It does mean I I hear that music, Barry and then I turn

into Charlie Murphy in the buck nasty eat rolls.

Just turn into it with SoCal Saturday's lunar bow.

I'm in a guest room at my parents house.

I apologize for the set up here, but it's Thanksgiving for deal

with Teddy's Berry Spears, the urban ADA gaffer, the sniper.

We call me around here. You're due to the show every

Friday we hang out and we cap hard in Southern California.

Moving to Los Ale real soon, but Del Mar is the target this

weekend. Really excited to get going with

that as well. Very good a day to you Sir.

Did you eat ham or Turkey? A.

Little. Both Little.

Both. The correct answer is all of it,

yes. So there you go.

I am of course in the only thing that could happen to me.

I got to go to the Lions Thanksgiving game for the first

time in my life. And of course they play like the

Lions of my youth, not the team that was around for the last two

seasons. I got 1990s Lions where they had

Barry Sanders who couldn't win playoff games.

That's what I got yesterday. My 13 year old got the full

experience of being a Lions fan yesterday, which is, oh, isn't

this place nice? And the team suck because that's

what we do in Detroit. So Dave, that that was my

Thanksgiving. Barry, you doing?

Alright, they played good. They played good though.

I I mean, they hung tough. It was a good game to watch at

least. It was a fun in person, I won't

lie to you. Yeah, that part was it was it

was a fun one for sure. And Ford Field's awesome.

And then Eminem just popped out of the out of the ground at

halftime. Like they literally rolled him

out in something and made him pop out at halftime.

So there you go. As they should.

Things that only happened in Detroit so they no one else

wants that around their stuff. Move on.

We will tap the entire card. That's what we do on this show.

Bury three major stakes races to close the card here and close

frankly the season at Del Mar as well.

I I texted you earlier. This is a fun card.

Yeah, yeah, Top to bottom 11 races, full fields, you know, no

rest for the weary. I mean, this, this card is is

pretty good. I I know the the end of the card

is a little iffy, but pretty much the whole card is is very

nice and it should have. Some opportunities.

There are two. Yeah, there's two jobs at the

end. Yeah, you and I saw many of the

same things. Again, we're always presented by

Amwager. The great folks over there at

amwager.com live in California. And of course, a $150.00 match

right now, 100% up to $150 on your bonus.

New customers at amwagerandamwager.com.

Go check them out. We will have Barry's boring play

of the day today, and I'm sure at some point we will go inside

the mind of Spears. No one wants to be there, but we

will do it anyway. But we move on and we start.

Barry goes first on odd races. Race 1 is on the grass.

Are all of your races on the grass today?

I was actually. Thinking a lot of them I I know

they were touting this card as. Being every OK, every odd, every

odd race is a derf race. So Barry will go first on all

the turfs and I'll go first on all of the dirts.

By the way, this is what California should do.

This is it. This is the layout. 11 races, or

nine of them. Six of the 11 are turf.

Five of the nine are turf. This is what they.

So I'm very, very happy to see it for sure as we get into

closing weekend. Again, an optional claimer on

the turf here going a mile, $34,000 on the here.

Barry and I thought a fun one to kick off the card for sure.

Oh yeah, this is a really nice race.

I mean, it's got that 50K starter allowance, 50K moniker,

which a lot of these horses fall into.

So you're going to get a lot of competitive events at this

level. This is no exception.

You got some horses coming out of the Let It Ride.

Yeah, right. Not to let it.

Ride the the 50K on October. 20. Yeah, and there's some, you

know, these horses are are, are really tough to kind of handicap

because they're, you know, a lot of three-year olds and they're

they're just kind of getting their their feet wet.

They're establishing themselves as as turf entities out there.

I ended up on number five. Time to shine.

I'll say longer shot here. Yeah, right.

I I thought this horse ran a pretty good race in that October

25th race that a lot of these horses are coming out of the,

the horse was actually wide in a six horse field and and kind of

stuck in the same position the whole way around.

Didn't move positions at all. And I think that's going to do

this horse a lot of good in this race because I think the field

is going to actually kind of thin out a little bit,

especially up front. This horse could probably get

good position and good striking range.

I I think this horse is going to get first run on horses like

Aloramo and definitely the two cat, the confidante who should

be come from way back. So I think that might make all

the difference here getting first run.

Barry landing 5, two and four in race one.

I should put that up on the screen for everybody and be a

good host here. So there you go, 5, two and four

for Barry here. You and I land on the same

horse. Time to shine.

The other part of this that I really like Barry, and I'm not,

this is an angle that matters for me, but it's like a 5%

angle. But if you look at trader Mark

Glatt, he wins at Del Mar at 12%.

Guess what he does with Antonio Fraser, he was at 22%.

There's something about how they connect to Del Mar.

There's something about how his horses are placed there that

seems to work really well. Frankly, not a great start to

the meet at Fraser, who's now up to 18%.

So he's been riding really well lately in these kinds of spots.

And this is just a horse that fits Barry.

Two runs of Del Mar, 2 seconds and guess what they were in this

condition. This is one where if this horse

just gets a little bit better, she could definitely push

through. I went 579 here, so I'll talk

about the seven horses. Well in my Yako is only a one

time winner, 12 out, but gets into the Papa Pedromo barn.

He's 23% with first time replaces them really, really

well. This what's been spring was in a

claimer, ran second. Did all the work early on under

Horatio Kimanos at Colonial of all things, this horse getting

moved by ownership out West after a race most recently at

Indianapolis sprinting. This is one that wants the

distance get back to a mile. I think we'll be positive for

this one. So Mayako lands second for me.

Edwin Maldonado getting the mark.

Excuse me. The ride there and then the 9

Infinity dream another 8 to 1 and a guy who's really figured

it out in Southern California is Mirko tomorrow, who's now 10 for

his last 33 at Del Mar Really put it together.

I'll be honest, for a while at Santa Anita, he was an auto toss

for me man. And he I think he got to like

I'm not picking on the guy, but 3 for 70 something like that to

start his time at Santa Anita. It just wasn't good.

And so he gets pilot Infinity dream here, like I said, has

gotten that win percentage up significantly in North America

has a chance to be the best winner or best rider by

percentage at this meet at San Diego.

