Preakness 148 Trail – Laurel Winter Carnival

Louis sits down with Dan Illman and John Piassek to talk about the Preakness Trail. Everyone gives their picks for the races at Laurel.

Full Transcript

All right. Time to get after it here in a

dead. Sure time.

Louis Robo additional episode of the horse-racing happy hour.

We're gonna Maryland this week, folks decided after talking with

John, my guy, John Kasich from the Maryland Breeders

Association. And then, of course, with our

guide, an element from the brf find.

Both those guys on Twitter, get all their stuff will promote as

we go. But I've decided I've made a

very important decision since I adore.

The Preakness in the way that I've you were going to the

Preakness and producers a can speak to this.

We're doing road to the preakness this year.

And we're doing it in a like, unpleasantly deep way.

Like we're going to dive in to everything that we possibly can

and I can think of no two better people to hang out with them.

These two guys Dan and John. How are you guys doing?

Great doing great. Look good.

Yeah, same here, a with very cold and wet day here in

Maryland, but it's better to get out of the way now.

And have it be a damp down Saturday?

That's for sure. No, that's right.

We're all. So, you know, I'm doing a show

at 8:00 with our folks, that a fair grounds about the lecompt

of course. And I think Could be like 38

degrees with a rental income, which is not what they're used

to it. No, not that was like so cute.

Exactly. We had a, we had a moment about

a month ago and I say moment about 40 hours out of 48 where

the actual temperature was below zero here.

Wow, Kentucky you got I got our heating bills, not good.

So it's not the thing that we were looking at, but we are

going out for winter carnival. Yeah, I I suggest we call this

spectacular bed day but I was shot down Maryland, Jockey Club.

Happy with me, I'm just kidding, but six takes on the card here,

just to State races. So you actually get a fair

number of Wide Open Fields. Frankly, as far as who's allowed

to enter here. Have we seen good horses?

Come out of this day before? Dan?

What sort of the I do. The extra heat hasn't been run a

ton for example, but I know that that spectacular bit has a bit

more history to it a little bit more history to it.

But right now I think that these three year olds and me Maryland

are still sorting themselves out, we had a pretty nice one

Luna Bell last year and she took us all the way to The

Black-eyed. Susan as a local horse.

But right now, the two best three-year-olds in Maryland.

I think John might agree with me on this one or the unbeaten,

post time and recruiter trained by col Lynch and they're not

going to be in the spectacular bid.

So it opens things up a bit for maybe someone to sort of throw

their hat into the ring. You can jump.

Yeah, I mean post time as Dan noted so far, extremely

impressive in his three starts. He's not in this race.

I'm I'm not quite sure why hopefully everything's okay with

him. And as Dan said, recruiter a

Florida bread trained by cow Lynch one.

The post Futurity be weeks ago and Cal sounds like he has a

site set up in early with them. So it will not fires me to see

him in a race like the Gotham. Who perhaps even the Widow's at

some point in the past few weeks.

But it's pretty good filled with you nonetheless, we have hell

dish, newly trained by Mike - was the Maryland.

Red sails Topic at fasig-tipton December sale in Timonium.

We have coffee with Chris who traces his lineage back home

over 60 years worth of Rooney bread Home Goods in Maryland on

faculty is great. Great, great, great.

I think I have all the Five-time great-grandfather was

Christopher, our was the my own, but mostly you in 1875 and what

we won't be home today. Along with friends of Jericho a

donkey bird, started off his crew on a personal note, for

Brittany Russell, lost coffee with Chris lat.

Last time, our hope that own table Series.

So definitely if you are interested.

Mid-Atlantic base through old both in the SEC both in

detective Bid And in the extra heat The Phillies.

Yeah so reminder to we talk about this every time Dan's on

to talk. Maryland.

It's the pick fives with the lowest take outs of those are

absolutely. The best bets in Maryland.

So Dan remind me is at 12%. Maryland, 12%!

Take out of the pick fives and the link pick five has carryover

potential. So if nothing is it you get a

big pool into the next day but it's a great opportunity 12% in

the Big Five's? Yeah really is especially if you

don't play Maryland all the time.

It's still you know with a take out like that.

You know I think a lot of people jumped on, for example, the

Wednesday night late pick, The Turfway Park just because there

was a carryover, right? And I mean I get four out of

five and made money because of the carryover.

