Am wager.com. A very good week to you Sir.
Happy Friday. Nice hat.
Where'd you get that? I I found it.
I have great news if you were watching it.
Saw me in my Gray one last week. This week I wanted to blind
everyone with my baldness, but the Berry is wearing an AM Wager
hat. We will have those available for
giveaways in the coming week, so make sure you're following at
Amwager on the socials so that you can get in on our giveaways
here. Of course, we're heading out to
Santa Anita. It is.
It is a beholder mile day out there.
We'll start with Race 1, Barry, as we do every single week.
It is a $25,000 claimer for Florida.
We're going to mile in an eighth.
I love it. Oh my God, just give me these,
give me these longer turf races on any card at all.
I thought one and looking at our handicapping, you and I landed
on the same top 2. So potentially a place to go a
little bit Skinner here. Where'd you land in the opener?
The lid lifter, if you will. Santa meet on Saturday.
Yeah, no surprises here. You know, as, as I like to say,
they had to put some race first, right?
So this was the one and and it's pretty straightforward.
I, I landed on #7 on top Dealer Special, his last race fits very
well with these horses. There's really no surprises.
I, I, I think this race is going to be fairly run straight up.
There's enough speed for that horse to, to get a good even
trip. And and I think dealer Special
is the goods in this spot. Yeah, I, you and I landed on the
five and the seven essentially I, I landed in the opposite
order. I'm taking the 1 landing in the
Mathis barn here. First off, the claim here.
And this is what Andy Mathis does really well at 32% in
claimers recently at San Anita. And so for me, this is a, I'm
playing the odds here. If I can get slightly longer
than a six to five, you know, with the preps at Tampa, we're
not going to have a Flavian Pratt out West, right?
So this is an opportunity, frankly to get some value on
some other guys that are good riders of Hector Berrios when
you get 18% this meet since December 26th at Santa Anita
stands out to be he and Andy Mathis combining on Andrea and
and ready to rumble. Excuse me, easy for me to say
how to start SoCal Friday here. I landed on the eighth in the
third spot here. Barry, if we wanted to try to
fill out say an exacta or a trifecta in this spot.
This is a horse that's trying turf for the first time.
But I like in here that this is a Catalina cruiser, a Giant's
Causeway. We've seen some of those giant
causeways especially be great on the turf before and this is one
that ran well at Los Alamitos. We see so often, Barry, in the
Southern California thing that horses move from the turf to Los
Al and vice versa. Very, very well.
First, turfers for John Sadler win at 17% and that dirt to turf
percentage is 12%. So this just feels like a spot.
It makes a bit of sense. Second off, the layoff etcetera
for Battle Cruiser. If you were trying to fill out a
try, who'd you land on? Yeah, I went with number 46
Magpies I I think that the drop in class will make all the
difference to have this horse in the picture. 8 to one seems
logical in here, so we go with the 754 straight up.
There you go, 6 Magpies are ridden by Thiago Pereira.
Solid 15% to start this meet as well.
Race 2 at Santa Anita on the dirt this time. 6 1/2 furlong
Sprint here. A a starter optional claimer,
38,000 in the Kitty, $50,000 claiming price for those who
have never started for a claiming price of $50,000 or
less. I don't think anyone's actually
in for the tag here. Barry, where did you land?
Oh yeah, excuse me, the the four horse here at six to one Armando
I used. So we're seeing that day more
and more as we do our handicapping.
Where did you land in Race 2? Unmute yourself, brother.
There we go. Come on, come on.
People want to hear you. Unmute yourself.
I'm trying to do like 5 things and I can't even get you to
unmute your mom. I'm the.
Worst I I I admittedly the worst at that, but I I did go with the
horse that is in for the tag. The four Someone Like You.
I think this horse merits another shot on the dirt.
I thought that run was pretty good for first time on the dirt
and should improve off of that. That being said, there's not any
world beaters in this race. I know the six Mayakama will
will get a lot of attention, but honestly they kind of fit in the
same category and one's going to be a longer price and and I'll
take the four. Yeah, Armando Ayusto now hitting
at 10%. He's gone over the double digits
number. He was in the 8-9 kind of range
before. I think we lose track here,
Barry, once in a while of oh, the horse is in for the tag.
They're trying to whatever. No, it's not that right.
It's it's just that they hit the condition in a very specific
way. And I I wouldn't, I wouldn't be
surprised if the four does jump up and win here.
