Brig and Kevin, this is something I imagine Kevin
likewise has to deal with. Kevin much smarter than me
though, because he is willing to have a style that includes hats
and I, and I'm simply not a a hat person as far as my personal
style. Kevin, do you pay for haircuts
still? We were debating this earlier.
No, I haven't paid for a haircut in decades.
Oh. Man, I'm doing it.
I'm doing it wrong, brother. I just, I like the idea of
someone else touching my head. I'm not going to lie, it's nice.
I like it. You know, when I am trimming up
my, my, my hair and I, I think back to when I watched the
Barber go after my dad, you know, and take care of the ears
and all old man hair. And I'm wishing the Barber was
there for the old man hair. That's that's a whole different
story. So, but yeah, in my 20s as a
poet, he was very, very poor. I bought some Clippers and it
started cutting my own hair and I've kind of stuck to that and
the horseplay and it's fit fit to that bill as well.
There you go. Trust your luck on the socials
name, of course, man. Oh man, He's now.
He's Kevin Kilroy again. Trust your luck on the Socials
fairgrounds, man. You're down there.
You're back on the ground. New Orleans.
How's it feeling, man? Feels great.
You know, Louis, I spend my mornings on the backside to get
out there early and just I mean, I've always been a guy who likes
to frequent the bars, you know, have a little bit of a night
life, but you can't beat the morning.
It's just a social life. It's a social deal down here at
fairgrounds. You just walk around, talk, have
fun and and of course horses come up here, here and then.
So it's the best man. This is just it's one of the
special race tracks in the sport.
It really is because of the community.
Of course we get these big races, so fun to be a part of
that. But the horsemen down here, they
just have that, that spirit, that special thing.
So I'm lucky to be a part. Of it, man, we're seeing a lot
of horses that you know, have started at fairgrounds, staying
at fairgrounds. But with Oaklawn being closed
for a month, have you, have you seen a, you know, a new interest
in horses coming down from Arkansas, anything like that?
Just today we've got a few. I haven't seen too many come
over, but today we've got a few. So at my first Blake, I was
like, what is this horse doing coming here, this Arkansas
friend, you know, And I'm like, Oh yeah, Oakland's doing this
deal where they they thought it was going to be bad weather this
time of year, but it turned out to be nice in Arkansas.
So not not a ton, not a ton. But I'm not sure if that would
change. When do they fire back up?
Next week. No, they're they're off for a
month. It's a whole month.
Yeah, they took a month. Yeah.
So I was talking with Dennerman. He the track announcer there,
Matt Dennerman. He he's a San Diego guy.
So he was like, I'm going, I'll go to San Diego for a couple
weeks. I was like, good for you, man.
I'll play this time of year for sure.
But hey, Kevin. Kilroy with the change next week
here the next couple weeks. No, that's exactly right.
Kevin Kilroy with us, Doubt here at Fairgrounds joins us here on
the show. We've got a question on the text
line about the lacop, so we will get to that for sure, if you
have any. 437-9680 Kevin, real good about answering our
questions from the text line. Let's go and look at the late
Pick 4 here, bud. The Silver Bullet Days race 10
of course at Oaks Prep Mile, 70 yards on the dirt there we get a
2 to one favorite on the rail in Atropa Field of 6 here, but a
strong one. We even get the Pocahontas
winner here taken by the wind. I was a little surprised to see
the Pocahontas winner behind the 2nd place finisher in the
Goldenrod, but hey, I guess 5:00 and 2:00 and 2:00 to 1:00.
Not that different here. Are those the two favorites in
your mind as well? Atropa is the the yeah, it's a
single for me. She she she looks fantastic
breaking breaking that that maiden going two turns and you
know, touch green maybe with the switching leads down the stretch
in the goldenrod. But Bella ballerina how we were
talking about her on Monday right on the blood horse show.
She's she's a half a pretty mischievous.
She just worked. I missed it.
I missed it, but she just worked here this morning.
She's going great ready for the Rachel.
So that's that's a serious Philly to lose to.
No, no knock there. A tropo for me is a single key
on top. And I think we can get away from
taking by the wind. Taking by the wind is a little
bit slowed down by that whole vetless thing that happened to
her. I mean, they've cleared her
every single which way. And for some reason in Kentucky,
she's still on the vet list. So non heightened state.
She can be running here, that's for sure.
But I think she might need one to sort of get back to her test.
Take it by the wind We'll break from the four Atropa train by
Cherie de Voe, who is off to a spectacular start.
Nine of her first 34 races have resulted in wins.
Nine more times in the trifecta as well.
