Yeah, I'm doing terrific. How are you doing?

We're doing OK. Did it snow there today?

It seems like every time I call you in April, it snows.

No, no, in fact we're I've been wearing shorts the last few

days. It's it's been very nice here.

That's not good for the people of Denver.

You have a lot of leg, Dennisle. Hey, let me tell you something,

Louis. It's good to be a sports fan in

Denver today. We've got so we've got so much

going on. The ABS clinched the Presidents

Cup for the best record in hockey.

The DU won in double overtime last night to go to the finals

of the Frozen 4. Lauren Betts, the girl for UCLA

that was player of the of the women's tournament, went to high

school here in Denver. And the Nuggets are playing

great and even the Rockies are competitive.

So great sports town here in Denver.

Yeah, no, you guys are dominated.

Here's your Keeling preview with Danissel coming to you live from

lovely Lawrence, KS. If you you know Flory Badunga is

transferring away from Kansas, what do you think your nickname

for Flory Badunga would be? You know what I've I've given up

on College basketball. It's.

I could care less what any of them do.

I mean, when you when, when, When Malachi Marino thinks he's

ready for the NBA. The whole world is upside down,

Louis. You leave Malachi out of this.

All right, Dan, let's get to some of these races this

weekend. Did you?

I I sent it to you, so I hope you looked.

But the Makers mark mile today, my goodness, what a field.

And the notable speech showed up and made it an even better field

than that. Does anybody beat that horse

today? I I don't think so.

I mean how would you like how would you like to, you know,

have deterministic or one of these and all of a sudden good

dolphin ships two horses in further right.

No, I I think I think notable speech has has them over a

barrel today. And I think in the other race, I

think the three-year old Philly side fair.

I think she's she's the same way.

So I, I think it'll be a pretty chalky day at Keeneland today.

The side. Fair, the 9 horse in race 7, the

Grade 3 Limestone, is a Sprint on the turf for three-year old

Phillies. Today kicks off the late pick

four. If you're looking for a couple

of singles, you might have them in that spot.

But Dan tomorrow is one of those days that I think of as as the

real Keeneland kind of Saturdays.

I know Bluegrass Day is a big day and it's got, you know, the

Madison and all those other races, but it's days like

Saturday where you just get a Jenny Wiley on the card with the

kind of field that it has that I always think of as the real

Keeneland days. Yeah, no, it's, you know, it's,

it's just unbelievable though the races that that you get in

and and, and both the spring and the fall are kind of front

loaded, Louis, because you know, they give there's a bunch of

horses that run early at Keeneland that are setting up

for for Derby and Oaks day. And then in the fall there's a

bunch of horses getting ready for the Breeders Cup.

So it is kind of front loaded. But the first first week and a

half, two weeks of of both Keeneland meets are always

spectacular. Well, let's get into that.

Jenny Wiley. We're talking with Dan Essel, of

course, the the UK grade and horse owner since the 1970s.

Not that we're trying to date Dan at all, but the Jenny Wiley

kicks off that late. Pick three.

Do you like to move to the $3 minimum, Dan?

I do, I do. I like, I like the, I like the

move to a dollar pick three over the entire card too, because you

know, people will say, well, a dollar pick three just pays

twice as much as a $0.50 pick three.

But that's, that's not the case because when you have that kind

of denomination, you know, the, the, your selections are fewer.

And so a dollar pick three in most cases is, is going to pay

more than twice a $0.50 one. So I I like both of those moves.

I'll tell you up at Horseshoe they've they've implemented all

the pick fours or a dollar. Damn and.

Oh, really? They pay just as much as the

pick fives. Yeah, I'm telling you like it's

it's you know, they keep the the the take out low and they've got

nice field sizes up there. So it turns out to pay just as

well. But let's get into that.

Jenny Wiley. It is tomorrow.

Race 9 on the card there at Keeneland kicks off that $3 late

pick 3. Dan.

I think there are a lot of places you could go in here

where going to have a likely favorite in the seven horse in

lush lips. The winner, the Honey Fox at

Gulfstream Park last out and look, those Gulfstream horses

have been running great at Keeneland.

I would not be surprised to see her win here.

Yeah, I, I, I'm going to step out on a limb here because I

want to spread in the last three legs.