I was trying to find value as well.
I think the one in running superhero Edwin Maldonado off of
for Vladimir Serin, one last stop, finally breaking that
maiden at the maiden 45 level. And so this was a horse that
that bounced around in the maiden claiming rankings for a
long time, but was has been really good on the last two out.
Both of those going six 6 1/2 furlongs, last one on the dirt.
So getting back to the dirt for this one and staying there.
I just think for the price, I'll go ahead and take that horse who
ran a 117 and 1 / 6 1/2 last time.
I mean, the favorite in here is coming out of a maiden 20 win by
a billion lengths. That's Coastal Cowgirl, the two
under Antonio Fresu. That horse ran the same, almost
identical time as Running Super, and I'm gonna get one for 4 1/2
to one and one for less than two to one.
No, no, hard pass there. I'll run on.
I'll I'll give Running Super a try here.
Yeah, I I gave that horse a try in for 3rd.
I actually threw out the favorite just for the reasons
you you exclaimed. I mean that was a $20,000 maiden
race running super was in a 45,000 maiden race and and doing
well in those kind of races. Finally broke through last time.
I think the improvement is there more so than a horse like
Coastal Cowgirl who is OK, had one really good race and that's
it. So I, I, I would say as a, from
a consistency standpoint, you know what you're gonna get from
running super rather than the favorite coastal cowgirl.
Yeah, we'll move. On to Race 3.
Again, we're presented by amwageramwager.com.

A $30,000 claimer here at 6 1/2 furlongs in the Turf shoot for
$36,000 in the purse. Phillies and Mares 4 and up in
this one, Barry. And look, I got really boring in
here. I landed on gem mine for Thiago
Pereira, the five to two favorite here in for the tag, of
course, ran I thought well enough last out in a starter
allowance to drop into this kind of level where she's won before.
And so this is a six year old mayor 1-2 back on the turf going
downhill, but ran well enough last time out, Barry, that I
feel pretty confident in her sliding back into this kind of
company. I'll take Jem mine on top here
for Taco Pereira. Yeah, I, I'm throwing one
downfield here. I went with #4 strange addiction
and I think this horse will will get a way better trip than than
she's basically been getting. I I think the reversion back to
the turf makes all the difference.
This horse's 5 furlong races on the Flat, 5 furlong at Delmar.
That was a pretty good race back in September and getting another
crack at it seems to make a lot of sense.
The cutback, you know, 6 furlongs last time, 6 1/2 on the
dirt, then going back to the turf makes all the sense in the
world and kind of ran better on the turf.
I think was a little overmatched in those starter allowance races
gets back with his friends or her friends and I think that
will be kind of the effective move and you're getting a price.
I I I expect to get all of that 15 to one, if not more than
that. There's a quite a bit of speed
signed on. So I think this just really sets
up pretty good for a horse like that.
Yeah, I'm I'm my other longer shot would be the seven here.
You get Juan Hernandez on a six to one shot here in for the
price trying the turf for the first time.
And and to me this is interesting because it's it this
is a horse entering Jeff Mullins barn for the first time.
And he immediately takes this horse, which has 10 lifetime,
starts all of them on the dirt and places her straight on the
in a spreading situation out of that turf chute there at Santa
Anita. He has now four for his last
seven. First off the claim, his first
turfers have won three of their last 12 and 2nd off the layoff,
he hits at a solid 20%. So I just I think all the
numbers match up there. Obviously you get a Juan
Hernandez. The two of them are hitting at
38% together. I think the six to one price
here Barry feels like a gift. Yeah, I, I include this source
for 3rd as well, just for the same reasons that Mullins claims
this horse and immediately puts his horse on the turf, which
exudes a little bit of confidence as as to what they
really want this horse to do. And again, these horses are are
win challenged most of them. I know Special Flower doesn't
really have the born loser kind of moniker yet, but isn't
towering over this field either. So there's a lot of opportunity.
Yeah, special flower, the six in here, the obvious and probably
worthy morning line favorite as well at 9:00 to 5:00 one at the
maiden 25 level last time. We'll try the maiden 30 level, I
think for trainer Doug O'Neill. That's a good move by the way, I
do think that she fits this level better than she did the
maiden special and and open company kind of levels that he
had or had before as well. So moving on to race for a
maiden optional 62 five. How about that?
Love seeing these kinds of races in here.
