We head W once again nine race car there at Santa Anita this

weekend the great 3 San Simeon down the hill.

Of course we're there a week too early for that, Barry.

But of course you're now a Santa Anita veteran.

How about that? You have a nice time with the

nice. Place.

How about that? I can't say that I am sad about

that. I I want to be a regular.

That place is lovely. It really is good stuff out

there at Santa Anita last week. We appreciate everybody out

there taking good care of us, from Jasmine and Victor all the

way to Tom, all the folks out there, We really do appreciate

them helping us out with the show, making us feel

extraordinarily welcomed throughout the week, too.

If you could just tell the wind to chill out, Yeah.

Oh. Yeah, I could watch journal.

That would be great because Sean, how sad was our guy?

Sean, though, think about that like the the that photo you got

of him in the grandstand was just the sad puppy dog moment of

sad puppy dog moments. The poor guy.

He really wanted to see journalism out there.

It is what it is. Barry Spears, Louire bro,

hanging out with you. This is a thing called SoCal

Saturdays. We go through the entire card no

matter where they are running in Southern California.

Excuse me. Of course we are dead in the

middle of the Santa Anita meet heading into three weeks from

now, the Santa Anita Derby, 100 point race on the Kentucky Derby

trail. But before then, of course, as I

said, San Simeon, this weekend will be Race 3 down the hill.

Give me all the down the hills folks.

That's what. That's what your boy wants.

Yeah, except for when Barry shows up.

Right? Except for when Barry shows.

Up. Well, I think they knew you were

they were like, oh, Barry's coming, you know, just we're not

going to do that then, OK. Can we?

Yeah. Barry doesn't need to see that.

That's that's for special people, not Barry.

Yeah, man, that's. Well, let's get into the races

here. Race 1, Barry's about to

regulate. It'll make sense that joke in

just a second. Race 1 is a six prolong Sprint

on the turf. 50,000 claim pricing, $35,000 purse in this

optional claimer here Barry. This is on the on the Philly

mare side 4 and up here Barry, where did you land?

Do you get the regulate joke now that you've seen your top picks?

Yes, I I definitely yeah, it was a clear dark night.

But anyway, I I thought this race was interesting because of

the fact that the six not a Sinner does not like to win.

This horse is 18 starts 12 seconds or thirds, right?

I mean, between the two 7 seconds, 5 thirds in in in the

career and just a horse that I would never want to bet as the

favorite. So I, I, I looked elsewhere.

I landed on the two Nicolina. I thought this horse's races to

begin the career were pretty good.

The first one at Santa Anita and the main special weight and then

the restricted 60 to 5 and they ran good in in both of those

races. Then they kind of fell off form

in may off the bench. They win a turf event just like

this or maiden 50 and I think there's some upside here not

much to beat I I don't really think there's there's too many

horses that can compete for the wind spot here.

I think there's going to be a huge battle for 2nd and 3rd, but

8 to one on a horse that you know one first time on the turf

hooks a field that isn't that tough should get a good trip.

I don't see why not. Here two and three about to

regulate for Barry on my end. I will go a slightly that's next

race. I should give you my 1-2 and

five here. Agree with Barry on the top 2

here. I'll go to the five horse in the

third spot here. Barry a little bit of a shot

down field as you like to say. Lady Mary Ann here was very

close last out for Jorge Gutierrez.

Ricky Gonzalez gets the mount again.

It's just one that's just kind of been knocking on the door,

Barry and I do wonder if being within a length length and a

half the last couple of times out hasn't given this horse a

little bit of confidence. This is very clearly what the

horse is best at. Obviously not a lot of wins in

the career because none of the horses went to the career in

this race, but I do think the five in Lady Marianne has a

legitimate shot to be second in this race.

So I'll go ahead and put her third in my handicapping.

I would play some kind of 12125 exactly here Barry, if I were

playing race one on Saturday. Yeah, the one in the the one in

the three to me are are the next logical horses.

I don't think there's going to be too many surprises.

The five did look interesting, but at least from where I'm

sitting, they might be a little bit too far back to win this

race. But you might be correct that

they could get in the Super factor of the try or the

executive for that matter. Yeah, I'd like to see that one

certainly in the exacto by the time we get to Saturday.

SoCal, Saturday's Rolling on Horse Racing Happy Hour, Barry

Spears, Lou Irabo, hanging out with you and our friends there

at amwagerandamwager.com. Race 2 is A10 claimer for

Phillies. Phillies and Maris 4 and up

going a mile here. No real conditions outside of

that, just a weight allowance if you haven't won a race since the

middle of January, which is every single horse in this

field. And so I went 4-3 and one here.

