It is it is so to quote to quote Mike Gandolfo, Speaking of
Spotify rap, there's nothing more confusing than the the
playlist of a mid 40s white guy. Like it just it's just not it
like so random. My stuff's like yacht rock, hip
hop and EDM Like it just there's no.
Listen to all that. But somehow my my rap said my
age, my music age was 24 so. How about that?
Yeah. Please up all the good stuff.
His name is Barry Spears. I'm Louie Roe hanging out with
you So Cal Saturdays presented by am wager here on the horse
racing happy hour podcast network.
Appreciate you making us part of your Friday.
We'll get you through the card at Los Alamitos tomorrow,
including the grade 2 starlet on the Kentucky Oaks trail.
You know, I should triple check that is one of those is on the
trail. One of those is not.
Let's go ahead and bet before we get there as the terrible music
continues to play in the background.
The starlet yes or no Kentucky Oaks prep, yes, OK.
The low S futurity Kentucky Derby prep No.
OK. All right.
I think that's a good guess from you.
So I go to kentuckyderby.com. That is a website if you would
ever like to go to it. As the music gets deeper and
deeper. Oh, oh, oh.
Speaking of Spotify rap, just play this for a year.
Oh, oh man. All right, so here we go.
December. The Low Sound fraternity is a 10
point race on the Kentucky Derby trail.
How about that? What you know about nothing,
Barry Spears, Nothing is the answer.
To they're both points races. Then they must be both of them
then, Yeah. Did one of them drop off?
No, that's Starla right there. OK, they're both the 10
pointers. All right, there you go.
A10 point race for the Kentucky Oaks.
We talked about it. Race 8 today.
Barry Spears, Lyra, get out with you with our friends at
amwageramwager.com. No joke with them.
A 100% deposit match up to $150.00.
Beautiful, beautiful platform designed by horse players for
horse players. Check them out, amwager.com.
Great folks over there. Barry, welcome in.
We get the Remsen tomorrow. We get the demo Zelle tomorrow.
We get the starlet tomorrow. How about that?
Hey, it's a trifecta, as they say.
Let's go. More likely the The Oaks winner
is in the starlet or the Demoiselle.
What? What say you?
I'll go starlet. I'm going to say to Starlet.
Yeah, yeah. Give me back.
Yeah, give me back, Give me, give me a couple back.
Chad Brown, you move out of the way out.
So Cal Saturday. As you understand, we don't need
to have any of that as part of our deals here.
If you're new to the show, we cap the card in Southern
California every single week. Right now.
We're headed to Los Alamitos ahead of the move on Malibu day,
the day after Christmas over to Santa Anita for many, many
months after that. We spent all of our spring there
leading into the Kentucky Derby essentially at at Santa Anita.
But for now, we're going to head over to Michael Rona and Los
Ponies and all the good people there at Los Alamitos and get
in. They're they're, they're,
they're double headers. And now Barry, you've hung out
with me. You've done like, you know,
Indiana Derby and Wood Day and all those.
Can you imagine having to do like 1820 races, like just like
having to be like functional for all that?
Like Michael Roda's got to be exhausted at the end of these
days. Well, he just does.
I mean. You've hung out with me at the
track, so you know that that's a lot of handshakes, kissing
babies, pictures. That's that's that's a lot of.
Time, it's a lot of time. It's a lot of work for sure.
Oh man. All right, but let's get into
it. Race one on Saturday is not in
front of me because I don't have my PPS pulled up.
That's a bad job. I mean, I should be pro PP and
have my PPS up, but it is a 6250 clamor for now. 3 lifers, 5 1/2
on the dirt here. 3 1/2, three-year old, three years old
and up in here. Barry, we have a four to five
favorite here. Are you being boring and picking
the four to five favorite? Absolutely, without a doubt.
Yes. Chalk zone.
Yes. Yes, more chalk zone with this
race, Yeah. Pro chalk zone All right talks
into the 2. Yeah, Invincible is very is
going to be very tough to beat here.
Despite the humongous drop in class.
I, I I don't see a horse that can outrun this one.
There was a thing that I learned back in the day from Dave
Lipfin, Rest in peace. It was the horses that have the
last two last race buyers. They win like 80% of the time
and Invincible fits that bill. I don't see anybody that can
beat this horse. I do.
It's the five horse, Barry. Let's go to the five horse here.
And that is Righto. So Barry votes as well.
Rafael trades this one who is good to $5000.
