Let's get after it. Oaks Day here in the

Commonwealth alongside Barry Spears.

My name is Laura Bow and this is the horse racing happy hour duo

that you see every Friday and certainly throughout the racing

ear. Thanks for hanging out with us.

Got you. For the next 4 hours.

They push back the post time but it does not push back the show

437-9680 is our UPS jobs text line.

If you are listening from outside of the area like so many

people do on these two days, we appreciate you being here number

one, but #2 You're welcome to text us your thoughts during the

show. 502 24379680. Go find us at ESPN 680 as well.

Barry's online at Urban Handicapper.

I'm online of course at Radio Louie.

We'd love to have you for those reasons.

Barry. Happy Oaks Day to you man.

Got you up here for one of these things.

Yeah, Happy Oaks Day, my man. Oh, finally.

Yeah, no, it's been a long time coming, bro.

You and. I though we're checking the

boxes here, man. You're you're checking some

boxes and doing some good stuff. Your first Oaks today, Pretty

excited to get you out there for that and you know, get all the

good things rolling today as far as just getting out of the

bunker. We'll get out of the bunker, get

out there, enjoy some sunshine today.

Should be a lot of fun. But you know, we'll have a

couple of handicappers on with us today.

All of you know Dan Issel, he'll join us at 11:00 today out there

in Denver. Do a couple segments with him,

get his thoughts on the card today and of course, on the

Kentucky Derby itself. A personal friend of ours, John

Piazza, will join from New York City.

He works at Yonkers racetrack. Johnny P, we call him on the

program. He's a Jersey guy.

You got to remind me. Tanner's in hanging out with us

today at the studio behind the glass, all the things.

What is You're a Connecticut guy, not a Jersey guy, right?

I think you're just a devil's fan.

Yes, Connecticut, but Devil's Fan.

Boom. OK, that was had to get that

out. John's.

Always Jersey guy. Connecticut is always confusing

to me because like half the state are.

Red Sox. Half the state are Red Sox fans.

Half the state are basically Yankees fans.

It's crazy. And then we got a few like Mets

fans. Yeah, we just throw.

Yeah. Yeah.

That's that's usually that happens.

You already have to commute an hour to have to go to work.

And I mean I just. And catch it.

The first lie, the first text to 10 O 2 is about a dating app,

but we're not, we're not doing that. 437-9680 is just a text

line. Barry, heading into Oaks Day,

one of the things that you and I have been doing throughout the

week is we've been talking to people around the country who

have seen these courses up close.

But Barry, in an obvious way, you and I are two of those

people. We've been travelling around

seeing many of these preps and seen many of these horses in

person, including, you know, runners like Zany who'll be

running today. You saw in the Suncoast just a

few months ago there at Tampa when she won that race.

Of course, we've also seen horses like Meaning who ran in

the San Anita Oaks, but before that the Las Virgenes.

Lots of different horses that you and I have gotten to see in

a person. But Barry, as you think through

the Oaks field here and we've we've had some pretty heavy

number of scratches to the point that resists the 17 will break

from the 13. That's that's, that's unusual if

you yes, but you know, Bella Ballerina out of this field, you

know, we're not gonna be seeing Nikon in this field, that sort

of thing. Anybody scratch out that really

affected your handicapping? Not today, not not so far.

So I I think we'll be alright. We got some good plays, I think

some prices. Hopefully it's been a semi or

mostly chalk fest the last couple of days, so hopefully we

can break that trend. Texture Louis.

I'm leaving Derby City down 100 bucks.

Oaks baby, let's go. To be fair, I'm up 3 bourbons.

These are my people. These are my people.

Horse racing ambigans just drags them all in text her My friends

and I created a dating app called the transfer portal

that's pretty good. That's pretty good text her.

Hey Louie, who ready to smoke? I'm Yep Yep.

Yep, Yep. You do you, buddy 437 I say, is

that ready? Are we, is that ready?

My boy? I got my, we got.

I got my cigars on me. Don't worry about me.

But looking through the Oaks field today, you know, I know

who you like here, but a horse that that you did see in person

is zany doesn't get the benefit of the longer stretch of

Keeneland because she runs in the Ashland over that mile on a

16th course. When you saw her on Tampa Bay,

that was on the CMF Davis day. Excuse me, Suncoast, obviously

one of those preps right before and they do that odd thing in

Tampa where they go to the grass afterward for the for the

Florida Oaks on that race. But what did you see from her?

The Suncoast. You know, Zany's definitely a a

horse that's talented enough and earned her spot into this field.

I I'm just not sure how much of AA killer she has in her.

A few years back Pletcher had a horse that was I, I feel it was

kind of similar that went that route that was much better.

But she's kind of wishy washy. You know, the the races she's

coming out of aren't, I don't think particularly that strong.

But that doesn't mean that she's not talented enough because

sometimes you get, you know, the big fish in the small pond sort

of deal and it's hard to tell when they line up against

similar company. She didn't draw well.

I don't really particularly like the 2 draw in this race.

And she's going to try to get a trip that everybody's going to

try to get and being on the inside, it's not that great.

So I'm not too keen on her chances, but she certainly has

the talent enough to win. I'll say this scratched out a

couple days ago, but my Miss MO I thought was probably going to

inherit the lead in this field. Barry was probably going to be

the pacesetter, not going to be in there for Safi Joseph Junior.

Obviously Michael Husbands was to ride there.

Does that fall now to dazzling Dame?

Like, is she going to be the one that tries to get out there?

Yeah, Yeah, I I think that that will.

Be, by the way, I think that's what she needs to do.

Yeah, and, and it might actually carry her a long way now that

there's some scratches like Bella Ballerinas out that

lessens the pace. But you still got a couple in

there like Pashmina and Dazzling Dame and another couple of

horses like Prom Queen is definitely going to be prominent

pushing the pace, not necessarily being on the pace or

wanting the lead. So it it it still could be a a,

a fair, contentious, genuine pace which would set it up for

our other runners. I think too, with going back to

Dazzling Dame, are we kind of just underrating her because she

didn't win the Virginia Oaks? And I know she got.

It kind of beat up that day, but I mean, if she gets back to the

form we saw in the Busanda match, I think she could be a

problem here. Yeah, yeah, I I don't see why

she couldn't be. I this this race, like I said,

didn't really draw up as well, at least post position wise,

because a lot of the speed is coming from the outside and, and

horses like Zany that I just mentioned will will have all

those horses coming down on them and it and it makes for a tough

run because you get shuffled back.

Hopefully a horse like Zany can get up and be close enough to

where they can kind of pick their spot.

You know, that's really where the versatility comes into play.

Whoever can do that and agile enough to do that and not get

stopped, we'll probably win the race.

Talk with Barry Spears. My name's Lou Urbo.

This is the Horse Racing happy hour.

We're doing our Live Oaks edition of the program.

Gotcha. Till 2:00 today.

Just getting underway here. Johnny P Johnny Piazza will join

us up next from Yonkers and the the mind of Maryland in two

weeks. We'll definitely be picking his

brain ahead of the Preakness and all those races down there.

But we'll talk with Daniel starting at 11:00.

He'll hang out for a couple segments today as well.

Barry Spears across from me, Louis or both.

Thanks for hanging out with us. 437-9680 our UPS jobs tax life,

502-437-9680. Again, if you would like to text

the show. But coming into today, Barry,

you know, taking in the races yesterday, any biases to you?

Anything like that? I thought, for example, I think

whatever kind of runner you are on the turf course, if you work

out a trip, you've got a shot this weekend.

I think it's playing incredibly fair.

If you're a front running speed type, I think you could probably

hold on, but it feels like presser's closers a little more

on grass, on dirt. I I.

Can't. Either way, I.

I was going to say I don't think there is a bias.

Yeah, it seemed. Fast.

Fast, but not not unfair. Yeah, it seemed fair yesterday

on the on the dirt. I I would say closers probably

have a little bit of an advantage on the turf course.

I think that's probably right from what we've seen, like the

Mam Zell yesterday was kind of a good.

Example of that, I haven't really seen anybody go wire to

wire in that sort of fashion. And the turf course doesn't seem

to be hard. Usually when it gets dry and

hard, that's when it when you get those fast times and it's

like a pool table, but it it seems to be pretty fair.

Yeah, I think it's very play pretty fair and frankly they've

they've listed it as firm all week display many of the days of

rain been willing to have workers on it this week which is

pretty awesome. And so I you know, I I was a guy

who was very concerned about the turf course when they did the

renovation and frankly it just didn't work the first time they

had to go back and really try to fix it and is obviously but

shored up in a very, very serious way.

But looking at those races from yesterday Barry and some of

those results that we did get any surprises.

Cyfair I thought ran the kind of race that we're hoping we get

from him over and over. Frankly, as a young 3 year old

here only 4/10 of a second off the track record in the Manziel.

Yeah, he's very impressive. She she just kind of was loaded,

got the trip of a lifetime. I would expect the buyer number

to be pretty big on that horse. But yeah, did exactly what they

wanted to do and and should be a force come down at the end of

the year. It was a 1/2 that we sort of

expected to be the 1-2 if the class showed up.

Cy Fare finished first. This was race 11 yesterday at

Churchill Down. Slay the day, run second.

I think that's a horse that can get better.

We've seen that 5 furlong speed for sure at Gulfstreet Park.

Yeah, yeah, it was impressive. This horse keeps taking the show

on the road, as they say, and showing up and and running big

races. Yesterday was no exception.

And another second place finish. I mean, this horse is is is

another one that's going to be a force.

I think there might be a little bit of a a nice rivalry

developing there. By the way, hang out with us

throughout. We will have live races during

this show, so we'll carry those. We'll give you our picks for

races 1-2 and three today before we go off.

Airberry. I think that's very fun.

We should also mention horse racing. happyhour.com.

All of our thoughts, all of our plays will be up there.

But today, no cost to you. Just click on tip sheets at the

top of the homepage and you can find all of the work that Barry

and I do together at that spot as well.

So we would love to have you as a follower of the website, but

you don't watch of the races yesterday with you, Barry.

Just take it in and try to figure out what you know, what

the biases might be and all that kind of stuff.

It just was a day where, you know, payout's not great for

most of the races. You'd have that spot where I was

like, oh, the Super high 5 was the player, this was the play,

that sort of thing. But you know, like a horse, like

Maximum Bourbon. Is there anything we could learn

from that Sprint yesterday in the Saint Matthews?

