Maryland Million 2025 | Rodman, Illman, Pfeiffer

It's time for the 40th annual Jim McKay Maryland Million Day!

Louie is joined by track announcer Dave Rodman and MJC's Dan Illman and Mackenzie Pfeiffer.

They look at the pick 6 sequence on the card. Good luck with this one – it's a loaded sequence!

Ah yes, back to Maryland and back to cheesy music.

It's time for the happy hour and we're go busy my for Daniel and

Dave Rodka busy show. Of course, we're headed to

Laurel Park this weekend. Saturday state red day there,

Maryland million day, 40th in running of that one.

How about that? Wanted to ask right off the top

here, the man call in the races, Dave Rodman.

How many renditions of the Million for you, my friend?

35 I guess it was 35 preaknesses.

We're not even counting anymore. I like it.

That's good. That's good.

Hey, it's 35 1/2. All right, 35 1/2 for Dave

Rodman. That's great.

Dan Ilman back on the program, whether I'd like to have them or

not, but the MJC made me do it. Dan, how are you?

Doing great other than being on this show.

I hear ya. No, that's a, it's a major step

down from whatever you're going to be doing in 16 minutes.

And so there you go. But new friend of the show,

Mackenzie Pfeiffer, you see her, of course, on the simulcast

there at the Maryland Jockey Club as part of all the covers

at Laurel Park. Mackenzie, I apologize that you

have to hang out with these guys all the time, but this should be

a nice reprieve, at least for an hour.

Are you kidding? I should apologize to them.

You have no idea how many questions I ask.

I believe you actually. But good, good crew there for

sure in Maryland. I wanted to ask you, Dan, a

couple of things. I know you've got you're, you're

Dan's a big shot now for those in the audience, I don't know if

people remember Dan from Phase when he had to actually work

hard and sell things and do those things.

Now he's got this. He's got a throne at Laurel

Park. It's really annoying, but we all

accept it. How does 1 qualify to run in the

Maryland million? What?

What are What are the the steps to enter your horse in the

Maryland? Million you need to.

Marilyn sired or Maryland bred, preferably Marilyn sired.

Now in a situation like the Maryland Million Classic, you

have to have at least 8 Maryland sired runners in the race.

Now if you have less than 8 Maryland sired horses in the

race, then a Maryland bred can sort of sneak into the body of

the field. And that's what we've had in

this year's Maryland Million Classic.

We didn't have 8 Maryland sired runners in and lo and behold,

guess who comes in off the also eligible list?

The reigning Maryland bred horse of the year post time, who is

not by a Marilyn sire. He's by Kentucky sire Frosted,

but he's going to be a handful and 1/2 on Saturday.

It'll be good to see him back at Laurel Park where of course he

is 10 for 10. Lifetime will be shooting, of

course, to make it 7 or excuse me, 11 for 11/7 for seven

already did that, 11 for 11 by the time we get to that point on

Saturday. You know, Dave, the other thing

I know that people around the country are wondering about is

the Pimlico project and the old your tweets.

Of course, when we head back to Baltimore, the charm city for

those races, the hi ho Pimlico's, I always look forward

to those every spring. Do you have an update at all?

Maybe Dan wants to jump in on this.

We've seen the photos around the country.

And I got to say I had one of those moments.

I knew it was time for the Pimlico renovation, but I wasn't

ready for the the photos that I saw the building actually being

gone itself. Do you have any updates for us,

Dave? Well, I did see a photo about 3

weeks ago. The only portion of the building

that was standing was my announcer's booth and the

steward stand and the placing judges.

And I said, oh, well, maybe they're just going to leave that

part up. But it's gone.

Everything's gone. Yeah.

So, yeah, the the the old clubhouse, the the clubhouse,

the old grandstand, the grandstand, everything's been

leveled, the barn areas. So now what's left is the

cleanup. It's happening, folks.

It's, it's happening. It's real, it's spectacular.

I'm, I'm so excited for the project.

But certainly because as we look forward to the spring and, and

I'm sure you'll get dragged in on our Road to Pimlico series as

part of this program, the Road to the Preakness this year,

thinking about it being at Laurel Park, do you at least get

a little excited, a little bit of a change of pace there?

