I know even going to the other one got a bag full of beats son.

Full of beats. I don't think that's what's

happening here. It's So Cal Saturday, the horse

racing happy hour platform. My name is Lou Irbeau.

He's Barry Spears, hanging out with you a week before the

Preakness, which means it's time to talk California.

Why not tomorrow, of course, the Senorita will close the card.

Barry, by the way, I don't know who's in charge of these things

in totality, but the stakes at the very end of the card, I'm a

fan. I like it a lot.

Yeah, it's one of those imaginary down the hill races,

you know, that nobody ever sees. May or may not exist.

I will not lie to you. It's more of a one-on-one kind

of hangout thing. We usually get a couple dozen

Which is terrifying, Yeah, very terrifying.

It may not be something. You want to do.

The problem there is you're probably going to have to go

inside a mind of Spears, and that is nowhere that anybody

wants to be. So I apologize in advance to all

the nice people in Charm City who are going to come hang out

with us. But we wanted to do something in

Baltimore, even though the race isn't there, in anticipation of

future years for sure. And so come hang out with us at

Jimmy's Seafood on Friday night, 7:30.

We'll do some cigars later on. You haven't met her yet, but my

friend from college, I met her, actually, I was a grad student

and she was an undergraduate student, and we became friends.

Her name is Colleen. You'll get to meet Colleen.

She. A horse player?

How about that? Colleen, OK, that's what's up.

That's what's up. It's.

She's adaptable. How about that?

OK, all right, well, let's get after this one.

On Saturday at San Anita Park. We start on the turf as we

always should. 6 furlongs. We're sprinting here, $30,000

claimer, non 3 lifers here. Bury $27,000 in the Kitty.

We've got a nine to five favorite in Gazan who last ran

in June out of the Sadler barn. Gets MSL Haramiyo here off the

layoff. Are you going to trust somebody

in more form, Barry? I'm going to trust somebody in

or who has been running sort of recently.

But yeah, Gazon looks tough a little bit on paper.

Has that one maiden $50,000 win back last March and that other

win in and they were avoided claim that day.

Funny enough was in a condition claim or similar to this one and

they kind of ran away with it. But we haven't seen that horse

since. So that's a little bit

concerning. I know the workouts look pretty

good on paper. So I I don't think that this

horse is is still hurt or whatever ailment was going on

then is probably not around still, but I landed on the five

spearfish. I mean, it does help that part

of my last name is in that horse's name.

Doesn't hurt. But if you go back to last year,

earlier this year, this horse was running pretty good at 6 1/2

on the flat in tougher races than this.

Then they went on March 8th, they they kind of caught a bad

trip, didn't get a good start and was was sort of wide the

whole way. Then they went into a tougher

race that they probably were never going to win, and then one

more in another spot that was almost unwinnable.

They didn't even get a good trip that day.

Now they get back to a level that that really suits them and

I think they might be able to get a good trip and win here. 8

to 1. I doubt we'll get 8 to 1, but 66

to 1 sounds about doable here. Yeah, the run in January on the

9th, Barry is the one I'm looking at.

And I've started to do this more and more on this show in this

handicapping where that a reminder that the 6 1/2, you

have to cross the dirt in both instances, frankly, either down

the hill or in that initial stage of spreading.

And some horses just don't like it, all right?

And some of them just, you know, I don't want to say the rebel

against the 6 1/2, but I think Spearfish absolutely qualifies

for that group. But it's been very, very close

at the 50 allowance level like you mentioned is in for the tag

here at 30. I'm not sure someone will pick

this horse up. So it's probably a pretty safe

spot even though someone tried to pick this horse up and avoid

to claim a couple back, as you pointed out, should be an

interesting 1. You went 5-6 and four.

I landed on the seven here. Barry, Little bit of a different

direction. I'll go outside the valley.

And son, who picks up Juan Hernandez for the first time, I

thought ran really well last time.

We're second off a very long layoff here, boy, Blaine Wright

five times in the money and seven runs so far at Santa Dita

Park. This meeting makes a lot of

sense for me in here in claimers as well.