Clive, the last out of Delmar. I'm just hoping that we stay at
that level. I think is a better sprinter
than not. Has hit the board three times in
five races at Los Alamitos. And all of those, by the way,
except for one, we're not. We're at a level higher than
this one. And the one that was at this
level was over a mile. So I get back to the sprinting
here. A horse has finished third twice
at this distance. And so I do wonder if we can't
get back to some of that form we saw over 1000 yards at Los
Alamitos at the allowance level back in August.
I'm hopeful Rhino can be the horse that picks up the pieces.
But I went ahead and went 5-2 and six in the first race.
Barry 27 and three. What do you like about the seven
showed? Some speed in the past may kind
of get a trip from the outside, you know when when horses get
clear, sometimes they get brave and and can run on.
This one's races aren't too too bad, not too too far behind what
Invincible has done, so we'll give that one a shot to finish
second there. You go, this is So Cal
Saturday's ranking out with am wager.
This is the horse racing happy hour.
He's Barry Spears. My name is Louie Rebel.
Thanks for hanging out with us. We're here every Friday.
Cap in the card at this time for Saturday in Southern California.
The starlet is the start of the day on Saturday.
Race 2, though out at Los Alamitos is up next.
Another claimer, plenty of claimers to go around $8000 on
the Philly side of things here. 3 and up in this one.
Pure $8000 claimer. Bury 5 1/2 on the dirt.
Oh, first here with this one. I landed on the form to try to
beat the seven to five favorite here with Rhythm Girl.
This is the one that ran most recently in a 16 claimer at Del
Mar, but before that did win at Santa Anita in a $10,000 claimer
for non 3 lifers. So this is a horse now.
Three wins, twelve runs and is winning at this level.
Keeps Armando Ayuso in the irons of Bill McClain, a very, very
good trainer in these sorts of spots. 15% in the claiming
ranks. This is what he does.
Wins at 14% in sprints as well. A little bit of time off, but
he's also really consistent there as well, 15%.
So I like that price here, Barry at 15 to one with the four horse
in race 2. And so try to take a shot here
to beat the favorite. I do have the two horse, excuse
me, in my handicapping, but I went 4-5 into choke cherry,
choke cherry, cherry. Say that seven times.
Set choke cherry cherry 7 times. There you go.
That that that you said say that seven times.
So I would say that if I was one of my kids being really annoying
comes out of Emerald Downs. But before that was running at
Pleasanton and other places. I thought in that $8000 claimer
showed a lot at six prolongs under Kevin Kriger does have a
Tyler Basil board here for Tim McKenna.
I think just an interesting case here.
And then you do get the two horse in rousing Jewel.
The speed figures say that this is gonna be the one to beat.
But last time this horse was at Los Alt didn't love it.
And so I'm wondering if maybe this is one that just doesn't
love the surface here and we could go ahead and beat the two
horse here. But I will land 452 here.
You like the one horse though on the inside here, Rose of
Jericho. Yeah, I'll give that one a shot.
Had a couple races here in the summer that would be right there
with any contender, the namely the June 22nd race 2025 and the
July 4th race both at a higher level.
This which drops into this probably needs the class relief
and the switch from Santa Anita where the competition might be a
little bit tougher. I think they fit right to a tee
here and probably will get a little bit of pace to run into,
have a target. I think they're all right.
Six to one, I'll take that. Yeah, 6 to 1's a nice a nice
price. And frankly, in these kinds of
races, especially the sprints early in the card, we get those
prices hitting fairly often as well.
Barry, I went 4-5 and two, you went 1-2 and six of the last
horse we haven't talked about in that is Sensational ZZ.
I'm leaving out a 2 to one here here.
I mean it it 2 to one is is really kind of subjective.
I I think this horse is probably going to drift up from that
price, but shows a lot of speed. I can see this horse hanging
around when it's all said and done.
Yeah, it's one that frankly, it wins a lot in those mixed
company races with other quarter horses at the four furlong
distance. Frankly, 5 1/2 is a lot of
distance for sensational easy of all things to say out loud.
One for five at that distance should be an interesting one
there. On Saturday, we move to Race 3
on the card at Los Alamitos. This is So Cal Saturdays on the
Horse Racing Happy Hour podcast. My name's Louis Robot.
Barry Spears hanging out with you were presented by Amwager
and amwager.com. Race 3 is a maiden special
weight for California Breads, 5 1/2 on the dirt.