So it's one of those opportunities sometimes 12

percent pays for itself indeed. So let's get into it man.

I'm excited. I so John kind of talked me

through it and I made the joke last week you know in New York

the boys run these one turn mile races while they expect the

girls to run these to turn my own 1/8 races, I think Marilyn

gets this trip to gets this really right.

We're running seven for a long and six Furlong races for the

three year. It's who frankly, were two years

old, like, I don't know, 20 days ago.

And so I think that the trail is pretty well set up here.

I know obviously we're leading to the tessio as the final and

most important prep for the Preakness.

If you win the tessio, you get a spot in the Preakness in the

same way. That if you win the El Camino,

Real de Derby, excuse me, out to Golden Gate, you get a spot.

John, what are the other stops along that will be doing well?

It's a four prong stretch. Of course, this is a spectacular

bid, will have the milk award steaks coming up on February

8th. Teeth part of the general,

Jordan Bible fishy under codes. Yeah, then on March 18th, it's

the private term steaks and then April 15th, we'll wrap things up

with that SEO. The first two tone aires in the

series, it's Mile and an eighth. This Vector B is seven furlongs

and the other to go a mile. So it's a nice linear

progression of distances. Let's have one trash out and And

what sure it will get. And we'll get us further Wings.

Yeah, caught on what John just said, they're the first to turn

race being in the tessio. It's because Laurel does have

that Mi shoot. Like you would see in the

Churchill Downs are Saratoga or something like that.

So if you're new to the Laurel scene, that's what he's talking

about there. So let's get straight into it

Race 3 here, part of that early pick five.

The extra heat. And so this is a, this is a six

furlongs for those three year old Phillies trying to get their

way to The Black-eyed. Susan obviously on the Filly

side. We've seen some nice horses.

Come along this Trail. Actually as you mentioned an did

you land on someone in particular we've got a couple of

less than 22. Once here with chick Enos in the

one hole for Jamie nest and then of course, with L Street lady

for first. I mean, I mean super trainer at

this point pretty Russell, the chicken is going to be tough in

here for Jae Min s. She won the Maryland Million

last year. She had a really Nice campaign.

I think if you there is a question mark surrounding

trickiness, however, its blinkers on after a win.

And if you watch her most recent start, it was a first-level

allowance. She was odds on.

She made the lead and in mid stretch.

She just seemed to shy away from something and ducked out about

four or five paths. And I talked to her Trader Jamie

Nest this morning and he was very concerned about that.

He said it looked like she wanted to prop.

They've been Breeze to her and blinkers.

They popped her out of the gate and blinkers.

And he simply said she needs blood A.

But at the end of the day with her blinkers, with her natural

speed, she might be able to get right to the front and take

this. You'll do all the way of the

Russell, trainees and here are both very good L Street Lady

Grace and charm interest in talking to Brittany earlier

today, they love Grace and charm who sort of the other Brittany

since day one. And Brittany said, I think this

one was fooling me because she tried.

So great in the morning and she couldn't get out of her own way,

after her first, three, or four starts, but maybe the additional

Lasix last time helped. Put her over the top.

And if there is a speed dual, maybe she comes with a run, but

I think it's chicken is shows her speed and he or she has a

big Edge as for the black-eyed. Susan, I'm not holding my

breath. Is there any do you read

anything into? I assume the black-eyed.

Susan is an onlay, six races. That is that right grated State,

probably? Yeah, right.

Okay, so my sense is, you know, every horse in this field except

for will see running with Lasix. Is that a giveaway that this

horse isn't aiming for that kind of level or is it just, hey,

she's 3. I can use license.

No, I think we see horses go on and off Lasik Soldier time,

depending on the rules. I think most Traders prefer to

run with Lasix. It gives them an extra sense of

security that maybe these horses won't bleed and also provides a

bit of an equal playing field. These trainers know that 90% of

the other trainers are going to run on Lasix.

So why don't I and the playing field, of course, gets equal

again, when we move into the graded stakes and they all have

to come off, John Jelena of anyone here.

Well, as Dan, alluded to, there's a lot of speed in here,

chicken. Obviously most dangerous speed

and and and alone, Maryland, vet in the field, sired by mu mu

phones down in blofeld, who has been are creating a very fast

start at Stone so far. Filter life, a cow Lynch also

has a lot of speed as you both Britney's Grace and try on L

Street lady. So, generally when there's a lot

of speed on paper, it goes one of two ways, either those a very

fast speed or and it it, it, it sets a foreclosure Or one voice

end up getting away and goes gate to live.