Excuse me at Del Mar, it's all about 579 in race one here.

As we get going with our show here, this is so Cal Saturday's

on the horse racing happy hour network.

We're presented by Amwager and amwager.com.

Even numbered race means I go 1st and even numbered race means

we're going going back to the dirt $10,000 claimer for non 2

lifers here. 5 1/2 on the dirt, 18,000 up on up for grabs here.

And Barry, you win the three here, who is even money boy, you

and I, And I know you don't want to.

I want to be really clear. I'll defend Barry before he gets

on gets back on the bike here. But it is really interesting to

me to see the OK. So one of the things you and I

have really liked about these 8010 thousand kind of restricted

races that we're seeing more and more in Southern California is

that they're hyper competitive. So it sucks to see you picking a

one to one horse, you know, even money horse here in this spot.

And so I went to the four horse right next to it.

Did I go to the four? Oh, I did yeah, I did.

All right, I'm going to try 12 to one and Kyle Frey here.

I am praying to God that that Emerald Downs form shows back up

for this horse at Del Mar. So essentially I'm just going to

draw a hard line through the race at Santa Anita and hope

that I get back to that horse that broke its maiden a couple

of races back at Emerald Downs. Frankly, this is one that broke

its maiden, then was disqualified out of a win, ran

back against Maidens and then improved in its showing against

that mating group. Next time out under Amador, by

the way, who's ridden down to Southern California as well.

Dropped Lasik's last time for this horse.

It did not work. We get the Lasix again, we're

throwing the blinkers on, try to be closer to the pace, like this

was what this one was for. It's two frankly wins at Emerald

Downs, one of those disqualification moving to 2nd.

So give me the Tamayo trainee here, the four horse 12 to one

to try to get into this one. Barry, go ahead and be boring

and I'll make your boring play of the day.

Yeah, I'm going to be super duper boring here because

despite the speed shown by the four in the past, I have no

inclination that that horse is going to get in front of the

three. What's the Buzz?

It's basically what's the Buzz's race to win or lose.

There's nobody else that can get in front of this horse and I

think this horse gets the run of the race, wins at a very, very

short price. That being said, Majestic

Palisades, the second fastest runner in this race, will finish

second for the $2.80 exacta with the $7.00 try with the five

coming in 3rd. Just picking up the pieces.

That horse is just a a lone closer has the speed figures

that that are comparable between the three.

Well, three, five and six have all sort of run similarly as far

as speed figure wise. I think that's going to be the

the try no matter what happens. 365 for Barry.

I'm going to go 4 three and six here.

Largely agree with Barry's analysis on the other horses

here. Majestic Palisades absolutely

part of the the the speed here in in Lebrano Brosio, of course,

very good in sprints out West as well.

SoCal Saturday's rolling on Race 3 back on the turf means we

talked to Barry first. This is a maiden special for

Phillies that are two years old going a mile on the turf in this

one. Barry.

The other race that I thought was pretty fun and frankly one

that you and I do not agree on. And you landed on the three

horse in here who frankly didn't land in my handicapping at all.

What do you like about Hawaiian Moon?

Yeah, this source is coming out of the Michael McCarthy barn and

he notoriously does not really try it all with first time

starters. This horse didn't run all that

poorly against a a few horses that have are running against

again and soul sister and and surfing USA and surfing USA is a

lot more formidable, I think. But the damn suspicious spouse

for Hawaiian moon vastly improved when switching to the

turf and I think we might catch lightning in the bottle.

I I I think this horse might get a better run of it.

Didn't get a good chance at it early and they kind of packed it

in and I think that was expected.

Attracts Johnny V, which was interesting as well and the

workout patterns since that race.

Kind of seems like this horse is on the improve fits here.

I'll give this one a shot 15 to 1.

I I don't think we're going to get that just based on

connections alone. I'd say probably half that and

I'd be OK with that. Yeah, I think 810 to 1 is

totally on the on the on the at least a possibility for

Hawaiian. This one who you just very much

talked me into. I'll go to the 9 on top here for

Ramayana who I I just like the progression here.

This is Richard Mandela. This just feels like what he

does third start here, second time routing gets Umberto in

this spot. I think that you know, son of

Uncle MO never been worse than second and two runs.

I just I think this one just makes way too much sense there.

So I'll land on the 9 on top. I'll go 95 and 1 here.

Barry, I know you've got the five third in your handicapping.

I'll let you talk about the eight horse in just a second

here. But Surfing USA comes in here.

I think that's my second horse. Want to make sure?

Yep, Surfing USA comes in here. They'll throw all the blinkers

on, which I like here. This is a horse that sprinted

twice and I was going to a a route as well and I don't have

the numbers on 2 sprints to route for Leonard Powell, but

he's essentially a 10% trainer going Sprint to route here.

This is one that I think you know, this is a Rock Your World

and we're still learning about the Rock Your Worlds in general.

But a Santa Anita Derby winner, right?

A horse that can go the two turns.

Interesting that they've only put this one on the turf, but

that's a reminder. Rock Your World a Son of Candy

ride. So obviously still try to figure

out if this one's going to be a turfer or a dirt.

But throwing the blinkers out, I like the one Hernandez here.

And I think just getting the added distance here makes a lot

of sense, especially as far as pedigree is concerned.

And then I went to the channel place on the inside Daughter of

Liam's map here, Kyle Frey gives up the mount from an August

start in favor of Antonio Frey, Super Doug O'Neill.

I think this one just makes a lot of sense.

All the pieces coming together, going Sprint around, doing all

those things. So I'll add 95 and 1 here in

race 3, the 8 horse though, Barry to you.

Interesting one in cherry cider. Hector Barrios aboard.

Never hate that on the turf. No, it's interesting he lands

here of all people, but lost to the Wally first time out in

July, who's a pretty decent horse, I think and would, you

know, obviously be tough in this spot.

The horse ran in the in the Breeders cup, but the blinkers

off makes a lot of sense. I I don't think that they would

want to get to the lead here, but want to be close.

I I think Hector Barrios will definitely get that.

