The Happy Hour crew is back in 2022! Did you miss us?
In this episode we discuss what we did over our sabbatical & preview some races at Gulfstream & Oaklawn.
All right. Welcome to a 2022.
Version of the horse-racing happy hour.
We're Back in the Saddle Again, back in the set.
Not all right. We'll do you can totally see ya.
Did you just cover your microphone only all the sudden?
You're like muted? I don't know what.
Where are you little low? My quiet knows anything.
Yeah. Now you're good.
I don't know. You just got to make sure you
talk into the microphone. Don't turn real really good.
I don't know. Deeply deepthroat immediate deep
throating. I'm going.
I'm going which way is the mic. I'm going old school.
You got the wired headphones wired in look ready for people
who are new to the show. I'm like Adolfo, I'm joined by
Bluebird. Bow and Megan Divine, who is a
gamer? Let me just talk.
Megan is a freaking gamer like 102 fever right now.
Oh yeah, no it no, you're sick. I can't decide if it's so hot in
here. She's giving everybody the farm
covid. You see me like sweating
profusely? It's because ideas like mean,
she's normally hot, but she's literally on fire right now.
Yeah, I'm coming and throat. Clearing, that might happen on
the show yesterday. I was laying in bed, and I was
just like, please don't die, please body.
We can do this. We are young.
Not yes, 30 year old. Old person I can do your Cameron
from Ferris. Bueller's Day Off.
I'm dying. Yeah, you know, you listen.
You watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
You get that in Ferris. Bueller's Day Off reference.
Oh my gosh. Once a month, Maybe.
Back after our little Hiatus, after our sabbatical, at least
Megan I had a sabbatical Louis just keeps on trying to put out
the content and whatever else and and yeah.
So we're here and what did you do over Christmas?
Break or holiday, break or sober nondenominational?
What did you do over the break? Megan, what exciting things that
you do? Well, I got sick.
So that was fun and I did I actually was sick on Christmas
and New Year's to so doing really well.
But I went, I found time in the, in the brief period that I was
healthy to go snowboarding. I went to Florida on like a
little mini Moon, you know, my with my hubby.
So that was good. That was fun.
We caught some fish pictures. Looked incredible.
Yeah. That looks like we're really
good at fishing. Yeah, yeah.
So that's that's pretty much it. And like, none of my animals
died and I am plus one cat now, plus one on the cat's.
Okay, not a birth, but it was like the Immaculate Conception
or they showed up it just It up. It was like, hey, I hear that
Cardinal Creek Farm, is a really cool place to live, so, alright.
These question mark and I was, yeah, I guess I was probably
just going to stay for the free health care in the believe me,
homeless animal, shelter, Megan divine's homeless shelter.
That's what that's what I did in my period on discriminate.
It's just for the free health care than I bailed on my
parents. Yeah, pretty much.
Yeah, so 2017, Florida Derby. Pull over on in honor of the
frigid 62-degree temperatures are going to have to endure on
Saturday while it's 8 degrees. Here, cool.
Don't feel bad for any of you people, and all that.
So, yeah, that's all right. Yeah.
The Gulf Stream by the way, the only place that I've been to for
Breeders Cup outside of the state of Kentucky.
So they know 1999 Breeders Cup. I've been a ton of work.
Yeah, yeah. The that was kind of the height.
Will College thing at least and, but yeah, it was good.
So Louis. What about you?
What did you do? Over the break?
Six of us, got Omicron at the site and that was recently, by
the way, I was all through and actually got to see my sister
over New Year's, which is nice and nice.
I think it was negative 2 degrees and negative 35 with the
windchill. When I know we went sledding, In
my kids were like, yay, and the 20 minutes later, they were like
no, so that was great. And then we really don't have
enough real snow first lady. No, I mean it's been it's hadn't
been over here but it was it was better up in Detroit for sure.
Yeah, about you Mike I I have been to have been a big fudge.
Big Fudge has been to Myrtle Beach.
I've been to Tampa Bay. I've been to just more than
Amelia Island. I actually got paid to speak.
There you go. So that's, you know, that's a
thing. I went to one of the fourth most
haunted place in the United States.
I had cigars in Ybor City which was, yeah, that's right.
I had listen, I'm I had something happen in Ybor City
that I've never had happened before me a cigar smoker.
You texted me during November or desires?
That I did text you, but I sent you a picture was pretty.
It was impressive, right? It was amazing.
So I was smoking a Hemingway bestseller, which if cigar
smokers no Hemingway's have a Very unique shape and this this
cigar was literally kept it. You're not supposed to ask the
cigar. The first Ash is supposed to
just fall off and I literally never Ash, the cigar, I smoke
the entire thing and it kept its shape.
So it looked like at the end, Louis can you send that picture
over so we can maybe even get it up on the screen that were video
so people can actually no because we're going to be we're
gonna be able to Video out there.
Well, the so can I this? It was so impressive.
What it's all a family story. Yeah, absolutely.
So I'm man. All right, so major I apologize
and you know, first humblebrag ear.
So I Louis. Robo the fifth and Louis Lumiere
about the second was a congressman for 25 years.
He actually died in office and he rose to the position of
majority majority whip in the House of Representatives.
Really important guy who was mayor of Washington, d.c.
because that position there's actually a school in d.c. named
after him the whole thing. And so that is a big humblebrag.
That's there's a piece missing signal
He would at the time in Congress everyone would smoke cigars and
so he would actually put a bamboo shoot in the middle of
his cigars so that the ash would stay on when he was giving talks
that he didn't want people, to pay attention to his details of
so that they would like stare at the cigar and get distracted
instead of paying attention to what he was doing.
So he got really famous for Wow, having these cigars in Congress
that the ash got really, really long on and he was cheating the
whole time. It's really great.
It's a great I was not cheating though.
No, you weren't. That was a great.
I mean this thing's legit and it was, I was so excited.
Like I'm like I'm texting on my cigar friends.
This picture of me just holding onto the little bit of tobacco
that's left. And this hacker cigar I did.
Yeah. And I think he likes huge a
chef, that's right. Yeah.
Yeah. And then I have another group
that of that, sometimes we meet on Friday mornings and have
cigars for coffee and coffee to start the day.
So yeah, it was, it was great. Yeah, so that was that's it.
I spent New Year's in Tampa and Nia had one of her best high
school, basketball games ever. So she had an 18-point 10
rebound. Just really dominating the game
and that was awesome to see and and then, you know, one stray
from that game watch Kentucky when their bowl game and you
know, okay, it's and that was the way should be mentioned.
Why can't I did radio for Bobby Vee months ago and kids, Lucky
you look terrible against Chattanooga.
Yeah. Nick and might defended Mark
Stoops that week and got crushed crushed by the people listening
to the show. And then they went one time
games, Mike was totally right. Eat it.
That's right. Yeah.
Well, I mean again you just can't read into too much in
those games, you know. Just but at the end of the day,
Mark Stoops little you network Kentucky football school, you
know, no longer no longer basketball school will has no
athletic department whatsoever. That's where we are.
Not good, huh? It's it is where we are, is what
it is, very sad. So yes, that was it.
So there's happy hundred days to the Kentucky Derby today, by the
way. Oh really?
That's awesome. I was also like the 100th day of
school for a lot of schools, so there you guys kind of a weird
deal aren't 100 days Derby this year falls on my birthday once
again, go, hopefully I'll get to celebrate a little bit but
usually, I don't usually again we're getting a new chat person.
Eric actually, who What's up Eric?
Here's cheers to that. So there you go.
Your day to the fundraising and you got engaged under B and then
had to work for like 12 hours. Yeah.
Why would any, why would the world stopped for your birthday?
No offense. I mean, no, I've already been to
a derby and had to work one of my birthday.
It was like the, like the worst fine, right?
No. Just now.
So, so speaking of Derby, like, you know, if we think about the
Derby point system and all that kind of stuff, Is there any
horses that are super exciting to you right now from that?
The Derby horse, the derby field.
I mean, it's still so early, so it's hard to say.
I mean, we're just now getting into those.
I mean, we already had the Sham and we'll get into the Southwest
obviously coming up this weekend.
But yeah, I don't know right now that just I don't really feel
like there's any huge standouts and it's difficult to because
some of the words that I would have said I liked last year at
whatever point in the season, you know, came up with injury or
whatever and we don't know if they're going back like Rattle
and Roll was super impressive. And you know There's a bunch of
them that I think we still have yet to see.
Somebody still don't know if we're gonna have any Bob,
baffert horses, were also more likely.
We're not going to have any, I don't think.
Yeah, it seems more excited about one of the Phillies in the
Martha Washington than I am about any of the boys that are
of this weekend, for example. Well, yeah.
Yeah. Wow.
Okay. Well I think there's that,
there's a potential superstar in the Martha Washington.
Oh interesting. Okay because I didn't like the
field. You are actually.
All right I like how you're just teasing.
Buddy until we actually talked about it.
It's a damn, right, that's called a tease.
Let's go but this show hundred a soldier be 100 days.
