Full Transcript
On Sunday, Dan We did this recently, but here are the
purses at on Sunday at Ellis Park 74K70K70K70 K 151515251
hundred and 150. The times they are a change in
Dan the. Old pee patch ain't no more.
There you go. Get out of the way tofu.
It's time for real purses. And Speaking of real purses, we
bring in our guy, Kevin Kilroy. Are you wearing a hat, Kevin?
It's not a purse. It's a satchel.
I call it a satchel. It's a man purse Louie.
It's immerse at Trust your luck on X Twitter or whatever the
thing's called out of the days. First Gen.
Sports 1stgensports.com hanging out with Kevin Kilroy in our
usual spot presented by the Kentucky HBPA.
As I referenced on Tuesday, they will be sponsoring our show is
out there at Blindsquil. If you're coming out for lunch,
come say hi to me. It is Kentucky Downs, the second
annual Kentucky Downs Preview Day out there at Blindsquil.
You can hang out with me 11:50, I think they open at 11:00 if
I'm remembering correctly. And then Bobby V after me noon
to three. So if you want to come hang out
and talk horses, I will hang out afternoon with you out there,
Kevin. We've got a fun weekend between
Colonial and Saratoga. It is Dan's opinion that this is
a very, very good landing spot for the Arlington Million, that
turf course just South of Richmond.
Where do you fall on that? Do you think it's a good spot
for them? Yeah I love, I love cono downs.
You know it's it's a meet that I fall pretty closely when it was
Monday through Wednesday. Just haven't had the head space
to do it as much this year. But, you know, I think it's a
great spot. You know that that hits.
You know, I'm sure it does for you too, Dan.
You know, it's an emotional deal.
Arlington was the first track I ever went to and I was there
when duly called the Pizza Man and other great Arlington
millions. You know, I even even met Aiden
O'Brien, got to talk to him one time about all the success he's
had it at Arlington. You know it's just, it's just
one of those deals that. No matter where it goes, it's
going to be tough. I like that they're keeping it
alive because otherwise we're just going to forget about it.
So at least maybe we we we moan about it for a second, but we
get to keep it going forward and that's that's fantastic.
Yeah, I you know that that's what I said earlier that you
know that it's a shame that a beautiful track like Arlington
no longer exists. Because it's one of the
prettiest tracks I I I think the New Arlington, one of the
prettiest tracks in the country. But let's be, let's be honest,
you know, thoroughbred horse racing in Illinois, because they
don't get to participate. The tracks don't participate or
haven't at least up until now. I guess Hawthorne's going to put
a casino in, but you know they haven't, they haven't been able
to share. In any of the casino revenue and
so you know that let's not forget you know the the
Arlington million was down to what 5 or 600,000 a couple years
ago. So I I'm, I'm glad it it's still
the million and. Yeah.
I've never been to Colonial Downs, obviously you have.
Tell us about that track. Oh no, no.
I actually never been there. Just watch it from my home TB,
you know, just just bend it from my computer and screens and all
that. I've never been out there.
I'd love to go out there. Kevin Kelroy with us here on
this one. We will take you up until new on
ESP AT-681-O57. We're talking the races this
weekend. Let's go to Colonial there
Kevin, Are you more of a individual race player or do you
like a a longer multi race ticket?
I like the multi race sequence. I think.
I think I'm one of my my skill sets is identifying horses that
can win. You know, they have to have a
shot to to get it done, you know, beyond the favorite.
And that's one of my deals that I love, you know?
Kicking off favorites and so I like to take advantage of that
with multi race deals. So Speaking of you got to talk
about Deedia right. That's a single for me.
They're in the Beverly D she's she's just as as good as as they
come and and you know her coming out party was Clint O Downs last
year for Nacho Correas. She'll be she'll be ready to go
in there. You know, 3:00 to 1:00 in the
morning line is going to be a short price, but with those
other Chad Brown horses. Deedia.
Definitely a single #5 in the Beverly D Yeah, the ninth race
tomorrow at Colonial. The five horse there, Didia.
I also have her on top in that race.
I do think, if ever, over the flavor of the favorite five
straight good races out of her. Cassie's got solid numbers of
Colonial, so I think. I do think she's got a shot.
