Any luck and ask it this week? None 0 zilch.

You know those straight races are, are real difficult.

It's hard to tell when they push the button when they don't.

If look at replays it's it's difficult to say the least.

I I actually do better at Australia than I would in the

UK. Yeah, I, I think, you know,

they, they showed Ron Winchell from Kentucky Downs at Ask It

this Week and Kentucky Downs could run straight line sprints

if they had a second finish line just past.

And I hope he's not watching because I don't want it.

Like now I'm with you. No one in Kentucky, Dallas, they

can just put up 300K for like an 80 K claimer, you know, that

kind of thing. And a bunch of British horses

would ship in for it. But I, I don't, I don't need it

in my life, Barry, because I need to bet on these things and

I need horses to turn for me to have any.

Yeah. Left or right, it doesn't even

matter. Yeah, or be a Quarter Horse

race. I'm down with that too.

It'd be all right. But yes, Barry Spears, Louie

bro, hanging out with you. It is So Cal Saturdays, thanks

for making us part of your weekend.

We do move to Los Al for the Los Angeles County meet which always

makes me smile. Barry, as we move to Orange

County for this one. Yeah, why wouldn't it?

I mean, it's it's. A horse.

Race lovely place. It's, you know, I, I do miss

Fairplex. I have to say that I, I, I do

miss the Fairplex meet. I I used to love playing that

and Martine Pedroza would dominate every year.

Yes, right. God, that's a Fairplex

reference. Where else are you gonna get

that today? That's right.

So Cal Saturday, Los Aldo is our focus.

Shout out to Los Ponies. Hope you're doing well, Jose.

Race 1 coming up on Saturday's card.

Of course, if you're new to the program, we get together on

Fridays. We preview the card on Saturday.

Made special to open this one. We're going 5 furlongs.

Only have a dirt course there in Cyprus, $45,000 on the line here

and frankly quality wise, I think outside of the Petrondo,

this might be the best race of the day.

Barry. You know, you might be right,

but it it could be one of those situations where there's a horse

that just stands out here. And I think you know where I'm

going with this. The the Baffert horse, Saint

Petersburg might be the goods. I mean, there's really not much

to go on pedigree wise with a lot of these horses.

Saint Petersburg has a half sibling that won first time out

in late January as a three-year old and and one pretty good at

Gulfstream Park and the other sibling one second time out.

So, you know, I, I think this horse might be pretty

precocious. I'm not sure why Bob Baffert is

is really getting a race into this horse this early, but he

does well when he shows up at Los Al so I I can't knock what

he's doing here. No, that's right.

He got his start at Los Al. We all know that once he moved

to California. And I, I wonder here in this

spot with this horse, with the ownership, the connections,

etcetera. Barry, if this isn't more, this

one's ready and and now's as good a time as any to just get

the horse out there, go ahead, get 5 furlongs in.

If he doesn't win, OK, we just move on from here and figure it

out. But also a spot where maybe the

horse gets some confidence and then with Breeders' Cup being

out West, man, those two year old races, you got to have a

horse ready for that juvenile day on Friday.

I'm not saying I'm not trying to make a prediction that a horse

is going to go for breaking it's made at Los Alt to winning a

Breeders' Cup race or anything like that.

But frankly, mid June, it's an OK time to get started.

If you have thoughts about November, no.

Sure. Yeah, you would think so.

You know, I, I guess this would be like a safe spot in general,

you know, so it, it kind of makes sense.

The rest of the horses, you know, it, it could go anywhere

from there. I thought the 4L Rankin was

pretty decent, has some good 5 throwing works.

And you know, I'm a sucker for the longest, fastest gate work

close to the race and L Rankin is that with that June 14th

workout. So I I wanted to include that

one for a second. Yeah, so 6/4 for Barry on top.

I have the two on top here in my Moroni.

I'm not gonna make a bad 90s or 80s reference here in Sing

Sharona, I promise. But This is why Luis Mendez

trains here. He does really well.

First timers 19%. And this to me, Barry, is more

of an attempt to get some value early on.

We're talking about a 5 furlong race, you know, sound of cloud

computing in this spot. Maybe he can just get the break

and get there first. The workouts have been really

good. And you talk about Gateworks 46

and change from the gate handily over 4 furlongs at Santa Anita.

If the horse is able to do that and do anything for the last

furlong of the race, I think he can absolutely win here.

I know you have the 1/3 in your handicapping here.

Punto 40 for Antonio Fraser, who just won the riding title at

Santa Anita Park. Doug O'Neill trains here.

Another guy who's really, really good with first timers.

I have the Baffert in 3rd here for sure.

But I I, it's an interesting, an interesting, interesting race

for having only six horses in it.

Barry, there's some interesting quality at the top, but you're

right, the question about Saint Petersburg is an interesting

one. Yeah, I mean, we're gonna see

what it's all about early. I did really take a second look

at my Maroney, but it's hard because there's really no form.

This horse does have a really fast work and the trainer does

well with first time starters so that one was hard to leave off

the ticket, but I figured there might be some tussle up front

and we'll see. Hey Barry, I need to flip

Wi-fi's. I did a show outside of my back

porch this morning and now I'm in my studio, so I need to flip

Wi-Fi. I'm going to introduce Race 2.

