Alright, what's up everybody? Welcome to another edition of

horse racing. Happy hour.

That means but you know I'm watching them to battle players,

play to the old Persian Gulf, it is Sports in the summertime,

welcome to late June and Major League.

Baseball has the worst TV package deal of all time because

nobody to watch him. So I don't know what they're

protecting besides nothing. It's really nice protecting

they're protecting growing their sport.

So that's what it is. That's that's all there is to it

but you don't we should I do tonight is have Yankee guys on.

That's what we should do. You know what we should do?

The Reds just went to Baltimore and took two out of three.

There it is. So we gotta bring on

non-periodic and Dan Dillman. So we can talk about this area

is domination over. Maryland, Well, Tina baseball, I

am still. I'm so glad the high from

Domingo home on poker game, the other night which was you're a

Yankee fan, extremely exciting. And I stayed up till 1:30 in the

morning, just on like adrenaline and it hit me at 2:00 this

afternoon. Like, oh my God, I'm on.

No sleep, but I powered through. And now I'm here, and obviously

a big weekend across the country on on tap.

And and I was thinking too because Louis texted me me, just

just five to the show and he said, it's going to be an Ellis

heavy show. And that's probably the first

time anyone has said that on a podcast with, like Mass Appeal,

that's where I mean, if we have Mass Appeal and I appreciate

that. Thank you.

Yeah, look, I don't know what Mass means, but I agree that we

have Mass Appeal, they do it. Speaking of Mass Appeal, I

prefer handicapping base. Fall like a handicap horse

racing. I look for upside.

The Yankees their time has passed the Baltimore Orioles.

They are the in thing. They're the cool thing.

You've got your adly rushman. You've got to Ryan Mount Castle.

You've got your Felix Bautista. We run came to watch.

Well, you know, it's my civic duty even though I am a Yankee

fan is my civic duty to hold by the O's do well in games that

Yankees are not in my, like, I do low season, is that?

It wouldn't like 86 games a year, you Come in.

Second, the third and don't bother the Yankees as the

Yankees. Do they think that's kind of

like drinks cheering gunshot to be 86 to 90 10 for this year?

I mean, that's probably right on par mean, they're one of the top

10 teams in baseball. Yeah.

I mean, he rolled the Orioles are a good three-year-old in the

Yankees are a six-year-old that probably needs.

Maybe even a giggling. I'm farm with the, you know,

what's amazing about the perfect game is that there's only been

17 complete games in. All of people are all the

thieves Like that's just the idea that you're going to see

batters for the third time is almost gone and major.

Yeah. And so yeah, did you see that

Louisa riyas down in Miami has already faced more pitchers

pitchers this season than Tony? Gwynn is best hitting season

with the Padres doesn't surprise me.

He's already since ancient saying yeah.

So we could talk baseball you as one but it mean I think we got

to talk about horse racing, we probably do.

Yeah. Yeah, no Michelle, you know, we

love having you guys back on I guess.

You guys are probably battling for top spot.

Now I mean that you all have to be battle.

You know you bought been on wasn't sure but now I guess

what? You think.

Lily Lily wants an interesting solution shot.

I apologize. All right, let's go logically

not great at this the more that sure of a yeah, probably just

because those Maryland shows, the thing that's happened is

Matt determine hasn't been on for a while and we actually like

Matt determine unlike Coastal Elite Dan Dillman, who people

like, but I don't and so it's just, you know, it's one of

these. This is a tough racket.

This this horse racing podcasting.

There's only three hundred twelve of them.

And so to 312 to get the top people over.

And over instead we we go to the NFL and it's speaking about to

do man, speaking about determinant.

Yeah, you have great hair. You get to go to perfect games,

we get it. Great.

You all have your heard me say that gentleman.

Looks like Joey votto's nerdy little brother.

Oh God. You're right.

Yeah. You know, we have one big race.

We need to talk about from last week and it was the Foreman's

from to Phil's here at thistledown winning the Ohio

Derby. So let me get this.

All cued up Zacks, leave me high and dry.

Here we go. Look at him.

Get outside there. My call.

Mr. Is Chris Griffin called this?

You can do whatever you want. Okay, well obviously we are

boys. You see Bishops Bay trying to

cut the corner here and then you get to Phil's on the outside.

The fascinating thing is right here.

Boom I've always wondered and and you could probably speak to

this a little bit better when those horses get going.

Do they want to be next to the rail?

Just because when they train they get used to like, hey I'm

next to the rail. It's time to go faster.

Why do so many horses cut over when they get off the turn like

that? I think they're.

They're used to getting to the rail.

That could be a combination that maybe they're getting Ting a

little bit tired and they're drifting back down towards the

inside. It could be a jockey situation,

just trying to get down there. Making sure no one's going to

come and sneak up and beat you on the inside because that's one

of the worst things a rider can do in that situation.

Listen to Phil's was much the best.

It's a shame, he got hurt after the race.

It's a shame, he's retired and he might have been the best

three year old the country. I agree and look the Reveille

quote about Secretariat. Oh yeah I'm trying to get the

right there. It is.

There it is. The liri valley quote about

Secretariat give it the proper context.

Dan, what do you think he was trying to say?

I have no idea what he was trying to.

I agree with that assessment. I mean, what I mean, you guys

have been flying off to make II, don't know where that came from.

It's stunning. John would teach.

What did you what was John Piazza creation.

But you saw that quote, what the hell are you talking about?

Like, I think he, I think he's got caught up in the Heat of the

Moment and, you know, the Afterglow of winning like that.

And then getting ho today later I I think he There's lots of

sense of you know reason which I missed all of us happens.

