This week on the horse racing. Happy hour presented by Single
Barrel, cigars table wins. The Santa Anita Derby.
Is he, the new Derby favorite or a Wiseguy horse?
Sandin racked up, more frequent, flyer miles and more Derby
points. With the wind, in the Bluegrass.
Can this be Chad Browns year in the derby?
And the derby field will be set after the Lexington will rounds
of Tawny Port come with dessert on the dirt, or will the check
come in due time? The happy hour starts right now?
What is up? Welcome to the horse racing.
Happy hour. Presented by Single Barrel Cigar
Company. We are having a little different
show today which is exciting myself - Ein.
I'm taking over for the host seat for the Big Mike and all
faux also known as Big Fudge lower, your bow constant on the
show and of course you could to actually see our producer,
extraordinaire KD, Fox and TV. We call it voice of God.
You know? And you just have fun and come
in but this here he is, he's right.
You're right now face, that's hair.
That's hair of God right there. Look at that guy.
And and I and because I love you guys.
I got like half of my video setup out for you guys.
I love it. I love the Devotion to the show.
Also going to say that the puns into this week's open.
So I need pipe by far my neighbor one, top-class top
shelf for the horse racing, happy hour.
So she obviously the ones this week but you playing CeCe
peniston. The background was Till I do
your Alzheimer. So yeah, there we go.
Hashtag Megan's too young. Megan is too young.
That is the first hashtag of the show.
We have enjoyed the happy hour before, where have you been?
But this is where we talk about horses and have a bit of fun in
here. There are some drinking roles as
well. Some hash fact, that you'll keep
up with one of those being humble brag.
I'm sure we'll get to that later on in the show, but there are a
few. So we ask that, if you're
driving listening to us live, you just wait till you get home.
To do that. And then you can play catch-up
and then that's your family's problem or, you know, enjoy the
show and TuneIn, of course, and or rather engage with us in our
comments or on our social media channels.
So with that gosh it's hard being the host I guess, I should
follow this here. This here show sheep, I did
mention our sponsor, Single Barrel cigars and want to get
the take from this week, lure bow with an actual Single
Barrel. Cigar in hand, it's true, I do
Do that every show. And this is the original by the
way, which is great. But I, uh, yeah, I wanted to
give a shout. We've had listeners already
filling the in boxes in ordering the cigar, so make sure that we
keep that up. I know they're loving the
support and we are already going to be doing some co-branding
stuff for Derby. So we'll have some cool
giveaways on the show. The next couple weeks as well.
I am super excited about this. This is a great.
It's gonna be great. All right, so we had some big.
We are winding down in the derby prep season and it seems like we
just started. So not sure where February and
March 1 but they gone. So we had the Santa Anita Derby
out there on the west coast where we had Vivid upset.
We got three replay to show here. 98 has taken the lead at
the quarter pole and quickly pulls away from Forbidden
Kingdom. Tabor running a giant race on
the outside 3/16 of a mile to run and it's Messier and table.
12 Forbidden Kingdom five behind inside the 8bo Messier.
Tabor running lights out on the outside.
And here's tayba o. Getting the upper hand in the
final stages, the run-happy Santa Anita Derby, goes to table
under Mike Smith. So my favorite result than what
we thought was going to happen. Yeah.
My favorite conspiracy theory about this is that they let
table win because they knew both would get in the derby field.
That's my favorite one. That's been my favorite so far.
It's a good one to love. No, I know I got like probe each
throw from a local journalist here which was one of my
favorites. But I think that an expert we
literally talked about the two horses that were at the lead at
the turn and then I said the Wild Card, of course is table
but I did really put much Credence to it.
I'll be very careful. It's a.
But do we? You know, once in a while that
it's an angle that doesn't work. Very often.
But horses coming out of their Maiden win, sometimes just show
up the next race. Isn't that true Megan.
No, and this again. I will I work for that to be a
hard and fast. Well, it's just, that is
ignoring like everything about condition book, placing horses,
like they're so much anyways. JD would you think?
Well, I think there was a lot of talk early that.
Okay, well, tabe is here to fill the slot to make sure the race
goes. But, you know, I have a, I have
interesting take on this because tabas debut, i watch from the
Winner's Circle. Yeah, that race.
I watch. Brag.
That is the humble brag. Okay, go on, boy, it was like,
71 that it was going to be. It was going to be jaded with
the first one is gonna be the first five minutes.
We are at five minutes and 30 seconds.
So, I guess if you think I'm the countdown and the open, I'm
still, right? And then, I watched the Santa
Anita Derby on my phone, in SD from a hotel room in Germany,
so, both tanks on the horse. But look at the horse and
person, you would think. Okay, this is a, a sprinter,
this is a sprinter type body, but you look at the pedigree and
you go, okay. This horse is bred to go all
day. So sometimes you factor the
pedigree and sometimes you factor in the horseflesh.
I'm not as strong of a expert in horse flesh.
As you are Megan, but I definitely thought the distance
was going to be a challenge for table, just physically, and
obviously proved wrong. I mean, You could say, OK, the
figure might've, you know, depending on what figure you
believe, or if you make your own figure slightly less than the
debut Sprint, which was as impressive, a debuts, you can
have but still this horses at the derby field and has the
horse racing world, at least the horse racing Twitter world of
Buzz. So very interested to see the
gambling side of this. When when we get the advanced
wagering going on Derby week, if this horse is going to be, I
think there's a good chance this horses 922 in the dirt.
Baby. I really yeah, I was gonna say
I've seen him in a lot of people's early top, five top
three. I mean, he definitely he made a
splash for sure. It's funny when you were talking
about the, like, the pedigree versus the physical one of those
horses that really stumped me when it came to, the physical
was gun Runner because he, and even his offsprings a little bit
like that, which was hard for his first crop at the sale when
I was looking for horses because he's such a kind of petite, you
know? Packed very well-balanced horse,
but like, he's not physically imposing.
He just kind of like a little thing, you know, and so not
little by any means. But when you're, when you're
thinking about some of these big like classic distance horses, he
wasn't really what came to mind, but obviously on the track that
that didn't come to play at all. So we're completely proven
wrong. But sometimes I feel like that's
almost where you have too much information need to just forget
all the other angles there. It's a Gunrunner by a flatter
mayor. I mean, like, you know, it's
sometimes, it's It is out of a flight immerse, you just it is
what it is, right? So I mean it's up.
Yeah, sometimes it just works out.
Yeah, it's really interesting to with that, the way that table
attire but how is saying this was able to win that race
because I thought, okay, yeah, he went up against Messier.
You know, Kay made a big move on the turn and then in the stretch
of the 16-fold, I don't know that if just Messier was like,
tiring and slowing down, or they weren't pushing him because
they're saving. What's left for the Derby?
Was like, at the 16th hole, he just hit a whole nother stride,
which I was super impressive. So I thought it was the way he
finished that race which I think was really, you know, probably
more of an educational thing than anything else because you
want a horse like that that is coming out of maybe some earlier
races that weren't as tough as some were all these other horses
came from, you want them to learn.
It's an education. Thanks, I think you got a really
good education and that's and Anita Derby so he's definitely a
horse to watch for me, for sure. I don't think Johnny V really
hit the bottom of Messier. Anyway, I think basically, you
know, he knew the job there. He was going to already, go
ahead and be in the derby field, so no sense.
Winning this sin and he had Derby.
Why push? Because obviously bigger, things
ahead, because that horse is still eligible for the Canadian.
Triple Crown. We get it.
We got. Yeah.