And of course, it is for Phillies and mares that are
three and up. An interesting race in here
Barry. A mix of a Brinkley has several
first timers with a bunch of horses that have a bunch of
experience as well. Which way did you end up going
with a first timer or was someone with this?
Experience I I went with someone that with experience and namely
the overwhelming favorite, the 6th Tiger of the Sea.
Getting blinkers shows a lot of speed on the turf.
I don't think the switch to dirt is really going to matter much
as far as speed figure wise or what this horse can do.
There's really not much in here, you know, if you want to take a
shot with one of those first time starters.
I wouldn't begrudge anyone for that, but I I just think the Six
is the fastest horse in the race.
We've also seen Barry and you and I, you know, we've now done
multiple, you know, weekends of, of races at Los Alamitos.
Man, the turf horses have been good this year at Los Alamitos
as well. So even in, you know, a a
surface that we think of as being OK for turf horses, we see
Peter Miller bring a bunch of horses, switching surfaces,
etcetera to these kinds of meetings.
This has been a spot in 2025 where turf horses are really
winning. And so I agree with you.
I've got the six on top here. I went 6-2 and three you and I
agree on the three horse here. I think Great O'Malley is the
second most important one. I'm going back to the previous
race at Los Alamitos there, Barry, back in July on July 4th.
This one ran really well under Edwin Maldonado.
Try this one on the turf at Del Mar after that, just off the
track a little bit. But if that horse runs back that
form from the very same conditions in July, I think
there's a real shot for Great O'Malley to be there at the end
of the race. But Tiger the Sea I think is
simply more just more put together and as you said,
quicker. What do you like about the five
in here? Yeah, I thought the five could
pick up some pieces. You know, does kind of the
running late in races. You would think a horse like
that would need more distance. They tried that.
It's just not working. They do actually fit here pretty
well. So I think they they may be able
to to kind of best the rest of the horses here.
And I thought the three honey bucket, those workouts seem like
this horse has some talent. Not overwhelming talent OR else
you wouldn't have seen this horse here, but enough to beat a
field like this and and be right in contention.
Yeah, no, it should be a fun one in that I, I just sometimes
these claimers, you know, you, you, you know, earlier in the
card and then you get to a maiden special and you've got
that claimer mentality, you know, just go with the fastest
horse, just go with the one most likely to win.
And certainly that is the the daughter of Smiling Tiger and
Tiger of the Sea. Moving on to race 4.
This will be a maiden 12/5 on other here, 6 furlongs mains 3
and up on the Philly or no on the open side of things.
Excuse me, I go first on the even races here and I
numerically landed on an interesting sequence in 2-3 and
four. I'm going long shot here.
I'm going to try a second timer with A2 for a speed figure first
out as my winner here in A-125 and this is based on recent
works, all of them at Los Alamitos and a four furlong 46
and change work from the gate. I will take that all day with
always a miracle. So Valgolar could get this one
out of the gate for Gennaro Vallejo, who by the way, I I get
it is not a a big time trainer. As far as total wins, he wins
about one out of every 12 races he's in, but does have double
digit wins on the season and this one does seem to be
training really, really well at this point.
I don't love anyone else in this race, Barry.
I don't trust anyone's form in this race.
I may as well take a second time starter that's been working
really well and working at Los Alamitos and so I'll put the two
on top here. Long shot of the early part of
the sequence for sure. Then I have the three of the
four first to fly. Throw the blinkers on this one,
which I like a lot Horses been close but not quite gotten there
in mixed companies. Going to have to travel a little
bit more distance here Barry to get this one done.
I'd like the idea of throwing the blinkers on with the bug
boy, get a little closer to the front, do the little bit more
running early so that this one doesn't have to make up ground
late. So give me first apply in the
second spot. Unbridled David Dioro will break
from the four here. Son of Malibu Moon interested
here because they're taking the blinkers off.
I don't know if I like that move.
I'm not going to lie. I think this is one that does
need to break quicker and more just more these word violence.
Get out there, man. Get out there from the gate.
I worry about taking the blinkers off.
Maybe the horse just doesn't like physically enjoy having
them on. Maybe that's part of it.
But you know, another Malibu Mooner here.
I don't quite know what to make of this race.
So again, taking the long shot here, Barry, I'll go 234 in this
one. But man, again, not a lot of
faith in that in many of the horses here.
Yeah, I'm with you. Actually, I I like the two as
well. Always a miracle.