I mean, you can see how this horse does have speed reinforced

by that November 13th work. I think this horse is going to

take them a long way. They might not be on the lead,

but they're going to be close and going to last a long time in

this race. So I kind of use that horse in

the mix as well, along with the Five Surfing USA, which the

Blakers on makes a lot of sense. The Rocky World's have been

running pretty good as of late, so I I think that one merits a

good chance, especially getting Top rider and and and Juan

Hernandez. Yeah, it's interesting.

The cherry cider I wanted to ask you about.

That was a horse I left out on purpose because I just.

You have theories about Batford trainees.

I do too. Moving.

Moving to the turf after what was a good show on dirt.

No, no red flag for you at all. Nope, not at all.

That that actually reinforces what I think and and I think

they this horse is meant to go that route initially and

something must have went amiss in that race because we haven't

seen that horse since July was really good too.

You're right, but working well coming into this, you can see

the progression from October all the way to November 20th.

The workouts have been getting better.

I I think this horse might be all right.

All right there you go move on to race 4.

Even number race means we're getting to the dirt here to

SoCal Saturdays on the horse racing Happy hour network.

I'm Lou robot, he's Barry Spears and we are presented by AM Wager

am wager.com. Get in with them right now. 100%

deposit match up to $150.00 with our friends there at AM wager.

Beautiful platform built for you, the horse player by horse

players. So go check them out at AM wager

AM wager.com Maiden 20 waits for us in race 466 furlongs.

Excuse me on the dirt, not 60 furlongs.

That would be a much longer race. 20,000 is the purse as

well. This is for maiden's 3 and up in

here Barry and I went with the three on top.

I've got a long shot in here that I like to hit the board.

I'll give 2 in just a second, but dirty words will break from

the three here is just kind of moving his way down the ladder

as far as the maidens. Doug O'Neill never afraid to

move a horse into maiden company if he thinks that's the best

spot for it to win and frankly get a check on the way out for

the for the sale as well. So son of 1000 words, I will

withhold comments about 1000 words, but I'd rather have a

rocky roll at this point. And so but I I do think getting

back off the turf, getting back onto the dirt here.

I think this makes a lot of sense for this horse.

It's also obviously a very good angle for O'Neill as well.

Uncle Ebco will break from the inside.

Tiago Pereira gets them out here.

This is one that if you draw a line through the last race,

which was a second place finish but was by 12 legs, this is a

horse that is much, much better going shorter.

And I think getting it back into this company, going back to that

race in June, hopefully we'll get that kind of effort again

and should be able to pick some off that way.

I also think the seven is fascinating in here.

Circle of fire for Sally Rivera, winless on the year, let's go.

But in a group of horses that doesn't work well, This is one

that has has run at Del Mar in a 12/5.

I think there's a chance they just try to go.

They just try to go. They drop into you know this

kind of company, they just go go, go bringing them back right

off very short layoff here. Maybe they know something that I

don't. So give me the seven to hit the

board here, 317 and I. Feel like, I feel like you are

going to be there when Sally Rivera finally breaks through

and has $100 winner because it's going to happen.

She she's she has these horses that run well in the mornings

and I think she's going to get the right spot at the right time

and blow up the tote board if she hasn't already.

But I, I think it's going to happen.

You're going to be there. You're you're a #1 fan, I think.

It's a little ridiculous, but Sally, shout out, shout out, let

me know, I'll throw you here. Barry went 4-3 and six in here.

What do you like about the Four Horse in Seattle Surf, besides

having a great name? Speed, speed and speed.

This horse should go to the lead.

I I mean, as faint hearted as his horse is on paper, everybody

else is just as faint hearted. And I don't know if anybody

really wants to pass anybody. And I'll take my chances at 4:00

to 1:00 with a horse that I know is going to have the lead.

I'll give that one a shot in a race like this.

You know, Uncle Evco, I've seen too many times, especially at

this level. I I think they're too much the

Palo Alto, another horse coming in here from Louisiana Downs

that doesn't have much pedigree at all.

If anything, dirty words looks OK.

I, I use that one. The five citizen Barrett I just

can't justify using even on the drop.

Grinnell has some run late. Circle of fire has some good

works and then Johnny's whispers is non existent in this race.

So it it was it was slim pickings, but I, I, I, I take

Seattle surf at that price. I don't think we're going to get

it though. I think that one is probably

going to be favored. There you go.

All right, Barry Spears, Lyrbo hanging out with you.

So Cal Saturdays move on to race A5.

Back to the turf for this one and we do get the Sea Biscuit

Handicap. It is a grade two, $200,000 on

the line mile and it's a 16th here. 3 year olds and up for

this one. Barry will work out of the turf

shoot there. So a 2 1/2 turn race, if you

will, for the runners in here, horses in here that people know.

And this is the kind of race, Barry, that if you are into

horse racing and follow a circuit, these are all horses

that you know from Southern California.

Stay hot. Cabo Spirit, frankly, a horse

like old Pal that we talked about the Turf Classic in Santa

Anita back in January. Astronomers in here, those kinds

of horses. But they're the ones that win

races too, like a Sumter and Albadares or an El Apotente.

Where did you lay the race 5? I landed on the three I'm in

Doris I I like the pattern the the horses doing the exact same

thing they did last year ran in the city of Hope Mile and then

runs in this race in the Seabiscuit last year.

They got not a great trip. They were kind of stuck on the

outside and and really didn't get a a particularly good run at

it. And they were also kind of wide

in the City of Hope Mile too and and just kind of ran on behind a

a razor sharp Johannes at that time.

Unfortunately, he's kind of tailed off since.

But they're coming into the race similarly and they draw well

this year. I think that is going to make

all the difference is the draw. This horse isn't going to be all

out wide. Johnny VS going to put a great

ride on this horse and get to the winner's circle. 5 to 1 is

excellent. I have a slightly different on

top favorite you and I similar in this race, though.

I think Cabo spirits really interesting here, especially

with the switch to Umberto wristfully, because that tells

me they're not going to try to raid on the front Berry.

I think I'm going to try to sit just off of it.

And I'm not picking on anybody, and I'm not trying to be rude

about anybody, but we know Umberto ain't getting up front

and rape nobody. That's not how it works.