Some the Bears will say though the thing about to Phil's now is

because he ended his crew are on a high note and he never had to

run run in the travels or the house call or or PA do it.

I think in time he's going to be thought of as a better hose in,

maybe he wants. Because now if some long shot

wins wins The Travelers or nobody really moves forward in

the back half of the, you everyone can be like oh oh well

to Phil's, we're done this and he would have been great.

So I think his reputation, you know, way could be elevated by

his unfortunate retirement. So you think they use just

ducking Forte the entire town. So, You've got to run in the

derby. Dude, it is fascinating to

because I think after watching him as well.

Dan. I mean, are we at the point

where we have to take the Jeff Ruby steak seriously?

Or is this just a two-year blip? You think?

Oh, I think it's a two-year blip II.

Don't think you really want to talk about for years was the key

to your old race? And when I don't remember, the

last time we seen a Remsen winner actually do anything.

On the tracking goes, in stages to Phil's was always a good

third horse. His Jeff Ruby was exceptional.

He really seemed to handle the to Peta.

I think he just happened to mature at the right time.

I think looking back onto fills his career, John makes a good

point. Maybe people will think he's

better than he ought. Then he always was but I think

people are going to look back and say why didn't they run the

source in the Preakness because on that race?

Yeah, I agree. Hey great especially because

Give me the way where is played out and, and the way the Ohio do

played out really know who is it, he could have won the

Preakness, and then if he gets home now, at least you can be

like, oh Lisa got his grade one rather than I'll, you know, got

it now it's kind of like what, what might have been a kind of

thing. Yeah, I agree agreed to refuse

me grade one second, and then and winning a grade one after

that looks a lot different on the breeding sheet than it does.

When you have for me, I don't know how Derby champion I know

that's going to show it. Sometimes got to strike while

the Iron's hot because I'm sure they thought, oh man alive.

All summer can pick up these big wins.

You don't have to run the thickness and then you know man

plans God laughs, it was the fastest Echo base speed figure

in the Ohio Derby since the 2006 version.

And if anyone can win and who won the 2006, Ohio Derby, then

they are the horse racing expert of the year.

There's no chance. Yeah.

Go ahead Dy, Dy, Glitters. It wasn't even worse.

All right, so that's been married for 20 years and married

for six years. Yeah.

All right. Lilly do our read for the horse

racing 10? No, I get the little sound that

we did now. Here we go, like this.

So I wouldn't have to work. Guys will enjoy this.

I mean if I think Gilman does it even know what he's about to do.

So that's great. This is great.

All right here we go. Welcome to horse racing 101 with

a horse racing. Happy hour sponsored by the

Maryland Horse Breeders Association there's no better

time to breed and race in Maryland Maryland breads racing

and open overnight races and Maryland receive a. 15% owner

bonus 80. 15% developer bonus with a top-three finish to learn

more about the advantage of breeding and owning Maryland,

breaths. Visit us at Maryland

thoroughbred Come or call them for 1025 to 2100.

All right, getting text messages now, Maryland.

That were now Maryland homers. So, you know it happened.

Yeah, well done. All right.

So Dan we have had two versions of horse racing 101.

Sponsored by our friends at the Maryland, Thoroughbred beers

there and they'll be hanging out with us all the way through

Breeders Cup actually hanging out with us for the Breeders Cup

shows as well. When we head up to California,

Dan, if somebody wanted to eventually work for the drf,

what was your route to the drf and what is your day look like

now my rather way no no pressure Jana.

Antonucci kicked off this segment.

My my route to the drf was of nothing but being very, very

lucky and right place. And right time, I graduated from

the prestigious Nova, Southeastern University, who

they are with a bachelor degree in Liberal Arts and I was ready

to conquer the world, but unfortunately, jobs are scarce

in the liberal arts field as we go along.

But I've always been a horse racing fan, I've always liked to

write. I was the best football

announcer, the baseball announcer, etcetera, and

college, the sports editor, everything.

A multi-faceted guys, I am now actually, what I did was back

then, you know, John's not going to be familiar with this, but

there was something called want. And so, the newspaper and I

looked at one and there was a, was an ad for a sort of handicap

/ / page, layout editor /. Something it's Sport side, which

was a harness newspaper out in Long Island.

I decided, okay, let me take a shot, got that job at about, six

months later, there was an ad in the paper for Daily Racing Form

just to sort of an entry-level thing got that job.

I've been there for 25 years move the way up and do what's my

day? Like now I get up, probably

around. Five in the morning, I finish up

my Laurel analysis, I write articles, I called trainers, I

annoy them with questions about their R horses, I write Recaps

after the stakes races, I write the analysis.

Every day for Maryland, I do videos, I do whatever they need

me to do and I love it. Are you watching race replays at

five in the morning? What are you doing in five of

the more yoga? What's going on?

Seriously, I mean, because I want to bet these races in

Maryland. So for me, I'm looking at

pedigree, I'm looking for track biases.

I'm looking at replays, the great thing about the formulator

past performances with drf. As I could put my crib notes in

every race for every horse. So I pretty much have a detailed

history of my own personal past performances for every horse.

I but trip for just about every horse in the race that to me.

He is really kind of a big deal. I'm looking for something that

you may not see just off the cold dope.

Something, if you could watch in a replay, a video of find a pace

Edge for a horse, that's what I'm trying to do.

You have you? So, I mean, the quarter second

with rounds of that. No, no, that's awesome.

Could you imagine having done anything else?

And what would you have done? Had you not done this?

You think interestingly enough, I had a sort of, I had an

internship at Square Garden, all South for me, right out of

college and I was kind of interested in seeing where that

was going to go, but I be helping out the Knicks, the

Rangers, something like that. And horse racing is always

called me. I've always loved horse racing.