There we go, 100%. All right, then we had good old
zenden. One of the Bluegrass.
Let's take a look. Bullying by the quarter pole.
A manual, the leader smile, happy now takes aim from the
outside. Here's smile.
Happy to take the lead from a manual into the final Furlong
hands. And on is running late Zan.
Dawn has moved through all kinds of traffic from the back of the
pack and is now taking command in deep stretch.
It's over Zen Dawn wins. The Toyota Bluegrass with a
traumatic stretch, run for flavian Pratt.
Yeah, I mean that was a very interesting race from Zen not I
know. I he was my pick for the
Bluegrass. I thought he was looked really
good coming into form here but the way he won, the fact that he
was able to take a little bit of bumping.
I think is important when you're talking about that 20 horse
chaotic field that we get in the Kentucky Derby.
Louis, would you think I think it's a style that can't win the
Derby and so, they're going to need to be nearer to the front
if they're going to try to do that.
I do like that. Both he and table.
Finishers and would it seem to be okay with the longer
stretches are going to get it? Churchill and so that's a
positive. We also know that if a horse
gets disqualified flavians, going to be right there to pick
up the pieces and be in second place and get put into first
place. So that's a thing that we can be
really happy about. And so, you know, it's, there's
lots of ways for this horse to win the race because flavians
aboard still funny. Not, by the way, Pratt put on
just an absolute Clinic. Oh yeah, Keeneland since go,
Going there. I mean just right.
It's not even funny. It's ridiculous.
He's doing so well, they're so good for him JD where you think.
Yeah. I think obviously Louis hit on a
bunch of the big notes there. I mean lots of traffic trouble
kind of winding through the field that trips not going to
win you the Derby but I think this horse has enough tactical
speed to be closer. I think that I agree with that's
right play for the day so I'm not I'm not throwing this out
and obviously waiting for flavian to cross the wire first
in the derby and waiting for Chad Brown.
First derby win. So, yeah, those could happen
with this horse. I don't think this horse is out
of it. I think this furnace is
probably, you know, 12 to 1 or so, when the Derby comes, and I
think a lot of, a lot of people will be betting late.
This could be a wise guy horse. Yeah, for sure.
I definitely think he's a, he's a top Contender for sure.
All right, that brings us to the Wood Memorial.
Where provider, you can't spell Danza without Zan Dona.
Keep going. Right.
So anyways the wood JD hit record is 11 11 and 2.
It is early voting trying to take them wire.
Do I hear early voting in front mode on ago comes on throw
doubt. On the inside to grab s, it is
early voting in front. A challenge here from modown
ago. Early voting trying to hold on
with a sixteenth of the Finish MoDOT ago bearing down on the
outside its modown ago and early voting and it is mode on ago,
modown ago, one the Remsen. Here is a 20 Are all any comes
back to win. Today's 97th running of the Wood
Memorial. No, Donna.
Go gets the victory there. Let's go to JD JD initial
thoughts on the race. John embryo with a long long
call, but made the right guy mean mode on illegal.
This is Alyssa loves Aqueduct. Yeah, I think this is a horse
that will have a fine career on the naira circuit.
I do not think this horse is a contender come Kentucky Derby
time. Nor have we seen really abadie
recently come out of this race. Obviously, I sold a lot of my
oats on horse racing Twitter. Canberra banach in last year's
Wood Memorial. And I think this horse has a
very similar shot. Probably 35 to 1 and yeah will
be a deep closer and I don't think has a has a chance to snap
the board personally. Oh my I am so attracted to
stretch runs where the whip just doesn't come out and the jockey
just drives the horse and the horse just goes and that's so
that was so I love that stretch ride by Mo Donegal but I'm kind
of with JD here. I'm not at all.
Sure again that this is the style that's going to win the
Derby. It Does win at Aqueduct for some
reason that deeper track sort of thing, it doesn't win the
Belmont which is interesting. So hopefully you know he'll be
able to be closer to the front when they run them in June.
But I I really thought Marella was the most talented so to get
gets essentially I think was my second pick on the board there
to his horse and do anything wrong?
It's again, it's just stylistically.
It's very hard to win the Derby. Doing what he did?
Yeah, well I'd even, you know, early voting, who I also Marilla
had Not a great breaks but I don't think you can completely
blame it on that. And then early voting obviously
put in a fine race, he was right there, but just expected a
little bit more finish from him. So overall I thought kind of
disappointing for quite a few horses.
And they're so be interesting to see what What mo donegal's going
to be able to do. I think the fact you that you
know, we have this really interesting field for the
Kentucky Derby just in general. Obviously some news out of
California, which you should have touched on but the Santa
Anita Derby is that Forbidden Kingdom.
Is off the Derby Trail there thinking he may have an ulcer
under his epiglottis which unfortunately an epiglottis
issue is also what kept Omaha Beach.
Yeah. What's going about with the help
of the opposite refrigerator and Della Della you know that's the
worst good Horseman but he is not.
I don't think you. I don't he's at of all the great
races that he is one like he's almost too.
With the sources, he's too reserved.
I don't know that we're ever going to see a Derby winner come
out of there because of the way that it's you have to run such a
tough campaign. And, you know, and I love it
honestly from like a horse's respective because if even .001
something is wrong dad, worse isn't going sir, be or to any
big race. I mean, we even saw that with
the holder. She had a favor fever and she
shipped over to Keeneland for the Breeders Cup that year.
So he's so reserved and that makes them Such a good Horseman.
But at the same time it's just so hard to get that three year,
old classic, you know, Victory when it comes to the Spring May
time. And then other I actually I
wanted to mention too, I think this is actually a pretty
accomplished durbeyfield, if you think about the top, I want
seven or eight horses here. Epicenter finished in to finish
first in the Louisiana Derby, the rid of the Risen star and in
in the Gunrunner second, and on the cobs and on wins, the
Bluegrass comes second out of that remson which was won by
modal. Who won the, would you got way
to borrow who won the holy bolt, and the Florida Derby.
You've got right tis, the bomb winning, both the Battaglia and
the Jeff Ruby's takes. I understand those are both on
synthetic, but ran, well, in the Is cup as well.
I mean, then you got CyberKnife. You got I mean honestly I think
I think Jade he's not just playing the I like International
racing card when he talks about Crown Pride.
I think you think he's got some kind of shots.
At least get a check in this thing, right?
It just seems really. Yeah, it seems we haven't
mentioned simplification here which you know, he won the found
a you s in the whole Ebola. Third in the Florida Derby
smile. Happy wins a jockey club comes
back. Runs a couple of good seconds
and then this past weekend as well.
So I mean even slow down and he's coming out of the
fraternity and coming out. Of the Sunland Derby.
So drink just to drink folks, porch, a deal.
Yeah. Whatever you say is pride,
obviously I think has the running style to do on the
Derby, but right, A lot of people like this.
Miss the UAE Derby from a win, wager perspective in the
Kentucky Derby. But if you go back and do some
research, you ain't Derby. Winners have been hitting the
board and Derby in the super sure.
And, and have been closing. Well, That's kind of been the
style. That's been winning the, the
yeah, the one, the one run, being a little off.
The just, you know, slightly off the lead.
Making one run down the stretch. Obviously, that's a style that
fits Churchill very well with the long stretch.
So, I do think this horse has a serious chance.
One of the things I'll also say, Louis is it's going to be a very
top-heavy feel, I'm getting the sense.
I think we're going to see a lot of defections in the, in the
teens, in the standings and you're going to have a lot of
horses that you haven't necessarily.