'S crazy. You know that, you know, I can
always forgive a horse that doesn't get out of the gate
first time out. And then the way the horse
responded with a couple of good workouts since yes, right, that
makes a lot of sense as far as progression.
I I really don't know how talented or not talented this
horse is. I'm not really familiar with the
sire or the dam. Yep.
But that's why you end up in these kind of races.
The the horses that have run, a lot of them have been in mixed
company and the horses that haven't been haven't been very
fast. So I think it might set up OK If
if always a miracle can get out of the gate.
That's really the key. I do not have the five in my
handicapping that is boundless optimist likely favored at post
time. What do you like about the five?
That first race on March 16th was pretty good.
They closed into a decent pace and it it's just tough because
they they got to stretch out to to kind of get a win here.
I think they're capable, but we'll see.
I mean, 2 to one's awfully short to take on anybody in a race
like this. We see Holland Orfer's name
attached to this one. He pulls Kazushi Kimura for the
mount. Edgar Paelleris rode this horse
previously. Would you want Kimura or
Paelleris in a Sprint at Los Al? As far as like speed riders go,
I think they're probably about the same.
OK. All right.
Fair enough. OK.
All right. You know, I, I would put like
somebody like Edwin Maldonado maybe in front of them as far as
speed riders go, but they're right there in the mix behind
him. Oh man, Candyman.
Yeah, I'm trying to think if I've got any objections to that.
I'm trying to. I'm trying to objections.
The only guy you know, what's interesting is we think of him
as a great turf rider, and he is, but I think of Hector
Barrios as a really good Sprint dirt jockey.
Yeah, that makes sense. I.
Mean he stands out that way to be.
For sure, but I, I, I believe though, he really gets his bread
and butter obviously on the turf.
No doubt about. I mean, he, he's really
blossomed as a, as a turf rider. In fact, I, I would, I would
have him come out east and ride a horse if I had one.
I I'll. Go fight you on that on that at
all. We move on to race 5 here.
End of the early pick five of which I do have a car.
I I have a play for the early pick 5.
How about that little 14% pick take out what you know about 14%
take out? Not very much because it's not
much of those around, but hey, take it when we can get it.
That's right, early Pick 5 is one of the the only $0.50
denominated bet at Los Alamitos, and Maiden 20 for Calbreds
awaits us in race 5/5 and 1/2 on the dirt, of course, at Los
Alamitos. Here, Barry, you go first, a
field of a field of 10. This one actually turned into a
pretty interesting race. And I don't know if you saw the
edits on our our show sheet that we we fill in separately at
different times, but holy bleep was my line for this race.
Like, good luck figuring this one out.
Where did you land a race? Yeah, I just like you said, for
that reason, I'm going to throw one down field here and we're
going to go with the three smoke in the air on top.
Nothing outstanding pedigree wise, but I found it interesting
that this horse has a steady stream of five furlong works and
then you see that kind of blowout, I guess you could call
it, on October 18th at LaSalle 35 and one Handley from the
gate. There's really not many horses
in here that have a workout like that, and I find it interesting
that the trainer does pretty decent with first time starters.
Not a huge sample size, and then they get their top guy in Abel
Castellanos. And why not?
In a race like this, nobody else looks any good at all.
You know, there's maybe a few things you can bite into, but
why not go with the first time starter?
If you're going to use a Sheldon Polanius, the trainer here Paul
Nanos, excuse me, why not use them when it's their best angle
is first timers is debuting in this kind of company.
It absolutely agree with you on on on that part of the angle at
least keep going because you and I have different horses here
Kiki ride. I assume you are including
because of the classroom. Yes, that that's really the only
appeal here, you know, cutting that price in half, we'll
probably put this horse in the mix.
They they ran a good race First off the bench on October 13th.
Yeah, at Santa Anita. So that's got to be worth
something in this kind of race. I just don't enjoy the post very
much, so we'll see. I think they'll show up.
I have very different horses. I went 1453.
Yes, there's a fourth horse on the screen.
I I don't love the one here, but I do trust George.
Papa Bodromo, First off the plane.
How's that? That is part of this number one.
Number two in the maiden 12 and yes, it was in mixed company.
This horse actually looked pretty good first out under the
aforementioned Edgar Paeras at Los Alamitos.
This is a horse that's been working at Santa Anita, but I
think if we can get back to that Los alt form from earlier can
absolutely win it Again, I'm judge.
I'm trusting George Papadromo here in this.