Barry in race to going to the four horse first in Perfect

Life. Aguilar picks up them out here

for Lorenzo Campuzano. Why not?

Who had 42 starters with two wins last year.

How about that? But has already had this one.

He's getting off the claim here and not a great angle for him,

not going to lie. But this is a horse that has

tried the mile twice in a row here and liked it both times at

this level. Tried it the first time, missed

by 3/4 of a length in second place, comes back, does the

exact same thing. I'm just going to trust that the

horse is in this kind of form, wants to do this over two turns

on the dirt thing and that she'll go ahead and run a third

good race here in a row. Frankly, looking at lots of

other courses in this race, Barry, that are just simply not

winners and frankly not close to the lead.

I'll take a horse that's at least one in recent recent races

and go with the four on top. The three horse here is love our

family. This is as much a tons of

experience at the distance, Five wins, 4 seconds at the distance

kind of play than anything else. Also been in the money 8 times

and nine runs at San Anita Park. So maybe a play as far as the

course as well. Then I went to the inside the

one horse here, which is rousing.

Jewel 2:00 to 1:00 in the morning line for Antonio Freizu

and Steve Knapp was in an 8000 allowance last time I think

getting back to try. You know they're going to move

this horse up in distance. Son of rousing sermon.

That's the lucky pulpit line. Distorted humor on the dam side,

so should be able to go the two turns.

Interested to see this one stretch out.

This is a good angle for Steve Knapp. 2 winners in his last 10

times going from 2 sprints to a route, which this horse has done

twice in February. Now getting out to a mile here

in in March. So I'll go with those 3 here.

Barry 4, three and one in race 2.

How about you? Yeah, I, I like to reward

consistency as consistency rewards me.

So I ended up on #3 love our family.

The source is pretty consistent. His last win was in a $16,000

claimer at Santa Anita. Going this distance, you know,

fits well here in, in this sort of scenario.

I think they might have lucked out that day.

They won that $16,000 claim because they were claimed that

day and ends up in the Ron Ellis barn.

You know, the last race they got claimed, again, I'm sorry, from

Steve Knapp. That was the first time from

Gary Studi, but they got claimed last time by Ron Ellis from

Steve Knapp. Seems to be a really astute

claim for a horse that that should get a really good trip.

They might end up seeing dividends very, very quickly.

I I think they are the three love our family on top.

Then I, I'll go to Tear Garden, another horse who's who's been

pretty consistent and consistently a little bit faster

than everybody else or most of these horses.

But you know, you can see this horse is getting a little long

in the tooth and, and they dropped this horse in class got

claimed when they dropped to the $8000 level, came back in an

allowance. But this seems like a pretty

good spot for Tear Garden and Vicente Del Sid to really get a

good showing. Blinkers go on for Steve Miotti,

which is a pretty decent angle for him.

So I I think they'll both show pretty good speed here and be

around it at the finish. Yeah, that race at Los Island

June last year over the mild course there for Tear Garden was

a good one for sure. And so hopefully get back to

that kind of form to be successful this weekend.

The this early sequence here, Barry, you know you have the

three on top here in the second race.

If you were to play a double, I know you love to play your

double S races one and two. Would you go cold?

2/3 here. Yes, indeed, without a doubt,

and and raise up that limit. A little to the hoop for Barry

Spears to open the show here. Moving on to race at Santa Anita

on Saturday. How was your dunk form when you

were playing? Were you were you above the rim

kind of guy or were you just happy it went in when you were

dunking? Like what I've I've never dunked

a basketball, to the surprise of literally not a single person

watching right now. I I had, I had hops for it, but

you know, I was, I was a little light in the ass, as they say,

not very, you know, I couldn't really move people around, so I

had to pick my spots when I went in the lane, but I I would poke

it on them everyone. Now again I got a couple of

things. You were more of a cold battle

than a sovereignty, is what I'm hearing as far as hindquarters.

Yeah, there. There wasn't a jump shot.

I I never turned down or didn't like.

So yeah, I used to fire it off for sure.

You're on. You and us have that in common.

This was like, it's only a triple team, you know, like

this. I'm not passing out of this.