Is there is there anything we can glean from that or was he

just the best horse yesterday? I think he's just the best.

Yeah. So that's where I mean, just

talk about the bias of the track.

I just don't know that there is one.

I mean, Flavin Pratt put this horse right in the race and and

kind of did what he was supposed to do.

I thought he was impressive. It wasn't sort of like he fell

into a good trip. He made that trip work and and

and finished it off and and looked really good doing it.

He got a one O 3 last time in the in that optional claimer.

I'd say he's probably going to hit that number again.

That's pretty great, man. Nice check for them.

And by the way, Maximum security, you know, Roger and

the guys up in Indiana, not Roger himself, but part of that

group owns Maximum Security now stands at stud in Indiana, in

Indiana, Brad, with all those states that you can run all

those $100,000 races and pop down here and have one that's

good enough to win in this spot. I mean, let's go, man.

That's that's a value sire is what I'm talking about.

But yeah, so the Saint Matthews was race 10 yesterday.

The other turf race yesterday was the opening verse and

Laganos got down. And Barry, this was the moment

of the day for sure. You and I happen to be at

different spots for this race. And and you just you texted me.

Oh, I can't believe Laganos lost that race.

And I just text you, bro. I think he got his nose down.

That is the ultimate nose down of nose down.

Yeah, for sure. I think in 2026 to this point

it's the closest one I've seen. Yeah, it looked like Chasing the

Crown was was ahead of Laganos and he just got his nose down

and it was incredible. Bob.

You know, Chasing the Crown was a horse I just did not like at

all. Thought he had a couple of

dressed up trips but ran well. Juan Hernandez did a great job

getting that horse in position to to win that race and just got

nipped. Tex were texting that Cyfair got

a 112 Equibase speed figure yesterday.

I'm going to go in and look and see what that number compares to

That's the highest of his career.

So that that's what I'm talking about or her career.

Excuse me, I with Cyfair Barry, it's an interesting division,

the turf spreading division because she ran yesterday.

We'll see. She's so spicy today.

We'll talk about her later in the program with both John and

Dan and then you and I individually.

That division is turning out to be pretty fun and I don't, I

know you're like me. I don't need it to be a 10

furlongs for it to be a fun division.

No 5 1/2. Totally fine.

Oh yeah, and by the way, you were a huge fan of.

She's so spicy in the in the Breeders Cup.

And so it's it's a division that you see, well, you know, in in

your own in your own side there. I just, you know, second off the

layoff here, getting Cyfair back into this kind of spot will be

fun to see her. And, you know, maybe, I don't

know, probably at Saratoga next, that sort of thing.

And then, you know, almost certainly throughout the year,

But I think eventually probably a Kentucky downsource and then

off to the Breeders Cup again here in Kentucky at Keeneland.

But Cyfair, I think was the performance yesterday, Barry,

that gave me the first like, oh, OK, that's a horse.

We'll see again this year at A at a higher level than a listed

stakes and I'm not putting this, you know, hers is a grade 3.

Right yeah, established herself, you know, as as a four year old

to to kind of springboard into a three-year old That's right

that's right yeah. Into these three-year old races,

there's not many of them, so you'll see that they'll show up

in in kind of listed stakes in grade threes, grade twos,

because there's not really a whole lot of high level grade

one, type 5 and a half, 6 furlong races.

But this horse is going to be a force.

And I think you'll see her run against the boys this year.

I would like. She's so spicy and I think we're

getting to a point in turf sprinting in our sport that that

just happens. Yeah, it's getting the.

Alexandras of the world kind of set that up and now we're really

benefiting from horses like that.

A texter 20 to 1 bomb. All right, what is that about?

Hey, Louis and Barry, race 4 today.

Bet the number 10. I love these text, Barry.

These are my people. You understand.

You know why I love this market because of this.

These are my people. It's a South end show, but we're

doing the dark thing as I wear this vest, I look very unsouth.

End. I apologize for saying that out

loud. San Antone.

This horse got a horrible trip and his main debut at Keeneland.

Bell should have won that race as Kimura misjudged the finish

line, but the tennis live jockey switch to She he.

Hey, I love the Blind Squirrel seminar. 20 to 1 bomb.

All right, there you go #10IN Race 4 today.

We will get to that race as part of our coverage later on as

well. Find all of our picks up at

horseracinghappyhour.gov. Everything's free.

Same number for Maximum Bourbon. By the way, who do you think

looked better yesterday? I thought Maximum Bourbon.

I thought Max. Actually kind of broke out and

that was one of those performances where we go, what's

the next stop for that horse? Is it on?

Is it on a Belmont day? Is it, you know, do you try

something that high level or are you looking for, I don't know,

something on Matt Winday maybe here at Churchill Downs and, you

know, right after, you know, right around the Belmont.

I guess it's the week before. Whatever it might be, I, I don't

know. I would, I would.

Gather they would try to find another stake race that was

similar if not a little bit higher in in class, but if they

stayed here that that wouldn't be.

I think it makes sense. Yeah, I think that's pretty

logical, but Texture wants us to explain what a rag number is.

Oh Ragazan Sheets. It's a speed figure that this

guy Len Ragazan made a long time ago.

The thing about the rags is they taking into account ground loss

that a lot of other speed figures and and connotations

kind of don't. But it's it's how I feel about

speed figures and and any kind of horse racing data.

They all kind of do the same thing.

It's just a matter of how the presentation is and how you

interpret it and how what you feel comfortable with.

They're all they all can be effective, you just have to know

how to use them. And I think too, a lot of us use

as many data points as we can when we handicap.

And so if you can add a rag sheet, that kind of thing to

your data points, You know, you hear other guys talk dosage,

other guys talk whatever, these different kinds of forms and

different things. But to answer your question,

texture, because he's the guy who hangs out with the show.

It's a metric. Essentially, it is a it's a Ken

Palm. It's a, you know, it's that kind

of thing where, you know, we're putting together all the factors

of the race and then we come up with a, you know, they, the type

of figure that's based on this and there's negatives and

positives and all that sort of thing.

We don't have to. We don't have to do a deep dive

into what 1. Thing though but.

They are. I mean there are very good

handicappers that I trust that use the rags everyday.

Yeah, yeah. One thing you know as a

handicapper that you want to keep in mind is that it's not a

magic number. None of these are magic numbers

where, oh, the highest number wins.

If it was that easy, we'd all do it.

So there, there's a lot of context to it and, and once you

put all those things together in conjunction with that number,

you probably get a good idea of who's going to do what in a

race. 437-9680 keep them coming on the UPS jobs text line.

By the way, Barry and I happy to answer any questions.

We know that there are many of you that might be betting today

or watching today or going today that usually don't.

And that's, that's great. By the way, we're, we're happy

you're here. Let's hang out and have fun with

us. That's what Barry and I, we love

this thing. So we'd love to share it with

you. So if you have questions,

they're not dumb to us. What's a rag sheet?

It's not a dumb question. It's not a rag number, whatever.

Those are not dumb questions. Taylor, you already had a break

here, buddy. Why don't we do that on the

other end? We'll talk with a mutual friend

of ours, a mutual attendee of the 100th Wood Memorial.

That's actually just a statement of fact.

Name's Johnny P We talk to him next.

All right, welcome back, kid. Horse Racing Happy Hour Oaks Day

edition of the program. His name's Barry.

I'm Louis. Hanging out with you until 2:00

today. Later post time means we're just

doing more radio folks. 437-9680, 502-437-9680.

We'd love to hear from you on our UPS Jobs Tech slide.

You can get a hold of us, ask us questions, get into that.

Texture wants us to comment on how you use tip sheets that

select three to four horses per race like most pickers do.

You can't bet three or four horses to win every race.

Barry I would say that in my personal handicapping, usually

for me personally, my top 2 are horses that I think have a

legitimate shot to win the race. And they are either a

combination of they're just so likely that I'm I'm worrying

less about price, or they're likely enough that the price is

more that justifies throwing them into the ticket, if that

makes sense. And so that third horse usually

is one that I put in an exacta box.

So if I'm playing, if I'm just looking at my tip sheet today,

for example, with my top three, if you wanted to follow me for 6

bucks a race, box up those three horses in an exacta for $1.00.

It's 6 bucks a race. We hit two of those.

You're going home with money. Yeah.

I mean, it's that kind of. Interesting because, you know,

the way that we play or someone plays is is kind of quote UN

quote personal. It's very personal.

Because me personally, I stick with my on top horses till no

end. I don't box typically that's a.

Good point, actually, yeah, You're more of a what we call a

cold player, a straight, a straight ticket.

Player. I feel that it's it's

inefficient because for every bet that you make, you're not

always getting a return and it eats in the profit.

So I'd rather go with what I go straight.

That's how I got the nickname Sniper.

A lot of straight bets, straight tries, straight exactas.

But I guess I'm with you in the same sense.

When I do give out picks, usually the first two are horses

that I think could probably win the race.

Yeah, no, no doubt about it. Horse racing, happyhour.com for

all of that. Johnny P is on the fault.

We talked to him now bring him in from New York City, NY City.

You probably don't remember. Pace Commercial.

Yeah, he doesn't know Pace, do you know the Picante?

Johnny P Do you know about the Picante?

No, I don't. He's.

Too young? But it must have been pretty

good. It's still like reference for

you all these years later. So I will take your word for.

It oh fantastic a bunch of old Cowboys sitting around a fire

for no reason like that has anything to do with Tex Mex.

It's fantastic. John Piazzic with us at their

off on the socials. You always hear him as part of

any of our Maryland coverage, but he's just a good friend of

the two of ours. And so John, we were reminiscing

this morning driving in about weather because Barry's

complaining about it's 55 out right now.

And I told him to just shut up because like, we've had some

pretty terrible days. And I was like, do you not

remember the wood with, you know, go to the wood memorial

with John last year? I mean, come on now, you're man,

you know, did you get over for the wood this year or did you

just go last year? I did go this year and it was

funny because it started off as a very nice day, you know, upper

60s, sunny, fast track. And then as the day went on, it

got worse and worse and worse. I think by the time the wood

went off, it was like an upper 40s and raining.

But I thought, you know, it's the last wood at Aqueduct.