I think it'll be a nice change, right?

I mean, there's, it's a different dynamic once we ship

over to Laurel or the horses will be stapled there.

And so I think that'll be something fun, especially with

sort of the buzz building around Pimlico and getting that back.

So definitely nice to sort of have it.

And that's how racing is. There's plenty of time in

history where things have taken place and and that's kind of the

excitement of it, changing distances, all of those things

that factor into making the history of a race.

Yeah, I think it's going to be spectacular.

I'm very much looking forward to New Pomoco as well once we get

back to have we decided down there, have you all made a

decision? Is it New Hilltop, Dave?

Because I mean, we've been saying Old Hilltop since you've

been around. What are we going to call this

place? Well, I mean, Old Hilltop was

the hill that named after the hill that used to be in the

infield, correct? So the infield's still there,

the track. Of.

Course is still there, so yeah, we can still call it old New

Hilltop. New Old Hilltop.

New old hilltop, Old new hilltop.

We'll have to put up a survey or something like that, a little

little questionnaire there as those things.

Atticly, which is supposed to be correct?

That's right. There you are.

Dan, were you surprised you mentioned the the Maryland bred

post time, Were you surprised to see him back here and not for

example taking a stab at in Del Mar in a couple weeks?

Not really after what we saw in the Woodward last time out where

he finished third of three. And you can argue with three

horse race really is never going to be post times cup of tea

because he's a late runner and he's dependent on pace and he's

not going to get that in a in a short field.

But I think from what we've seen from post time this year, other

than sparks of what we've seen from last year where he, you

know, finished game second in the Breeders Cup Dirt mile,

maybe he's lost a half a step and a half a step against the

top horses in the country just isn't going to do it.

Running here in the Maryland Million Classic makes sense.

They entered, they were a little bit surprised, I think that they

got in. They're here.

It's 11 for 11:00 and it's 150,000 where you're 1 to 5.

Yeah, no, that's exactly right. I can't pass out those kinds of

checks with those kinds of odds, for sure.

Yeah, just I was interested to see him in there.

Some other names for sure, of course.

Barbadian runner getting that breakthrough in the Hilton over

at Charlestown. They'll have their state bread

races after the Maryland million as well.

If you want to hear about that tomorrow morning on ESPN 680,

you'll hear from track announcer Paul Espinosa.

That is the Dave Rodman of West Virginia, if you will.

There you go. That's what we'll call it.

There you go. All right, but let's get into

it. Let's we're going to talk pick 6

on here. By the way, tonight. 8:00 Johnny

P John Piasik and I will do an additional episode of this show.

That's how much we love Maryland.

Early pick five. Talk on that one.

So we'll talk pick 6 on this one.

We'll do early pick five later. Dan, I did want to pick your

brain and if anyone else has an opinion, that fifth race on the

card is a 2 year old race. We're always looking around the

country to see where those developing potential three-year

olds are. Is there one that stands out in

the Lassie? Dan?

I know it's earlier than we were going to talk about on this

show, but certainly a nine to five favorite I think is super

slew purstitis. Easy for me to say.

Going to be awesome for Dave to have to say like 5.

To, well, I'm sure Dave will get it right.

You know, super, super vicious. I mean, it's, it's really not

that hard actually, if you think about it, it's called English.

But at the end of the day, Louis, the way I'm going to look

at this is I'm going to let Dave handle this because I think Dave

and I are in agreement that there is a pretty good 2 year

old in this race. And this one is trained by John

Salzman Junior. Dave, take it away.

OK. Which race is that in the

program? Reminds Yeah.

You're a rerun table fan. Alassie Yeah, yeah, Actually

call the source at Timonium and made this horse one of our

horses to watch on our Laurel Park gun.com/pics Daily

Handicapping Guide, which is available for free every day at

laurelpark.com. Get your free selections,

analysis, track biases, etcetera.

What else do we have in there? No horses to watch, trainer

stats just about everything, and we have Mckenzie's facts and

figures. So we have.

It's so much great information. Honestly, it's not just a

shameless plug it a lot of people will use it, maybe come

to their own opinion and double check it to verify their own

opinion or maybe follow along. But rerun table is affiliate

called at at Timonium and breaking her maiden.