Older be, we're kicking off the horse racing, happy hour season,
like we're super excited. We're getting the next three
months are going to be super exciting, just to kind of see
how the field shakes out. Megan's going to do some Derby
rankings for us as along the way, Louise going to do his Oaks
rankings because I don't know if you all heard but lose its
rankings. Last year were pretty much on
point, really good? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
For people who hang out with us on Oaks and Derby, we will be
back doing, pre game on ESPN Louisville.
So, normal to our shows on those days, you'll be able to hang out
with us again and excited. I ran into those guys yesterday.
Nice. It's talked it up and we're
going to go. Let's go.
They were pretty busy yesterday, a little bit.
I literally said, I know you're not thinking about this right
now, but yeah, I know, but we'll just fired their basketball
coach but let's just talk about this real quick so on 101 days.
Come on, guys. Get it together.
Yes. I will be here for all your
previous coverage for the Oaks and Derby.
And we have a lot of fun out there, and we're really grateful
to KK. And all the other people at
Churchill Downs who are just staring Rogers, who just really
are great, especially trouble who feeds me and all the other
stuff in. You know, what do you all think
about that Derby? Making the announcement, you
know, that they're going to continue with the all-inclusive
thing. We kind of we kind of thought
that was going to be it. I mean like Jack the particular
prices up and said you know what was that?
It was a test last. Yeah.
Want really well for them and they're able to figure it out,
so that's good. Yeah, it's cool.
Some commentary that there are people who don't want the
alcohol part of that. And I'm sympathetic to that
because that is a big factor in how they price their people, you
know, for sure. And so wrong, I'm pathetic to
that part where maybe there could be all inclusive food,
all-inclusive all and Churchill Downs says schedule down says,
well, guess what we're gonna say.
The ticket. So, yeah, that's a little bit of
that. I'm sympathetic to that.
But, yeah, I think there's, I think, overall, it was just
easier to get around, not waiting in line for things.
Huh, Water by wondering what it I gotta say. 24 people, working
a lot of them are like cheerleader parents, right?
Who are trying families for their daughters or whatever.
And oh I did is I school basketball coach.
Yeah, it's so much easier to not have to exchange money and just
here's your drink sir. Throw something in the tip jar.
That's great. If they don't whatever.
But like at the same time, just make the drinks and I'm out or
make the sandwiches hand them out whatever might be.
So there's, it's give and take but I think that overall, it's
probably a better way to go. Yeah, you all want to hear that
story real quick, of course. So I was like, I was doing the
shake-up lemonade thing and we were in the infield and our
station. We were like right between
where, like, the third turn starts for the infield, so right
on the edge of the craziness, and we're doing a limited Shake
thing. Me and Chrissy my wife will
attest to this because she was working with me, I had one lady,
who would just come back and continue by the lemonade and get
back in line because she liked how I shape that you like it was
like what she was like, she was watching me shake it because I
was like, I got into it. My hiss one side to side and she
was like watching me shaking right now.
Yeah, that's, that's That, but we spent the whole day in the
infield was beautiful weather and I got called a little cube
of the, in the diagram gonna have to have a video of you
shaking some lemonade. Well, that's back in the skin.
Replace its it's coming but he has a thing.
What's coming Terrible Weather? A Derby this year because
they've been great. Here's the perfect authentic.
Yeah, was perfect. And this last one was perfect
but we had five. It's 5050 5050.
You know what we're undercover? I really like it.
How many people from Long Island do I have to drive around that
weekend? Is it anything like your
wedding? Yeah, probably.
All right, let's let's let's go and let's just kind of go
through this real quick. So Louis we talked about Will
you do in the Oaks rankings? I am looking at the show sheet,
let's we got to talk about baffert, right?
We got it. We got to get to baffert.
It was announced today, I guess that there's going to be a
hearing about Medina Spirits, Kentucky Derby on February 7th,
he remains Church. Even after was came out that it
was topical, cream, or whatever. Baffert's Churchill Downs ban
remains in effect. Churchill Downs had a
zero-tolerance policy on the, you know, on the drug.
So I don't know what that's going to do.
For the hearing, you know what's what is your opinion?
What's the latest and greatest? I don't know that there's a
latest and greatest I've just been, I've been following some
of the testimony and today. Bob baffert said that the Oaks
is on Saturday in the derby is on.
So that's so ridiculous. Oh come on.
Like let's if we're really going to take this seriously, you
don't somebody Miss steps. Are I'm not and I'm not in
defensive Bob. I'm just saying that's a stupid
thing to harp on he obviously knows when the all of it is
ridiculous durable of, it's ridiculous.
It feels like it feels like it's a lot of posturing on either
side. Of course, we're trying to
figure out Larceny charge. And instead, we're charging
someone with a petty crime. And I just, I don't know what?
What point? How many times can you look at
your wife and say? No.
No, that wasn't me before she just goes you know what I'm
gonna go do something else. See ya.
He's got plenty to do in California you know.
First never going to get mad at him to just stay out there and
do something. I just at some point.
Like if you do care about too many It's way too many and it's
super high level, sorry, especially in a time period, a
short time period. You know, I mean, over the span
of your career, fine. Not find obviously but different
horses digesting so really, we've discovered that, you know,
different metabolisms, whatever topical ointments other
therapeutic drugs that are legal, but then stay in the
system, too long, like that, what was it?
That, Sadler horse or somebody else?
No, it was whatever. Anyways, no, it was a guy that's
like never had any. In California, it happened not
too long ago. Anyways, so so I agree that that
that's wrong and, you know, we should always be advocates for
the horse and and all that. But I do think that one Twitter
today or recently, you know, just on that Obama's of the
Derby was on Sunday or whatever. Like that's stupid if you want
to actually talk about this and you want to pay attention to the
hearings and whatever. Then you need to actually talk
about Out what really is happening or the facts of the
case, or the sides that, you know, each party is presenting
and their arguments. I think if we really want to
talk about this, we need to actually talk about this.
We don't just need to blow up in our own fucking faces.
Did you just did you smack the snot?
I did it. I said four faces.
Okay, good. Just want to make sure that you
will remix kind of hit. Hit the dump button, you know?
All right. I'm a little tired of this.
I'm tired of the the attitude of the baffert camp if that's fair
to say things like is his media to her right after the Derby.
How his attorney talks all the time.
He reminds me of a pundit on one of the the news networks, that
leans a certain way and in any or all of them, that's exactly
what this is exactly what I'm getting at.
He sounds more like a pundit than attorney and it's so much.
What about his mmm? It's oh well, I mean 30, but
this guy's got 40. Well that's guys the 50 which is
essentially what California did when all those horses broke
down, Kim hricko hired that PR firm whatever and their whole
genius scam was like, oh yeah, but did you see the numbers in
Kentucky? I was like, that's not helpful
for this board. I mean, come on.
That's it. You paid this company hundreds
of thousands of dollars to come up with a statement.
And that's what you came up with.
It's like the everybody's so yeah.
In recent history is the worst horse racing executive over
here. Leaders East are absolutely
unbelievable. I always hated it too because I
can college basketball and somebody suggested, you know,
then I cool. Everyone's cheating, you know,
it's not as make. Okay, like does it mean that you
should be doing? And, you know, I'm not so sure
that everyone is cheating but well, and that's the thing is,
especially in a sport like ours that are, we have to, you know,
fight tooth and nail just to stay relevant in a growing
Sports in a growing betting culture, as well.
It's like, it doesn't help us to do that.
And these letters to the editor, Is that come out that really
probably doesn't have anything else to post except for these
ridiculous letters? Or people are just like saying,
all this industry is stupid and I'm sick of it and ready to get
out of here with that. How does that help us?
All? That it does is that's going to
get picked up by somebody else. There was really no, you know,
no, good story in there. It was somebody just if you want
to air out your dirty laundry or bad feelings, whatever do it on
your own personal Twitter page, or whatever else?
I mean, just, why is that relevant in horse racing?
Twitter is Chose you, you want clicks and because clicks gets
advertising dollars. Well, I hope that that works for
them when we don't have a sport anymore and when they don't have
jobs. So, I mean, there's a lot of new
ideas in our world lot. There's a lot of short-sighted
decisions that get made all the time, you know?
And it's just I agree with that like not making a decision to
benefit you in the short term, the not understand what the
long-term ramifications are. Are, you know, that's a thing.
So the and we just, we do a terrible job of marketing
ourselves anyway. So why make it easier?
For the mainstream media to just pick up these these terrible
things that you know stuff is going to happen all the time,
but you never see them you know, trying hard to get out a feel
good story or a positive story to the mainstream media but
instead they're going to look for those negative headlines and
pick them up as soon as you put them out there and not saying
everything should be you know rose-colored glasses but I just
thought that was that was pretty ridiculous and especially in
this time period where it's already a heightened you know
like public issue with the whole baffert thing going on like we
do. That come on.
We can do better than that as an industry.
It's just it's frustrating. I'll put you two on the spot a
little bit. If you're ever in Churchill
Downs has spot right now. How would you treat baffert
today with what? You know with what?
You know? Not, oh, I don't know yet.
But with what you know, right now would you let baffert
qualify horses for the Oaks and Derby Mike?
So on the fence, I would say knowing that there we got the
pictures of the rash and we got that there was evidence that it
was just used as a top. Topical.