That's not what he does best. If he could sit off and and go

ahead and make a lump. Excuse me, make a jump late.

I think this how about this six year old son, a pioneer.

The Nile don't hear that very often anymore.

But it was under Mike Smith for the last three races and what

did they do? They would get the front and

then the rating was just not where it needed to be.

Now, frankly, I think if he goes back to what he did, the Eddie

Reed, I think he wins this race. That was a mile and an eighth

though. This would be a mile and a 16th.

I think he there is no formidable man in this field.

Maybe Almendaris can jump up and do that to him.

But I I think if Cabo Spear can at least be near the front, I

think he can win it, which makes stay hot a candidate to get the

lead in this one actually won the Texas Turf Classic on the

front. That was back in June at Lone

Star. And since moving to Southern

California has never been out of the trifecta.

And so four runs this year in try for all all four of them

does have a win in that Texas Turf Classic.

I think this is a very similar field.

So I'm 8-9 on top here, Barry, in this one.

I went to the three in the third spot here as well.

Why don't you go ahead and talk about the six though in

Astronomer, one of those longer odds horses that I did mention

earlier, who's had who's had success at Del Mar before?

Yeah, he's very consistent, likes to come running late, but

just doesn't like to win very much.

And I I think this is just one of those situations.

You can see how many times Almondar's in his running lines,

they're beating him. And I think it it, it's sort of

the same kind of situation. These horses see each other a

lot and they'll follow each other.

I think this horse is just going to run up a nice at a nice price

into third, you know, Definitely a horse you would want to use in

tries and supers. I I was really hoping to see

next to race five start of an all turf pick three 'cause this

579 would have been unbelievably hanger.

Oh my gosh, I would have set aside a fair amount of money for

that. Del Mar, just so you know, for

next year, we're doing this ridiculous show.

Next year we'll move on to race 6, of course, SoCal Saturdays.

Louis Ribow, Barry Spears with you.

Happy Thanksgiving week to everybody out there.

I hope you and your family, your friends, whatever you're doing

this week, hope everything's going really great.

Thanks for spending part of it with us here at the Horse Racing

Happy Hour. Get back to the maiden ranks.

This is a state bred, 6 furlongs on the dirt.

Cal bred or sired Phillies. Two years old in this one here,

Barry. I thought a very fun race,

frankly, as we look to the top here.

I landed on the five horse in a great shaking second timer for

Ryan Hansen and he's very, very good with the second timers.

Gets Kazushi Kimura in here. What I really like here is

because I think because of the connections, Barry might

actually get a little bit better of a number than three to 1.

I think it might move up a little bit just because I think

like an O'Neal first timer or you know, maybe a Violet song

with a Peter Miller, something like that might attract some

money. So I'm hoping we'll get all of

the three to one on the five horse here.

I went to Violet Song next, the three horse here again, the

aforementioned Peter Miller hasn't been great.

I'm not going to lie to anybody on the curve.

We're going to try the dirt here.

I like that move at least. And if you look at the most

recent work, it was on the dirt and it was a bullet.

Not a huge sample size number of horses at Del Mar, but that kind

of speed can win in this spot. So I landed 5-3 and eight in

race 6. Barry, I know though, you landed

on that eight, do you? That tape bats the first timer

here. Yeah, I looking through this

horse's pedigree, there's nothing really to write home

about, but there are some speedy types in the pedigree and I I

think this this horse might have an edge based on that alone.

Seems to be a little quick. I like that.

Work on November 14th at Del Mar should set this one up well in a

race that's kind of wide open. You were talking about getting 3

to 1 on your horse. I think you definitely will.

A lot of these horses are going to be kind of the same price, so

this should be a really good betting race and and probably 1

you wouldn't attack pretty heavily.

You've got Dottie Hinson in your breaking from the rail in your

handicapping as well. Outside of say, Gateworks or

just trusting Andy Mathis, what do you like about her?

I'm going to trust Andy Mathis on this one.

I, I mean, I looked through the, the other horses pedigrees and

everything else in their body of work for the ones that ran and

nobody really stood out. So I was looking to more horses

that, you know, haven't had a chance to run yet.

So like horses like Scott Scotland Ray Long Range Pursuit

obviously bats on the outside, but Donnie Hitson doesn't look

too bad. I'll give that one a shot to

kind of run up into the number. Race 7UP Next Back to the turf

and back to the stakes. Barry will go first in this one.

This one gave me fits man. And it's the Jimmy Durante.

It is a great Grade 3. This is for two year old

Phillies going a mile on the turf.

And Barry, when I talk about an awesome card, I was texting you

earlier between the Clark today at Churchill.

That Lake pick 3 is awesome by the way.

It's fantastic. And then and card at El Mar

tomorrow. And then the two year old card

at Churchill tomorrow. All the things, buddy.

I'm so excited. By the way, we'll be up at the

Podcast Center soon. I had Kate, Kate and Bradar on

on my ESPN Radio show here at Louisville earlier today.

If you want to hear her analysis of the Goldenrod and the Jockey

Club tomorrow at Churchill Downs.

Frankly, I'll try to get that up in time so you can listen before

the Clark today too. But race 7 is the Jimmy Durante.

I have great news. Barry picks somebody and it's

the four horse that's just aloof. 6 to 1 Chad Brown and

Hector Barrios. I like this pic a lot.

Barry. Why?

Do you I I'm surprised I I didn't I didn't take you for a

Chad Brown going east to West. It's sort of like the equivalent

of a of a Kevin Durant fade away jumper.

That's what I think this pic is, but I'm trusting in Chad Brown

here. I'm not going to make any any

bones about this. There's, there's really a

peculiarity about how and why this horse is out there for this

race in particular. So I, I think they, they may

think that this horse might have some potential.

This field is totally wide open. I can make a case for every

single horse in this race. Literally it, it wouldn't

surprise me who wins. That's why I'm kind of going

away from any kind of favoritism, although I think

Chad Brown might get better a little out there.

But this is a doozy of a race and and it's hard to to pick a

winner here. I Chad's also shipping a horse

that's running today at Churchill up against lush lips

in. It's not the Cardinals the other

race today, but the that one man I I'm like, that's not an

accident. He's not, he's not Hobby Pratt

to ship a 2A2 horse that's ever run twice to run in a stakes

race here. That's not an accident.

