Full Transcript

Alright, hello everybody. Welcome to the horse-racing

happy hour, Mike and awful here with what's your name?

Ha ha Zach. I know you'll love all the stuff

that's going back and forth on the ESPN radio stuff.

So I sabotage Louise interview today with Ben Roberts, it was

fantastic Louise, mic is not on. Yes, that's right, that's right.

That's right. He he definitely could pop in a

Derby coverage because he's usually there.

Yeah, you know, he's my little Simon Roberts.

Louise mic is not on with Jesus, even better just Whatever

Louise, Mike is still light, right?

Can you hear more exact? Let me turn it up a little bit.

Yeah, he sounds fine now. Okay, good, what a day.

Alright, so, yeah, so, we're here and actually, it's a

special special shows act because it is Louise birthday

weekend. And I will tell you this, that

Louis will always remember. Like my birthday is not that big

of a deal to me and but Lucy always remembers my birthday and

always makes me feel like shit so but shit it a good way, you

mean? Yes.

Yes. And I remembered I was by your

something. You're always nice.

You get a gift guide. I buy you like like Star Wars

gift bags to hold your gift in. Yeah, it's always very well

thought out, right? And then you want to get really

personal and long-term like until about a decade ago.

Louis wouldn't even let me celebrate his birthday.

Oh really. So Louis doesn't like his

birthday celebrate but he know, he's always doing.

He's always doing stuff for his birthday like you know, they're

going to sheriff way this weekend.

So somebody's got to go to church way, right?

Yeah. Well you just did it.

I don't have my pin so I can't get in yet.

So I got to figure out what's going on there.

Should I pull should I pull rank this weekend?

Maybe she did my buddies pay for seats and I just get out the TWA

be pain. Absolutely.

Absolutely yeah, but since it is Louise birthday weekend, we're

going to pull out the good stuff.

We're going to give them given the Van Winkle Pappy.

Well, little Pappy. Oh, so there you go.

There's your poor for today. I'm still not drinking calories,

so I'm doing all right, so I can have as much of this as I want

because my birthday is 100%. There it is.

Ok. As much as of these you want.

It's driving me home. You know that.

Oh there it is. There it is.

Ten Summers old, by the way, is what it says, on the bottle, it

is the 10 year old, which is my actually listen.

I know of all the other Van Winkle's and slowly, that the

tingle one is the one that fits my flavor profile.

The best. It's the right.

The 13 for a long time. It was 15 up 15.

Yeah, I think that's the 15 years so it's a good again.

That's a good bourbon as well. So our fit not bourbon, it's a

good whiskey. So let's get the show rolling,

man. We got a lot going on with.

What are we talking about? Setting up the show?

We will have a special cigar visitor from Tampa right around

the 10-minute Mark at this episode.

And then of course, at about the 20 minute, Mark will welcome in

on track analyst this weekend at Tampa Bay.

We bury our boys, very the urban handicapper, the sniper,

whatever you want to call him. Barry Spears will be on with us.

Former teammate of Ben Wallace about that.

There you go. That's how some sure he played

the game. Yeah, not a lot of talk about

basketball because I did play the game.

Listen, you can coach basketball, the third and Grade

level that's about it. So there it is.

I think you can finish this group may be, did you think six?

No, I never did. Fourth grade was he'll say we

didn't we didn't have any support.

Actually, you were good at that.

I love doing this. You posted each other so that I

can't go. I like that.

You think I control with the guard has run its 105 and what

you did. Okay, let's go Turfway.

Gandolfo can go with either way. Shout out.

Somebody's guys put give it up his RV.

We got a driver. You're taking the ark.

Would you want a party bus to Turfway?

Let's go, let's go. There's no other way to turn 42.

Let's go 42 back one back in those good old days.

Back in the day. All right, let's get some

replays man. I'm excited.

Alright we're going to start off with the The Derby prep which

dude I mean the Derby prep Forte looked freaking great.

This is it. Let's see him.

Yeah so listen town of Youth right here.

He debuted with an easy Victory and we found a few steaks.

Here's your two-year-old Champion.

Here's Forte gear down. So Louis first time out, since

the Breeders Cup. Yep.

And looks like he's been in train the entire time.

I mean it was about as impressive as a first.

He looks like it off the layoffs.

He looks fantastic but he looked like right?

Not first off the way off here and the other part that's

interesting is you just saw the top two horses in that race.

Both guarantee a spot in the Starting Gate.

Yes. Because rocket can finish a

second that's 220 points finishes for him at Gulfstream

Park, which is an excellent predictor for good performances

in the Kentucky Derby for take shows up, goes for wide.

That is a winning style, the ability to go to the for path of

the file path in the derby happens.

All the time for the winter, you have to do that constantly.

Remember, orb in 2013 really stands out.

You know, the maximum-security kind of country house was in

that 34 type of path that happens all the time in the

Kentucky Derby. So Not only was it a very good

performance We got a little more crowd at the top of that group

with some of those horses that we've really like to this point

Forte backed up and it's unusual.

It's almost we're almost getting another Nyquist here, right?

Yeah, could kind of that kind of path where we might have a

horse. Go into the derby with the kind

of record that he does and I don't think Forte won his first

start Nyquist was undefeated and undefeated Kentucky toward

didn't Forte lose the Cave Rock. Yeah that's not.

Yeah. And one race and then sets an

unbeaten but it has a Nyquist kind of feel It's important for

you to check preciate that I should be more prepared know

you're okay. He has that kind of feel to him.

He's got the trainer, he's got the jockey, all the pieces are

there, and so the connections are there.

I mean, at that is it's as good a performance.

As we've had outside of probably Arabia night in the slop at

Oaklawn. I would.

But this is a as good a group of that was.

Yeah. I mean, we'll great.

Yeah. Rocky Canyon.

Is it legit? I think could be a top ten

finishers in the derby. Oh for sure.

And so when you think of you think he'll win another graded

Stakes this year. Yeah.

Oh yeah. Yeah.

So I mean that's it. That's a good horse.

I'm looking at like we could have a forte Forte Arabian night

kind of matchup in the derby man.

It just it excites me, I mean, it really does not great.

I think that this time this is when I started getting down on

three year olds, right? Yes.

Yeah, yep. So yeah, I'm really excited.

So 40 did lose two. Most strike actually did not

lose the case most striking out and actually didn't even come.

Didn't that was the his first Stakes race in the Sanford?

In July interesting for Forte because we don't see See he

broke his Maiden in May of last year we don't typically see that

Louis. I mean that's that's not

something that's been a winning combination, right?

Where a horse breaks his Maiden so early in the two-year-old

season and still looks this good as a three-year-old traction and

obviously developing yes, physically imposing and

developing buddy. My Buddy Rich was down.

It goes stream last week for the race and he sent me a text right

before the race and he just said look if the paddocks right

before tables. Mm no it's I mean, that that's

the other part of this too is that the performance matters?

But also just once in a while the physicality, you know, you

and I always go back to Sarah giddy, a with that once in a

while, the physicality matters and this case it definitely

matters with him and, you know, definitely a style.

He stalked just well enough to it's a style that can win the

Derby, man. It's gonna be great.

It's gonna be fantastic. So sorry about the neighbors,

dogs barking, hear that? But listen, it's what you get

when we're outside. You get all the ambience that

coming through loud and clear. There's that Like he's not

allowed and clear, but we got good mice.

All right. Hey listen are spoiling cigars.

We got a friend. Yeah, our boy, Nick's here.

Let's pull nickel a real quick. Yeah, we need more Italian on

the show. Here we go.

Great. Yeah.

There and yeah. What'd you say, can you hear me?

How the pony Street yet? The point of shooting.

The ponies are treating us. Well man shrieking as well.

So got her Single Barrel, cigar here, Nick was single barrier,

cigars great partner of ours last year.

I think we're gonna start seeing some more of them this year.

Nick what's been going on with single-barrel cigars and we got

exciting stuff. It's been it's been non-stop so

we're coming up on our year anniversary that we officially

launched appropriately, April Fool's Day.

We're releasing our Maduro on April Fool's Day.

It's the first time we're going to Whole launch.