Ointment I would probably say yes, I'd let him because I think
it's good to have Bob baffert at Churchill Downs, on us first
Saturday of a. Okay, it's good for you, it's
good for the sport. Well that and you know, I don't
know it's hard because I think, no, because he is obviously a
bit of a Danger to the sport in the public perception, of what
he's, you know, been accused of or found guilty of or whatever.
But with this latest Medina, Spirit thing, the fact that we
did have the pictures of the skin, rash, we did of the
ointment, we did have whatever, you know, it's I mean, is it
good to publicize that to does that kind of like help mitigate
the issue like I was just in Tahoe and my blackjack dealer
you know we're talking and he's like what do you do?
I said horse racing when I was like oh didn't that that trainer
like dope that horse recently and whatever and I was like well
that's right. Not really you know and it's
every Juber driver that I've ever been with in the cards is
like trying to talk about all the bad things.
And so I don't know. I just again if we can We proved
that this wasn't as bad of an issue that as we originally.
Thought, I think that's only helpful, so I don't know if I'm,
if I'm Churchill Downs. Thank you for asking.
I would, I would go to baffert today and say we'll give you a
one-year ban right now, right? If you make it like settle with
us and shut the hell up. Yeah, okay.
And we'll let you back in next year but you cannot f with the
breeze and that we have a facility.
Built for one weekend a year can do it not.
Okay. That's what I would say, is
Churchill Downs and between the eight months between Janine and
authentic, right? Between give me an excuse me,
and Medina Spirit. Seems like it's not.
Okay? Well, then, that's, that's the
argument for sure. There should be a penalty.
Absolutely. Against this know, it's like,
okay, great. Are you by the way if you say no
to turns into five, like something like that.
Like, those are your options and like, Watch yourself because you
can't mess with the reason that we have 180,000 spaces for
people. Well, you shouldn't.
Yeah. They should, you know, there
should you shouldn't ever have a drug, you know, positive or
whatever. But if you do, even in the
slightest level somewhere, then I think maybe there's maybe it's
a year or banned from racing at that track in general or
something. I mean that way it's long enough
for the public to forget about and I'm a No-No.
That's it's tough, because you're Horsemen have to make a
living to and things do happen and whatever but that's what
stuff about the zero pain. Tolerance policy though.
You know, is because You do. Because when because when, when
is it, ok? Then when do you say, I know we
have a zero tolerance policy but like that horse in California,
who, you know, that there be two drug that was legal.
When it was administered, you know, stayed in that horses
system and then tested positive for guidance.
Like never had a positive test run.
Do you say well we have a zero pollen scholarship tolerance,
Zero Tolerance. I'm so sick.
I'm sorry y'all but you know then do you say but in this case
It's okay because you know, so you it's really hard to draw
that hard Line in the Sand but maybe, you know, that does
that's why I asked Riff Raff at Bay a little bit more.
I don't know. That's why I asked specifically
about Churchill Downs, right? Because it's it's those are
there Marquis days, right? That Friday for Oaks that
Saturday for Derby, you don't think on Friday, all the hats,
everything on Saturday. It's just different to take out
rates for the Derby racer. Different than the other races.
I think people do that. That's where the make a lot of
money. And so, I just, and look without
the Derby, Bob efforts, no one right.
I mean like he's nobody wins a bunch of sprint, races in
California, some through cares, but the Derby, the Derby big
lottery. A lot of races in general in
California, like Hamelin Bay Gadson, right?
We made him a superstar and that's how people know.
And so you know you can't have Both essentially, and so are
cuter, by the way, has been commenting.
Yeah. So, what's up?
I mean, because if he agrees with Mike, by the way, I think,
all of us agree that we need a uniform approach to drug
regulation, I don't think that's, I think we need a
uniform approach in a uniform system, and in general, because
we also need to be able to Market ourselves in a way that
we can combat some of this, you know, you had to have these
track owners. You'd have to have these track
owners, getting, you know, where they would all agree on
something and hopefully, you know, but that's not the
argument today are and no offense to you but it is just
There's something about messing. With the biggest days of
Churchill Downs that you just can't, it's not good for racing
number one, but it's also it's bad for the one of the
cornerstones of racing in the United States.
All right, so we've, we got a lot of races to handicap.
Let's go ahead and I want to start transitioning over to the
handicapping side, we're going to get to see Nick's go this
weekend in the Pegasus makes go recently.
Won the world horse of the year. And so, congratulations.
And next go, of course, we Got to give a quick real quick.
Hot rod. Charlie update.
He was training very well over the Middle East.
Yeah, like cited for his guys gonna, he's gonna kill it in his
four-year-old season. I love the fact that he's out
there to do it. You know, a prep over for the
Dubai over there, you know, I wish more when more shippers
would do that for the Derby, come over here for a
preparation. Right?
So right, so you're running in Saudi to or no yes yeah hot rod.
Charlie is yeah, the whole thing.
Yeah, it's great. He's over there.
He's getting it done. It's like that's where the money
is. Let's do this.
So let me get some of that oil money.
Hey, maybe, pay me, pay me in that and that black oil.
Let's go. Do you think Hot Rod Charlie's
an environmentalist or not? No, no.
Yeah, that's a winner. So we will go on then to we're
going to start out there. In Gulfstream Park.
We're going to Gulf Stream in Oakland today.
Race 5 is kicks off. The greatest takes, this is a
great three. Mile and a half on the turf.
La. Pray for you.
Want a now before we go too far down this?
Yep, this is, this is a very interesting fact, La prevalent.
A was a filly finished. Second in the 1973 Oaks, of
course, I was the same weekend that we saw a horse named
secretary when the derby. This horse has two steaks named
after her and she only ran into races.
That's all. That's well, that's true.
That's not true. But that's all there is in horse
racing Nation. So still made it racing than the
oh yeah, that's all they had record stuff so I'm sure she
ran. Wouldn't you racist?
But up, that's what I was. That's that's what I thought was
funny, but it's not real quick to our new producer, Jamie Foxx
for that field graphic that. Yeah, we'll put it up there.
Let's get the field. Look at that.
Love it. Alright, so let's talk about a
real professional. Let's go with Louis first.
Its affiliate race? Let's see here.
What Louise got to say about the about the one and a half mile
Turf race here for the film. Also like my my dream race,
right? Is, there are these three
together mile and a half in the trailer for this, right?
So I do actually get the money like the morning line maker here
that always shopping the force. The favorite has recently won at
grocery Park will be placed near the front of this group by
jockey Tyler got follow Yoni who's riding really well
recently at culture as well and if she's got the lake she's
going to win. The nine honor hop.
Op didn't break her maiden. Until her four-year-old campaign
has been running in high-level allowance company at Churchill
Downs. In Saratoga, at Kentucky, Downs
at Keeneland turn to Brian Lynch hits at 19% coming off a layoff,
he and John jockey Julien lepers who hit 19 percent of Cole
Street Park. This would be a substantial Step
Up win for her, but I actually do think she can do it.
And if you want a third horse, the six beautiful lover has been
in the mix. Thank you.
I'm so sorry. You shake that lemony brother.
Good work it. Jason real recently picks up
Joel Rosario in the iron sometimes those little changes
make a big difference. I think the other two are much
more likely winners, I'm 49 and 6 in the library account.
All right, I am similar. I've got the for on top, but for
some of the reasons you mentioned Louis always shopping,
obviously has the back glass of class 1 class.
We say that a lot here on the show has run at this distance.
Plenty has before as a first and a second and and seems to be
this type of a horse Sculpture Park 446, but what I think is
most important in this field is that it seems like she's alone
speed in here. Yeah so I just don't think as
far as the pace scenario is good.
Third unless somebody switches up their tactics and really you
know rides pretty close to her heels there.
I see a situation where she's just able to set whatever Pace
you want sand because she because this is a horse that has
so much stamina and has you know race over this distance or
similar distances plenty of times before not really worried
about her running out of steam. So I do think though that you
could see tactics be changed a little bit with the once the
world who I included for curse off c'mon.
I read Ortiz, is the first time that he's going to be aboard the
five-year-old mayor. And I think you see a maybe a
little bit more of an aggressive ride.
In this case, she's been in some grated 6 before she comes out of
the same race. Has always shopping and
beautiful lover, but I feel like third start off.
The bench is a good angle for her.
She's probably a little bit more fit here.
I think you see your sit way closer to the PACE than she was
last time. So I think that horse is
absolutely in the Mexican crisps up.
Come on doing really, really well right now winning it.
Well, True percent. And she I mean she had Bill
Buick and Ryan Morris or jockeys when she was.
Okay. So they obviously think a lot of
this horse. Right?
Right. Yeah, go.
Buick is a by Sir, Michael Stout before.
So she comes from a good bar out there they'll be oh he's going
to be jumping on her and Charlie just, you know, make sure we get
that. You got all the hot rod Charlie
news news as well, but I actually do prefer the one Over
the six, both are trained by closed off Christoph Mont but
the one you get a six to one price, right?
All right, so Mike, I will go with Mike, picks the name.
I'll go with as a 90s hip-hop fan, I will go with Onyx.