You and I land on the same horse here and it's for the same

reason it is. Chad Brown ain't shipping to Del

Mar by accident for a graded stakes with a horse that he

could just keep at Florida. He could just run at Gulf Stream

and just do the thing and whatever else and he'd be fine.

Frankly, he could run that horse in lots of spots that have

grass, New Orleans, whatever, and it's shipping all the way to

Del Mar tells me that they think that there's something here.

So I landed on just Aloof as well.

You have the two horse here in the second spot in Special Wood

jokes are all there. Barry, will you make one?

Well, I mean, if it was Magic Johnson, it'd be better, but

special woodworks also, yeah, I'm not a comedian, I can tell

you that right now. But anyway.

But anyway, I I thought this horse ran good in the races that

this horse has run pretty good. I mean broke the maiden in a 14

horse field, which isn't easy to do, especially going 7 furlongs

even if it is straight or not. Then came back, backed it up in

an allowance win, went into a stake with a few horses in there

and just didn't do that well. But I mean, in comparison to

what you're probably getting here, this horse probably fits

in. This gets Johnny V, which which

kind of stands out him being out there and getting on this horse

in particular. You know, again, this is a tough

race. I, I, I wouldn't begrudge

anybody for taking anyone in this race.

Yeah, so I also landed on the four horse alongside Barry.

I go to the outside horses and to to back up Barry's point, I'm

listing four horses here. I think Hypergamy, OK.

I don't. I don't have a good reason to

put Hypergamy in my handicapping Berry, except I just like this

horse. I hate that as an angle.

I just like watching this horse run.

I think she's really talented. I think eventually she's going

to develop into something. I don't know if it's this race

that kicks off that part of her career.

If we see her here and then on Malibu Day, the day after

Christmas up at Santa Anita, I don't know.

I simply don't know. But I think at some point she's

going to have that breakthrough moment.

This daughter of American Pharaoh.

Adios Charlie on the damn side. I just I think there's something

here and it's so unusual. Think about this.

This is a one time winner and four starts for Doug O'Neill and

he hasn't switched services. When I think Doug O'Neill in

California, if you don't win all your races, he's going to try

something else. He's going to talk to somewhere

else. I think he thinks he's got

something here with Hypergamy. So I threw her second in this

one. I think the the two horses on

the outside are fascinating. If Juan Hernandez were on the 11

in C Drew Barry, I might be throwing down the field on it.

I am fascinated, of course, when sprinting it at Santa Anita and

if you look where that horse was in that race, Start Slow is 7th

by over six lengths very early on and makes her way around the

track and goes and passes everybody in a 10 horse field

and wins by 2 1/2 lengths. OK, Now if you want to get in,

oh, it's a state bread and it's all the great, great, great.

I hear you, I'm there. But Dan Blacker, this is not an

accidental place. You do not put a horse in this

spot if you think you've got no shot.

Now, does she win here? I don't know.

I think she drew. Boy Man, if if Juan were on this

horse and it was like the five hole Berry I, I would be

unpleasant. I would be unpleasant about this

horse. I don't know what it is about

this one. I think Dan's got something

cooking here. And wild like the West daughter

of in a Mischief is going to break from the 10 here for

Richard Baltus second time routing.

So this is a horse that's now got that experience as well.

I think has a real shot here. So I went a very different

direction here. I'll go 491011 in this one.

And that's amazing because I frankly, are we both leaving out

umberto's horse, the 8 horse in yours sincerely.

That's how we are. Which wins either of us is going

to be surprised that it's that kind of race barrier.

Well, you know, Horton, this is I guess in the mind of Spears.

Horses like Hypergamy really pose a problem for me, typically

because of the fact that they won that race, their last race

in such impressive fashion. It's hard to tell exactly where

this horse's talent level really is because of the fact, you

know, you could chalk that November 9th up race up to being

a quote UN quote perfect trip win.

If that's the case, then this horse can be downgraded, but it

could go either way here. Especially with this field, the

way that this field is made-up of, there's really not a whole

hell of a lot of speed. I don't think they're going to

be fast up front. I think it might be fair, but a

horse like that can certainly sit clearly from the body of

work. I don't know.

I just wouldn't take a horse like that at a short price.

I would need to get at least 5 or 6 to 1, which you could get

despite what the morning line is saying.

Latte love on the inside is another one of these O'Neill

trainees that could go ahead and win this thing too.

I Barry. This is as open a race as I can.

I I think in this show in South so Cal centers.

Is this the is this it? I mean it's up there.

It's a top yeah. I mean, this reminds me of some

of those, like when they started doing those $8000 races and

you're like, I mean, like, that's what this feels like.

It's great. I love most races.

Yeah, this is a fantastic race. But that being said, the way you

just described it is why I will throw out probably the top three

choices in this. Race.

Yeah, right. Race bet Yeah, it just just

launched. Out that's why I wanted that I

wanted that turf pick three because if you're willing to be

take a stand in this one stacks dude, I'm serious.

I mean, stacks, stacks and I just that part was

disappointing, but it's it this field is I don't know if I can

like Black Horse on the outside, man, that's the whole thing.

So there you go. All right, man, let's move on to

race 8. So Cal Saturday's with you,

Louis Rebo, Barry Spears hanging out with you on the day after

Thanksgiving as my Internet gets very slow.

There we go. Hey, hey, hey, now it's working

back to the dirt here. Maiden special 4 Cal bred 60,000

on the line. We're going 5 1/2 on the dirt. 2

year olds once again and this one Barry.

And in race 8 we landed on the same horse.

I haven't done that too much today, but miss your big A first

timer for Tim Yaktine, who is excellent with first timers.

He's also excellent with two year olds and Johnny B's in

town. So we're going to ride with that

one here. Very, very good work tab since

frankly, I don't know mid-october, something like that

horse has been working the typical yak team 333.

Let's go ahead. We'll move this horse to a gate

work. There's even a couple of time

works at a furlong and two furlongs at San Luis Rey.

But Monsieur Big, I think makes a ton of sense in this.