But one then 4, Matt's advisor in here was was bad at this
level at Del Mar. I'm really hoping we get back to
that maiden special form that we had at Emerald Downs before
making the move to Southern California for trainer Tim
McKenna, who also, by the way, second off these kinds of
layoffs hits at a solid 16%. Really hopeful that this one
jumps up and gets a piece at least 14353.
Yes, one happy dude, Tiago Prayer gets a ride for Steve
Knapp. This is a class relief play
here. Just hoping that we drop into
this one. But Barry, I don't feel great
about any of this. I'm not going to lie to you.
I mean we have seven horses between the two of us and we
picked 6 different ones so that that that tells you what that
race is all. About so there you go.
My early pick 5 is on the screen.
Barry and I at least agree that in race 3, the most likely
winner of the early part of the sequence yes to 6, is that
right? I mean is that I mean.
Yeah, that's solid. Probably right.
OK, ish. If we're going to try to find a
single grab more horses in the the last in the penultimate like
that's what I would say there's my a ticket.
There you go All right, I'll do pick fives very often on the
show. Yeah, take advantage of those
good those good take out rates. All right, move on to race 6
where we find the late pick for it's a $1.00 pick for at Los
Alamitos. Usually leads to very good pays
as well. It's an optional claimer for
$50,000 for the tag, $34,000 for the purse. 5 1/2 on the dirt
here. This is for two year olds which
have started for at least a $50,000 claim price.
Most of those in a $50,000 maiden type company.
Barry, where's is this? It was race 6.
I got to go first. How about that?
Look at me having to work. So in race 6 I went 4-7 and six.
And so the four horse in here is Fomano's Magic A Listen when you
when a 2 year old colt, son of Big Badly Roy Brown runs on the
track. Barry, everybody pays attention.
You understand When you breed a horse for $1500, everybody gets
out of the way. You understand me?
And this is a Berger Grier, how about that?
I love these people. This is 1 coming out of optional
claiming company at at Del Mar, but before that was running in
the Golden State juvenile higher level optional claimers as well,
but did break its maiden at the 50 level.
Gets to drop back into that kind of company here and I think
should be competitive in this one.
Diego Herrera picks up from Val Breakerhoff.
I like that combination there as well.
On top of that, in race 6 here I have the seven and I think very
quiet on the outside is an interesting one.
This is one that broke its main at Los Algo in the distance and
I think can be a problem again, getting back to this surface,
tried Santa Anita last time at the higher level.
Let's be clear, the 50K optional at Santa Anita is different than
the Losal 50K optional. It just is.
And so I'm hoping Aguilar, Peter Miller get back into their kind
of company here and Doug O'Neill's got the favorite, the
likely post time favorite. The six track Tiger coming off
of the turf was in the the mile last out at at Delmar in a grade
3. Nowhere to be found.
Didn't break her maiden going or his mate.
Excuse me going the two turns or excuse me sprinting on the turf
at Delmar. Get back to dirt, but was good
at Losal before. I think just a really talented
horse as well. So go ahead and give me 4-7 and
six in here. Barry.
You land on the 2 horse though in Marco's performance.
Yeah, first time on the claim from for Peter Miller, who he
doesn't do a whole lot of that like he used to, but he still
does it pretty well. I I think this horse is kind of
not overmatched last time, but just didn't get the grace of
trips and still ran on got claimed as the favorite that day
on November 16th shows up here and I think they're going to get
a great trip, especially with the one in this race.
They can follow that horse because they're going to they're
going to try to go out of the gate, I would believe with the
one and the six will have to go. So that kind of leaves them with
a nice garden trip. And I think they can do it,
Ricky, because Gonzales gets a board, some good workouts since
the claim or one good workout since the claim and I think all
systems are go. Yeah, Peter Miller on the plane
here. A tally will break from the one
you've got a 21 exact to here. What do you like about the the
marsh, the marsh of Stewart's training here?
Switch back to dirt kind of makes sense here.
The horse has got a couple of wide trips.
Getting back to the post relief to the one makes a lot of sense.
Getting back to the dirt makes a lot of sense.
Honestly, I I almost put this horse on top for it.
Not the price, but I would use the two and the one
interchangeably here. This turned out to be a fun
field. Seven horses here, a bunch of a
bunch of data. All these horses have run 345
races already as 2 year olds. This one actually turned out to
be pretty fun. You and I landed in different
spots, but I understand your rationale.
I think my rationale's totally legitimate as well.
And so even in A7 horse field, I think if you went five different
ways here, no one would think you're crazy.
