalcitis.

You landed on the four horse here, as did I.

We have the same three horses again, Barry I Why?

I'm very close to having to just box up all of our picks

inexactus and just just letting it, just seeing where it comes

at the end of the day, see what happens here.

But you and I both landed in this race on the four horse.

What do we like about Atomic Drop?

There's a lot to like because there's really another one with

not much speed, and this horse has the most.

I mean, there's another horse on the outside, Gunnar for Gold,

the 8 who's coming from Emerald where they really don't

translate to the Southern California circuit.

They rarely do. And and it depends on what

level. Gunner for Gold clearly isn't at

that level. Ran 10,009 orders of three last

time when he got claimed and and was way, way, way, way, way way

back. So I expect the four to be on

the lead and take this field wire to wire.

There's not much in here form wise that some horses coming off

claims, but it doesn't they don't look real tough and and I

I think atomic drop might get the drop on them and take this

one. Yeah, obviously lost to the

seven out here at Del Mar. Last out.

I'm just flipping on them. Going 479 here, Barry, with my

picks in this spot. You at 497.

I'll talk about El Diablo Rojo, the old Red Devil.

That's what they call the that's what they call the soccer team

from the the country of my family's origin.

There you go, Belgium. There you go, Barry.

No one's no one's proud of that. By the way, this is a horse

that's been at this kind of level one last out at in a in a

starter allowance before that did win in an optional claimer

Lone Star as well in a race that was taken off the turf.

And so this one has got to stay on the dirt.

This is a horse's 54th start. Man what a cool horse looking

for his eighth win in his career after winning two of his last

three man and so very very cool Ricardo Gonzales get some out

here for Sean Williams and excited to see him on the

weekend night time comes in David Cohen riding at Los Al

things I'd never thought I'd say what it like shout out couple

years ago after the Derby gosh I forget which one we were at a

party the day after the Derby and it was at someone's farm and

David was there OK and David gave a riding lesson to my kid

the day after a while yeah that's pretty cool stuff man

that's pretty cool stuff so shout out Dave I'll be a friend

of a fan of David's forever he's very very kind of my family that

day for sure but he's aboard night time.

What do we like about night time Besides a lot of things, I.

Didn't hear you. I think the trainers can you

hear? Me.

Yes, hear. Me.

You can hear me all right, so yeah, night time trying to

capitalize the the the trainer is trying to capitalize on some

some good maneuvering here. Waited for the source to get

down to 10,000 claim this horse put in the starter allowance

where the source certainly fits and oh, this horse is probably

going to be tough in this spot. I I mean, it's really a toss up

between the three horses that we picked, but obviously I'm always

going to go with the longer price, yeah.

Jesus Araga trains here. He and David Cohen have no

history together as jockey. Trainer David Cohen O for five

hitting the board at all in his first five rides in this meet at

Los Alamitos. We've moved to Race 7, which is

of course the start of the late Pick 4.

If you are new to Los Alamitos, this is a $1.00 pick for

minimum. So get in with those races.

Very, very fun sequence to close the card here Barry.

We start with a mile race on the dirt there.

State bred optional claimer for 20K.

This is for not 2 lifers, essentially two at a certain

level. Of course you can read the

conditions if you care. Mr. Disrespectful, the 9 on the

outside here. Barry will be the morning line

favorite. It is time to put up everybody's

least favorite graphic of the day.

It's time for Barry's boring play the day.

Yeah, I had to. I had.

I slept walk through this one for sure.

No getting. Mr. Disrespectful is is once

again going to disrespect. Oh, you're muted.

Hang on, hang on, hang on. What causes that?

By the way? Do you have a bad computer?

Is it like a body odor thing? Like what causes you to go on?

Got it. OK.

I have no idea, just drop them off, but Mr. was going to.

Spec the whole. Field here and go wire to wire

once again. Nobody can touch this horse in

this race and and it's it's just going to be the boring play of

the day with Druidic second. I mean, we're calling it right

now. Not that it's or leap or or

something phenomenal, but it looks like a chalky exacta to

me. All right.

Only good news is we got nine horses.

What do you think the exacta pays?

I'm going to go $5.60 to one. I think it's going to be lower

than that. I'm going to go 480.

Where did the $0.80 go? All right, there you go.

So there you go, We lost. We lost our good exacta there.