Take it by the wind. If we give her a little bit more
time, though, I think it's a really interesting one to talk
about because this is a sophomore sire.
As far as his runners in Rock Your World was the Santa Anita
Derby winner, if people remember, so Grade 1 winner out
West. But we quite a didn't know what
he would be as a sire. Boy, he really popped up as a
value sire last year. We'll be interested to watch her
moving forward because, yeah, you get first to Samurai in the
damn side. Such a classic Kenny Mcpeet
$20,000 purchase, you know, kind of thing there.
I think she just wanted to watch just based on the breeding.
Yeah, no, I mean, and she's she's, she's perfect.
She's 2 for two. You know, she won that that
Pocahontas, she looked fantastic.
Made five and a quarter legs win.
So yeah, my, my, just my sense is that as we just want to watch
her this one especially at a short price.
But she's, she's training well and she, there's nothing wrong
with her. I don't know what the deal is
with that. I mean, there's all the stories
out there about that sort of that list stuff.
So you can hear Kenny talk about that on his podcast.
He, he, he, he references it, you know, he gives you the
details and they, they've gone into great lengths to prove her.
Now Pashmina, I think we should give another look underneath.
She didn't want to be on the lead the last time.
And she's she's big and she's talented.
And then dancing in Old Town, she's had a couple tough trips.
She continues to train lights out.
I'm going to use those two values in that second spot.
Awesome white smokes in here, stretching out for Sheree Devoe
second timer. I'll be honest, I would not be
surprised if this 1 ended up picking this off a daughter of
essential quality on the dam side, etcetera.
Do you, are you just kind of for handicapping purposes in this
case, just waiting for her to go to the two turns one time try or
maybe the next time? Yeah, I mean, it's one of those
deals where, you know, in a short field, knowing that she'll
take a ton of money, I'm willing to oppose her because of the
question marks. Got it.
But she looked great. I mean, she stayed every saved
every inch, but she looked great getting that win.
She beat a good one from Foley and her her Daisy, who will see
you again on Sunday. You should keep an eye out for
her, but I mean, she, yeah, I mean, she could, she could be
the goods. I mean, Belladonna Racing,
Cherie Devoe, they just it's amazing.
Louis, you see them every morning.
There's so many of them. Cherie is her barn is just got
so much class, so much quality, so white smoke.
She's going to improve going going longer, she's going to
improve second out. She could prove to be the best
thing in this field, but I think I got just going to stay with
what we know, a little bit more of a known commodity with the
trophy. This is an Oaks prep.
If you are interested in the Oaks route through the
fairgrounds, which has produced some of the very best runners
the last decade or so in horse racing, go check out Blood Horse
Monday from this last week. You can even find it under
additional programming at espnlouisville.com.
But when we were going through that list, Kevin just the Oaks
preps down there in the the winners of the Rachel Alexandra,
which is the the the race in a month without skipping anyone
good cheer, Tarifa, pretty mischievous Turner loose
Clarier, finite Serengeti, Empress Monomoy girl, pretty
good little Oaks route. You guys got going to there?
It is. It's a fantastic Oaks around.
I mean, it's, it's fun to have this action here.
So are we going to see the next one?
Could it be a tropo? I'd say a Bella ballerina, the
two that I'm most interested in if I could put that future rager
in on the Oaks right now. Love it.
The Colonel Bradley's. Up next, we're talking with
Kevin Kilroy down there at Fairgrounds in New Orleans.
I talked about Oaks prep. We'll talk now about a turf race
mile and a 16th therefore and up and this always.
I feel like this is the most difficult race to predict on
this card. I'd rather be blessed.
Comes in off a win in the Dilberto last time out in that
Memorial race and he's 6 to 1. Good luck with this one here,
Kevin. I yeah, he's so disrespected.
He just, they just never, they never give him love.
I mean, he was second in the Dilberto last year, second in
the Colonel Bradley last year at good odds in both races, 4th in
the fairgrounds. He won the Muni.
He's 86 to 1. I mean he needs LASIK to prove
of that and he's back in his his favorite track where he's made
all his money and you know he got it done last time.
It would it would you know, you kick yourself to lose to him
again. The price should be, you know,
fair enough and I'd rather be blessed, but I think I'll have
more pressure. I mean, it was a key scratch
last out of the Diliberto when Theisman he he scratched because
he had the wrong the wrong shoes on.
It wasn't it wasn't shot for the turf.
So he was scratched in the paddocks.
So that was a little bit of a change to the pace and I'd
rather be blessed to take advantage of it in every which
way. Thyssen's back in this one.