I think if one of those ends up going D to wire, it it will be

checking this. She has a good draw.

When Kate while ass out, come tour, the inside it, her to five

stars. She got engaged in very fast

early, factions on pretty disruptive Paces, but held out a

lot better than that. Everybody else who was either

Especially in a male and juvenile fillies takes to starts

back and what anybody else was on that pays got burned out.

At least top two finishers came from well often she hung on.

Well, do held on and finished, fourth, I like a bit of a long

shot in here. If the pace is, is kind of

meltdown. And that is number five will see

Pennsylvania grad trained by the king of pain.

National Bruce Kravitz, she's Trooper to Lifetime one both of

who starts at Penn by a combined 19 and three-quarter length.

And at the last second I thought was a pretty big step forward in

her debut duel on the pace. Be a pretty soft field, not a

great speed figure last time out though.

Huh, on December 14. It was her first start against

winners. Set off a fast pace, pick the

way to date, very good speed figure on business scale with a

75 and an 11-point improvement over her debut.

And their workout sensor, where it went, Um, for furlongs in 48

at Penn last Saturday, 12 to one on one in line, I do believe in

a small pill like that. I think should be a great value,

dude. Do horses tend to translate well

from that surface at Penn National you don't see too many

Shifu 10. That's why I'm asking what we

hear. But being done now, huh.

Can I do think too much of it? I think if anyone.

Yeah, like if, if she has the pace and guess the trip, it's

not going to matter too much, that it's a new track because we

feel Why don't you know, for the Delaware in the parks in the

Laurel and that they all seem to translate pretty well to one

another. So I was just wondering about

Penn National there. We'll move on to the fourth race

here. This actually starts the the

Rainbow Six here at a at Laurel, and this is the Jennings.

And this is a four year olds and up, Maryland bread or Maryland,

sired to you. If you're Marilyn bread, you get

the preference. If you Maryland.

Sired, you can sneak in the back of the field by a free

subscription here, going that one.

I once heard Mi this is just for for it up and for those Maryland

folks and Dan will go back to you.

Hear a That if you follow the scene at all, runs a ton there,

82 beer called in the one spot. Had some other horses here that

have read a bunch of cool area. Of course, and plot the dots,

any of those local horses. You think, in the best spot

here, I do think eight the beer. Cold is coming back into his

good form. But keep in mind, he's been

wearing bars shoes in his last two races.

So listen to from some changes from day of Rodman before post

time and before the the day is the Starks off at Maryland on

Saturday, but ain't of your cold really made a step forward last

time. Timeout in the man fuse.

Oh, and open State phrase, going to mild 1/8.

He engaged a couple of other pay sources.

One of them, being our nation, on Parade, who's in this race

and I believe is the morning line favorite a positive 55.

Yep, got rid of the other speeds turning into the stretch and

then was run down by a closer nimitz-class who just seem to be

in very good form. It was your classic, he won the

battle, he lost the war now he's going to have to cut back to a

mile and the fractions might be a little bit sharper.

I think the source is just versatile.

He's Good form, any Cox is an underrated trainer and I think

the price is going to be right on Inked of your cold to me.

He's a horse that I'd like to fool around with a plot, the

dots. It's nice to see him continuing

to run back and decent form for Lynn cash.

They try to race in New York, last time out.

There was probably a little tough for him, but you know, he

gave it his all. He ran pretty well, I think a mi

a little bit sharp for him, but he'll come for with a run for

maybe a piece. I'm going to try to beat our

nation on Parade, because okay, I was just going to ask that

because he hasn't been good at the distance.

He one of seven furlongs at Churchill Downs at the claiming

at the 50 level, you know, gets claimed in that race frankly by

The Nest folks. And so Seems to do his best work

right around a mile, but not out of my child's.

A little strange that way. John, who do you land on in the

spot? Well, I do agree that that our

nation. I'm afraid is worth beating

specially because he's burning up a lot of money in his last

two starts, two sides back in a small Stakes who's 325 you lost

and probably should have one in the bottom and food.

So he was even money loss. That occurs to interview record.

I thought we had much better than him that day and it was

also into Cause first start of a two-month layoff could move

forward with a more recent release under his belt.