That it's like Mexican candy. You guys, it's like so sweet and

spicy. It's just, it's I'm so proud of

him. I cannot wait to get them in

everybody's hands they're delicious.

We did them in one of the corona Single Barrel picks on what was

it Russell's Reserve and boy, did they come out?

Good. So really.

So that's that's my like favorite everyday bourbon.

By the way, is Russell's was Curve and I love a Maduro.

It's my second favorite rapper so I cannot wait to get my hands

on one of those could be great. I got great news.

I'm coming up to Louisville in two weeks.

I'll bring I'll bring you guys both a box.

A little special early release awesome.

An awesome. You're going to be a pro

Thursday. We're going to get you live on

the show. Do that.

Oh, that'd be fun. It looks cold.

You know you know that it is always open and Nick.

We're going to have a bunch of our listeners heading out to the

track this weekend in Tampa for the Tampa Bay Derby.

How many stores are you guys in in Tampa now?

Where's a place that people should be looking for you?

We're all over, we've really taken off in this market.

We're in word about almost 40 liquor stores and Cigar Lounge

has in the Tampa Bay Market. Some of the laws where in the

corona is here in Tampa. Or I'm at right now will be in

The cronies in Orlando shortly, we're in Lukens Liquor Depot

soon to be in tobacco deep but we're all.

I mean, we are really all over the place, we have done a great

job, it's funny because I was just here and I just landed I I

ran to the airport or I ran here from the airport.

I Didn't Have a Cigar Ami, I grab them from the counter.

I went to the register and the guy behind the register.

He didn't recognize me, didn't look up, he looks because if you

tried those yet, I said no. And he goes me and they're

really good and I started laughing.

I said, hey, I appreciate that. That he's looking at us all of

your cigars and he started laughing.

So that was, that was kind of funny.

I enjoyed that moment, but we're getting great reviews here

bourbon. Bourbon lovers are just really,

you know, I mean I was never a flavored or infused, or whatever

you want to call that. I was just really scared.

You're a chief officials. Like, I am always was, yeah,

converted myself to something with a little bit of bourbon in

it. Hey, and we, as a cigar guy in

the, in the group, I just want to lie, want to explain again,

what's different about Single Barrel.

So, They are not taking an already rolled in most cases.

It's a second kind of one of the bundles cigars, and just kind of

spritzing it, or put it into a humidor.

That's got some alcohol. And they're there to actually

taking the parts of the, they're taking the leaf itself and aging

it in these bourbon barrels and then rolling the cigars after

that. And it's just a really unique

process. And it's they're not cheapening,

the process, all they're using top-quality tobacco, top quality

cigar Ours and they're doing a great job with it.

Thank you. Thank you very much.

And by the way, the one I have here is from June of last year

and I've been to intentionally saving some for longer you no

longer stretches so that I can see how much it gives infused

because in each little in each container there's some Barrel

Char and so it adds that bourbon flavor over time.

I'm excited to get into one. Awesome, I'm glad they're,

they're still rocking. We've smoked up.

I got some from April 1st last year when we launched and every

once in awhile, grab one to make sure that their Doing well there

sometimes I think they get better but yeah, they're doing

great. Awesome.

We were, we were in Vegas. We can have two weeks ago when

we were out there. We met with, we met with Philip

and Kings at the Monte Cristo Lounge in Caesars Palace.

And we had a big meeting out there at the time and we just

found out this afternoon that filth and Kings is actually

bringing us on. So we're going to be nationally

distributed throughout the throughout the United States and

all of Monte Cristo lounges and Phillip and Kings is Rolling us

out. So we're going to be in some of

their cigar magazines. Is pretty exciting day for

single barrel. Dude, that's awesome.

I was just in the Montecristo Lounge.

In San Juan Puerto Rico of all things.

I'm out those sound terrible. Now was not terrible.

I'll tell you that are I will Nick will.

Hopefully we'll get to see you in a couple weeks but I'm sure

we will get out of here. Should everybody check you out?

I know that we have been pushing the Instagram feed for you guys,

you know, the temple even bourbon boys and all the Barrel

stuff down there. Yes please.

Yeah, Instagram. Single Barrel.

Cigar Co one word, if you guys follow us, if you're interested

in product free shipping, if you tell them you heard us on the on

the on the show here. We're happy to get everything

out to you ASAP. Nice just a couple weeks man.

That's awesome. Great news.

Yeah looking forward to it our buddy.

Thanks Nick. All right, Nick.

All right, gentlemen, take it easy, good.

Talking to you. I'm assuming.

It's good time, good. Good to see Nick.

It's been a while, man, who do not see him in July.

Diana track and yes except all right.

Get him out of here. Get Nick out of here, we got

exactly. All right, I want to just

mention a couple other things real quick before we get off the

fender youth just because I think there's a couple things

that do bear just kind of noticing with these other

horses. Obviously Rocky can't finish the

second which I think we anticipated you know.

I know you thought Rocky Canyon could could have the type of

performance that could pop up and you can win this race

cycler. Mischief came back and had a big

race after a very disappointing. And I think that bears Just some

sort of acknowledgement, we've been, you know, tough on Dale.

Romans the last couple years, but that's a big run right there

for a cyclone missions. Coming in third, do you take

anything from blazing sevens? Not necessarily coming in second

to last, but he didn't handle traffic.

Very well and got bumped early and didn't overcome that

adversity, and of course, if you get hit, if you get into the

Derby you're gonna get bumped. I'm not a fan of his in general.

Yep. So I wasn't stunned that he

didn't run. Well, he was the one I assumed

would not. Translate for him from

two-year-old three-year-old in the sheet.

I gave out to horses and they ran 12.

Yeah so for me it was a it was that race went to form for me

and so I wasn't I'm not this isn't a brag session, I promise

it's more. Just I wasn't surprised by the

outcome, so know that that performance didn't surprise.

Okay. All right.

Well there you go. All right, we're going to move

on to the. That's all right.

Are we going to the coffee? Yeah, go to the.

I will go to Gotham. They reach a quarter mile, left

to go. Carl Road there.

Well, clear of the horse now. Carmel Road is got the lead at

the top of the stretch up on the outside.

It sighing Clover, who's ready to challenge Ian Clover to the

outside of Carmel Road and they are lined up here on the

grandstand side up on the far outside, General Banker.

In from out of it, raised Cain has taken the lead.

It's raised Cain. Who's come from the back of the

field is now passed them all raise Cain as well.

Clear inside the final sixteenth raise Cain is going to draw way

and win the Gotham. It's raised Cain over slip.

I love Raising Cane's Chicken. All right, hold on.

I want to say something before you guys get into it while know

what you're going to say, what was I going to say about the

riderless horse, oh my God, how awesome was that led the pack

for a third of the race and then comes in second?

I mean, great Not Unusual to see.

Actually, when the horse that doesn't have a jockey, actually

finishes up towards the, he's not carrying 100 pounds, but in

a televised Stakes, it's not often, you're right, it's been a

nice seen that. Horse leading the pack the whole

time. It's just so I Love Actually how

the track announcer, just, like completely ignored your, it's

like acted, like the horse was even there quarter.

Who's the track announcer. Dr. George, I really don't know

if he's got a funny name. I think it's so overrated

attracting other thing. So it's like that.

I think, I think it's funny. Okay, who is it Chris Griffin?

Okay, from from Family Guy, whole family, all right.

To be the announcer Parks, I thought Jessica got.

Yeah, that's right. That's right.

Who we need? Get on the show, I do.

Well, we actually do a horror that because we promised her a

company, whatever. + EXA family and I listened I do like like, I

like them as people. It's just, you know, I know you

get very into the race callers and it does not really affect my

experience that much. So that's just what I got to

say. Only thing I'll say there is

raised Cain again, huge huge upset by the way you guys long

shot good good style of running and that's the kind of horse

that hits the board in the derby.

Yeah I write I don't know how finishes third, fourth, whatever

it is because in picks up the pieces at like 30 3 2 1, it's

the horse that you don't. You don't see coming kind of

thing. I don't know that he's a winner.

I don't know that. I think it's more likely, that's

the horse. That skips the Derby hits the

board in the Preakness. Okay.