You and I are very boring here in race 7.

I agree. The nine on top here, we're also

the same on five second. I landed on the three third.

Barry. I actually remember looking at

this race and thinking I want to talk about this horse.

So this is one. This is one that's interesting

to me, Barry, because this is 1. We see this is a Peter Miller

classic, right? Want to talk me into this horse

to finish third? Lots of different surfaces and

different things, but this horse goes a mile all the time.

And so this is one that we saw at LRC.

What did this horse do in state company in a maiden special way?

Win over this course in a minute 37.

That's a pretty normal time over the mile course at Los Alamitos.

And so I think we're getting back to dirt here.

This is one that's one for three.

That one was at Los Allen. Love that we're getting back

there. And I think Sonia Divino is not

just I should put this horse second in my handicap.

I actually like this horse quite a bit.

And so we're going to remove the Delmar form because it's Barry.

How often did we see horses go from Los Altos Del Mar?

Not like it, right. And then come back to the Los

Altos. They're just fine.

I think Sonya Devino's one of those.

That's fair. Yeah.

OK. You laid it on the 6th horse in

here in Cardiff. Crack.

Barry. Can you tell me where Cardiff

is? Ireland.

Oh, that's so good. That's so close.

We're looking for whales. All right, keep going.

Yes, OK. Same set of islands.

They're very close to one. I've taken a ferry from Cardiff

to Dublin. How about that?

There you go. There you go.

Well, ferry talk right? Every week is ferry talk, but

Cardiff Crack this horse likes to launch from way back and Mr.

Disrespectful is really really, really fast and I think

everybody's chasing and Carter cracked and clunk up for 3rd at

a big price. Billy, Anton, Georgie, let's go.

Let's. Go, Billy.

Yeah, yeah. Upset winner last week. 95 and 6

for Barry here in Race 7. I landed 95 and 3 in this one.

This was Barry's boring Play of the Day presented by Amwager, as

is this entire episode, by the way, of amwager.com.

Get in with them right now. Of course, that $150.00 match up

to $150.00, a 100% match with your first deposit with our

friends at Amway July in California.

Bet all of the LaSalle, Santa Anita, Del Mar action with them

today. Maiden 30 in race 8 helps us

start the late pick three, $23,000 on the line.

We're going 6 furlongs here. Barry to kick off this pick 3.

Again, $1.00 minimum on the pick threes.

I think my favorite play at LaSalle and I don't know that

it's close, Barry, is the $1.00 pick threes.

I think they always they're always, they always pay fair and

I think there are a lot of people, smart batters who are in

those pools. So if you have an angle that you

think is a little bit off the beaten off the beat path, I

think you really get paid at LaSalle even number race, even

though I've been doing all the heavy lifting in here, I will go

first. I laid it.

On you're so nice and. I'm going to go viral with the

one horse going viral, the sound of Marcia Stewart's power and

shout out to Marcia. And we also we get Herrera

aboard here. This is one that we saw at Del

Mar the last two times they tried them in one of those

restricted maiden races that you mentioned sprinting on the dirt,

and that was a very bizarre race.

Horse didn't finish a decent third.

Before that, though, back here at Los Ale in A-125 race, the

horse finished second and that was with Kazushi Kimura and I

thought that that form at 1:11 and change could win this race,

Barry. So I'm essentially hoping that

we get that horse that we had three back because even though

this is the 30 level, I think that time and that pace can win

in this spot. The the bad news is there might

be other horses in here that are just a little bit faster,

including the three horse Grinnell who comes out of a

maiden 32 at Del Mar where he finished third.

Son of a coma, I think a serious contender here.

Ricardo Gonzalez keeps the mount here for Carla Gaines.

She picks off these kinds of races a lot, 18% second off

these kinds of layoffs as well. I think she'll be ready for this

one. I lay on the 2 horse Uncle Evco

here as well. Ran really well at Los Al last

time. Just missed my nose under Tiago

Prayer. Armando Aliuso picks up the

mount here. He's over 9 at Los Al this meet

so far, but has hit the board three of those nine runs.

Hopeful that he'll be a little bit better with this one.

And so I went 132. It'll be a load number to as

load number as trifecta as you can pick out here, but you laid

it 4-1 and three warm hearted first timer for you.