This is where he dominates and 15% overall in sprints.

But his last, his last 15 runners, three of them have one

off of this kind of layoff. So I think a bit to look at

there and I think Juan Hernandez a big upgrade for me in the spot

as well. I have your five in my third

spot. I agree with you on that.

I went four in the second spot here, Barry with Gazan with the

favorite layoff is a is a question for me that that avoid

a claim for a gazon there. But I I just I'll take I'll take

the horse second off the layoff here in valley inside a head of

gazon. Then I have spearfish a third.

But you went ahead and put the 6th horse second in your

handicapping. That's tribal for Doug O'Neill.

Yeah, there's a situation where this horse could actually kind

of get a little bit loose on the lead because they're the the

pace situation is a little bit murky because I don't believe

belly up really wants to be on the front end, but they just

might end up there. Either way, tribal probably will

sit a really good trip. Frazu is very aggressive and I I

think he might end up trying to get the lead here and that might

be the best move for him. But I, I think this horse is a

little bit faint hearted cutting back from a mile.

Is it? It's a little bit difficult,

especially when you're going to try to go to the engine.

So I I put that horse for a second.

Move on to race 2. Start of the early pick 4 is a

$25,000 claimer on the dirt. 6 furlongs. 3 or 4 year olds which

have number won two races are qualifying, can qualify.

Excuse me for this one, Barry. Again, tag is 25 and the purse

is 27. This was an interesting smaller

field of five here Barry. We do have a six to five

favorite who I have decided I'm going to try to beat with the

one horse here. I thought that would make you

slightly proud, but. Not Oh yeah, no chalks though I.

Wasn't going for like a lot of pride, just a little bit of

pride. So a.

Little bit of pride, a little bit, a little.

Bit the one here, B Grayson 2 to one here from Val Breakerhoff,

who's unbelievable start 3 for 10 this meeting at Santa Anita

and this is where Val is great is in these claiming level kind

of races. This is the spot for these kinds

of runners, 17% off this kind of layoff.

Came back running OK last time. Barry, I think wants to get back

to the spreading distance which we saw this horse do over 6

furlongs at locile winning at the $50,000 maiden level.

Gets to drop into 25 here for the second time.

I think the miles just a little bit too much Gets to get back to

sprinting and I think that makes a ton of sense here.

You are going to try the two horse here, Barry in this one

also trying to beat the chalk. What do you like about Matt

Dillon here? Or, excuse me, Mutt Dillon.

Mutt Dillon. Yeah, this is a pretty clever

name. But beyond the name, I thought

that this horse had a little bit of a pace advantage and they'll

go to the lead. And I think that might make all

the difference here. Really.

Not too many horses that really want the lead besides that one.

I mean, of course Precision could get the lead if they want

it, but I'm not really sure they want that and that could be

their demise. Mudd Dillon has has run a race

back in February that matches up really well in this spot.

Last time they got the, you know, a couple horses in that

race really got compromised early on the turf.

Now getting back to dirt makes a lot more sense.

We're going to go Mudd Dillon 3 to one.

That sounds about right. To the hoop 241 for Barry, 1/4

and two for me. The four horse in here is the

favorite and precision is bred for the grass.

Like we don't have to pretend about that.

Barry. I'm including this one here not

because I'm assuming dirt form, but because I think this is

almost certainly just the best horse in this race and therefore

it's going to land in the second spot if it runs at all.

And the training numbers, frankly on dirt have been

amongst the best in this group as well.

So I do expect this horse to run pretty well.

Yeah, no, I, I, I'm with you that that horse probably will

run OK in this spot. It's just, it's just a really

tough race because you have horses that that again, run on

either surface and, and do kind of well on both.

So it it's, it's really a little, little tough to to, to

decipher because you even have a horse like the Five Desert Cat

that was running good races in stronger company and they drop

into this and and neither one of us has mentioned that horse.

No, it's totally fair breaking from the outside for the Laprita

Papa Pedromo combination there. The reason I left them out is

because they're O and 10 recently together.