Yeah, it's possible. Yeah.

Nice paycheck though. Got like, 180 out of that one.

And you know, and that's it. Pays a lot of bills.

So good for them. Yeah.

It's not going to be my top five list.

Was just put that, right? Well, here's here's what still

has the other, the other, the race yet.

The other race is the San Felipe.

So, let's move on exactly the same Felipe.

I mean, it'll be inside, Skinner coming with They're at the top

of the stretch that John Dee tactical, move cuts the corner.

Now to challenge him, it S 3 back to Fort Bragg and Skinner

down at the rail. Go Rocket.

Ride is running on valiantly but it's practical move coming.

Past that 16th Bolin come in and practical move.

Another big effort from him under Ramon Vasquez, Winds of

San Felipe. Now you you mentioned as soon as

Forte ran his number or you put out, what his Echo Base number

was, is that what it was is that you put No, he's you.

I can't remember. Who was.

You will practical move had the best my number.

Yes, of the weekend and this is the this is the horse that kind

of for me. First off.

I love the fact that it's yok teams, actual horse and not one

that bad, forgave them. Correct.

So that's a huge thing about Vasquez is becoming a problem.

Southern California. Oh 100% guys, going to be riding

in the derby if he makes it. Yeah you I would throw practical

move right now. My top four okay II, don't think

that's real, that's a winning style absolutely.

It's also totally Style and and he was dominant and Insanity to

translate small church with us. Absolutely.

Yes. No, absolute favorite and go

rocket, who was right there, go Rocket Ride.

He was right there with him. We talked about how much we love

flavor and practice a and saying, Anita practical move to

me, looked like a legit serious Contender and I really cannot

wait to see what that horse does and the Santa Anita Derby.

And what did he? Where did he Ozzy end up?

Finishing a Josie ended up coming in.

Fourth, okay, it's a three million dollar purchase.

Yeah, it's just not going to Work well, and it typically

doesn't at all whatever level. That's right, you know, people

have a hard time. Buying Derby winners.

It just doesn't really ever come into play.

So you know, practical move though that it would gets

interesting to me. Is yachting.

If he has a legit Derby Contender now, and if he gets

these other Derby contenders like he's, you know, he's always

got an unusual. Predicament, that's very unusual

predict. Yeah, right.

I do. It's just a really interesting

situation to just kind of to kind of watch from afar.

And if I'm if I want two bathrooms, all owners, I don't

know if I want to go to your team.

Hmm, I might want to go to someone else, that's too late

now, it is. Yeah, so I think you go to your

team because of what we talked about.

Beasley, which is that unlike last year backwards actually out

at the track, right? And that's that's a very

different, but he's not supposed to be doing anything and

Bradford, doesn't cheat. It's a very different thing this

year. Yeah, animal American political

packs, don't work with the politicians that they support.

That's right. So I'm glad you understood that

there's XO. All right, what anything else to

add on that? I mean, besides practical move

is legit. He's absolutely it.

And again, one of the things that you and I really stress

when we watch the prep works is if it's a winning style or not,

right? And that is a winning style lots

of different styles Wednesday, the Preakness or the Belmont or

the Oaks, for example. But in the derby it's very

unusual that we get what we got last year with Rich strike as

far as total, you know, dead last in a rabbit and all those

things. Now, could we get another rabbit

this year? Sure.

It's possible to or unlikely but possible as possible.

So, we'll have to watch that as it comes down.

All right, we're not going to talk about out the big cap but I

mean we're not going to watch the replay but just real

quickly. Louis did you have any kind of

thing to add especially just that don't really happen to fund

it? Yeah he didn't he didn't bounce

back totally, you know? Half the horses have come out of

the Pegasus really well in the other half haven't will see

another one of those this weekend and Skippy Longstocking

down at Tampa Bay, who I'm going to be leaning on a my tickets

because I think it's a much softer, landing spot and I think

the trip to Tampa is considerably different than the

trip to La for example. And we need to remember man this

is it's a different era now than it was three or four years ago

in shipping equines long distance.

Because now they're going to contain cars, man.

They live the good life, they did for a long time.

It ain't it ain't that way anymore.

Not, right? I don't know.

I think of life that's not the good life right now, okay?

Because their interests are in consider cards, there is no, the

equine Airline thing isn't happening right now.

And I think that's a big factor in some of these horses shipping

safe from Miami to La. That's a, that's a hell of a

trip, man. Go ahead, brick.

Barry in man, because this is good a time as any.

Let's get our guy in here. I'll skip ahead a little come

back to these Oaks races. He's doing 100 of these shows.

I'm sure. So I'm a 101.

Other one. There were the only one that

matters there but that's okay. That's right.

Want to talk horse racing or do you want to talk to you?

Which one you want to do either? Or you know, you don't want to

switch it up as they once were.

Now you got these L deals and kids don't want to go to a big

school. They don't really have to

anymore. I just think it's just gonna

create a lot of parity throughout the whole could be a

Jerome Tang in the Kansas state. Do a really great job, you can

be, you know, in a lot of different schools and doing a

really good job. We're sorry you're seeing it on.

We started seeing this a little while ago.

Remember when like George Mason went all the way to the final

four? Well, Chicago region.

Oh yeah. Yeah.

It's just a trend of these guys that are not Going to the big

top. You know, what used to be

called, one, a Schools, they're staying at home, going to a

maybe a smaller division, one school.

But they got the big time talent.

And, and it's showing because those teams aren't, you know,

like the Kentucky's of the world aren't as dominating as they

once were easy. Now, he's the urban and if not

Louisville. That's all you.

Yeah, that's right. Now, I will say that none of

those small teams of jumped up and wanted.

They've made to the final four. We haven't seen him like Loyola

Chicago, I think the best example getting to the final

four. We haven't seen any of them,

kind of really get through and actually win it.

No, they haven't broken through. Yeah, but it will happen.

You know, I agree that it will happen, actually, I think that's

right. That I didn't feel that way.

Five years ago, I feel that way. Now he is Barry Spears though.

Urban handicapper the sniper at Urban handicapper on Twitter.

No, a in urban, go find him there.

Join the thousands, that followed Barry.

On Twitter as well. He will tell you Ben, Wallace

stories. If you ask yeah you been all

right, man, you doing. Okay, yeah, it was cool.

I gotta say for Sam F Davis man seen the pictures with your,

with your parents and everything.

I thought that was awesome. Thanks man.

Yeah, it was really cool, you know, I was glad that my parents

were able to come out and my son who's in the Navy.

Got he was on furlough so he was able to come.

Yeah, it was it was pretty cool. So, you know, where is he right

now? What's he up to?

He, he just flew out the hole. Aye dude.

Hmm. But then he's going to get on a

boat in a month and then we're going to meet him in a year in

Hawaii. So we're going to take a trip

out there for maybe a month or so I'm a good for you.

Is he enjoying it? Yeah.

Yeah. He's you know, he wasn't the

model student so it was a little bit of adjustment because now he

because Dazzle General Gambler. No, I know math I promise you.

I know man. Health great, you know?

But he spent a lot of time in school, he's doing like some it

stuff in there. So you know, we had to get the

clearances and they did backgrounds on myself on my

wife. You know, it was crazy but it

made it through and he's doing well.

So we're happy. It's good, man.

Yeah, no. It's a great option for guys

like him, right? That maybe school isn't their

thing but you know, you can get you get a ton of experience and

so I hope he gets a. The other part is you get to

travel the world, right? I mean see stuff that That's the

thing right? He's gonna live in Hawaii.

I mean we got big day out of Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay dance. How many steaks are?

We looking at? We got five steaks for graded.

Yep. All right, your cursors up

messing with my associates. I'm not trying to be.

I'm just did it on purpose. Couldn't see, six takes four

graded Stakes so what do you want?

Start with this one early I just wanted to get berries thoughts

because very and I handicapped differently and I think it's one

of my favorite things about having him.

On the show. Just I mean I don't want to pick

your brain. You know.

Go Stakes by steaks or anything here, Barry necessarily but you

know, are there are there some horses at longer prices that you

like I will give you a for instance.