I'm going to have you talk to about a horse and then I'm going

to flop back onto the show. It's a maiden 50 in Race 2,

going 6 furlongs there at Locile, $30,000 in the purse

here. One of those holes of those

races early on, Barry, this early.

Pick three I think could be a spot where if you wanted to get

aggressive and push your spots, I think you could actually get

some good payouts here. By the way, when we moved to

Locile, worth mentioning first race, 50 Cent, pick five, that's

the only race where you're going to see a $0.50 type

denomination. Otherwise, everything's a buck

and I mean everything from pick fours to win bets.

So if you're a smaller player, Barry, I know you do a show, the

notorious OTB several times during the week with our guy

Chase where you do the $100 budget for a day.

This is a nine card rate, the nine race card.

If you wanted to go a buck across the board on a horse at

every race, you could get out for 30 bucks.

And I just look, no, there's nothing wrong with that by the

way. Just to have some, have some fun

to hang out, do the darn thing. So even those things, if you're

just a smaller player and you just want some action, whatever,

the dollar across the board thing has gotten me through many

low cell nights and so on. Go ahead.

I was going to say that that's something I could do when I go

to the theme parks down here, You know, you spend a lot of

time in the theme parks and I check, you know, the races

during the day and all that kind of stuff.

So yeah, that's that's not a bad idea.

It's. An all exact about 4 bucks you

can go across the board on a horse for three.

I mean that's just whatever. I I I know I'm speaking to a

very specific horse racing demographic, but I I think Los

Al offers that for sure. We get a field of seven in here.

We do have a 2 to one favorite on the outside, Barry in the

seven horse Seager man, who I know you have in the second

Spock here, but you're going to take a shot.

You know what, it is appropriate that the sniper is going with

bazooka. I'll be right, right back.

All right, yeah. So I ended up on #3 Bazooka

Charlie with the idea that Segerman might get out quick to

the lead and, and, and get into a maybe a minor speed duel.

And that would set it up for Bazooka Charlie, who's shown

some affinity to come off the pace a little bit.

His first race October 25th 2024 at Santa Anita on the turf.

He kind of got in position after getting bumped around a little

bit and just didn't really do much from there.

Comes back off the layoff in a in a turf spot, which is kind of

surprising to me. And it looks like they just gave

them a race and this is the really the one they wanted.

This is probably a softer field than that one on the turf

anyway. And I think the running style

will make all the difference. I think this this pace is going

to heat up up front and Seger man might actually get some

competition. It's interesting as we apologies

for the scroll on top, bottom or race 2 here.

Barry, can you hear me? Did the Internet flip work OK,

OK, great. All right, So all things I one

of the themes of this weekend and next weekend when we're

talking Los Alberry is the number of horses that are

historically and usually turf horses.

But because of the schedule and because of the layout at Los Al

are on the dirt. But the other part, I think

that's worth mentioning as far as the Los Al surface, and we've

seen this for years, turf forces do just fine at LaSalle.

They really do. If they're good, if they're just

good gamers, if they're good runners, they're going to do

fine at LaSalle. You'll see guys like Peter

Miller switching surfaces here all the time, including on this

card. I think there's three different

Peter Miller's going from turf to dirt on this card.

And this is one of those spots. You're talking about a bazooka

Charlie that's gone twice on the dirt switching to turf, which

Steviati does it 24%. It's a massive number for him.

And so it's something that these guys have to do in California

because of the condition books, because of the limited number of

places to run and whatever else. And so he's one of those.

You went in this race 371. I went 715 S the seven on top

for me here. Segerman on the outside.

I thought the maiden fifty last time, but certainly the debut at

12 five. We're both good and Kazushi

Kimura keeps them out here from last time for Ryan Hansen.

I think this is the kind of horse that gets back to this

fifty level and goes ahead and wins here.

I do like the horse legal moose on the inside and not moose like

the animal, but rather like either the thing you when you

hear the word moose, do you think chocolate or what you put

in your hair, Barry? I think chocolate, I got a

tremendous sweet tooth, so yeah. You also don't need hair moose,

which I also don't need at all. But yes, legal moose.

I don't know which one it is. It's a son of legal authority,

so I have no idea what to do with that.

But the legal Moose comes in second time starter you and I

love that angle for sure. The move from maiden special to

maiden claimer, there's not enough for us to know if Hector

Palma is making a good decision here or not based on his

history. It's just not enough data there.

But his second time starters do win at 15%.

So I think that's good enough for me to be excited about a

horse that wasn't totally in the race last time.

But the work since then shown that I think woke up that in

that last race and so it's an opportunity there for this horse

to get a win here. I also do wonder with the five

horse Uncle Evco, not sure what that's a mention of ran a state

company last time other Thiago Pereira who keeps them out here.

But that was the first time on dirt.

We get to try dirt a second time.

I like that angle as well, Barry, where horse gets to try a

surface a second time, maybe this in between of being on the

dirt, but a dirt that plays well though the turf horses, we can

get back to that. What we saw that maiden 32 back

on March 23rd. We can get back into that kind

of form. Barry.

I think Uncle Evco can win. So 715 nothing too terribly

interesting for me. They're in race two.