When I was a teenager, I worked on the backside with some

harness horses at Yonkers Raceway and I guess the thing

was you know the internship, paid me five dollars interval

and a lunch voucher and I was actually going out in the real

world and making a little bit more.

More than $5 maybe 750 working for sports.

I know what had a real respectable job so I don't know

I it was always horse racing for me.

If not it would have been Madison Square Garden internship

and then maybe working at Starbucks.

Make sure you want with your preferred wood.

Yeah. And I'm not going to write your

name on this cup. What do you want?

Yeah, be great. Very pleasant latte.

Get out of here. I got a cold brew from Marfa.

Here's your 2000. Calorie drink.

Now, waddle out of here. Yeah.

Beats I feel makes a Rangers. Which one do you prefer?

Yeah, that's it. That was my father, wouldn't

prefer basketball basketball in play-by-play and color, because

there weren't that many people a that were interested in actually

doing radio, Nova, Southeastern University.

Be, we were on cable FM at the time, which meant that if you

hit a CB in your tractor trailer, you could listen to the

games or if you had a special bond.

Box in your dorm room which nobody had you can listen to the

game. So we experience you're like,

for people listening to the calls, huh?

Oh yeah, but there's some great calls.

Still got the kosher. Those four people, I mean, get

out of here rusty. That's the voice of the Derby

City. Two, cylinders, I totally I

totally get it. Who's Ellen basketball?

Fno. Yeah, I'll you know, just gonna

try to throw some things out. There was goes, great, players

love me! Who's this guy again?

Why is it in the locker room? Yes, they definitely the Aging

that they were bringing in to brief his job or something

about, you know. Yeah, this isn't the new

powerful word, take an ugly position Jackson, you know, you

sat like right near the the rim. So if the ball came too soon or

giant power forward was going for a loose ball, you know, you

were getting depth, I am I got to admit though, I'm kind of

excited because I'm going to be credentialed.

It looks like this year for Kentucky basketball, so it's

going to be pretty interesting to do.

If I don't, you're welcome should be good.

Yeah. Kidding.

It's not funny. Yeah, Mike.

All right, well thank you. That was horse racing 101 with

with a handicap or how about that.

So we've had a trainer, a barn manager and now I handicapper.

So we are making the rounds of people with in horse racing at

some point will We'll get back to, I don't know.

Well, maybe your trainer or groom at some point.

Probably. Hopefully get somebody on the

back side. Yeah.

We gotta know what it is that they actually do.

That'd be great. Yeah, there's a lot of different

jobs in horse racing, you know? So it's as diverse a sport as

you could probably find frankly. I'm as far as fighting stuff to

do for sure. All right.

So we re dealing handicapping. Can we start?

Can we start with Laurel? Yeah, sure.

Okay. Are you go that Ali shocking the

John's into that? Yeah the show.

She so we're going to talk to races at Laurel two of the three

stakes races. The we're going to start with

race eight which is the Laurel Dash a six.

Furlong Sprint race on the turf for three-year-olds and up

hundred thousand dollars. John periodic you go first let

me know what you think about who's gonna win a little Dash.

Then I steal here fill a 747 in and in the main body and And and

then two main track only' as much as I am.

Loathe to pick Morning, Line favors, I did land on number

two, midday image 925 on Automotive line.

For David Jacobson, who is very sharp with his trip was down

here. He has been sending quite a few

voices since late since early April and it had a pretty high

strike rate. This one is 13 in a row since

late December at Tampa Bay Downs, here is a pretty solid

field in his 2023 debut, which came At lower back on April

13th, based of fuel with a lot of solid Mid-Atlantic sprinters

beat them. Pretty soundly took a bit of a

hard time getting the front. Once you did though, he to eat

eat kick, clear impressively won by a length and three quarters.

We're in a big figure on on the business scale of 91, last time

out at Belmont Park kicked away easily.

Once again, after getting a good stocking, trip near the pace,

he's a no-show for him, should he?

Get a great trip and I think will be tough to beat it.

In fact, even though it's a step up in class on paper, I'm not so

sure this is a type of field. Then the allowance building saw

at da my last out. So I don't think this group is

to win him over tissue and and issued for him.

Any chance of rain, by the way on Slim is that.

It's a as of now a chance of thunderstorms Storms.

But at this time of the year in Maryland it's always a chance of

thunderstorms. So take that with a grain of

salt. All right, Dan, what do you

think? I agree with John that midday

images. The horse to be.

He's the most likely winner. He did have a perfect trip last

time out in New York. He just parked himself right

behind a speed dual. When those horses fell apart, he

inherited the win. He also is going to have to do

it without Lasix in this Stakes race.

So if you want to take two short of a price, you might want to

just try to find somebody else. There are two other horses in

here that caught my eye. Although Oh I do think midday

image probably gets through this race.

Smokin J's one of them we saw him in Kentucky last time out

and that was a race where he fell far behind.

There was no place for him at all and he was Motoring in the

stretch and I think I'll get a little bit more to run at in

this spot, but he'll be the alternative from abetting

standpoint is the second choice. So let's look for a bomb.

Let's try Noble of motion. This is a horse that I think's a

little bit dirtied up on for me, was in against Caravelle, who's

the best Turks printer in the country.

A couple of starts ago and last time out in the McKay Turf

Sprint. We were at them ago that day

that Turf course was yielding nothing, but Fast Times.

It was rock hard. It was speed.

Favoring The Source didn't get out to a good start.

He was last early and he lost all chance.

Getting back to Laurel with the longer stretch.