I was very impressed by her because she has good tactical

speed to stay close and she was just getting going when she got

up to win by a head and had a very, very, very strong gallop

out. And she's affiliate.

I think in maturity a little bit, maybe ahead of these other

Phillies. Good, robust looking Philly here

and going from 1/2 mile it will be no problem.

I think the stretch another two furlongs.

Looking for a big race for her on Saturday and she will be my

top selection from the Salzman barn.

Three 5/8 of a mile works since that Timonium race.

I love that. One of those 5/8 of a mile works

when company was Stick with the Colors, who McKenzie profiled

Stick with the Connor's owner earlier this week.

You can check out that interview on laurelpark.com.

It's always fun to listen to Mackenzie and discussed racing

with some of Laurels top dignitary so to speak.

I was talking to Johnny Salzman earlier today and he said that

he's always like Rerun Table. Rerun Table was actually entered

in that maiden race won by a horse racing happy hour favorite

Romeo, who eventually sold for $1.7 million.

He thought he was going to win that race.

He still thinks if he ran, he was going to win that race with

Rerun Table and he the horse got hurt, took a time, brought her

back at Timonium, caught a Brittany Russell train shipper

from Saratoga who was on the lead and it's tough to rally

winning 1/2 mile race at Timonium and that's what a Rerun

Table did. I'm looking forward to seeing

what Superstitious does. He's been very solid.

I think Doc's miracle for Gary Capp is very interesting, but

I'm with Dave, I'm going with Rerun Table.

Matt, could you like? That is hysterical because I

thought I was going out on a limb.

So how on earth you know Brittany Russell?

I think that one does look pretty lively in there.

I liked the way that her horse sort of took a little bit of

pressure able to sustain and then open up.

But rerun table I'm with I saw her Timonium and I mean went

through the trouble of making notes just how much she looked

like she was pretty impressive and ever come sort of the

natural inclination of a larger Philly.

Rear on table a daughter of blow filled, of course, a a son of

quality Rd. And so as you get into the state

red news, of course, you can check out those grand sires and

certainly figure out where the breeding is coming from.

But let's get into that pick six.

It is the Chesapeake pick six there starting in Race 7.

It's 27 minimum going 7 furlongs on the dirt here.

This is for Phillies and mares 3 and up in the distaff.

The Maryland Million Distaff here on the card.

Again, Race 7 started here. Dan, I know you got a run, so

let's go ahead and get your pick in the distaff.

I think Fox Engineer is going to be real tough to beat is the

favorite if she runs back to her usual races on dirt and

especially her most recent performance in the TWIXT where

she kind of sat outside, cruised up to the leaders and kept on

going through the long stretch of the mile run.

Now she turns back to 7/8 of a mile.

It's a route to Sprint move. It's worked well for her in the

past and she figures to work out a similar trip outside in the

clear and advancing on the turn. She's not a very interesting

pick to be sure. She would be an A if I is using

sort of a DRF ticket maker in this 20 cent Chesapeake pick six

wager. If I was going to use a couple

of bees, Next Girl would be one of them because this is a horse

that really likes going perf to dirt and has a strong stretch

kick. That's an angle.

It's worked well for Robbie Bells in the past.

Green Eyed Monsters kind of interesting because this horse

has a little bit of speed. I've got a ton of speed in this

race. I'd like to see Green Eyed

Monster get up close. It's a very Hardy horse and a

bit underrated. Three eyed monster did stay near

the front and take the lead there at Charlestown last out

the two turns over the 6 1/2 up there in West Virginia McKenzie.

I really think that the six horse in here next girl coming

off the turf there at at colonial.

I think we're going to see a lot of these sorts of shippers going

back and forth, especially with those summer races in Virginia

has a real shot here. Is there a longer shot on the

board that you'd like here too? I have to be honest, Spencerian

is one who just kind of intrigues me.

She's sort of a close tracking type and I thought that, you

know, landing a little bit more towards the inside.

She comes in fresh. Is she's been competitive in

this spot before. Is it enough to necessarily go

ahead and get her nose in front? Maybe I have a little bit of a

question mark there, but I really like the way that she's

been running. You know, am I biased?