That's it. I mean, like literally it's just

whatever they're trying isn't working.

And so I'll go ahead and let them beat me.

But no, you're you're right about that.

That race, especially 2 back at 5 1/2 on the dirt at the end of

March, makes a lot of sense in this in this group as far as

being part of the pace and doing those things.

This horse just doesn't win. Barry I.

Mean I'm I'm with you. Yeah, that one is a little

tough, but to be fair, no one in this group really wins.

That is true. In the same race together.

Moving on to Race 3 on the cards Saturday, we're talking

Saturday's card. We do it every Friday here on

the Horse Racing Happy hour. This is So Cal Saturday's

presented by Amwager. Pick three starts and here $1.00

minimum on those out at Santa Anita Park.

Maiden special $65,000 on the line here.

Open to three-year old of Philly. 6 furlongs on the turf

here. Field of 7 Berry odd numbered

race. You're an odd man, so you get to

go first here. You get to choose and you love a

good first timer. I know in this race I love a

good first timer. And then I found out when I

looked at our sheets, you and I actually love a lot of the same

horses in here. You landed on that first timer.

Her name is Goodies. Yeah, goodies, you know there's.

A lot of there's a lot of jokes here, Barry, there's.

Just so much, so many, but can't can't punctuate that one.

So we'll bypass those jokes. But goodies is seems to be the

goods in this spot, at least I think so is is a they have a

full brother. She has a full brother named

cool collected that won on debut.

This horse has some works, especially the last two that are

really smoking and and I think they'll be in the right spot.

I mean, Phil D'amato does pretty well with these types,

especially first time on the turf.

It's not so much his his first time starters haven't been doing

that well, but he's certainly capable.

This horse getting Lasix for the first time, getting their go to

rider and Hector Barrios. I think all systems go for

goodies. Yeah, I'm on goodies as well,

the two horse hidden here in Race 3.

I love the the work most recently from the gate here,

Barry. And I feel like Phil d'amato's

first starter numbers have ticked up incrementally since we

started doing the show. I think he was at 4 or 3% even

when we started. We're almost double that number

now, which means, you know, to pick up that kind of percentage

in a large field in a large size of of of data that you're going

to have to really push that kind of number up.

You, you went 5-6, I went 65 here.

High society you is one that is. And this is one of those

examples, Barry, 6 furlongs on debut, the horse is fine. 6 1/2.

That dirt thing I think screwed up the stride just enough to

wear this one out to get a little bit of tired.

I think get back to this distance, trainer Jonathan

Thomas, etcetera. I don't have to tell anybody

about him on the turf for sure. Edwin Maldonado is just going to

be a go, go, go, right? And so that horse just going to

get out there and if he gets there, he gets there.

If not, if not, we'll see what she does.

But you landed on the five horse in the second spot.

Confidentiality. Yeah, I, I, I thought that first

race they had was, was pretty decent.

The rider lost the whip in the stretch and and didn't finish up

all that great getting blinkers off, you know, a little bit of a

makeover package, but there there's some good works in there

since that first race and this one should be a lot better.

I believe Mark Glatt is hitting on all cylinders right now

getting Ricky Gonzales back in the saddle.

I think this horse is a lot better than that speed figure

they got the first time and they were favored also that first.

I was going to say it's are you surprised by the move to to the

turf here or would you expect, I mean, or is this just, hey, we

know we can get the race kind of thing?

No, I think this horse is bred to Sprint and and turfest really

doesn't matter. I don't think with with a lot of

the complexities, Mclean's music, they really kind of do

anything. I I've seen him win on synthetic

turf dirt. This probably just happened to

be the best spot available and and I think they're going for

it. Trademark Glad has won a quarter

of his maiden second starts in recent times and is on the

terror that Barry suggested. I mean, it's, it's been

unbelievable. 4 for 14 to start the year, 32 wins already in

twenty, 2625% percentage. Just he hasn't slowed down at

all. He was great last year.

He hasn't slowed down at all this year and I don't see Mark

Glatz barn cooling off any a time soon.