Yeah, this horse is 1/2 the cordiality who banked 634K

total. Nice.

Not necessarily a precocious horse and and also a turf runner

of note, but there's some precociousness in this family.

So I I think the Munnings line can do either or, you know, turf

or dirt. They the horses run pretty good

on either surface. Has a couple of good works of

note. August 2nd at Los Al 47 and two

handling from the gate, almost a bullet.

And then August 22nd, 20 days later, one minute handling from

the gate, which I love that work, especially where it's

placed in conjunction with the others.

And the first time starter flying a little bit under the

radar from an outfit that doesn't really run a lot of

horses period or at this circuit.

So I think we're doing some good things here.

This horse flying a little bit below the radar, 6 to 1 seems

reasonable and I think we're going to get it.

One thing to note about going viral, I think that horse is

really well meant because there really was no reason for them to

run in that one mile turf race last time.

Yeah, I think they just wanted to get the race.

Yeah, Horse showed up too. Right to to go into this one.

I think this was the goal because you can see when they

claimed the horse, they claimed the horse with 12 five right?

This is 30,000. This is still a step up.

I I mean, you know, the, the going to 60 sixty 2500 for a

turf race, it didn't really make sense in the scheme of things.

So it makes more sense to be here at this point after doing

that. So I think going viral is very

well met in the spot. Barry again, 413 and race 8.

I went 1-3 and two in this spot. We agree on going viral.

Barry though adding the four horse on top here in warm

hearted. By the way, James Glenn Junior,

if you are watching, if your horse wins that race, we'd love

to have you next week on SoCal side race.

Let's get it. Done.

Yeah, let's do it. Fantastic to have you on Race 9.

We'll start the late double there at Los Alamitos as well,

$2.00 double. There's no show wagering in the

Dark Mirage. Hold a while.

Who is dark? Mirage You know what, Barry?

This is a good job. I.

Should have looked it up. That's my phone.

Oh, I thought you knew. Nope.

You set up both of us. That's a bad job, that.

OK. That was, yeah.

Meet up. That's a good job.

You set both of us up. That's a bad job.

OK, that was like an NWO move from wrestling, right?

There, you know what it is? It's you threw me against the

ropes and then I came back and we clunked heads and we both

fell over, right? That's what knocked out.

There you go. All right, that's as good as I'm

going to do with a wrestling reference.

Mile on the dirt, 100,000, a $100,000 on the line for

Phillies and mares 3 and up. Let's just go through the field

here, Barry. There's only six horses and kind

of walk through it. You, I'll be honest, like I

don't even have a pick on the sheet.

I don't have a strong feeling about this race so I'm kind of

warning everyone because there's a horse in here who should win

Barry who should and the morning line makers correct about which

horse that is. But that horse has also lost its

last two races by 20 plus legs combined.

OK, so we're gonna get there. Let's start with the one horse

here Barry that is get the money.

We would like to do that tomorrow other days right away.

You so rides for Brian corner. I love this horse in this spot.

I think I do. I think this is when you talk

about the horses that are good down the hill.

Barry often I I find them to also be very good at locile.

It seems to be something that translates something about that

surface going down the hill, crossing the dirt, whatever you

got to do all the things they seem to work out at locile 6 1/2

thousand going a mile. And I I think this one's

interesting. I don't think it's here by

accident with Brian Corner. I just, I simply don't.

The longest this horse has gone is a mile on a 16th on the turf.

We're getting to the dirt here where the horses hit the board

half this time, running three out of six times.

I don't know. I, I think that this feels like

a Barry Spears kind of play to me where I just have a feeling

that this one makes sense that Brian Corner knows what he's

doing. Armando is going to give this

one a chance. I like it in the spot.

I don't know that that she wins, but I, I, I like the idea.

At least I like the concept. Yeah, I can understand what

you're doing here. I the only thing that I have

reservations on a is the price. Seven to two I would.

I agree with that. I don't get it.

Yeah. Because of the fact that this

horse really. Never done this.

You don't know what this horse is going to do with a mile.

I agree. So I mean, maybe the market will

correct itself and and raise that price up.