I'm single and lush Lip. OK, there's just, you know, Bill

Shively, who has Dixie Anna Farm gave $3.7 million for this

Philly in, in the November Keeneland sale.

And rather than take her home and breed her, he, he decided to

run her another year. She's only four to make up some

of that purchase price. But there's just in my mind, I

and I agree this is a deep, deep field, but she's she's just got

she's already had a race. Both of both of Chad's horses

are coming off of layoffs. She's had a race this year.

She's one for one at at Keeneland.

If you look back through the the PPS Louie that the only Philly

that beat her last year, other than velocity, the only Philly

that beat her last year as a three-year old was nitrogen, who

was who was the champ. So because I want to spread in

the in the later in the last two races, I'm just going to go

ahead and single lush lips here. Lush Lips will break from the

seven hole in the 9 ninth race tomorrow.

Is there someone else in this race?

If you were looking a little bit more, I'm going to ask Zach

later in the show if he likes the 2 Chad Brown horses as part

of the sequence tomorrow. So dynamic pricing will break

from the five and suggest from the 10.

Any either of those hit you? Yeah, no, I, I think both of

them have a chance The but like I said, you know, suggest hasn't

run since November when she shipped out to California to win

her grade one. But if you look back there,

Louis coming off of a of a layoff and and a longer layoff

than this, But last year it it took her a couple of races to

get started before she put that nice streak together.

So I'm going to say that she needs one dramatic pricing.

I I think is a is a really nice horse.

I don't think, although she did win the just the game that was

over a yielding turf course. That was her highest buyer

figure and it certainly won't be yielding at Keeneland tomorrow.

And so, you know, I, I, I thought they were, both of them

are certainly capable of winning, but I think there's a,

a little bit of a blip on both of those trad brown horses.

With us here, Audra Bowen Co on ESPN 681 57 talking tomorrow's

Keeneland card with him. Late double starts with the

Lexington Grade 3 here. Short stretch Dan mile and a

16th here. We met Gossgar in this race last

year, Eventual winner of a couple of stakes.

After that the Tough Luck, 2nd place finisher behind Journalism

in the Haskell, for example. Brad's got a couple of horses in

here, but you said you wanted to spread, so we're going to try to

beat Easeman Confessional here. Well, we're certainly going to

use them, but yeah, I'm going to try to beat them.

You know, I think both of those horses have have question marks.

You know, they're both coming off of wins at our excuse me

races at Colonial, which isn't quite Keeneland or Gulfstream.

So I'm going to throw a couple of other horses in with those

two. I'm going to start with the one

Corona de Oro. Looks like he really enjoyed his

last race going two turns, got a pretty nice speed figure and I'm

going to use or who else could I have in here?

The three horse decisive wins. Yeah, OK.

Go ahead. They well look look at that last

race Lou, that her his only race going 6 1/2.

He's disputing the the pace 22 and one.

They run the second quarter in 21 and 4.

And so being his first start, he obviously got tired.

They gave 600,000 for this horse and Crude Velocity who beat him

in that maiden race is now 2 for two and his next start is going

to be the Pat Day Mile. I had Churchill, so I don't

think Doug O'Neill would ship that horse all the way in from

Santa Anita without without a chance.

So I'm going to use him. I'm also going to use the hell

we did. This is 1/2 brother to Senior

Boostador. Todd Fincher is the best best

trainer and down in the New Mexico Arizona circuit and he he

won his last start by 13 lengths with a 92 buyers.

So I'm going to use, I'm going to use those five horses in the

Lexington. All right, so again, Dan is

going to use. Was it decisive?

Yeah, decisive win is the the three horse.

So we're talking about race time tomorrow, the seven horse the

hell we did the 9 and the 10 for for Brad Cox, who was the fifth

horse, was it Corona Dioro, the. One, yeah.

Corona Dioro the one. OK, perfect.

All right, make sure we get through all those with Dan

Issel. Maiden special to close the card

mile on the 16th on the turf. 110K in the Kitty here, Dan.

I thought this was a fascinating race.

I think, you know, Royal Guard makes sense, but a long layoff

there. I'm fascinated by the second

time starter coming out of Gulfstream, out of Will Walden's

barn here. West End Kid, the six horse.

