racing happy hour. Thanks for hanging out with us

on yet another Friday rendition of this thing.

Sat with Bobby Hall yesterday and we did the damn thing.

Talked a little, aqued up to him.

Fox and Santa Anita today with our guy Barry Spears here.

Every single freaking a Friday. Barry, how are you, man?

You doing all right? In there, it's Friday, I'm

excited going to the fountain of youth tomorrow too, so.

At oh boy, there you go Barry and I next week will do this

show from Santa Anita. Santa Anita Park is the spot for

us next week out there for Big Cap Day as well.

And I said this the other day to to someone one of the great

things, and I think it was my my colleague Shawn Collins over at

Blood Horse that it's going to be nice because I've never been

to Santa Anita except for the Breeders Cup, right?

And so I get to go there just for a Santa Anita day.

Yes, it's a big day, but like, you know how that goes.

Like you go to the fountain of youth tomorrow, that's a

Gulfstream Park freaking staple, right?

That day's awesome. The Mac deer meat is a great

race. The honey fox is a great race.

The devoted Dales always fun. Like that's a core day of what

Gulfstream does. Big cap.

There's no more core day than that, man.

I mean, it's just the good stuff.

San Felipe, they're going down the hill, all the good stuff.

Excited to get out there. I know, I know, it's like a 50

for you for for good reason for sure.

Oh yeah, yeah. You know, going to fountain

youth this week, big cap next week.

I I mean honestly as a horse player, couldn't ask for more

than that. No, I think that's exactly

right. And frankly, Barry, you're gonna

have, you have a lot of work to do by the time we get to the

Derby, dude, because you're gonna have to, you're gonna be

one of those guys that saw a bunch of 50 point races, a bunch

of different things as well. I don't know, man.

We move on. We cap the card every Friday

here ahead of Saturdays races. We start like they always should

at Santa Anita Mile on the turf to kick off the card here

$25,000 claim. We hear Barry 4th, 4 and up on

the Philly and Mare side of things here.

Non to life first where you land race 1.

Yeah, race one was kind of a weird sort of race where there

looks to be like there's no speed in this race and the

favorite with Love is is kind of a closer.

So we kind of looked elsewhere and went to the 6th Church Lady

who had a couple of bad trips, Dropped in class, came off the

bench from at layoff from November 29th to January 31st.

Ran a pretty good race at the new level.

Second time at the level usually does well.

I'm going with the 6th church lady. 5 to 1 seems like a good

price. To the hoop, you and I same

horse here on top. I was very surprised that you

also landed on this one. But Kazushi keeps them out here.

I thought she looked really, really good last time and Barry,

if she starts even a little bit better today on Saturday, I

think she's frankly probably a very clear winner in this spot.

Phil d'amato trains. This is not a level that we see

him at a ton Berry, but he does hit at 20% in these kinds of

spots as well. So I laid it on the six on top.

I went a little bit different second spot here.

I'll let you talk about the two horse in a minute, but motet

we'll break from the three here. Antonio Freizu back and riding

really well, frankly winning at 15% since his injury at the meet

itself at excuse me at Santa Anita.

This is one that's getting back to a mile Berry and has not had

a ton of success at a mile, but boy, it's been really close in a

lot of blanket finishes, but those were at much higher levels

than this. We're moving down to the 25

level. The horse was very competitive

at 6 1/2 on the turf last time. Just has to stretch out a little

bit more, gets Antonio Frazu aboard.

The works have been good on the Tepeda, so I'll put the three

horse in here second in my handicap and you at six, five

and two. Go ahead and make the case here

for the five horse in Newport Dreams.

There's a situation where this horse could actually get to the

lead in front of Motet Motet. It seemed to tail off a little

bit in the last couple of races. I'm not really sure where they

would want to be, but if Newport Dreams takes the initiative and

goes to the front, I think they can hang around because there's

not much speed in this race at all.

Newport Dreams Again will break from the five.

Erantes gets the the mount for Tim Yak team.

They have won one of their last six races together.

The two horse in here you and I both have in the third spot with

love will probably be the favorite here.