I think he'll be running at a price.

All right, Louis. Yeah.

I actually I really like smoke a J in this spot.

A brand behind bad. Be Brian last out whose whose

place in a Grade to. I mean this is that's a bed.

Be Brian's, a serious Turf Sprinter.

And so interesting to watch Danny's is, is witty going to

stay in this field. I see that we D is entered

Sunday, and I have a feeling, he might one Sunday, and I know

you're going because of his pedigree, I have a feeling, he's

going to run on son. Okay, that's what I assumed.

And so what have been the first move to?

To deter further for the Hendricks.

Barn there and not terse princes, and what the hedrick's

bar does. So I kind of assumed the move

would happen there, but yeah, no, I think smoke a j is a

serious contender in this spot 522, but I do midday image.

I mean, is absolutely the horse to be here.

Like Dan mentioned, if you're looking for an angle it's going

off of Lasix horses never one without Lasix and so if you were

looking for a reason for that, that would be it but the non

Lasix race he's been in before was against gufo, which is a

little bit different than what we're talking about here at.

So might be one that I can run back but again I think you can

go a little bit skinnier unusual in its first Sprint.

Usually, I like to gather a couple of horses for for a Turf

spread as far as a longer ticket.

But I think the 2 and the 5 here going to be your favorite race.

9 is the concern, some furlongs on the dirt.

Three-year-olds only we're going to get to see John's favorite

horse, whoo honking engine because I've heard him say the

name to me thousand dollars is on the board here.

Short Field, Five Horses in his top-heavy.

Gee Dan. Can we just toss out the 1 and

the 2 here? I think you're probably tossed

out the 1 and the 2 here. The one should at least be

somewhat of a pace factor. Maybe he could affect the

outcome by bothering some other horses.

My goal in this race is to fade coffee with Chris.

I know he's dropping out of the Preakness.

I know he has run some very big races in Maryland and I know

he's turning back to a distance which I think he's going to

appreciate, which is sprinting, but I'm all-in with recruiter in

here, he's a sprinter, he's 444 lifetime sprinting, his last

race on Turf, I'm uninterested in his race on dirt to starts

back on the to turn mile, he destroyed that competition.

He's the best speed. I think he puts the one away

turning for home and he holds off Prince of Jericho Lucy.

How about you agree on recruiter?

Maybe Prince of Jericho is interesting here just because I

thought he ran. Above average in the chick line.

And that's, and that's great. Three company that's open

company and it at Pimlico. And so if he can turn back and

have a similar, you know, 109 type 64, a long effort, and hold

on to it that way under Sheldon Russell, I think he's got a

serious job, but I agree. I do think the recruiter is the

horse to beat here, coming out of that Lynch barn and so

interesting to see if he can get back to what?

Dan talked about here. Shortening, back up.

Hey, I'm stunned to hear. You say that about coffee with

Chris. Only in that.

I know you love that. That route to Sprint angle.

I really do like the righteous for an Especially at this sort

of elongated Sprint. I just think we're his best

race. He's won so many times.

I have a feeling we've seen his best.

I'm not sure we've seen recruiters best, I'm not sure

we've seen Prince of Jericho's best.

I just love recruiters early, speed Edge and I know coffee

with Chris is a fast Source. I do wonder if his speed is

going to be gold somewhat cutting back in distance

recruiters look good in his sprint races.

I just think he's going to be in front of me for help John the

breaking your heart, go ahead. No I think Sorry, this is a

matter of how many lines comes of Jericho wins by think he look

like much much the best in this group.

I think there's going to be a lot of speed in this one.

As you guys have noted Bristol channel on on the inside will

show speed. Recruiter is is going to go.

I have a feeling called with Chris is is also going to be

very pretty common, especially because as I've said, please

privately a few times. And now I'll say publicly, I

don't think anybody who gets was aggressive enough in the

fragrance. I think he was a National

Treasure, kind of walk and he really shouldn't have So I so I

kind of wonder if he's going to overcompensate here and and

maybe get coffee with Chris in a duel that he doesn't belong in.

And if the pace is fast from the Jericho has great article speed

as Luna. He closed.

Well for second in the chick Lang, he has shown a lot of fun

with on this track. He's won on a three times.

Run some big figures in those spots think seven.

Furlongs is a good reasons for him, he's already won a Stakes

going away at 7.12. Be coffee with Chris in this.

Ocular bid back in January. I think it's very sets up very

well for him. And at the top of the stretch,

he could have blow by an embattled recruiter and and a

talk with Chris and at 16th, Paul Sheldon has put away the

stick and discard him home. All right.

Damn dance shot. Wow, I love the confidence.

I really I would take the chick line with a grain of salt

because you remember that's the race where odds on favorite

broke down the other horse in the race one.

Somebody had to run second, he ran very well Prince of Jericho

that day he did and he can easily win this race and maybe

he will win by open lengths. And John, if he does, I hope

you're cashing. Okay, we're gonna move on a

church, Ellis as Louis likes to call it old trick Ellis, and

we're going to start with one. There's, I don't even think

there's any spot. I don't know.

There's no soy beans. You have his account matches?

Yeah. Soybeans.

And there's a, there's a water tower.

I've been told and they try to keep the horses off the road,

that's all it is. They're working on all states,

pick for here, we're going to start with, you know, you can

say this team Foster day, but the for delete Stakes alert

lately has been And to me this the star of the show so the gray

24 to lie, maybe not as as brilliant as it's been in the

past, check out these last couple of winners of the fleur

de lis. All right, last five winners,

cheaters, the devil. The true Scalia midnight be sooo

be late and blue prize. That's what kind of talent comes

to this race. We don't have some day, we'll

get a fill, your mare in this race that you've heard of,

before I apologize to the general public for that list of

unknown forces there. We don't have the star power, I

think in this one that those races but you know still going

to probably be good race Lily. Have you like here?