I do understand that pop culture joke.

Somewhat, but I was going to make another one.

Well, Monsieur Big is a full brother to a horse named

Johnson's Magic. See we we bring it full circle

here on. This.

I don't think that was full circle, but.

It's close of. Course is a son of Mr. Big

Monsieur just means Mr. in French.

Do you know the Mr. Big Joke though?

No, I do not I. Do OK, that was the.

That was the name. From yeah, Sex in the City, Yes,

yes, I do know. Yes, Monsoon.

You don't have to pretend, Barry.

You don't have to pretend. This is a safe space.

No one's watching. There's not 780 people watching

right now. Oh, you're good.

You're just. Yeah.

No, it's all good. You can say whatever.

You want. You can't tell them this.

You can't tell them this. No, I landed on the four.

I went 4-7 and six in here, Barry.

After that, I went to another or excuse me, a second timer here

for Brian Corner, who's very good with second timers hitting

at 17% right now. Diego Greerick is going to keep

all them out in this case was seen last time at Del Mar at the

end of October, right when we were getting out there for

Breeders' Cup. It started well, just didn't

have it at the end. That's what happens with two

year olds And so I'm hoping this sort of practical joke I will be

a little bit better. More recently the works have

been fine, although just trusting a second time starter

here for Brian Corner and then I went to the six who's another

first timer, this one for Mark Glatt.

Parnelli Jones will break from the six.

The son of tough Sunday has been working at Santa Anita and I

think the works are OK and the certainly the the gate works

have been I think up to snuff as well.

Mark very good with first timers as well.

So I landed 4-7 and six in here. Where'd you land a race?

A very. I landed on the four Monsieur

Big again was is a is a full brother to Johnson's Magic who

just missed that first asking. But on the turf.

But this this there's some precocity there.

And I think, you know, with the works, I like that November 3rd

work in particular and then the November 20th work I I think

puts this horse right in the mix. 6 to 1's a good price.

I think it might be a stretch. I think they're going to bet

that one in half, but all systems indicate that this horse

is going to run well. First out the two, I'd like to

talk about low tox. This horse is getting blinkers

off, was in a race that we were out there for the Thursday

before Breeders' Cup, got off slow and I think that did this

horse in because I was under the impression that that day,

Thursday, October 30th, there was a lot of speed that carried

this horse just blew the brake, had no chance and was 2 to one.

If you watch that race, this horse didn't get anything out of

that race and I think coming back in this race probably will

do this horse a lot of good. Obviously it was first time out

that taking the blinkers off. Hopefully this horse brakes a

little bit better and if they do, I think they're going to be

right in the mix. I used Parnelli Jones for

second. There's some precocity there in

the pedigree, some good works, namely the November 10th and

November 20th works. I think this horse might be a

good showing. I mean, I wasn't too enthused

with the horses that have run another situation.

No, Fair enough. Yeah, no, fair enough.

Yeah. I mean, Ryan Hansen blinkers off

all the stuff. I mean, he's making adjustments,

right? And Frankie, blinkers off is a a

common adjustment for him, frankly, more than almost any

trainer in Southern California. He tries blinkers first and then

makes the adjustment to remove them more often than the other

way around. It's kind of an interesting

attack for him. This is SOCAL Saturdays hanging

out with Barry Spears. My name is Louis Rebeau.

We've already been inside the mind of Spears, so we won't be

doing that again today, I hope. But we're

presentedbyamwagerandamwager.welikethosepeopleandsogofindthem@amwager.com. Got a 100% deposit matchup, $250

right now for you if you are a new customer and of course they

are available in Southern California as well.

Race 9 is Hollywood Derby Grade 1/3 to $1000 on the line.

This is for three-year olds, of course, following up on the

Commonwealth turf here at Churchill as the other graded 3

year old stakes on the turf right now, a fun field of 9

Berry. You get to go first.

We landed in similar spots as far as our total overall

handicapping. But you're going chalky.

I'm just kidding. You're going non chalky with

with a horse named Salamis, which I just like.

Yeah, I just, I just like it's name Salamis.

It reminds me of the white shadow.

So anybody you know you got my I'm aging myself there with that

one. But that's what that reminds me

of. But my comment on this horse

from that Brian station was horrifically wide trip he.

Really was. And and actually ran on pretty

well. I think that sets this horse up

so, so good for this race. 9:00 to 2:00.

We get that I'm pushing all in on this horse.

This is the horse I like the most on the day.

I'm not really fond of test score.

I think he hooked a pretty weak field there in the twilight

Derby. And I I think Salami's is the

goods. Double Confessor will not run in

this one. Just in case people are

wondering was set to break from the six is not in the form at

this point, so hopefully people are not confused by that.

I I did go with test score here. 3/8 and four off for me in this

one. The son of looking at Lucky I

thought was going to Twilight Derby but came out of that

Nashville Derby. I was very impressed with his

effort there. Barry and I love that we got 1

as soon as we got out West and the horse won right away.

I think we'll try to get a similar trip this time.

I think has was like Cocosan and others that he'll be able to run

and that certainly friendly confines is going to try to get

the lead under Hector Barrios and just keep it that way.

And SO38 and four for me. Test score, I think is just the

most consistent stalker of the group.

If he gets behind though, like you did in the Saratoga Dairy

Invitational, forget about it. It's not going to happen this

time. Too much good California speed

out in this one. I went to Tempest Bolot second

and this is largely a miracle tomorrow.

This one won the Let it ride tomorrow's starting to ride

better and better. He and Leonard Powell back, I

mean, up to 1/3, winning a third of their races together at Del

Mar right now. So I'll go ahead and ride that

son of not this Time. Four straight runs going a mile

on the turf. Obviously we go a little bit

further at a mile and an eighth in this one.

But if you look at his lines, he's going to be doing the best

running very, very late in this one.

I think he'll be a long side test score.

So if you wanted a horse with just a better offer as far as

better off or better value in this case, look for Tempest

Volat in that one. And then I went to the four

horse to agree with you to close the by handicapping, but you

went 4-3 and two tell tell us about the two horse and friendly

confines that I just described. Yeah, I I think Friendly

Confines just should have actually won that race.