I think if you draw a line through the Sam F Davis for

Prairie hawk in the actual Tampa Bay Derby on the outside there

for saffy. And for Sammy Camacho who really

knows the track. I mean, I don't know that he

wins, but it's 20 21. I think that's a horse that

absolutely could be part of the equation at the end of the race.

Is there another horse? Maybe if we go straight to the

derby that you like, Like it's tough to get around habit rice.

He's oh no. He's so he's the most generous,

not close, I agree, it's tough, but I can't fault anybody for

forgiving. Anything that went on, in the

Sam Davis because it was a real, is really weird race.

It only rained for those two steak races to Philly race.

And then that one and it would like, would you consider the

track fast for that race? Yeah.

Okay. Because he had Breeders Cup

Berry and they called it fast, but because it was so windy.

They had to keep putting down water and that was like a pretty

heavy Track by the time they ran the classic actually.

Yeah. No this this big.

We got a really big downpour for basically like an hour.

Yeah. Right.

And then it covered those two steak races and it got worse

towards the end of it. So, right at the beginning of

That race. It was a complete downpour it

was probably raining as hard as it ever did that day at that

time. And you'll see like, like the

performance from ten horse Champions dream.

Yeah. Right.

He was up on the pace and just completely stopped for no

reason. I mean I don't think the

distance is a problem for that horse.

It could have been the track. I don't know.

So I can't really you know with any confidence say You know why

a horse got a certain trip or didn't run because it was weird.

It was really weird so I can definitely see that and there is

a possibility that a horse like tappet rice who is going to be

overlaid, you know, he might not fire.

Yeah, people forget he's still, I mean, this is Andres only run

three times. Yeah, so it's not out of the

realm of possibility that he just doesn't run his best race

on Saturday. More likely to you that he wins

or that he just doesn't run his best race more, likely that he

wants just because the connections he's in.

Yeah, right. Sure, you know, Fletcher's been

there before, he's done it. He's you know, he even shipped.

His other horse out that one. The Sam Davis for this one.

I think this one is a better Prospect anyway, which was, I

thought it was a little weird that he did that but we'll see.

Pleasure is looking like he might have a really good for

Saturday May. I agree that he'll well, he's

had that before and and came up empty.

T. We are 5461.

Yeah, I can't remember. Yeah, but this is about a Duo

that you could possibly have. I mean I know he's had strong

horses in the past but this is, you know, but there's again I

think this is a really strong 30.

Well the March 11 date to allow him to run an early April prep

to if they want to write. So that's the other part of the

I think it's the genius actually of Roy and Tampa runs.

This race is that it allows horses to graduate out of this

race into another race. If they want to, you know,

classic Causeway wins this race at a Price last year, variable

before that we had the King gear, most of the world and

different skincare mode drink. If you had to, if you had to

grab a longer price horse in this race, who's your favorite

of the longer price horses? Is it that then?

Yeah, I so and maybe, you know, I mean that horse is going to be

pretty long. But I've Bolin deserves a shot

here, too because he be granted Croaker race.

Is that Echo? Is it?

I think would be much Much better served on the cut back

like oh, Kevin 7:30, okay, for a long type horse because the

horse is super fast and probably will be on the lead problem is

in this race. There's a lot of others doing

the same thing. I think that one kind of lucked

out because the outside horse. What's his name?

So very else. Oh my God, Prairie Creek.

Yeah, yeah, Barry Hawk that horse just didn't run a step.

So, you know, if you forgive that one and think that, you

know, the Prairie Hawks probably going to be forwardly placed as,

you know, as expected. I think Zydeco doesn't have as

much effect on the race as he did the last time, got it?

Do you think like a like, say, you know, a classic Legacy who's

in here for Belmont Belmont? Having a really, really good

trip down to Florida this year, obviously, with our collector

with Rocky, can, you know, random that Sam?

If Davis was right there. I mean, it was within three

lengths at the end there. Is that a kind of horse?

You know adding I read that might have a better run here.

Yeah absolutely I mean you tell he handled the rising class you

know into steaks pretty well. I mean he hasn't run since

December 3rd. Runs on February 11, runs a

bang-up forth in a you know first time steak.

It's not bad. I think that horse might be the

Forgotten horse. That might his price might go up

a little bit. Yeah, I love litigate in the

same. F Davis, do you agree that he's

a potential? Hit the board type in the

Kentucky Derby. No, I don't like him at all.

Okay, why not? He's just slow, he did that.

That race wasn't very fast. Okay.

Comparison to the other preps and it was a weird race all the

way around. I just, I would assume just toss

it. This one probably a better gauge

especially if tap it tries kind of dominates.

I think that's really the only one here unless somebody like

Freaks and runs some outstanding race.

We didn't see. I think tappet rice is probably

the only one with that kind of potential here.

Okay, go to go, do to the race before it free.

Look is 221 for Chad and irad hasn't run.

Since that Breeders Cup. Juvenile fillies Turf in

November. We see plenty of Phillies come

from their two to three-year-old season.

Keep that form. Do you expect her to do that

Saturday? Is there another horse in the

Oaks? That, that very likes.

I took a long look at the 11, Brian Lynch horse Grace,

darling. I thought that race that she ran

a ghost dream was pretty good from way outside just like she's

going to be on Saturday. I think Tyler can work out a

trip. I've seen Brian Lynch, put one

over like this in the past in this same race.

Few years agos things are French horse.

He had that won this race and didn't win again.

Oh wow. That number two.

I think the horse was like 14 to 1 this is a few years back but

he does well with these you know improving lightly race Phillies

on the turf that's probably his bread-and-butter I would think

another oldest Christian arm. Oh yeah that the sweetest it was

a really legit race and I think Alpha Bella coming out of that

race has a serious shot here. Yeah.

I mean, yeah, I like that race to.

I just didn't like the winner. Okay, I didn't want the winner

out of that race Alpha. Bella probably ran the best

race. I thought I agree and I thought

Stephanie's charm might get a second look for somebody.

Hit the board at a big price. That horse comes flying late.

There's enough speed in here to keep dishonest and I think that

one has a good shot to at a big price.

That's the seven Stephanie's from 15 to 10.

Morning line here for four DS and for Jimenez coming in here

and then going back, man. I think the hardest one to

figure out here is the ninth race.

Even though there's only seven entries here, Barry, the

Hillsborough you get some names and this is, you know, this is

one of those classes. We these are horses that we all

get to know and they all kind of trade turns win and races,

Russia years in this race. Cams Mission, chat to sorrow, of

course. Surprisingly, he's in here.

Temple City tear who's been running since the French and

Indian War who It that you like who's did you land on someone on

top here. This feels like the hardest one

to figure out here because shots is Sarah.

I mean, she's really classy. That horse.

Has it wrong. She hasn't won since October of

2021 man. Yeah, you know, it's, this is a

tough race because you have all the Chad brown horses, like,

rogier I am totally against in that horse has every right to

win this race. Yeah, right.

Yeah. I just don't, I really don't

like that horse in general. You know, I always thought that

she was like his third strength. I mean, you can see in the past

performances, who she was getting beat by Bleecker Street

in Italian talika, you know, basically, all the other Chad

Brown horse. This is Other see, you know, the

stablemates. So that one is probably going to

take money and I don't look like she saw era is a horse that kind

of runs the same race every time, which is good, but I don't

think that race is much more better than anybody else in this

field. Especially the way the pace is

going to set up. It's not much speed Scottish

star. Looks like the speed of the

speed. Sure.

But I can also see a horse like California, queen.

Getting out in front and then I think that's what they're going

to do with California. Queen is yeah, I hope so.

Especially at 12:50 tell you that I liked the one.

Do you think tablespoons here has a serious shot here because

I do That's the one thing Walsh doesn't do great is bring

horses. Back off a layoff.

Yeah that's why I mean if it was second Off the Bench I would

like that one more time which has the class has the class to

be competitive here. It's a tough read on that one.

I mean, if you like that horse, I wouldn't I wouldn't talk you

off because it's not, like, he doesn't run well, or she doesn't

run. Well, all right.