And then that even makes this horse a little even more

interesting because you know the horse has the talent to win

races like this. It's just a matter of the the

surface and the distance. So you want to get paid on that

notion. 7 to 2 is hard to take, but if this horse floats up to

six to one I might be apartment to dip in, especially with the

way the rest of the field looks. The next horse is a horse named

Ooty Ooty. And I got to ask you, Barry,

OOTD amongst the Youngs means outfit of the day.

Is there any chance UDI means outfit of the year?

Like like someone just put on a dress or something.

And she was like, boom, this is the best I'm going to look all

year, outfit in the year. And the husband was like, that's

the name of the horse. I don't know.

Is that what happened here? I don't know.

I'm asking questions. I don't know or.

I looked it up as well. Every other meaning of UDI is

from a different language. And so I it like apparently like

it's a Tamil word like southern India, like I don't need that in

my life. But like, you know, the, I don't

know, Argentine, Brad, that's not.

Version sans a bee. We'd have a different sort of

conversation here. Is this naughty by nature's

personal horse? Go ahead and text the show.

I Udi comes in. Bob Baffert trains.

He's got 2 in this race. This one's 9:00 to 2:00.

Very. I, I don't, I don't, I don't.

What does this horse do well? I'm trying to figure it out.

Why? What does this horse do well?

What does she do well? I think amongst you trying to

figure that out, I think everybody else is trying to

figure that out. All right, fair enough.

OK, still a little better. Yeah, I mean, would I be

surprised if if Ooty minus the B lost I mean one?

No, because the last two races. Wait a minute, wouldn't that be

booty minus the B? Not booty minus the B because

there's no B and Ooty. Right.

OK, so it's booty minus the B, booty minus the BI.

Keep going. Yeah, thank God I'm not a

comedian, huh? But anyway, Splendora just runs

off every time. This horse ran a good second.

You know what? That's fair, yes.

So I mean, it's not far fetched. I'm signing against I, I just

don't know what to do with this horse and I, I actually don't

really even know what price this horse is going to be at post

time. Nothing like you'll break from

the three. The obvious favorite here,

Hernandez and Baffert. That's a name we know.

Ridiculously, they are 8 for their last 14 at LaSalle.

This horse has been working on the turf.

This horse has been working in the bottom half of horses.

At Santa Anita, this horse lost by 10 and 1/4 lengths in a

restricted stakes. Last out at Del Mar, this horse

lost by 11 lengths in the Hirsch.

This horse lost by 14 lengths in the Zenyatta.

This horse lost by 5 lengths in the Torrey Pines, 9 lengths in

the Summer Oaks. Barry.

This horse since that that Santa Anita Oaks win in April of last

year, has never been closer than 5 lengths.

She's the favorite here. She a worthy favorite, Yes.

Just because of the fact she was running against the the horses

she was running against. And if you believe in buyers,

she actually improved off, you know, from three to four.

Her first two races this year are faster than any of her races

last year. They don't look good on paper,

but they're faster and much faster than everybody else.

And that's why this horse is going to be tough, you know, can

has the versatility to be on the lead or slightly off it faster

than most of these horses. So it's kind of this is like the

Bob Baffert telling everybody out in California that I can

drop horses like this into a stake race and still be better

than everybody else. And, and, and that's exactly

what he's doing here. You know, this horse that that's

Santa Anita Oaks was was actually a really good race by

this horse. Oh, she was.

She was excellent, of course. Yeah, I wonder what happened.

We were all so disappointed that she didn't come for the Kentucky

Oaks. I'm not kidding.

I remember that right. Yeah.

Because she. She.

She dominated that. She's been out a year, yeah.

And she she handled Kinza in that race, too.

And Kinza was the bus horse on the West Coast at that time.

Oh yeah. Absolutely, yeah.

Oh yeah, man, Kinza handled her the the time before that.

And Kopian, yeah, so I know. I mean, she, she can run.

It doesn't look good on paper, but she can run and, and I, I

don't expect her, not in this spot, especially Juan Hernandez,

Bored. It's not an accident.

Automatic. It's like a layup man.

Yeah. He's he hasn't been aboard since

that Zenyatta last year, but was aboard for the wins in the

Starlet and the Desi Ardez last year both at Del Mar.

And then the of course, the Starlet is that Los app.

That's their big Philly race for two year olds at the end of the

year. And so we'll certainly be

talking about that one later on in the calendar.

Sagura blossom breaks from the four here.

Daniel Herrera for Leonard Powell.