The Let It ride they got nipped by by Tempest Volat, who

actually kind of followed that horse the whole way, tipped out

and and kind of passed them late.

I think just the experience that last time really is, is a big

confidence booster for a horse like friendly confines.

They're a real big threat to wire this field, especially

going back or going to Berrios, you know, in lieu of Flavian

Pratt, who's obviously on the East Coast.

I, I just, it was tough to me, you know, if Salamis wasn't in

this race, I'd be all over the two in the same fashion.

I think this is a solid exacta. I I mean, even the try with the

three in there, I think those horses are going to dominate

this event. All right, so I write a piece

every week for the Sporting Tribune.

If you're out West, man, cannot suggest them enough.

Free app. It's got all of my stuff, my

previews for the big race every Saturday in Southern California.

Frankly, we we switched to some Derby preps too, so don't worry.

But it's alongside great coverage of all the NFLNBAMLBNHL

the college teams out there on the West Coast.

So go check them out at the Sporting Tribune.

Barry, which race would you write about for Saturday?

Probably that last one, the Hollywood Derby.

Hollywood, easy enough, Grade one, right?

That's the one you go to, right? Absolutely.

We'll move on to race 10, then SoCal.

Saturday's hanging out with you. He is Barry.

I am Louis. Thanks for making us part of the

day after Thanksgiving and race 10 is back on the dirt and it is

an optional claimer, $61,000 on the line. 50 grand is the

claiming price and this is for non to lifers.

Some horses in here that you will definitely know including

how about this Tejon Pass who was on the Derby trail in 2024

is in here trying to Sprint on the dirt out West.

He's been out West for a while and frankly has one out West

since he's been there. You and I very similar on our

handicapping here, Barry. In this one, I went 710 and one

you and I landing on the same horse in Madiket Road.

And Barry, I want to say this, this is a Brad Cox move from

back once in a while with a Brad Cox like like for example, hit

show's going to run in the Clark today, right?

They ran him in the West Virginia Governor's Derby, like

like just to do it. This is that awesome out here

just to get him. No, but seriously, just to get

him some confidence. And I think with Madiket Rd.

that's what they're going to do here.

He's three years old. He hasn't won this year.

He's over 6th, but Barry a good a good second in the Woody

Stevens behind Patch Adams, who's off the stunt.

OK, just ran in the Breeders Cup, tried him in the Jerkins.

He wasn't ready for that either. Ran a good second in the Pat a

mile behind Macho Music. I think at some point you're

hoping because he's a three-year old, you run him here and then

where do you run him in the Malibu?

And so I think this is the setup for the Malibu.

Get him the, get him the, you know, the confidence of being in

the winner's circle again for the first time since December,

which was his last win. And guess what day that was?

That was Malibu day last year. So interesting that they're

setting him up. I think they're working

backwards from the Malibu. Madikit wrote on top for me

here. Is he a single for you?

Yeah, he kind of has to be, even though I don't really like him

in the spot. I I thought that, you know, it,

it's, it's one of those you having my time.

It, it was kind of see, this is the mind of Spears.

It's because there's no other alternatives.

I mean, he's just far and away better, even though I don't

really believe in him all that much.

There's really nobody else. He he's just pure unadulterated

speed and faster than everybody else.

I thought it was interesting that they they are giving him

Lasik's for this, you know, because if if the plan is like,

I thought the same thing you did as Malibu, that the Malibu, you

know, run them here and just run them in the Malibu.

But putting Lasix on might be a little disclaimer.

I don't know it. He's a tougher read than the

eight to five really says because of the spot.

But if you look through the field, he should dominate this

event and I think he will, even if he isn't, you know, at at his

top of his game, he should still beat this field.

Very 71 and 10. I'm 710 and one Comedy Town will

break from the outside for Jeff Mullins.

Hector Brios gets them out. This horse was in Safi's barn

until recently. Was very good last out frankly

in an optional claimer. A very fast one.

Fitting finishing behind Modus. Best ride in that one.

I think Comedy Town makes a lot of sense here for 2nd place, if

not frankly for the win. Are you interested at all in the

8 horse here? Mescalero going over to the dirt

for Richard Mandela. This in between thing I I can't

figure out what he's trying to do with this horse.

Yeah, I, I think they, they're at a loss.

They don't know what to do with this horse.

Honestly, there's no reason for this horse to run in this race.

And I I just don't understand why, unless they know something

we don't know. If you do like a horse like

this, have at it because you're going to get your price.

Oh, for sure, that's exactly right.

All right, move on to race 11 on the card.

That'll close up shop for us on this program.

SoCal Saturday is presented by AM Wager horse racing Happy

hour. Barry and Louis hanging out with

you. Optional claimer mile on the

grass here, 61,000 on the line. Three years old and up in this

one, Barry, even race means, or excuse me, odd race means, you

get to go first in this one. You and I land on the same top

too. Yeah, Lyle, the Crocodile, the

four. Full disclosure, I bet this

horse pretty good to win in that Let It Ride stakes and I also

used this horse and Tempest Volt actually in in double s and pick

threes. So I actually hit that race, but

I thought this horse was going to get a better trip than they

got. Irad tried his best and the

source kind of got hung out wide a little bit and didn't have

much of A kick. It it seems like, you know, even

that day, horses that were kind of closer to the pace were were

really kind of getting the jump on everybody else and nobody was

closing. I think he gets a more favorable

set up this time. Kazushi Kamura's definitely

going to get this horse in the right spot.

The two inside horses, you know, the two should kind of take off

and this horse can sit right behind them because the three is

nowhere. Because of that scenario, I

think Lyle the Crocodile gets the run of the race.

Yeah, it's interesting. You and I landed in the same

spot here. Lyle the crocodile.

But then the 11 as well. You and I have second in ours.

Hiding in Honduras. Barry, ever been to Honduras?

I have not, not yet. I also have not been to

Honduras, but I have smoked leaves from Honduras.

Oyston Murphy had the the ride in the Let It Ride.

You and I were there for that one on the 30th of October and I

I do wonder Jonathan Thomas, this feels like a Jonathan

Thomas special. Does it not get this horse to

go? The two here should be just

fine. Son of dialed in in this one.