One long shot but kind of like in here is is number for 110 for

Jose krauts, Dennis. Oh in the saddle at the law for

Mead. He won two races, one clan and I

won't allow insurers back-to-back both with big

sweeping closing moves on the toad.

Going this distance one both by a lot of my 14, length of

accused a feud with both times. We had a solid second one, Kept

up to six company in the bender on the day after Thanksgiving.

First stretch back at around two Toads.

Last time, don't think he's as good going to turns in the first

place. Yeah, cock why?

It was voice attract was in his best race now.

He's cutting back to his his before distance, and I think

that bad laughs line might spook some better news and drive up as

tries, but I'm not going to hold that against him.

Very good. Alright.

So we'll move on to the Geisha which is the filling mirror

version of this race 75k. Those Maryland, Breads and sired

for and up and going that Mi again, a couple of sub 2, to 1

horses here. Dan at least Malibu Beauty in

the one hole and then Intrepid Trio student, excuse me.

I literally had to look at two cards today.

So, well, some of it in numbers right now is Malibu Beauty.

The one to beat here, coming out of that.

Very nice show in the carousel. Do we look at it separate record

dream here. Coming out of, you know that

race in November in the in the optional claimer just Really

good numbers for a driver dream, whenever she runs she wins.

What are we looking at here? Well, Malibu beauty is the horse

to beat, especially if she can control the pace.

It's Been A Tale of Two case scenarios in her last, two races

to starts back as the favorite. When she was beaten, she got

hooked up in a duel. She fought with her Rider and

she paid the price. Last time actually was his

looses, could be walk the dog on the lead and Sprint it on home.

I think she'll make the lead again but her uncoupled.

Stablemate Intrepid dream is where I'm going to go in here.

You mentioned she hasn't run very But when she does, she puts

up some big effort. She missed about a year or a

little bit more than a year. Gary capuano told me to lay off

was going to be a lot less, but you got Lucic Delaware in the

back, stretch, over the summer and cut herself up pretty bad.

Now, she was going to run against Malibu Beauty last time

out. She scratched capuano said she

was a little bit off her feed. He says she's doing a lot better

coming into this race. She is one of the biggest horses

on the circuit, she's going to weigh in at about thirteen

hundred pounds on Saturday actually.

Biker, it slightly longer distances but the long stretch

of the one turned miles should work for her and Visually she's

been very impressive since she's come back.

How about you John anybody? Maybe a longer purse that you

like in here? Well, I do agree.

Get Kat bars really got this race car but he has the two

favorites hand and you should be the favorites.

What long shot? This case a summer-long signs.

You never ate sweet fries on Tim Hill.

First York Hermanos, stripping down from New York, whose basic

Aqueduct ran, what I thought or felt like, I should say, when a,

pretty impressive very wise, I'm out in a post level.

Allowance off the PACE program, the outside, post cough, and

extremely wide in in a stretch kept on grinding and Gob to win

by a sequence of length with a crew best business beautiful in

in the second string queries where she matched or caspo crew,

best figure don't know if it should be able of beating Malibu

beauty or Intrepid dream if either one of those.

Runs the race but if either of those swept up, I think she's on

the Improvement. Could surprise.

Yeah, we should've had that experience over the one.

Turn mile to it. I haven't tried and so there's a

there's something that I'm if there's some moisture in the

track maybe she's she's got that experience as well.

Cold water is super nice price there.

I agree with you. All right, now we're getting

into the meat of that middle part, by the way, I should have

mentioned that a race. Five starts the middle pick

five. There's definitely pick five at

Laurel Lake the plate. 35. Scuse me.

So that's what we're talking about.

Get on those late. Pick 5 is a good opportunity.

There may be to go a little bit shorter if you do.

Think the top 10 horses. The ones to beat their use those

to and move on with the fireplug is 36 is 6 and a half for loans.

By the way, every race in this sequence is one term.

So I get used to that that log. Stretch it at a laurel.