This reminds me Barry of the I think Oaklawn ran a $200,000
optional claim. Yes, they do a lot actually.
Funny enough there's non 1 is a two $200,000.
Yeah, I'd love to see if anybody gets claimed out of those.
I remember being at Churchill one day and a group was was
claiming $100,000 maidens and a guy grabbed like four of them.
I I don't know the outcome of that, but my guess is since I
don't I don't remember the outcome.
It wasn't great. So there you go.
I like these races just as an option for, you know, protecting
horses, protecting owners, that kind of thing where you probably
have a pretty good horse, but not a maiden special kind of
horse. I like these kinds of
conditions. We're going 6 furlongs on the
turf here. This is for a Phillies that are
three years old that have started for a claiming price or
were sold at auction for less than $150,000.
So essentially lots and lots of different horses.
The person here is $40,000. I'll let you go first here.
Barry, you and I landed again in the on the same top two horses.
Yeah, my top pick would be maximum gold with. 5 to one is I
mean on this horse in this field is a terrific price.
Yes. And then that, that's really the
attractor here. I like to bet horses that have
run at a higher level drop down off the layoff, run good And
then second time is when they really, really get a grip on
everything and and and typically run lights out.
Maximum gold fits that description to AT especially
coming out of a race where a lot of these horses were running in
anyway. The only other horse that I'd
say might stand a chance given that scenario would be the five
sexy. Just a new shooter in a race
where you know these horses kind of beaten up on each other one
time already. The new face kind of stands out.
And then we'll go to the four who should be closing late at a
big price, kind of the round out the top three.
Yeah, in the Doug O'Neill barn in California now after starting
her career at Turfway Park in the O'Neill Barn up here at My
Way where it is in the 40s. Barry, I, I, man, I wanted to do
this show outside so badly today.
And, and I just, I, I've never gotten pooped on by weather as
bad as this year. It's just unbelievable.
I mean, it's just, it's just a remarkable thing to put up with
this weather over and over and over again.
And then I look up and I see a headline and they're like, guess
what? Arctic storm coming again.
You, you jerk. And it's like, come on, just
give me anything but this. I'd be OK.
Like anything other than that would be fine.
Happy Sue, of course, did finish right behind maximum gold in
their last race. Totally agree about sexy.
I think that's a horse named after us.
But also, you know, Mark Blatt, of course, waiting at 14%, those
first time starters, he and Edwin Maldonado hitting at a
stupid 30% right now as well. So I think the one in five stand
out to me. If Happy Sue won this race, the
three, I wouldn't be stunned by it either.
Closing out the early pick five and starting the all turf pick
three, which of course you can bet at Amwager right now.
It's a three dollar base and 15% take out.
Totally totally playable and one of the very best ROI type of
bets on the West Coast. Starts in this race and is a
$25,000 claimer with a $30,000 purse for non 2 lifers going a
mile on the turf course there. Phillies and mares for and up.
I'll start here. Barry, you and I laid similar
horses again. I do think the favorite in here,
the nine step it out because of her running style because she is
an early runner will be able to overcome the outside post in
this race and be just fine under, under.
And Barry Rizpoli who really is going to benefit especially in
the grass races that Pratt and Tori are both in Tampa this
weekend. And so for me, I'm looking at
Saturday's card as an opportunity for Roberto Rispoli
to pick off a bunch of turf races, especially at this kind
of level, Barry, where you know, as long as you ride the horse
and give it a great chance to win, if you have the best horse,
you're going to win the race, right?
It's not like a stakes race where there's that kind of
right. You got at least you're giving
your horse a 5050, whatever it might be.
I feel that way about stepping out.
If you went single in the first part of the sequence, this would
probably be my single. Yeah, see, I I don't have much
confidence in the source as you do.
Just the fact that this horse is dropping all the way down to
25,000 in for the tag gives me calls for pause, especially
since there's some speed in here as well.
Corporal Violet, Nadia or Nada has a lot of speed.
Probably the seven sparkles sweetly sweetly should probably
go for the lead as well. So there there's a little bit
signed on here and I don't think the nine really wants to rate at
all. And that leaves me to my pick
the four auditory. I think this horse merits to sit
a great trip. Seems to be a a slightly better
horse on the turf, which is good and and should get the run of
the race. Whether you know she's good
enough to win or not is another story, but I have a lot of
confidence in Miyati making this move.