Yeah, that look at look at Will Walton what what a great story

this is. Look, you know, he went through

the, the program that was started by by the guys out at

TaylorMade and look at that. He's winning at 29 percent on

the year twirling candy out of a scat Daddy mare.

I, I, I certainly used the him. I've got a long shot in here,

Lou, that I'm going to include and that's the nine horse

Sharon's Angels. Again, Richard Baltus is, is, is

shipping this horse all the way across country from Santa Anita.

And I'm taking a real flyer here because in four starts this

horse hasn't shown much of anything but a tis.

The law really moves up on the grass.

And so I, I, I used in this, in this race, I used Royal Guard.

Here's Johnny, the six horse West End Kid and and the 9

Sharon's Angels. In case anyone's wondering,

here's Johnny is the name of the horse.

He'll break from the four horse tomorrow for Ray Handel.

I'm here Castellano, we'll have them out.

He was last seen in of the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf.

I'll use him and I will use West End Kid as my top 2, the four

and the six in the closer there at Keeneland tomorrow.

The Masters this weekend. Dan, are you Masters guy?

Oh yeah, I watched, I watched every Prime Prime Video.

Hey, how about, and I tell Sherry all the time, Louis, this

is where this is going with the streaming services.

Prime Time Video is carrying two hours a day to master on

Thursday and Friday. And and the NFL is being

investigated by the Justice Department because of putting

their games on these streaming services.

But it I think that the day of us being able to watch free TVI

mean I've got to buy the Major League Baseball package so I can

watch the Cubs every day. The the the day of free sports

on TVI think is quickly coming to an end.

Well, I think they figured out people are willing to pay for

live sports, right? And it's a lot easier to just

sell Subs than it is to sell ads.

And so, you know, I think these guys know that.

My my cable bill is more than my car insurance, so I.

Well, you shouldn't be driving anyway, Dad, I don't know how

you would fit in a car. So that's.

How they Oh, wait a second, I'm not.

I do remember when you made the the the awful decision to spend

the weekend with me at the Indiana Derby.

You you rented a truck. Yeah, no, I.

I think you like that truck, actually, yeah.

I love pickup trucks. I I had from the from the time,

from the time I quit coaching until until I moved to

Louisville to do the NBA Duluth thing.

I always had a pickup truck. I love.

and who am I leaving out? We got three of our starting

pitchers on the IL right now. So that's it's not good.

But Rusty Arnold won a race for Bregman the other day at

Keeneland and so he's having a better day, a better time at the

races than he is at the plate. Well, that's good.

There you go. All right, a little Bregman

talk. All right, Well, Dan Issel, we

appreciate you very much. I'm not going to tell people

where to find your stuff because I don't think you want to be

found. Yeah, I, I it's been years since

I looked at that thing. Is your wife?

Mark took him out at the end of games.

Mark took him out and put the Garrison in because he couldn't

guard anybody and he played offense defense with Moreno.

Now Moreno so far from the I told you before, everybody seems

to think he had a great freshman year.

I thought he was I thought he was pretty average myself.

I mean his his footwork is terrible.

He can't guard anybody. No, he, he needs to come back to

Kentucky and for at least another year, maybe maybe 2.

But you know how these kids are, Louie, It wouldn't surprise me

at all if he doesn't go to the D League or something.

So he'll probably make four times the salary you made your

last year in the NBA. How do you feel about Malcolm?

You know. For 30 games.

I believe that that's, you know, that's never bothered.

Me. Because I, I know Bill Russell

probably thought what I was making when I played was

ridiculous. So, you know, it's all, it's all

relative blue. I do wish, I do wish I had NIL

at Kentucky. I think I would have made out on

that deal. It's on the record and I don't,

Dan, there are two national days today that made me think of you

for very different reasons. One of them is National Farm

Animals Day. As a guy who spent some time on

a farm growing up and National Siblings Day made me think of

your brother. How about that?

Yeah, that's, that's awfully kind.

I I think of him. I think of him every day.

You talk about somebody who'd like to go to Keeneland.

My brother my my brother would have beat me there all.

Right, well he's day and a so it's also cinnamon Crescent day.

Do you think you would try a Crescent roll cinnamon on it?

No, I don't know. That's that's, that's that's too

many calories. I'd rather save it for a bit.

Little butt heavy, a little butt heavy with Danis and why not?