You'll think the race is about to end, but it's like Kentucky

Downs. Not quite a hundred thousand

dollars here for that half or excuse me, four year, olds and

up. And this is the fireplug, listen

Stakes here, a little black type Dan six-and-a-half, furlongs,

one of my favorite races of Laurel feels like it's always a

really Fair Race because even if you Up a little bit, you still

got that long stretch to make it up, Factor it in in here at 1:55

huge speed. Figure last time, is that

repeatable for this horse? I'm not sure if it's repeatable

but you can actually regress off that number a little bit and

still win. Sure, this is a very competitive

group and there's a lot of speed, although Jerry Rob told

me that he's going to scratch, the seven AO loves Josie, which

might lead the way for this. Eight pirate, Rick, a horse is

taking a big step up in class to show speed.

I believe he's won three in a row and wired the field in all

of those races, but Factor What can you say ever since this

horse returned off the layoff, you had an extremely productive

2022 campaign to Stakes wins at Laurel to graded, stakes

placings in New York, his last race.

A bit of an anomaly from a running style standpoint in that

this is a horse that likes to stalk or come from off the pace

and the next thing, you know, he broke on top made the lead and

kept right on going. It was an easy trip for him but

he's so consistent. I think you have to use him.

I think Baron was been one of the Region's best sprinters for

several years. Is now while he was beaten by

factored in last time out. I think he had a more difficult

trip. He's always that likes to be

close to the PACE. He didn't break very well,

rushed up inside. Got a bit of a shuffle and then

was forced to come down inside again and finish second.

I think he'll be a lot closer to the PACE this time around card

to separate those two, but those two are where I landed.

Yeah. So read and Pennington to

outside of Laurel, hit a 25%, their accommodation, that

happens a lot and Papa Lopez actually rode the horse last

time. At Laurel on that on that Stakes

day. You know, John I'm looking

around. I'm trying to find a longer shot

here but man, those two look really good.

You look really good. But but if you go beyond to

them, there's a lot of Hard Knocks, and local sprinters.

A lot of them have run, great, recent races, 33 moment

prosecutor I thought before but then gave me that good info on

album slowly Maryland bread. That's why I'm on the show.

One of those Maryland. Breads is is number 3.

Always in a hurry who is in a bit of a neat, you into story

because his trainer, Phil capuano, the son of God.

Gary nephew of Dale who just retired on New Year's Eve gave

this table over to Phil. And now Phil is looking for his

first career Stakes, win always in a hurry, he's won three hours

last for Safta trip one. The Bender two stones back then,

be a pretty tough. Open allowance deal.

Last time out this by checking on the tone and being forced

wide if it's fast-paced think he could take full advantage of all

the number one. So avoid a 25 thousand dollar

Claim by Miles through a in August.

His whole Santa thing. He's a stone-cold closer came

from way off the pace to win a tough second level allowance,

back on December 3rd. It is a closed.

Well, in in the day of trying to get through it at 1101, so it

would not surprise me if you once again, where I wait and

spiced up the try or the super, you know, it's interesting.

You brought up, excuse me, you brought up always in a hurry,

that's a horse that's run in in, you know, in open company, Six,

furlongs in 110. That's the kind of number that

if Things Fall Apart the But that could be a winning number.

And so sometimes you do get horses that that jump up like

that and so maybe you're onto something.

There it has this race has this race led to, you know, I mean

this is the 27th running of the the fireplug.

I mean this is is the race they've been they've been

running at least a little bit. Is this had some significant

winter storm, you know, honestly, I Have to go back and

look after a while these moments takes, you know, a bloke, broad

rule. Yes.

Yes. This is a threat for the

general, Joshua. Probably see a lot of poisons

back there, in a few weeks before the first was running

Pimlico until 2004, they did not run it, run it in 2005 and then

it was moved to the January slate at Laurel.

All right, so we'll move on to the next race.

Which is the seventh Race part of that late Pick 3.

And it is what a summer. Maryland has the best name

Maryland. New York like near tie, for the

best names of stakes for the dinner.

They run the dinner party people.

I mean in the Miss Preakness, I mean those are just terrific

things, your steaks, everyone needs just get out of the way.

The water summer in January is a terrific game first night race

for Phillies, a 4 and up. This is six furlongs on the dirt

here, hundred thousand dollars on the line.

Dan will go back to you. I Think maybe, you know, swaying

to and fro what our last two but I think there's a chance that if

we're going to get an upset, it's going to be outside of her

and Feed Us Bree. And I think it might be this

race. Well, feel the question of this

race is what happened to feed his real last time out?

I asked Jerry Rob. He didn't know he was perplexed.

He was flummoxed. He was confused.

He hopes that it was the track bias.