There you go, Steve and the audio, of course, picking this
one up 15% on horses coming off of just over a month long
layoff. This horse will be off about 6-7
weeks coming in to this one. Again, we're presented by
amwageramwager.com. Get in with our friends over
there. Look, it's about a platform
designed by horse players, 4 horse players, speed, power, top
tier features that got all of it for you over there.
And of course, that 100% deposit batch up to $150.00.
You need an edge. You need am wager am wager.com.
We move on to race 6 out there at Santa Anita Park.
It is an optional claimer, 6 furlongs on the dirt there.
This is 19 five in the purse. This is one of those races
they've set up at Berry. We've had really good success in
these races since we started this show for the Northern
California shippers. You'll see a lot of Pleasanton
in Sacramento and those kinds of things in the past performances.
We're starting to see more and more at the top of these past
performances. Barry SA as these horses make
their career move to Southern California.
I like a couple of longer shots in here.
I think this is kind of a fun race where if you wanted to take
a swing, you really could. I landed on Seize the Image, the
seven horse here, 12 to one for the Rondan Bautista combination.
This one last out finished about four and a half out, excuse me,
2 1/2 out in fourth position behind a bunch of other runners
in this race. And while I would like to think
that everyone just runs back to their normal form and does all
those very normal things in horse racing at this level, it
very rarely happens. And so this is one that is one
at the $8000 claiming level, that kind of thing as son,
excuse me, a daughter in this case of Southern Image.
I think at 12 to one, it's worth it to take a swing in this race.
Where did you land in our Norcal Socal race?
Unfortunately I am not going to be as creative as you are.
I thought the top two horses were were standouts here,
especially the 8 coming off that last win and it wasn't even that
good. And it just sets up this horse
to run better this time. The same scenario they got last
time and I think this horse blows the doors off him.
Honestly I think this is the most likeliest winner on the
card. Is Twilight Empire the 8th?
So in a in a pick whatever situation, that's my single.
There you go, his single is the 8.
I do see the five on your handicapping as well.
Billy Anti Georgie gets the amount here.
Finished third last out in a claimer at Fresno.
Comes in fresh on this one. I'm interested to see if Tessa
can get back to some of that good form.
The O for five on dirt, but three second place finishes.
Maybe this is the kind of company that horse could
breakthrough on. But Barry single for the day.
There you go, Twilight Empire Race 6 at Santa Anita as we move
on to the late pick 5 already. My goodness, we'll be Race 7
here on the card at Santa Anita Park.
Maiden 32, five and a half furlongs on the dirt.
This for three-year old maidens and so early in their three-year
old career here in for the tag. Barry.
Did you like a logger shot in this one by chance?
Absolutely, we're throwing one downfield.
We're going to go with #8 breaking desire.
There's a lot of things to like, you know, a this horse is in the
George Parabon barn. As you know, I love betting his
first time starters, as does a lot of people.
Yeah. But not enough because this is
ROI is kind of high in this area.
So I'll take that. I like that last workout on
March 1st at Santa Anita 48 and one Handley out of gate.
It's not the longest, fastest gate work, but it's definitely
one of the better ones closer to the race.
Not the absolute best, but this horse has some pedigree.
There's a lot of precociousness. There's some siblings that have
won either first or second time out and I think this one fits
the bill. It it looks like this horse is
pretty quick. We'll have to see.
I'll put it to the test at 15 to one for sure.
You and I landed on the same horse here, which is very
interesting in this spot and a lot of it is the Jorge Parabon
angle for me, and I'm with you. He's so bear.
I love this that he's four for his last 14 with first time
starters. All of those were in maiden
claimers. So cut the number of races in
half, but keep the total number of wins.
So four wins, 7 starts at the maiden claiming level at the
first time starter, 27% overall in those maiden claimers.
And so this to me just screams the kind of race that he picks
off. And so I I'm with you man.
There are some other ones in here that make a ton of sense,
but the 8 landed on top for me. I went 8910 here.
I do think code breaker. I love a second time starter
Barry because if you watch a horse, either jog through the
exercise or figure it out late in their first run.
I think there's always a chance that they're better the next
time that they come out. Maiden special or excuse me,
Maidens for Dean Peterson, the trainer here do win and mean
claimers 1/4 of the time, which is a good enough number for me.
He wins at 30% on the dirt as well.