It should be weather like this. Like Aqueduct was not built for

75 to 3 days. It was built for it being cold

and visible outside. So it was a very apropos weather

for the final wood at Aqueduct. Good stuff there.

John Piazza with us on this is the horse racing happy are

hanging out with you on ESPN 68105 A7.

You know, just looking. I don't I don't know how much

you got to watch yesterday here at Churchill Downs, but

something we always try, but you know, to put together John is

what the track looked like. I was saying with Barry earlier,

we feel like maybe right now just a lot of the moisture is

still listed as firm and I'm not, you know, I think it it the

track has looked incredible, frankly, on the grass side of

things here at Churchill all week that listed firm.

But enough moisture in the grass that boy, it's just been a

little tough for those front runners to stay out front.

But on the dirt side appears fast, fast, fast.

And if you're in a stalking position, you've got a real

shot. Did you notice anything

yesterday? Well, I did not because I have

had a very busy week, because I, no, because I I I would be

permissive if I did not mention this is that in addition to Oaks

Day, my sister is getting married today.

So no matter what happens at the windows, it's going to be an

amazing day. She knew it was Oaks Day.

Yes, she did. I It has not been said

explicitly or even implied, but I will not mention the words

Oaks or Derby in her presence this weekend.

But John, so did you miss it? Oh, I can't remember a Black

Eyed Susan or a Preakness for your sister.

This is this is a lot of horse racing that your sister's making

you a. Trend.

It is a. Well, I missed last year's

Preakness because she graduated from law school everyday, but

fortunately I was still able to go.

The Black Eyed Susan I had at least before the Black Eyed

Susan because I had to get dinner with her.

But I mean, obviously, you know, I think is there's an Oaks Day

every year. She's only getting married once

and it's so I'm willing to sacrifice for and, and I was

able to squeeze in Oak's handicapping last night after

you texted me. So it's all a win, win, win,

win, win. I have no qualms.

I love it. Cy Fair wins yesterday in the

Mamzelle man, I think that's a that's the notable win

yesterday. Just a young 3 year old Philly,

but really fast, second best speed figure ever in her career

takes down that Mamzell, you know, first time winning as a

three-year old. I think that's that's a horse to

watch move it through 2026. Absolutely.

And to your point earlier about track biases, I will always

defer to people like you who follow Churchill much more

closely as far as track biases go.

Because my take on track biases, especially on big days, people

try to look for them and make things and kind of make them

happen. But to me they should be a

plainly obvious and B not just like a bunch of front running

winners bought a bunch of front running winners or a bunch of

closers or whatever who don't make sense and like would not be

winning if not for a bias track. And I think you really only get

that from people who have handicapped these races in depth

and and handicap them in depth all the time and know how the

track is going to play. So I will say especially for for

any new players out there, if you see a horse win race one in

gate to wire style and you see people going off about a speed

bias, just be careful. Like it's probably probably not

as be biased as you think. John Piazza with us from Yonkers

Raceway and of course at their off on the Socials.

A must follow for all the good work they do at the sporting,

excuse me, at the Racing Biz. Sporting Biz at the Racing Biz

as well does a bunch of Maryland handicapping at Laurel Park.

We'll talk to John again ahead of the Preakness Stakes in just

a couple of weeks. Barry and I making the trip to

Laurel for that one should be a lot of fun.

Is there a particular undercard stakes that you're interested in

today that that the field jumped out to you?

So a few of them I thought were pretty interesting in the 8 bell

sticks, which is 8 #8 appropriately, I think #2 French

fiction or friction rather. It's kind of interesting.

I think her price is going to be driven up.

She's 6th one on morning line. I I think it's going to be

driven up by the fact that she lost the Ashland so badly last

night. I mean, she set the pace, lost

by 15 length, but she was going a mile and a 16th.

If you look at only her one turn lines, either of her previous

races, I think when this one fit easily, I mean she set blazing

fast fractions in the Dixie Belle Stakes, 2 starts back,

threw away one easily, ran a huge figure.

Now she's going a 7 furlong switch she's never done before.

But I think it's more her speed. I mean, if she stays near her

morning line, I think she'll be a tremendous value.

Yeah, I I've got her in my top 3 for sure.

Barry, I saw you kind of not. Not fist pumping.

I won't go that far, but nodding in in vigorous agreement.

Yes, but much, much bigger this morning here on the Horse Racing

Happy Hour. Yeah, no, I agree with Johnny a

little bit here. I I think they just got into a

race. They they were just over their

heads. They didn't want to go that far

and and it makes. Sense to try the Ashland because

it is that short stretch and you're going to find out hey,

can we do the two turn thing at all?

Well, we found out maybe not, and so let's go back and join

the these. Things learn their lesson the

first time, you know, we'll get horses that'll get multiple

tries at that kind of thing and then finally get back to what

they need to be doing. But that's one of the horses

definitely on my radar. Yeah, daughter of City of Light

there. Between the two favorites there.

John, if you were looking at one, would you try the graded

stakes tested on Time Girl or the newcomer in Goodall?

I have on time girl, I think I took a second in my little

unofficial picks. She's in kind of a similar boat

as friction in in that she went a mile last time, wasn't quite

her speed. She was dominant at 7 furlongs

in in her previous start, won the forward Gal by three

lengths. And I do think class plays a

role in these races more than folks might think.

I've seen so many forces who dominate, you know, lower class

races, especially in the Mid-Atlantic.

And then they'll try top of steaks and they can't always

hang. I mean, Goodall has been in

fantastic form, but she's been doing it made in company and

then and listen, thanks company on time girl does have the

greatest takes advantage. So if the two go off at similar

prices I would take on time girl between those two.

On time girl will break from the outside in the 9 post daughter

of not this time. Of course I feel like Barry,

that's the thing we say the most when we mentioned Cyrus is a

daughter of Not this Time or intimacy.

Well, once we get to that two turn sort of thing.

I wanted to ask you about the alley Sheba for sure, John.

We're talking with John Piazza out there in New York at Yonkers

grade 2 mile and a 16th here. These are, you know, John, for a

couple of years we had a real dearth of of good handicap

races, handicap division races, if you will.

But boy, not this year already with the Oakland Handicap, this

version of the Alley Sheba 2. I think of this, you know, John,

one of the things we always do on the horse racing happy hour

is, hey, is this a Grade 1? Is this a grade 2?

What is it? I think this is a real Grade 2

in in the truest sense. You've got Grade 1 winners in

this race, multiple of them, frankly, between Baeza, Skippy,

Longstocking. Obviously you've got a rising

horse in Grande to Pan St. who comes out as a Grade 1 winner

himself out of the Florida Derby.

I mean, this is a really nice version of the Alley Shiva.

It's a fantastic field and and I was going to go go even further

and say it would not shock me impending on how the winner of

the Alley Shiba does this year. If this race got grade one

status last year. I mean next year, you know, it

drew a tremendous field as a grade two this year.

It has a big post so I would keep an eye on that.

I like Disruptor in here quite a bit.

Unfortunately, he has been scratched.

So I am leaning towards Grande, who folks might recall was

entered in Derby last year. He was scratched and did not

resurface until February, but he has run well in both of his

starts this year. He beat a second level allowance

deal in the gate to wire style, set the pace in the go zapper

going two turns last time out and held on to win.

Now that was against a much easier field.

He was one to 10 that day. Obviously not going to be 1 to

10 here, but he had a lot of early speed and he should make

the lead from where he is. I mean by Aza does not have much

early speed, neither does Navajo Warrior.

So he'll be able to get over to the rail and the lead.

I think Baeza is going to be over bet a ton.

I don't think that 5:00 to 2:00 morning line is going to hold up

at all. I think the Pan Street is going

to be over bet as well. And then these wide open races

where I think you kind of have to demand value, I think 8 to

one on Grande would be fantastic.

Barry, I know you agree. Yeah, Grande looks excellent.

I think this horse, it's really tough to kind of evaluate horses

like Grande because we don't see them that often.

But you can see in the past performances that this horse

runs every single time they're on the track, 8 to 1 seems like

a stretch before the scratch disruptor.

Now it's going to be even smaller than that, but Grande

should be the goods here, I think.

Grande keeps Johnny V aboard 3 for three.

Is Johnny V aboard that horse? What do you make of Skippy in

this field here, John? I love that Saffy has these,

this pair of older horses that, you know, between him and White

Abario that he's willing to travel around the country and

and go to different races and show up in these spots.

You know, 3 for three this year, grade three, grade one, grade 3,

two different tracks. Hasn't won here at Churchill

before, but that was frankly a long time ago.

We're talking about a 7 year old horse.

I mean, outside of his chances here, how cool is it that we

still, you know, we still do have these horses in this

division? I mean, him and Water Barrio I

think are great examples of what the sport should be about

because you know, we see about all these flash in the pan 2

year olds and three-year olds who have one flashy effort and

then kind of burnout. I mean, Skippy Longstocking, as

he said, like he's seven years old and really he's never been

better. You know, he's won 4 greatest

stakes races in the past 12 months, done so three times in a

row, always turns in a good effort.

He's earned almost $6 million and he's done it the hard way.

So even if you're not betting on him, as you said, I think you

have to chew before. An interesting one there in

Skippy. Do you give him a shot here?

Yes, I do, especially if Grande can't get away on the pace

because the instant speed drawn was outside.

E Avenue should be forwardly placed, as should new.

What's new? Skippy has been on the lead in

other races but it hasn't gone so well, so I imagine Tyler is

going to try to keep him just off the pace.

Should get a nice trip in the two path and if Grande can't get

loose I think Skippy is going to be first in line to pick up the

pieces. You know, it's about interesting

about Skippy here, Barry, is that I think if I'm in the

connections, I'm trying to run the Essex again, not the Harlan

Handy. Because if you're trying to run

that mile on the 16th with your closing from off the pace on a

fast track of Churchill Downs, I don't think you want to be that

far back. I think you want to be a much

closer today. It it push a horse like Grande

because if you're Skippy and you're 7 and you're in this kind

of form, I I think you got to feel like you can go do it.

Yeah, yeah, you have to you have to go into it with all the

confidence in the world. My my issue is a Skippy's seven

years old there. There's going to be that point

where he's not going to be able to give the effort that he that

he was before, but doesn't seem to be slowing down.