I'd certainly bet all of California racing pick six

starts here. Traditional $2.00 pick six in a

race of four, it's a $10,000 claimer.

Fillies and mares 3 end up. Never won three races here.

Barry We're going a mile and we are now at the point.

Barry. I thought about this as we were

as I was looking at this card last night.

We have reached the point where we do not have these restricted

Northern California races anymore.

We just have these horses, they're just around, right?

So they're just filling up these gates in these spots.

And in Race 4, of course, I will go first here.

I went 1-5 and three Berry. I'll try the rail rider in Tom's

Stars, the horse we've seen many times before.

And if you draw a line through the last out effort on the turf,

this one makes a ton of sense here.

One of maiden 12/5 at Santa Anita going 6 furlongs.

They stretched out 2 back in the end of March.

Horse goes ahead and wins against non twos, has to rally

to do it, but was in that stalking position the entire

time. Thiago Pereira keeps them out

here. Horse just didn't like the turf

last time. I understand.

I'm trying to just get into, you know, a 30 claimer, etcetera at

that kind of level, but horse just was never going to be

competitive there. Gets back to what I think it's

best at, so I'll put the one on top in here and then I went to

the five Barry after that in perfect life Aguilar rides for

Lorenzo Composano and this is one that if I'm willing to draw

a line through the last race that I can find a lot more

performances that I think are at this level and we're dropping

from that optional level back into the claiming level here.

This horse one at that Level 3 back was second two back and I

think will be part of the equation again in this one.

So I'll go 15 and 3 here. Barry, I know you agree about

that. Five got him on top.

Yeah, perfect life. This horse ran a good race when

they got claimed back in February in a nine winners of

two event. This is a nine winners of three.

But after that they went into open claim or ran a really good

race that day and actually didn't get a great trip in a in

A5 horse field. I know that sounds weird, but

they I didn't believe that they got the best trip.

They could have finished second and then went to another level,

the $8000 start allowance level and just didn't run a step,

didn't have a shot. And now they're dropping back

into the probably what is the the appropriate spot, the non

winners a three level since they cleared the non winners A2

condition. I I just think this horses

figures beyond that last race kind of stand out a little bit

over the rest of these. Yeah, 5, three and two for you.

What do you make of the three in this spot?

Daddy gave it to me. I think you picked this one

before actually. I I I like the improved effort

going longer last time and they can build upon that and that and

there is situations here where this horse is actually faster

than the 2 lil's coffee. And if that happens, this horse

could kind of get loose and, and, and really stretch these

runners out because these horses just aren't that fast and they

don't really like the pass very much.

So I I want to, I want to give daddy gave it to me a shot here,

especially second time going long.

Yeah, interesting stuff. 5-3 and two for you.

I have the five and three in my handicapping as well. 153 for

me. Totally agree on Daddy gave it

to me as well. So should be a fun one over the

mile there. Again, that condition very just

seems to be one that is just filling the gates man.

We're getting 7-8 horses in all those fields and you know that

part of the experiment seems to be working out.

Hopefully we'll be able to continue those kinds of races in

the future at Santa Anita as well.

Late pick 5 starts in Race 5A maiden 50 here for state breads

on the Philly side of things. This is for 3-4 and five year

olds, $35,000 in the purse for this one.

Barry, you'll go first here. The six furlongs on the turf,

something we handicap quite a bit.

We've got a horse and baby need shoes on the inside at 5:00 to

2:00 who dropped into this level and ran very well last time.

Couple of first timers as well. We're Jenna planning?

I landed on the four, unfortunately the favorite

Midnight Cowgirl. Kind of an Omnifig sort of

situation where those last two races are are faster buyer speed

figure wise than everybody else's.

This horse should get a good trip forwardly placed.

Doesn't necessarily need to be on the lead the first time.

Starters in here don't look like much and there's really not much

to beat beyond the one baby needs shoes, who probably needs

the lead and is kind of stuck on the rail.

So I, I, I went away from that one completely and I went to the

four midnight cowgirl to the hoop man.

Midnight Cowgirl, a $2500 breeding job.