Stick with the colors. I feel like I kind of have to

use her a little bit in here after the conversation I had

this week and and definitely had a little bit of buzz get under

the skin after talking to the owner breeder.

Stick with the colors. We'll break from the inside.

Dave, is there someone who stands out in this field to you?

Or is this if we're talking pick sticks kind of play, are we

taking 3-4 runners in this? I know, I mean, I think all of

the Maryland million races are very, very tough.

There's 345 horses, some of the races, 3 or 4, five horses can

win. But I I agree with Mackenzie.

I like Spin Syrian in here. Just remember this, this horse

won three straight last year, August to October 2024.

Was favored against Foxy Junior and Sheila's War Clout in the

Distaff last year and ran OK, just didn't run her a race.

Then she kind of tailed off a little bit.

They gave her some time away. She's back fresh you McMahon one

mile workout. I like that.

That's a very, very strong pattern for him.

He gets horses fit and then he gives them that mile workout and

seen a lot of them win here. Goodwin percentage with that

move from the make a man barn. And I think people are going to

overlook how good she was last year.

I mean, a lot of times you can say, well, a horse that was last

year not as good, whatever. She's only 5.

You know, it's not like she's a 7 or 8 year old coming back, so

I think she can come back to a semblance of reform.

She was only beaten a couple links by Foxy Junior Sheila's

work Loud as a favorite. Yeah, 3 furlog workout that a

four, a pair of fives and as you mentioned an 8 furlog workout a

mile there at Laurel Park over that one mile course there.

Very, very interesting runner has hit the board 9 times in 16

career runs, including five of them winners at Laurel Park as

well. Dave Rodman, Mackenzie Pfeiffer

with Lou Rebeau here on the horse racing happy hour going

through the pick six at Laurel Park.

The late pick 5, if you would like to play that low 12% take

out there in Maryland starts with a starter handicap here in

the eighth race. It's on the turf, of course.

Go to a mile and a 16th. This is for Phillies and Mares 3

and up here. Essentially have to have started

for a claiming price of 16 or lower if you are going to

qualify for this one. Mackenzie.

My goodness, this one feels pretty wide open.

This one is so this is the first leg of that late pick five that

I'll put together and I think I go 5 wide in here and I I feel

like you could even go further than that.

So it is kind of a tricky race, but.

That's what's at first, but I kind of dug a little bit deeper

and started to get the feeling that you do end up having a

little bit more pace. And so I thought Canadian Bear

was going to be sort of dependent on that.

I sort of ultimately end up landing there, but I do think

there are tons of intriguing ones.

Divining Smile gets the weight off, kind of a stalking type,

and she arrives fresh. It's her first time in state

company. She's wondering who I'm going to

keep an eye on, and I think she might actually end up being a

really square. I think don't tell Darren the

three horse in here out of the Rob barn makes a lot of sense.

I think the move to his barn very recently third, you know,

third ish in the form cycle or so.

Dave, did you land on somebody here in the starter handicap?

I don't tell Darren's dangerous 3 for five over this course, but

you know, switch barns back and forth.

But I've seen her run some dynamite races, especially

around two turns. It's mile to 16th, but I think

I've narrowed it down to a couple in here.

I've been to use both 10 query on the Aaron McClellan barn.

A little bit partial because I picked her on top when she

wanted 9:00 to 1:00. But that was a Sprint here at

Laurel. But she's got some pedigree to

go two turns 1/2 to a horse named Praetorian Gold who did

some OK running, going through turns on the grass and McClellan

Sprint a route. Very strong, positive return on

investment. And I'm going to go with Peg

Sir, a horse who had kind of tabbed as well.

Just kind of waits on horses a little bit, but seemed to turn

the corner a little bit in the late July race at Delaware,

rallying from off the pace, adding Lasik's out there for the

first time. And she's had a fourth and a

third since that win. So had to track kind of a

crawling pace last time out. Think she'll get a better pace

today or Saturday because divining smile.

Mackenzie Source. I think did you mention that or

was that you, Lou? I think she'll provide a little

bit better lick up front pace, perhaps a little more lively.

Yeah, this is 1. I love this kind of race,

Mackenzie in the middle of a pick six kind of sequence,

because it does force you to make some decisions, does it

not? It does.