Yeah, but really, what was it hungry kitten for, you know,
Onyx had to hit song Slam in the 90s.
The boys be boys. All right, well, we're gonna do
a quick pick on the race six here.
Just so for the Exotics and this is Because I guess turf or
Gulfstream put in some sort of weird to Peta track.
I don't know. It's this seems a little over
the top for me but it's a Milan 70 yards.
So this is a just a real quick pick on this on this handicap
race here. What do you like here?
Just give us some numbers. No 476 and 11 for me I it'll be
interesting to see because it's talked about this a little off.
Are the computer course, is playing really tight at
Gulfstream like it did it. Turquoise Last year, it takes
about a year for this. These courses to get worked up
and act like you know, traditional to be in a course as
if you will. And so horses shipping in from
would buying the for frosted over coming out of a grade 3 V
second place to Sir, Winston by a half-length but did when the
Ontario Derby. So, if you're going to have a
horse step into a good spot here with Luis saez, I think the for
is on top and then I had the 7 and the 6 to 7 is telephone
talker with Telegraph alone. You hear that name?
Today one last time, out a Gulfstream on this track.
So essentially, the top two from year, four and seven.
I'm similar. I've got the for on top but I
really really like the 11 horse in here, Tiësto.
Every 12 to 13 Carol. Who's gonna step up a little bit
from the allowance levels. Oh no, I'm sorry, this is a
handicap, isn't it? So this is not actually Trace.
Yeah, so fits perfectly here. Where's the source?
Here we go. You get Junior Alvarado.
A board has been over the synthetic surfaces turf.
Hey Park and also at Woodbine in the past two races before that
was trained by Belmont. I think it's a horse that it has
the ability to sit just off the pace or actually closed from
pretty far behind. We've seen both those tactics be
used by this one so that it is now I certainly think he's going
to appreciate the distance of this race.
So I've got the 411 7 and then I had the three fancy liqueur in
there as as another 1821 instead of I think you had the six
Louisa We're settler, right? So and Mike picks it, you know,
since it's the core and not liquor, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna
go Mike, picks a name with, of course.
Hello, hot rod. All right, New York has a Le.
All right, so the notice I'm not giving out any numbers.
Well, you don't need them to be of those fancy Graphics.
Now, thanks to the seventh race is actually named after a man
who was born in South Dakota and that is WL McKnight.
He's the one he is the one guy. Who moved down to Florida,
worked for the M3 Corporation and owned a horse farm, South
Dakota. And yes, this is the great 3wl
McKnight. It is a mound of half on the
turf, but now we can let the boys with penises go out there
and run around the track for a little bit.
So this is a two hundred thousand dollar grade 3.
And who do we like here? We'll go with Luke.
Oh no, this is a voice word race we're gonna let making go first
here. Maybe really important really
important really important. If you're not doing dry January,
go to the Page for me. So leave a lattes in this race
and it's finish your drink. Incredible.
Want a bite now, finish your drink.
You sign up for a lot, a drink and this is the year where we
start writing down the rules of the show.
And no I think we need to I think we need it.
Now that we've got these fancy Graphics, I think we got to
build a graphic, where we have the rules of the show and we put
it up. I think I'm in To play.
I believe there's a be new rules.
This year. We got a new rule to add new
rows to, we're at us. But there are two horses that I
think you have to chug or drink and and finish that up if we
mentioned in and that is solely Volante.
And also the king, the king camera.
Yeah. Yep.
Absolutely. So those are, those are the
rules. Those rules will stay and be
like, the Long Day's gonna race until he's like nine.
So it doesn't matter. By the way, in the last race,
telephone talker. Oh no, it's coming up.
Never mind a horse that beat can Guillermo is running later in
the day. Can you always already say until
about Docker? It's later the day.
It's like, just another role that shows if we mention the
matali Louis gets A full-on Direction so they don't need to
know that. Okay, I'm sorry.
That was it more of an inside joke inside?
All right, anyway so I got the nine eight ten sticks as well as
election. So I have the nine Glynn County
on top for like maker coming off a layup, hasn't raced in 2022
but had some good races last year.
And I'm okay with giving the were some time especially one
that's excuse me, this You know, the staying type of the longer
distances, but he's going to come back into pretty good shape
here. He comes in with some good
workouts as well. So I certainly think that he has
a chance and then I've got the eight horse who is Baker's Bay
12 to 14. Quad McGehee, smoothies a son.
I'm sorry, no, shouldn't get. He is called.
I was thinking Reef should be a heat stroke.
Yeah, this is shh. It's all, it's all the
qualifications me. I do need verbal.
And this is another where she hasn't started yet.
So far this year, but had some good races last year, just going
to be a bit of a step up for him and he's never reached your goal
Stream Park. But he has been in some of those
longer distance races before he's been around at Keeneland
Aqueduct. Kentucky Downs.
Churchill. So he certainly held his own
against some good company. Albeit, maybe just a step below.
The 10 is a bond to one for Todd Pletcher and Luis saez.
Hooray, stick Ocean Park last time, and he certainly has a
great record so far. He's had seven of his nine races
in the To. So you got to like that and the
six horse who is gamma Breeze for Rusty Arnold and Corey
Landry, who again hasn't started yet this year.
And and part of that too, I should mention with these
sources that are coming off of a layoff.
In this particular race, you don't get a lot of the mile and
a half race. Has Milan three spaces on the
turf so you really have to wait for those spots to come up with.
So, you know, we talk about layoffs and whatever you have to
put it into context, I think and four horses like this.
You might look at and say oh they're going to need a race off
the layoff whole. Maybe.
But also you have to think they've just been waiting for a
race like this to come up, especially one if you are a
stayer like this. Maybe there was a race you could
have gone in but it wouldn't be paying as much as you know, you
might find on a big day like this Equestrian Park, a 200,000
dollar race so so that really doesn't bother me in this
particular spot. Yeah.
The other other option for horse like that would have been what
Obama was in the last time but it was a two-mile race.
Right? So I mean yeah you doing Returns
or whatever. Exactly.
I think a bond is going to go to the front and try to stay there.
And like, like I mentioned recently won it, two miles, it
goes through Park in the Jerkins, three wins two seconds
of the last six runs. Luis saez is writing as well as
anyone. And so I think he's worthy
favorite. I have 10 on top, I'm going to
keep, I keep going back to the five King cause who's been
running at high level company at Aqueduct and Saratoga.
This is as much about the connections.
That anything else He's 1 for his last, eight starts with a
second and a third six out of eight times hitting the board.
I'm going to shorten up. Actually my tickets and just go
10-5 in this race. Yeah, for me, he's just got to
prove that he wants to get it the bit of extra ground, but
yeah, I'm banking on Jose Ortiz, being very good on Saturday.
That's also a thing. Okay.
So another rule that show, that we didn't really necessarily
talk about is that we have our own graded Stakes ranking so we
didn't do it on the first stage race though is is the law.
Proved Beyond a a great Three. Yes.
Yeah. Okay.
And is this a great Theory the will you wait about this race
this is a grade 3 okay legit great three we don't have a
problem to being a great three. We don't have trouble with the
lobby I don't yeah I don't have a problem with either one be a
grade 3. I agree.
They're not they're not great grade threes but we're going to
talk about race eight. I have a comment written down.
Exactly for this question. Go ahead.
There we go. Well, then let's move on.
Louie Let's just keep it. Let's keep this train going to
re see the inside information Stakes formerly ran as the
Shirley Jones stakes. And then it was named the inside
information Stakes. After 1995 Breeders Cup, just
half winner, and this is a Sprint race for Phillies and
Mayors. So Louis, this is that, this is
the worst grade to field we've ever talked about.
Wow. Wow, that's solid.
Pretty rough for sure. I agree with you.
I think this should be a listed Stakes race.
Wow, wow, wow. This is a we only were allowed.
And if you see, you saw it on Thursday and it was like the
feature race on Thursday. You'd be like, right?
Like yeah, totally, the only horse in here.
That is not. I mean, it's pretty, in my
opinion, it's for Grace, is on top.
That's my topic. Okay, so I think I think with
the backlash that she's running, she at least has a grade 3
horse, she has proven been some great Jews but like yeah.
But other than that and maybe Pacific Gail who's been in some
okay, races. You don't have a battery, just
don't have a lot of. Yeah, it's a lesson secret.
I wrote down. This is my spread race.
I'm having a hard time Discerning.
Who the best horses here? Mostly because of class and
that's exactly what Megan just mentioned.
Like it's so hard to pick out. Which of these Phillies mayor's.
This actually done, that kind of work before.
I have the eight just one time, just one time in the third spot,
I'll talk about her. Anyway, does she get up at our
first run for Brad Cox? Well, that bar and switch.
Be immediately fruitful. He went to 26 over 26 percent
overall, but at 18% on first time with trainer, that's good,
but for him, that's low. She was good at Penn National.
Will she be good on this weekend at girl stream?
The seven churches, part of One Last Time Out.
Parks prior to that. A five Furlong Turf race in
December of 2020. It's hard to ignore that most
recent result but who's to assume because of that Gap that
that formal. Hope I have the three dance
deorro on top. Believe it or not two wins.