We'll move on to race 3 now. Reminder that we are presented

by amwageramwager.com, our friends over there, 100% deposit

match for new customers up to $150.00 right now.

That's right. You put in 100 bucks, they put

in 100 bucks. That's exactly how all of this

works with them. They want you on their platform

and certainly if you are in California, they are live as

well. Race 3 is a maiden 20.

So we go maiden, maiden, maiden to open the card.

And that's why I think Barry this early pick three could be

real, real fun. One, there are 6 furlongs on the

dirt. This is for Phillies, who are

three and up in this spot as well.

Barry, I'll let you go first here.

I know you landed on the inside horse.

You're nice. By the way, if we get 6 to 1

here, nice play here. Yeah, I, I, I kind of doubt

we're going to get that. I mean, this horse on paper

looks to fit this race pretty well, especially after that last

race in February where Coastal Cowgirl just drew off and Tom

Starr was second by 15 lengths, but 9 clear of the third horse.

So that tells me this horse is probably in the right spot as

far as class wise. And I think the race shape kind

of is in that horse's favor too. There's a lot of speed.

There should be a contentious pace up front.

Just need Tom Starr to kind of get in the action a little bit

earlier like they did in February.

You and I very different on this race.

So Barry and I lay a little behind the scenes with how we do

this show. I always ask Barry to put his

picks on a sheet next to mine so that I can kind of play it, you

know? Hey, I know you like this horse

on top. It's not because I talk to Barry

every day and have a heartfelt conversation about which horses

at Los Al he loves. So it's something like that.

It's rather just that we have the same handicapping sheet and

Barry typed at the bottom while I was doing my last three races.

Louise making terrible picks. This is one of those races where

we landed on somewhere very, very different.

I've got Tyler Bays and Sean McCarthy with the Flash that

Smile trainee, the three horse here.

This is a maiden 20 Berry, so I'm drawing a line through the

last race. If we get any of the last two

performances before that, at 6 1/2 and at six at Santa Anita, I

think this horse will win in this spot.

Both of those finishing fourth by a length and a half and 3rd

by 3/4 of a length showed me enough that I think that flash,

this smile, a son, of course, a daughter, excuse me, of smiling

Tiger. Like every horse in California,

it seems like is in this one and I I think getting to this level,

I think the 20 will play really well for the three.

I have the seven in the second spot here, Barry.

Ellie Moore is the 9 to five favorite.

I don't love horses that are making their 11th attempt at

breaking their maidens, but I do think the last two times out

she's been very good. Now, both of those were on the

turf. We mentioned Peter Miller.

This is one of those switching to the dirt.

He does that at 12% in a huge sample size.

And when they do win, they don't pay well.

So in other words, he's not very when he puts one that's very

much in the right spot, they win and they don't pay.

And that's a sign that I think this one could definitely be in

the spot here. This is a daughter of Star

Spangled Banner. Of course the Australian bred

because when I think Star Spangled Banner Barry, I think

Australia. Yeah, of course.

Every time, right? I know it is when you have the

five in the second spot at 2:00 to 1:00 the the second favorite

on the line. Yeah, I mean, this horse is

running in, you know, with winners for a while, 5 races

worth and then now dropping back into maidens.

I think that can only help. I mean, the source doesn't

really obviously shown an affinity to win by any means,

but I think we'll show up. It's kind of like the seven.

I I think they're just win challenged and and they like to

finish second a lot. Yeah, well, that's exactly

right. My former Co host Dan Isley used

to say a lot of horses that know they're getting the same bucket

of food if they finish second or if they try to really push

forward and win in that spot as well.

You got the two horse third in your handicapping here, 15 to

one, a second timer, not a lot on debut, but it was at the

maiden special level up there at 6 1/2 distance on the turf, the

flat turf at Santa Anita, obviously the switch to dirt

which Ryan Hansen does as well as anyone outlast at 25%.

Are we hoping this it's the switch, Is it the class relief

getting a McKenzie back on the dirt?

What is it for you? All three to be honest and they

paid a pretty decent price for the source compared to everybody

else you know they they he was sold for 135,000 shows up in

this spot after one run at Santa Anita on the turf.

This spot doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but you know, I I

don't think this horse is going to run like you did the first

time. He's going to get a little bit

better or she's going to get a little bit better.

And Ryan Hansen does this move quite a bit.

He does well with it. Why not in a race that's really

kind of all over the. Place Cooper's last 9 goings

maiden special down to the claiming level.

I I'm with you on that part of it.

I do think there's a there's an element where he's making the

right decision as far as getting a win here.

I'm, I don't know if they're ready for this horse to get

claimed because at 20 that could happen, right?

I mean, this is a horse that was bred for 75 like you mentioned,

sold for 1:35. If you think there's any chance

that this 3 year old Philly and frankly, even for breeding

purposes, once we get to that point, a daughter of Mackenzie,

I mean, it might be worth 20 grand just in the, in the

breeding shed. I don't know.

I, you know, that kind of thing. So interesting to see how she

ends up doing. Barry and I both have her third

in our handicapping for race three.

We move on to race 4. Does it start the pick six?