And that's where it kind of really narrowed things down for

the rest of the card. And this is 1 where I don't

think you're going to get any kind of big bumps in here, but I

think you're going to get a fair price and it will go ahead and

pay for itself if you can go ahead and spread here.

Oh, I think that's right and especially again the start of

that late pick five. It is a 12% take out in

Maryland, one of the very best deals available to you in horse

racing wagering A2 year old race.

Up next in race 9, as we get back into it with the nursery,

the boys get to run here 6 furlongs on the dirt, $100,000

on the line In this one, we see a pair of shorter priced runners

in here at 3:00 to 1:00. We'll have big cuddle.

I I'm not going to ask you 2 about cuddling.

Don't worry, I'm not going to do that.

That's not what we do on this show, but that comes out of the

cap. You auto barn, of course, with

with with the bug being dropped for this, for this purpose with

Hazelwood drop. There is Big Cuddle a big

favorite to you here, Dave. I can't hear you, Luke.

I can hear Mackenzie, but not you.

Oh. OK, let me play with that again.

Can. You hear me?

Oh. OK, can you hear me now?

No, Mackenzie, can you hear me? That that would be an important

thing to know here. I can, I can.

OK, all right, is Big Cuddle a worthy big?

Favorite I can hear Mackenzie. OK.

That's. All right, Daisy, I'll.

Reconnect me. All right, so yes, I do.

I do think that this is one who is a pretty worthy favorite just

from what we've seen. I mean, this is a barn that does

extremely well in this setting. On top of that, there's a ton of

pace in this group and Big Cuddles, one who ran down that

strong pace on debut to just kind of win going away.

So it's really hard for me to go against this one in this type of

a setting, but I do go ahead and say it's worth using some others

in here just to kind of hedge the bet.

OK, yeah, so we're talking about the nursery.

Yeah, Gary Capuano seems to kind of have him surrounded.

He's got big cuddle who should benefit from a good pace up

front, and the number was really good in the debut.

I think he's the horse to beat. The other Gary Capuano is

interesting. He has good early speed if he

can get kind of clear. He didn't break a right on top

last time out. He kind of had to be hustled to

get up there and there was nobody in his way.

But once he got clear, he went on with it kind of little, like

a high striding action to him, interesting stride to him.

So he he can't afford any mistakes in this spot.

I'm talking about Bud's notion, the 8:00.

So I went 4-8 the 2 Gary Capuanos and kind of outsiders

using a hell of a hillbilly who I thought was very impressive in

first run. And also a horse that might be

overlooked is Lundi Loot on the Inside from the Lynn Ashby Barn.

3 consecutive improving numbers in my book and actually a very

competitive one, especially in the mud, but we might get some

rain late, late late late Saturday with that Nor'easter

coming through, but maybe not enough for his best foot

forward. Yeah, I have hell of a hillbilly

on top here. The 13 for Jon Rob coming out of

that maiden 45. And one of the things that that

I try to stress when we do these shows in Marilyn Mackenzie is,

is the condition book itself. Look, we run $150,000 maidens at

Churchill Downs. That's not happening in other

circuits. It's OK.

And so 45 though, is at the top of that maiden level, so right

below that maiden special way. Right, I mean, I use this one as

well. I I have to tell you, if you had

seen this one in person, looks every part of it.

And I had a little bit of a question, maybe wanted to take

that wait and see approach just because the mayor ran a little

bit longer. But I liked the sharper works

and seeing this one physically. I mean, he is a solid dirt

sprinting looking type. So you know, has the early

speed. I think perhaps it works out to

his advantage that he kind of lands outside.

We'll see if he can carry that over the group.

And Dave, I'm with you. I go ahead and use Lundy Loot in

there. I think that is a really

intriguing one as well. OK, still having problems with I

can only hear you Mackenzie. So you have to translate relay.

All right. Sounds good.

We move on to the the Maryland Million Ladies Day, that is.

The race, Ted. Next, the Ladies Day.

Oh, thank you. OK.

Are you going first? Back on the curve.

About the 16th here, $125,000 on the line.

Phillies and Mares 3 and up in one.

Tell Dave he's going first. McKenzie.

All right, Dave, you're going first.

Hot seat. Let's hear it.