Barry, I think makes sense if you just want to go on look,

probably fits at this level for Azru's probably going to have

this course a little bit closer to the front, which we've seen

when that horse does that has finished second a couple of

times, third by a leg previously does fit in this company for

sure. Yeah, it does fit.

I was kind of surprised. The eight to five seems awfully

low for a horse like this that has run at this level twice

already and didn't do very much. Kind of quit going longer, then

they went shorter, now they're going back longer.

I, I don't know what really the ideal trip is for this horse.

They like to finish second an awful lot so I I didn't want to

put them on top. We'll move on to Race 2.

Again, this is So Cal Saturday's on the Horse Racing Happy Hour

podcast platform. Looter Bell Barry Spears hanging

out with you. We're here every Friday at this

time. Race 2 a $50,000 maiden claimer,

6 furlongs on the dirt. 50,000 is the highest level of maiden

claimer out in California. Again, 35,000 on the line here,

Barry and this is for Cal breds. And here race 2 means that I go

first. I will take the inside horses

1/3 and two Barry. This is actually a theme for me

today. I think there are multiple times

that I'm going to take the inside horses.

I'll take the second timer in Gilchrist who debuted at this

level at the the 50 level out of the Monty Meyer barn.

How about that third start all this year.

Only had 18 starters last year, but boy doesn't miss old Monty

when he's in there. 4 for 18 last year.

Big number. This horse seems to be ready to

go. Tyler Bayes gets them out here,

but we were lamenting when he was one for 49 to start the

meet. He's now 7 for 81, so obviously

those numbers kicking back up to where they should be.

I thought this horse did a lot of very good things on debut,

just never had a final kick and I'm hoping a second go here for

this San Luis Rey train. E and Gilchrist will be good

enough. The favorite is 3.

I think you're going to land on the three here in Milbo Baggins,

so I'll let you talk about Milbo.

Yeah, nothing exciting here. This horse on the drop ran

pretty good at the level of the $50,000 claiming level and I

don't think that's going to change here.

Probably ran the best race out of everybody and we'll beat this

field pretty easily I think. Hang hungover the two horses,

the other one that I like in this spot, but they haven't run

yet. I like the two 5 furlong works

they had one in January, January 17th, the other February 1st.

You know, we don't really know what we're gonna get from

Hungover, but I think this horse might be pretty fast, so we'll

give that one a shot in front of Gilchrist for 3rd there.

You go 321 for Barry. I went 1-3 and two.

So obviously he and I see the race at least playing out

largely the same. Taking the blinkers off the four

here. Suck coast fallacy.

Barry. I just to me, this is a horse

that's just always been up the track.

Do you like taking the blinkers off here?

They got to do something different because whatever is,

you know, whatever doing isn't working.

Didn't run all that poorly last time against Milbo Baggins, but

I just think this horse needs a little bit more time.

By the way, comment on Twitter from my guy Tony Calo calls the

Moving on to race 3 here on SoCal Saturdays on the Horse

Race 3 is an optional claimer, $32,000 claiming price and a

$37,000 purse. A mile on the turf here Barry.

This is on the Philly and Mare side. 4 and up.

Odd Double race means you go first which landed Race 3.

Yeah, I, this is this was a tough race for me because I, I

don't really like it's a court. I I think this has a little bit

of of hang in them her. I should say as an 8 year old

mare, you know you got to wonder how much of that kick is going

to stay around. That being said, I went to the

two on top Corporal Violet. I I did have this horse out at

Del Mar when we were out there for the Breeders Cup.

Ran a pretty good race in that $50,000 optional claimer, then

got a little bit of post position trouble.

The two races after that, they were stuck on the rail, didn't

get very good trips. They tried to get to the lead

one time, tried to kind of stalk the pace the other, and it just

didn't work out. The February 14th, the

Valentine's Day race, they cut back in distance to six furlongs

and then got a horrible trip from the outside.