And then also, I don't think a mile on the 16th is his best

distance. I I think he likes to go longer

that that. Could be absolutely the the

holding thing here is that it's 8 1/2 and not 9 or 10.

Something like. That and you know, it's a minor

issue, but it it, it could be something that could get him

beat. No, it's an interesting thing

for sure. There's the late pick four

starts with the modesty. Gazzora's going to make an entry

in here. John and I love, I love, love,

love that this horse is going to be stateside in Chad Brown's

barn this year. Who beats her?

You know, I think she's a little bit of a vulnerable favorite

only because she's really not a mile and an eighth horse.

I mean, obviously, you know, from the Brewers Cup, Philly and

Mayor Tof last year at a mile and the 8th.

She won the French Oaks last year at a mile and and 516th.

This really has the makings of more of a crap to me that you

know, all they want to do is is get a race under her belt and

then move on to bigger and better targets later in the

year. Now she might be so much better

than these that it just doesn't matter and she'll beat them

anyway. I think they're and the best

choice to try and and beat her is number 2.

Proctor St. another horse with Tyler Gafflio in the saddle.

It's one for Brendan Walsh, one on the track.

Last year took the Cardinal Stakes at today's distance of a

mile and and an eighth from off the pace.

We're in a big race in the Hillsboro at Tampa Bay Downs.

Last time lost in in a in a three-way blanket finish.

She's been in pretty steadily, good form, has good tactical

speed and a great closing kick. I think if you want to try to

beat this big favorite Proctor, Street is the one to do it with.

We'll talk the other late stakes races on Oaks day with Dan Isel

in the 11:00 hour. We'll talk Oaks and Derby with

John up next. Quick break here.

Horse racing happy hour rolling along were presented today by

our friend Doug and the team at derbybox.com.

Your last minute option for sure for

secure.safeticketsallofthegoodthingsover@derbybox.com. Today, tomorrow, whatever you

are looking for, look up Doug. Doug and his team, they'll take

care of you with whatever kind of tickets you are looking for.

One more segment with John. We do it next.

All right, welcome back, Ian. Horse racing happy hour.

Hey, Oaks day. Let's go.

It's not raining. Eat it.

Barry 437-9680 is our UPS jobs. Thanks for hanging out with us

as well. People asking with the post

post. Our pics will be posted on the

happy hour as Barry starts a fire in the in the near

vicinity. Please don't do that.

That would be bad for all of us here. 437-9680 our UPS jobs tax

slide with looking at the the Kentucky Derby tomorrow.

John is there. I, I think the storyline of this

year's Derby is, is pretty straightforward.

We have horses like Renegade and, and I think the best

example for sure is Commandment. Commandment undefeated, three

runs, three wins at 3, all of them on the Florida Derby route,

wins at grade two, wins at grade one.

Brakes is maiden at 2, has all the foundational things, a

couple of 100, you know, speed figures, that kind of thing. 10

years ago, John, I don't think we're even talking about other

horses. I think Commandment would just

obviously be the favorite between jockey and connection

and all the things. But man, this year I can't find

a person who's like, if you say I like Emerging Market, they say

that's stupid because we've had Justify, we've had Mage, we've

had these horses kind of breakthrough since 2018 and kind

of upset the apple cart. Do you consider that to be one

of the big storylines here that a horse like Commandment is just

getting completely overlooked and horses like Potente and

Emerging Market are getting tons of buzz?

You know, if that's The thing is that like if, if everybody was

the exact same price, I would pick Commandment because as you

said, he is the most likely winner of this race.

And going into the week, I had picked the Puma on top And, and

I still like him a lot because I because he, you know, he ran a

big race at Tampa Bay Downs. He just missed in the Florida

Derby, lost to Commandment by a nose.

And I thought to myself, well, you know, if Commandment is

going to be 9 to 2, four to one and the Puma is going to be

12:50, play the Puma. But at least as of now, they're

very similar odds. I think they're both like 7 or 8

to 1 and Renegade is is a slight choice of five to one.

They also think it's justified too.

But like there has been a few long shots win over the past

years. I mean, I mean, obviously Rich

Strike back in 2022, May 2023 and nobody and Mystic Dan and

nobody wants to play Shock and Derby because nobody wants to be

a Captain Obvious. So, So I do think it's a race

where people try to get a little bit too cute and it's picked

long shots just for the sake of picking long shots, but

handicapping it straightforwardly.

I think Commandment and the Puma are the ones to beat there.

You go John Piazza at their off on the socials joining us here

on the show. Louis, I have to share this

anecdote. My grandmother and her buddies

rode the train from Milwaukee to Louisville in 1929 to watch

Clyde Van Dusen win the roses. My family did the babysitting

for my dad and his siblings in her 80s.

She told me it was one of the best time she ever had in her

life. I love those kinds of stories.

You never have to apologize for sending them. 437-9680 is our

UPS job checks line. That's what it's all about.

That's exactly right. Let's go through this Oaks

field, John, as we get to race 13 on the card today and an

interesting, you know, what's the right word for this swath of

horses? What interesting, just a sort of

different kinds of runners and different things, you know, new.

I think part of what's happening this year, John, for me is with

the new morning line maker, how I see the past performances at

Churchill is just different and you get so used to Mike doing

them for as many years as he did.

And now, of course, Nick taking over for that just kind of a

different thing. So I think I'm still adjusting

in my mind for how, you know, Nick's going to be making the

line rather than than the Battaglia did.

But where did you end up landing?

In the Oaks? Or like a top three or maybe a

long shot you like? Well, as a fan, I'm going to

have to chew the number 7 dazzling day because she is a

Maryland bred maiden at Lower Park and she's trained by

Brittany Russell who is the queen pin, if you will, of

Maryland trainer. So I have to cheer for her, but

I don't think she's going to win.

My top pick is number 10 from Queen for Brad Cox and Javier

Castellano. You know, she's already won

around 2 tones twice. She's improved who figure with

each start. I like the way she won the

Gulfstream Park Oaks sat to stop the pace, did a very

professional move while wide and 1 going away.

And I know that you guys were talking about this earlier.

There was a lot of speed in this race and it's part of why I'm

not so thrilled about dazzling game.

I mean, you got counting stars should be forwardly placed Astro

explorer from the inside. There's so there's a lot of

voices who I think could have Persies bar and South Alabama

arena anymore. But I but I do think there's a

lot of voices who profile as speed and save types.

I think from queen is going to take advantage of them.

And that goes possibly even more so for #9 always a runner who is

very lightly raised, only made two starts, much like a

stablemate emerging market. But both of them were around 2

turns. I saw who win the gazelle in

person. And I really like the way she

won that race too. Came from off of very moderate

fractions, kicked away to win, improved dramatically, at least

on the business speed. So good scale.

Improved 18 points up to a 95. So I think those two are going

to get great trips and the boys to get the job done at good

prices. Barry, what I point at you, you

talk. The Gazelle, by the way, has put

out some good horses in recent years.

Always a runner. This year's winner, Ballerina

Dioro and Ice Horse last year. Where's my ring?

Nostalgic search results, etcetera, etcetera.

The last couple of years have gone on to do nice things as

well. My I think where's my ring?

Probably the best of those Gazelle winners as far as the

race itself did. The J.

Geils band the freeze frame right there.

That was not good you. Froze.

That was a hard stare, too. I appreciate the stare, at

least. At least you're, like, looking

at me. At least you know I'm here.

That part's at least good. John Piazza with us.

Yeah. The longer I'm I I once in a

while. You look at a race for too long.

I've looked at the Oaks for way too long, I'll put it that way.

Always a runner all of a sudden looks like the best horse.

Paralysis by over analysis. Exactly right.

You know, it's funny you talk about that.

I typically do not take a long time handicapping, but I do take

a lot of time to construct bets. I I think that's where the

money's made. Yeah, there you go.

What do you make of some others in this field John wanted to ask

you about? Say a zany doesn't get it done

on the short stretch there at Keeneland, but winner in the

Suncoast obviously was just fine on the long stretch in the

Demoiselle. I mean, I have Zany in my top

four and I think she's certainly worthy of the spec.

As you said, she's already won multiple times around 2 turns.

I would like to have seen a little bit more of a closing

punch in the Ashland. I mean, posties Bar had not

raced yet this year and I and I thought then he got a better

trip than she did. Still still under finishing a

clear cut second, three lengths clear third but second never

less. I don't know if if I played a

win, but I do think that if you're playing an exact or a

trifecta, she'd be a good hoisted key underneath.

What would you make if Percy's Bar comes out of the British Cup

Juvenile Phillies, where she finished a decent third?

No one was catching Super Corridor that day.

You talk about track biases. Nothing like that at Churchill

Downs this weekend. She goes ahead and wins the

Ashland. Do you think she can stretch out

here? Yes, I do.

I was very skeptical of her going into the Ashland because,

you know, it was her first start since the British Cup Juvenile

Phillies. I didn't know if she'd be short

off the bench. As it turns out, she was not.

She got she made a very big move, one going away didn't run

quite as high on her business scale as she did last year.

But since it was her first start in so long, absolutely nothing

wrong with excuse me with that and I and I think she's poised

to take a step forward in her second start off the layoff.

Actually, Johnny, I'm actually wondering what you think about

counting stars because I believe for it, not that Martha

Washington, this horse might be vying for favoritism because I I

think she's fast enough in improving 8 to one.

It seems to be like a good price.

But what do you think about that one?

I like it quite a bit too. And I, and I know I'm saying

that about everybody, but to your point, this is a very wide

open race. As you said, she was no good in

the mouth of Washington, but I do think it was encouraging

that, well, Cassie didn't take off the Oaks trail, put it back

in the honeybee. She had a very nice second that

day, closed very well from off the pace behind Explorer, then

won the fantasy just so easily. Got the trip that day and won as

a four to five choice. So I do think that race,

especially the way she won it, alleviate a little bit of the

doubt at the mouth of Washington might leave and she should sit

off the pace on the inside and if if nothing else, get first

crack once explorer and dazzling dam give away.

Yeah, I thought that was interesting because, you know,

the day she lost to Explorer, I thought Explorer got the best

trip and and I think she actually counting stars might

actually get a better trip than Explorer this time.

Texter wants to know. Hey John, you saw Pashmina in

the gazelle. How good is she?