What are we doing here? Race 3 on the guard Saturday is

the Grade 3 San Simeon. Down the hill we go at San Anita

Park, $100,000 on the line, 4 and up In this one, we see the

return of Sumter in here. Karen Pass, an interesting horse

and Argentine bred who's been doing all of his running

recently on turf and on synthetic genius.

Jimmy in here as well. Grotto Oriente, the Chilean bred

who moved to the turf upon arriving in the United States,

is in here as well. Seal Team Sorrento Sky, a loaded

field here. Barry, where'd you land in the

San Simeon? Yeah, this is a really fun race.

It was, you know, I I think every one of these horses stands

a good chance to win if given the right trip and

circumstances. But I went and thrown one

downfield here. I don't even know how to say

this name. Cory Pass.

Is that right? Yeah, that's where I went.

I mean, this source has a lot of speed cutting back from the mile

and I just want them to step on the gas and they have the right

guy in SME Jaramillo aboard for Jose D'Angelo who does really

good with sprinting types, especially on the grass.

I think all systems are go. If we get 8 to 1, that'd be

excellent and we might get that cold pick.

Three, it's fun to see Jose D'Angelo shipping for this, is

it not? Absolutely.

I mean, this is a very good trainer, you know, and, and

everybody needs to see, you know, how he works and, and his

horses because they they're always looking good and they

always run fat, so. We watched them back-to-back

Breeders' Cup wins. She's so spicy and been tornado

at Del Mar just this last fall. I think she's so spicy.

Have you ever fallen in love with a horse in the paddock like

that? I've never seen you like that.

It was. That, that was the first.

I mean, she just looked the picture.

I mean, there was no doubt in my mind when I score her in the

paddock at Delmar that she was winning that race and she sure

put on her show. It's interesting too with him in

the case of Karen Pass here, why did Kentucky Downs go in the

seven furlongs, Barry? And that to me, we have not, we

don't have a ton of sample size, right.

I've asked John Lindo about this before.

We have a ton of sample size about, hey, can you run it in

Franklin at Kentucky Downs and then run it down the hill at San

Anita? We have so many more races down

the hill at San Anita than we do days of racing even at Kentucky

Downs, right? And so it just it feels like we

have so much more and, and frankly what get 2 mile races at

Kentucky Downs. Obviously those don't play like

the hill does at San Anita Park either.

But heck, this horse did go down the, you know, up and down at

Kentucky Downs. If that's a thing, then I think

it makes sense here as well. Yeah, it's a thing.

Or at least we'll make it a thing, at least for.

Today, we don't find out. Yeah, Barry goes A-25 and four

in this one. I have the five on top.

Barry in here and I, I'm taking an interesting angle here, but I

think it's one that we've seen play out so far this early part

of the season at Santa Anita Park.

It's those horses going back, you know, from route to Sprint,

essentially using this after a mile race and getting back into

it. And a horse that's in here is

Seal Team. Hector Barrios gets the mount

down the hill for Richard Mandela.

This one was last seen in the Shoemaker Mile last May.

I think this one makes sense as far as a comeback race.

I also think it makes sense as far as just trying to go down

the hill here. So a horse that's been in the

money 7 times out of ten runs on the turf.

All of those races where the career runs for this horse as

well, just only only ten runs as a six year old horse here.

But notice the works, Barry. These are spurt races.

These are spurts where they're trying to get the horse back

into his rhythm, back into that quick speed out of the gate down

the hill at San Anita. I love seeing that there's a

horse that you're used to seeing in a San Gabriel run really well

in a Sea Biscuit, the handicap in a mile and a Nath.

Those kinds of races where you see them at longer distances I

think will play well here. So I'll take the five on top and

go to Genius Jimmy next. For many of the same reasons I

just laid out. I get Juan Hernandez in here as

well, was really good and an optional claimer a couple back

at the mile. I think we'll go down the hill

just fine and I like Sumter in here a lot.

Frankly, only a six horse field barrier.

Usually we don't love that rail draw, but that's usually in a

10/11/12 kind of horse field. Only have to deal with six here

I think is a little bit less to do.

This is one that was really good in Hernandez in December, the

day after Malibu day and I think has a real shot here as well.

So give me the odd numbered horses in here, 5, three and

one. You like the four Horse in your

trifecta here in Grand Oriente? What do you like about him?

Ran three good races. I mean the the mile race not so

much, but I can give it an excuse there.

This horse was three wide pretty much the whole way around.

But those other two races, the other one at Delmar on November

1st and then the January 23rd race at Santa Anita were pretty

good and that one was down the hill.