It does start the pick 6. If you are not familiar with the

Los Al pick six, it's heavy y'all, $2.00 minimum, but it is

traditional. So there is no jackpot wager on

this. So if you hit it, you keep it.

And so a bit like Naira, a bit like other places, Keeneland,

depending on where you bet they it's a $2.00 minimum.

They keep all those things by the way, I mentioned the $1.00

minimum on lots of things that includes trifectas, that

includes exactas. It also includes pick 3.

So actually, the pick three's at Los Alberry tend to be a pretty

good play because that minimum forces you to kind of

concentrate where you're putting your money in those pools.

Plus it stops people from just crushing all buttons and

multiple legs and just throwing, you know, throwing lottery

tickets against the wall to see what sticks.

But this is a $20,000 claimer in a race for going a mile on the

dirt here, $20,000 is the claiming price, $28,000 is the

purse. I thought Barry, one of the more

competitive races on this card. As far as if you told me a a

number of horses won this race, I don't think I would be

surprised. Yeah, this is this is another

one of those kind of races like I just described just kind of

all over the place. A lot of these horses are doing

different things coming into this race from different ways,

means or what have you. So it it it makes for a lot of

chaos. Unfortunately.

I thought the two kind of laid over this field actually, which

which is kind of surprising being that I profess and claim

to be the king of the no chalk zone.

But King Apollo looks like the good team.

For sure, yeah, right now also picking winners matters in this

sport as well. So yeah, King Apollo, of course,

last two out, last three out, actually on the turf did win 3

back, going 6 furlongs on the turf.

Kyle Frey gets them out here for the Hess Barn and this one's

interesting because his turf to dirt numbers are as good as

anyone's a California 14%. I'm trying to figure out what

they're trying to figure out what this horse essentially

like. Is this just a horse that's

going to get bounced around in the claiming ranks or do they

have something more for him? You know, subtle piles, miles,

He is gelded. So obviously he's going to be a

claiming horse the rest of his career, but he's over three at

the distance. I, I just you also wonder is his

best running already done? I, I don't know, but I, I do

think if he brings his a game, I'm with you.

He's probably the best in this field.

I decided because of all those things to put the five on top

here. Spagliato, son of Quality Rd.

here, finished third going 6 1/2 on the turf Last time we get

Antonio Fresio in the mound here, another Peter Miller going

turf to dirt. And the last time we did see

this horse on the dirt was. Never and so that's a kind of

horse that after four starts this year with no wins at higher

levels than this, either an option and claimer level or at

like a 30 kind of level. Getting back into this one

should have won last out frankly, had Juan Hernandez

pulled the trigger just a little bit earlier.

But Delmar Jerry got up just in time for that 25 claimer for non

2 lifers. I I have the five on top here,

Barry, I'm very unsure of it. You seem much more sure about

the two. We both have the one Sakil in

our in our handicapping. And I got to be honest, this is

a horse 36 times running has finished in the money 23 times

out of 39 races. OK, so this is one of those

horses that's just always around Barry.

I saw this. I saw this horse in the past

performances and I went, oh, I know that horse.

It must have been on the Derby trail.

It must have been, you know, a whatever.

Nope. Just run 39 times and now we do

it. Just seen the name a lot a.

Lot that's exactly right, Sakil make the case.

I I thought there wasn't really too much speed in this race,

which is the reasoning mostly behind why I like King Apollo so

much. Sakil's probably the second

fastest horse in that regard and will be for the place and and

we'll have to kind of get out and go because of the fact that

this horse is on the rail. But I think that the situation

itself puts Sakil in the right spot.

You know, a horse like Legato I I kind of thought would be up

against it because of the pace scenario, but Sakil should be

right there and you know, give or take.

I mean, King Apollo isn't a cinch here.

This horse has finished second eight times and and only won

four, so there there's that possibility that Sakil could be

at the right place at the right time.

Barry Spears Luderbo Socal Saturdays That was race 4 at

losalamitosagaincheckoutourfriends@amwagerandamwager.com Race 50 Barry We got three of

these. The rest of the card, my friend

6250 claimer, we're going 5 1/2 non 3 lifers, Phillies and mares

3 and up. I love these races.

Barry, This is what I tune into Los Al for is is this kind of

race 6250 sprinting around that slight right turn and left turn.

This is these are the races. This is outside of of course,

Michael Ronan and and Los ponies and all the good things that

happened at sarge, all the good people.

So this This is why we TuneIn is race 5 again, A6250 claimer.

I'll go first here, Barry, and this is 1 where you and I landed

on the same. But we should have a a souder

for that. Should we not?

Shouldn't there be like a something like something that

oh, Louis and Barry actually agree on something which is a

terrifying reality once in a while.

Gracious comes in here though in for the tag here.

And I think the case is pretty simple.

Barry, most of it's career, most of her career running on the

turf. She takes 2024 off comes back

and is immediately effective over this course.

Now in 1000 yard race, I understand, but gets it done in

sub 53 1/2. So she's a fall lion.

Second off the layoff here. I don't want to say that this is

like the the the push point or the single of the pick 6 because

I think that's coming in the Vert Rondo, but she's as close I

think as we're going to get in the late pick in the pick six at

least. Yeah, she seems super fast here.