I think the kudo will be up a little bit more forward.
Luis Saez taking the call for Cassie.
Laganos is going to be the favorite in here.
I don't know what's going on with this morning line.
Laganos should be. I would get 2 to one.
I think we can get a fair price on the Pune.
I think we can get 9:00 to 2:00. We'll see.
I could be wishful dreaming, but I think the kuda is the play,
the cameo performance. I rod up.
He loves it here at fairgrounds, He really does.
We hate to lose the cameo performance.
If they want to use them and then rated wit, I mean lightly
raised, it's taking a lot of money.
They've liked them, you know, moved up quickly to the face
rated Face Company. He didn't prove well in either
of those two tries, but got that Murphy of Pimlico.
He looks fit. He looks ready to roll.
Reagan's wit Flabby and Pratt. I don't think we'll get that.
But you do have some value to it, that's for sure.
Yeah, I'll be leaning on Theisman there, the seven horse
here, Ben Curtis riding for Peter Erten, part of his growing
number of horses east of the Rockies.
This one is run just last year at Churchill Ellis and at
Keeneland here in Kentucky before making the move down
there. Two Fairgrounds did about start
his career at Santa Anita. The Louisiana's a grade three
race, 12 starts the late double. We're talking with Kevin Kilroy
down there at Fairgrounds, $175,000 on the line.
We see the for a return of Just a Touch here.
Last seen in the Monmouth Cup. You'll hear Brad Cox tonight at
6:00 on the Kentucky Racing Spotlight.
We talked with him about Just a Touch and about his trio of
runners in the Le Compte. 8 to 5 seems appropriate.
I'm going to guess he's probably 3 to 5, four to five by the time
we get. To line, Absolutely he will be,
yeah. I mean, look at how much money
he's taken over the years. He's got the figures.
He's he's the fastest number on the page, but he just hasn't
gotten that stage win. Now these two for two are
fairgrounds against softer. These three for three with
latex. Is Latex the key for just a
touch finish off the race? I mean, if you want to tell
yourself that story, you can and you'll get that price and you
just have to single them. I've been trying to beat them.
This is what I like to try to do.
So I'm going to try to beat just a touch.
Moonlight has been sensational since joining Chris Blocks bar.
He put it all together at fairgrounds, getting that that
second allowance win by 9 going on and taking on not this boy a
couple of times. Not this boy one that's
tenacious laughed out the Doug Towns fantastic.
He looks so good running down dragon guard Cherokee mile.
He's training well you know keeping up his form.
I think he's he's just the one that we just have to to be a
little bit bold with and and hope for seven at 2.
I think 92 might be a little bit a little bit high on him.
I think he could be the second choice in here.
Sir Graylin ran huge laughs out. Ryan took him back after he
broke sharp. I think maybe if he just was
able to to hold his sort of a little bit more forward stock in
position, we could have been very, very dangerous to rundown.
Not this boy. He gave it great try.
He just is an improving run over king at peak.
I'm going to use the 1/5 and aggressively and and be alive to
the seven as well. But indeed.
I'm interested in Sir Grayling because it's it's I, I really
appreciate what you just said about his tenacious because I
was there on November 12 when he won over a mile on the 16th at
Churchill. And what you said is absolutely
correct. Brian actually gave him a little
more leeway to get closer to the pace and then once he was there,
he used long stretch of Churchill to pull away.
Obviously the long stretch of fairgrounds a little different,
but very similar. Frankly.
I do think Sir Grayland, if it gets a slightly different ride,
does have a serious shot here. I'll tell you who I'm fascinated
with. Those accelerize.
Son of Omaha Beach, 4 year old, comes in only three races career
wise. Broke his maiden at Tampa last
year on 1st asking in March as a three-year old and that we
didn't see him because he was in the Anthony Shimeta barn.
Moves to Todd Pletcher. He's won won his most recent
race but run twice since November at Gulfstream.
What do you make of the shipper coming in that only ran a 1/3
mile a couple times at Gulfstream?
He's been too slow. You have to take a huge shoot.
Step forward is a big ask. Louis, My read on him is that he
is the department in town with Jackson Hole.
Todd got to in town and Jackson Hole.
Is that very impressive debut winner $1.3 million Nyquist
cold? He's huge.
I just saw him yesterday. He's a monster.
So that's my read And like, you know, you never know, but
sometimes they seem to they have a partner.
It sort of makes everything good.
And and I could be thinking it the wrong way, but I think that
Jackson Hole is the one that is is very well intended in race 3
on the card. And I think I'm going to try to
take on accelerize. But he lightly raced.