Now they get they draw well here in a race they probably should

be able to handle. And I think the price would be

right. We should get most of that 5 to

1. Yeah, no, it should be a really,

really good one there. 2-3 and five for Barry here in race

three. I agree on the three and the

five. I will go ahead and go a

different direction though, and I don't know why my thing is

there. We go 75 and 3 for me in this

race. I'm going to go a little bit

further outside to Cameron Slaw. Armando Ayuso gets them out

again. This one we just saw First off

the bench, last out at this level in for the tag this time

Barry and was under Armando Ayuso that last time at 34 to

one, ran 8 by 3 3/4 lengths. But if you go back, this horse

is very, very good. Second off the layoff or at this

kind of level. I'm going to go ahead and take a

shot with Neil Drysdale here. I think that this is a spot

where the horse makes a lot of sense.

And the last time this one was at Del Mar at the 25 claiming

level landed really well and one under Armando flying at the end.

If this horse has any kind of kick second time up here, I

think we'll be able to run down this field.

So 75 and 3 for me. Sakura flavor in here.

I am fascinated by Barry. I know you have third in your

handicapping one last time at the level at nod to lifers

obviously has to step up a little bit into 32 company here.

But because of that 25 and being in for the tag does not have to

be in for the tag here at the 25 level ran really well under Juan

Hernandez, Antonio Fraser up the mouth.

This horse has only been ridden by Umberto Rispoli and Juan

Hernandez recently. So obviously the connections.

Think a lot of this horse as well, I think fits in here well.

You like the three horse about as much as I do with Issacort.

You have that one second. What do we do with this guy?

With this gal, I should say. It she's tough because a, she,

she hasn't been running really at this class or at this

distance often. And you know, the, the mile

might be a little bit too far for her.

I mean, I know she's won in the past, but it seems like those

are not her best races. And if you add Sakura flavor,

who I think could actually be involved early, hopefully they

are because those the mile and quarter races, they were kind of

upfront. I think they have the ability to

be closer. They just haven't used it.

I think Freso is is aggressive and we'll probably get this

horse into the race and that might affect it's a court late

and that's when we want Corporal Violet to pick up the pieces and

win this thing. There you go, he's Barry Spears.

Unbelievable. This is So Cal Saturday is on

the Horse Racing Happy Hour presented by AM Wager Race 4 out

there on a Saturday. We are back on the dirt for this

one, 5 1/2 furlongs. We are sprinting.

It's an $8000 allowance. 18 five is the purse here.

We see horses like Ofda and others that have made the trip

here. I'm going to go a slightly

different direction here, Barry. I'm going to go 5, four and

seven in this one. I'm going to try Sensational ZZ,

who has largely been running at Los Alamitos, but does have a

very good second place finish in a $10,000 claimer in February at

the track has already run twice in February.

Barry. I, I just this is this is

Francisco Rodriguez. God bless you.

And that's all I want to say here is God bless Francisco

Rodriguez. I need this horse in more races.

Edgar Paeras has been riding, but Kazushi has been aboard

before. And this is a horse that's won

at the 8000 level has been really close to the 10,000

level. So I think this level makes a

ton of sense. I think the four to one price is

actually, I think we'll get all of it, Barry.

I think we'll get every bit of four to one on that horse.

So give me the five horse on top here.

I'll go to auditory next. Edgar gets off of Sensational Z

to ride this one. He's over 4 at the meet, but

this one has been really fast at Santa Anita.

Included in a 6250 allowance last time since it's actually a

little bit of a step up and ran against UFTA in that race and

did not finish as well as UFTA did.

And then finally in this one, I'll go to the seven horse on

the outside in Ryan's Girl. Tiago Pereira is going to ride

for Gennaro Vallejo and this one did win at a mile 2 back at

Santa Anita in the in the trifecta 4 times and eight runs

at San Anita Park. Two wins at the distance.

This one at this kind of level. Barry, give me the horses that

have won before and have done it at the track.

So I'll go with those three on the top.

Where'd you land here in Race 4? I landed on the four auditory

now this horse. If you're looking at like the

PDF past performances for the DRF, this horse is 11 for 12 in

the money in the last 12, and the only one lost or out of the

money finish was in a mile race at Delmar.

Other than that, this horse has been pretty consistent and I

think that that's going to make all the difference here.

Lost to Oofta last time, but Oofta got a better trip, an

easier trip than they're going to get on Saturday.

You know, you got Sensational ZZ, you got the outside horse

Ryan's Girl, you got the two in Tear Garden.