Yeah, I think I think there's a potential star in this race and

I kind of think that difference here in that you have a

four-year-old and a mo re who I think that could be, could be an

eventual Superstar. I don't know how other people

feel but that we are looking at a bunch of thunderstorms and

super high temperatures in Henderson this weekend.

And I'm wondering if we're not going to get some kind of wet

track or some kind of at least a lot of moisture in the track by

the time we run these races and if that's the case, by the way,

I think the two favorites are absolutely miles ahead of the

other horses in this based on their wet figures.

And so I think between a more a, the six and five Clary are I

think you can kind of wrap this all these Pearl.

Excuse me. Yes, polished Pearl, excuse me,

got any more clear in my notes and it so I think Mo re may

actually be a single if it is. Either good, muddy, whatever it

might be. I think she's just going to

absolutely eat it up. I think an interesting entering

here is the one Bella more coming back off the turf.

Turning in a recent solid second place in that grade 3 Falls City

over Thanksgiving at. Churchill behind, played hard,

played hard as a Churchill Downs.

Special, she's won her last two there.

I think the weather might affect her a little bit too much.

So I think maybe she's not a total play a 10 times, hitting

the board in 15 lifetime runs. If you need a horse underneath,

I think Bella more the one is one to use.

All right John What do you think?

Well, first of all based on what he said, I am glow surprised,

this phrase, it is not a great one.

Yet, you'd figure at some point through the, give it a lift,

maybe next year. If a Marae does move forward

and, and, and becomes a top post I do kind of agree with Louis.

I think it's, it is kind of hard to see past my new favorites,

Pauline's Pearl. Obviously a lot of back Class A

mode, where a has great wet form.

But but, but even though I was not, Fan of the last stowed in

the laughed troyan. What was I kind of like at?

Hopefully, a bit of a price is a lightly roast Billy, but I'll

stall number through it. Well, take Joe to the only

raised four times. It is this who takes debut, 13

times folk remain and add a total.

Pretty comfortably last November battle on a lead lead throughout

held on to win by a length. Since then she's won twice A2.

Turns last out at showed your back on me. 27th.

We had a huge race where off a pretty slow pace because there

was a bit topic clothes off of kicked away.

One very easily, Grant who best figure in months think he's

getting good at the right time. It is a big jump up in class but

I think the price is going to be right?

And if either of the top two favorite fall to, it'll be a

prime opportunity. Not only is this not a great

one, but they've actually no longer.

It's no longer when you're in for the Breeders Cup.

Discount death, they took it away.

So bizarre. Yeah, I don't get it either.

I mean this is what else do they have to do?

I don't quote me in a dress, made an almond approved.

So Dan how you liking this? One

must have been for wide five path.

On the first turn, she lost ground all the way on the back

stretch. She actually made a pretty

menacing. Run on the second turn and then

I think all that ground loss worked against her and she

flattened out late Luis mentioned that.

This one likes a wet track. If she gets that, I think she's

going to improve, but it's gonna have to because her last two

running lines aren't great. It's so funny that Brad Cox is

improved Amore off Todd Pletcher, so much.

I mean, I'm more a wasn't very good for Pletcher and they sold

the source of public auction. They got her to Brad.

Now, she's a great one. Steak sweater.

I kind of remember the old Amore so I'm always alone.

I better in a very tragic violence.

It's going to be such a great value either because she's got a

lot of upside was very, very impressive against a weak field,

but I also liked her last went on dirt.

I know they have high hopes for this source and win or lose

here. They're going to Saratoga and

look for some steaks, you know, under turf.

Alright, so we're going to move on to rayce 9, which is the gray

to Wise Dan right amount of 16th on the turf, four year, olds and

up. I I love know someday.

We should have a guy on named a and who's wise that would be

nice. Well, maybe you have a couple

day and eyes on that, you know, I'm not your buddy dance on this

channel. I grew that man when you think

about wise dance career and well I mean I don't even want to know

how many of these winds you had. Let me he once he He kind of got

into steaks company and started winning races you just didn't

stop. He lost, you know, three of his

like, last 20-something racist and it was unbelievable.

Just remember how awesome of a horse wives.

Dan was 23 431 Lifetime and he wised an memories for you Dan

Millman. Why really?

He was just a sham and I got a picture of him up here on my

wall with Johnny V aboard. Yeah, you know, we used to have

milers like that that would just show up every 23 months and just

dominate. Just like lure if you want to go

all the way back to the days of clay board and why Stan was a

throwback you showed up every race, you knew what you were

going to get, it was going to get a giant effort and someone

would have to run the race of their life to beat him.

I always was kind of partial to his half-brother successful Dan

who was a little bit ouchie but was okay on dirt world's run

some fast figures the Forgotten part of the family but why is

that was exceptional. Yeah it's just an awesome horse

you know I remember His first win in the Clark and that would

just how awesome it was for that and just that's when he kind of

came on my radar. So.

Alright, John P. Isaac will let you start here

and tell us who you like in the wisest and I'll say this about

why he's Dan to. I got to see him on Derby Day

2014 when he won, I was then. Yeah, order for the great moment

and as good as she was on grass, they do wish we had seen a bit

more of him on do because again as good of a career as he had, I

do think he could have had a John Henry stock.

What you want, multiple grade ones on both services but his

connections had other plans set piece is 4 to 5 here on on

Morning Line. Picking four to five.

Favorites is boring gonna try to of the horses.