Look Rosier. It's just that stupid Breeders

Cup Filly and mare Turf, you know, I try to stay away from

horses. First time back off of the

Breeders Cup win or race. You know, we kind of got a

little of that last week with Forte, but he was just so much

better than everybody else. Yeah.

Really that. So not in this field, she's not

that much better than everyone else.

That's right. Exact.

And since we're going backwards, let's go to that Challenger man.

The eighth race here. Grade three mile.

And a sixteenth are going for 100k here.

Skipping long stopping lands in a softer spot.

Here, I say, I imagine this is a spot where I really trust him

and you're trying to beat him. Yes, I'll bury oh no.

Hey I know you know me you got the Playbook on the sniper but I

do like his stablemate funny enough the Reds because there is

quite a bit of speed in here. No sir, it's classic Causeway,

Mighty heart, even tax has speed but I think the Reds could get a

good trip. Especially second off the

layoff, the the forms a little bit.

Muddied up a little because that endorsed race was actually

pretty damn good and it's going to prove to be a lot better than

it looked on paper endorsed, came back to win octane, came

back to run well out of that race a couple of times and you

know the Reds isn't that far off it just needs an opportunity.

You know It's just tough because every time the source was in

great company, it just didn't run any good except for the

Pennine Ridge that was off the turf right and there was only

five Horses in there. So he's not that reliable, but

running style pay scenario, kind of favors his.

He'll be running like fourth fifth, write something like that

in this, in this field maybe six or something like that and if

he's got the gig at the end he's got as good a shot as anyone,

right? Exactly.

And I think, you know, Skippy Longstocking kind of towers over

this field. At least speed figure wise, but,

you know, stranger things happen.

When courses like you look, the move back.

I mean, look, classic calls way. Love this track last year, 11.

That's a May Derby last year. Do you like the move back to

putting him in this spot? I do not.

I think this horse is a probably be a better, 74 long one.

Turn Mi type. I think they got a little bit

too ambitious. After he won the Belmont Derby,

I think that it wasn't a fluke. But it was the The Perfect Storm

of elements for that horse to win because everybody was kind

of sleeping on him since he kind of faded after the Derby Trail.

Yep. There was no speed in that race.

He was literally the only horse that was going to the lead.

He did anyone, then they started doing it again and going longer

You know, and then gets spanked by nation's Pride twice and

appleís beats them. Then he kind of goes off for my

I think 741 turn on the dirt is probably what he's best at.

They're trying to catch lightning in the bottle.

I I feel bad for the owners here because, well, never mind, they

can afford to own horses, but the, this is feel bad for the

millionaire. Oh yeah, right?

Exactly. No, it's it.

There are no like, seven Furlong Turf races and he'd probably

agree. Be good at 7 for a long-term

phrases, you know. I mean, like, yeah, I mean, you

can't get that at Belmont, but right.

It's only, it's so beautiful, right?

Do you have like a long shot that you really like on the

card? Is there, like is there a single

that you would lean on it? Is that tappet rice?

Is that like if you had the key, somebody into sequences of

temperature rise. Yes.

Absolutely I think. Okay Towers.

All right. So do you all remember where you

were when the Challenger exploded was too young, you're

too little. Am I the old man?

I think I was in like second or third grade, and we were

watching it on on TV. Yeah, we were watching TV shows

about say, yeah, like, I watch it explode and my teacher was

like, I don't think that was supposed to happen and turned

off the exactly, right? Because it has a pretty much

Happen. We all have the same experience.

Sorry. Yeah man, do you like 44 years

old then? I'm 47 actually.

So I'm Devon. Okay, great.

Yeah. So we're about the same age.

Yeah, black don't crack. This is not fair.

He looks way younger than he does.

Look like I agree with you. His stuff there, he will be on

the track feed at Tampa Bay. This we will, which is awesome.

I always look forward to those. What I love is very essentially

was like Hey you know there should be better representation

of people working on track feeds in America and Tampa Bay was

like we're gonna call your bluff called work, right?

It was great and then work out. Yeah, it's got yeah, I'm

actually grateful for that. You know, they took the chance

they knew I wasn't going to be perfect, you know, like doing it

last year and, you know, I got some pointers and, you know,

Just working together and it's doing really well, you know, and

now we got Ren that's coming out on Saturday to.

So you know, we got a team so it should be fun.

Yeah, I mean, are they put you at a desk at all?

Yes, I think we are going to be a little desert ever berries.

Fears about that? Yeah yeah they got it set up.

Was talking to beam and Margaux who basically runs the track.

She's I guess she's general manager, I guess I don't know

what, what what her title actually is, but she does

everything everything. Yeah.

She's saying they got new lights desk.

You know, camera angles and we were doing it tomorrow.

It's amazing. Actually get the tracks like

that, just like how everyone really is.

Outbreaks like a family, right? I mean, oh yeah, yeah,

especially that, because a lot of the people at Tampa funny and

action to Rockingham Park including myself.

So we a lot of the people that work there, knew each other from

80s 90s at at at Rockingham Park, even some of the tellers

are from Rockingham Park which is a wild and into me Tampa, Bay

Downs is like Rockingham Park 2.0 it's almost like the same

track. It's just slightly bigger and in

Tampa which is much better than being in New Hampshire.

There it is. You know, we've gotten, we've

gotten this similar, experience to you bury one of our launching

points for this. Show was getting to do, work up

at Horseshoe Indianapolis with Rachel, and all the folks out

there. Are it how you talk about Tampa

is how we talk about horseshoe kind of thing and yeah and it's

usually the smaller tracks. You know, that that you get that

kind of bond with everybody and you know, even at the bigger

tracks to it's just not as pronounced.

Well, you had to get through more layers to get to the, to

the family at a place like Churchill.

Right. Yeah, exactly.

So yeah, you know, like when was it on the 25th?

I was out there at Tampa and I met the owner of the track, you

know that Not happen at one of the hey, you know, it goes

stream. You don't really see Belinda

walking around out there, right? Yeah.

All right. So, it's it's 50 degrees and

we're outside, doing a show. Are we crazy?

Yes, I wore this hat for you Barry because it's 67 here,

right now. And you're angry.

And I'm mad. Yes, my legs are cold.

I don't own pants. What is the Wardrobe summer in?

Michigan mine. Yeah.

Will there be a bandana involved?

Oh, absolutely. That's okay.

It's just a matter of the Footwear and I was team was was

giving me shit earlier about it. As I go.

What's the color of the day? And I was like, I don't know

yet. So I think we're going Jordan,

still want to Jase. Yeah, man, I like the Box had,

by the way, it's looking good. Who's gonna be better?

Who's got a better season next year, the Bucks who have gotten

rid of their entire roster? Yes, or the Louisville Cardinal

basketball. Team

up here for a derby. Absolutely.

And so you can see how absolutely they, yeah.

Definitely on my bucket list. I've have you been Turtle once?

Yes, yeah, okay, probably what you come up with like Foster or

something and we'll get, your credential will hang out with

them. Went to a night program to okay?

Yeah, it was really fun. I was doing one into a

tournament at Derby Wars. So I was down with the horse

race and Nation people. Nice.

It's a good time though. Yeah, awesome.

I will, he's our man. Barry Spears.

Very thanks for coming on, man. Thanks for having me.

I like that cigar. I looked like you were enjoying

that. That are you a cigar guy?

He's in the freaking Tampa, I don't understand.

Okay, okay, all right. Okay, he's gonna go sit down

with the chickens. Have a cigar.

He bore City. They go.

Yeah, exactly. We talked about that last time,

I think, right. 27 year old Barry Spears.

We appreciate him joining. That's right.

That's right. I'm stuck at 27.

Make sure everybody knows that. Yeah.

I want to hear anything different.

We don't know what the challenge.

Lucky lady who lives. I wasn't even born yet.

Yeah. Oh no.

That is cool. He said it was a challenge of

turtles. I don't even know what they are.

All right, get him out of here. Thanks man.

Let's I know we were going to show these replays for these

folks, races. Let's just kind of talk about

how quickly this sure you don't mind.

I don't know. We got to get to the replace I

disagree. I think we should go to replace,

are you? Do you want to have like an hour

and a half show tonight? Is that what you want to do for

47 minutes? We've already talked about all

the races. We've done the handicapping.