They're all going to be going for the front with UFTA.

And I think that just gifts a trip to Auditory to, you know,

it's this horse's race to win or lose.

And honestly, I think the public's going to bet it that

way. I think you're going to flip

flop those favorites there, where Auditory's probably going

to be favored and Ufta's going to be second choice.

You've got Tear Garden second in your handicapping and I, and I'm

glad that that she is because it allows me to bring up that

Vicente del Seed will be riding out West in this is this his

first mount out West? It might be on Saturday.

At least I'm. Sure, he'll have some.

Mounts. Yeah, he'll probably have some

mounts tomorrow. Were you surprised by the news?

Because here's here's the thing man.

It's it's one thing to, you know, chase dreams and go after

stuff, but this is the guy who had 543 miles won 134 races last

year. And so where he was, he was at

least I don't want to say guaranteed checks, but that's a

check every three days for a win, man, that's a lot of wins

for a guy to go move and chase dreams.

But hey, if you want to be great in the sport, you got to go try

the bigger tracks, huh? That's.

Right then, no risk, no reward. I'd like to see it.

I mean, you see, you see a lot of jockeys going out there to

try their hand lately. Florence Giroux Harmio, now

Vicente del Sid, who I think earned his shot here, I mean.

He's a pretty hockey. And I, I like to see him riding

for people like Steve Miyati as well.

I think this horse in this race has definitely has a shot, you

know, kind of spiraled down the class ladder and then perked up

in June. They laid this horse off.

This is probably the time to get this horse if if this horse is

ever going to win, I think it's going to be in this race.

But there's a lot of speed in here.

I, I think they can outlast UFTA and that's why I kind of put

them in there second. A daughter of English Channel?

How about that officer on the damn side?

What about I hate you all? Wow, Good for them.

That's awesome. Good stuff there for sure.

Appreciate, wow, man, Appreciate the analysis there, Barry.

Move on to the close of the early pick five, Race 5 and of

course, the start of the all turf pick, 315% take out, but a

$3 minimum on that. That'll be races 5-7 and nine

out there on Saturday. And of course, the late pick 5

starts here as well. Six furlongs on the turf awaits

us here and it is a maiden special for Calbrets Maidens 3-4

and five years old, Barry. And here, odd number race means

you go first. I thought there were a lot of

reasonable ways to go in this one.

Yeah, definitely a lot of ways to go.

This is a really tough race. So like last week with Miss

Artois I I like a horse quite a bit in here and it's the three

big bill. I know as far as running goes,

this horse has the most starts or second most starts behind

just a graze the 9:00. But the path is a lot different

and I think this horse was actually starting to to kind of

get good when they laid this horse off in October.

They came off the bench in January in a race they probably

had no chance of winning and and and probably didn't want to win

anyway. They were going a mile on the

turf. Then they drop back in or cut

back in distance to the six for a long runs.

A really, really good race just missed.

I think the pace in this race is going to be quite honest because

horses like Otto's Magic doesn't like the finish races off and

there's other speed like Beer Buzz, just the Graze and the 10

horse dancing Wildcat and it kind of puts Big Bill in a

really good spot to get a really good trip.

We should get most of that 5 to 1 and and if we do, we're, we're

pushing all the chips in here. Tons of overlap in our

handicapping. I do not have seen by me who

will be coming off of a long layoff and also was gelded in

the fall. The aforementioned MSIL hot on

me. Yolo ride for Mark Glad here.

What do you like about him? Well, you know this horse the

first time out, you know, ran pretty good back in June.

I'm just a little skeptical why this horse hasn't run back

since. That's a little strange, but

given what this line up is, any little bit of improvement should

put this horse in the mix. And I think, you know, Mark

Glatt does pretty well with these kind of layoffs and and

horses, young horses in this fashion.

I mean, I know this is a four year old, but he's only has one

start and I think this there's a lot of upside here.

I went to two horses that you have mentioned there.

You went 341, I went 123. Here's another 1-2.

Three for me. I'm going to try a little

Raymond on the inside and and Barry, here's a.

So a strange thought for me. This is one that's come from off

the pace in his career to this point.

But maybe the rail will actually force them to have to go.