Dan The horse I'm interested to see tomorrow, though, was Gina
Romanica. Second off the layoff.
Frankly, almost wanted first asking this year.
Yeah, you know, it's it's interesting you look at these
races, not only this race but the Arlington million as well,
but it looks like to me. And and this is assuming that
there's turf racing today and tomorrow at Saratoga, which
there hasn't been for over a week, no, almost a week.
Now that it looks like Brown Chad has has left some of his A
people, most of his A-Team at Saratoga and you're kind of
getting the B team here at Colonial down.
So I thought the one horse other than the horse you mentioned,
media, I I think the one horse was interesting to me.
Norm Cassie, It looks like Norm Cassie has a stable at Colonial
Downs this year, which is interesting, but I I thought you
had to give a second look to the one horse too.
Got it. All right.
So that was the 9th race tomorrow.
Colonial. Let's get into that Arlington
Million. By the way, that Beverly D is a
winning in for the Breeders Cup Philly and Mayor turf.
And so I don't think the winner of the Philly and mayor turf is
in that race at Beverly D tomorrow.
Dan, do you think she is? Probably not.
Yeah, I. See.
I mean, we'll see. You got to see the field.
But she she's legit. Don't, don't, don't sleep on
her. She's big time.
OK, there you go. All right.
I do like Vincent Shamino and the Nacho Correa's combination
as well. I think they're a potential
monster in the turf game in North America.
Let's go to the Arlington Million, Dan, It's a mile and a
quarter. I like that they're getting back
into the funky start at the beginning.
A little bit off of the turn there Kevin but it's a million
bucks here obviously grade one I I called this last night on the
podcast. I call this kind of a Grade 1
minus maybe a grade 2 plus kind of field.
You get some horses in here that people are going to know the
names. If you do follow racing around
here obviously set pieces in here.
Now running as a 7 year old you get a tone rock emperor.
Maybe you've heard of Masterpiece or Adamo the the
tough luck. Adamo Santon won this race last
year on the I don't know the best way to describe the turf
last year, but whatever that mud was for Arlington Million Day
last year at Churchill Downs. Dan, where did you land in the
Arlington million this year? I went with a little bit of a
price. I landed and and I thought this
race was wide open again. You know, not not the top,
probably not the top Grade 1 turf horses in the country.
I landed on a bit of a price. I landed on 8 catnip, an
improving 4 year old. Last time out in a grade one got
got beat by therapist who if I remember correctly had an easy
lead and went all the way around in that race.
But at least that was a that was a grade one and and I have a I
had a hard time finding a a really legitimate grade one
horse in the rest of the field. How about you, Kevin?
Yeah, I love catnip in here too. I mean there's there's a couple.
I do think it is wide open. He saw how heavily can't have
got bet there in the United Nations you know went off as the
favorite. Was a little bit of a surprise
there but I think that's sort of tips how strong the barn feels
about how well that that he's doing.
Definitely improving 4 year old I I agree with that therapist
ran huge that day and can't have definitely.
You know ran a winning race you know being a little bit closer
to the pace that I think it was so high went off and and ran
away from the mall. But looks like the form's still
there. You know we come back pretty
quickly but we see that that bullet work out.
I think cabinet is definitely live in here.
I don't think we're going to get 8 to one.
I think that he will be bet similar to the United Nations.
I do think Adamo is a very interesting one.
Have heard him described as one of the top.
Turf horses, at least they believe so.
Running. You know when he was doing the
Manhattan and went in the United Nations last year And then we
just saw that form go South. But nobody's better than Chad
Brown with getting a horse ready to go off the layoff.
And then I do Santeen. Let's talk about.
You know Brendan Walsh is like you said, won up the million
last year. He's just been, you know, an
enigma. You know it's it's it's we've
been on dirt the last two we tried synthetic at Turfway, you
know, Walsh told me that he was having trouble getting his, his
shoes right. A little bit of a hook situation
and you know, but that was before the the Turf Classic
there on May 6th and we didn't see a great run.
That day and we just haven't seen that form but you know if
he can put it together he's got Tyler up.
Walsh is is always you know he's always entering live horses.