He felt that speed speed speed ruled the day and that fee.

Just for you. Tried to run fourth in a race

where everyone ran 123 around the track was simply

compromised, by the way, the race was run.

Personally, at a short price. I'm going to try to beat Feed to

spree. I know you might be against

swaying to and fro, but this was just seems to improve with each

and every start, and Visually her last race was the best I

ever saw her. She's a building it sometimes

doesn't change leads. She's very quirky.

Grant Whitaker fits her like a glove and she went right to the

front of maybe the track was biased.

She took some heat from, don't let sweet fool.

You, she looked like a winner every step and she Drew away.

Way this Phillies come a long way since she was winning in the

Ellery trials in South Carolina earlier this year or the marrow

out of the maiden 16 level that she broke.

Her broker Maiden for sure. She you know it's interesting

you bring her up didn't do because she just turned four,

right? I mean she's still a young Filly

here, right? I mean this is this is a horse

that can develop into a 56 year old mirror, real real

successful. Do you see her staying in the

Maryland circuit? Or is this one that I might see

you know down the road here at Churchill?

A Kentucky down slowly? No, no.

I think we'll see her here in. I think Mario sir a realizes,

the money is good here and it just improve the roost.

We've seen horses like feed to spree.

We've seen horses like Hello, beautiful, sort of run the table

and make up some nice Bank in these races and swaying to.

And fro looks like she's on her way.

This is a good spot for with her tactical speed bread.

For 1,000 bucks, she's made over three hundred thousand dollars

in her life. John, anyone outside of those

two that you really like not really.

So I know not really But swaying to and fro is a South Carolina

verb and could be possibly the best South Carolina bread in

history. I mean, I don't think anyone.

I've, I'm not sure if the South Carolina votes ever won a great

steaks. I don't think so.

And if she was the first South Carolina over 20 Stakes period

in 18 years, once you want to shine again at Pimlico in it

tempo, as no to claim for 16,000.

Back in May she turn into a great story.

Hopefully keeps moving forward and has been going forward with

every start, you know. And as I moan guy, I am sure for

feed is free for whose sake. I hope that you are busy is onto

something. And at the track was biased in

favor of speed last time because you had and an excellent 2022

season, 156 Rose is placed in five others and and a kind of

Same. See you, and who you are kind of

a downer hopefully 2023 starts on a much better enough of it.

By the way, two years ago in 2021, the one to win.

This race was Hello, beautiful, and club car.

So, there's been some good, some bad, some quality in this race

before. So, maybe we were seeing a

repeat of that with swaying to and fro, South Carolina are not.

All right, eighth race is the spectacular, but this is leading

into obviously into the tessio and then into the Preakness.

Has seven furlongs for the boys. The three-year-olds hundred

grand in this one. Guaranteed.

Okay, someone help me up. Dan II have I have the form in

front of me. Alright, daily The Daily Racing,

not the not the weekly, but the Daily Racing Form.

All right, why is there no Rider on Prince of Jericho?

What am I not understanding? Writer hasn't been named yet.

I talked to Brittany earlier today and Sheldon, I'm assuming

is going to take them out of the.

I haven't seen Sheldon lately and maybe John, I promise, if he

once again, he's injured, we'll see.

I talked to Brittany this morning, seems, like Prince of

Jericho is a goal for this. Spectacular did these things can

change. I think if you runs, he's going

to turn the tables on coffee with Chris, his last race.

Maybe you could say, he had no excuse coffee with Chris was

just speedier than he was that day and this is a worse than

still learning, Prince of Jericho.

He's very late to change leads in some of his races.

Brittany said and something like I hate to criticize Sheldon but

last time out I thought maybe you should have jumped on this

Source coffee, with Chris on the turn a little bit earlier.

I think he thought he had that horse measured all the way.

And obviously, Obviously, he did.

So you think he slept on the couch last night did

for this? For this company of, you know, a

munnings by a, you know, Maduro mayor.

That's about as Royal as we're going to get in this kind of

company for this kind of race. And so if he's lives up to that

breeding, at least he should win this one.

I agree. But coffee with Chris, of

course, has had very, very good recent Forum.

John outside of them? Do we have someone by the way,

the we don't need roads name. It's almost as it's almost as

good as some of the stakes names and he's an interesting story as

well. So is it okay, source.

I wanted to turn race last time out of Delaware.