I'll give my top picks in those races before we go on.

Then let me ask. Ask you a question because I

think it's only fair. You'll mention the to saffy

horses. In the Challenger sassy does get

ding this week, right? So he gets dinged up in

Pennsylvania. It's got a little.

Now, this is to me more. I think we've got to mention it

because again, we were mentioned every single time Africa,

distinct. These trainers, get dinged all

the time. Yep.

Saffy situation seems really, really messed up like it.

It seems like either. He is cheating at all.

Will of like extreme Heights or he is or the same plane just

really got messed up. I mean, he tested the horse

tested negative, there was no vet interaction Test - Before

the Race, no, vetted interaction tested.

Positive after the race, saffy's fighting the thing.

I'm not passing judgment on any of it.

Like I just we all I'm going to pass judgment on is that we've

got a horse racing as a sport. He's got to figure out the

process and it started with a half to start getting a little

bit more uniform. On this stuff.

What? So so fill me in a little bit

it's a painkiller, but does it have a performative function as

well? And I'm not going to try to

pronounce it. No, I'm not either in saffy said

he's never heard of the medication for.

So of course, you know that's the casino kind of thing we

heard from baffert. What would that kind of thing?

Horse Traders have no idea what medications?

There's no big rush it, but it is, it was a great too.

It was a great Stakes race. I think we've got at least

mention it saffy's trainer who's kind of up-and-coming who I

think something amazing for the He's a great guy.

It's a good interview. Yeah, great interview plus, plus

the best month, man bun chest hair combination in this.

He might have better hair than me.

He does. Yeah, asthma is in his third now

of horse racing here. So it's a fee you as muscle.

Yeah. I think that's fair.

Not me. Yeah.

Do know me, even the horse-racing?

I have that are? Yeah.

Actually I think I don't know if I do.

I have here. I'm wearing a hat.

Yeah, it's right there. Zach move into like great beards

and horse racing potentially, there's not a ton of gray

beards. Yeah, you know, so it's not a

beard sport. No really is.

Does it go with the vest? You gotta have a look that goes,

I don't know, I'll Iraq my best with my beard all the time. -

you know, that grave re Solutions best.

I want that's genetic for you because you're from.

Okay. Yeah.

Staffers from Barbados, that's different.

Did you YooHoo Demetri Martin is the community?

Of course. Yeah, he talks about, he gives

that joke about The life vest will save my life in the sweater

vest protects me from pretty girls or something like that.

Yeah, it's all good stuff. Okay, let's let's then we'll go

on to do you want to talk about? You want to show these races.

So let's let's go to the davana Dale, and look what happened?

Okay, hang on, hang on, I need you to take you to test because

I know you don't love this show anymore.

Now that you get to talk about Kentucky 20 times, that's not

false. But but I mean you and I adore

The Oaks, I love the Oaks. We We adore The Oaks and so

we're going to talk about the Oaks.

The Oaks is the only thing that has ever put me on the map with

anything. So we're definitely talking

about the oak. So let's go through these

replays. It meant was, I will have to say

I love the horse, the name of this horse.

Who won this race. Yeah, right.

Because it's we got a massive upset and the in the, the door

with Dale, I mean, the devonian tail.

So it's actually I even love the horse that came and S name.

Yeah, let's go. If I would have bet names in

this race Louis, I would have hit the exact Shout Out to ABC

Sports. By the way, for the race.

Replace. And she's taking the lead in

running away. Red carpet ready, dr.

S. Here's our big late run from

guns and braces guns and Graces is gonna get second blocks away.

The winner doors Vigor, I were high on red carpet, ready in the

show. Red, carpet-ready comes in

third, she's great at seven furlongs and not a date.

There it is. Dwarf Vader, legit Contender or

just a long shot that hit on this race.

Runner in the acorn, figure it out.

All right. Tomorrow's final turn.

All right, let's figure it out. Not run her at the talk to you

out. There you go.

North fader over the payouts on them.

Okay. So in order to J Clark $95 to

what 95 42 win 3622 Place. Good joke, it I think like two

people listening will get. Well, I got it.

I got it. She's probably listening, we

love you. Jai, we do love.

Okay, that's real. And the, the exact appearance or

940 the trifecta. Paid 1674 dollars and fifteen

cents on a dollar on the 50. Sent 3201 hell.

Yeah, Lewis people ever wonder why people about horses?

That's it, that was drinking all my Pappy.

All right. Happy birthday.

By the way, again, I think I would have had that.

I could have hit that try 100 percent voted for probably about

that travel from that the names, but Becca's name.

Let's go to the wet bush. I'll sack it is a beauty is now

in the clear check engine lights casing.

Loving the Sophia's beauty is now looming up on the

far outside. She comes.

She's a beauty is drifting but she's taking command, GWT asset

purchase she the beauty. Did we get this one again?

You called this. I was my horse and I just love

the fact that they just named asset purchase on what it was

look for real. She has for help.

Yeah. She's going to love.

Absolutely, I think we're going to find that out the interesting

path. The part about the, that New

York path, though, is all of the, and we're doing this again.

Next week. We'll have the Maryland show.

The reminder, that those paths individual states are set up for

their races black-eyed. Susan to turn race Preakness to

turn race in Maryland. I didn't really a core and a

corn. I'll do the show time Acorn one

turn And that's what all of these races are set up for, is

that one turn Mi that they do in New York for the Phillies.

And so that's why you see that here, I think she'd a booty is

right now. One of your Acorn leaderboards

for sure. I don't know.

I actually think she's gonna like to turn.

So I hope they shipper to Lexington or something else to

find out if she can do it. I think the connections will and

we'll have to see. But you wouldn't know by next

Thursday. Looks like why sir?

Thank you go back to San Felipe instead of the Senate Santa

Isabel. Next.

Next Thursday is a great day. I mean it's just an amazing day.

Talk to me. Well it's the first day of the

ancillary tournament and I don't count the first for I'll be at

your office with a little party there at the office.

Right? Told your office manager.

I'm not going to be there, just to mess with her.

Yeah, she knows, you're gonna be there.

There's free food. You'll be there.

I've been called out. So, but then you get, we got,

we're doing the little kickoff party for Derby Festival.

The festival unveiled where we unveil the poster and all that

stuff that day. Yeah, so I got to go there, I do

carry things. Listen, I think I'm actually

probably going to be showing up to the show with my pink jacket,

little pink jacket on Thursday. Yeah.

So the pink jacket will be making an appearance will be the

most dressed up I've ever been on this show.

Actually, you know what? I think I'm gonna go pink

jacket. No shirt.

The chain. If, if people have a reason to

tune into the show, it's the sex appeal.

That's right. Holly this close.

All right, let's move on to the Santa Isabel steaks.

Well, Santa Isabel on a Sunday. Mild to go and tell me, no lies

coming with a three-wide bid after phase and blessed.

Touch phaser with the green cap, just in front at the rail.

Blessed, touch running gallantly.

And tell me, no lies, just eat goes over to the rail there in

the final Furlong and it's Faisal with a to length lead and

tell me no lives into second but fayza remains undefeated.

She was fantastic, winning the Santa Isabel pulling clear in

the end phase of hurt. Sure one of the topics

contenders out there who she trained by Bob baffert.

So no points on this race and not a nose Contender because

it's March. Oh, so they are not going to

deal with her. Yeah.

What you get, not that big of a deal.

They, I mean, it's not that ownership group has made a very

obvious decision. They're sticking with with

baffert. I think she would be absolutely

one of the contenders for the the Kentucky Oaks.

She looks terrific but they are obviously going another route.

I think there's an acorn horse for you as well.

I think we saw a bunch on Saturday because We had 21 turn

preps, and then that with a trainer in Bob, baffert that

cannot run at Churchill Downs. I think you just saw three

horses that will be in the starting gate at The Acorn.

Okay there you go. That's why I wanted to show

those replays because I wanted to have that point.

Zach, let's move on from. So you're talking you one of

this whole thing about how much we love the Oaks and then we're

talking about three horses that we won't see the.

I think it's an exceptional year for lots of different reasons.