And part of the good thing that they do at Santa Anita in this

condition area at this level, Barry, is that you're protected

at 50. No one's no one's claiming that

horse for 50, right? I mean just no.

One's you wouldn't think and. If they do good for you #2 if

they don't, then you're and you win.

You're, you're, you're in 50 allowances.

You're in that kind of level, right, all of a sudden with

those sorts of horses. And so 4, three and seven for

Barry in this spot. I went 5-4 and three.

I'll try Latin Air, the 1st timer here.

Barry, I love the works on the Tepita.

Most recently, a couple of good works from the gate as well.

First time turfers, Jeff Mullins hits at 16%.

First time starters in general, he wins 1:00 and 8:00 of those

races. But his turf percentage now is

up to 20%, his Sprint percentage 27%.

He and Ricardo Gonzalez yet to hit at the meet, but only have

two races together. Give me those kinds of

percentages with a first timer and he debuts and maiden

claimers, so on two of his last 6.

And so I think this is a spot where he knows, hey, even if I

have a maiden special kind of horse, I can get him into this

kind of field. They're very unlikely to get

claimed. I can go ahead and pick this one

off. Agree with you on the four and

the three here, Barry. But what do you like about the

three in humidity? This horse really hasn't run too

poorly, just can't get over the hump and win.

Should get a set up here. I think the the the pace is

probably going to be fairly honest and humidity can sit a

good trip, especially with Hector Barrios who does a good

job tracking leaders in general and getting position out there.

So I would gather that he's really going to try to stick

behind the first flight and make his move somewhere around the

far turn and that that might be the move to make.

But I I think midnight Cal girl at this point is just slightly

better. Late pick 4 will start in race

A6 Santa Dita Park Saturday. We're talking that here on the

Horse Racing Happy Hour. Luther Bowen Berry Spears are

presented by AM Wager and am wager.com.

Race 6 made in special weight state breads again.

On the Philly side, again, 3-4 and five year olds who moved to

the dirt for this 16 furlongs, they're $65,000 on the line

here, Barry. Even race means I go 1st and I

went to the rail again to the one horse in this one in never

in doubt another first time or I need first timers to have a day,

Barry. That's what that's what we're

discovering on Saturday at San Anita Park as I need that Never

in doubt for Andy Mathis, who has one with 21% with first time

starters in recent we in recent months and four for 10 for his

1st 10 starters this meeting. This is the horse with a bullet

out of the gate. The other day.

I just I looked through this field, Barry, I'm not convinced

by some of these horses trying to track for 19th time or

whatever it might be or even the favorite and Christa McAuliffe,

who I do think will run a very good race.

The five horse here. Man, I'd much rather have 9:00

to 2:00 on this horse and see if Kyle Frank can't just pilot this

one out of the gate. Good break and just go.

And so I'll go 15 and 4 here with Krista McAuliffe in the

second spot. I thought her run on the turf

last time was good, but she's got to go back to the dirt Berry

where I I haven't seen her show up in a way that I wouldn't try

a first timer here. So I'll go 154 here.

I know you went to a very similar spot.

Yeah, I I like never in doubt. I I think they have a sibling

that horse she has a sibling that one first time out.

This horse has the bullet work that you mentioned on April 19th

and two decent works. I I I like those longer works

afterwards too. Getting LASIK for the first

time. And like you said, Andy Mathis

is just firing on all cylinders, especially with his first time

starters. So I I think this one is, is the

step on the gas play where where Kyle Frey, he just has to turn

him loose or turn her loose and just and just go.

Hopefully we get that kind of ride and we get the victory here

at A at a better than favorite price.

You've got the other first timer, Florence Joyner.

Shout out Kojo, you're handicapping as well.

Couple nice works as well. Ton of gate works for this one

in recent works as well, both on the dirt and on the synthetic

working in both spots. Steve Miyati, man.

Another guy off to a nice start here as well.

Smaller barn, but already four wins this year. 11% with his

first timers as well. Man.

What do you like about Florence Joyner?