And. It's like.
We got on different horses and there's only seven of them.
Pretty incredible, yeah. No, it's a nice, a nice field
for sure. That end up being a fun one for
sure. Race 7 starts a pick three.
We're doing a nine race cut. So what is the late pick 3?
Maiden special weight $45,000 on the line going 6 1/2 furlongs on
the dirt. And this is for two year olds,
Barry. And it is an odd numbered race.
You go first with race 7 and you and I landed on different
horses, but two that we both have in ours.
Easy company #5 is on top for you.
Yeah, this horse, I think it's going to run tons better second
time out, didn't really get a great run at it and they might
have not been fully cranked up in that race.
I I think this is much better spot, more winnable spot for
this horse. And I know I've said this in the
past about horses that Bob Baffert has that are training at
LaSalle. They're they're they're always a
question mark because for whatever reason, they're the
second, third, fourth string kind of horses.
And even though they get into these kind of spots, they don't
run well. I think the last time we did
this, there was a couple of races where he had two in and
they they neither one hit the board.
I'm not enthused because Falcon Jet look like a horse that might
be able to to kind of train forward but ends up here, which
is awfully odd with Ricky Gonzales on.
So I'm not really enthused with that one.
And it's they're going to take a lot of money.
So Easy Company, I think on the improve those workouts going
into this race. I think this horse is going to
give a great effort. I agree with you on the five
horse. I have him second in my
handicapping here, but I did land on the Baffert first timer
in this spot. Barry, I would largely agree
with you, especially if we were talking at this time of the
year, if we were talking 3 year olds with Baffert.
But I think that this one is just a timing issue with this 2
year old Colt. I If this weren't a Baffert
start at LaSalle, would you look at these workouts from the gate,
Barry, and put this one on top? If those workouts weren't at
Los, AL probably. OK.
So it's it's more of a Los Al thing for you than it?
Is yeah, I mean, it's, it's OK. It's clear.
It just seems clear to me that when he sends horses that are
stabled at Los Al, they're not his best horses in his barn.
Fair enough. I will ride with his not best
horse in the barn, the four granite Village here.
I agree with you by the way that the five is easily the most
likely other winner in this group.
I think that work at Santa Anita the other day on the 27th of
November is excellent. And and so Richard Mandela's
second time out etcetera with two year olds etcetera.
I mean, no, I I totally agree with you.
Diego Herrera gets them out here at Los Alamitos.
Totally agree. Four or five for me in this
spot. And then of course I go to the 8
on the outside just in case the other Baffert does fire in this.
One well, he's gonna show up naturally.
I mean, typically his horses are the better ones on the ground
anyway, so even the ones that aren't better for him are pretty
good in their own right. You have the gelded son of two
year old 2 year old gelded 2 year old son of Union Rags
breaking from the two second or third in your handicapping
Sterling see here the makeover package that we don't always
talk about Barry is is getting gelded.
That's yes, that's that's exactly quite the quite the
makeover package, Yes, quite the.
That's exactly what I like about this horse, switching from turf
to dirt, getting the ultimate equipment changed.
Very ultimate. I but the very ultimate.
Very, very ultimate. I mean, if that's not a makeover
package, I don't know what is. Do you trust the dates submitted
for geldings? Never.
No, I don't know cuz it's only when it you know, I found this
out because I was asking that same question.
Yeah, I was asking, I asked them that.
I was like how long does it take for a horse to heal from
something like that? And they were like, you know, I
think they said like 8 weeks or something like that, so.
Yeah, once in a while you see it listed like the day before.
Right. The day before, but I think
that's only when it's the report date.
It's the report. Date.
It's 100% what it is. Yeah.
If you were playing the late pick 3 here, Barry, how many
horses and you're handicapping would you include?
All three of them, OK. Authoritative there.
His name's Barry Spears. You understand people.
Do you know where that authority comes from?
The mind of Spears. That's where.
Important things. Mind of Spears.
Terrifying stuff. But yes, it's time to move on.
We move on to Race 8. It is part of the late double.
It is the start of the late double.
And it is the starlet. It is a Grade 2.
It's a mile and a 16th on the dirt.
It is $200,000. And as Barry and I discovered to
open the show, it is 10 points for the Kentucky Oaks.
Bob Baffert has won eight of these in a row.
Barry, he's going for 9. I go 1st and even numbered
races. And so this is a first ever for
this show. This is Louise Baffert, play of
the day. I'm going 6-1 and three.