I have not been thinking about her much of her being quite

honest. I mean she she did run a career

best figure that day of a 93 but but that was owned almost under

ideal circumstances. She got away with pretty easy

fractions, have 1/2 mile and 48 and 253 quarters 1 to 13 flat

and still got caught by always a runner.

Now she's drawn towards the outside and she's going to be

forced into setting much faster fractions than that.

I mean, if something happens, the point of the other speeds,

then I suppose as you could make the front and keep on going.

But her winning to me is really not a handicappable outcome.

It would take something that that we can't foresee for her to

get the job done. She got in via that second place

for this in the Gazelle. Ramon Vasquez, who was aboard

that day, will write her here at Churchill today as well.

In the Oaks, I think the only other really top horses here,

meaning comes out of the Santa Anita Oaks.

Barry likes her quite a bit. John, hard to tell out of that

California route, but this is one Hey wins on debut, is fourth

in the Breeders Cup and then wins her next two races.

If it were Baffert and not Michael McCarthy, would this be

a three to one horse and not a 5 to 1 horse?

Yeah. I think if you only look at

Meaning and Explorer's lines and it's like scratched out the name

of their trainer, their odds would be pretty much flip flops.

I really don't like Explorer at all.

Meaning, as you said, has been in very short form, did win the

Santa Anita Oaks in her first start in about two months.

I do think there's a risk that she gets a little bit too caught

up in the pace because she was very close to the pace in her

last few stars. Yes, it was very fast fractions

and she hung around, but it it was not against quite the

caliber of of opponent that she'll see here.

So I'm hoping Juan Hernandez isn't too eager that he doesn't

try to engage with the leaders, keeps her in mid pack and that

will give her her best shot And she will have to make I think a

very well timed move because I think her middle pace figures

are fantastic. The late pace figures, not so

much. I can easily see who tracking

the front at the top of the stretch looking like a winner

and then being swallowed up. Of the pair of Bafferts Explorer

at six to one, bottle of Rouge at 15 to 1, which one would you

rather bet straight up? Well, I, I think, I mean, it's,

it's, it's been a busy week, but I think bottle of Rouge is.

Scratched. Oh, she is scratched.

I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm sorry.

Explorer at six to one. Do you like the number?

I'm sorry. You're right, buddy.

I'm sorry. That's all good, and no, I

don't. When I heard.

The news? Not at all.

I mean, she has not raced in two months.

When it was announced that she was scratched out of the

fantasy, I was like, yeah, you know, I guess she's not going in

the Oaks. I guess so go.

In the E Court. Or something.

Yeah. And that was like, no, she's

still going in the Oaks. And I'm like, oh, that's not a

good idea because she's coming off by far along as layoff in

the field. Who races this year really have

not been that great. She hasn't taken the step

forward that I would have expected of her as a three-year

old. And as I've talked about before,

there's a lot of speed in here and she is going to get pressed.

Unless as I notice something crazy happens and she gets a

loose lead and she will be over back because of that Bob Baffert

Slavian fat factor. She's 8 to 1.

I think right now that would be even too high on her.

I'll let her beat me. All right, well, there you go.

Well, here's John Piazza. He's out of Yonkers.

You guys racing today? Yes, we are.

And then we're racing Saturday afternoon.

Tomorrow we're racing on afternoons about the Triple

Crown season, post time at 3:30. It's Friday.

It's two of our big things races.

The Borgata pace for top older male paces, the Ursula McIntyre

pace for top older female paces. So it's going to be a great

night and a great spring and summer.

Love it. You know what's going to happen

because I'll be out there with Barry and you know, we'll be

out. Go watching, you know, the Pat

Dame aisle or something and Barry's going to be betting

Yonkers like that's what I'll be, you know, like I'll be

looking, I'll look down at his phone and that's just.

Going to be possible that is always a.

Possibility. You know, there's so much time

in between the old Forester and the.

Plenty of time, yes. It's an hour and a half.

It's like, what better way to kill the time than to play some

Yonkers? Oh man, good stuff.

Well, at their off on the socials, his name's Johnny P.

We appreciate him jumping on the program.

Hope to see you really, really soon, my friend.

And thanks for jumping on the show.

My pleasure Louis, have a great day.

Horse racing happy hour rolls along thanks to Johnny P John

Piazza hanging out with us. Part of the frankly, I consider

him sort of part of the happy hour.

Sure. Whatever we are, whatever that

group is, I don't is it a cesspool Like what's Oh.

Wow, I thought I was thinking more like Voltron like.

Oh. Assemble.

Oh yeah? What?

Almost asked which color Voltron you would be that's.

Not a thing I should do. It's probably not something to

do. So why you say Black Falcon like

that? Little Voltron joke on a Friday.

All the good stuff for sure. 437-9680 Dan Issel.

Hey Tanner, should we talk today at Issel?

Let's talk to him next. Hi, welcome in 11:00 hour of a

four hour program right now. Let's go hour number two.

Barry, how are you doing man? Welcome.

A little Oaks day. It's not raining. 437-9680 It's

our UPS Jobs Tech slide. Thanks for hanging out with us

here on ESPN 680 and one O 5 seven and of course the horse

racing happy hour takeover. We do every Oaks and Derby.

So glad that you decided to wake up with us.

Like I said, 502-437-9680 is our UPS Jobs Tech line.

Seeing some some area codes from all over the place.

Barry having some fun this morning.

Appreciate everybody hanging out with us on the program.

We'll have Danissel in just a few moments here.

Get his thoughts on other races today.

But anything Johnny P stayed out to you.

No, I I think it's it's funny, me and him actually see the

races kind of similarly. So I feel good about it when

Johnny PS On my side I got. Extra confidence gives you a

second opportunity there as we see if the phones will actually

get through to Denver and talk to Dan Issel.

They did work at least for John. So that gives me a little bit of

hope that way again, Hey, by the way, our coverage today

presented by Derby Box, derbybox.com, last minute

tickets for today or tomorrow if you want those All in all

inclusive kind of dining options, whatever, they've got

that for you as well. Maybe you're looking at the

schedule and going, hey, I can still get out there for Oaks and

go to a lot of the races today because of the latest start time

for the Kentucky Oaks. Maybe you want to go see that

prime time one in person. Go check them out at

derbybox.com and of course they've got you covered for

tomorrow there as well. You know, before we get into a

sort of our personal part of the card, Barry and you know where

we're going to talk about these different races.

Do you have a like favorite bet on the card today, a most likely

winner that maybe is a either a good price or you just think

it's going to take you take the race?

I I got a horse who I like a lot in just aloof in the 12th race.

OK, so the race right before the Kentucky Oaks, what do you like

about just aloof? I think this horse basically got

a prep last time at Keeneland in the Appalachian.

Didn't get the best of trips. It was a really strange race.

They kind of made a run on the inside and everybody swooped him

up on the outside. Joel Rosario on Storms Wake won

at a good price that day. But the way that horse was

ridden, it just didn't look to me like that was the goal.

They they weren't trying to peek there.

The horse ran like a horse that needed a race.

And I think they're going to be all cylinders today, 8:00 to

1:00 on the morning line. Hopefully we can.

Hopefully we can get that and it's home Runville.

We really close their time. As you mentioned in the on the

session, Jamie to Randy before that.

Speaking of Sizzler, let's bring him in.

He's Dan Issel joins us here at the 11:00 hour on an Oaks Day

edition of the program. Big ass.

Sorry man. I'm great.

I'm I'm ready to go. Got my fascinator on and I'm

ready for the oaks. Well, you say hi to Barry

Spears. You do that.

You guys are both old basketball salts at this point.

How about that? Exactly.

I I was trying to think, have you done the pod with the you've

done the pod with Thistle before, right?

Yeah. So you guys know each other from

that, of course, 1 Hall of Famer to another Dan.

Of course you don't need to know a Hall of Famer.

You are a Hall of Famer. But Barry played college ball

with Ben Wallace. How about that?

Oh, really? Yes, in union.

The only guy in the Hall of Fame that has no business being there

there. It is.

There it is. None of us can explain it and

even even Barry knows that. It's a pretty wild thing.

I wanted to ask you, Dan, as you watched the races yesterday, you

know, we had a previous guest on our friend John from New York

and just I, I thought it was about as fair as it could be

yesterday. I would say, you know, dirt

track playing very quickly. So don't be too far back if you

want to win one of those races. But I think the turf course

right now, John, excuse me, Dan is, is playing as about as

evenly as I can remember. And frankly, I was really

encouraged earlier this week when I saw like 30 claimers

running on the turf course. They must think it's actually

doing really well at this point. Well, yeah, I'm, I'm happy to

see that because you remember when they first put this new

turf course in, they had to back off of it on on numerous

occasions. And I'm glad they finally got

the formula right. And I think you're right.

It's it's very fair, especially when the rail is closer to the

if you if the rail's out, I think Louis, the the speed

horses have a little advantage. But when the, when the rail is

is all the way down or close to being down, then I think you're

right. It's it's a very fair turf

course. 4379680 is the UPS jobs tax line.

Texture. Of course Issel makes fun of

Wallace right away. Yeah, no, that's how it goes.

Texture. Louis, love the show.

On the insider pics it says horse horses exiting key races

today. What does that mean and how

would I? What's a better use for that?

Barry? What is a horse exiting key

races? So basically key races are races

that where a lot of horses come out of that do well after that

race. So you'll see in the Daily

Racing Form there's italics next to those horses who come out of

a particular race and win again. It's always a good sign that

there's some good horses in that race if they can come out of any

single race and start beating others.

Texter says I'm listening to Dan in my car, which it means, of

course, my car is parked behind the Moby Dick.

All right, 437968 and keep it coming on the UPS.

Some jokes just never die, Dan. How about that?

No, no. It's never going away.

The modesty is race 10, Dan. Let's look at the late pick 4

here with you. And I wanted to pick your brain

about this one. Not because I think Gazora isn't

an obvious and worthy favorite in here, but rather because

she's cutting back pretty significantly.

A distance. Hasn't run it a mile and an

eighth since last year in April. Has run six times since then.

What do you what do you make of her cutting back in distance?

Does that matter to you, or do you think Bobby Pratt's going to

have her in a good spot? No, I think with those

connections now remember Lou when she when she won the

Breeders Cup race, she was trained by by the guy.