A herd of or heard of recently that are going to make their way
to the derby field. So it's going to be a very
interesting, couple weeks here. Yeah, one, I really just want to
hear who that bird like, oh, we have a very nice colony of
robins back here. And so had, I had, I been in
charge of naming, the baseball team here.
They would have been a Roberts for sure they're robbing.
Okay, I love it. It's great.
All right, so let's talk a little bit about the Phillies
The Oaks. Huh.
I mean, I don't know about you guys, but I was like, Blown Away
by Nest. Hmm.
So I mean, the way that that horse won and how easily and how
wrapped up she was like, they've got something special right
there. Well, we saw this last year with
Mallet that one in the same way. Right?
So right, yeah, we kind of, we're able to look at her in in
the prep at Keeneland and then look ahead and see her like
liking the longer stretch at Churchill.
I think we have exactly the same thing with Nest here.
Impossible, not to love Kathleen.
Oh, she might have been the best horse on Florida, Derby day.
I mean, maybe not close for whatever.
Oh, and then it goes to lose going to be running for the
second time this year. We love that angle on this show,
for sure. Do we dislike you giri who seems
to be doing things? The right way desert Dawn is
coming in off of good. Runs of any Valentine didn't win
last time out, but is Leah. Very good horse.
What is secret? Oaths stamina going to look like
when she gets to the island in the top conversation for sure.
When you just just those horses alone, I think secret oath Nest,
Echo, Zulu and Kathleen. Oh those poor horses it's going
to be you talk about like a two-horse Showdown or something.
Like we were talking about Forbidden Kingdom and Messier
and standing the Derby for for Phillies at least.
And you could probably throw a couple others in there too that
it's going to be. Really exciting to see that has
to that has the it has the potential to be as good as the
September Oaks when we had Swiss guy diver we had she'd are
available. We had who was the Sprinter,
help me out baffert horse, Oka mean Janine, thank you.
And then there was a fourth horse in that group.
All four of them were absolute monsters and they finished one,
two, three, four. And it was awesome.
And so, I think there's absolutely a chance that we get
that quality of Phillies coming out of this race as well.
Yeah. Agree.
Going to be excited and I'll just remind everybody that
desert Dawn is an Arizona bread so has absolutely no chance in
the. Anyways, it's fine.
But no and and I can't, but we have so many, it's looking good.
Look at the durbeyfield. I feel like we've got all the
time. Overrun.
Yeah, they're from everywhere. I feel like you've got, maybe a
4 in front of their. I feel like there's a
Pennsylvania bread, there's Ontario bread, obviously,
Kentucky Fred's, whatever. But like, it's all over the
place right now. It's Fun and I I kind of don't
look at where horses are bred anymore?
That's kind of a weird thing to say, but I are at least very
little unless it's a state bread race or whatever.
But, I mean, certainly in factors in a lot less.
I mean, especially like, we're going to Laurel for Preakness
preview for at SEO day and I was not afraid to pick Maryland,
breads. For example in those races
against New York Supreme Court has and eventually yeah I think
they like that. You're going to see a lot of
State versus you know, jump from local circuit.
But even I mean taking the past couple years you've got a horse
like unique Bella. She was a Pennsylvania.
Yeah, you know, we had more Spirit maybe or another horse
who was a Pennsylvania bread. And so we've seen horses pop up
from just about everywhere here recently.
So I agree. I agree.
All right, let's get you a little handicapped in here.
We will do Keeneland handicapping first.
It is, of course, Jenny Wiley day, the forecast is dry 64, and
body. However, there's actually
supposed to be a heavy amount of rain in the wheat early hours of
the morning. So, I do, You think and we've
had a lot of rain, including a tornado last night.
So I think that the course is going to have quite a bit of
moisture in it, personally think it's gonna be a little heavier.
You know, I'd probably be good as Keeneland usually is but like
on the maybe even less than that.
I don't know. It's been pretty pretty damp out
here. So do you want to do?
Want to say that but we have a few races on talk about,
obviously a grade 1. We also have the grade 3, the
Lexington which is the final contemporary preparation, pick
word. This With race number 8 which is
the Giant's Causeway five and a half earlier.
So matter for Phillies and there's three years old and up
and two hundred thousand dollars.
I did not look up the history or past winners of this race
because I am not Big, Mike, big fun and also knowledge help for
that next week, when he's back on the show, all right?
Louis will go to you first. So I think this is an
interesting race in that LZ, who's going to be the three?
Two, one favorite here is the 12 horse.
Has never won without Lasix and we're racing without Lasix in
this one. And so it's a it's an
interesting juxtaposition of her against the five change of
control who only wins without Lasix.
And so I think if you wanted to play the Lasix angle, you could
look at change of control with Michelle level and Colby
Hernandez as your horse to put on top.
Here, didn't run great at the fairgrounds last time out, but I
think has absolutely all the ability to come back and run.
Well here, essentially, I don't want to say third up.
But, you know, third time this year, late January, then early
in March, and then here at April, has won twice at
Keeneland before. So seems to like the course
including that horse has won on soft go at Keeneland.
So if Megan's right and we do have to deal with softer
conditions at Keeneland, that might be a horse that you look
at that stuff. I've changed control.
I also wrote down notes about the 11 going good.
It's mostly based on the connections that horse is 821
that's Cox and Gaston Leone 8 to 10.
The line there's no way that horse is going off in 821.
S, I'm running this year was off since August, when she was
running in. Saratoga, put up a 94 speed
figure in second in that race last time out in the Mardi.
Gras, which was won by LZ. Everyone.
Ran replaced. It circled back to not ending
Lasix here, horses one without Lasix and with Lasik.
So I'm not worried about that. And then the last words, I wrote
down, was the 14, a gnd. And this horse is 10 to 1 on the
morning line, pleasure, and saez, not a great run, last time
out of seven furlongs in Gulfstream Park, The inside
information in a grade 2 that was against horses.
Like just one time Jakarta and for Grace's were on the dirt.
We're not dealing with that. This time we're getting back to
the turf. Here, the horse is considerably
better on the turf for for 12 lifetime. 343 at the distance
with a 90 speed figure. So I actually really think a GED
even on the outside. I know that stuffing 25 and half
for a long race, but with the good break that horse can get to
the front and stay there and do the work that horse actually is
a, is really capable of being in the second.
Third spot being in a three or four.
Oh, path, and coming around and winning the race.
So I landed on those four horses for this race.
The 4:48, the 11 in the 14. So I guess I'm really leaning on
the outside horses there Katie. What's interesting is, I
campanelle who's the morning line?
Favorite 522 coming off the long layoff last ran at Keeneland in
October, I mean, that's kind of interesting angle here.
Wesley, word with a rat up. This horse hasn't won in the
States since the debut main win at Gulfstream and they thought
of This horse to go to Ascot and go to develop in France, where
this she won both of those races, both of those races than
was that the Phillies Turf and finished fourth with Frankie to
Tori doing most of the writing for the career but has irad
here, I really think it's a case where you have to be strong and
say, okay, campanelle wins this race or you have to go deep.
So I'm going to give a couple options here, you know jouster.
The six really disappointed in the honey.
Fox, they're trying to bring for the first time with this.
A horse. That's ran a couple ridiculous
first quarter's going longer in the career and is drawn inside
some of the other main speed like LZ that you mentioned
Louis. So I want to give jouster a
chance, just trying something different.