The six horse NEMA is trained by Bob Baffert, ridden by Juan
Hernandez. The one horse in here is trained
by Bob Baffert, ridden by Tyler Bayes.
His name is Hamika. And finally, breaking from the
three hole here is consequent. It's trained by Bob Baffert and
ridden by Kazushi Kumar. I'm going to put those top three
in my top three. Barry 6-1 and three for me in
the starlet. Stranger things have happened.
Seriously. I mean.
I mean that as nicely as I can. I think that's what's going to.
Happen. Yeah, it's certainly possible.
I don't think it's going to happen because I don't like the
one very much in the spot. I I mean, you look at that
horse's races when she goes over six furlongs, seems to struggle
a little bit, and I think that horse might be the proverbial
rabbit. They still might hold on for a
piece, but I think they're in there for Consequent and NEMA to
kind of track and it would make sense given the rest of the
field. I mean, Cashed is probably going
to try to go for the lead also. So it's really going to set up
nicely for for one of those horses, one of the other Baffert
horses. I seem to think Consequent is
going to be the best beneficiary of it, even though fire speed
figure wise, this horse doesn't look good on paper, but you got
to think that was the first time starter going a mile and they
there was probably other horses in there that had a little bit
of experience or one or two races.
But I like the fact that this horse was parked out wide and
past horses. That's that checks off most of
the boxes for me. So I'm going to put consequent
on top. Yeah, you have consequent on
top. That's the three horse just in
this race the the only horses who have gone a route OK are
Hamika in the Oakley if she finished bit by 18 lengths OK
and Jules who broke her maiden in maiden 32 company at Delmar.
Otherwise everyone else has been sprinting Berry.
So I don't think it's crazy for you to want consequent here just
based on the experience. Yeah, and and the and the trip,
I mean, you know a lot of these these early 2 year old races or
late 2 year old races, sorry about that.
The paces get hot up front. I mean you see the Churchill and
their stake races. I don't think it's going to be
much different over at LaSalle and hopefully we can get
consequent in the winner's circle.
It's nice of you to say what you just said, but of course it's
going to go 613 like I predicted.
NEMA is your eventual Oaks starter out of this race.
Yes, regardless of the finish book.
It all right? Yeah.
There you go. Well meant.
That, that feels, that feels like what's going to happen out
of this one for sure. The closer is race 9.
This is So Cal Saturday's on the horse Racing Happy Hour Network.
My name is Lily or Boberry Spears alongside presented by
Amwager at amwager.com. Check them out right now for a
100% deposit match up to $150.00 for close of the day with a Cal
Bread race, $46,000 on the line and a $20,000 optional payment
on to Lifers. 5 1/2 on the dirt here and you could be a boy or a
girl on this one. Gary, how about that?
You just got to be at least three years old who you got in
the ninth race. I went to the seven Otro mas,
another one as. DJ Khaled, this horse, first he
would say his name and then he would say.
Yeah, you're right, You're right.
There's a lot of speed in here. I thought the 8910, we'll all
have to get involved early. Even some of the inside horses
like the four Bazooka Charlie, the Big Price, the big Cheezola
and the two Mr. Machu Picchu have no other way of going.
So I thought the seven might be able to sit a nice trip.
They have some races that would probably be competitive in this
spot and an open company. So that that really kind of
checks things off for me going into the state bread event.
Hopefully we'll get the clothes and go home with the bailout
winner at 8:00 to 1:00. Bailout talk from Barry Spears.
No bailout for me because we're going to hit the early pick 5,
but I do have the 9 on top in the last race.
Jaguar John, not just a great name but also a great chance to
win here. Ran on the turf last time, but
before that was in a 25 non 3 claimer race there at Santa
Anita and one moved into the Mathis barn after that.
Improved on the speed figure in the most recent race.
Just happened to be on turf higher, a similar level I should
say, at Del Mar. I think getting back to the dirt
here makes a lot of sense. Was in a $10,000 balance here
just in September, finished second by less than 1/2 or less
than a head, excuse me, under Tyler Bass, who gets them out
again here. So I think Jaguar John is the
most likely winner in Race 9. I'll go to the seven horse here
afterward. That is Otro Mas, that is
Berry's pick and that is Edgar Pryorus.
Man, I actually do think that matters.
And so I like getting him here. And then the five horse after
that is grazed 7 to 2 on the morning line, Peter Miller.