He's not just put him in here just to be there on a big day
right because he's shipping other horses.
So Santeen could be interesting in here, though he probably look
for a similar trip to as Catnip, but I I prefer catnip to
Santeen. I landed on the two never
explained and we're talking about race 10, the Arlington
Millionaire Colonial Downs tomorrow hanging out with Kevin
Kilray at Trust Your Luck on Twitter.
He's presented by the Kentucky HBPA.
You know, I I thought never explain who has the last five
times up been no worse than two lengths off at the finish line.
Those are the kinds of horses in these races that are going to be
part of the equation. That's all Shamino now has moved
his tack to a Colonial knows the track riding for Shook here.
Two of them don't hook up their solid 43% over all this horse.
Three wins and six runs this year.
I do understand some of those at Tampa as this horse started to
grow up and improving 5 year old.
How about that? One of the reasons to fall in
love with these turf races. You get to watch these horses
run for a very, very long time. Kevin, do you have a favorite
since we are hanging out with the KY, the Kentucky HBPA?
Do you have a favorite race at Ellis on Sunday?
I mentioned all the the big purses out there.
The only thing we don't get on Sunday because of the dirt
racing is that that turf pick three that I love so much.
Yeah. What a great late sequence there
from Race 5 on. You know we've got a couple of
two year old races. It's got the Audubon Oaks and
the of course Ellis Park Derby. But what about the the Groupie
doll Race 10. I love this this field and this,
this opportunity. We're going one mile.
We got that shoot mile there. 3 year olds in that Phillies.
We've got the nonviolence, wants to be forward.
He got falconets. Wants to be forward.
We've got the Interstate Daydream forward horse.
We've got hidden connection forward horse.
I'm going to take a big shot here with 15 to one on the
morning line. Chris Block brings us.
She Can't Sing. A horse that, you know, was down
at fairgrounds for the past couple years and had a little
bit of a issue with the teeth, right.
And that's something you see with horses sometimes that if
their teeth are giving troubles, they're just not wanting to run
out there as you're you're trying to get the bit in there
and trying to control them. They're just fighting you all
the way. So they they got the teeth
figured out and he she really, she really stepped forward in a
big way. And that's all been on turf, but
by me and Chris Block, you know, Speaking of Illinois.
He you just trust Chris Block when he does something different
with his horses, whether it's distance or whether it's
surface, it's for a a darn good reason.
And his numbers for going from turf to dirt are not only huge
with getting wins, but also if you look at third grass for
running new top efforts. So I do think the pace is going
to set up. She can't think has tactical
options. Brian Hernandez, junior, is
going to get up for this one. One of my favorite jobs.
And I think we're going to, we're going to we're going to
jump by the the front runners at the end there and and get the
win here in the groovy doll. She Can't Sing if I can play the
exact cold I do she Can't Sing over Interstate Daydream a horse
who had a tough trip last time. You can see just by looking at
the running lines, you know forward horse that was that had
a tough, a tough break and was running at the back of the field
and still was game against Ledevita who was another great.
To create Philly. So I I do a little 65 cold and
of course in a single she Can't Sing in the the pick five in
Ellis Park. Love it.
All right Dan. He did mention Interstate
Daydream. Last year's a winner of the
Black Eyed season and the Indiana Oaks came back this year
one that DuPont at Pimlico over Preakness weekend.
She's the nine to five favorite here for your guy Brad Cox.
I imagine you feel about a Interstate Daydream.
How Kevin feels about she Can't Sing.
No I I I actually I actually went a different direction here
I I can't I I I can't figure out hidden connection.
I was, I was actually at Churchill Downs and on on
September 18th of 21 when she was a 2 year old and it was it
was an evening program and she won the Pocahontas by 9 and a
quarter lengths and I believe that was her either her second
or third start. And I thought man is this Philly
going to be something. And then she just, I mean she
had she ran second got beaten neck in the fairground oaks.
But she just kind of runs around there.
I keep waiting for her to have a big one and it and it never
seems to come. I went I I thought the race
might be a little short for Interstate Daydream.
And I I don't know that you're going to get those loping
fractions that she has enjoyed. I went with the falconette.