That might actually be good for the source.

Be involved in the race a little bit earlier.

Kazushi Kamura picks up them out here.

Juan Hernandez not aboard. And so I'm I am actually

legitimately interested to see if there isn't a way for this

horse to have to be involved in the race a little bit earlier

and actually be better for him that way.

Otto's magic breaks from the 2. They're actually going to get to

the turf. Phil D'amato try to run him on

the turf when they had all the rainstorms earlier this year,

that one was taken off and he ended up finishing a good second

under Umairo Rizzoli anyway. Then Big Bill, who you

mentioned, I think this is what he wants to do.

Is this this kind of turf Sprint?

And so I think getting back to the distance makes sense.

I'll go 123 here. I think it's a pretty

straightforward race for me, except that I do want to try a

little bit of that price on the inside with little Raymond.

Let's do it. I like little Raymond, you know,

I, I, I think it would serve Kimura well to get this horse in

the mix early, you know, because.

I agree. Yeah, I agree.

And, and just getting behind that horse will do them a lot of

good if they can keep pace. That's really the question mark

here. And which of course, but it it

might be worth a shot in a race where I think the favorites just

aren't that good. Yeah, if, if the two goes right,

if Otto's magic goes a little, Raymond could just sit hip.

I I feel really good about that, frankly.

That's exactly right. So.

Yeah, that's the best trip here. That is the scenario that I am

hoping for for sure. Barry Spiercely, we're about

But yes, this is race 6, which means that I landed on the seven

horse here. Barry.

If I could type these things in properly so that there's a

banner on the screen, there we go. 7 horse in here is Billy Joe

Shaver. Before everybody makes a

Kentucky joke about me, I think this horse has a legitimate

shot. These are two connections that

we do not see terribly often, and these are two connections

that frankly do not win very often, Barry and I think this

horse is very likely going to be much, much longer on the odds

than it is here. Last two roles were on the turf.

I'm going to put my line through that.

We saw this horse, 3 back at Santa Anita, win over six

furlongs. The horses run three times at

Santa Anita, two wins and a second.

All of those were sprinting, two of those on the dirt.

The one loss was on the turf. We get back to dirt with this

horse, son of Grayson. I think the number's going to go

up. We throw the blinkers on.

We get back into that scenario where it's this horse is near

the front under Orduna Rojas, who I don't think knows another

way to ride except go. And so I'll take this horse

because I think he's going to be 8 to 1 Barry, because, for

example, the horse next to it was ridden by Flora Giroux and

that horse ain't going off at six to one.

And so I think I'm going to get 8 to one, nine to one on this

horse, and I'm all in on Billy Joe Shaver at that number.

I I don't think so, you know, as far as the number.

Oh no, Oh no, it's going to be. You think that's accurate?

You think I'm getting 5 to 1? I think you're getting less than

5 to 1. I mean, if you look at the, if

you, we got to count on, I mean. Those players.

Being yeah, we got to count on horse players being really lazy

not to pick up on Billy Joe Shaver.

I mean, I think a lot of them, you know, if you just get you

just put a line through that top race this horse with T.

Fits to a team for sure. Damn it, getting back to the

getting. Back to the You're right, damn

it. Hey, if we get 5 to one I'm

happy actually. Yeah, I get it.

You got the seven. You don't have the seven on top.

You have you do have a 7 on top. Never mind, we both have Billy

Shaver on top. God, I was just looking at your

wrong line here. You went 752, I went 715.

Go ahead and tell the people about y'all come.

Yeah, y'all come that horse, you know, woke up a little bit and

they're on the drop, so I think that might help.

This horse is going to get involved a little bit earlier

than they used to. Thiago Pereira riding solid as

always. He's a little heads up kind of

rider. They just can't get too far

back. That's really the question mark

here for that horse. Should be a a good one there.

In race 6, Barry went 7-5 and two, I went 7-1 and five.

So the one horse here is bet the OM and this is one I'm taking.

This is a real, this is a flyer here, Barry.

I'm not, I won't, I won't lie to the audience here.

This is a horse that's very, very good in mixed company with

quarter horses doing the full all out Sprint thing at Los

Alamitos over the 1000 yards, right?