The first the the very first race of the career is the only
time really that this horse is yes, it was six furlongs over to
slopping going at Saratoga in one of those two year old main
specials and August in Saratoga that are super tough lost the
spunda taught I mean by by 4, but good speed figure, Are and
obviously he's done well on Turf routing, so go and spread and
then I'm going to go crazy with the cheese with your.
I like the nine headline Hunter a little bit - yeah, coming off
of a Stakes victory that why do to actually Turf.
Yep, at Gulfstream Park and part of the reason is a jockey pick
up here with Berto rispoli, picking up the mount here.
This horse says ran well on Turf into efforts a second and a
third. Obviously he's done most of the
damage on the depite at Turfway and then Gulfstream Park.
But should be close to the PACE here.
And if I've got a horse going five-and-a-half furlongs with a
good writer, that will be Coastal close to the PACE.
I feel like you have to include so really for me if you're going
past campanelle, I'm very similar to Louie.
Here I'm, I'm 6 9 11 12 in that order.
Yeah, I'm right there with you JD.
I truly believe that it's campanelle single for you spread
for your pick for and maybe you Figure out a way to play both
angles where it benefits you, but I think it's interesting
with the blinkers off for this horse.
Actually, she did win Slingers off there when she was running a
do field and she really hasn't done much wrong since I mean, I
guess you throw out the most recent recent Deauville, where,
I don't know what happened, it was uncharacteristically bad for
her, she's obviously a great Sprinter.
She can kind of save some ground a little bit.
Wesley board has been on fire as he usually is a Keeneland.
So it seems like this is a absolutely the horse to beat in
here and I'm really not worried about her racing fresh because
it seems like that's an angle that's worked for her before and
what they were opening up 30% when bringing horses back off an
extended lay off. So I am right there with you,
but if you're not going to do that, I think it is absolutely
anybody's race. I've got everything from the
five change of control who I really tried to you know think
about this horse and and say well is she as good as
Campanella? I think she's she's That's right
there with the numbers that she's run.
She hasn't had much luck here in 2022 but this is a horse that's
taken a racing to a ton of different tracks here in the
u.s. seems to run very well without Lasix.
And I think there's a really legitimate excuse for last time.
Was kind of just a terrible start.
Absolutely terrible. So I think that she is
definitely much better than what we saw there.
LZ ended up winning that race and I think she's a talented
horse to, so that's an include for me.
It was the 12 horse. You go and good who Louis
mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised if that
horse go off adding to want to think that's fair with how
competitive this field is. So the six horse jouster is kind
of one of those JD mentioned. I don't I don't know if he's
going to be as fast as he was a De Mi you know so I don't really
know what to do with them but I certainly think that they are
doing the right thing by putting him in this spot.
I think it's manageable he's they tried some grade to eighth
grade, threes of them at a longer distance.
It obviously hasn't worked so, I guess they're hoping he's going
to be just a little bit quicker here at this distance and then
the nine horse you mentioned that makes some sense for a long
shot. Another long shot for you.
Not just because the name is the to start a Vine felt like my
name, and I certainly think that this delay has had some good
races before had a really good run there at Belmont, one the
debut at Aqueduct to, unless I'm not a Stakes race at Saratoga
sprinting. And is another one one of those
late closings, printers. And Abreu wins it well right
now, seven percent, but usually does a little bit better at a
like the fact that Johnny one last Simon the Sorcerer, he
picks up the milk. Yeah, I um, the only think about
Jaster. Did I didn't like is the only
thing Todd Pletcher doesn't do well as go out to spread for
some reason, it's the only thing he doesn't do well.
Yeah I hate I actually think it's a good tactic with the
horse. Just give the horse something
different to do and I like picking up flavian here.
So like, get something different for the whores, just change it
all up. Try something different.
I actually don't hate any of it. I just that.
That's why I did include that horse in case anyone's there's
just a lot. I think a lot of question marks
which I'll stir. So it's one of those that if it
comes through like yeah, I totally see that.
You know, try something new excetra should have put it on
there but that, if it doesn't, you're like, well, yeah, this
is, this is a tough recent right?
Basically thrown pasta against the wall to see what sticks,
right. So yeah, 100%, I think this is
the one of the more competitive race the day.
And I love this starting off the pick for, because I think you
could Really get pretty creative and try to give yourself an
opportunity to start up with a price.
So if you are playing that pig for sequence, definitely invest
in this one because I am pretty excited about it.
That brings us to reason for nine which is the Lexington to
stonetree Lexington, in fact, create three event.
A mile under 16th are on that main track at Keeneland and news
for four hundred thousand dollars we have.
I think a very interesting field this year, certainly going to
matter for somebody to try to get into the Kentucky Derby du
last Kentucky Derby Rep, who'd you go with j.d.
Well, I think this is a very interesting field in that we've
got Tawny Port is the 522 favorite that's done all the
damage on the to Peta so you know, very disappointing effort
on the dirt. So I'm going to look in a
different direction and I'm going to give major major
general another chance here at 12:56.
Yeah, I don't know. Really I've fallen in love with
that trip. In the Iroquois and how much
trouble that horse had and still battled back to win by a neck.
And I'm willing to forgive the Tampa Bay Derby first off the
layoffs. Just Yeah.
Terrible start want to run had a bad start and Castellano just
basically said. Okay we're going to live to see
another day gets irad here. This horse you know should fit
the profile for this race. Come right off the Speed.
So I'm going to go if I'm playing the pick four on
Saturday. What I'm likely doing is I'm
going deep and race eight and I am going to single Major General
because I think Major General either wins this race or you
know, we're never Going to talk about Major General again, I
think those those yeah, two ways this race goes as those two
options. There is no in between, I'm kind
of on the same train of thought there.
I've got him on top and then I had to really reach to find
another. I thought in due time make some
sense with the second-place finish that he ran in the
fountain of youth. So fine.
And then if you're looking for a price we all see it possibly for
any connealy who's stepping up and Strava.
Who gets the blinkers on here and is only one Maiden special
weight though at Last time, broke through the gate, had some
trouble, they are putting the blinkers on this horse, Dallas,
you're a trainee. Gets Tyler gasps Leo in a board
has only run, you know, in the top three, in the career,
including the worst race. So when you're, when you're
looking at a this just it reads to me like a Dallas Stewart, top
three finish or 20 21, you know, get your money in the shop and
show back kind of thing. So I think I will definitely be
playing that worse in that spot. - I have exactly the same top
three. 3, yeah. 7 2 & 3. I'm surprised Megan landed on.
We all see it, that's not use. I mean, it's mostly the name.
I love the progressive commercials, like, I'm not gonna
lie. Yeah, we're like we all see it
as the blue hair. Okay, I like it for a different
reason and so the numbers to but like most no, I get it.
I just Hit the board for sure. Ran huge.
Last time was on that closing kick.
Let's never were stood forth in that, race in a field of eight.
So we're getting into a field of essentially, 10 here, is an 11,
I care. I'm sorry. 11.
So obvious like that. The horses had fifth or fourth,
if it's too fast out front. I mean, you got a horse look,
you know, you got other horses that are going to try to get out
front and be there. And so I think that's the kind
of horse that can pick up the pieces.
I agree with you on, in due time.
That's a horse that if it runs a little bit better in the
fountain of youth, it's right there was implicated Nation but
it felt like a day where simplification was winning and
no one else was going to be able to do much about it.
And I totally agree my major general I learned on this show
early from hanging out with Megan that once in a while last
place is better than say fifth place because you just saved the
horse or the next one we watched Megan I forget like a hard
trying fish. Yeah.
Right. Exactly.
Like a driving fifth. You know, something like that.