They won. I don't see why that improvement

won't continue. One thing about Seal Team is

this horse is stakes tries after, you know, graded stakes

tries really very good. I mean lost to me Hermano Ramon

Johannes and El Potente and King of Gosford.

I mean, those might be the best turf forces on the grounds.

So I I just the the only question mark with that horse is

the distance. I I tend to think that they want

longer, but it's not like this horse doesn't have the ability

to win at this distance. They just have to work out kind

of a trip. I I think they're going to be

right on it at the finish. Yeah, I trust Hector Barrios.

First time getting them out here with that one as well.

I, I think that's, that's a move because he needs to get out of

the gate a little bit quicker, needs to be nearer to the front.

I think Hector, Hector's probably the guy.

I, I really do. And so I do think that makes a

lot of sense for seal team here. I'm, I just thought, you know, I

saw six horses and I thought, oh man, Barry, ah, here we go.

And then I thought, Oh no, this is fun.

This is a good one on top here I think is legit.

And, and so if we're going to get 8 to one in that kind of

field, I will take it every single time here on Socal

Saturdays. My name's Louis Ribow, he's

Moving on to race 4. It is another 10 claimer for non

3 lifers. This is on the male side of

things here, Barry. Race 4 means I go first here,

and so I landed 63 and four in this one.

Interested in the six horse is A7 to 2IN last call Paul, and

not just because that's my middle name, but rather this is

one that one last time out and Barry look at that for him, that

was the first time trying two turns.

It was the first time trying a mile and the horse went home.

Oh, I hate this because this isn't a sprinter, Barry.

This isn't a necessarily fast horse either. 139 and change

ain't going to get anybody excited about the mile, but in

this company it's good enough. And in this company, a horse

that's willing to win is exceedingly rare.

And so I'll go ahead and use this horse on top in my

handicapping. As I said, I'm going to go 6,

three and four here. I want to make sure I'm looking

at yours as well so that I don't step all over it.

I'm not going to. I'll talk about the three here

and then I'll shut up. But in man, my computer's being

a pain. There we go.

Mighty Kai. The joke here, of course, is

that my friend Brian has a son named Kai, who we call Mighty

Kai. And so it's very funny that he

ended up in California as a 5 year old gelding.

My friend's son is an 8 year old.

I don't know what he is, but he's a third place finisher in

the aforementioned race behind Malibu Rocks, who's also in this

field, but has tried the distance 8 times, been in the

money six of those times. And so if I'm going to use the

horse that's one and try it at the distance, I'll use the horse

that's been there quite a few times at the distance 63 and

four from me here. Barry, I know you went a

slightly different direction with the 24 and 3 here.

Yeah, I I kind of had the idea that you did is, is horses that

are going to be for the place might be better in the spot.

I just figured that last call Paul kind of got lucky there and

ended up on the lead. I don't really think they want

it. And the only other horse that I

thought that could get the lead that would go for it would be

the two. And I think he's slightly

quicker. His last race was a $8000

claimer, but if you look at his past performances, his race is

in the $20,000 non winners of three, which is double this

claiming price. Look a lot better than a lot of

everybody else's races. So I think they can work out a

trip. They don't need to be on the

lead. They can be.

I think Friso is going to get aggressive on the three, but I

think Pereira should just step on the gas and go right to the

lead with this horse and see what they can do.

I think that might serve them because if they get in front of

last call Paul, they might be very, very tough.

So I'm I'm going to bet on that. At the seven to two price, it

seems logical. Yeah, dark Marcus in here has

run 12 times at the distance, been in the money for seven of

those nine runs in Santa Anita in the money for six of those.

Very similar percentage on those two ends, so should be a good

one. I'm leaving the dark part of the

Marcus jokes out of this. You understand me?

Jabari Pierce? What?

Wait, what? Race 5 back on the turf here.

Spreading. Twin twin brother Marcus all

right, so optional claimer here on the turf.

It is a state bread race here $70,000 on the line is a 20,000

dollar $20,000 claim price. If your horse is in a for that

race 5 is an odd number race means we go to odd fellow Barry

Spears first Barry, you landed on three horse and here in Frank

bullet. That's pretty solid, man.

Now you got to hear me out on this one.

This horse has a run. There we go.

OK, go ahead. Yes, you got to hear me out of.

This minus, yeah. What?

What if I don't hear you on this?

I I only say that because the barn is not hot.