This is one that we saw at at a mile at 3 eighth of the turf

last out and wasn't bad horses winless this year.

Barry has been running in I I don't even could you imagine

being this horse. And then they show up at Santa

Anita in May and they're like, hey buddy, guess what?

Mile and 1/2 on the turf today and you're like cool, OK, no

problem. And then June rolls around and

they they should be to Cyprus and you show up in La Salle,

they're like, all right, buddy, 6 1/2 on the dirt.

And they should be to San Diego and you're at Del Mar.

They're like, thanks for finishing fifth by 8 1/2 lengths

on the dirt in a Sprint. You're going to run a mile and

3/8 on the turf in a stake. Now, I'll put it this way, I

have no idea to do what to do with this horse.

Way more starts on the turf than on the dirt.

But this horse is 3 for six on the dirt.

So maybe getting back to dirt is what this horse absolutely

needs. What do we do with this one,

Barry? Not impossible.

I agree with you that Arizona Oaks last year that I don't

know. I don't know what to do with

this one. There's a lot of suspect form in

here like we've been noting, and if that so happens to fall

apart. Right.

This horse seems to be in decent form despite, you know, the the

moving around and the different distances and such.

My only thing is I don't like the cutback first time from a

mile and 3/8 to a mile surface really doesn't matter.

But that cutback is always, you know, that first time.

They're really slow out of the gate it seems.

And you know that race in particular, that this horse is

coming out of Alpha Bella. She kind of had her way with it

up front. So you could actually throw a

line through that race if you really want to and say that this

horse could actually run a little bit better than that.

And I think the dirt might make all the difference.

I'd give this horse a shot. Well, I I agree there's

something about it visually. Will break from the five Kyle

Frey libretto libretto Borosio. Excuse me trains this one who's

been running on the turf as well.

You and I very unoffended by turf this one trying the dirt

for the first time ever though. Great news for those of you who

want to bet this horse Lobracio hits a 28% going from turf to

dirt, so he certainly knows how to switch the surfaces here with

his different horses. Has been working this one on the

dirt as well. Unimpressed by the works myself.

Visually to me, would this be the most surprising winner of

the race? Yes.

Yeah, cuz double cappuccino's one at the distance on the

surface. Yeah it would.

Visually would be the most surprising winner.

Is that fair? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

He's a conker. He, he, he, he's a clunker.

Try to suck up and and get a piece of this.

I I don't think he's a a threat to win, but he could show up in

the picture somewhere. Yeah, 4 times running this year

has hit the board twice has made 25 grand.

I mean, I, I yeah, all right. She's she's there at least the

daughter of enticed and I can't remember the last time I said

that. I might have never said that

before. Double cappuccino breaks from

the outside. The daughter of gun runner.

I've said that a lot for Edwin Alvarez.

How about that? She comes in here out of an

optional claimer sprinting on the turf.

Before that, though, broke her maiden going a mile on the dirt

at Santa Anita. What do you think of her here?

I think 20 to 1. I would flip the five and the

six here. Yeah, I like her a lot in In the

Spot, even more so at 20 to 1, because I think she can she can

now finish most of these horses. Not really sure why they keep

running this horse on the turf. I know they they ran good that

one time April 6th and almost won funny enough.

But after that and before that, it was just like, yeah, no thank

you. Dropped down to 20, got the win,

comes back off the layoff at a really high level.

I I think they were just trying to get a race in, but is it

impossible in a spot like this? Especially with the speed

challenge field, this horse could actually get a decent trip

and and kind of make an appearance hopefully in second

place. Yeah, no kidding.

This one, by the way, isn't every other type.

SO4 races ago this horse almost won a maiden 50,000 going a mile

on the turf. Then we went back to the mile,

but on the dirt at the maiden 20 level out of the Ripoli stable.

Obviously the Rosales folks have bought this horse.

I claimed this horse out of that race.

Excuse me, where she won and then they tried her back on the

turns again, which is where, you know, where Michael McCarthy had

her running. But man, this one before started

her career on the dirt in the Fletcher barn.

We're out West now. I this is the one.

I'm with you, buddy. Like if you were going to get

real aggressive and wanted to play some kind of cold trifecta

or something, maybe you put the three on top, you pick your

horse in second, maybe it's double cappuccino, right?