And a third in the last three times out most recent win was a
less was a listed Stakes, so I like the recent Forum there.
So I'm going to I'm going to lean on that.
Traitor Todd, Pletcher goes Turf to dirt at 24%.
I love the to a g and e here because Was previously trained
by Doug O'Neill. Doesn't this feel like a?
Why not us Doug O'Neill move to put this course at a seven,
verilog dirty, not a pleasure. I'm going to trust a pleasure
who did an unbelievable job placing his horses in 2021
hasn't gotten stupid in a month. And that she said, okay, well
already 3287 and I've got for Grace's in the fifth spot and
here's why it's been a while since she's mattered in a race.
Ian Wilkes is who years 16 s off the layoffs in recent years.
I think she can win but I think she doesn't so three 2875 for
me. Okay, yeah, I've Got 5 as my
topic and Then followed up with 786.
Yes. I mean, we have a lot of the
same there but it's it's so just one time to me, you know, you
know what? She feels like Nick's Tommy.
Let's go. Who feels like picks go.
She just one time. I'm not saying she's as good as
Mexico. But remember, when Nick's Joe
wasn't good, wasn't it great. Right, right.
And then brag about the dirt raining it was like oh wait
horses the year. Oh wait.
So I feel like the turnaround with just one time will probably
be fine as far as moving over agree with you on that but
that's what yeah right exactly three two one coming out of
those types of races I mean she does have a pretty decent
record. She's 45 but like you said, who
did she beat it pain now And if I scroll down so so yeah and
then I added that Pacific Grill Gail as well for John Kimmel who
has that back class and actually is done pretty well.
Pawnee who experienced just seven year old Mary Therese 34
times, but she certainly seems to like it here at Gulfstream
Park and she's held your own against some pretty decent
horses. So so yeah, I think you can
spread in here. I just felt like for Grace's was
in a pretty good spot to come back.
She was she was really pretty good last year.
I mean the horses that she she raced against Wisconsin total a
she was in against Edge way. Byron s came in want a grade 3,
you know, Bells the one she was in against as well and that's
where she kind of had that fourth-place finish Venetian
Harbor when she popped up in the Raven Run and that's where she
lost her there. But, you know, if if you cross
out those races and the one time where she went a mile, obviously
she's a Sprint horses. Just want to go a mile.
I mean, she's got a record. That's nearly perfect.
So I think it was two years ago. Megan.
No, I know that. She's a tough one, this field
repair to Megan. That's how flawed this field is
because he only had one start and yeah, watch word in 2021,
right. So I insist, you had an injury
came back from an injury. She raced it a tough race
against Belleville on, it's gone said and whatever didn't run on
Lasix that day. Now she is not running on Lasix
again here today, which is maybe possibly a little concerning.
But I'm okay with the the time off, she still came back in a
Stakes race for her only start of the year because obviously,
she is a higher Caliber horse and then they brought her back
in a soft spot and an allowance race and she finished a good
second by a nose there. So to a horse that is in this
race and you all have got your garment Center.
Yeah, but I don't know. So by the way, something I love
in this place. Tommy specific Gil is out of is
by flat-out. Excuse me.
Three thousand dollar breeding. Yeah.
Jakarta is by Something called busting Stones, $2500 Pacific
Galas are in 650 $1000. At our life jakarta's made over
four hundred twenty five thousand even better Starship.
Paula the horse that Michael just talking about 15.
I like her a lot actually that's 100 for the stud fee and if we
Alec 6,500 feet 300 a very affordable hours is all the
horses in this field. That's what's cool about this
race. It's not a great too.
That's fine. All of these are horses of a
lifetime for the Breeders and for the owners.
Just laughs. I mean you have a hundred times
as much with the breeding fee. Was that's a crime you got to
not this times in here, not this time.
Obviously a sire that isn't necessarily proving any that
horses on the track and I think he's got three year olds of this
year. Four year old to this year, I
can't remember but but then you have a horse like the Ralph,
Nick Centre whose medaglia D'oro and that's a hundred thousand
dollars apiece. So if that's what you're going
by that I think you, you know, you got to take a look at it a
little bit, but yeah, it'll be interesting.
Testing to see to because the novice times, I have found at
least in the ones that I've watched and who was his big
Philly that he had last year. It ran in California for a
little bit, was in some of those big races you JD JD points out,
by the way, the girl many multiple time claimers in this
race, right? Yeah, me too.
That's my, my point is with some of the not this x is that I tend
to find them to be longer distance horses.
A lot of them, and obviously that depends on the mayor.
It because you've got that but he himself is such a robust,
large horse and I think some of his better Offspring have been
better, long distances worth mentioning, by the way,
sometimes the not grade twos make for really good bedding
races. It's true.
In the first leg 467, 11 5 and 10 in the third leg.
And then two, three, five, seven, eight sixty bucks on the
middle pick for the pick for take-out rate at Gulfstream is a
reasonable 20%, so if you want to play that one, there you go.
Alright, so let's move on to rayce 9 then which is the
Pegasus World Cup Filly and mare Turf Invitational mono 16th on
the grass in Florida. And who do you like here?
Louis? Apologies.
I walked away from the screen to try to find a my camera's dying
here, your cameras behind a little bit.
So to me, there is an obviously, classy mayor with a great jockey
and a great trainer. Give me the for Regal Glory.
As the single of this sequence, grade one winner.
Chad Brown, Jose Ortiz want to tell Marwan at Saratoga a
daughter of Megan's favorite Derby, winner, Hannibal.
I think she gets a good trip and I She's the most likely winner
actually on this entire card and so I will be singling the for
Regal glory in all of my tickets.
Wow. Okay.
I also have the 4 on top if you wanted to add some more worse
has I think you add the five gift list for Brian Lynch at
12:45 for some value or said really, isn't that a whole lot
wrong and just finished in the top three with including a win
and a great deal with Churchill Downs and the three races that
she has had here. In the United States before that
she was racing over in England and she had a couple of decent
races over there, but certainly is taken on a whole new form
since coming to the US of a and she's raised quite well without
the addition of Lasix. So, you know, you've got that
part that is an added factor on a day like this, I'm Pegasus
World Cup day. So I think that's certainly
something to keep in mind. Sweet.
Milani, as a horse, that we talked a lot about last year.
Yes, her sire American fare obviously is throwing a lot of
nice stir forces and I think He could come back here.
She had a lot of lot of early promise and she had some great
races in 2020. 2021 wasn't really her year.
I don't know if there was an issue there or what, but she
comes back after a little bit of a break in that race in
December, and she finished first there, but she did race against
them horses in this particular spot as well.
And she didn't win by that much and one by about half a length.
So I considered adding those horses which are the nines
Shifty she who was right there last time trained by sappy
Joseph. He does a good job here and also
the eight Saratoga, I'm sorry. Summer in Saratoga for Joe Sharp
who I find really interesting. I don't think that this mayor
has been given a lot of credit and she's actually done some
very good work in her career. You know, the race back at
Kentucky Downs on the September 11th in the ladies Turf.
Kentucky Downs is a really official weird track and I think
some horses either love it there or they just don't and the
Retches weird. And the terms are weird and
hills are weird and depending on what the weather's doing, that
could be weird, so she finished seven that day, but it was a
blanket finish. Only lost by just about Three
Links or whatever. But, you know, she is a horse
that I think has been pretty consistent, besides that, she
had one race where she stumbled, she had a bad forestry finish
behind, Laura's light who want a lot of good races in California.
So I 12:48, I think summer in Saratoga has a pretty decent
chance to run to run. Okay.
All the spa. There's a spa, the spa and JD
adding that lady b fear. Had a rough luck 2021 scratch
twice at Keeneland, including ones in the gate.
So always been to keep that in mind.
They, you know, I wish that it was something that occurred in
the former often. It's in the physical drf, but
the scratches, and that scratches and whatever from the
last time will show up, but you really have to keep Keep up with
that yourself. If you don't get the physical
form and read that, and I always find that to be very helpful.
Yeah, right. Also, JD adding that she wears a
barrier blanket now, which they use a lot in Australia and over
in England. But here, I don't think we
really talk about it as much so at all good note there.
Yeah. But that's another thing too is
like we don't have nearly the same information as far as the
quality is concerned. This is the kind of race by the
way, if you have a strong opinion, To go against Regal
Glory. This is where you could really
make hey some money. Yeah, right.
Well and also it's part of the right.
You have the opportunity if you want a single say that horse in
some of your early tickets, like your pick five, pick six or
whatever. But then you want to give
yourself more of a chance to say you you flop there and you need
more coverage in this race. Then you can kind of cover
yourself and hopefully recoup those losses towards the end of
the day. It's worth mentioning.
I mean, you're right because because I single in this leg, A
fifteen dollar late before it s, right?
And so, you know, you're totally right about that.
All right, I just say the show. I mean, we just talk about that
real quick. Here you go.
Thanks, is that a humble brag? Technically, I'm a little, I'm a
little out of breath, actually, so welcome to the club Louis and
I are 6-0. What was that shape?
All right, so we're going to move on to the Fred w Hooper.