I'm not a lip reader, but I think he just called me

something, you know, just go. Let's say the ladies went to all

gas, no breaks. So Philly, who I thinks just all

of a sudden improved the last two starts at Colonial, looked

like she had a good setup with the pace last time out.

But I think the pace will be lively in here.

You got to a set stretching out. You got concrete phase dirt to

turf for trainer Jamie Ness kind of unknown on the grass over 5

on the grass actually, but place.

But I think they're going to make an effort to go for it on

the lead. So looking for honest pace to

set up perhaps for all gas and no breaks.

It'll be my type. Pick a Bay St.

Bay St. last time out Sprint liked him like her last time out

as a long shot kind of embarrassed myself on the air

the day at Laurel Park and horse did no running, but she's better

at two turns. It looks like they're really

kind of setting her up for an unwind the clock run here in in

the turf, Maryland million ladies.

Yeah, this is a heck of a race. I also put all gas, no brakes on

top. It's interesting to hear Dave

say that. And Mackenzie, the thing that

happened was I looked at this horse's development and I

thought, oh man, why is it taking her so long?

Oh, she's three. Like, why?

I was worried about the development.

This was only three. But they're trying to get older

horses. That tells me that that they

think she's got something. Right, And this is kind of the

fun of Marilyn Million Day, right?

If you can get a horse in here sometimes as she really does

read that way. You hit it the nail on the head,

Dave, where as far as development goes, I think she's

peaking at just the right time. I worried she was a little bit

pace dependent, but that's kind of what I think ends up suiting

her well in here because you have some speed stretching back

out. On top of that.

I think there are a few unknowns and that might just sort of play

to their advantages to just kind of get up to the front and be

sort of sitting close to it. So I think they will have a

pretty honest set up. I'm with you on Bay St. as well.

Mopo is the one who, how can we not talk about because I

remember watching this horse back in the spring and I

thought, Oh dear, I would not be surprised if this horse scored

an upset and I've really liked what she's been doing ever

since. She tried the turf, but

sprinting last time out, it wasn't necessarily convinced it

was going to work out. We saw a different version of

her where she was coming from off the pace and I mean she was

game in doing so. So does that work to her

advantage kind of getting outside and maybe having a full

a few more tricks to work with? She seems one who's kind of

intriguing. So I I go all gas no breaks and

Mopo in here. Yeah, she's going to be in a

prime spot right off the pace. I think Mackenzie from that

outside draw, it's not too far outside, but just just a note to

the winner of that race. Spiteful Sis kind of ran off the

screen, remember and prepare for takeoff, bounced out of that

race to win, came back. So the race already produced a

winner. Mopo in a great spot about the

3/8 pole to the quarter, pole to the 8th pole.

Can she follow through and keep that momentum going and hold off

any closers? There's a daughter of of Lemon

Drop Kid in here. Live life, love and laughter.

Mackenzie. Do you know if there's a chance

that horse will draw in the 10 horse here?

That well, so this is one of the notes that I actually have for

the program is or for the guide, because if that one does draw

in, I think it changes things pretty drastically in the race.

You know, how am I supposed to know I don't have any to end up

running in here, though we'll see if she's sitting there

holding her breath waiting to get in because I think that

would definitely change things. What we have up until 45

minutes. Luckily it's, you know,

hopefully we can get our tickets in.

Life, love and laughter. We'll break from the 10.

We'll wear the 10 saddle cloth at least.

We'll break from the 9:00 at the best.

If that horse does draw in, if she's able to get in there.

The Classic is up next. It is the Maryland Million

Classic race 11. Start of the late double

$150,000 on the line. And here we do get the Hilton

Memorial winner in Barbadian Runner.

But of course, the return of the 10 for 10 at Laurel post time,

we go to Dave first because I think if you wanted to knock

post time McKenzie, the easy thing to do would say he's one

for five at the distance. Dave, I know you feel a little

differently about the classic. Dave, do I need to translate?

I think so. Whatever it was.

OK. Should I laugh?

Yeah, sure. Play along.

So, so we're going to go to you first.

What? We'll go to you first because

Louie's wondering whether or not you're going to argue about post

time being. Is it one for five at this

distance? It's not the distance.