And so to me, Barry, this is more of a play.

So those are 5 foot long races essentially.

This is a play for me, Barry, that what if this horse just

gets the lead under the bug boys?

No one comes, no one comes running.

It's essentially what that play is here and and I think we'll

get all of the 12 to one. Yeah, you're getting more than

12 to one. OK, good.

OK. More like I think this one,

there's potential in here for the Cal bread that that it makes

a lot of sense. Jorge Farias trades in this case

and frankly, that's a small operation Barry, but he wins a

lot of races does Jorge. And so I would not be stunned if

this one's at least part of the equation at the end.

Neither of us had binging in our handicapping.

What do we make of the oh, no, you did OK, binging.

Go ahead, the two horse. Yeah, go ahead.

Kind of a concession because I I thought that this horse was just

better than the rest of the the others that were left after I

went to the seven and five. Although you know, you can make

a case for Cupid's Crusader. I just think being a wide is not

the place to be. So I went to the 2.

The feature on the day is Race 7.

On the card it is the Grade 2 Buena Vista.

We're going a mile on the turf here.

This is for Phillies and mares that are 4 and up and a fair

number of names in here that if you follow this show you will

remember for sure. Thought Process came out third

out of the Del Mar Oaks. She won the San Clemente last

year at this distance at Del Mar after winning in allowance at

Santa Anita at the distance as well.

We saw her previously in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Philly

Turf at Del Mar in 2024 and before that winning the Surfer

Girl at Santa Anita as well over the mile on the turf Grand Slam

smiles A cowbred and boy is she awesome.

I love that she's in this spot, Barry.

We last saw her in the in the turf Sprint there at Santa Anita

going down the hill, winning by a length and a half under Billy

Ante, Georgie Watchtowers in here.

Another one we saw in the Frankel last out Princess of

Boche, who you've made the case for before.

The winner of the Megahertz last out under Mirko Demuro,

etcetera, etcetera. Vibes will break from the seven

here, Barry. Did this turn into a nice field?

Did it not? Oh, absolutely.

I mean, you can make a pace for any of the six here.

I I just thought thought process was interesting because of the

fact that this horse is is facing older and I'm not really

sure what to make of that one or Grand Slam smile.

I mean, this horse should have the run of the race, but I, I, I

also think thought process is just as fast.

Not saying that they're going to hook up in in some sort of speed

duel, but it's not going to be slow.

And you add in a little Princess of Moshi and you land on vibes.

That's where I I ended up. I think this horse might get a

nice trip. Thankfully, there's not too many

horses in this race and get hung out wide.

They can kind of pick and choose where they they, they can be.

I mean, if you look at this horse's past performances,

they've been up close, they've been behind.

Juan Hernandez does a great job placing horses in order to

score, and I think he'll be able to do that here.

Get a good trip, fast pace to run into ends, a couple of

targets. I think vibes is the goods. 721

for Barry, 421 for me. The aforementioned Princesa

Moche will be my top play here, Barry, and this is based on,

frankly, all of her last four runs.

So we've seen her twice down the hill, twice at a mile.

She's won the two mile races, won an optional claimer at Del

Mar and then won the aforementioned megahertz where

she essentially just sat next to the leader in that one and went

ahead and overtook them at the at the final that I think that

was Will then that led that race for most of it.

And then you mentioned Vibes was the one who was going to come

running late. I wouldn't be surprised if

that's the exact scenario that we get again this weekend, that

those two are the ones that are at the end on top.

But I do think Grand Slam Smile is absolutely a contender in

this one. Barry.

I think she's got a very serious shot.

Like you said, run of the race. I don't know if I would use that

terminology, but boy, she's in great shape right now.

She looked really good going down the hill.

And how many times do we just assume that you, if you could do

1, you can do the other. She's shown that she can do

both, right? And so that's the other part.

And frankly, I mean, she won the Betty Grable goat send furlongs

on the dirt. It's just some of these CalPERS

just do everything, man. If she's one of those it's

awesome thought process. I threw in the third spot here

like you did Barry, just because if that horse, if she runs runs

her race, you know, if she looks like every Phil the Motto 4 year

old, then yeah, she's got a real shot here too.