And then maybe that's the way that you try to maximize this

race, make a lot of money, because maybe she's the one who

pays the pieces. I'm down for the three six

exacta cold. OK, I don't hate that either,

actually. Yeah, because that one's going

to pay. That's a double digit kind of

pay to one. Yeah, for.

Sure, yeah, I I mean, but The thing is, it's a small field.

But you might get 8 to 10/8, 8:10 to 1:00.

Yeah, and, and it'll work. That'll still work, especially

to keep you in action. You might even come out ahead if

you if you do it right. But.

And also, by the way, watch the pools.

She might be a good play show bet.

She might be a good play show bet.

Actually, there's no show bet. She might be a good place bet.

She might be a good place bet. Place bet.

Place bet. Yeah, But she, you know, if this

was a bigger field, I would have, I wouldn't want to touch

her at all. But since there's only five

other horses, she could work out a trip and she's not going to be

overmatched here. She's probably at least as at

least on paper, I would think is as good as the Mystery horse and

Ooty. Poor Ooty's never no show ever.

We'll talk as much Ooty as this show, Just.

Did and yes, outfit of the year is correct.

Who did you? How did you?

What did you? Who told you what?

What research did you? Got it.

Thank you. I know the Youngs.

How about that? What's up?

Yeah. Yeah, outfit of the.

Year. But oh, Breezy, you tell Breezy

what's up. All right, so maiden's funny to

close the card here. Race 10, cross country.

Practice. Oh, about.

That my my kids got a cross country meet tonight.

It's a good it's a great sport man.

It really is Maiden clamor here $20,000 maiden price, $20,000

purse. We're going 5 furlongs.

This is a four two year olds and we're in the Cal bread ranks

here, Mr. Pippins, 9:00 to 5:00 on the inside Stanford drop out,

which is spectacular name for a Cal bread is the five horse.

He'll be 7 to 5. I landed, I can't believe it,

but I landed on, believe it or not, a seven to five horse.

Louie's boring play of the day, if you will, but we'll go to

Barry here. You mind of Louie, mind of Louie

on one happy dude, which if I had to describe Barry Spears it,

it would be it would be Udi. All right now I'm just kidding.

You hit, you hit 75 at that. Here, tell us about 7 horse.

Yeah, I'm trying to, you know, this is a.

Pretty good sale. Out bet this.

Is creativity, but I like it, man.

Steve Knapp, dude, let's go. Yeah, yeah.

I mean, he's getting a horse from Andy Mathis that didn't get

a good run. The time before that, the horse

was way out wide and dropping in from 50 down to 20, albeit not

really with a caveat. I was going to say with a

caveat, but not this horse. Didn't really get good trips

right? Gets to the new barn.

Who's actually doing well in general, just not at La Salle.

Not yet. I'd give this one a shot.

This this race is wide open to be honest with you.

Steve, that first time when his barn hit at 20%, so very 75 and

10 in this spot. I clicked off the wrong thing

there. I landed on the favorite in the

seven here. Excuse me in the five here.

I went 5-1 as my top 2. Stanford drop out on top here

going back to that race 2 back at at Del Mar over 5 furlongs to

go 5 1/2 last out. Finished a good third.

Little bit too quick out of the gate.

I'm hoping that that won't matter in this company and that

the horse can just keep the can keep the can keep the lead in

this one. Pardon me.

My goodness. And then I went with the 8 horse

Grey Tiger Barry. I got a 20 to one shot here.

And not only do I think this is a good play, I think this horse

can win. Hear me out.

What's up? Jesus Mendoza, I need you.

Come on. Montes gets the mount here.

OK, so the bug boy gets the mount here.

We're dropping from the 32 level to the 20 level.

And while Mirko Demaro has mounts here, we have made a

decision has Dale Brewer, the owner, to move to a new jockey.

There's a horse that just had a bullet work where at LaSalle

before that 35 and change from the gate at LaSalle.

So I am hopeful that these works that I'm seeing that are at

LaSalle are representative of how the horse is going to run

coming up here. And so turn, turn it around, get

it going again. That most recent work here in

September, I think is really helpful. 20 to 1, I will take

that all day. Asana Smiling Tiger, we see

those run really well all the time in these kind of Cal bread

races, Barry. So 518 for me, really hopeful

the eight hits the board here. Yeah, why not?