Obviously trying to kid his footing underneath him more at
the San Anita kind of level. But man, give me give me that
horse as well. And then General Jackson on the
outside. I'm more hoping that the cutback
in distance is the thing here for this horse, Son of Maximus
Mischief and into Mischief son. Of course, I'm hoping for Doug
O'Neill. This is a move from route to
Sprint, which he does at 14%. That makes sense.
So I went 8910. Here, Yeah.
I mean, you got to have to hope that the 10 does wake up a bit
because those two races since getting off the turf weren't as
good. But this source can turn it
around at any point. You know, Doug O'Neill likes to
put horses in kind of spots like this, and this horse could be
still learning. So I I wouldn't discount that
one at all. But I thought the two favorites,
the four and the nine, were real logical in this spot, especially
the four. You know, getting that class
relief might be all the difference.
There you go. We move on to race eight.
Start of the late Pick 4 here at Santa Anita Park.
It's the Beholder mile, the grade one on the card today.
Obviously, we're going a mile. This is for Phillies and Maris,
4 and up. Man, oh, man, a $300,000 race
here in Southern California. We see the return of Ricci
Cavalieri and two year old champ Hoosier Philly in here as well.
Barry, I'm not going to make the case for Hoosier Philly like I
did when she was a 2 year old Philly, but it's nice to see her
still racing. You know, I was talking on my
radio show this morning with Ren Carruthers and we were talking
about Skippy Long Stocking and he's 9 for 29 lifetime.
He's going for a three peat in his race this weekend.
I think it's the chat. That's not the challenger, it's
the. Yes.
It's a challenger. OK, good.
And so just how how how much we take for granted these like if
he's 10 for 30 after this weekend with a bunch of grated
stakes and 3rd the Pegasus and like, like, don't we love those
horses? Aren't those our favorites?
I mean, like our what else should we want from somebody?
You know, so it's nice. Yeah, I love betting against
them. That's that's really where I go
with it. I love betting against them,
sure, but. It's nice to have those horses
around. It's nice to see a horse race 30
times this kind of stuff, right? It's it's fun to get to, you
know, watch them grow up this way.
The, you know, reaching 13th lifetime race, 18th lifetime
race for the daughter of Intermischief Hoosier.
Philly in this one. Where'd you land by?
This this race really kind of it.
It seems straightforward. Obviously Bob Baffert has, has
all the cards here, but I think Cavallari is just the good I, I
think we're going to get a replay of the La Canada and I
think it's, it's just Cavallari and Alpha Bella all the way
around again with a little Tarifa for 3rd.
And then there it is. I I mean it seems as
straightforward as it looks on paper.
Cavallari is going to dominate upfront and Alpha Bella is just
going to come up behind second. It's interesting, neither of us
landed on Tarifa and we've I've watched at least a couple of
times Godolphin take swings of grade ones with Brad Cox
trainees and they it just doesn't seem to travel well.
It doesn't seem to work out that way.
Would I be stunned if Tarifa wins this race, Barry?
The answer's no. I wouldn't be.
She's very classy, she's very good.
But I'm with you. I think this is the I think this
is the Bob Baffert Invitational with Cavalieri.
I think that Juan Hernandez is going to set her up either in
first or second. I as far as the pace itself,
it's going to be her and Ricci up front, right?
But really Ricci spends a lot of her races in second or third
position. It might be Alpha Bella that's
that's closer to the front and this one I'm not sure, but
Tarifa at least has a chance to walk the field if Mike Smith can
get the lead and keep the lead. So that's an interesting angle
here. But I'm with you.
I think in the Grade 1 beholder mile here I do think it's called
Balieri that is the one to beat. Yeah, yeah.
It's, it seems too obvious here. And you know, everybody knows
that Bob Everett has all the good horses out there.
I mean, if Ricci won, it wouldn't surprise anybody, but
it it just seems like Cavallari's the goods and and
the one that they want to win. Yeah, who's your Philly?
Of course, coming in out of the Houston Ladies Classic of Grade
3 where she finished second to recharge.
Unfortunately for her, many horses better than that in this
race. On Saturday, we move on to Race
9. It will start the late pick
three. Another great at stakes here is
the San Simeon. Barry and I have expressed our
affection for the downhill turf course and they will run on that
in the San Simeon. It's a great $300,000 here. 4
year olds enough I thought. An interesting one.
Very frankly more interesting than that beholder mile I landed
on the 8:00 here in the San Simeon Mucho Del Oro.