It it's on paper. To me, it seems like it's her

race to either win or lose, you know, And then you look through

the rest of the field, a horse like Danz and Cat has shown some

speed, but not that same kind of speed that Graze and Touch has.

So, you know, like you said, probably one of the focal points

of this card, at least if you're playing the Pick 6.

I would think that a horse like this would be in it, you know,

very skinny in this spot. You know, you mentioned Danz and

Cat. I don't think that's a bad spot

to go. So obviously daughter Danz and

Candy Billy anti Georgia gets them out here.

If you go to back at the 12 five level with this horse winning at

Del Mar that ran out of gas at the end and was lucky to hold on

in that one at 6 1/2 furlongs luckily only has to go 5 1/2

here. I think the distance for the one

Danzy cat really does hit. But I'm with you.

I think grazing touch is just faster.

I think she's just going to be better out of the gate.

She's going to get the lead and that's going to be it.

But I would not be surprised to see Danzy Cat right there at the

end of that one as well. You and I both have the seven

and one in our handicapping. But you think Dallas Alice,

which I got to say sounds like the name of a woman who does

things that you only go to see after 10:00 at night.

But anyways, what do you like about?

I, I think this horse ran well in the tries at LaSalle

previously comes off the pace. So that might be a little bit of

an advantage to get this horse into the number because I, I

think they're going to go really quick up front.

I, I mean, it's funny going back to Danzig Cat when horses go

from like a mile to 7 furlongs, it's not that big of a deal.

And in fact, it, it, it almost accentuates the kick of a horse,

right. You know, making that cut back

from 6 1/2 to 5 1/2, it's a little different story.

The horses tend to lag behind a little bit and that might make

all the difference. Not that Dancing Cat isn't fast,

he just doesn't have the 5 1/2 speed versus the 6 1/2 speed.

But that being said, Dallas Al should be picking up the pieces

late here. Has closed on several occasions.

Seems to like Lois Al a little bit, but it's training and

running there for a pretty long time and this field isn't

spectacular by any means. And I can see this one showing

up on the scene late. Yeah, I went 751 here.

So the five horse is born to stay thirsty.

And this is a name that everybody's going to learn this

weekend. If you don't bet Los Al very

often. Edgar Palleros is their

nighttime leading jock. So lots of quarter horse racing,

but also these sort of 1000 yard sprints as well.

And this is a horse that won last out and before that and and

it won't show up in the past performances as a win.

So this is one of those things, if you see sort of those

lighter, brighter, bigger numbers, that's from a quarter

horse or a mixed horse race between quarter horses and

thoroughbreds. If you see that regular number,

I'm talking about the form, of course it's going to be a

thoroughbred only race. The last time he was in one of

those he finished fifth by 2 1/2 lengths, but since then has

never been worse than third in a 6250 claimer at Los Al.

That 5421 winning time last time isn't fast enough to catch a

grazing touch. But I think A-75 type exacta

could actually be one that pays really well because I do think

the one's going to catch a ton of money and deservedly in the

exacta pools as well. Race 6, we move on is the start

of the late pick 4 again, the $1.00 late pick four there at

Los Altos. Those pools tend to be pretty

good and then the payouts tend to be pretty fun there as well.

Another 6250 claiming on 2 lipers on the dirt here, 5 1/2

furlongs, $13,000 purse. It's on the boys side here.

So 3 and up that have never won two races as well.

I think this is when Barry was like, what is Louis?

Oh, wait, never mind. We agree on this race.

And so 8:00 and 9:00, you and I have those two on top.

Fast service and uplift. I'll let you talk about faster.

Yeah, fast service should probably get the run the race

been running faster races than most of these horses

collectively. There's a lot of speed to the

inside. The 123 horse should all be kind

of out there winging it and and kind of slips this horse into a

really nice spot. You know, this horse kind of

surprised, I think the connections when they came down

to to Southern California, they they found those races to their

liking, those restricted races and and they hook a field with a

lot of those horses in this race that fast service, I think

should be able to handle notwithstanding, you know, the

the run off. Like if if there's a situation

where naftis the one kind of gets to the leading and and goes

off, you know, it's the gamble is where that would happen or

how many times you think out of 100 that would happen.

And I don't think very many. I think consistency, race,

shape, everything else is definitely in fast surfaces,

favor and flavor. You and I both went 8-9.

If the 12 happens to draw in somehow.

I do think infamous Angel Giofranco in to ride for Eddie

Freeman. I I think that horse has a

legitimate shot just looking at some of the previous form and I

think will bounce into this company really, really well.

It's been running at like the 15 level starter allowance and that

kind of thing. Getting into 62 five, I think is

much, much better for this horse.

I'll talk about the 9:00 here in uplift.

You mentioned fast service, the 8 horse here being able to, you

know, pick up the piece at the end.

This one, no question about it's a Pleasanton.

You know, Lo Sal before that ran really well.

I at the distance is the question here because I think

this horse wants a little bit more than this.

I think that like 6 1/2 seven is probably better for this horse,

Barry. But if this horse could break

well, which is going to is a real question here, frankly,

Kyle Frank can get this one out. I think it'll be just fine.