I just I just think that at that price, it's worth taking your

little shot here, right? And a horses in form right now

is Blue Kingdom 2 for two since moving to the nest bar And I've

kind of always been a fan of this horse way back when broke

its maiden at Laurel. Just a robust looking kind of

Gray horse, a really good looking horse on the racetrack.

So so is post time. It could be quite a matchup in

the quarter pole home. I think Blue Kingdom, obviously

Blue Kingdom I think has more tactical speed and that that

could work to to his advantage. The sires first Mondays by

Curlin, average wind distance according to Daily Racing Form

for first Mondays, 9.1 furlongs. I'll take my shot here for a

horse who's in form that kind of followed throughout his career

and every time I played him, he didn't win, but like play like a

Raven. He was 19 to one second there.

Really strong race, a grinding run for the place back going 7

furlongs on the slop. I think he might get a good run

first run around the far turn. That's.

I mean I'm nothing against post time.

It's other than he's going to be a super short price if you're a

player. Yeah, if you're playing race to

race, for sure, post times value in this race is pretty low for

sure Mackenzie. But if there is another horse

that will beat him, would it be a Blue Kingdom for you?

I so I'm curious how everyone really feels about this one

because I think that one's going now relative to post time.

You're going to get a better value on Blue Kingdom for sure.

But I still think that's a horse who's going to take a little bit

of action. Barbadian Runner is 1 for me, he

has to try older company for the first time and so if I'm going

to go ahead and try something at, he's a horse who I kind of

followed and he doesn't really owe me much because I think I

caught him at the right time as he was really sort of figuring

things out over the winter. But I'm just a big fan of the

way he does it, and I think there is enough pace in here

that perhaps he's one who it sets up well for.

I don't. I know if I necessarily trust

Blue Kingdom, I think he's the speediest of the bunch, but can

he do it for this distance? And is he going to have his way

every step of it? I'm interested in feeling Woozy,

the 8 horse here who did have to go the two turns at Park Go

Parks go in a mile did win last out before that one over Good go

at Delaware as well. We saw that horse at Pimlico

over Preakness weekend as well. It seems to be a hit or miss

kind of horse. You're either going to get a

winner, you're not going to get a win.

That's essentially what this horse does as far as its recent

runs. But I'm I'm I'm fascinated by

feeling woozy. I think out of the nest bar in

there too. I don't think this horse is

entered by accident really do it like the the look of the recent

works as well. Mackenzie, can you ask Dave if

he has a favorite classic winner or classic race?

Dave, do you have a favorite classic winner or race?

I mean in my era here we got 8 to fast to catch, won the race

three times. Can you hear me?

8 to fast to catch wanted in 2011 and 13 and 14.

Wow, that's pretty incredible. Yeah, three time winners is not

not something that we see very often, but thank God for these

these state bred opportunities. The closer on the card, of

course is the Maryland million. A Sprint.

We're going 6 furlongs on the dirt here.

Us are three and up $100,000 on the line here.

I'll go first. Mackenzie in this one.

The eight horse lands on top for me here in Haley's first notion,

it is the 2 to one favorite for Gary Capuano comes out of a

state bred at the Delaware racetrack.

Most recently did win in an optional claimer $62,000

company. Before that, neck losses and a

head loss before that moves to Sanchez.

I like that move. The most recent works have made

a lot of sense there as well. So I'll ride the the Gary

Capuano train. Halley's first notion on top.

I went to the one horse for a longer shot here in Catahoula

Moon and I think that one out of the Rob barn makes a lot of

sense as well. Has hit the board in eight runs

and fourteen tries at at Laurel, and while I don't expect that

horse to win, Mackenzie I think will be part of the final

equation. Who'd you land on in the Sprint?

OK. So I take a different approach.

I'll fill Dave in. So Louise here going.

Oh boy. Hey no man, poor this this poor

episode. Let me see if I can do the.

Private chat here. Place first notion and then

Catahoula. Moon is his other one, so the

right at the end of the day, but I just take a little bit of an

intrigue because I thought this is one who you talk about horses

stepping up, peeking at the right time, second off the

bench, second against winners here the last time out just

really was visually impressive for me and that's where I

thought he might stick around late.