Yes, this is the favorite, but this is also a horse has 1/2 of
his lifetime race as a 7 year old gelding here on the turf. 9
for 18 lifetime, 5 for 8. Going down the hill as well, to
me just makes too much sense in the spot.
I will say this, this is a horse that tried the Gulfstream Park
Turf Sprint last time. They're shipping back with this
horse. We just watched me, Armando
Ramon, do the same thing for the Pegasus and it did not go well
for him. So if you wanted to try to beat
Mucho Del Oro in this spot, it wouldn't be based on past
runnings or performances or anything at Santa Anita Park.
It would be on that for me, Barry.
And so if people wanted to make the case against, I would listen
to it all day. But for me, just too good at
Santa Anita. Yeah, I mean, that's definitely
a thought. However, you know what happened
the last race, He didn't, he didn't get out well, there was a
lot going on. And then draws outside here.
I don't, I don't even know if that's the best place to be.
There's there's some other speed in here, namely the one charged
for gold, Sorrento Sky, who's a formidable foe that will be kind
of vying for the lead. I think this trip falls into or
this race falls into the hands of Air Force Red, especially
coming on the quick turn around from last week running in the
Kilro Mile. Didn't run a step, really sort
of stalked and and just got beat by a bunch of better horses.
And this race kind of fits a lot better for Air Force Red than
that one down the hill. Seems to be a better trip for
this horse all the way around and doesn't need the lead.
So this horse would probably stalk a really fast pace and get
first run. I think that that will do it.
And Air Force Red. If we get 8 to one I'll be
extremely happy. Seven day turn around.
Leonard Powell did win his last attempt doing that.
We see that in some of these races, Barry, where there is,
you know, a triple digit kind of or a six digit, I should say,
excuse me, kind of purse and these kinds of things.
You know, I always think of Kentucky Downs as one of those
places where someone tries to start a horse on the first day
and on the last day, something like that.
And guess what? Horses win a lot.
It's OK to start your horse a couple times if they're in good
form. And I'm with you once in a
while, Barry. You know, I think we overthink
what the trainers are trying to accomplish.
And in this case, it's very clear.
Leonard Paul just thinks he has a very informed horse who's
ready to go, right. And, and and so I'm with you.
I don't hate that pick at all, frankly.
I did land on the 8. Like I said.
Serrano Skye, I totally agree with you, is going to be part of
it as well. Is anarchist as interesting and
inclusion in this as I think he is?
Because Rand in the Saint Simeon Second, by the way, two years
ago, has not been back on the downhill turf since.
Boy, oh boy, I think that was the last time running a bunch on
the dirt. Of course, the only time trying
the turf was in this race. Ramon Vasquez gets the mount
here. He's back in Southern California
for the day. Interesting one there because I
think you're going to get every single bit of six to one on
anarchist. I'll just be interested to see
where he ends up. Yeah, I I hope so, actually.
I mean, this horse loves to finish second and I don't see
why this horse wouldn't finish second on Saturday.
Kept good company but just doesn't win.
And, and I think that it's it's a habit at this point and
putting this horse behind the four seems to make all the sense
in the world. Race 9 starts the late double
there at Santa Anita Park. Of course, the late double is a
$5 minimum. They took that from the golden
hour wagers that they used to offer out in California and now
applied it simply to the late double at Santa Anita Park.
Barry and I big fans of that wager for sure going a mile on
the dirt course there. It's an optional claimer,
$50,000 price for non twos. 67,000 in the purse here, Barry.
We're seeing more and more of this, by the way, where Santa
Anita stacking the late part of the cards with these higher
level allowance races and these kinds of things will close with
an optional claimer as well. Where did you land in this one?
This is an interesting field because I, I, I think that
while, you know, I landed on the five at 9:00 to 2:00 and it's
Juan Hernandez and whatever and we're getting off the turf and
trying the other thing, what we're getting off the turf and
trying something different. And that's that's nine to two.
I mean, it's an interesting race, right?
Yeah, absolutely. There's a lot of horses doing a
lot of different things. You got a horse like None Above
the Law, just running in pretty good stakes company for a long
time drops into this spot and you have a horse like Eagles
Flight who's basically just started his career and looks
like the best horse in this race.
I, I, I really aren't, you know, I'm not trying to get too
creative. I, I like both of those runs,
especially the one against winners going a mile.
This horse has already proven to me to be better than a lot of
these horses. So there's only really like a
couple to beat the five and the six, namely.
And if that horse can beat those two horses, it's a wrap there.