She's going to be right there. I, I, I think this is going to

be like a blanket finish. This is going to be a good race

to watch too. Yeah, yeah.

No, I think that's exactly right.

I think it's going to be really fast too, by the way.

I hope so this. This feels like one of those

milers at at Santa Anita that you're just like 22 and what

like, you know, just like who? Who now?

What's the speed here? What are we doing?

What's what's why I do it up front.

Oh my God. But no, I think it's going to be

a lot, a lot of fun in there. Moving on to the late double

here on Socal Saturdays with Barry Spears.

I'm Lou Rabo. This is the Horse Racing Capital

Race 8 does start the late pick, the late Daily Double, not the

late pick 2, but the late daily AA $5 late daily double with a

15% take out. One of the better bets in the

country. 6 furlongs on the dirt for $25,000 claimers, $35,000 on

the line here, Barry. 3 year old fillies in here and we got a

good set of eight of them in this spot by personal

handicapping here I went with the six horse on top taking a

swing against the eight to five favorite with little Tinker L

who won last out at 5 1/2 under a $20,000 clamber for Jesus.

Oranga Ramirez keeps them out here and he's been aboard this

horse at Los Al in 1000 yard races where she ran off 2 of

them and then came over to Santa Anita and I, I don't know if you

remember this race, Barry. It was the beginning of the

month, the 1st of February and she got like just took off and

she had a, a panel lead like 6 likes or something.

And everyone was like she went out a little too fast and she

did, I'm not going to lie, she did.

But it was far enough ahead that she just held on and won.

I'm betting on it again. Give me, give it to me again,

little taker L, some of these low Sal horses, Barry, they

don't know anything else. They just go and she's one of

the very best of those. Give me the bad daughter maximum

security. Give me all of the 8:00 to 1:00

because of the connections. I'm hoping for a 10 to 1.

I think she's got a legit, legit shot in here. 6 four and one for

me means Tammy baby in the second spot.

Jeff Bondy trains Tiago Pereira rides.

This is one that broke her maiden last time at the 50 level

to drop her into 25 here. Barry.

Everything makes sense about her being in here.

I think the the spotting is is absolutely perfect and the fact

that they spent $2500 to breed this horse, I think they'd be

just fine winning a maiden 50 and they getting claimed into

25. And then I went to the inside

horse. The one is the eight to five

favorite in Darlin Sugary, who was good last out but lost a

little taker L. This was the horse that was

coming flying late under one Hernandez Kazushi Kamura gets

them out here. But I I'm sorry, I I watched

that last race. I know exactly what happened.

So I'll take a little taker L on top of your period.

Yeah, you, you have a lot more confidence than I do in the low

Sal horses. You get right, I do.

You definitely do and you've scored a couple of times.

I'm not going to, I'm not going to lie.

You definitely scored a couple of times, but I just can't.

You agree? On Tammy Baby at least, and I'm

a one horse as well, so. They Yeah, Tammy baby seems like

the. She's legit.

You know, one of the angles that I I like a lot is when horses

turn or go from 2:00 to 3:00. Yeah, first time off the bench

they've run a race that's equal or better than what they were

doing before the layoff, and that's exactly what Tammy Baby

did. Then they have two bullets in

tow, one on February, February 11th and one on February 19th.

Seals the deal for me. I doubt we'll get 7:00 to 2:00,

but I agree where I land. Yeah, 41 and eight for you.

Let's go ahead and let's talk about the long shot.

Dakota Shadow, 9:00 to 2:00 here.

I'm just kidding about that, but comes out of a maiden 20 and

boy, she she exploded off the page in that one.

Huh? Yeah, You know, I, I think she

was ready to go that second time at Santa Anita on the drop fits

well here, it seems. But they don't know what they're

going to do pace wise. I mean, if they force the issue,

they might get cooked up front. They drop back, they may end up,

you know, getting a less than ideal trip.

So we're going to leave that one underneath for now.

The 8 horse Dakota Shadow is trained by Jeff Mullins.

If you are a trainer stat person, this is your horse on

this kind of layoff. He wins at 26%.

His horses go back-to-back wins at 42%, they win on dirt at 30%

and they win sprints at 28%. Barry, my God.