I don't necessarily think he's going to step up and and run the

race to win or I'm not expecting him to, but he takes a little

bit of an intrigue for me and I think he's one who might be

overlooked amongst the group. Was that the four wicked divine?

It is, yes. OK, cool.

OK. Just wanted to make sure your

your connectivity went out for just a second there.

Dave, Dave, Dave, Dave, it's your turn.

Dave No. Translate.

Dave, Dave, your turn. This is like, this is like the

United Nations here. You know, it's like it's worse

it's way. Worse.

OK. Are are, are are you asking me

about? Are you asking me about the

Mellon million Sprint? The Sprint, Yes, the.

Sprint, that is right. The Sprint.

Yeah, teleprompter for Dave. I went with Slam Notion, the

Robbie Bails Barn, Great Notion, You know, I mean, right?

Allen's prospects, still the leading Maryland sire of after

all these years of Great Notion rolling, still still around and

slam Notion. He's just informed right now.

His only blemish really was the Chick Lange tough, tough group

and then the turf race and his last few starts.

Other than that, he's just super, super consistent no

matter what the track condition by the final race and maybe a

little bit of rain I think coming through the area, so they

say. But you know, the tracks would

be fast and firm. We've really needed the the rain

here with that Nor'easter coming through for Sunday here at

Laurel. He's going to be tough to hold

down. I think the other horse of it to

look at is Hurt on the Street, who I thought had a great setup

last time out and failed to follow through.

But oh, you know, Rominski turned out to run his old race

again, right? I think one of his best races

last out and nobody's going to beat Rominski when he's right.

So I he had the paste unwind to last time out.

He did get beat by twisted ride, who I thought ran a tremendous

race, but heard on the street had some trouble in that race

and still managed to rally a little bit.

So that's going to be my exact. I like that exact a box and the

finale. If you're going to, if you're

that kind of person wants to do that there.

You go. All right.

Well, Dave Rodman and Mackenzie Pfeiffer, of course.

You can find all of their stuff. We're right here at

laurel.com/pics. What else is available there,

Mackenzie? I mean, there's so many trip

notes, all kinds of great things.

Right. I mean, you really do have to go

ahead and click on that guide. You don't even have to put your

e-mail in. We just give it out.

But tons of notes going through there.

We all kind of rack our brains and try to share what we think

and what we know. So go ahead and take advantage

of that. When you click on it, you'll get

the pics and then the next button is download handicapping

guide and that's like opening the door.

You get all the information, trip notes and Max notes and

Callie has notes in there as well.

Track biases. So if you don't really watch

Laurel and you're going to be watching on the weekend, you'll

get to see which days were closer speed.

Generally pretty fair track, but there are a couple of days there

and some horses to watch for future reference as well.

And Mackenzie, Dave, Dave, Dan, Dan mentioned a piece that you

have up currently. Who were you talking with?

Which horse was it about? Yeah, so stick with the colors

in the Distaff. Her owner and breeder, it's a

great story where he, you know, asked to have the mayor when she

was finished racing and wanted to make sure she had a good

home. And next thing you know, every

single one has been a runner and a winner.

So I think, you know, maybe there's a 2 year old or or so,

don't quote me, but you know, really, really well producing

mayor. So she'll be on the inside in

the Distaff, probably has a target on her back, but she runs

best when she's fresh and hopefully this is her race.

Well, fantastic. Well, I appreciate both of you

jumping on. We got Dan Ellman out of the

way, which is always the best thing to do, of course, but of

course, Laura laurapark.com/pics.

Well, happy million. So nice to have everybody on and

please just apologize to Dan Dave for me right now.

So let's do that. Oh, Dave, you said apologize or?

Yeah, tell Dave I'm sorry that he can't hear me, that I don't

know at all what's more about. It this is that's how most

people most people listen to my race calls kind of like that

way, right? They just don't want to get

home. Lips moving, but they're out in

the Preakness. Click there.

Well, there it is. Well, Dave can't hear me, but he

knows this. I'm a huge fan of his and so

it's good, but so thank you. I can tell you I'll be reading I

turn into a pretty good lip reader, so watch out next time.

I love Dave. He said he wants an autograph.

Well, there we go. Thank you Mackenzie.

Thank you Dave. We'll get them out of here on