It did break well last time and finished second behind whiskey

and a teacup and essentially at this level as well.

And what you mentioned is interesting about those

restricted races. They're now filling the races at

Losalle too, right? These horses.

And So what a what a great gift they've been to Southern

California racing. But yeah, this son of a upstart,

it's a tough game, Barry. He's in for 65, paid a quarter,

1,000,000 bucks for this horse. He's made 26, five in his

career. It's a tough game, but I do

think he's got one of the better shots here.

You got a long shot in the third spot here, though, in the sixth

horse. That is fly zapper.

Have you been called fly zapper before?

I've never been called fly zapper.

I've never been called that, but I wish I I could use 1.

You know, I might need to invest for our breezeway.

You know, I sit out there in the evenings and get eaten up.

So maybe we should get a fly zapper.

But this horses really run very well every time you know he's

gamer got the 4 1/2 at you know, with just straight thoroughbreds

and and ran off in that race May 11th comes back with a with a

nice work on June 13th. Why not?

Yep. Yeah, No 46 from the on the

workout there at Los Alt. They like the course.

They like the course. This is a horse that doesn't

know anything else besides Los Alamitos out of the Charles

Trees barn there in Southern California.

Again, we're presented by Amwager here.

Odd SoCal, Saturday's Barry Spears, Louis Reubo hanging out

with you. Time for the late pick three

there at Los Alamitos. Race 7 starts that that

sequence. Toronto the next race, but this

is a $40,000 optional claimer with a $47,000 purse. 6 1/2

furlongs. They'll start just into the

shoot there at Los Alamitos. This is for Phillies and mares 3

and up. Never one, blah, blah, blah,

blah, blah. So not 2 lifers essentially at

this kind of level. Barry, another interesting

field, another one where you have to make decisions on

horses, switching surfaces, that kind of thing.

In this spot, you and I landed on extraordinarily different

horses. And so you've got a long shot in

here that you really like in the 8 horse in the air tonight.

Is that a that's got to be a song you like.

Come on now. It's all right.

I, you know, I, I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

If it's on that web, I would listen.

Yeah, right. But Gee, how?

About that. This horse, you know, doesn't

look all that bad, dropping down in class and keeping really,

really good company and running well. 12 to one seems like a

stretch when you look at everything as a as a whole.

There's enough speed in here. This horse is OK at the

distance. I I think this one stands a

really good shot. If we get 12 to one.

I might have to push all the chips in to be honest with you.

There you go. I like Ovetta's hobby right next

to her. The seven horse Juan Hernandez

is riding at locile this weekend, which is good for this

horse on the turf. The last two before that though,

Barry, if you look at that dirt form, 6 furlongs in Santa Anita,

wins by 4 under Juan Hernandez, 5 1/2 at this meet at La Salle

at a maiden fifty wins by 12. I think we're getting back to

the dirt. I think that that's what this

horse wants to do. This daughter of army mule.

They paid a lot of money for this horse, John Sadler, Juan

Hernandez, all the things that win 25% of their races together.

So I do think Ovetta's hobby in here, I'm a little surprised

that she's not the favorite, but I, I will absolutely take seven

to two if I could get that on this horse.

I then went to the five lovin on the run.

All of these horses have names sound like late 80s early 90's

pop ballads, do they not? Yeah, you know the the.

Love it on the run just. Sounds, Big hair bands.

The big hair bands. Like poisons like and now our

newest hit. Love it on the run.

And that's what this looks like. That's what this is.

Def Leppard song. That's exactly it is Def Leppard

Doug O'Neill trains. This is one that's been on the

turf all of its career until very, very few spots. 16 runs,

eleven of them on the turf, one of them over wet go.

Almost certainly not an issue this weekend, but Tubac did win

at the 32 claimer level sprinting on the flat turf there

at Santa Anita Park. So I think this is 1 to auto run

happy. I think she'll be just fine

getting back there and wish they all could be.

Speaking of 90s and 80s and 70s songs, Grazin is the is the sire

here. Tiago Prayer keeps them out here

has been good at Santa Anita. Not great, but at a very high

level. This one though, because of

career accomplishments, is in for the tag.

And so once in a while, Barry, I do just like that when someone

would have to pay 40 grand to go get this horse is a good sign to

me. If you look back at previous

races, including at Los Al, this horse does have a win going 6

1/2 furlongs at the 50 level. We moved to 40 here.

So I think that's a definite play as well.

You like the six as well that I just talked about, but the two

made it to your handicapping in running super?

Yeah, I was really close to putting running super on top,

OK, But I I think this horse has has something in there.

You can put a line through that last race on the turf at Santa

Anita. The source clearly doesn't want

turf, but the other 6 1/2 efforts were really, really good

one at at this level, basically a start allowance 50K and and

kind of drew off. Then they put this horse over at

Turf Paradise, rent rent a good race over there and then they

put this horse on the turf. I think getting back to the dirt

is all the things this horse is going to be forwardly placed 8

to 1 is is a good price. I I like I said, I almost put

this horse on top. Yeah, I I think the move back to

to dirt here and what we saw in the maiden 40 last year at

LaSalle with that horse makes a lot of sense.