One of them that Bob baffert cannot train for the Oaks and by

the way, when we say we love the Oaks, we actually really love

the Phillies. So That's really what is the

kickoff and I actually love. I love the acorn.

I love that race. Oh that day to.

Yeah, it's great. You and I are door Belmonte for

sure. So all right but let's get this.

A little green tea or anything. Yeah.

The green she racing. Of course retracing dicom.

Go there and get your tip sheet for the weekend of course you'll

find Louise selections and there you got to pick berries in

there, this week is over here. Pick 3 S, you can turn them into

an all Stakes pick for if you want to, okay?

Not a lot of money, probably grab some of those extra horses.

Are they are you doing at Tampa or tough way?

At Tampa. Okay.

I will bet my own money. Well paper money we got about

you guys going to Turfway. So I think we'll pull money.

Do the group ticket thing? Play a couple like fifty dollar.

Pick up to the mark Blankenbaker.

Like let's all like come together?

No we're actually going to hit the tickets.

Okay. Yeah, that's different.

Yeah. Not needless was it wasn't

heedlessness. Yeah.

So all right, well let's let's talk about those.

I think we want to at least get your picture these races.

Yeah. Right.

But that we just talked about again we're going to With race

eight is the great the Challenger which is a mile on

the 16th on the dirt for four-year-olds it up.

We kind of talked about the field Louis.

Who are your selections here? Yeah it's this is the single the

weekend for me. I landed on Skippy Longstocking,

softer spot. You get irad.

This is a horse that was the morning line favorite in the

Pegasus World Cup grade 11 by our collector who we gave out on

this show. But I do think the softer spot

here for him, makes a lot more sense I read was not on during

the Pegasus. He was on, for the Harlan handy,

which was the great three at Gulfstream on New Year's Eve.

So this is essentially third up for him.

It gets a little bit of a rest here.

Was that 40 days, 45 days, something like that, which I

really like 22% for saffy Joseph.

And so I think that that's your combination there.

And if you want to include, you want to include our boy, Urban

handicapper. Barry Spears's horse in there to

include the other staff in the bit sixth.

The Reds is his horse here hack still running.

Um, that's a good question. He's gelded.

Yeah. Tax like Raven like 2016, right?

So what did he win? That was like, holy crap.

Tax won that race. Oh yeah, the handy last year.

Yeah. Yeah.

Okay. So there you go.

The single for Louis. In that race is the Challenger

taking Pippi Longstockings. Give me one sec.

Yeah, okay. Did you did you like Pippi

Longstockings growing up? Fair question.

No, I never really got into. It's really on my radar.

Yeah, I'm not against it, but it just wasn't part of little bit

more on my radar than your radar because of the red hair kind of

thing. But oh, for sure.

Yeah, when I'm going to answer, I read, I want to be.

I think that needs to be said publicly that's good because

otherwise, someone like her the house.

Yeah. You know, I like her.

All right, I have to say that. So the next race is racing on.

It is the great to Hillsboro Mile and an eighth on the turf,

four year, olds and up two. 125,000 dollars on the line

here. Horse neighing Teppan once won

this race, who tepid pretty good with the pretty good feeling?

Yeah, pretty affiliate is, this is a big girl raised, for sure.

Yeah, yeah, that's back when I was doing podcasting without

you. So, back in the Tekken days, go

ahead and tell us if you like here, everybody?

Okay? And I wasn't kidding.

When I was talking to Barry, I'm actually punching all in this

race because he mention California, queen and kind of

smiled about it. I just got a real shot here.

12:50 Edgar's ayahs who, by the way Reminds me of Tyler Gaffney

Leone earlier in his career when he was the guy at Gulfstream in

the offseason. And entered wins 18 percent of

his racist man and that's not easy to do at Gulfstream because

remember you have to run on three surfaces that's not an

easy thing to do. And those guys figure it out

down there, especially Edgard accommodation with Chad Brown

there. And how often do we say?

Oh yeah, it was the other Chad Brown.

Absolutely. The other other Chad, where are

the other saffy, right? And that's what California queen

is in this race. I'm against us, chances are in

this race only because she just hasn't won since October, 20,

21. Wow.

And that's, that's to me. So in the, she will, that be

your favorite year against She is the favorite I'm against.

Okay but just in general I mean that's a it's just a long time

between trips to the Winner's Circle and we talk a lot on this

on the show horses are pack animals, right?

Right, and sometimes you get a pack animal, that's almost won a

million dollars in horse of chances are.

I'm not saying that she can't breed well, or whatever else it

is but she's what she's run, three times the last two years

and her last race in the, in the in the Pegasus was good.

And she s off the layoff here. So I understand why people will

like her but she just doesn't Win.

And so I'm going to punch all here hoping that you get a

price. I think some of the local horses

like Scottish star picks up Luis saez for Todd Pletcher.

That horse was second, really close in the Endeavor behind

surprisingly, who's also in this race.

If one of those horses, just has a good trip figures it out.

I mean, Luis saez is, I talked about him enough, he's got a

serious shot here, I love games. Mission is really in the Peru

once in a while. Just pulls something out of his

out of his bag of tricks. I do think Temple City tear who

won three times last year. Is absolutely part of the

Equation here as well was running most recently won at

Keeneland and then one at Aqueduct.

So multiple different surfaces. We love horses that can travel

and win and so, yeah, I I would use as many horses here as you

can afford. All right?

So we're going to move on to by the way.

It's got to be said, which means chopped All-Stars gonna win by

like five lights. That Louis is making a huge

sacrifice for me today. He understands how important

this time of year from basketball tournaments, all that

is for me and typically he would be completely distracted by the

fact that I want to have a basketball games on over the,

our shoulders, while their shows going on.

So I really have, I really appreciate it.

I just wanna let you know. Alright, alright we're going to

move on to raise 10, which is the great 342 Oaks a model of 16

Turf race here, 30 Phillies two hundred thousand dollars on the

line. Who do you like in this one?

I'm using two horses here and I think you do have to use free.

Look who ran in that. Risk of juvenile fillies Turf,

and not a great show for her over that one.

Turn or the to turn. One mile course, they're at

Keeneland. That was an incredibly fast

race. Yes, 35 on the turf on that

Friday. When we were there, I like Alpha

Bella on top here just ran a Gulfstream in the beginning of

February is coming back in. Second off the layout for Todd

Pletcher, he does 21% with horses there. 22% graded Stakes,

you get Louis sighs here. I just, I think For I think four

and a half to 192 is really a fair number on her.

And so I'm going to I'm going to lean on her here on top in this

race, actually for me. So that's the favorite.

Another favorite that I'm trying to be here in free look and so

I'm just going real real skinny here, 3 and 10, but I do have

Alpha Bail on top here. Okay, so we're going to go to

the main event of the evening race 11, which is the Tampa Bay

Derby Amana 16th on the dirt. Three-year-olds obviously, if

it's a derby, 400,000, our race and we are going to Potentially

another horse that would potentially crack into that top

five for me as far as the Derby horse.

But it's really the first time Louis that we're going to see

tablet rice step up into a steaks company.

Although, I do agree with Barry that this is not the deepest

field, correct? That's right.

So, it's going to make it real interesting to me because I

would single tap, a trace here and I agree with that.

And the bigger story is going to be who wear pleasure points.

His horse is going after this. Does he You know who goes before

the Derby? Does he send one to New York to

see someone to Louisiana. We're Patricia sir wins here.

Does he sit out till the Derby? I mean, doesn't need any more

points, right. The Dolphins right.

Just put it in the Starting Gate.

Sure. That's it's obviously an option

here. It's a long way off though.

It is a long layoff and and I think it's not a good route and

we saw a horse and I know we joke about it but we watch can

gear will not run and then he gets to Churchill Downs.

He gets sick. I mean II think there's

something about keeping horses in races.

Someone that kind of 100 percent over that that is better for

them. So I agree that he's absolutely

the class here. I told you who my long shot of

the day is Prairie, Hawk 12:40, the outside horse here.

I think he'll have enough time, I love that.

It's a mile and a sixteenth and not just a mile, he'll have a

little bit more of a run-up to that first turn.