Number one, Harlan Harlan, estate at 12:50 on the morning

like kind of jumps out to me trained by.

What both Beckman a very gataki style name though gets

definitely can't miss out on this one.

Reads twice at Churchill Downs. Over those spring me closed well

both times just missed First up, a brief layoffs in a head,

bobbing photo, after battling on the pace came off the page last

time out in in the only person in which he chased get smoking,

who all get to in a moment, got up and got throwed at 12:33

set-piece did end up kicking him that day.

That being said, if you are looking for a horse trainer, the

exactly like set-piece that much.

No reason why one mistake and close like that again.

Now before it gets smoking, five to one on bottom.

Lines for Mike Cassie and Makoto Santana.

He's, he's going to horse. I'm a bit wary of sometimes

because on paper he looks like a main speed and oppose deep ball

is like, oh if he's, he's made bead, he's a serious threat to

go get wild but he's been caught on the lead quite a lot,

especially against he says the hoses.

I mean, go back last year, LED most of the way.

A, at Saratoga toys came in fourth, post times, LED most of

the way in at Edward by They delayed, just barely.

Hold on a ghost in Polk. Large opening booze Bosstones.

Your handicap. Thank you seek, eat.

He'll he'll go out to the front and he'll call you caught in the

last few strides. If I had to play this race and

try to make money on it, I'd big money on a rather than just Cash

ticket. I might go for a hole in the

state gets Mogan Exacta box and Hope Island estate Let's get

smoking. And last few jumps we, we talked

about, you know, whether it's a real great to you're not, this

does not feel like you're great, you feel to me?

What do you think? Whoo set pieces here, so, that

elevates any any field of this size, or this?

This magnitude? Yeah, I don't know.

Great too - maybe, but yeah, I'll let Dan talk because I have

a long shot in this race, I really like.

All right, go ahead and he's won this race one, a couple of years

ago and it sounds right, but no real solid or Course you know a

millionaire, there are no wise stands in this year's edition of

the wisest and I really don't like this race at all.

I've looked at just about everybody.

I'm not a big set piece fan and after looking over all the other

contenders, I think he's just going to win if they keep him

out of trouble and he'll run them down late.

If I had to use another horse and maybe I would it would be

Camp hope and this is a horse that you know he showed a little

bit of back class in his career he won a Stakes race at

Keeneland back as a three-year-old.

Kind of lost his way. They dropped them into a

high-priced, optional claimer last time out.

And I wonder if that was one of those confidence-building wins

because you look pretty strong finishing that race off and

maybe if he can get back to what he used to be and this is not a

great True Green Tube filled he could perhaps pull off an upset.

All right, who's your long shot? I like a different horse from

that race. Actually play action passes. 25

here, 12 to 1 second off. The layoff here was in that race

that Dan just mentioned that camp, hope one I think that was

a absolute set up for this race and so I think the Medina Barn

gets Tyler in the irons. Again, I really like that at

Ellis Park, he said he's unconscious right now, at Ellis

Park, winning over 25% of his races.

He's close to 30. I think he picked off another

one today. And so I love the addition of

Tyler here, that 12:48 price because of who the connections

are, I think we're going to get every bit of that because of the

Medina name rather than something else.

And so yeah, I'm with Dan. I think it's not a question that

said pieces Is the class here for 47 lifetime at the distance?

And look, I mean when you're a Turf horse and you win a third

of your races routing, it's really unusual in North America.

That horse is win at that kind of clip.

And so especially in this company I expect him to win, but

if I'm going to play somebody underneath, I'll use the 5 here.

Play action pass. S off the left.

Brad, Cox is won this race. Three out of the last four years

so we'll see you then. Oh yeah.

Continues play action passes. Two for two on this Turf.

Course, tripod guys, I totally forgot that part.

Yes. Alright, we're going to move on

to The Stephen Foster Stakes, of course, name for the rider of My

Old Kentucky Home, Steven Foster, the father of American

music. However, Stephen Foster never

lived in the state of Kentucky. I generally only visited one is

it Augusta. Kentucky, has he lived in

Cincinnati John paszek? What famous actor was born in

Augusta? Kentucky?

I don't know. Oh, Danny Elfman do you?

No, no, no. George Clooney.

The house could help. His dad was a thing.

Is columnist in Cincinnati, Nick Clooney.

So I feel like I could have put two and two together there.

But yeah, so he played, he played basketball at Augusta

high school. So there you go.

Stephen Foster Stakes. Who do you like in this one?

Daniel will let you start. Well, you know, I'd like to see

smile, happy sort of jump up and become one of the better

handicapped forces in the country.

And if you runs his 110 buyers speed figure from The Alley

Sheba, he's probably going to win again.

He was 72 one in the alley Sheba, he might be favored in

here. I can understand anyone says, As

let's see it again, Rattle and rolls a horse that John and I

are fans of simply because he came up to our neck of the

woods, he won the Pimlico special to starts back and we

talked about a throwback, the source is a throwback, he's run

four times since the end of March, can he speak is not

afraid to run this Source. He has been sort of hesitant to

run up against the top top horses.

And I think it's really interesting that now he's going

to strike while the iron is very hot in the blame last time out.

He was supposed to win. The favorite Bryant Hernandez

wrote him with a tremendous amount of confidence.

He could have taken over the lead on the rail at the 5/16.

He decided to be patient. He almost got hemmed in you got

banged off the rail, a horse on the lead.

Got two monks, clear of him at the eighth pole and undaunted

Rattle and Roll, just ran him down in the last sixteenth he's

consistent and he's going to get some Pace in this race and I

think that we'll find out how good he is.