And here, if that turf translates to Los Al, this one I
think can win and probably win pretty easily.
Barry, if a horse is going to run away with this race, it's
probably the five in graze just by the speed overall.
And so you went 765, I went 975. I'm going to talk real quick
about the three horse here, the big cheesy Ola, which is what we
call Barry when he's not around. I don't always.
I don't love a horse that's on the climb like this in class,
but I love one that's been in three straight races at the end
right has 1/2 of them was second by a neck before that right here
at Los Allen. Yes, I know it was in 6250
company Barry. I just like a horse that wins
man and I like a horse that's there at the the end of the
equation. SO975 and I'm I'm just
mentioning the three because I think that's the kind of horse
that if it wins, we'll look back and go, OK, It's just he got his
confidence a couple last couple races and got it together right.
And so 975 and 3 for me there again, 76 and five for Barry.
Did we talk about the sixth horse in here?
Very much? No Clever Clover, little belly
ante Georgia talk. Yeah.
This horse I looked at this one too, I.
Looked at this one too, kind of versatile and the the dirt
efforts were pretty good especially the last one on on
August 10th. And I agree even the even the
race on August 29th at at Delmar was fine, kind of got out wide
and and didn't very do very much.
I think they were just purely overmatched.
Now getting to the level that where they kind of fit could
work out a trip. I I mean, Billy and to Giorgi
has his work cut out for him, but if he gets good position
early, he could be there. I mean, you look at the price of
this horse and three of the last four races, 65 to 157 to 122 to
one. This is a more winnable spot and
I think they're going to run well.
All right, we made it through our first, our first Los Alcarte
of the of the of the winter. We got one more to go here
before we head back. There's a two more I.
Thought it was 2 we'll. Get 2 more right, we get Do we
get a full week off before the 26th of what happened?
Does the dates all line up a certain way?
All right, let me look at the calendar because I have a
computer from here. I can just do that.
How about that? I think we get.
I think we get two more Los Alcartes dog.
OK, OK, I'll find something. Although we we actually had our
LaSalle picks. Oh our.
Previous LaSalle was unbelievable.
That was the best point. Yes.
No doubt about it. Yeah.
Give us the claimers. Give us the claimers.
It is what it is. Yeah.
No talk zone the the Remsen. Have you gotten a pick since
yesterday when I talked to you yesterday and you refused to
talk about the Remsen? Yeah, I think Bishop's BAE.
I I Oh, I was. Thinking a cigar mile, that's
why. Yeah, I like Bishop's BAE in the
Cigar Mile. Hold up, I do have a pick for
the Remsen. Definitely have a pick for the
Remsen. I think Baffert's old trainee
Balboa is fascinating in there that that.
Yeah, yeah, yes. I'm actually fascinated by.
That, you know, I, I kind of like the three I did I did in
cording. Those were the two I really
locked in on. Cording is probably, I think
about to really kind of explode on the scene here.
I know we're used to we're used to Chad Brown debating horses in
a mile when Pletcher debuts a horse in a mile like they're.
Always. Good.
I always pay attention I they're.
Always good, they're always good.
He did it with I think, mind frame.
He did it with dreamlike I believe, but they're they're
usually pretty solid when when he days views them going a
route. Always looking for that one turn
mile, whether it's at Belmont or at Aqueduct.
Frankly. He started to use it at at
Saratoga as well. It's interesting when he debuts
a horse like that, you got to pay it, especially you got to
pay. Attention and this horse is
$5,000,000 horse, so they I mean they got to turn turn something
out of this. By the way, if you want good
handicapping on like this show, you can check out my interview
with Bobby Hall from yesterday about the Cigar Mile, because
that guy knows his stuff. It's good.
Yeah. We need Bishop's BAE there.
My man Bob dropped into an episode of Blood Horse Monday at
Blood Horse and the Breeders Cup.
I'm old enough to remember the 70s and he just went through and
he predicted this year's Breeders' Cup Classic based on
that fantastic, just spectacular stuff.
I love that kind of stuff for sure.
Appreciate Bob hanging out yesterday.
I appreciate Barry hanging out today, and he and I both
appreciate all of you very much hanging out with us on SoCal
Saturdays. We'll be back in a week.
Los Alamidos will be the site again and the Los Alamidos
Futurity will be the job and the.
Points race. Points race of the weekend, Well

some reason hang out with us every week.

happy hour. Really do appreciate everybody
jumping on with us today. We'll be back in a week and we