I'm very, very with you. The only negative about the

sarin barn is that that second off the layoff number is always

bad and I don't know what it is 'cause.

I'm sure I'm sure they're saying the same thing.

Like positive, you're right, yes, but I'm sure that

contributed of course to the 8 to 1 number.

The highlight of the day is the Pertrondo Stakes.

It's a 3 year old race for Cal breads and three and up here

going a mile on the dirt there. Of course at Los Alamitos, if

you don't know the course is a mile, so you start and finish at

the same line there some horses in here.

I got AI got a wax poetic for five seconds.

Freeport Joe was in this race yes good thing about a horse

like Freeport Joe is it makes me think of Matt Dinerman.

And then whenever I, whenever I get to do that, I smile because

that horse ran at Golden Gate forever.

And so I, I, I, I just think of, I think of Matt Dinerman when I

hear Freeport Joe and, and I'll probably text him after the show

to tell him. I thought I saw Freeport Joe's

name. But like I said, $100,000 race

here for Cal Breads, a very, very, very good favorite.

Barry on the outside in night in Kings River night.

We're getting to the point with him.

Barry, if they don't put him on the turf anymore, he's down the

hill. He's won on the turf before.

He's OK. I want to be, I want to be clear

about Cal bred races. He is entering, entering, he's

not there. He's entering chosen Bron Kerry

territory. He just is because he's just the

connections are very smart. They can win a bunch of $100,000

races and that's a good idea. That's just a good idea.

He comes in as a big favorite. You and I both have them on top

there. Yeah, well, you know, it's funny

about Socal Saturdays, especially this episode, because

a, you get me picking chalk like this, You get former or, or, you

know, on other shows, my hockey knowledge, oh boy.

And my knowledge of big hair bands.

I mean, oh, they're stretching me out, man.

They're stretching me out on. That show ice hockey, hair bands

and chalk. How about that?

Yeah, they're. Never would have thought about

that when you think of Socal, right?

But here we are. But yeah, it's it's tough to get

around the seven horse in this race.

He's just blazingly fast. There's nobody in here that can

hang with him. He he's sort of like the Ricky

Bobby of this race where you know he's just going to be

first, not last. It was hard to come up with

anybody that that could even contend with him, right?

But I used the one for 2nd Ice cold exact.

They're barely functional or fun functional, not funk fun.

This horse ran well both times at LaSalle. 2 for four at the

distance should be coming late, and I think that's probably best

in in a race like this where Cowboy Mike really only has one

shot and that's kind of the go. Same thing with Mr.

Disrespectful. So there should be enough pace

obviously for a horse like barely functional to kind of get

up late. I really need Freeport Joe to

win this race. Hey, if he wins, it's Sizzler

time, baby. I love that horse so much.

Bastard. I it's I went 764 here.

I of course had to include Mr. Disrespectful since I hang out

with you all the time, but did put in a really good work.

Frankly, this horse, his last three runs have been good Barry,

just at lower levels than this race.

He hasn't gone against a horse like Kings River Knight in these

spots, but Hector Barrios keeps them out here.

Second to last or two back on the dirt, one over the turf last

time, 3 back, one over the dirt going a mile.

So this distance obviously fits has never run at Los Al before,

so we don't quite know about that, but I think if anyone's

got upset, it'll be him in this spot.

Mr. Disrespectful. But I think the four here is

interesting too. Our guy Armando Iuso, this horse

is coming out of a couple of very bad performances.

But if we get anything buried like we had in February where

the horse goes a mile in an 80 optional claiming with Juan

Hernandez, we're going to get back to that now.

Horse has moved to Temiak teen since being in the Baffert barn

before but interested. I don't think this horse wins

bare, but I think he can get a piece of the pie there.

That's. Fair, that's fair.

I mean his races last year kind of line up too, so I I could

definitely see him running a big race here, but I'm not sure he

could beat the 7th. No, I totally get.

It stranger things have happened.

Oh, no doubt about it. The Retrondo winner last year

was in fact river. No, he ran two years ago in this

race. I don't think he was in this

race last year. I think he was on the bench, but

cowboy Mike did run in this race last year.

He finished fourth behind a non Oh yeah, none above the law win

this race last year. That's.

Yes, there you. Go all right, closer at LaSalle.

Again, we're presented by Amwager.

Check us out at Sporting Tribune's YouTube page as well.

If you ever missed part of the show, always try to keep that

scroll going at the bottom so you know exactly which race

we're talking about. Back to the 62 five.

Let's go. 6250 claimer here. 5 1/2 furlongs, Phillies and mares

3 and up, $15,000 purse here, Barry.

And another race where you and I don't agree and you think I'm a

moron, but we'll go to you first.

By the way, another good field, overflow AE field for this one.

Rose of Jericho, friend, make the case.

Yeah, I got a little chalky here, the late part of the card.

I know. I mean, you're going to write

this down? This, this has to be like

monumental. Here's no, let's be clear about

what's happening here. Come on this show, high

production level, great looking host and you go, you know what,

I'm going to pick winners. And then you go on that show

with the beard guy and he's like, hey, AI stuff and you're

like, you know what, I'm going to do 30 to 1, let's go.