I mean, all those numbers are there, but it looks good to be

true. I'm with you, dude.

Man, he's unbelievable. He's just had such a great year

last year and coming into this year.

Good for Jeff, man. That's the good stuff for sure.

old here. Barry, $70,000 on the line of

maiden. Special way to close the card.

And these have been bomber races lately at Santa Anita.

Barry, do you see a bomber on top here?

I hope so. Yeah, I do.

You know, I ended up on the 9 bail arena AKA Bailout, but Mike

McCarthy second time out is a lot more effective than first

time out. No doubt.

This horse didn't actually run that poorly.

They just had a super bad trip. Like they were hung out way

wide, kind of closed in a little bit.

And and honestly, Michael McCarthy's horses don't like to

run first time out. If you get a first timer from

him, they're probably pretty decent because he it doesn't

seem like he shoots for it. But he does have another horse

in here that may end up injecting some pace into this

race. The three money reigns.

I know Victor Espinosa really isn't into being the sacrificial

lamb, but he might end up being that just by accident.

I think Bale Arena is is definitely going to get a way

better trip than they got last time.

They paid a pretty penny for the Source 650,000 so the workout

pattern looks pretty good coming into this race.

I think all systems are go with Florent drew up.

To the hoop. To the hoop, French get that,

hopefully get that 8 to 1. I think we're going to get close

to that that. 'D be awesome.

I I can't remember Michael McCarthy being 8 to one with the

second timer that actually didn't show his butt first time

out. But anyways, the six nine to

four for Barry. We largely agree on part of the

handicapping. At least I'll talk about the

nine horse. A first time starter Shahar on

the outside for Jonathan Thomas. I like the gateworks here,

Barry, I trust Kazushi Kimura. I think the outside post is

probably good for breaking for the first time in a race for

this horse as well. I love the price.

I know you largely agree with all those points, and I also

feel like if I let Jonathan Thomas beat me in a turf race at

Santa Anita Park, that's fine, right?

That's fine. That's me, brother.

And so yes, I will go 9 on top here, 94 and 5 for me in this

spot. Narita is a first time North

American starter, so your boys going on to the first time

starters here gets Lasix obviously for the first time.

But boy, she's been tearing up the Tepita workouts there at

Santa Anita parks. And my hope, Barry, is that

that'll translate into some speed in her debut in North

America. And then I went to the five

horses, the one you don't have in your handicapping in Red

Cherry, a third timer, but a second timer on the turf.

I'm hoping that's enough to get her over the top for John

Sadler, who's very, very good at going Sprint to route here and

he's going 2 sprints to a route, which is a very normal sort of

path for him. For him as well.

Another daughter of Rock Your World.

We're seeing more and more of those.

Not an expensive price at this point, but boy, that's the name.

Barry, we're going to hear in those Oaks and Derby preps this

weekend at other tracks as well as Rocky World.

And so obviously the two turns, no problem.

For the daughter of the Santa Anita winner in Rock Your World,

Barry, you went 6-9 and four, you've already made the the case

for the 6th. Did I leave anything out about

Shahar for example? No, I I think you nailed it.

Especially that last workout in February came second.

The the horse is sharp and ready to go for this race.

Getting Lasix also might be a plus.

You know, the only thing is experience.

That's that's really the difference in why I chose the

six over the 9. The six has a run already and

the 9 doesn't. As far as Narita, I thought that

horse was interesting because they were in a 14 horse race,

finished third kind of flying at 61 to 1.

So they were completely dismissed that day comes in, you

know obviously of the ship overseas to here running pretty

good on the synthetic. You know, I wouldn't take 4 to

one on a horse like that, but I can see this horse winning in in

a lot of scenarios. Yeah, Narita, a grandson or a

granddaughter, I should say. Excuse me, I see the stars who

we know from that Irish stock. My goodness.

And so the breeding is all there for sure.

A reminder that Barry and I will be out West to come visit y'all

next week for Big Cap Day Live. I'll be out there doing my radio

show in the press box on Friday, 7:00 AM Pacific Time start for

that. So that means we'll also be out

there for works on Friday and Saturday.