He could be anything. He'd have to take a big step
forward to be seized. Jackson Hole will break from the
one in Race 3. He's under Flavian Pratt 7:00 to
2:00 on the morning line, gets Lasix for the first time as a
three-year old, as Kevin just pointed out, his son to Nyquist,
Bernardini Mayer. Good to hear those things for
sure as we look forward. And as a three-year old, you got
to be thinking, I mean, how much buzz is there around that race
for Race 3 tomorrow? Just having him in town, maybe
as you know, potential on the Louisiana Derby trail there.
Yeah, he was, he was nominated to to the Lecomp.
So they they thought about in their name, Lecomp.
And sometimes that's just owners just sort of, you know, putting
that out there and all that sort of stuff.
But yeah, I think Todd's got to be sort of testing the water,
see if he loves his trap. And he could fit very well for
the Louisiana airbeat. Raise the star wherever he might
show up. All right, we get to the Lecomp
now with Kevin Kilroy at Trust Your Luck on the socials.
Go find him there. And of course, Fairgrounds
today, tomorrow, Sunday, they'll be running.
Mesquite is the one that came up on the text line.
He'll break from the seven here. Flavi and Pratt gets the mount
for Cherie Devoe, our guy, Upper cross Bill Texan.
I'm curious about the number 7. Mckeaton the Lecompt scratched
out of the gun runner for the spot.
He looked green last out, but I really like him a lot.
I'm a Cherie Devoe runner at New Orleans.
I think I know how Kevin's going to respond to this one.
But Cherie doesn't make it easy on it all the races, every race,
you know, except for I think so Bradley, she's got she's got 2
and they're all absolutely talented.
And you know, hosing Ortiz is the Barnes first call 100%.
Now you know that. I mean, if if craft is going to
ride up and down the car and he's got to have another, you
know, another big shot and he could make the difference.
He is a difference making rider. I like golden tempo more on the
stretch out. I think he's a special colt.
Just seeing something about him that just really is resonating.
He's just, he's just got something a little bit more than
a lot of the horses that I typically see.
Mesquite though, he's been green.
He's been a little bit, you know, still figuring things out,
which is every reason for him to to put things together.
He's in great hands with the barn and with Slavia.
He's an absolute contender in here.
I think you got to just the contenders are 5 through 11.
We won't see Sally. He'll be running in the maiden
earlier on, but he's very loud in that race.
So Mesquite, yes, big time contender.
I like Golden tempo a little bit more and I think the price will
be a little shorter. Mike Tiger to me is the most
likely winner in this race. I think he's going to be fully
ready to go for Brad Cox on Saturday.
So and stop the car. I think it's the price play in
here. Brendan Walsh, you know, had
this one in for 150,000 on debut.
He he he showed his his big time stretch run coming from way off
of it. He looked fantastic on stars of
tomorrow too card Brendan said he's training forwardly more
better than he's ever seen him train.
He's ever been a huge workhorse and he he could be the price
play in a big way. Stop the car maximum security
code. Who's who can get the distance
they're down about. It's interesting that you
mentioned, you know, 6 through 11, four of those horses were
bred for 10 grand or less, right?
It's, it's kind of a reminder, you know, the, the, the connects
and the union rags and the, you know, the maximum securities of
the world. You know, you still, we're still
looking for those new sires once in a while too.
It's kind of a fun one there. Well, Kevin, you made it through
two shows with me in the same week.
I'm sure you'll need a cigarette and or a nap after all of this,
but you know, it's I really appreciate.
You doing my fruit basket, Louis?
Where are the buffets? Louis, what are we doing?
No, but there's a Gersh Agency joke in there somewhere.
We appreciate Kevin jumping on Trust your Luck on the socials.
Who's your official pick there in the lookout?
Golden Tempo is my official. Pick.
All right, Golden Tempo. This show is going with Crown
the Buckeye, the Ohio bread. That's how we do things in here.
My producer is from Columbus, so we will go with the good old
Ricardo Santana junior MM Baker combination, which we never see
at at Fairgrounds. So there you go.
Well, thank you, Kevin. Have a great weekend, buddy.
Enjoy weather that's warmer than this and we'll talk to you soon,
I'm sure. All right.
Thanks, Louie. Good luck.
There you go, Kevin Kilroy at Trust Your Luck on the Socials.
Appreciate him jumping on from down there at the fairgrounds.
Do a bunch of football in the second hour of the show.
But up next, we decide if Rory McIlroy just needs to shut the
hell up or now we do it next.