At the moment. Got it, got it, you know.

They're they're struggling a little bit.

They don't have many horses, but I think they picked a nice spot

for this horse coming off a down the hill race, which to me

doesn't really matter. I think they're, they're flat

races were better, but they ran pretty good down the hill at a

better, you know, kind of class level.

I know it's allowing 72,000, but you still get a lot of these

$20,000, you know, optional claimer types in those races.

But they ran good there and, and I think they were a little bit

too far off the pace. I think a lot of that had to do

with their trip didn't get the best of trips there.

And I, and it looks like there's a lot of speed in here,

especially from the outside where I think Frank Bullock can

get a really good trip or kind of fall into one And they they

finished strong. So second time Lasix is another

one that that I like as an angle and I hope this horse comes

running because I think we're going to get a little bit more

than that 6 to 1. Yeah, I, I like, uh.

Oh. That's why I have Barry on the

show. That that that that that that

whatever that was that. That's why Barry's on the show.

Well done. I'm going to talk next because

your second pick is my top pick. That's the two horse right next

to the three horse in Bro Bro, which is what we thought about

calling this show but decided against it.

Doug O'Neill sent this one in the same race as Frank Bullet

last out down the hill, but before that was running on flat

ground was very good and optional claim right here at

Santa Anita in the middle of January.

I'm hoping for a return to that kind of form.

Antonio Frazu picks up them out for that one.

I consider that a big plus as well.

I'll go Barry to the six horse next.

You and I both have this one, Maury Wills in our handicapping.

This is one that broke its maiden, the last out.

Everyone knows that I love a maiden breaker coming back.

Phil d'amato also wins back-to-back at 14% with these

kinds of horses as well. This just feels like something

Phil d'amato does. That's what 6 horse feels like

in here is this is just the kind of spot where he wins all the

time. And then I'm going to go outside

of the 11 horse and grazed our guy.

MSL Harabio rides here for Peter Miller, who's taking the

blinkers off and this is easily Peter Miller's best angle for

whatever reason is taking the blinkers off.

This one was really close last time Barry to poking through had

the lead at the very end. It got caught at the six for a

long marker, but that was the first time spreading on turf

since November. Hoping we get back to good form

again, but man, this horse has a penchant for getting caught at

the at the line. So going to have to be a little

bit faster here if he does want to win.

So give me those three in this one.

The two. Seeds note here 11th on Chrome.

Flash that horse I don't think should be 30 to one on the

morning line. This horse was running pretty

good last. Year for the one.

Horse area, yeah. And they ran out of sorts in in

mile races back in August and then laid the horse off.

I don't see why that horse couldn't come off the bench here

in a race like this and run. Well, 31 seems to be a stretch.

I I would keep an eye on the board on that one.

That's a trainer 30 to one, right?

That's a kind of barn 30 to one, right?

I mean, almost certainly, yeah. It's got to be something like

that. I mean, you know, there's not a

lot of wins amongst the trainers in this race, too many.

I mean, obviously Phil D'amato wins a lot of races, Steve Knapp

wins a lot of races, De Lasi wins some, but the rest of them

is kind of, they kind of fight for it.

But yeah, 30 to one seems a little bit long for a horse like

that. What do you like about the sixth

horse in here? And more?

Oh, Mori Wills, we already did that one, bro, bro, we already

did. All right, so the one horse is

the one for Barry to watch there at the bottom of the screen.

So heads up on that one. I I see it.

Go ahead and talk us through it, though.

The the like, the January 20, the January 2025 race, that kind

of stuff. Yeah, so the January 1st race,

January 4th for Chrome Flash was pretty good.

I mean all these horses, this horses races, they're right

there. I mean the only one at 6 1/2,

which was down the hill. The last one at that allowance

company Estate bred Allowance was the only race they didn't

run that great. And still they were only 5 and

1/4 lengths off the lead and they went to the bench.

Obviously something went amiss because the horse didn't come

back. Well, they also drew poorly in

both of those mile races, which actually kind of adds to the

appeal here. And we're beaten by horses that

would typically win a race like this.

I don't see why this horse wouldn't show up in the in the

picture if not when. But again, I I would look to the

board and look how this horse looks in the paddock before

really committing to anything. But 30 to one seems like a

really really long price. Race 6 upcoming here on our

analysis Socal Saturday is on the Horse Racing Happy Hour

here, 6 furlongs on the dirt does start a pick three and the

late pick 4 here, Barry. And these are races that I have

a very difficult time with in California is at this kind of

claiming level because I I feel like when you get down to the

5810, you know what you're in. And then when you get up to like

the 50, you know that it's really like a maiden special

weight light. But these 20s, man, you get

droppers, you get horses moving up, you get debuters.