And so no. I think they absolutely saved
this sort of constitution for this one out of out of nowhere.
Lemons which I like is a mayor name so they and so, so yes, I
went 723 in that. I put Tawny port in the fourth
spot because I would be surprised if that horse with
that driving Lake style, ends up, picking up a piece.
I don't know what to do with Tawny Port, because I agree.
I mean, the only two great races were Turfway.
And so, he won there, and then, well, first two races, then they
try them in the Risen star. He was up against epicenter
shuffled back. Fine.
But like really didn't seem to enjoy the experience and then he
runs second on the synthetic again.
Now, there was an article I think in the Daily Racing Form
here this week where, Brad, Cox basically said, listen, we're
not necessarily trying to win the Derby for just try and see
if he likes the dirt. Like if we get in great, but
like, this is essentially, well, this could break, this could
break the bars, they've got a points tie at the bottom there,
right? Right.
And he's if he wins, obviously, he's going to get it.
But if he gets any points at all, it actually bumps him up
and he's losing the tie breaker of purse money right now.
So this gives them a chance to get even and he like literally
four points or something and get into the Derby.
So yeah, it's like that and I think just the fact that like, I
mean, I think his workouts are fine.
I think it seems to me to read and it granted.
I didn't watch all these. It seems like where they kind of
you know, pushed him. He had a pretty good time in the
dirt but other than that he seems like a pretty casual type
of dirt worker. And so I'm just really Really
curious to see how he performs in this but I don't know.
I from how it read. Maybe I just kind of wish that
Brad Cox. I'm like I'm confidence in the
worst on the surface. That's right.
So I think a little bit more realistic than like any McPeak,
which is the bomb on the dirt but our I would love if Tawny
Port makes the makes the field for the Derby because Tawny Port
is going to be basically my only chance to cash my Pioneer of the
Nile gigantic. Sighs.
I'll wager that are we? Yeah, this was the last time I
could bet us our wager on perinatal Nile, the last class.
So I did that to honor a horse that I loved watching and
obviously love the progeny of but boy, what a terrible,
terrible crop. Of course, as we write like
American pharoah and then, all right?
So that is the Lexington, the last Kentucky Derby prep, that
is that brings us to our feature race of the day, which is the
Jenny Wiley. The grade one for half a million
dollars for horses. There you go.
Phillies embarrassed for her something up a mountain 16th,
are on the beautiful, Keeneland, grass course.
I don't know about you guys, I went with the 3 and the 4 and
here. So chalk, eating weasel between
Shawn tesara and Regal Quarry. It really doesn't seem like
there's a lot between them. I think Shawn tesar will like a
little bit more given the ground based off of her previous races.
And I think it's going to You know, a little forgiving that
being said, Regal Glory has also run.
Well, on a little bit of a softer.
Turf course, though is over 30 Keeneland but is 2 for 2 at the
distance where shot the Tsar as 141 at Keeneland and Oprah one
of the distance. So I mean I don't know the
six-year-old versus the four-year-old.
I think I'm going with like the younger, you know, new and
improved bottle, but they really seem like a very similar horse
to me. Yeah, I think You have to choose
here. If you're going to, I wouldn't
play both. I think you need to choose one.
If you're playing a longer ticket here, I think it's kind
of a situation where if you spend on a six horse race right,
then you either grab them all or grab others and then you move on
every single, Major General, that's fair to very fair about
who else can win because I think it's probably ladies fight
sphere if it's anyone else. The six just based on probably
going to be right near the front.
So if those other two don't fire coming off the layoff, you might
have that horse in at the end because I think the lead is
going to follow fall to scare be, excuse me, the one and that
horse is probably very unlikely to win this race in my opinion.
And so, if the one is out front, that is absolutely a closer to
me besides the last race. I should say, what I'm Saying is
I think because everyone in this race tends to want to be a
closer, it is going to fall to. Someone Navratilova is capable
of it, but most of her front-running has been a long,
long time ago, she did win last year in the Valley View in
October over a yielding go front front running but I do think
it's gonna be the one that's going to enter inherited here
because I do think Colby Hernandez goes out front with
the rats. I don't.
Yeah I do. I do.
Oh, you do okay. I think we've got speed from
ladies. Worry though.
She'll probably just take a little bit of a breath.
I think her and Shawn to saracen right behind the leader, which
probably comes from the outside. I think, scarpia, the only
option that she has truly because she is actually the
deepest closer in the field if you look back at her past forms.
And so, I think she has an option to win if she can be
quick enough to do so that if those horses kind of give
themselves a run for their money that she's like, okay, and she
just kind of picked up the pieces.
Okay, I don't know her, but the last to be fair that Last race
does kind of throw off that theory only because she did run
into front steps running style ish kind of for most of the race
at least but the fact that it was at a mile and a half, I
think a lot of times you see horses kind of take that angle
because you know that if you said a decent of fraction up
front there, while everybody else is saving ground because
it's such a long race that sometimes you just stay out in
front. So I think you see that tactic
tried a lot in those kind of like marathon races got more so
than others. So ladies, B, beer has ran seven
times latest, by spear has been my top selection all seven
times, at least B, with obviously Roger, Outfield giving
this one more chance Woodbine has opened.
So, Imaging Wilson will be back, there's opening this weekend.
So Imaging will be back Luis, saez aboard.
Obviously, when I see, you know, at field has to choose a jockey,
he doesn't have a lot of relationships with with jockeys.
That are at Keeneland. Choosing saez means I think
Spike Spears. To go out in front.
And also if you look at the 23 + 2 + S last time out in what was
a weird Hillsboro where it was a Breakneck Pace.
But both Gladys and Lady Speights Brewery will were still
around at the end. It was very interesting to see.
I'm off Speights beer here. I really think it's chance of
sorrow, but I think it's really going to be a jockeys race.
I mean, this is a six-horse field and with this whole idea
of all of these horses, And of have, you know, they have one or
two ones and they're in their past performance line and you
see a lot of like eights and nines and sixes and fives, like,
you don't really know on paper how this is gonna play out.
It's really going to be a jockeys race.
So if I'm going to choose anybody even though he's not
done great on the turf at Keeneland so far this meet, I'm
going with flavian. Yeah, for sure.
Well in the fact that he's been, he's won every time on this
Philly, the past three time. So so by the way, just to
clarify my position on this race.
I'm singling shots of sorrow or to be really clear.
That's that's who I'm playing is between those two brown horses.
I agree. I'd play in the three here.
All right. So we did.
We have the last race on the shirt?
Yeah, we did. So we end the day here at
Keeneland race number 11 which is an optional claimer for 62
thousand dollars and it is seven furlongs over the main track and
is a nice little purse. So hundred and twenty thousand
dollars for horses for years old and up.
And I'm gonna go with highly motivated because Because why
not? I think we're getting back to
what he prefers to do. I think we had our fun trying
out the Derby Trail didn't work, to be fair.
He did do well in the Bluegrass. He finished a really close.
I can do essential quality who I think is a super talented horse,
but what was interesting is that highly motivated.
You know, after that race, I was really high on and watching him
train at him or at Churchill, rather last year.
And I think I even said this on the show, he was one of those
horses that I was completely. Off of because of the way that
he was training over the Churchill Downs surface.
I really didn't like the way he was traveling, he didn't seem
like a horse. That was going to win in the
first Saturday in May. So if you throw that race out,
he gets Lasix here. I think that's going to be a big
relief. There was obviously something
wrong because they gave him so much time off.
And now, the bring them back here almost a year later.
I just think it's the perfect distance for him at the seven
furlongs, he loves six-and-a-half.