He went from the same Timonium ring as hell dish.

Did he sold for 100,000 dollars work?

Selvaggio had him entered in the heft last time out.

Now the weather was terrible. I believe that the card had to

be postponed a few days and we don't need roads in his last bit

of training stepped on a nice Claude and sort of hurt his

foot, missed a little bit of time.

He says, he's doing great now. He did say this distance, might

be too short for him. He's We're looking forward to

stretching. We don't need roads out in

distance. Interesting, well, son of

opportunity. I feel very old, okay, choco

pie, yay, son of opportunity who stands annoyed View and is

coming off a drink. First, you have study had a lot

of success with his first crop, including we don't need roads.

Who, as Dan mentioned, salt salt, a big money at the

ammonium cell I was going to bring up.

We don't need roads. He here in a big where he's at,

Delaware. Last time out.

And, and, and I do think he'll Foo more distance.

How does is interesting to me? Because he had a pretty

high-profile debut. You know, he was owned by Justin

Horowitz, clean my brain you are so you've always been pretty

comfortably at wall in July it will Sheldon who also throws who

I had back in about nine or ten months so that got a lot of hype

ever since then he has been sticks placed Three times we

could have won at least one or two of those Services.

Didn't quite have as good a lead punches.

Maybe he should have any lost all those Roses at because now

he's had a bit of time since then he's worked at Belmont Park

for a new traded make maker who are other than trudging around.

Two turns in Windows has, I'm down here.

I wonder if finally he'll be a decent face because he's running

figures. Good enough to win this race.

He has good tactical speed. He's getting a new jockey in one

of Maryland's. Best heavy on calina people, he

could set a, a good trip on the inside and if he moves forward

even a little bit, he could contend and I'm counting on a

lot of money going to a printer Jericho's.

Then copy it was Chris is is going to take action to may be

held a slides. And goes off at high.

Odds will see you in John's really onto something with hell

dish because I think you could make an argument that he is

taking significant class relief in here as well.

Because last time out in the Louis, he did finish ahead of

coffee with Chris and it was very game to be third and look

what he was in against, he was in against recruiter, who's one

of the top 22 year olds in the region?

And what was one of the angles for coffee with Prince's big

upset last time out? Over Prince of Jericho.

He was dropping in class after facing horses, like recruiter

and post. So now held this gets that class

relief and John's, right? This was does have good tactical

speed and could sort talking behind the leaders.

Awesome. Okay great I love it.

Did we look at the last race? And by the way I have I have I

have issues. So we've had we've had our guy

Kevin kirstine from Churchill Downs on before and and we

pleaded with him. Please don't put made in 20s at

the end of the pick five. When you've got a bunch of great

Stations, don't do that. Who John, who do I have to yell

at at the MJC to get this change that?

We who are these people? I dunno.

But I don't want to say it out loud.

It's a good move by you. All right?

I'm just kidding. Actually, make twenties better

than what it could be. Frankly made 20 the close this

one. There's seven horses on here.

Our guys are jumping on the chat on a stream yard.

Appreciate you jumping on. We have, we have fans in Maine.

How about that? Nice.

I didn't know. That's all I meant.

But how about that D Jen's everywhere race night Laura

Parks except for a long as men? Claiming 29k in the upper see

here in for the price of twenty thousand all the way down to 16.

If you take those pounds off of the 124, bunch of horses in here

that I think are interesting, Dan Brittany, Russell with

first-timers very successful, has a couple in here.

Where did you land? Excellent with first time

starters, I'm against them. I want a piece willful desire.

I prefer horses that have run over first time 90% of the time,

storming to me. Go back and watch the sources

last race. Broken really well up?

Close to the PACE. Wrangled back to last entering

the turn. Then commences a wide bid

turning into the stretch and is running on a little bit.

At the end he can get a lot closer to the PACE this time

around. I think they'll be more

aggressive willful desire battled with first-time starter

that came back to win his next, start on the lead in his first

race over the circuit he was claimed by Damon Dylan.

DeVito who is just on fire right now?

Question is going to be up close to the PACE.

I think both of these sources are right in the thick of things

turning for home and one of them gets it done in the anchor leg

of the big five, how big is Damon's Barn.

Medium sized Barn, right? Sean.

Yeah. And it doesn't bigger over the

last few years definitely said I agree with that 2310.