It is really a cool spot as far as betters, especially trying to

figure the the puzzle out here. But I went 1-4 and five here.

Barry in race 6, I'll take the real horse in Treximo who's a

second time starter. I thought the most logical here

as well. Barry did all the work early

before fading on debut. I got no problem with the horse

that try something on debut and is frankly part of the equation

only gives up one spot. It's not like this horse

finished fifth or sixth or something like that.

Finished second in a good sized field of 10.

And where did that horse break from all the way on the outside?

Broke first, though. I wonder if we can't do that

again on the rail, have to do a little bit less work from the

outside and be right there at the end.

I think Treximo is one of my favorite plays of the day,

Barry, I'll put it that way. OK, one, four.

Yeah, 1, four and five for me. Swingern.

What do you think this horse's name is?

I. Don't know and.

Why does it look like why does it look like a slur like what do

we do in here? I don't even know what to do

with it. This is a son of good magic.

He's run a lot. Barry.

I'm going on 7 third place finishes in 10 races and hoping

that one of those turns into a win essentially.

But This is why I feel very strongly about the one is

because this is my second pick essentially right is that this

horse just doesn't want to win. SO14 and five for me.

And then I went to Charms Away, which is how Danny Brewer would

spell Charms away if Charms Away was part of his life.

Escobedo Award has been award. We you get it.

We we went to Vicente. They'll say it instead offered

this one. Maybe a jockey change is enough

to get this one over the top, but has been in the money. 7 *

14 runs. Frankly, the horses made 62 G's,

but fourteen runs, no breaks. I don't love it, but I will go

1/4 and five here. I feel as strongly about the one

in this race barriers. I do any race on the card.

I feel you two things about this race and they're both movie

references. So this race in general, yes,

feels like you know, Toy Story. The first one, I do all the toys

in Sid's room. These are all the toys in Sid's

room, like the, the baby with the with the.

Yeah, they're, they're just all beat up a little, you know, And

once they get out of Sid's room, everything is OK.

But right now, they're still in Sid's room.

That's what this race is. This is the Sid's room group.

Man, absolutely totally agree. I I like this horse a lot.

If if they break on top, I I think it's it's lights out.

I agree there. There's not much in here.

And you know, the as the, the winds pile.

I I mean the, the starts pile up.

These horses might get worse and worse, single kind of, you know,

showed some speed last time and nobody else really does.

So I want that horse on top going really, really fast.

You have the three in your top two Kid dynasty here.

Just class relief. Is that essentially what we're

looking at here? That's it, you know kind of the

best of the rest. This horse really doesn't do too

much, but been running with better horses and may just pick

up the pieces. Soy gern I I just don't know

what to do with on the They finally get to this level, but

I'm not sure they're good enough for anything but a third place

finish. Move on to Race 7, the start of

the late pick three on Saturday at Santa Anita Park, $3 minimum.

15% take out one of the better bets in all the country.

It is the second leg of the turf pick three, which is also 15%.

Take out any $3 minimum. Doing the thing they do the best

at Santa Anita Park. One mile on the turf, $80,000

claim price, $71,000 purse. If your horse is in for the tag

here and Berry, if you're going to have an optional claimer on

the turf out West, this field is it.

This is a bunch of most stakes horses and I mean like really,

really fun set of them here. I think you could probably go

four or five directions and I would not fight you on it.

It's that kind of fun, that kind of fun leg of pick 3, whichever

1 you happen to be playing, Where'd you land on this one?

Yeah, this was a really fun race to to kind of go through, but I

ended up on the four. Iron Man Cal.

This horse hasn't run a bad race yet.

Honestly, even that race they ran at Churchill, they were a

bit up against it. They were the 9 out of 14

horses. They were bet kind of a little

bit that day. Despite the post Zulu Kingdom

won that race. Test score came back to win in

the Pegasus turf. That wasn't an easy effort,

especially shipping across the country going back.

Ran really well in the Oceanside.

Should have probably won that race for it.

Not a a stumble in the beginning.

Laid the horse off Since then I I think they're going to come

back running Iron Man cow. If we get 5 to one that'd be a

miracle, but I'm all about it. First time Lasix as well.