Yeah, this. Horse you'll see the breeding

out of Sir Prancelot and and tribal rules Sunday rules on the

bottom side. This horse is probably a turf

horse. However, this horse could be

talented enough to be competitive in this spot.

I I mean what you'll see with turf runners, especially when

they run on dirt, they usually make like a little middle move

and then flatten out and they're usually around the same lengths

from the leader the whole way around, right.

So that that maybe something to think about going forward when

you see horses in in, you know, or what you perceive as a turf

horse on the dirt. But I, I think this horse might

be talented. This is a good starting point,

real safe spot. Even if they don't win, they

could run competitive against some decent horses And and I

think down the road Florence Joyner might be a a decent turf

horse I think. Race 7 starts a late pick three,

$3 minimum on the late pick three of five, excuse me, a 15%

take out on that wager. Many of our friends, Barry, that

play regularly in Southern California, they really key in

on these races. Late pick 3, the turf pick three

and certainly the late double because of those take out rates.

Some of the best best payouts you can find, frankly, anywhere

in the country. Are in.

These pools race 7 Barry is if you can't like race 7:00, I've

got nothing for you. As a horse player, this to me,

this to me is just such a mix of like 8 year olds and four year

olds and we're trying a mile and an eighth and a bunch of them

haven't tried a mile and an eighth and some of them are in

for the tag and some of them aren't.

If you can't like this, I got nothing for you.

But we move on to Race 7. It is on the turf.

We are going 9 furlongs people. We're going a mile and an eighth

$20,000 optional Claver $67,000 purse.

Jimmy Blue Jeans is available for 20 GS people.

I, I don't know what else to say to you, but George, Papa

Boudreau, who has him up for the tag here?

Barry, I did not land on Jimmy Blue Jeans.

He is in my top three, but I did not land on him.

Where did you land here in what I'm deciding is the most horse

racing and horse racing races. Yeah, I.

I agree. I landed on the thank you.

I I I landed on the three stylishly acclaimed.

This horse honestly hasn't really run a a poor race where

you can't forgive. At Del Mar, they broke their

maiden in in pretty good fashion, kind of got a perfect

trip that day and they were out wide.

Then they were out wide again in a, in a race similar to this

one, an optional claimer, 20 non warders of 1.

And then they, they were laid off for a long time.

They didn't come back until February 14th, Valentine's Day

2026 and get to the winner's circle in a state bread

allowance race. Then they get to one of these

races and do nothing. But I, I think part of that was

being on the rail. Didn't really get a great trip

pinned in, didn't do much running.

They were three to one that day. I'm going to forgive that effort

and going longer to me makes some sense here.

This horse is out of an arch dam and the sires acclamation that I

think they can run all day. You know, the the the workout

pattern seems to be moving in the right direction.

The speed figures are are kind of on the upper end of things.

If you want to just kind of eliminate Jimmy blue jeans, who

I think is in in a tough spot here just pace an area wise, but

I I I think stylishly acclaimed is is really a a nice horse and

just needs to show it especially at this level gets Harmio again.

I I think all systems are GO-82 and.

One for me, I will take the chalk here, Barry finally, Saber

tooth for Antonio Fraser. This is one that, if you

remember, this is a horse we talked about quite a bit

actually, because. This.

Is 1 as a three-year old they try.

Or excuse me as a 2 year old they tried in a bunch of spots

of the Zuma beach. Almost won that one behind Iron

Man Cal and Artists Loss were in that race.

And then this one was in the thoroughbred aftercare at Del

Mar on Breeders' Cup day. Didn't quite get there on the

turf and then, you know, went back to the maiden ranks, then

went to the Eddie Logan, then went back to the Maiden ranks

and then finally broke through in New Orleans.

Came out West after a year off plus and I thought came back

running and I expect that horse to do exactly that here second

off of this kind of layoff is a major major plus with Tim

Yaktine as well. So I'll lean on her.

Excuse me, him in this spot, the $100,000 purchase in 2023, a son

of Grayson. He'll never quite get close to

making all that money back. But 8, two and one for me.

What's a druidic second here for Dan as karate.