You go. I think the eight on the outside
is interesting too. Did take 10 attempts to break
his maiden, the son of Omaha Beach in Santa Reyna.
I was interested because Barry watching this horse try the turf
didn't work. Try the dirt for 2nd place
finishes before finally breaking through.
I'm only interested because I I think going sprints around is
something that Mark Glad does incredibly well. 27% but just
all of the numbers sort of seem to match up for this one.
And I think because of what you just said and what you just
described, I think the price could be a lot more than three
to one on this horse. I think at least nine to two,
maybe a 5 to one kind of number on the 8 on the outside.
So if you're looking for a longer shot to hit that double,
maybe that is where you would look.
The double, of course, leads into the finale, which is race
11, a six furlong Sprint there on the flat ground in the turf.
Shoot Optional claimer for non 2, $20,000 claiming price
$67,000 on this. It is a Cal bred race.
Cal sired or Cal bred in this case.
We got lonesome Stew in here at 3:00 to 2:00.
I agree that that's a worthy favorite word.
You land, buddy. I landed on the two.
We're throwing one downfield. Chrome Flash at 12 to one has
some races on the flat course that will win this race a little
bit shorter or, you know, at 5 furlong race.
But I I think the races on the Flat are just better.
And that goes a long way at Santa Anita because there,
again, like I said last week, two different races, the six
furlongs versus 6 1/2 and you'll get these horses that kind of
crossover and do that sort of thing.
But it seems like Chrome Flash likes the Flat better.
She would get a great trip. There's there's a certainly
enough speed in here for this to sit behind, including the one
lonesome Stew. This horse could really just
kind of trail that one around and take over and and and win
this thing. I don't think lonesome Stew is
going to get the same kind of easy trip you got last time.
So that's that's kind of the notion of betting against that
one plus the rail, which whenever there's favorites on
the rail, I like betting against them anyway.
I landed on a long shot right next to your long shot in second
spot in Piper's Causeway. Hear me out on this one.
It's going to take a minute, but this is a horse that runs really
well in those sprints at Los Alamitos.
And I've I've talked a lot on the show about the, the, the,
the surface at Los Ale working well with the turf surface,
especially at Santa Anita. This horse, though, has one
sprinting both on synthetic and on dirt 2 seconds in four turf
sprints lifetime, including one at Santa Anita down the hill
before that ran fifth by two lengths under Roberto Rispoli in
a six for long Sprint at this level before.
So while I don't think this horse is necessarily your
winner, Barry, I would not be stunned at all to see this horse
in second or third spot. Yeah, not bad.
I, you know, I'll mention another long shot who I I think
might stand a chance just because this horse is versatile.
Yeah, the four getting on the turf for the first time has the
running style to be kind of wherever this horse wants to be.
It's just a matter of of betting on whether you think this horse
will like the turf or not. I'd be willing to give this
horse a shot at 12:50 and probably you should get a lot of
that 12:50. Mike Pipey does very well
putting horses on the grass first time.
I wouldn't count this one out. Yeah, as you mentioned, 1st turf
23% in his most recent runners. I think the 10's interesting in
here as well. Shorter price on this one at 7
two in double jab with Armada, Yusuf, Randy Mathis.
The speed figures all make sense.
The horse was right there. The last two out one before
going down the hill before a disqualification move this horse
away from frankly from this would not have been able to run
in this condition, Barry. So that you know, this is a
horse that's right there as far as the the very top of this,
whatever this level is as far as the optional claimers.
And so this daughter of Ronsky or son of Ronsky, excuse me, I I
think has a real shot as well, man, Tampa Derby tomorrow as
well. I think we should probably just,
you know, for this crowd at least you may, you don't
necessarily have to give a pick here, Barry, but do you have a
horse you're watching tomorrow? I think Hill Rd's a really
interesting 1, you know, comes over from Europe, runs really
well in the Breeders Cup, Juvenile, moves to the Chad
Brown barn. We saw him and Tyler, who are on
this horse connect with domestic product last year.
I think that's the horse I'm watching tomorrow.
Obviously with Patch Adams, Chancellor Mcpatrick, with Owen
Almighty. It's a loaded race.
Yeah, it's a very good race, better than in recent years.
Although the field's smaller, the quality is up.
I'd say I like Patch Adams quite a bit.
Ran a winning race in the Southwest, was just a little bit
short. He's ready.
There you go. Of course.