By the. Guy from Yeah yeah.

And now Chad's had her for the whole winter and, and I don't

know the Chad's as good a turf trainer as there is in the world

and he's got Slavy and this is a single on my card.

OK, single for you in the modesty.

Who are you looking at? 2nd in that one.

You know, I, I guess whiskey decision.

Chad's other horse, you know, Proctor St. certainly has a, has

a chance. I mean, there's, I don't know,

there's three or four or five horses in here that I don't

think have any chance. So it looks pretty chalky to me.

Whiskey decision comes out of the Hillsboro, the highest grade

at stake. They're at Tampa, the grade 2.

They're losing twice to Destino de Oro before that in the grade

2 Pegasus Philly and Mayor Turf Invitational.

Barry, you went kind of a different direction in this one.

You landed on the five. You're going to go ahead and try

to beat Gazora with Catherine Marisa.

Speaking of Chad Brown. Yeah, I, I thought there's a

possibility Gazora just got a perfect trip in in the Breeders

Cup and I, I don't think they might be able to replicate that,

especially off that long layoff. But again, Chad Brown is, is the

best in the business, so he's going to be tough to beat in in

this sort of situation. But I thought Catherine Marissa

really had some good races to go to.

The last one was August of last year.

So there there's a a real big gap, but I, I, I still think

Chad Brown's holding all the cards with all three of his

horses in this race. I just really want to take the

longest price out of them all because I think she's actually

rounding in the form. Get her here at Churchill Downs

where she does have a win. Previously that was in an

allowance but did run well in the TEP and immediately after

that first time trying a stakes company did win at Kentucky

Downs over a mile and five sixteenths last year as well.

You know, Dan, looking at a race like this and trying to, you

know, fill out the modesty is is this a race where instead of

trying to find an exact or something like that, you're just

using this as a single in a pick three, pick five kind of spot.

Exactly, exactly. I mean, I mean, if, and you

know, I, I like the favorite, I, I, I don't even think he'll get

4 to 5 on her. And so, you know, the, the

exactas and the trifectas aren't going to, aren't going to pay

anything anyway. And I, I almost have quit

playing trifecta since everybody's gone to the $0.50

trifecta. And, and you would think, we've

talked about this before, Luke, you would think that a $0.50

trifecta would pay half of what a dollar tribe pays.

But that's, that's not the case. It's it's much less than that

because at $0.50 you can you can use more horses in your tribe.

Yeah, that's exactly right. Gazora, by the way, a multiple

graded stakes winner in France, both at Longchawn and Chantilly,

of course, won the Breeders Cup Philly Mare Turf at Del Mar last

year. Over the mile and 3/8 will go

the nine furlongs instead of 11 today.

They're in the modesty. You talk with the Hall of Famer

Dan Thistle here on our Oaks Preview on the Horse Racing

Happy Hour alongside Barry Spears.

I Louie Robot, appreciate, appreciate Tanner Bruno Meso

producing the effort for us to date.

Texter, please ask Dan, does his son still his son still have

that $86,000 pick 6 score he hit at Saratoga or is that money

gone? I got to think Scott spent that

money. It's gone.

Come on. No it wasn't.

It was 380,000. Do you know that?

Do you know Iselson swept the pick six at Saratoga?

Did not know that about that. He he had, he had the only, he

had the only ticket. He was the the only winner. 380

Now I'm I'm sure that missus Issel.

His missus Issel. Is is pretty frugal, so I I

imagine that. I can't imagine where she got

that from. Dan.

I'm stunned to learn that about your, about your someone who

married into your family. I'm stunned by that.

So I'm sure he's got that salted away someplace.

Texture, man, I think a French horse would quit pretty early on

in the race. That's a good text, Dan.

It's wow. It's.

A pretty good text let's move to the dirt 4 race 11 the La Troy

and 1,000,000 bucks here on the line.

Dan Phillies and mares 4 and up. One of the races we always look

forward to this weekend and you know, some interesting favorites

in here because if you get a three to 1.

John Shredd, the NAR, whose highest level win over two turns

isn't an optional claimer, but did win the Shaluki back here in

November for Brian Lynch. Luis Saez gets them out there.

You know there's a chasing in here, winner of the Sandy

Bottom, but they ran that in two divisions with five horses in

it. Snow White is scratched out of

this race and I thought was an interesting 1 coming out of the

top flight. What are you going to do in this

race? I'm going to I'm going to go a

little deeper in this one, although I think fully

subscribed is a really nice Philly Tis tis the laws has

really come on as as a sire lately.

And again, we're talking about Chad Brown and and and Flavian

Pratt. You know, the the shredmanar is

is last time lost. I mean, this Philly has to be on

the lead and she's got the perfect jock to be on the lead

in in Louis Saez. The last time she got bumped at

the start and never made the top.

So you kind of have to throw that one out and and I'm going

to use I'm going to use Brad's two horses too.

I think he he hasn't had breast bless the broken very long.

He said some very nice things about her and this and his other

Philly is from a Juddmont family and that family just gets better

and better with AIDS. So I'm going to spread a little

bit in here. I'm going to use 157 and 9 I.

Know you like the seven in here, Barry, at least a little bit

with Chase. And what do you like about?

Yeah, this source seemed to have proved from 3:00 to 4:00 that

that race at the Fairgrounds was much improved.

They ran pretty well against rising inflation.

Union Mist, Who's Who's a pretty decent horse, came out of that

and ran in Colonial in the sandy bottom, which I I'm starting to

downgrade a lot of those races at that Colonial meet.

They just weren't that fast, but this one actually was.

And beating her laugh and passage.

EI think that sets this horse up very well.

For today, I like seeing her drop off Lasix last time and

still put in a good effort. Flora Giroux picks them out back

up for this one. Christian Torres just happened

to be a colonial that day for her win in the Sandy Bottom.

Other favorites in here though, Dan, if you're looking at Brian

Lynch's Shred the NAR, I mean, do you think she can get the

lead in this one? Yeah, yeah.

I mean, she has to. I mean, they they have to know.

By the way, do you have Dutch Brothers coffee?

We do know, yes. Yeah, that's that's who owns

Shred Dinar, Flying Dutchman, Flying Dutchman Stables is is

the guy who owns the the Dutch brothers.

I I know that because my granddaughter works at a Dutch.

But yeah, I mean, I you know, if you have a horse that has to be

on the lead, I mean, you have to you have to get her there And,

and I think Louis will. There you go fully subscribe.

Dance pick in this race. The 9 horse is also my pick in

this race out of the Chad Brown barn and we talk about all the

time Barry Chad off the layoff boy just doesn't see it.

We used to wait off the plane and now it's Chad off the layoff

you. Know so reliable off of layoffs.

It's it's it's unreal. I mean, it's almost like he,

he's, that's the best thing he does.

Edgewood up next for us, Dan, the mile on the 16th on the turf

course here. This is the three-year old

Philly race on the on the turf tomorrow.

We'll get the American turf on the boys side of things,

$600,000 in this one, a Grade 2 and a bunch of different ways to

go in this race, Dan. I think frankly you could talk

me into any number, probably about six or seven different

horses in this race, which end up landing in the Edgewood

today. I love a horse in here, Louis.

I absolutely love a horse. I got a little inside

information imagination the lady it was bred by by my dear friend

Wayne Lister. They sold her soldiers a

yearling I think for about 300,000 and the romanticism.

The dam just had a move Philly and I think day before yesterday

they bred her back to to not this time.

But according to Wayne, Brendan has been very high on this

Philly all along. I think she might have been a

little short in that race at Keene.

I think I, I love her. I'm I'm not only am I using her

in my my horizontal bets, but I'm I'm betting her right on the

nose too. I know it's a horse you like as

well. Yeah, yeah, definitely.

I, I actually thought just the loop though, is the stand out

there, both coming out of that same Appalachian stakes, that

Storm's Wake one, which was such a strange race.

So yeah, I, I, I, I definitely like imagination to the lady as

well. Yeah, Storm's Wake was the last

to 1st in that one for sure. Joel Rosario, one of those

Rosario rides and we get about one a day, Dan, where Joel just

shows up and steals your money. And that was the one that

happened on Appalachia Day at 22 to one.

Luckily wasn't. She like 20?

What is she like 20 to 1? Yeah, she was.

Luckily we had, we had thrown her in our ticket.

Barry and I were playing like a pick three together or

something. And thank God we threw in our

ticket together because literally Barry looked to me,

Dan, right before, right before we put the ticket together and

he goes, you know, Joelle's gonna ruin our day.

So let's just throw over the Appalachian.

That was one of those. It's absolutely fantastic.

Well, we'll take a quick break here.

When we come back, we'll get Dan's thoughts on the two big

races on the weekend. Essentially set up his Oaks and

Derby double. We'll do that on the other end

again today we're presented by Derby Box at derbybox.com.

Our friend Doug over there. If you're looking for last

minute tickets today or tomorrow, they've got you

covered over there. And of course, hey, if you need

a spot to go check out the videos and all the great things

happening from this past week, the Kentucky HPA KYHBP a.com,

they got all the great stuff going on over at their site as

well. And of course for all of our

picks and updates should be updating soon on the website.

By the way, horse racing happyhour.com, everything free

up there as well. More big as we do it next.

Hi, welcome back in horse racing happy Hour Oaks day edition

hanging out with Dan Essel. I'm lawyer beau, he's Barry

Spears, of course, Tanner Bruna Messel keeping us on the air in

of the studio. Appreciate him very much.

437968, our UPS jobs Tech slide 2023.

Thurby the Goat took a moment to chat it up for a bit.

Yeah, a nice picture with this. There you go.

Yes. You wore a you looked like you

were going to Easter services in that shirt.

It does. I think you know exactly what I

mean. And Barry just saw you look

absolutely just like that before. 379680 If you've got

pictures with Thistle, yeah, send those in.

Yeah. Stunning.

Stunning at deed the Derby tomorrow.

Dan wanted to pick your braid about that before we get your

pick for the Oaks. But I think an interesting Derby

Dan and sort of a a change in how we have to analyze 3 year

old races is pretty evident to me in this field where a horse

like commandment Dan, I think 1015 years ago, wins as a 2 year

old, great trainer, goes down to Florida, sweeps the Florida

series, wins the Grade 1 Florida Derby, couple of 100 speed

figures undefeated as a three-year old.