How about that? Interesting, interesting angle

as well. First time Lasix is a very good

angle for Phil D'amato. I think all the things add up

for for Iron Man Cal as well, who I have second in my

handicapping you and I just simply Barry flipped the top 2

spots in hours. I went with the three on top

here in Tempest Volod, who's a horse that frankly, I picked in

the mat this mile, which is a great 2.

And so if I'm going to do that, I can't Lasix back and all the

good things. I'll go ahead and and by the way

you talk about 5:00 to 1:00. I'll take 6 to 1 all day on this

horse. Yes, off the layoff here for

Leonard Powell. I'm not too terribly worried

about that. Works have been good enough.

They got some speed into the horse 2 back and it'll work out.

I I think this one will be ready to go Barry and I think they're

going to they're going to try to get the lead.

They're going to try to run this thing in 135 and hope it's good

enough, that is. Essentially what they're going

to try to do, that's where I kind of I, I don't think they

want the lead here. I think this works runs better

with a target. I know they they broke the

maiden at a mile at Delmar on the lead.

And even the last time, I think they just inherited that lead

because they wanted the trip that hiding in Honduras got.

But they were, they were just too quick early.

I don't think that's going to be a problem in this race.

I think they're going to have a target, a lot of horses on the

outside. Like.

There's going to be horses to go and I, I think they're going to

sit and they might have the best trip of a mall because of the

fact that they're closest to the rail.

You know, I, I think they're a little bit quicker than Nameron.

So I, I think they're really gonna get a good trip.

And I wouldn't, you know, honestly, between the two, the

three and the four, I'm gonna take who's ever higher.

OK, All right. You have 4310 here, Barry

Central De Lontero will break from the outside.

That's the reason I left this horse out of my handicapping was

the 10 hole. I assume you think that there's

enough speed here he can overcome.

Yeah. Yes, I don't I don't think this

horse can win that. The 10, the 10 hole is tough.

They really have to be blazing up front for this horse to get a

good spot and then come running. And it's possible Hector Barrios

does it all the time, but I'm siding against only because of

the the post position. Yeah, I went 3-4 and seven.

The aforementioned Captain Chuchi's.

I'll try Captain Chuchi's here, not Chica's.

I like saying Captain Chuchi's, but George Papa Pedromo could

not miss when we were there. This horse has won five races in

a row. I would feel like an idiot to

leave this one out of my handicapping.

And by the way, that started with a dirt mile and then they

move this horse to four straight turf miles.

So the horse is now 4 for four at the distance the last four

races and gets a little bit of weight drop from earlier in his

career as well. Six year old son Gelden, son of

Classic Empire, in this old Captain Chuchi's.

Anybody ever called you Chuchi? Yeah, there was a kid in my high

school. Yeah.

No, honestly, he was. He was actually on the wrestling

team. He was on the wrestling team.

And I used to. I used to make.

Wrestlers are weird people, yes. Yeah, he used to be in there

when I was shooting jump shots. He was running up and down

stairs and doing everything to make weight.

And one day I threw the ball at him for no reason.

And that's and that name came out.

Long story. I don't know, I'm glad it was

that name and not something else.

Race 8 will start the. Late game he he he gave all the

names and then some. I'm not saying you didn't have

it coming. All right, so Race 8 starts a

late double $5 minimum on this thing and optional claimers, 6

1/2 on the dirt. It's on the Philly and mayor

side of things, 4 and up, $50,000 claim price and $70,000.

Barry, if you would like to purchase one of these and you

and I have the same top three different order, I will go 61

and five in this race. Into the hall.

Will break from the outside. This was a horse in the John

Sheriff's barn that was moved to Peter Urton's care.

Hector Barrios has ridden this horse for all but one of his

rides. Broke his maiden last time out

finally on 7th. Asking has been in the money

five times though. Barry, I'll take the horse on

the outside on into the hall. Based on a little bit of time

off, I think he'll be ready to go and fresh for this one.

Inside horse is the one horse in Artisma.

They were really close last time.

A little bit shorter of a race. I'm a little worried actually

about the 6 1/2 Barry. I hope I was now 5 1/2, I'd feel

a lot better about this horse, but was at least willing to do

the work early, pass some horses in a, you know, 22 and change 45

and change kind of race. I think we're going to get a lot

of the same of that here, probably frankly 44 and four

kind of number for that 2nd, 8th of a mile.

And so interested to see where the one ends up here.