Listen, he was a great one. Winner is a two-year-old, he

didn't pan out his three, he's finding himself will be hearing

from him late and I think it'd be a better price than smile,

happy. John Piazza Q, love speed, bias

your. I'm sure you love the speed

bias, Rattle and Roll. You want speed bias to take

Route and rolled down because you cost you a couple thousand

dollars she did? Yes you did.

I did late take five with who I don't know.

All on black-eyed, Susan day. But if seed by someone left

photo, I would have won a few thousand more.

Another saying is, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I guess what I'm going to do that as denoted by A fan of go

out on the wall. He has 16 stakes races in the

past 12 months. He won a trio of them in the

back Kappa. Obviously, all you won the

American Derby on the st. Louis to be.

And when the Oklahoma Derby this year, he's won the been our Leah

Pimlico, special course, and the blame.

So for a horse whose the car was as much as he has.

I blow surprised, he's not getting as much hype going into

this race. Yes, they were all clear to us

and great threes. And this is the great one.

In fact, one of the strongest great ones we've seen this year,

70 Of the eight horses in here. Have one of greatest takes 20

speed by spin the other end and he missed by a nose.

So you think a horse who had proven himself over and over

again against very good horses and always kind of owns that

same varies where he gets his Pace shows his kicking winds

would be getting more respect her.

I feel like a lot of is going to his, his his stalemate smile

happy rather than him. We're out on.

All is for the one on our Mooring line.

Think at that phrase, he's a good play as denoted.

There's going to be a lot of speed in here.

West will power. Who won the Royals classic is

going to go. So is Big Cat winner.

Salado boy speed. Buyers should also be near the

pace, think if the half is around forty seven or so then

I'll set up very well for without on dolls, leg kick.

Who do you like here? And I allowed to love proxy in

this spot. I mean, I think we want to win

the race, right? Know us a little boy, one, the

San Diego handicap. I do a little boy.

I mean, that's still a little boys.

The horse. I cannot figure out in this

field because if he fires, he's capable of it.

But it's absolutely, absolutely. There's so much.

I don't know, there's a lot going on.

I think if any of about five or six horses win this race, I

wouldn't be stunned. They're about to that, I would

be stunned if they actually won this race there on the outside

in Last Samurai and happy American.

Like, Stuns probably a bad word but I would be surprised at

least I really like I really like proxy in this spot.

I think that he's consistent. I think that we're going to see

another good ride out of Joel. Rosario on him seems to be the

best jockey for him in this spot when he's not in.

You know what, he's not outside of Churchill and outside of

Oakland. He's, he's very good, right?

He's in this in this bubble and it's all I'm hoping the Ellis

Park is part of that bubble for proxy.

I do think stiletto boys. Absolutely a possible here.

I totally The aground Rattle and Roll.

I would not be surprised to speed by.

As finally does breakthrough win a race, like this, and if he can

run like he did at Pimlico and bring that back, remember, that

was a mile. And three sixteenths.

We're going half a furlong less. He wins that race.

If that race is a half of her long last.

So I mean at 12:48 get Louis eyes again I mean he's at least

in that conversation and then I mean smile happy.

I don't know what he has to do for us to like him.

He does seem to be a little better every other than he is,

you know. On consecutive races but that's

a very small, very small criticism of him frankly.

And so I think this is actually a very interesting field.

Sometimes in the Foster, we don't have interesting Fields

just because the summer schedule sets up the way that it does.

I think this is absolutely a great one field, very fun, but

I'll I'll put proxy on top but I think still little boy, might

surprise you. We're gonna move on to the

Teppan another horse. I kind of fell in love with when

I started cooking because covering horse racing and Just

you know her last year she won three races in three different

countries. She works in 11 different tracks

to run the machine. She went and won the cream Queen

and only three countries. Yeah yeah only three you

couldn't get one done in Mexico. She should have, you know, just

gone down in Mexico. Got one done.

Just an amazing amazing work. Yeah.

Who do we like here in the tapping Louis?

Listen, I'll let you start. Well, that this is, by the way.

This is how you close out a card with a two hundred twenty-five

thousand dollars takes raised. I wanted to high-five the

people. At Ellis, I'm not mad at Laurel

by the way, because I do think that last race at Laurel is

actually interesting. I do like the 25 clamor for for

not a big deal to lie. It's got a full C.

Oh no, it actually. It's a competitive field to.

So you know, once in a while we get the Nickels at at a laurel

or the 7500 and it's like, here are the two horses that are

going to be battling in the stretch in.

Here you go. In this case, I think we've got

a lot more to look at. I don't know how to say her

name. Is it shigera?

I have no idea. The five.

She's coming out of a WoW. Race at Churchill Downs.

I think she's going to get Ton of money from people who either

saw her or follow three-year-old Phillies on the turf here.

She's I mean, look, she bested allowance field by three and a

half lengths. I think that it's a field.

Also that included older horses, so that she's got going for us.

He's dropping back into three old company.

Here, she's very good as a two-year-old came off the bench.

She showed no rust in that race. I think she's a worthy favorite.

The only negative angle. If you wanted to have one his

trainer Phillip Bauer's, 04:12, off of this second off, the

layoff type race recently. This amount of time off I should

say she feels a little Different to me though.

I think she's absolutely got a shot here man, Heavenly Sunday,

the three strain by Brad Cox what a great to last out.

That's when you know, people are really excited.

About Shakira is that a great to Winter's coming into this race

and she's the second favorite. Favorite angle of mine, she's

carrying the most weight in this race.

Usually that's a sign that you've got the best horse to me.

That's a reason. Especially in restricted company

that her results are worthy. Wonderful, ladies in here,

longer odds. Again, we get Tyler on a longer

odds. Horse here.