So the outside bothers me a little bit less, he is part of

the speed but if he breaks well, he has no one to his outside if

he breaks well and can get on that.

On that front pace and it's not too crazy.

For Sammy Camacho who by the way, is one of the king.

Kings of Tampa Bay, 25% winner at Tampa Bay Peppers, the board

all the time. He may not win here, Mike, but I

think there's a serious chance that he's absolutely part of the

equation. And okay, so tablet rice.

And it's not a curling Indian Charlie on the bottom and I'm

like, yes, he's bred for this, right?

And so for me, that's kind of horse.

Draw a line through the same if Davis once in a while horses,

just need that to turn experience.

He's got it three times. By the way is run, 32 turn races

at at Tampines 1 2 of them. So I think he's as obvious a 21.

Hit the board type as any here. Alright.

So he sent me Turf weight. PPS?

Are we in talking to Roy? Yeah, I want to talk to her away

because friend of the show, Roger Roger has a horse in the

Big Daddy. And it's really nice, by the way

that they named race after me. I agree.

Yeah. And that, that race sets up,

there's a 3 2, 1 2, 42 one's a 72 to a 92 in that race.

So, so, just an absolute good luck with that.

I'm going to warn everyone, his horse's name, nobody listens and

here's the problem. The connection to that horse are

going to bet like an F. Yeah, they are.

So you're not getting something to on that horse.

I'm just gonna warn you ahead of time now.

The good part. About their card.

And I think you know, you can think whatever you want about

night racing, Mike. But remember people are going to

bet Tampa and then they're going to go to Turfway after that.

Yep. Right in this race doesn't go

off until 855 they're running California time essentially.

6:00 right. Yep.

And so there's going to be a lot of money in the pool here.

So if you think there's a horse in here that you can find the

gun, it's in this race man. And he hasn't won in a long

time. He's 34, 29 lifetime.

I get, he's seven years old. He's probably not built for the

Topeka I understand, but you're going to get 15 to 1 on a gun.

It I mean do you really trust? Hear me song?

Who ran second last time out in the in the forego it's halfway.

I mean maybe is candy over lowered.

Really going to be, you know, is he going to go back to back or

Katie overload? Excuse me for low machado's

really fine jockey at their hits board like crazy from our

Cassie. I just for me Mark cassia

Turfway isn't whom are Cassie is in Florida Orient.

Atwood my knees and 8% he's 1412 kind of trainer there so that's

a play against for me. Me, I just think in that race,

for example, you just got a lot of options and it's something

that, you know, it's a race that you can find some value in.

Obviously, the winners going to be Detroit City who's coming in

from Florida because I was born in Saint John's hospital.

He said, Detroit and your birthday, it'll be my birthday.

All right, so happy birthday, hope you enjoy and Zack.

Thanks again for a great show doing all the things you're

doing. She tracing the body cam.

I got to pick threes in there. You can throw Well, too much

about their policies. You could get, you could turn

those to pick 3, S into about a 14 dollar base pick for.

Yep. So play for a buck and a half

play for three bucks. What?

Like that. If you want to try to especially

because if you know, if you get the chalk especially in the

derby with tap it twice, you're going to need to play it more

than once to go. Yeah.

And about yeah the good thing about Tampa by the way, win

place. Show bet, 17% take out.

Pic first pic 3 is 18 percent. Okay, very playable.

Yeah, five is a 15% wager. But I think 18 to play less

races is a very, very attractive type of.

Take out Carolina. Had this thing down to a

three-point game now, and then we're gonna get blown by the

way, Carolina's done, right, by the way, I think so.

By the way, this was, this is for Virginia and excellent win

because everyone in that building is wearing baby blue.

Oh, yeah, right. Greensboro me?

Yes, that's what I'm saying. So, this is a, not a road win,

but it's a 90% Road win and they haven't Saying goodbye, they

have the playing with the mask. So this is a big win for them

and and Carolina needed it. I mean they needed this win big

time and there's Tony Bennett for you in college coaches.

Well he's a defensive guy so that goes a long way and his dad

was great and you know I he's definitely undervalued you know

but he's you know he's a top low.

He's the top ten guy project. Okay?

Yeah. Yeah he might even be supporting

this bill self top sport. If he's now got to be I mean I

think, you know, with all the guys I have just recently left

and Bill self's the guy who can get it done.

Mark Few has definitely got up there as well.

To just I love the approach that Mark you just has the game, he

doesn't trade bigger than it is, you know, everyone he could have

left a long time ago, he's big, he likes where he is and

Spokane. Go fly-fishing, do all his

things right there and you know what the sound that Chris beards

come to the SEC, it's going to be things interesting next year,

especially with Texas have been a great time in the SEC rights.

Weirds Goin Ole Miss, it's going to be really intense, you know,

we talked about whether or not we like our local coaches here

and but again it's trying to figure out who that next level

who's going to be next. And I think Arizona is got a

good one with Mark Hughes assistant.

Who I can't. His name is completely blank.

Me oats obviously doing probably.

Yeah Tommy. Well yeah there's on yeah he's

terrific. You know what?

And you know give some credit to Mick Cronin and I think a lot of

people thought, oh, I know what do you see it later?

Thought he was going to fall on his face, he couldn't be the LA

God, he's, he's crushed. Are my pick right now?

Interesting? Yeah.

Yeah. Gritty men.

Yeah. Great travels in the tournament

to write. Absolutely does exact jump on

here. I need to make a show

announcement. Confirmed this week this week

yesterday. Dennis, 'l coming for Derby.

It is, yes. Well, I'm credentialing him

through the station, so that I don't have to worry about it, by

the way. He's also de nesle.

And if Dan right here, I don't look like no, like I don't know

what's that do to our status? And so by the way, by the way, I

want to say. Yeah.

Dan Issel, first-ever credential for anything was the Breeders

Cup at Keeneland? Yeah.

Okay. Horse racing.

Happy hour. Yeah.

Second credential, ever, Kentucky Derby with annual going

to be doing the show at their Thursday and Friday for.

Well, you'll do your Friday show for Oaks.

Is that where will those day? So we haven't set all of that

yet. Yeah, Thursday, we will be out

for 30. Okay, no question, probably 22,

no question. You should be Zach will be up

Zach usually flies in Wednesday and then we will have Dan for

all those days and then Friday is TBD.

But Saturday, we will absolutely be doing a show.

It will either be 11 to 1 or 12 to 2 and Yeah.

And by the way, I'm Horse Racing Radio Network.

I appreciate you guys being the lead in to us.

Yeah, but I'll be working. Yeah, I'll be working at noon.

Love it so and we have a good time out there and then we get

to hang out with all the other radio personalities out there

and all the coastal guys who come in there.

Like, you can smoke here. Yeah, you can smoke a

stretched-out. Yeah, I like the local radio

guys that are out there though. Yes, I will say that.

The worst thing about our podcast is that when we have

celebrities, like, Dan Issel, you guys are too short to get a

good shot. My favorite is my favorite

picture is, is like and Dan sitting and be standing between

them. And it's like I said, you're

still only one head above because that's a nice about me.

Like I'm tall, but I got a long torso.

So, like when I'm sitting down this on, I probably don't look

that much gear, right? Yeah, yeah.

But I'm excited to have Dan and he it's it's rare.

I mean that that I've gotten to become friends with Dan Issel is

screw you. Both ways.

No danis. I get it.

But it's wild, right? It's great and dance.

Been such a great asset for the show.

Graphical games. This is a total humblebrag.

If you want to get that cash a great and I'm texting Dan Issel

and Derek Anderson in the middle, so that's great.

Yeah, it's fantastic. You know, dance, great for the

show, he really understands the podcast and, you know, the

shirtless Dan Issel Zach's, right?

I mean, it's top like all time. Three podcast moment, the

history of mankind. Well, I would say that he was

excited about it. Oh yeah, I wasn't like, oh I'm

gonna do this because these young guys are funny.

It was like, hey guys, I'm taking my shirt off and we're

all like, yeah, alright, well we'll get out of here.

We'll catch you next time on the horse racing.

Happy hour. time, open all the doors and let

you

Horse Racing Happy Hour