It seems like this is absolutely the worst to beat.
So I think you keep that ticket nice and small and you possibly
even single there in the last leg with him.
The only other horse I thought about was the eighth or saying
do calling you can delay. Yeah, high five sure.
Okay, great. I tried Brad Cox and Jed not for
lingerie 120. Cumin 1/4 of the distance.
It seems like he's also going to like this, he's done.
Well it's seven furlongs before and it's six and a half ended a
mile so this kind of hits them right.
They're coming off a layoff. He seems like he's got some
speed. It seems like the workouts are
really fast from here recently. So, 12:55, I think that's an
absolute steal. I'll probably play that Exacta
all day long, to be honest with you, and those are the only two
horses, I would use on my ticket, that I grabbed, for this
race, the two, four, eight and 11.
So, the two that you didn't talk about 10 times the to Escape
Route here, I read in, Mark, glad horse has been running.
Well West and so not exactly sure how that will translate to
Keeneland, but we are going to find out and then chocolate
bars, the 1161 Tyler and Mike maker horse has been running a
Gulfstream. Arc.
We've seen some reasonable results coming from her
Gulfstream Park courses at this btran second last time.
Adam, I'll doesn't have to go quite that far.
This time horse hasn't won in a while.
I'll be very, very honest. So we might be getting a bit of
a price here, but since I'm, I'm not playing the late pick for
because I cannot figure out the Giant's Causeway.
I'm just playing a pick three. It's actually pretty cheap for
me. So I can play for horses here.
Play a two dollar pick three, and it's still only 16 hours for
me. All right, I think really, you
guys have the right horse is Did here but I'm going to throw one
in. We're going to start talking
about Maryland breads a little early because once God I like
the tent a little bit, our nation on Parade.
Whoo, way back in the and the two-year-old year won the
Maryland million Nursery way. Back in the day of 2019, this
horse throws some really good efforts in around.
Some really bad efforts in and Santos.
I injure had a nice run at Fairgrounds, I mean, yes, it was
a 30,000 dollar claiming race and we're going up to an
allowance optional claimer for twice that price tag.
But the the starter allowance at Fairgrounds last time that was
not bad, either third, beaten five and a quarter but had the
head in front turning for home. So I think our nation on parade
is going to sit right behind the speed and could have a chance
here and definitely is a horse. You need to use underneath.
All right, I like it. So that'll do it for us for
Keeneland, should be a big day out there so be sure to tune in.
Also, we've got the we didn't talk about it and I should have
put it on the show sheet but the grade one Makers Mark mile which
is one of my favorite races is Tomorrow at Keeneland so be sure
to tune into their racing there on Friday.
I really like the Great Wall on a Friday.
Right? I agree next.
We've got a producer pick from JD, gonna go to throw in some
more racing and their Duty. Its opening weekend at Woodbine
Racetrack in Toronto. Ontario Canada.
And we had to Saturday's card race for which is the kickoff
leg of a 100,000 dollar. Guaranteed pick four starter
allowance, optional claiming condition, sixty thousand, three
hundred dollars. The first four Billy's, a
three-and-a-half non-winners of to Lifetime claiming tag is
forty thousand dollars. We're good, looking at the two
Horse full Blondie with David Miranda board and we're going to
head to the main and breaking score.
This is back on September 5th at Woodbine going five-and-a-half
furlongs over the Tepee de surface.
And on this day, oh Blondie, drew the one hole and took the
field wire-to-wire and is going to be able to hold on,
obviously, going to increase the league here, but it will be
diminishing lengths by the time the Fire comes.
And I will say that the one hole was big here.
The two times that oh, Blondie has ran into one whole.
This horse is gone. Are attempted to take the field
wire to wire. I don't think that's this horses
best running style and drawn from the to path here.
I want to see more of an effort, like August 7th horses.
The six saddlecloth second-to-last right now is
going to be moving up in the outside with purple silks.
Has gonna go all the way around. And this field, this was a five
Furlong Maiden on the turf course.
And this horse is going to eat up ground light and really make
a strong effort for ra Casa. Who's the winner?
This day? The 522 favorite in this spot
but look at the ground. The old Blondie is covering
here. So this is a very versatile
horse. You look at the main win, it was
wire to wire. I don't think this horse has to
go wire-to-wire to win and an 8 to 1.
I think this horse is a must include on your pick for ticket
and I might single this horse. To start the sequence.
Good luck. In all of your wagering
endeavors. By payroll single my favorite
thing about that is I JD's like hey if you need help tonight let
me know. I don't like talking to be
there. I was like you know hey
woodbine's opening. We need a producer for candies
like and his response even in a text message read like yeah of
course jackass. Like of course I'm doing
everybody. Take like what are we doing?
Absolutely by the way little yeah Paul Budaj is Pete's wife.
I think people didn't know that. No yeah.
But or he's a French man in his 60s either or could go either
way. Yeah, absolutely. 20 22 year
old. He's 60s.
But okay. Go on Megan.
I forgot to look when you came up, is that on the ring on the
brain on the turf? Or on the, it is on the Tepee
de. They haven't opened this room.
Yes. Okay, right.
I got, this is everything this weekend is like Or five and a
half for a Long's, every single router.
Sorry there's some for and a half's for, for babies.
So it's also got past weekend that would buy your, your pick.
Their, with old Blondie, is one of those that I love to see it
on the, on the turf, you can kind of come back to me from it.
Okay. Good.
Okay. When they're, you know in the
stride you kind of see them like like out their ankle a little
bit. Like a good Turf course that
really gets a hold of the ground.
I found that That's kind of something I love to see and in
that second Replay that you showed that was a little bit of
what the movement was from your pick and and so I like that.
So I'm if not this race. If they ever his words back on
the turf that's absolutely something that that you want to
look for at least a tie. I personally do.
I think he find really good first.
Have that movement. Yeah.
Next start will be on the trip. The trip courses will be open
and and they basically have always tried to enter this horse
on Turf and just got lucky a little bit but Yeah, still has a
lot of form synthetic wise. It has a good shot and and it's
an interesting race because swirling dancer will likely be
the favorite cow bread that has broke the maintenance at Laurel
and then came back to Woodbine and just likes to finish second.
So I'm trying to read that favorite.
Yeah, love it. All right, we will head to good
old Maryland. Where we've got Fred Federico
tessio day and the forecast is dry. 72 partly.
Honey, I have a career in that of course are handicapping
presented by our friends, there at Single Barrel cigars.
Louis cigar check-in. How's it going still going?
We are now 51 minutes of the show.
I started this week on the show we burn.
And I have. Oh, yeah.
And I have a solid at least 10 minutes left on this thing for
sure. There you go.
It's great. Okay, so we will start off with
race or six, which is the Weber City.
Miss Mallon 16th on the dirt for the three-year-old Phillies
125,000 dollars. It, is it a win and you're in
for the black-eyed, Susan. Essentially, The Oaks race but
before the Preakness, so Jake will go to you first.
Well I think really obviously you know, Luna Bell is a tough
tough tough horse in the spot but given that this is not
Maryland. Bread Company, I will say
Chardonnay might have a shot and chardonnays a better horse to
talk about from the show perspective here.
Trying to embrace the happy hour thing.
But yeah but yeah for puns for like show puns cannot be a thing
from now on. Oh we love slowly.
All right, God. I'm trying to quiet my back.
There we go. All right, there you got your
back, welcome back. So I think he has a chance to
wire this field. Agree.
To go against Luna Bell. I know Luna Bell is absolute
beast but going to my on his 16th.