And then I went to the five horses.

Well, but I'll let you talk about the five here because you

have the five on top. Yeah, it's the best last race

buyer pretty much on our Moonlight.

Plus the fact that this horse has been running in this kind of

company, not stepping up from from the maiden ranks.

I think that makes a lot of difference here with these

horses because they're really light on experience.

Other than like the four Ovidis Hobby, who's kind of of a turf

horse, the rest of them really haven't been too, too

competitive. There's enough speed in here for

this horse to get a really good trip from the outside and I

think they will. That's really the only

difference I saw between the five and the six was that

experience in open company and and stakes company.

Closer? Well, this race I thought was

really up for grabs. I mean the horses that have run

don't look that great. Even the three who's probably

going to take some money looks OK, I guess, but nothing I could

really grab into. So I I decided to go with some

first time starters here, namely the 11 on top Furia for Dan

Blacker, who who's pretty good first time out, first time turf.

I like the works on this horse. A steady stream of work since

mid January up into the president.

I I think that's a really good sign that this horse is fitting

already. Let's go ahead and name drop.

here? Oh man, 11 horse a first timer.

The 9 horse here, Melba Montgomery, I feel like you went

to high school with her for sure.

Breaking from the 9. Steve Knapp very good with first

timers. Oh yeah, I I same thing.

Does well with first time stars. A steady stream of works, just

not as far back. It looks like this horse may

have missed some time in January, which is a little

concerning. But maybe it's the weather.

Who knows? Yeah.

Yeah, maybe. I mean it was, it was a gap from

January 7th to February 5th in the workouts.

So that gave me a little bit of positive concern.

But that's really the only thing definitely going to look at this

horse in the paddock, but one of these two horses, but probably

going to get bet down. I don't know which one yet.

Interesting. Yeah, 11/9 and two for Barry

here in the finale Saturday at Santa Anita Park.

I went 8-9 and for Barry a a great shaking will break here

for Ryan Hansen, who we are really hoping is going to have a

big day, aren't we? Tried the turf last time, tried

Lasix last time and I think that package really did work for this

horse and will go ahead and try it again.

Ran out of gas in that one. I'm hoping a little bit of

conditioning here and the horse will be right back at it and so

we'll see how the 8 performs here.

Agree with you on the nine horse as far as first time starters

go. And then I went to the four

horse here and cool, Mariah and Barry, if we went inside the

mind of Louis, that's where this pick is.

But you talk about throwing one downfield.

I'm going. I, I seem to remember this race,

Barry and I went back and watched and I did.

It was actually Valentine's Day of all things, and I remember

watching this race and I for some reason the camera stayed

pretty. You know how it's Santa Anita,

there's there's a real they get real close in on the winner,

right? It like it gets real tight

toward that. And whatever it's their style,

they have it. It's good.

This race for some reason they kind of kept it further back and

and they went to that head on shot a lot quicker.

And I watched a horse kind of veer out into the five path and

pass three horses. You know, and I'm like, who?

Who is that? I went back and watched.

It was cool. Mariah And so this horse isn't

really part of the race early, falls back about 10 lengths in

that race and then goes ahead and makes up a bunch of ground

and passes three horses at the end of that race.

I've seen crazier things in my life, Barry, than a horse that

passes three or four horses on debut that shows up and actually

knows what to do the second time out.

I mean, you give me Crowley, I can give me a Tyler base, who,

by the way, started this meet miserably and has picked off a

bunch of wins since then. I'll go ahead and throw that 1/3

of my handicapping here, Barry, because I don't know that

there's a lot to love in other spots.

So I'll go 8-9 and four here as I throw one down the field.

Oh, OK, yeah, no, I actually took a second look at that.

Horse, you did. The the 20 to 1 doesn't really

make all that much sense. This horse didn't run that

poorly. No, I agree.

Plus. The 12 to one.

Trainer does does very well second time out.

I, I think they're, they're going to get better a little

bit, probably half that. There you go.

All right, well, we will watch for all the carryovers and the

usual hijinks that we get there at Santa Anita Park.

Appreciate them again having us out there last time we were

there, I feel like we didn't get a Berry's boring Play of the Day

today. No, and there was no boring.

Well, kind of maybe, maybe the second.

No, it that it actually speaks to it's you and I played against

the favorites, what, 6 times on this card, something like that.

I mean, at least so it's, and I'm talking eight to five, nine

to five kind of favorites. So yeah, Hey man, never know who