I this one is a fascinating one because I do think that let it

ride if we're right, Lyle, the crocodile's got a great shot,

but so it's hiding it on earth then.

I mean, it really does. And so I think that horse makes

a lot of sense for both of us here. 4 and 11.

You went to the 10 next in Hurricane Cloud.

I went to a different long shot. Third.

What do you like about the tenure?

Yeah, getting back to the turf makes a lot of sense here.

Ran some pretty good races, notably at Delmar.

At Delmar, you know, and I and I think that this horse likes this

distance is a little long and the Tooth should be coming late,

you know, as consistent as a a performer as that horse is.

So I'll throw that one in and tries in supers for sure.

I don't love the booking of Billy Aunt Georgie here, but the

14 I don't like the 14. So there are a lot of things I

don't like about the 14 as my screen will not let me shift and

that we wonder if you can. Oh, there we go.

Hey, if you can hear me at all. But Dakota country will break

from the outside. This is a a son of Mucho macho

man, a name I don't hear very often.

But you know what this horse does Barry?

It wins three wins 6 starts this year with a third place finish.

Once in a while. Just give me the horse that

shows up mile and an eighth on the turf at at Saratoga.

Runs 3rd 6 1/2 on the turf at Santa Anita wins.

Comes back at Santa Anita going a mile on the turf and wins.

So just keep me on the turf with this one and give me a chance.

Again. Don't love the Billy Ante

Georgie booking here, but this is, I mean frankly when you get

a 14 horse field, that's what ends up happening.

I do wonder with a couple scratches here if we won't see a

jockey change because Delmar Jerry might have had a decent a

decent booking that day. Let me see if I can find out who

was supposed to be aboard for those of according to Equibase.

But I like that horse on the outside.

I think the numbers make all the sense in the world.

So hopefully we'll get a good run from that one, sit just off

the pace and eventually just move into that.

Yeah, it's not telling me who would have been.

So maybe we'll be with Belly and hopefully Billy can get that

ride all together and make it a good one.

But there you go. I will try the 14 on the outside

in 3rd spot there. Who you got the Clark today,

Bear? Nobody.

I didn't even handicap it. I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna say

what do you got? I think Hitch show wins today.

I think. Brad I love hitch show.

That's that's that's my like sentimental favorite because I I

know the the way that horse came about as far as breeding,

pairing, mating and all that stuff.

So he's kind of my sentimental choice, but I don't know he he's

if if the race was 2 miles, I'd bet him every time.

I I just, I think the the move to Irad's going to it just makes

sense for his mile. He's just and it's and again, I

once in a while, you know, for and I'm I'll just go straight

into it. People pick up Floorau Giroux

for these rides and once in a while I just think it didn't fit

the horse. Like Florence Rue's not a bad

jockey at all. Like that's not it.

He just doesn't fit the horse. I think he and hit show.

Obviously they win the Dubai World Cup, they win that West

Virginia governor's race. Like I'm not, I'm not putting it

down, but the Lucic Lucas Classic, like what are we doing

here is what that ride was. Irad gets the ride the Fayette.

It's almost the same race as that Lucas Classic was.

And they were well, I just I think I think he just fits

better. He just does it.

Definitely happens. I I mean, it goes without

saying, a lot of a lot of flows rides for Brad Cox horses I feel

fit in that same kind of category where the horse is

good, he's good. They just don't mix well

together. There's no bash.

That's exactly right. The other ones I I wouldn't hate

if a three-year old won this race, Barry Gossgar or

magnitude, frankly, setting us up for the four year old year

next year with those guys, because I already I'm already

excited about it. Obviously we're getting

journalism back. I don't want to read into what

Bill Mott said the other day, but they haven't shut the door

on that, on sovereignty, so. I I'd love to see him if it

happens that's you mean these great for everybody.

You mean these three-year olds here?

If Gosker could win this, for example, bro, that sets up an

interesting set of 9 furlong races next year.

It really does because he did a he had a bunch of great runs

this year. And if you toss a freaking run

at parks where lots of horses don't like it, Gosker's right

there. But magnitude, man, I that's the

one I can't figure out at all. But if he's able to go ahead and

win this thing, I mean, his breeding, all the connections,

all the stuff, makes sense that he could have a huge year.

Frankly, I think of Asmussen as a sprinter, trainer.

The guy trained gun runner. It's not like he can't do it

right He. Knows what he's doing.

Turners, he's fine. And so I, I kind of, I don't, I

don't wanna say I'm rooting for the three-year olds today,

Barry, but I kind of am. I just.

No, I get it. Yeah, No, it'll be great going

into next year. I think Gosker is probably the

one of the two that would be more eligible to kind of move

forward. I'm not too sure about

magnitude. He may have just kind of caught

a nice flyer and and ran good at at the fairgrounds or he might

just have an affinity for that track, but we'll see.

I mean, he did run good on the comeback race and then faded in

the one after that. So hopefully he's not like an

every other, but we'll see. I mean, he's going to get the

test again. Should be a lot of fun.

By the way, my long shot today, Barry Churchill is the 10.

Pretty picture in the Mrs. Revere to beat Lush lips the 10

and Race 10. Let's go.

You like no chalk zone? You know how we do.

Feel like you're more chalky to me now that we're doing this

show. I don't want to, I know, rub it

off on you. This horse racing vest thing.

It's not, it's not good. Barry, you need to get back.

If you see me at Churchill with a vest betting chalk, you know

it's over. Like there's no more sniper

after that. Now I got to get you a vest.

Now I got to get you a vest. Now you've done it.

We're getting a horse racing happy hour.

Best that's happening now. He's a he's Barry Spears Lively

Rambo, we're going to get out of here, let you get into your

weekend again. This has been So Cal Saturday's.

Want to thank our friends, of course at Amwager.

They hang out with us every week on this show.

We are huge fans of Marissa and Co over there.

They are so, so kind to us and I hope they're enjoying the show

as much as we are. So Cal Saturday's rolls next

week. Guess where we go, Barry?

Oh well, I'll talk. We'll try to get those ponies on

the show for you next week here on SoCal Saturdays for Barry.

I'm Louie. We'll see you next week.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend.