I mean, isn't Barantis kind of he?

He rides for that outfit, doesn't he?

He does quite a bit and frankly, he's already hit the board 4 out

of seven runs there at Los Alley.

He's he's, he's coming along, man.

He's turning into someone you got to watch in Southern

California for. Sure.

Well, it's just very interesting the maneuver here going from the

open maiden to this restricted state bred maiden after having a

kind of rough trip 20 to one. You probably get more than that

and this horse has a better chance than that for sure for.

Sure. Oh, goodness.

Yes. Yeah, No, 21 value. 20 to 1 is

absolute value. He's probably an 8 to one, nine

to one kind of horse. In this field, yeah.

I mean, it's true odds, right? True odds.

You can find those@amwagerandamwager.com.

Barry, you went 75 and tended here.

What do you like about Chase and Ryan?

Just kind of the best of the rest.

Little drop back down, you know the horse came out.

I love the start of his last race.

I remember watching that one because we handicapped it on

this show. Yeah, he flew out of the gate,

which may spell some improvement.

And the the slight drop might make the difference too.

Get this horse in the in the number.

There you go. All right, that'll be a wrap on

our most most recent edition. This one.

It it was. It was we didn't get to go

inside the mind of Spears, which I'm, I'm kind of OK with.

I wanted to ask you as a dad. You should be OK with that I.

Want to ask you as a dad though, so we do go inside the mind of

Spears here. 13 year old son. Tomorrow tailgate and football

game at U of L at Louisville. OK.

Over to Churchill for a couple stakes races and then we have a

essentially AAA level soccer team here and we would go to the

soccer game at the end of the day, a little triple header.

I think that's dinner in between.

That's a baller Father Sunday, is it not?

Yeah, yeah, You're taking me. What?

What time is it? Dude this would be awesome.

OK, also, by the way, I want to by the way, and and Barry's hung

out with me enough. He knows this about me.

I'm a I'm a gratitude guy. I'm way into gratitude.

Last week I got to interview and people that are watching the

show will know the name Steve Coffin and that was awesome and

getting to hear the stories about 1978 and certainly his

career since then and all those things.

Just awesome, man. Yesterday I got to interview

Eddie George won the 1995 Heisman Trophy.

He coaches Bowling Green now. They'll be down here tomorrow

for that game. And Barry, literally within a

span of 10 days, I interviewed a Triple Crown winner and Heisman

winner. And that's just I mean, for what

I do, that's as cool as it gets, man.

It really is. And I just, I'm, I sound like

I've got a ton of energy. There's a reason, bro.

So. I know you, so that that makes

me. Yeah, we all got it, dude.

Good job, man. Look, and then I hang out with

you today. I had Jesse on this morning.

Just back at Who's Spectacular? My gosh, she's radio Guess she's

unbelievable. And then I talked to Kardak

yesterday. I'm just having so much damn

fun, Barry. So thanks for being part of the

man he was. Showing up everywhere yesterday.

He was a busy man. I think he's excited about the

PA Derby. He loves it.

Yeah. Do you know what happened?

That man gave out Ceiling crusher.

And I know my man Kornacki. He's capable of crushing bets,

too. Oh.

Boy, I'm sure he did. Stealing Crusher paid some

bills. I'm just gonna say, yeah, that's

all, my man. Like Sparks.

That is what it is. Yeah, that's what it is.

Oh, man. What else?

Who do you got? The Pennsylvania Derby.

We haven't even done that. By as it stands out to me.

I agree, I think he does. I think the Baffert horse in

there is really interesting man and I don't know what to do

about it. I think that he's going to give

them goal oriented, is going to give them all kinds of trouble.

I think the move to IRATA is a really good one for that camp as

well. You got a long shot in there.

You like Jessica said she thinks happening Happy delusional hits

the board. Love it.

Fan. Gozger's my horse though, by the

way. In any other in any other year,

dude, if we saw this Pennsylvania Derby wound

Godscar. Owes you money actually, to be

honest. Hey, you should pound this

exacta once again. The steward's owe me money in

Maryland. All right, so that's all we got

today. We'll be back next week, said a

neat edition of the Horse Racing Happy Hour and of course, SoCal

Saturday's presented by AM Wager.

He's very. I'm Louie.

We'll see you then, Moody.