That's the difference. It's a, it's a, it's, it's the

attractiveness of the host and the maturity of the show,

obviously. That's why I got you.

Yeah. No, no, that makes sense.

I'll, I'll go with that. I'll definitely go with that.

But Rosa Jericho again, this race is akin to a lot of those

restricted races that we were getting over at Santa Anita.

A lot of those horses end up here and you see some of the the

lowest outcasts kind of show up and those horses can run.

They're fast early and it and it makes for a difficult race.

But I I just think that the nine kind of lays over this field.

He's been running better since, you know, last year.

I mean, most of the races last year would beat this field.

Come came back running March 9th after a short break.

Both both races in May were were really good in comparison to

everybody else's and I think this horse kind of runs away

with it. My kid asked me the other day,

Barry, if a horse race has ever ended 123 and I said yeah, that

happens a fair amount. Well, I have I have 213 on top

here about to regulate and so 213 see how I did that

Supersonic flyer 9 to a nine to two here for Jesus Oranga.

I'm interested in this one, Barry, because eight 78170 yards

last time. OK, we're getting back to a

longer distance here and I think this horse wants more distance.

Essentially. The two races before that were

excellent. They were both at locile.

I'm hoping for a return to that kind of form.

We also saw this horse win at this level at Pleasanton before

and at Fresno as well. So I think if we get those kinds

of performances, the two horse in the spot, we'll be back to

that. The one horse in here, Roman

Empress is really fascinating. 6 year old mayor here has second

and third place finished the last two out.

I I don't have a great overwhelming case for her here

Barry, but this is the kind of horse already running her eighth

race this year. Sometimes these horses just go

ahead and jump up in these spots.

I've liked the last couple of works as well and they were way,

way back a couple about a month ago, a month and a half ago.

So no time to work since then. We're just running this horse.

I'm interested to see how she bounces back here.

And then the three horse queen of the track.

It's getting her 4 started years run third twice.

Last time was really, really close and a starter allowance at

Los Al before that did win at the 6250 claiming level.

Before that was running in 12 fives and 10s.

Those kinds of things needed to drop into this level to win.

I love the six to one number, these connections lesser known,

frankly, Barry. So I think we'll get every bit

of six to one on the three here. So I went 213, but I know you

like the five in this spot. Irish Prancer.

I'm sure you've never been called the Irish Prancer.

No, not not recently. Maybe when I used to live in

Massachusetts they might have confused me when I was wearing

green or something. But not since I've been to

Florida and I wear green quite a bit.

You see all the the hurricane stuff, but I thought Irish

Prancer, you know, if you look at the record at the distance,

it's pretty good. 3 for 9:00 at the distance, 22 seconds, 1/3.

More than half this horse's earnings have been at this

distance. And this horse is getting back

to this distance for the first time in quite a bit.

Ran pretty good against Queen of the Track last time, May 17th.

And you see this horse go back to the Pleasanton in Fresno

days. I think that form would be OK

here and I, and it looks like this horse is kind of rounding

back into form gets Rojas Fernandez again.

And I I think this is a good thing at 15 to 1.

All right. And it wraps up another edition

of Socal Saturday. We do, of course, need to flip

over to the Ohio Derby. What, what, what a transition

that was. We'll go to the Ohio Derby now.

Yeah. Just just this show.

I mean, there's just what a what a what a wonderful is a lifeful

program this is. But the Ohio Derby is the last

race on the car tomorrow at Thistledown, 6:20 Eastern Time.

So right as they'll be getting to the gate there out West at at

Los Alamitos, they'll start at 4:00 Eastern, 1:00 Pacific.

Out West. This race goes off at 3:20

Pacific. Berry in the Ohio Derby, you and

I both landed on the same horse. Why do we like McAfee?

Because I learned how to say Thistle down and not Thistle

downs. No, no, that was me.

That's totally me. You know, I, I for the longest I

was like, oh, Thistle downs and it was like, it's not even

Thistle downs, but I, I think McAfee kind of gets into the

right trip. There's some speed in there.

Clever. Again, I really don't trust at

all the anytime this horse got, yeah, got breathed on, packed it

up and it has to prove it outside of Oak Lawn as well.

Moplex, who's on the way outside, is a really, really

nice horse. Yes, really nice horse.

And I think that horse is actually better than clever,

again, to be honest. And those two are going to hook

up. You add another couple in there.

You got McAfee sitting right behind him.

Just needs that same trip he got last time in the Peter Pan and I

think he will because you see the the drop in class there.

The horse got into the race a lot earlier than he did in the

Wood Memorial. I'm interested in a couple of

other horses in here as well, but I have McAfee on top.

Capo Luca, who's going to break right next to him, loves

distance and I think the mile and an eighth is not going to be

a problem. This is a horse that's won three

times in a row at Thistle going two turns.

Now the No Lasix thing is going to affect those Ohio horses a

lot 'cause they are very used to running on it.

They're not going to get in the Ohio Derby.

Totally agree about McAfee. I thought that Peter Pan

performance was enough, Barry, but I will give you why.

I really think John Velasquez getting on a plane for one race.

I he's getting on a race. You get off that, that one, that

that's that to me once a while. That's a great angle that.

Might be it, bro. All right, well, he's Barry.