Kentucky rates one. I doubt very much that a Walsh a

file, your own combination is going to be a 2-1.

By the time we get to post time, I think that the other two

favorites actually do might attract a lot of money so we

might get a 5 2016 21 on her, which would be really, really

attractive. I think she's improving.

I think she's got a real shot here as well.

I don't know what to do with sofyan.

I've had a real hard time translating the horses who have

run well on the turf. At we're seeing more of this

here locally guys because there are no claiming races and no

lower level Turf race Aces in Kentucky right now and so our

entire spring has been allowances and steaks on the

turf here. And so the horses that are in

that in-between group or in the lower group have been shipping

up, either to Indianapolis or to Cincinnati and so we watch what

we watched us. Affin go up to Indianapolis

150,000 dollars, takes against three-year-olds five rounds.

She's never missed the board speed figures.

Improve the last four times out. I think she's an upset

candidate. So that two through five group

is interesting. I do have sugar on top and I

would use the three in the second spot.

All right, John Piazza. What do you got?

Yeah, I think it's one of the for the lowest mention a topic

probably would be wonderful lady as I think should be the best

value in the field. I agree.

Hopefully, she'll slip through the cracks and go off at about

five or six to one who is in Europe last year.

They do too much in her American debut back in April at

Keeneland, but did show a nice kick to win at Turtle last time

out gets Kathleen back in the saddle.

Of course been almost entirely always a good combination

secure, the five harshly worthy of respect, but drooling, leepu

is my white whales. If I pick around town, you'll

probably blow it and if I play against to, hopefully, give a

great gonna win. So, but I will pick one of the

lady on top. I did I want to price and I like

the seven girl named Charlie and here was a Stakes Winner at the

distance. Three starts back at the

fairgrounds, and I can make excuses for her last two races.

You got beat by Heavenly Sunday in the Edgewood.

She had not have a good trip in that race.

And last time out of Mile and an eighth is a little bit too far

for her and she was way too aggressively ridden.

This is a Philly, the likes to sit back and mid-pack and make

one run. They went right after the early

leader in that race and she paid the price.

So she's cutting back in distance.

She's going to Vert to the rating tactics that work well

for her. And she's going to be a price

for a trainer Tom Amos there was lots of races.

Love it. Well fellas and that that regret

field was a lot better than this one to dance point.

And so if you're if you're looking for a price, I agree on

that one. Appreciate you guys joining us.

As always, we're going to pay the tab.

We're going to get out of here and hang on, hang on.

Let's let's let them publicize where they work and what they

want me in there on here. So much of that work here.

Now, do people find this show all the time on cold.

That's true. All right.

Yeah, John Piazza. Where can people find?

You find me personally at their off.

You want to grab what's going on with Maryland?

Reds or what's going on at the Miller for slavery?

You know, search and Maryland at Merlin.

TB Guana Merlin horse a.com slash waiver, who find out

what's going on. At Apple iBook always a lot of

fun events and fun books coming in all the time.

And I also wanted to special mention to the jameelah steaks

at wall on on, on Saturday for Maryland, verdure Merlin sorry,

please a nice feel. They're probably a long shot

gift tag at 12:45 on the Morning line.

When key to our last time, think you could do it again at a good

number. Damn, where can people find you

on Twitter at drf underscored an element you can find me a

drf.com writing the analysis for Maryland and writing all the

Recaps and advances for the Mid-Atlantic region and the

Daily Racing Form YouTube channel, where I wear a sports

coat. When we actually do our videos,

let's do like a three-minute Preakness weekend recap.

Okay, that's fair. Did we do the right thing Dan

Omen by setting up shop The fake bar at the top at Pimlico so

that we could say hundreds of people came by the show.

I thought it was a brilliant, move myself.

Plus you had the choice pick of the food before the the animals

from the Press Box, came up and filtered everything.

That's why, what's that beer cooler is like right nice.

Huh? Yes right there.

Yeah. Oh yeah.

Oh yeah, yeah. They do it.

They do it right up in the code is what it is now and we had our

security guard too careless. Man.

That's a big issue is great. What?

Um, I have to ask When did they? Because I confronted an about

this. When I was at Pimlico, the

handwritten scratches. I'm still mad about this and

Mike's Terry's like exhausted hearing about this.

When did that go away? Because I'm still, I'm still,

obviously not over. The handwritten scratches

probably went away with the Advent of this.

There's, there's this new invention called the computer.

Now, it was two years ago, who is still trying to figure that

one out. Yeah.

Like old school and get 0 as possible.

Basically what it comes down to it.

I get it was just, it was delightful fragrance the

opposite ago. Yeah, I have to say, one of the

best things that happened is we discovered.

You could just sit at a picnic table, near the finish line and

take in the rest of the races, which is great.

So met a lot of nice people and John pop by when he was in

between glitterati visits with Marilyn, people in that kind of

stuff. So we appreciate John pretending

to know. So it was nice.

Yeah. Then Louis went got a Seafood

Tower at when we go out to dinner and Joey did I'm saying

this to Mike and Louis, that's why he's probably has the best

menu of any restaurant I've ever been to like, like I could get

20 times or 220 different things and the probably love all,

that's because it's crab Centric and I love crap.

So there you go. The crab legs on that.

On that Tower were fantastic but they were really good.

So Dan I guess your invitation got lost in the mail.

I don't know what happened but that's all right.

It's called deadlines and Dan has them, we don't there.

That's true. That's by 19 lengths.

I was like my day is done. I can go.

Alright now we're going to create a brand.

Horse Racing Happy Hour