Fred Hooper of course was a famous racehorse owner and
breeder one. The 1945 Kentucky Derby with
hoop Junior which is very unusual.
You're not supposed to name a horse Maybe I have you didn't.
I don't know. This is the mile on the dirt.
Megan, let's start with you. This is great three, by the way.
Okay, so I have one in the eighth and then maybe the six is
kind of exactly how I wrote it in my form.
I'm the one Fearless for Todd Pletcher, who's winning at a
measly 42%. The Source seems to have the
best. Numbers has a really good
record. 11, 45 lifetime for 45 years ago, Stream Park with the
only other race being a second-place finish 522 so that
it just seems pretty logical here.
Especially since this horse is 1 grade 2 races.
We're talking about a grade 3 race so I just don't think it's
Could it be that tough? Then you've got a horse like
Speakers Corner, who is going to make the first start of the
year, and he's done some good work in his, in his short
career. So far, he's 346 lifetime, he's
never erase your ghosting Park, never raced at this distance,
but they are going to take them over the Mi.
He's been over them out of six 18th in this past year races and
that seemed to work for him. He did not perform very well
over the Milan 8th, but it was also the grade one Pennsylvania
Derby and Mike's, first Hot Rod, Charlie was in there.
So and there was all that trouble with the night Bourbon
and whatever. But I think Speakers Corner
certainly a horse. You can you can think about if
you wanted another one, maybe Liam son of Williams map Train.
That's not Colonel William. It's just Liam.
Yeah, just straight up. Liam and S are not the layups
one back in December. And yeah, I mean Ransom, okay.
Numbers was was the heavy favorite performed exactly.
Like he should have that day so I don't know that.
Is really so impressive as it was just a validation that the
source came back. Well off of a really extended
layoffs but I really think it's it's the one in the eat.
I really enjoyed it. I really hope Genesis moment
actually. Like I just I just hope that
horse. I feel so bad for that horse.
You know. I don't know.
So bad but go ahead Lily. All right now it's cool.
Yeah. Dale, Romans must be 1987.
All right, so the um I think the eight speakers corners on top
for me I have the In the second spot.
I think he's a one turned specialist.
If you look back, he's a once or specialist who wants a mile or
more he wanted that Milan 62 Velma, that's one turn right
comes back, tries to win over to at Aqueduct at losses by less
than a length. He's one of belmonte's, one of
the high-level allowance at Saratoga solid.
Jockey trainer numbers at Gulfstream Park, I think he's a
top selection. I do like the to locals Megan
mentioned, the one Fearless totally.
I think the nine geronimo's attack has a big shot.
He ran a super fast. Pair of miles at a minute, 34 at
a minute. 35. One of those, he beat can
Guillermo. And next, I canti can't braces
at Gulfstream Park. Fearless One.
The Gulfstream Park mile under I read last year, totally capable
in the spot. I'm 8 1 & 9.
I'll take, I'll tell you what. If you got a grade 3 winner at
last time, out who's 12:45? I'm going to officiating.
I like that. Okay.
All right. Levin Leone, what does he know?
Yeah. Besides thousands of wins there
right? I mean that's that's you know I
mean I was a good and good speed to so alright the 11th race is
the Pegasus World Cup Turf. Invitational this is the grade 1
mile 8 on the turf and the prize is 1 million dollars.
Meghan, have you like here? What?
I can't believe he didn't go to me first.
I know who you're gonna pick? No, I mean it's fine with me if
you want to oh my God you guys. Okay right.
Well he is clearly feel bass. I mean if you don't like you're
you're fired from the show pretty.
We're trying to have a civilization people.
Yeah I mean I actually also No has filled backs on top and
sends one so there you go. I knew that was gonna be.
Why don't you have a good t-shirt?
Thank you so much pain. We need to have a life.
We have that. Yes but we got to work on it
just it's just a good memory of luo Yin stable boys time
together. That's all this.
I don't know. Stable boy, I know that's what
makes it even better. I don't get it.
That's what makes it even better.
It's JD before. He's a poor man's JD, very
hopeless. Homeless.
No, no, no. He was not easy.
For those of you that don't know, I'm not the best one to
explain. It was awesome, selling seat,
fix Class on class.
Right already want to go through a park like this distance.
I'm not really too worried about the layoffs and Big Mike Baker
knows how to get his horses. Ready off of them, excited
laugh. He wins it 16% with horses, come
back after 61 to 180 days and I like the fact that this horse is
adjustable, you know? I mean he has led before, but he
can also stalk and kind of save some ground there so he's not
necessarily a horse that needs to run in a particular spot.
You know, you talk about some others in here like Channel cat.
I think those his best running on the front end, for sure.
So you're kind of locked That position but I think a murderer
rispoli who actually was aboard. The source last time for the
win. It has a little bit more wiggle
room for what he wants to do and how they break from The Starting
Gate in that Post Number 9. So I've got field passed on top
just like the running of this horse is done.
I think he's in a good spot to come back.
I like space traveler quite a bit at 12:48.
JB Spencer's board who actually is a good friend of Brendon
Walsh and he's done some some good writing all over the world
but blinkers go on for this one. Brendon Walsh blinkers on 19%.
Want this horse though does definitely need a pace that up
so this is one that is going to just break through gate nice and
easy and you know save some ground and then hopefully come
running there at the end which I think gave me Spencer is an
excellent choice therefore a jockey because you know he has
that style maybe a little bit more than some of your American
jockeys. The eight horse as well, is
sacred life for Chad Brown and Jose Ortiz.
It hasn't run so far this year but same thing has that back
class. I think as a similar words to
feel bad so I think they're both solid entries in here and then
the six horse is currently up for Todd Pletcher and this one
comes out of that men-hattan in the the grade one and finish ate
that day or didn't really do too much and that s June of twenty,
twenty one. So it's been a while.
Since this horse has been competitive at the races but
Fletcher winds at 25 percent three courses back after like a
vacation that lasted forever, then, you know, you just really
can't argue with this horse. Is record 2 for 2 at this
distance to Purdue ago, she park and 649 lifetime.
So it just certainly seems like he likes to win and he's another
one of those forces that usually does his best running stock in
the pace. But I just feel like he's a
horse, that takes a breath a little bit easier than some of
the others in here. Alright, Andres, 12, I'll just
show him we go ahead. All right, field passes on top.
I don't know. I appreciate that other horses.
Showed up the fuel pass Invitational.
Awesome Peridot rispoli. Who needs to move his acting
Kentucky because of fear. I'm actually the most
interesting thing to me in this race is if Colonel how Colonel
Liam shows up right? Because he's the best horse here
but the layoff is the layoffs but punches great off of
layoffs, right? And so coming back, integrated
one spot. By the way, this is a great to
field. I'm not convinced.
That this is a super high level grade 1.
So I think Colonel Liam can absolutely win.
I have the 12 in the third spot, never surprised.
Seven races for wins three seconds first time, against four
and up. So it'll be fun to watch him.
Adjust this. Is that time of year where we
watch to your old become three-year-old.
Cereals become four-year-old move into those four and up
races, but I'm 96 12, five and eight here.
I think Megan hit the road Megan.
And I talked about before, I think Tyler's got a chance to
have a big day. This was Dan blacker's, first
grade one winner. And I think he's a really
excellent trainer in Southern, California.
If that California speed thing, travels to Hallandale, this will
be the horse that wins. So I'm going to include the five
and then the eight sacred life like Megan mentioned is field
passes Joker or the the Spider-Man mean were there like
pointing at each other? That's sacred life.
If you can get filled, password to one and sacred. 4621 that
field past. Like that's not a question, but
whatever it is include those two horses.
Like I said, 96 12 5 and 8 for me here.
All right, so we're going to move on to the Pegasus World
Cup, a mile and eighth on the dirt.
The Big Show of the weekend. No horse has ever won
back-to-back Pace World Cups, right?
This is the swansong fornix co 3 million dollars on the line
going with Nick's go or you going to get some Megan would
say you. I'm going with Nick's go.
I do really like life is good and I think we're going to see
basically those doors is and then everybody else like 12
lengths behind, but I like the fact that Nick's go is just had
so much more experienced over the extra distance.
The my underneath is really I think makes all the difference
here. You know, you've got a horseshoe
really seem to appreciate that amount of quarter and life is
good might certainly impress here and step up you know the
one time he went a little bit further was the mile and 16 but
he was in the San Felipe but and Medina Spirit was the second
place finisher, but I just would have liked to have seen more
longer distance races for him because those races in
California. Just don't, you know, don't
impress so much anymore. When I mean that One at least
had seven horses, right? But like we see these five horse
fields and forwards fields and whatever.
And it's like it's so cliche but then you get into it and you're
like well, who did they beat and beat Maddie the spirit?
But I don't know. I I really, really like the way
that he performed in the Breeders Cup juvenile.
I just don't know if I'm Lonnie against a horse.
Like Nick's go who's also a speed Horse by the way.
So it's really just going to be a test of stamina and for horse
that hasn't shown that he has that salmon because he hasn't
had the opportunity to You I say you go with what works and
that's Nick's go it. I think the important thing
about life is go, life is good that people watch and they see
it and it's super impressive. He is super, he's obviously
talented, so that's absolutely isn't it.