I went with the three horse. She seems, if you look at her
form, she seems to be in every other one, or at least has been
lately. And it's time for that, every
other one. So I went with the three horse
Falconette things you only see on days like this.
The old Todd Pletcher Gerado Corrales combination only
happens in the Groovy doll on Sunday at Ellis Park.
Before we let Kevin go, you got any plays in Saratoga?
This weekend, what I was I was bragging last night that I
watched. I watched all the the the
replays for the Saratoga special.
All. All seven of them.
You know, it's with the weather there.
I've just been sort of just just.
You know a little bit reluctant to to go whole hog and get my my
handicapping on. So definitely got to look at the
the four-star Dave and think about maybe getting iced
chocolate home for that one. I think that was a tough trip at
the beginning, at the end for iced chocolate getting pinched
out at the start and then had run coming home, but no lane to
use. It had to shift out and.
And almost get up for a third there.
So you know, second time going long, it'd be just the third
time total I believe maybe the 4th for ice chocolate.
I think that could be an interesting one there.
One thing to remember, I think that that day that they ran the
Kelso that was listed as as firm, but that was a soft turf
course. That was one of those weird
deals where there was a lot of moisture in there, but they just
had it listed different. So if that makes any difference,
the handicap is out there. I definitely have that listed as
a soft course that day. There you go.
All right, well, he's Kevin Kilroy at Trust Your Luck on
Twitter. Kevin, any any fun stuff you're
writing up? What are you writing up for us
this weekend? Yeah, so we're going to look at
these at Ellis Park races for the weekend and put that out
there up on 1st. Jen Always doing my for in the
money media. Take a look at finding a A pick
five that. Possibly could could yield a
really big score at Saratoga. So it looks like Sunday might be
the day that I take a swing there.
So if you're not subscribed in the money media, do it and they
will just come through on the e-mail blast.
Take a look at that. It's all about being contrarian,
right? Try to find those spots where
you can be on the other side of the coin.
That's the, that's the title of the of the column.
You know, because you want to. That's the best part of this
game, right, guys? Is that you can actually, you
can, you can have a year changing score and possibly a
lifetime changing score, but definitely a year changing
score. That can make you think about
quitting your job. And that's what everybody wants
to do, right? They dream about quitting their
job. So you got to take those swings,
you know, taking even money shots.
You can get that in sports betting, but horse racing's all
about that big score, so I'll let you go on this.
We had Dan's son on last night. He swept the pick six pool at
Saratoga on Saturday, 380 K What is Kevin Kilroy's biggest score
ever? Oh my God.
And you know Kevin, what's amazing is he said almost
verbatim what you just said he said on on Louise podcast last
night. He said you know you can't.
You you have to look at other options.
If you if you're going to try and hit a big score, you have to
look at other options that everybody else isn't looking at.
And that's exactly what you just said.
Man, my dude, I got to meet this guy.
You got, you got to collect this stuff, go back and watch it.
He was a fun interview, man. Yeah.
Oh, I definitely will watch it. My, my biggest is 1717 G, 17 G
so that's the biggest score, which is, which is something.
But I mean, yeah, that's that's a lot changing score that your
son there had. Dan, that's awesome.
And that in 1984 I had an exacted Aqueduct paid 840.
That's my biggest score. That's pretty good.
So you had it like 100 times, right, Dan, I we were at the
Indiana Derby and I watched Dan hit the early pick five at
Belmont standing in front of a bar in Shelbyville IN.
It was great. What was that one like, 45480
Dan? I think it was 550.
There it is. Thanks, Kevin.
All right. That'll pay bills.
All right, well, he's Kevin Kilray, and trust your luck on
Twitter. All right.
Kevin, we'll talk to you. Good talking to you guys.
Thank you. All right.
Presented by our friends at the Kentucky HBPA.
Reminder, Kentucky Downs Preview day Tuesday at Blind Squirrel.
Come on out and say hi to me and Bobby Vee.
I will be out there 2:50 on ESPN681-O57 hanging out with you
and a guy named Michael Columbus.
How about that? There you go.
Well, Kevin Kilber, I let you talk this time, Dan.
Yeah. Thank you.
That's two weeks in a row.