All right, so this is this is my I need it to happen moment of

the weekend. No wins on the season over 13

Thiago Pereira rides. Almost got it done on the 6 1/2

last time. This is the horse I need to win.

This is it I need. I need Dan in the winter circle.

And then? I'm going to make a promise,

Dan, if you're watching, which I know you're not.

I I think this horse is getting to the right level. 12 to one

seems to be a stretch here, especially getting Hector

burials for Chuck trees. I, I know they don't hook up

very often, but this horse seems to be coming into this race the

right way with 75 to 1/2 races back last time going longer,

they were 9 to one in a in a a softer spot.

But I think really in this race, the longer the better and I

think Dino Dave might be able to to just kind of outlast these

horses and get in the number. A fun race for sure.

And Jimmy? Blue jeans third.

Of my handicapping, in case anyone cares.

I'm largely with Barry though, that I think that this race, I,

I think he runs out of gas after 8 furlongs and needs to go 9.

And that's just what it is. But I, I think that he can be on

the lead, Barry and essentially pick up the trifecta at the end

of the race. Sure.

Yeah, I mean, he's tough. He's a real tough horse.

That last race he ran, he hung in there a long time and just

got. He's a gamer, that's the thing.

He's. One of those out West turf

horses that you love because they just show up in California

in this kind of level for five years.

I'm not kidding. He's going to try.

If anything, he's going to try. You're going to get effort.

Out of them that's exactly right late double starts in race A.

horse returning in here, Barry that has put up some

unbelievable speed figures but just hasn't won and his run

These are the kinds of races out West that we get pretty excited

about. You and I did land on the same

horse though, and I'll go to the six on the outside in magnify

and and I'm sure you spent a fair amount of time like I did

trying to beat this one and I just couldn't find the.

Other horse to. Do that, but I think we'll break

and I think we'll get the same kind of effort we always get

from him. I'm just hoping, for whatever

reason, it will be slightly different this time.

I did go to Voldemort in the second spot.

that that's very funny. However Voldemort in here for

Juan Hernandez who's been aboard and Barry if you just draw a

line through that last race he's a pretty darn good racehorse,

ain't he? And so I, I, I think that part

is, is just fine off of this kind of layoff.

Bob Baffert 29%, I don't know those results, second, third,

first, second. I mean, those are as good as the

ones on the outside. 6 by 43 lengths.

That's no bueno, especially as their favorite $1.39 gross. 9 So

6. One, I should probably put my

VIX on board. You know what else?

Is is funny about Voldemort, who you have third in your hand?

Again, you don't really see Bob Baffert horses run.

Over. Or workouts, anything 49 I can't

remember the last time I've seen one O 2 right I I, I I really

don't see it. And that's really the deterrent

for me. That's that's the deterrent like

a. Baffert is what you're saying to

such a Yeah, that. That I mean, I don't think.

That's silly at all. It's it's.

A. It's a Yeah.

It might be a little silly, but you know, his numbers are great

and outstanding. That's that's what he doesn't

look for patterns. We yeah, you're right, you're

right. But yeah, I thought it was

really curious that this horse is working that slowly.

And you can see in March this horse is working quicker.

So I don't know what the deal is.

Very big question mark. Not sure what the price will be

on that horse too. That's the other thing.

And they're pinned on the rail. So I was a little cold on that

one, but I thought Magnified Drew well.

His run good pretty much every time except for the first time

out. Get hooks a field here that

isn't all that strong and they should dominate this race.

Coach Cronin, neither of us mentioned the two horse in here.

Barry. He won at the distance last time

under Mike Smith pretty easily. That was against state bred

company. Is that the big difference for

you? Because that's what it was for

me, yeah. Absolutely.

I think if if Coach Cronin sees another horse, he'll stop.

Knows the start of the late double.

Closer on the card on Saturday is the Grade 3 Senorita,

$100,000 on the line allegedly down the hill.

Allegedly it is for three. I've never seen it.

Busy day for three. Year old Phillies on Saturday at

Santa Anita Park. Barry, you get to go first.