And I know you're not saying that he's running the mile in a
buck, 34 life is good as running the mile at a buck 34 to Buck
35, and then going another for a long ride me.
Next to go, Is doing that and then still has the rest of the
stamina to the myelin a. So I'm with Megan, I think
however it would be it would be prudent to include both on
tickets if you can afford it, if I took life is good off by pick
for ticket, it's 750, which means I could play it three
times or four times and have a reasonable price ticket, right?
That kind of thing. If I really thought next goal
was, was the winner. I look back now and I regret
having essential quality on my tickets in the Breeders Cup
Classic With Mexico because he was never not going to win all
of his works. By the way at Fairgrounds have
been very, very good. He seems to not hate the track
at Gulfstream in the videos that I've seen this week and so I am
going to have to make a decision between now at 9:15 Eastern on
Thursday and I p.m. or I guess like 3:00 p.m.
I guess when I put my tickets together on Saturday.
If I'm going to single Nick score, if I'm going to include
life is good. There's a serious chance that
this is life is good. Coming out party, right?
It really is yeah it really is because he's not talented and
he's got the right training and all that.
It's the rare case. By the way, when someone leaves
the baffert barn and stays at that level or maybe even
improves with pleasure. I mean, it people don't like GT
with the, the facts. Here are two All-Star producer
and everything, but Nick's go winning would allow him to
become the first ever to win the Pegasus World Cup after winning
The Cornhusker handicap in Altoona.
Iowa, love it. I don't want you to start it off
at Ellis Park. Do, who is your third best horse
in this race Megan? Do I have to have them?
It's just going to be a blanket finish between the rest of them,
but trust Chief, you think so? Okay.
Sir. Winston by the way, is only the
second sir, once he's 96 years old, by the way, the only one
that 2019. Yeah, I mean I think I think
probably I don't know, even though he's like a sprinter
endorse loss and doors lost to officiating last time in that
basement in one of the other one, there's no way.
Chest chest. He finishes second behind.
Nick behind life is good. Do you just like, I mean, that's
a show bed, right? We could just get it to show,
all right, we have another track to go to JD.
Can you pull up my bets for the late sequences here at
Gulfstream for us? Thank you, sir Les pick for.
Like I said, it's 15 bucks. Single in that for that first
leg with the floor than 1895 6, 8 9 12 and then one and the four
in the last for 15 bucks. Like I said if you feel strongly
in that last leg you can actually Morton that if you feel
like life is good, this is coming out party or if x goes to
have a good signing off, you can play that for a buck or two
bucks. The late pick five, I have a 75
dollar ticket to take out at Gulfstream.
Is 15% of the late Pick 5 so that might actually be the
better play. I five horses in the first leg 2
3 5 7 8 then a single 4189 5 6, 8 9 and 12 and then the one in
the for in the last 75 dollars. If you're playing the pick-6,
it's not a mandatory payout. Don't play the pick six.
I'm putting it on the screen because I have to There's my pic
6 S, I have a 60 dollar picks extinct.
Don't play that good. So we're doing move to we're
going to be essentially a 42%. Right, right?
So don't play don't play. Don't do it.
We're gonna move on to the Martha Washington at Oaklawn.
Louis was was hinting at this race being something that he
thinks there's a superstar. This isn't Oaks Point Race and
the winner of this race last year was, oh, um, she found out
he was the Dallas Stewart Philly.
Yeah. She finished third in the Oaks.
Oh my God. Yeah, that one you are correct.
It is Will secret. We'll see.
I'm not going to tell you who the Martha Washington State's is
named after because if you don't know, you should go back to
elementary school. So humble brag will secret never
left my top 5 evokes. Never After that's right.
That's true. I loved her and she came out 33
to 1. Finished third in the office.
Keep going. That's why you need.
That's why I need to point it out right.
Another winners of this race. Just so we know.
The first ever was won by a horse named eight Bells.
The second-ever was named one by Named Rachel Alexandra.
So, yeah. Whoo, it's great.
But a pedigree. Well, yeah, this is, this is,
this is got some, you know, we haven't had too much lately, but
also little-known humblebrag fact, Marquis, Miss won this
race. And I was hanging out with
Andrew Mason a lot back then and I got, that was the one time I
got to walk and Oaks horse from the stable, like onto the track.
So human, that was kind of cool but and marking Miss didn't
finish the Oaks because Stevens Pulled up on her butt and, you
know, she was fine. It was, we went back to the
owners place that they were written afterwards and had
dinner and no one was happy. Let's just put it that way.
Alright, yeah. Alright, so we're going on
Louis, I mean you kind of already gave us this huge like
tease about this superstar that we're going to see.
So why don't you go ahead and tell us who the superstars going
to be? I think hope is that this field
only pulled six horses by the way, especially with the
Probably out there in California.
I mean, I guess anger by the way.
He's got another horse in this race.
All right? Go ahead.
Yeah, I think the three Como Square.
Third time's daughter who's done nothing wrong in her first, two
starts daughter of into Mischief, John Velazquez Brad,
Cox. He is 33 percent going Sprinter
out. It is Sprinter out season or as
the kids say, Susan SE SE, n that it's that time of year and
that's where we, I was bad. I think they come 0 square.
This is her coming-out party. This is it?
I think she is. More talented than will secret.
I think the breeding is there, for sure.
Obviously, the six secret oath the for optionality are obvious
contenders they've both done well at a mile.
All their connections make sense.
I get it. But I actually think this is
Como square is coming out party. I don't think you get five to
two. I think you get 722 on the
source. And so, this is my obvious wind
better. The day in the Martha,
Washington coast where. All right, Megan, you hate this
race? Go for it.
I also have Como Square. I don't hate this race.
I just don't love it. Like Louise.
Yeah I mean come on squared sanctions anything wrong cheaper
to. She's half brother to Caddo
River who Brad Cox also trains. It was good in some races and so
it's the first time we're going to see this one stretch out but
like you mentioned she is into Mischief which recently that
seems to be a good thing. Matters were depending on the
mirror for longer distances, so she still does have a lot to
prove. Then you have a horse like
optionality who last time, went the distance of I'll granted it
was at Remington Park and she won by eight lengths as she
should have at Remington Park. And so she has proven herself a
little bit more of her distance. But again, you just have a lot
of Phillies in here who are kind of still finding their feet.
But those divorces I think are certainly worth including and
then I definitely think you have to include the six secret oath
because we mu cos although, you know the past couple years for
him haven't really been great. Eight, he's running at 12
percent right now, which is decent.
This is a horse who had really one baffert and that was in the
Golden Rod, which was a grade to.
This is not a great to, it's a listed Stakes race and I don't
think this field is probably the same as what she faced there,
but she graduated by five lengths at Churchill Downs, and
shit was a pretty good race for her.
And then at Oaklawn Park, at least she has a race over a
longer distance at this track and she That by eight lengths as
well. So to me secret oath feels like
the will secret of this field. I think with her experience, I
don't love that you to one price that I don't think we see that
on her when it comes to race. I think that'll be higher.
We'll see how she does with that Lasix here.
Yeah, yeah. For sure.
And that's, that's something to be considered for all those
horses. At least Como square is had that
win without Lasix and and occipital, both broker remain,
without Lisa session, with David?
Yeah. So, And then you have a words
like princess Polly into kind of a, I didn't include but she's
still a maiden. She's done most of her race and
yeah, starting with that Lasix. But you know, she she's and this
fire for Steve asmussen and it certainly seems like she's a
horse who should appreciate the extra Grand.
She had a second place over. That was her best finish but
she's sorry, bacterial and her. Damn is Keen.
Pauline, right? Exactly.
Who, you know, had some good teachers to turn Reese's.
So it seems like the longer the Better for her, but she just
hasn't really been able to find her feet.
So I don't know what that that's about for her.
But yeah. So I went, I went three for I'm
sick about way. I mean, we got to talk real
quickly after the, you know, we were not hard on them, but, you
know, point out that, you know, fantastic, housewife struggled,
so much last year, Oakland's been a whole different gig for
him and he's really have nothing.
I have notes about that for the Southwest, okay, well, I didn't
mean it like, you know, crap on You remove that we're on the
same page. It's good.
Yeah, that's good. Yeah, well, I don't be good to
see good part of it too, and, and this was going on and, you
know, before that happened, but I think it only exacerbated the
problem. But Ricardo is really close to
Miguel Mina. And so, his passing was at least
he said in his own words, that was a big factor into him, just
not being able to kind of figure it out and feel it again, so
it's good to see him, you know, kind of get back in the saddle
here and do well at Oaklawn Park.
Or after mourning his friend a little bit.
And we'll move on to that Southwest Stakes, which is
racing on 750,000 dollars and some Derby points, timid, 30
points. It would be exact on the line
here in the southwest Stakes, which is a great 37 and fifty
thousand dollars. For grade 3 is nothing to shake
out there, that's pretty good. Mama 16th on the dirt obviously
will let Megan go first here. Megan who do you like it's
really good to see David Cohen. Get him out like Dash attack and
here he's just Great. Great guy and you're running the
show. You exactly.