He would check every single box in most years going into the

Derby as the favorite. I think we wouldn't even really

be talking about it in past years.

And then you got horses like Patente for Bafford who who've

never run it in allowance. You've got an emerging market

who's only ever run twice. I mean, I think this is such an

interesting Derby as far as just the changing landscape of when

horses run, what we expect for them to have as a basis heading

into these kinds of races. Is that on?

Is that factory into your handicapping tomorrow?

Yeah, for for sure. I mean, you look at I think the

last horse, and I'm doing this from memory, which isn't a good

thing at my age, but I think the last horse to win the Kentucky

Derby that that won the Wood was Fuciichi.

Pegasus in. 2. Thousand yeah, and so and so,

you know, you can't feel real good betting A betting a horse

out of the out of the wood. And it's it's interesting how

people where people pick and choose like, you know, Renegade

is in Florida, but yet they ship him to Oak Lawn to to run in the

Arkansas Derby. I I agree with you with

Commandment. I, I think if you're

handicapping the preps, I think Florida, the Florida Derby was

far and away the, the toughest race.

And so it's, you know, it's interesting the same way with

with Chad's horse Chad's right there in Florida and and he

ships them to Louisiana to run in the Louisiana Derby.

So yeah, no, you're, you're absolutely right.

I think that not only do you have to handicap the horses, you

have to handicap the races they came out of.

It's fascinating, Dan. One of the trends of this year's

Derby is that so many of these horses ran well in a race at.

Tampa. Of all things, we had Jason Beam

on the other day who calls the races there and we talked about

6 different horses who had meaningful races at Tampa this

year that are running in the Kentucky Derby.

Just kind of adds to that Florida ecosystem of racing and,

you know, emerging rocket breaks is made into Tampa.

Like you said, they ship them straight over to fairgrounds.

He gets it done there. You know, obviously Renegade

comes out of Tampa. Oh, help me out here, Barry the

Puma. The Puma.

Further ADO. Yeah, Further Ado, that's

exactly right. That's what I and Further Ado is

the one I forget because he robbed, he robbed at Keeneland

last time and I think of his win in the Jockey Club up here at

Keeneland. Yeah, interesting watching Tampa

be so important this year. Yeah.

And and, you know, I it it, it's always interesting you think

people used to ship to Tampa to get easier competition, but in

the stake races, I don't think that works anymore.

Yeah. 437-9680 UPS jobs tax line, who do you like sort of

top three in the derbiest commandment in that group?

Yes, top three. My pick, my pick is going to be

Chief Wallaby because he he, he's, you know, they, they, they

threw him and was at the fountain of youth.

They couldn't get A11A to go. And so they threw him in there.

And I think he performed a lot better.

But what I really like is now Bill has, has put the blinkers

on him and his work, his last work at Churchill, I thought

was, was, was phenomenal with, with the blinkers on.

So he, he would, you know, I, I guess the three horses had ran

in the Florida Derby would but would be my, my top three picks.

You know, I think on this, on this show, Louis, a few years

ago, I picked the mage to win mage to win the Kentucky Derby.

And I, it wouldn't surprise me if those same people with the

Puma win this one. I would in addition to those

three, I, I think I would, I would also throw in further ado.

I know a lot of people think he's a Keeneland horse, but he

has won a race at Churchill. So those those would be my top

4. I don't think Barry's going to

disagree with you much. You were there for the Florida

Derby. Really, really great race.

And I know you like the Puma here in this spot, so you can't

hate Chief Wallaby, obviously, right?

Yeah, I, I like Chief Wallaby as well as the Puma.

But yeah, I'm, I'm in total agreement as well with the

Florida and all those preps. They were really good.

I mean, honestly, you I can see a situation where it was like

last year where the exacta in the Florida Derby was the exacta

in the Kentucky Derby. Yeah, right.

That could easily happen. I think that's on the table for

sure. Of course, the Florida Derby the

most predictive of high level success in the Kentucky Derby.

So it would not be surprising if a Commandment, A Puma or the

Chief Wallaby comes out of that race and runs really well in the

Kentucky Derby. What do you make of Renegade

drawing the one? Are you just drawing the line

through him? And I don't think you can

because it's not like the old gate, you know, with the old

gate, with the auxiliary gate, the one hole broke right into

the rail. So I mean, but still, you know,

it's farther out and and he's looking down the rail, not into

the rail. But still you got 19 horses and

and this horse doesn't want to, he wants to come from out of it.

And so you can't take him out of his running style.

And so that means there's about 15 horses that are going to come

down right on top of them. So, you know, he could work out

a trip. He's got got the best jock in

the country on him. But still, that's, that's a,

that's a tough, tough spot to be in.

So Dan's choice will be #12 Chief Wallaby.

He'll break from the 11 with the defection of Right to party from

the Kentucky Derby field. Right to party out this morning.

Dan Robusta draws and changes up the speed complexion of the

Derby. Will have a speed horse breaking

from the outside now alongside, frankly another horse that's

probably going to want to go with him in in.

Excuse me, 6 speed who will break from the 17th?

Should be interesting to see those two amongst the outside

four. I met Pupat Seymour this week a

couple of times. He's a pretty cool guy.

Go ahead. If you've got no chance to win

the Derby, go for it. You know, maybe it'll give you a

thrill if you're on top when you hit the finish line the first

time. We always joke that in the in

the Preakness, whoever wins the Tessio is just going to try to

be in the lead at some point so that they can hear their name

called on the Preakness day. Yeah, I totally understand it.

I'm not hating on it at all. But getting back to today with

Dan Issel. He's joins us from Denver, of

course, here on the Horse Racing Happy Hour.

We're on ESPN 681057. Got you until 2:00 today.

I'm sitting alongside Barry Spears, the Kentucky Oaks Grade

1 today. Million and a half bucks in this

one Dan and you know the the mile in an A thing and always

trying to figure out coming out of your favorite place in

Keeneland, that short stretch that they have there for the

Ash. Another race is run at the mile

in a 16th distance. Obviously you get a winner in

Percy's bar who I'm not going to knock for a win in the race.

She got the lead and she she went ahead and did it.

That was softer fractions didn't really give zany you something

to run into of those two horses coming out of that race.

Do you have a lien? Yeah, but it's it's with my

heart, not my head. You know, I know a lot of the

connections with Percy's Bar. Ben Colebrook has has trained

the horse for us before and Machado's ridden for us before

and the Listers have owned 10% of this Philly.

So it would be with my head. But look, this is this is one of

the most wide open Oaks I have. I, I remember every time I check

the odds, there's a different favorite right now, always a

runner. Chad Brown is, is the four to

one favorite. But you know, I, you, you

mentioned a mile and an eighth. There's a horse in here that I

think will absolutely love a mile and an eighth and that's

Brad's horse. That's she's going to be my key

in the, in the trifecta. She's you know, she's by quality

Rd. out of a tappet mayor, so the mile and an eighth will be

no problem. She's did nothing but improve.

She had a great workout last workout at Churchill.

So I'm going to, I'm going to key her in the in the trifectus.

That is Prom Queen breaks from the tent Javier Castellano gets

the ride there. The West have never won the

Kentucky Oaks. Interesting.

That, that actually stands out to me, Dan.

I, I did not know that until this morning when I looked it

up. I was like, oh, how many times

have the West won the Oaks? They've never won the Oaks.

That's is that I I just a reminder how hard it is to win

these races, Dan. Yeah, because I think Brad's won

3 three of them, hadn't he? Something like that, yes.

And so, yeah, it's something like that, yes, many, many of

those things. Do you have a longer shot today

in the oaks that you like? What's the deal with this lovely

Gray? She was 30 to 1 drew in, wasn't

in the main body, drew in 30 to one on the morning line and is

now 6 to 1. So she has an owner named Dave

Portnoy. Do you know the the Barstool

Sports Dam? Yeah.

Yeah, yeah. So it's Dave's horse.

So he's just out there and all of his friends are betting on

her. That's great for all of us,

right? To to answer your question, the

the long shot that I like that'll be on my ticket is the

four horse counting stars. Yeah, that's I have her on top,

Danny. Really, if you go by the buyer

figures, she had the she had the highest last out buyers at 92

and prom queen was 90. So yeah, I I'd give her, I'd

give her a shot. Dan, if you draw a line, if she

doesn't run in the Martha Washington, we're looking at

first in a in a state, you know, the restricted stakes, 6th 1st

in a black type, second in a grade 3 and then runaway winner

of grade 2. I mean, you would be talking

about her very differently. Frankly, outside of that Martha

Washington, her running line to this point actually looks like

Oh gosh, oh, the the grizzly. What was her name?

Why am I Anna? Yes, Torpedo Anna got her

writing style actually, because she comes out of Oakland.

Looks like Torpedo Anna at this point.

Yeah, no, that that last race was pretty impressive.

Yeah, she was great for sure. You know, as you, as you, you

know, go through these, you know, different runners and

different things. You mentioned, you know, a

friend having a piece of a horse and that sort of thing.

Is there another sort of storyline you're rooting for?

Is it that, you know, someone gets there first?

Or maybe you know, I, I don't know, I is there a storyline

you're actually rooting for the Oaks or is are you just happy

it's this wide open for betting purposes?

And now I, you know, I, I, I always, I always root for for

Brad. Brad is Brads a dear friend.

I, I, if I text Brad, I hear back from Brad in 30 in 30

seconds. I don't, I don't hear back from

my kids that quickly. And so and so I'm, I'm always,

I'm always rooting for Brad. He is a remarkably responsive

guy. You were totally right about

that. Dan.

Also with us here on the Horse Racing Happy Hour on ESPN

680-1057 today leading up to the Kentucky Oaks.

We've got you for about another 2 1/2 hours here on the program.

Will take you up till 2:00 Eastern Time today.

You know, Dan, you know, getting back to the Derby just for a

couple seconds sentence here, you know, with trying to figure

out all of these different storylines and different things.

You mentioned Brad Coxard, rooting for him.

And something I've talked about with him in the past is, you

know, yeah, you've got mandaloon, but boy, do you want

to be there when your horse crosses the line 1st.

And the answer is obviously, of course he does.

He wants to have that winner's circle moment.