This is something Luna, bill has not done yet, we've seen kind of
the creep. We've seen six furlongs we've
seen seven furlongs. We've seen a 1, turn Mile and
we're going to If learn about can get the distance but I
really think Chardonnay can can speed burn them out front and
look past this field for Michael Stidham.
Yeah I am in total agreement there I wrote that on my my
handicapping was you can see that it says distance question
mark against it with the glare but I think that's the main
question. Therefore Luna Bell, I'm going
to use Chardonnay for both the name, hunch play angle, and also
get a little bit of a price and then The to for Chad Brown from
it in stepping out of Maiden company, which I know Louis
loves I think is worthy of throwing in there.
If you're looking for, you know, a wise guy horse.
I think she's where you find it. Yeah, I think that's the classic
second level Chad Brown Philly, right?
Ready to run aware of a black-eyed?
Susan, kind of environment. Luke for me would be the other
horse. I think both of you are
completely wrong. I think lubell absolutely wins
this race and has no trouble going Sprint around.
And so, Yeah. No.
That's okay. I'm not going anywhere near
this. Pick 5 sequence because I do not
trust myself with a race like this, but if you want to give
value the pick five, I agree with the two of you.
You have to leave Little Bell on your sequence.
All right. That brings us to the Frank, why
white lie, which is seven furlongs there at Laurel and it
is for 100,000 dollars versus three years old.
And up Louis Louis Fendi first. Sure.
And so, in the white lie, I am very tempted to hit all because
I really can't figure this filled out.
I don't, I do not know how good sorrow for James's, for example,
as a horse, I think he's good. The speed figures are off the
charts compared to many of the horses in this field but you
know, over one at Laurel and that was in the General, George
lost a cord maker or toxin. He lost to is in this race, a
horse on the outside, who's who 621 for some reason.
And so I don't know if that's a leaning on the horse from out of
town. On for your, for your morning
line, I'm not sure about that. Are we sure that just that
disco, Pharaoh doesn't come out of Aqueduct and run, really,
really well for Ray handle, and for Javy haveon Toledo.
I think that's a horse that can absolutely win.
I even think, like, youngest of five who's been running in a lot
of these. Laurel races 722.
Obviously, they take a lot of the horse, on the morning line
Ranch, second to back Fran for the not in the now, from love
for against a bunch of good horses including Josh and
traveler and are token last time.
Does that horse. Get up this time wins a third of
his races at law. Oral borracho is the 3243
lifetime at Laurel a second place as run at 97 speed figure
at Laurel. So, I just, this is another race
where I you either punch him or you don't.
And I'm sure JD's got a nice single here for you, but I
don't, this is a wide open race to me.
Okay, good. Yes, my top selection in this
race is the I've American Patrol at 1:15 a.m. wait meeting.
Oh, I love it. So obviously coming off of a,
you know, it'll be a 301 day layoff and has done most of the
damage of Delaware, but the maiden victory at Pimlico was as
good as anything. You'll see in this field, the
race last time. Which obviously, okay was June
19th of last year at Delaware, the allowance event going a mile
and 70 yards that race probably. Beats this field as well.
So coming off the layoffs, I think you're going to get value
at American Patrol, a classy son of American pharoah, who is
obviously just making the fifth start of the career.
I think a lot of upside there for American Patrol, obviously
something went wrong for the long, layoff a couple good works
for TI-83 Beth earlier this week, right?
I'm going I'm going American, patrols Direction.
I don't know how good sir Alfred James has, I mean, you get a
very inconsistent Of performance, you know, third in
a Grade 3 but you know, up the track in stakes and allowance
company. You never know, get and those
type of horses in these sort of spots.
I just can't trust them and generally will take them off if
they beat me. They beat me.
But American, patrols somebody. And then the other horse I
really like, is 3 over, Deuces. Obviously last to General George
and the other stake at Laurel the fireplug, Fire.
But, you know, going back to the form from last fall.
I think that's even with this field as well.
And I think that's an overlay 821 as well.
Yeah so that's where I'm at. I agree there and especially I
mean Capital Lynch is a traitor whose wedding at 23 percent by
the year off to a slow start with just a couple of Runners
here Laurel. But I mean bringing horses back,
I'll be extended layoff winds at 15 percent route to Sprint was a
24%, beautiful bullet workout from I'll Training Center there
on over the dirt as well on April 11th to come into this
spot and it seems like a pretty good work pattern in general.
Plus you've got the speed plus. I think this verse is best
running has been, you know, at the six furlongs at Pimlico and
Delaware, only bad race. You can really say for this
horse was one of those launcher. So, okay, senator for so I think
you have maybe even more consistency for Morris like
American Patrol than you do from a horse like sir, Alfred James.
So I would be honestly shocked if that horse goes off at 12:45.
I think a lot of people are probably going to jump on that
train, but that being said, I don't think it's single worthy
for sure. I also threw in sir, Alfred
James was kind of a, you know, this is the most recently
successful worse in this field. The three horses you mentioned
also comes off to win. So that one goes in there for me
for Michael Quorum and I use the other pharaoh as well.
The seven disco Farrell, who Luis mentioned coming off at 19
length store. Could act last time, just ran
off the charts. So really interesting play over
there for Ray handle who wins at 22% and you're getting the nice
922 price on that horse to. So I agree with you, I would
5137. It seems to me if we're playing
the said, pick for this seems like where you just pick.
Whatever horse seems to appeal to you because it could go out
any which way. So that brings us to re server H
which is the heavily cause hundred thousand dollar event
one-mile course. We talk about it all the time.
It is the one turn dial here at Laurel.
I feel like you should write that in the graphics, like one
mile. One turn Mi.
I really like, sorry about that for the Phillies and there's
three years old, and up, Louis, could we go to so I in the,
where the Heavenly cause? Yes, actually what I would
pretty short here. So I went to and 10 Miss Leslie
is the to here for 21, Claudia Gonzalez, and on Hill.
Crews coming out. Of a couple of races where the
horse has not been winning, but right there in second place,
gets gets back to the Lasix thing here, ran third last time
out on the Nellie Morse, not a great race.
Their article splatter is in this race as well, so maybe look
over there. I do think Feed Us free is
probably the best horse here. The 10 coming in off a bunch of
wins 143. This year, does have that 93
speed figure in a loss. In that grade 3 Barbara fritchie
keeps the connections here. So my, you know, I'm hoping we
get a Little bit of the repeat of that, that 74.
A long-form last time. Won by seven lengths.
Shouldn't be an issue. Adding a furlong here, and so
I'm going to shorten up. I'm going to go to and 10 here.
The only other horse I would think about is the sixth Primacy
for Chad Brown and her lunch coming off of two wins at
Aqueduct. Although both of them are over a
wet track service Wilma, sloppy one with Muddy at 7:00.
For a long standing mile that being said, this horse has one
of her fast rocket bomb on. It was just a little while ago.
Seems like this one, this mirror always Just leaves a little bit
to be desired. She's like right there.
Runs a lot of thirds couple of like well beaten s.
So this this new found waiting form is exciting.
Hopefully we see it especially in H1 price but I don't know.
But she's one that I think is worth considering if you're, if
you're hiking there, JD what do you think?
Well, there's a great three winner in this field that we
haven't talked about, that's the 9:00 sharp star.
And the big angle for me here is getting back on Lasix.
So the big difference between When this horse was doing well
in the naira circuit and when this horse was not doing well in
the naira circuit was they changed the rules on Lasix and
being able to have Lasix 48 hours before the race or not.