So damn, Sketchbook has had three four.

Who's he ate all of them, have one and prison working fairly

consistently at least since early December?

So I am a little bit different in how they think they'll have

to at least Yuzu in light pick five.

However, I storming has a pretty big speed figure Edge in a first

to star in a the last restart, the should say.

Compared to willful desire, at least on version and scale.

I think she's benefited from cutting back, a distance.

After two trials, going a mile or longer both here, And the

Delaware poke adding Lasix. For the first time gets Angel

Crews back in the saddle, think she's Valley play of this group.

All right, so Water Villa has a horse in this race and if you

have listened to this show at all, one of you are obviously

the trainer of King Guillermo. So everyone needs to drink has

Amalfi lady in here, King Guillermo, of course, outside

of. I mean yeah, there it is

Contender. I mean, look, look at the screen

people. All right, I know what's

interesting. Actually, if you look at the

breeding in this race mucho Macho, Man, frosted midshipman

Parisian fire cross-traffic, Irish war cry and down at the

bottom. Barely read gold lad.

That's actually pretty strong for a 20 by 20 glamour at the

end of and of a card. So this is no, no chump change

there. But boys, I appreciate the time

any, I mean, if you have a favorite for the day, just an

absolute favorite for the day, Dan, I'm going to get, you know,

I'll try to guess. All right.

Favorites are for the day. I think dance is swaying to and

fro I think she wanted to introduce one of the horses to

be again it seems to me like it's a little bit chalky.

Like I think that if cheekiness gets to the lead in that race,

she's going to be too tough. I couldn't make her my best bet

but you're going to be 6 to 5, I don't know.

Make it ain't the beer cold simply because he'll be it's

okay, he'll be sort of a value play and I'm a fan of that horse

as well. And it's the horse-racing happy

hour. How could I not?

And then John I'm gonna go with with hell dish.

I think that's your sort of your your horse.

You're hoping you're going to get, I do what 5161 on that

kind, of course I'm hoping so he's definitely a best bet in in

in that he's not most likely want to, but he's a good horse

to bet to win because so he has a decent shot and he'll be a

good face him. And and I think we'll see our

and, and Savoy the best value plays on this code.

Very good. Alright, well guys, I was

serious. We're doing this.

I mean, we're doing this, I will see you.

I'm excited. I'm excited doing, we're doing

the Preakness. Trail.

I'm in the New York people will not talk to me.

So we're I'm talking to the Maryland people.

There's nothing like drinking a Heineken standing next to a

sniper from the Baltimore City police on the roof of Pimlico.

There's nothing quite like it. And it's so I suggest it to

anyone who can weasel their way into a press pass to Preakness

job. Kiosk where can we find you?

And what are you working on? Well, find me at the off its on

personal account that sits on the screen.

So it's th e y, OE, o FF and make sure I felt like and

because if we were if you had spelled their wrong with one of

the other two versions I wouldn't have you on.

Well, I was kind of afraid of been one of the ladies picked up

and then especially at Maryland. Thoroughbred find us at

Maryland, TV for the news about Merlin bread and for info about

our brand-new host Library. Education center at 12:57, Main

Well, there you go. And I know you do some, some

handicapping work as well. Yes, find my pics, but every law

code on the greasing Biz.com, I cover everything from sickness

day in Maryland million day to these bottom level 20 thousand

dollar. Baiting clay moves.

I am camera. I'm a rock all year long for the

one pays. The same in the derby is it

doesn't to me. Yeah, that's true.

No question about it. And John and I are competitors

on the America's best racing expert picks.

I'm so many quotations right now.

Text and so, I don't like John very much but I do like, Dan a

lot. And so Dan, tell people where

they can find us on Twitter at drf underscored an omen in the

Daily Racing Form, every racing A of the Maryland meets whether

it's Laurel or Pimlico, I'll have my daily analysis there,

Daily Racing Form, YouTube channel, Stakes preview videos

from all across the country and look, if you are a pig 5 player,

almost no better place than the Maryland circuit to play because

of that, 12%, take out. I mean, it's as good as it is in

the entire country and frankly between Laurel and Pimlico, you

can really turn learn the trends and some onions.

Pretty fun too. So all right folks we'll get out

of here. That was Ben.

How's that going? And play the music.

Winter Carnival. I've been we got to work on that

but now they see as soon as they say Open all the doors.