You and I similar handicapping, but you're on top is very

different than mine. Yeah, this race is very, very

interesting, but I thought Mow Them Down might be heading in

the right direction. They ran in the Sorrento and ran

good against Hamika, who I'm not too keen on, but that was on the

dirt. They laid this horse off until

April 4th of this year and the horse runs pretty well getting

Lasix for the first time down the hill and and kind of equals

what they were doing before the layoff.

That's usually when I like to strike.

I think horses have another improvement in them from there.

Mow them down should get a good trip and is fast is just as fast

as anybody in here. I I I think the buyers are a

little light because of the fact that, you know, there there

wasn't, you know, there's not a huge sample size honestly, of

the downhill races like there used to be.

So, so you might get a little odd way of, of expressing those,

those speed figures, but I think this horse is good enough, fast

enough and heading the right direction on the improve I'm

going to take mow him down and hopefully we that that price

floats up a little bit, which I think it will.

So, so, you know, 4 to 1 seems about appropriate, yeah.

I went I went to the favorite here.

I went to the five in light one up.

This is one that Barry is interesting because did win the

Suite Life last year, excuse me, last month, a couple months ago

in February, they tried the limestone at Keeneland, this

very Doug O'Neill kind of move to go try that race.

That's sleigh of the day, that's Cy Fair.

That's those kinds of horses. Ain't no Cy Fair in this field,

brother. And so I just think an easier

spot we can kind of get a repeat of that Suite Life, which was a

full second faster than the optional claimer.

That moment down was about 6/10 of a second faster as well.

I'll tell you one that you and I both have in our top three that

I am fascinated by. Here is the six horse Marjoram,

which is going to be a 10 to one shot.

And I think we're probably going to get every bit of that Barry.

And this is one that's getting the hill again.

And this is purely me trusting Michael McCarthy.

That is purely me thinking that he sees something put this horse

right back down the hill again. Broke its maiden in the in the

slop at the highest level at Churchill $117,000 maiden tries

that optional claiming group and finishes 5th.

But Barry is flying at the end. Terrible break stumbled out of

the gate. I think we can get any kind of

better break. This horse is absolutely in the

race. So how about 5-6 and eight?

How about the 8:00? And if you don't love this one

Barry I I don't think we can be friends anymore.

Layoff for Phil d'amato the I love this one.

Let me talk to you about this one.

What? What are the two angles we talk

about going down the hill? Cut back, Cut back.

Cut back from a. Mile.

All right, this horse cut back from a mile.

Now, I know it's off the layoff, but let's do this.

Do you like 20 to 1? Because I do, I do.

I do like a horse that won the. Juvenile Phillies turf at Del

Mar. I do.

Do you like a horse that they tried in the Surfer Girl and was

part of the equation the entire way?

I do. I think this is an interesting

spot and I don't think that Phil D'amato would put this horse in

here unless he thought she was going to run a massive spot.

She was in the Sorrento before. This is a horse they have

thought a ton of. They they layer off until now.

They can bring her back anywhere they want, Barry.

They can put her 6 flat. They can do whatever.

There's other races on this card that she qualifies for, frankly.

OK, they're deciding to go in this spot.

I'm taking a way down, way down the field.

Throw at the 8 horse in here. 5-6 and eight, Yeah.

I I would pass on on Dreaming of Valleys only because that horse

really hasn't run any good ever. Did beat a group in the juvenile

Phillies turf that real soft. Yeah, OK, but not great.

I'm with you. Yeah, she's.

Very soft. I I mean, obviously the source

has some talent and they do think that this horse is pretty

good, but they're going to have to show it to me.

Same thing with Marjoram. I I kind of like this horse, but

though it's, it's hard to ignore the start.

She's gonna have to get out of the gate and and until that

happens, I'm gonna be down on her.

Maybe going longer might be the the remedy for that, who knows,

but I think this horse is talented enough and will be

coming late to put them in the number. 25 and 6 for Barry, 5-6

and eight for me in the Senorita.

That is the feature on the card. It's also the last race, which

means we've come to the close of this show again in Maryland