Patamon before I love the fact, this cold was one Bulls of his
only starts of course, and both of those rat, a mile distance.
So he gets a little bit more ground here at the mall and a
16th, but he's done nothing wrong.
So far, he does, he's seems to be just a little bit paste,
dependent possibly. So that could be his one
Achilles heel. If he doesn't get the, you know,
he doesn't have the setup in front of him, but he wasn't that
far away from the leaders in his debut race.
When he It was just sitting off the pace so I don't know that
it's that big of an issue for him, but it's just something to
mention, you know, he's a son of money.
So typically you think money is like a mi printer, right?
But we are talking about being on the Derby Trail longer
distance races, but he's proven that he's done.
Just fine so far, the hard spun mayor to.
So he I mean there's there's at least a little breeding there,
right? For sure.
The 12 horse in here is Vive are for Brad Cox at 12:48 gets the
blinkers on here which brought adcox twins at 23 percent.
When doing that you get full rajguru in the irons and he's
written The Source ones before was actually in the grade to
Kentucky, jockey Gold Cup, right?
Jockey Club. Got whatever it is, you know,
you know that race. Who's the most I'm talking like
three days and thank you, appreciate it.
But yeah, I think this horse is going to is going to turn back
around here and be on the improve especially with the
first time. Bleeker's might be able to focus
a little bit more. I would expect him to be a
little bit quicker here. He graciously outside post.
So I do think flourish room. I try to get that early
positioning especially with the horse who like I said has the
shades on him today and or Saturday and then the and is
Newgrange. For Bob baffert.
Why didn't I include Barbara road?
I don't remember. I think I watched, I watched the
replay there for that horse. We know Louis is going to
include by Road, by the way, but I really wanted to but it's I
didn't I didn't quite I try to watch as many replays as
possible, but I definitely always watch the replays if
there's something, you know, indicative of, I don't know a
variable right in in the race. So it says traffic up late, s.
So okay, what is the traffic valid?
The same thing, if it's a stumble from the gate, all of
that, you got to watch it and see what you really think.
I didn't really see the traffic that much.
I mean there was a lot of horses turning for home and they were
just kind of all spread out wide.
And yeah, the worst got up for But he was still a solid two
legs off the leader. Like it wasn't like a plate,
like almost got there. I mean, the horse wasn't even,
maybe maybe really Gutierrez is already wrapped up on him was
really trying but I mean he likes laundered in for a second
like he wasn't gonna, he wasn't doing much.
He wasn't ever gonna win that race so I didn't love that
performance as much as I thought I would watching it, but
Newgrange done, nothing wrong. So far.
What it takes for a long as wanted a mile and the Sham Which
was applied force field right in California but, you know, he's
gonna have some speed. So, yeah, so we'll see if Bob
does, what Bob does? Yeah, right.
So I do have Barbara Road on top, fantastic housewife,
Ricardo City, Junior and Steve as mohsen.
That's just never going to happen for me.
This horse rate as the last two times out stretched out last
time. Over a sloppy go we're going to
have, you know, dryer? Good, go this time.
I think you'll do much better baffert shooter here is
obviously talented, the 10 new, Grange Starlight has three
horses out west in the San Vicente.
I think there's a region they sent this horse to Arkansas.
I guess the bigger field. I think they think a lot of the
stores. The two dash attack to me, of
course, from the show, David Cohen.
Um obviously clue done, nothing wrong in two races.
Getting me become very good with three year old so I meet and
it's 12. So I real quick because we
talked about this a lot last year at the end of the year and
we got we got fantastic outpoint housewife on a horse.
He's never met him before. Sure he's got to ask my son
horses in here that he has ran on before.
Although not regularly has not been the regular jockey on
either one of them. Do we read into anything that
that Didn't match up at all that ask most and didn't go with
Ricardo on. Either one of these horses are
Ricardo turned him down. I mean, what is there anything
to read in there? As far as their relationship
goes I know he's on other asmussen horses in the con the
card. I just think there's some
interesting Dynamics going on there.
Something tells me there's some interesting Dynamics going on
there. I mean for example like classic
moment the nine as Marty Garcia he's fine but like I don't think
Steve thinks he's gonna win for example, and saying, probably
with the other one would cost the Tara.
Yeah, right. So I don't know that.
That's what that is. I do think that for me I think
Barbara has a significantly better chances, so we might just
be a thing where Ricardo just said, hey I got chance someone
on this horse, I'm gonna take this male kind of thing,
probably. Okay.
Alright. The prayer though, get a chance
because he's a great guy and just a solid Rider from
California. And he always was, like the
second or third call guy for a lot of barns but like he, he
rides he really tries every day. I'm and Ricardo's on in race and
race Aid in the hundred thousand dollar allowance, he's on
Steve's horse. So it's I mean it's he has been
riding for a man waiting for him a lot.
Yeah, both of those things are true.
Yes. Right.
So then we get but we're gonna see it kind of again here in the
10th race. Not really because, you know,
the Nashville, we get to see. Finally.
I mean, I feel like we watch that horse, just destroyed a
Keeneland and then it's just incredible and then, you know,
just wait wait after that, so Um, but he's back, french cheese
on them and Ricardo's on the one, Hollis my going for Ortiz.
Again, you know, riding around in Ortiz horse.
Again, it's this. I mean, we might see a great
show Even though this is just a list of steaks at King Cotton
six, furlongs on the dirt hundred fifty thousand dollar
purse, four, year, olds, and up. I think we might see a good down
the stretch between these two horses.
What do you want? Would say, you guys i-i've.
Got the six Nashville on top. I think it's a Pretty obvious
one and I do think this horse is going to win this race.
Probably I added the fork illusion illusion kind of
hesitantly. I mean they put the blinkers on
this horse last time. It obviously did not work out
because it was his worst result of his life - the Breeders Cup
Sprint where he just kind of gave up.
I think he's you think he's down?
Did I think he's been in again? Some some top horses before.
This is Probably a much, much much easier field than some of
that. The ones he's had to deal with
out there because there is a pretty decent, you know,
especially older horse print, division in California, a lot of
the time. So so I like them, I don't love
them but I like them and then the 7 horse Bob's Edge for Larry
Jones and like that. You known as just as only had
one or a couple of races rather without Lasix.
One of those is a win early on in his career to spread.
Distance. And then he's had some other
races here at Oaklawn Park where they've been at a lower level.
But I'd be interested to see what he does.
He definitely seems to be a horse at least recently that
need something to close at. So we'll see see what he does.
By the way, we also have a new one.
So we have the horse in here, narrate, the, a horse actually
won this race last year, old or so.
Yes, right. Yeah, go ahead.
Louis. I think illusion illusions on
top. Here, I'm looking for a massive
bounce. A cure from an October laid off
and just really good works recently at Santa Anita, I think
the drug. This is a massive drop in class
for this horse from what he's been running on California
against horses. Like dr.
Shovel and charlatans and whatever else Megan is there any
chance our boy hot? Right?
Hot long-range tiny, excuse me? I'm rich.
Daddy gets it done here. Any chance?
I just I think that horse is so cute.
He's got a little face. You and I both had him in the,
in an optional claim and no, no, here's Titus, right?
No, your son. It was the race.
I had him when he won at Oaklawn when he was a three-year-old,
okay? I don't know what you and I
picked him independently as a massive upset.
I yeah. It was either the optional
claimer at Churchill or the in the aristides, but trying trying
a sprinting distance for the first time I think was your
study sexually. Um I don't know seems like old
sprinting geldings do well at Oakland schools.
Yeah what are you talking about Whitmore?
Maybe yeah yeah we get it, we get it.
But for some reason you and I both liked him turning into a
sprinter. But yeah on top and I just I'll
see it when I'll believe it. When I see it with with
Nashville. I think there's a chance that
it's not going to happen and I'll have Hollis in the second
spot, the one, okay. All right, so great first show
of 2022, I thought yes a little long but that's okay.
We have done. We have done this in a while.
We know we had fun, read a lot to catch up on and it was good.
And we talked about we got we got major stakes races coming
next week with the Holy Bull, the withers and the robbery
Louis and of course, will be here to talk about all of it.
And just so our listeners are aware.
We're doing something that we didn't, you know, we're adding
something new to the show. So now, when we upload the, the
podcast episode, the replay, if you didn't listen to us live, it
will include the video on Spotify.
So, if you go to Spotify, you can actually watch the show as
well as listen to it and see all the great graphics and shout out
to JD for his help and all that was fantastic.
So, really excited about the year ahead, guys.
And It's gonna be a lot of fun and I think we got some other
big announcements to come hopefully really soon as well.
So, great show any parting words from either one of you all I
just, I just don't know what? Yeah, yeah, we are fancy.
Whatever. Lily, what do you got?
I mean, not a lot, but, I mean, just excited that I love these
early. These early three-year-old,
preps are very fun to watch and watch horses, develop and go to
terms of first time, those sorts of things.
It's a, it's a good time of year for sure.
All right. Well, it's time to pay the tab.
And get out of here. I'll see you next time on the
horse racing. Happy hour.