So has been running without Lasix and gets Lasix in this
spot. Obviously, one like that in
October in the Empire distaff, but hasn't ran well since and I
think we'll get a big shot with Lasix on, you know.
This is a horse that in the past has been very Classy and ran
really well. Like I said a great three winner
you know and almost odds on fashion.
I think this horse has a good look, 10:00 to 1:00 in the
morning line. Some of the, you should
definitely look at including your multi-race Exotics if you
want a little more value. So we're all super gracio to
pause. Underrated sneaky trainer to not
a ton of miles, but nice, they strainer to for sure we get to
race number 9 which is the headlining race.
Of course, the Federico tessio 125,000 dollars a mile.
Add an a, this is the prick prep.
Wow, I can talk Pratt for the Preakness Stakes and over to
Louise and so you can speak more good than me.
All right, Federico tessio just so everyone knows one of the
great predictors of who will not win the Preakness and so we are
here absolutely talking about this race.
I think you go really short again here with the 2 and the 4,
the horses that met up in the private terms, last time out,
shake them loose and Joe we had dad Woman on last time, he said
shake the block, shake the block Shake him loose and I was like,
okay, final include shake it loose and then he looked
awesome. And so I'm glad that I did and I
don't expect much of a change here for that horse.
I wish it was in the form of. I don't know which of these
horses is Triple Crown nominated because it's not on the Forum
today but they have to be Triple Crown nominated to run in the
Preakness and so if they win here, they get the spot
Baltimore. I think it's either going to be
Joe or shake them loose to do a bit of a repeat of.
Last time, there was a shipper here and I don't know how well,
L South Street is going to run coming out of Aqueduct one over
a mile and an eighth, it wasn't made in special with Jose Luis
Cano. We get her off, she'll come on,
I was here with Bill mod, they don't usually team up, but I
understand having to use a jockey a local guy car models
hits really. Well, at Laurel is a 13% type,
and so the horse is going again. Well, this year.
Yes, right. Yeah, this meat.
Yeah, that's right. But generally speaking is in the
13 to 15%. So he's a nice.
Giacchino's, the course while knows the layout here.
So if there's going to be an upset sort of horse for me, It's
going to be a horse like the Belmont trainee in South Street,
25, but not if I'm watching because they'll not doesn't win.
When I watch there, it is in your face till Monday.
I like the, I like the perks Invader a little bit here.
The seven got smart enough, barred up and shit.
And I think really, this is a case where Alfredo Velasquez is
a trainer I had to dig this out. So obviously, you see no starts
at Laurel has never sit a horse to Maryland, despite training
mostly in Pennsylvania. And that's why So this is
definitely like nothing at Pimlico.
Nothing really, that's wild, but I'm going, sorry.
Keep going until it's well. So funny.
Look at this. Horse is ran it at parks and
Aqueduct ran in the withers didn't run.
Well, really the main scores, the only thing that has you
thinking, but you know, set the board six is seven and I think
that it's really is similar company that these these men
these horses have been running in the Maryland circuit have
been facing versus what he's seen in some of the bigger way.
Is a parks and Aqueduct. So I really think smart enough
fits with the rest of this field and 92.
I actually think might float up because I do think shake them
loose and Joe probably will be right you know, 6257 25-pair,
probably somewhere around there so I think I'll get some extra
value was smart enough but I wouldn't go past to force and
seven for me. Yeah.
All right. And then final race of the day,
might as well write just throw it in 60,000 dollar Claybourne
on winners of two lifetimes seven furlongs there for the
Phillies and mayor's. Three years old and up, Up.
I went with the fork, start with a bang for the most part, I just
think that this is, you know, she's well-placed.
I feel like you have a lot of horses in here who, you know,
have been in spots that are too tough.
Like take the one horse right Monarch Beach 1416 at Laurel by
10, so they bumped up to a 40 claimer and then a 32, claimer,
rule of thumb is you You go for half of what you broke your
maiden for if you can't whatever that is.
It's not exact all the time. But start with a bang, you know,
when's Maiden special weight before that was in a maiden 40
and comes in here at the 16 down to a totally appropriate level.
It just seems like this is a correct path for a horse and I
think that that's that's certainly the kind of going to
come through here where you have some others that are trending as
well. I mean, I could see possibly the
three Three who did run very well at the 12:5 level last time
against the, the open claimer. So is eligible or is for sale
here eligible to be claimed, has some speed seems have done
really well since moving to the cured McGee Barn here recently,
I tried it once at 19 percent here, same percentage for that
jockey. And then the nine you could
think about possibly with the blinkers on for my trombetta who
is has run at this level. Before to be fair, was claimed
that of this level by might run better was previously trained by
Damone delivery Chico Trainer winds at 14 percent still good.
But I always like when you see a horse that's able to, you know,
go to a trainer that maybe a little bit more successful
higher percentage, whatever they tried the worse in, whatever
spot it didn't work out. I think they're coming back to a
spot, that's much more manageable.
So I think this is kind of one of those races where you get an
understanding of the condition book and moving horses up and
down that kind of lower level class ladder and figuring that
out. So I think it's probably the for
But consider the 3 and the 9 only horse you did mention that
I have in mind is the seven kinky Frolic and not just
because I wanted to say kinky Frolic but okay, that's probably
why I did. But um, I think it's fine.
I think there's a little bit of this is the kind of class that
these horses come in and out of Charlestown and win.
And so, I do love the for though.
I think, arnab logic Boca Chica is one of the underrated Riders
and right? North America, just wins all the
time. He and trainer Anthony farrier
wind together at 37% not too shabby and together at Laurel
around 20 percent nineteen percent right now and not a ton
of return on the dollar. So this is the kind of race that
they win with the for start with a bang.
So I agree with Megan. The for on top, I agree about
the three as well, jockey trainer numbers, all makes sense
there as well. And so I went 347, but I
honestly, I think you could play the 3, the 4 in Peru.
Feel pretty good about the race, JD all.
I can add here is I'm 479 and an honor.
A big fudge. I think there is not a more Big,
Fudge worthy. Exactly than start with a bang
and kinky Frolic forceps. I love it.
I love it. I hopefully Big Buddy, play that
their Saturday when he's doing into the 40 races especially the
last sixteen thousand dollar claimer, all right, like stream
by crash. Thank goodness.
We had you here JD because these shows what it's just Louis and I
know, Whoa. There, I'm not saying they're
not, that's bleep ever. What are we doing?
But I'm just saying that they don't quite look or sound as
good as this needless besmirch, my agree that.
Right? First one I got was even I just
finish your drink people and it with the hashtag not while
you're driving, right? All right.
Did want to say just for anyone who's doing it?
It's only Thursday, Happy Easter to everybody this weekend.
Who's who does the Easter thing. And so Oh I'm missing the first
hour of the radio show tomorrow to go to Catholic stuff and so
hopefully everyone has a nice weekend.
We're doing egg hunt here on Saturday Megan if you were
interested in a club, okay, Meg, it's not coming, I mean like
zero less than zero percent grade.
One at Keeneland, my kids are gonna be running around looking
for a David Lee. I'm gonna be like, I'm gonna be
the dad that's like looking over his phone while watching races.
Yeah, from with your Single Barrel.
Yeah, huh. Oh, I can already picture it
down. 100%. That's great.
It's gonna go. All right.
That's our cue to leave time to pay the tab.
This is been the horse-racing. Happy are represented by
simpler. Cigar Company will tune in the
sooner next time. Join us.
Think that'll be back. I have used her.