He wants to have all those things.

Do you think he if I gave you his two horses or the field

tomorrow, would you take his too?

Yes. Okay, all right, so come in.

Further ADO for you SO. I would I would remember Lou

when when we were doing the show together, I think we had Brad on

and it was like, it was like almost a year after they they,

they put Mandaloon up and we. Got me a check yet?

He said I'm sure he'd like to get his 10% a little quicker

this time. Yeah, a $5,000,000 race would be

OK for sure. Man oh man.

Further Ado, Son of Gun Runner will break from the 18.

John Velasquez will ride for the first time.

Of course. From the 6th Commandment will

break under Luis Saez who rides him for the first time, but

should be no problem. Do you read it to jockey

selections on Derby day? The Flavian deciding to go with

Emerging Market and I read Riding Renegade.

You know, you would think that, you know, if Flavian is is going

to stay with people who give him the best horses to ride.

That's what that's what all jocks do in a normal

circumstance. But this is the Kentucky Derby,

man. I mean, you, you want to ride

the best horse you can possibly ride.

So you know, and some of these commitments come come way before

I'm sure, I'm sure that you know, I, I read had probably

already committed before he rode further ado in the Bluegrass.

So you never can tell about about jocks and and how certain

assignments come about. But I will say this, talking

about further ado, Johnny V at his age might be riding as good

as he's ever rid. He he is doing a tremendous job.

And and the other thing you you ask about connections.

I I I don't think the horse has a chance, which will probably

put him in the winner's circle. But.

MM But MM Smith and I, Mike Smith rode a horse for us at at

Fairmont Park. It was a $25,000 take race in

nine in the 1986 or 87. And he was just, he was still

wet behind the ears. And he's another guy that will

respond very quickly to a text when that when we text back and

forth. So you know that that's another

connection. And I I'd love to see Mike Earl

win another Derby. Good stuff there.

Of course. The winner of the Grade 1 San

Anita Derby is so happy. Mike Smith rides from Mark

Glatt. Cool story with Mark that too.

Hopefully he's enjoying the Derby here as well.

Well, Dan, man, we really appreciate the time Texter did

want to know, do you have a favorite play before the stakes

get going today? Maybe someone on the undercard

that you really like? Yeah, let me, I, I shut my

computer down. There was a horse hold on, hold

on a second. There was a horse in the in the

sixth race that that I really like.

And that's that's Cherie Devoe's horse, Paige Turner.

Yeah, OK. The four horse in race 6, Cherie

Devoe, yes. Yeah, yeah.

I think that's a very logical 1 here for sure.

Yes, I, yes. Yep, Yep, Yep.

Yep, coming back off the layoff. But it was second place in the

Fern Creek, of course. Broker Maiden at 7 furlongs at

Churchill before this will run at 7 1/2 today.

Makes a lot of sense there, Dan. A little too logical.

Almost like parking behind Moby Dick.

Just a little too logical. You guys, good luck this

weekend. Oh, thank you so much, Dan for

carving, giving out some time and I'll say hi to Sherry for

us. All right.

I'll do it. There you go, Dan Issel, the

great one, we appreciate him jumping on every year as part of

our coverage. 437-9680, our UPS jobs text line.

Make sure you get in with us that way.

On the other end, we'll start looking at some of the live

races, Barry, as we get closer to that.

But time for you and me to do our early stakes previews, the

things we do on our usual episodes of the Horse Racing

Hour, Happy Hour, we do that next.

All right, thanks for John Piasik and of course, the great

one, Dan Issel for joining us on the program.

So far today, rolling along horse racing happy hour, ESPN

680 and 105.7. Barry Spears, Liu Rubo, of

course, Tanner Bruno Meso keeping us on the air.

Appreciate him coming in on Oaks, a Derby day for us,

437-9680 502-437-9680 is our UPS jobs text line.

Would love to hear from you no matter where you're listening

from around the country. Texter Isel dub.

Yeah, that's right. That's always a dub of Thistle.

You you. How about that comes out and

immediately just poops all over Matt Wallace being in the Hall

of Fame. It's good stuff.

Or do you think he was that was a compliment.

You're you're a baller. You're a ball.

Nowhere, I should say, excuse me, Barry Spears was was he

being meanest or was he being like, man, I don't know how that

guy got into the Hall of. Fame, I think he was being kind.

That was, that was a, that was, that was a compliment.

More like an undrafted guy that really had no business being as

great as he was. Something like that, right?

I think is though, one of the things that ruined basketball

for me was hanging out with Dan Isle and him telling me that

just effort is what matters on defense.

And it really did. I mean, Barry, it ruined it

ruined many things for me because I'd watch guys not try.

Oh, man, after he explained it to me, I was like Trey Young.

Oh, that's an effort thing, right?

Yeah, yeah, something like that. We were talking about the how

much? It's hilarious, by the way,

because I was like, you know, addition by subtraction.

The the the Hawks are a lot better than.

They lose. This is.

Math by 70. Oh man.

Well, taters, 70 piece taters alongside today.

I need him to come to the mic for a second.

Do you? I mean, I stopped.

We got the, you got the Duncan a little doughnut hole.

So I got that's what I went with today.

Instead of guessing on like 3 doughnuts or something and

bringing those in, I just went variety pack of the Munchkins.

Is that what they're called? Yeah.

That's the way to go, right? OK, good.

OK. I just want to make.

Sure, for a thing like this. Yeah, like 4 hours, a half a

half dozen an hour. You kind of roll through, right?

You're doing a thing, OK, I think.

No. I got to take care of Taylor.

I like Tanner on these weekends, man.

It's my guy for Derby, dudes, my dude.

I'm messing with that. You've got a method around here,

Barry, you understand Unless. Unless you're gonna do just the

chocolate and the honeydew ones. Yeah, no, it's all right for

you. Like chocolate and just the

glaze? You mean or?

Yeah, they throw those little. But like the blueberry ones are

awesome. The blueberry ones and then the

Jelly doughnut ones. Not a Jelly guy.

No, I'm OK. I'm down with.

All four of those, Right? I was gonna say sugar gets

around you and it disappears because it.

Yeah, exactly the vacuum that is Barry Spears.

It's exactly right. 437-9680 texture.

All. It sounds like all of Issel's

tips depend on him texting him back quickly.

Sounds like no one should bet on him.

Oh Dang. Issel Here's the thing though,

the people that text back Issel back are the best in the game.

So it's not like he's getting text back from me, right, like

this, which he does, but like, it's not why he's picking these

organs. Yeah, it's not like a bunch of

herbs, China text him. Oh, a bunch of bums like me.

That's exactly right. Well, let's get into.

Late to the show and I miss Dan. I can't believe it.

Did he give an opinion on Stokes?

No, we didn't get into Stokes. God, that's funny. 437-9680 UPS

jobs tax line, the Unbridled Sydney as we get into stakes

races here will be race 7, middle pick 5 here, Barry.

And I think if I were playing a pick 5 today, this is the one I

would look at because you get the Ali Sheba in the middle, you

get that modesty toward the end and it ends with the La Troy

yen. That's a really, you can have a

lot of different opinions in this sequence and make a lot of

different choices. And so I think as far as the

pick fives today, this one might actually stand out to me as the

one where you can get a little funky, makes money.

Yeah, as long as you can get away or get around a few

favorites, that's exactly the sequence, you should be fine.

Even if like, let's say like she's so spicy wins this first

race of this sequence, you can still make some money there.

There's some opportunities there in the other races.

We'll be on till 2:00 here on 680 and 105.7.

Thanks for hanging out with us. But as I just said, Race 7 today

is the Unbridled Sydney. It's a grade two event, half,

$1,000,000 in the Kitty for a freaking turf Sprint of all

things, 5 1/2 furlongs there. We see the return of she's so

spicy. And Barry, I kind of just wanted

to have fun at this moment. You and I get to go to a lot of

great races and of course, you know, Oaks today, all that kind

of stuff. But the we're at the Breeders

Cup. It's Breeders' Cup Saturday.

We're getting ready for the fifth race out there at Del Mar.

We got that great spot on the paddock, right on the edge so we

can see all the horses walking around.

And you, my friend, made a face that I've never seen before and

I have not seen since. And you said I'm getting more

money. I'm betting on She's so spicy at

5:00 to 1:00. And at the time she was a

three-year old Philly going against older horses for the

very first time. And you looked at that and said

that's my horse. What did you see that day?

It's it's kind of like one of those things where you know it

when you see it, but you can't explain it.

It is the Supreme Court with pornography.

I can't describe it to you, but I know it when I see it right.

Yeah, that's how about that I was thinking.

You've never heard that anecdote?

Never. It's a great one for sports talk

radio. It's fantastic.

Yeah, Taylor's nodding. Yeah, you got to use the Supreme

Court once, like, every day. Throw that in, it goes.

Perfect mental note taken. Yeah, but she it was like she

was like jumping out of her skin.

I mean, that's the best way I could describe it.

She looked great, was bouncy the whole time, just just exuded

like she was just going to run a hell of a race.

And she sure did, man. Yeah, it goes ahead and wins

that 1 by 2 1/2. Irad keeps them out here for

Moshe. Angelo just went and went and

just kept going. You know, the year before they

tried to do that with Cog Run, and he just ran.

I mean, remember, he almost stopped in that race.

Yeah. It was like the guy read pushed

a button. Together almost scared me a

little actually. I was worried the horse was

hurt. Apparently he's fine, but like,

you know, he's off to stud now. But she was really, really great

at three. I know you're going to try to

beat her today. Is that because you don't trust

the form or just for value or a little?

Both. A little both.

I mean, we haven't seen her in a while.

We haven't seen her since then, which is a little concerning.

I I thought she might get a race in before this one, but she

didn't. So that that's a little

concerning. She's been training OK, I guess.

I mean all her works are going to look good with like most of

these stakes horses. But I think Queen Maxima she

she's tough foe, hardly ever loses, brings her her best

efforts on the road to won this race last year.

This race sets up for Queen Maxima to me.

OK, Queen Maxima will break from the five one that we've seen out

at Santa Anita many, many times, frankly down the hill last time

and the time before that, but was in the SK Maddie at 5

furlongs A turf at Del Mar. Excuse me, on the turf before

that has never, you know, won this race.

By the way, last year under Juan Hernandez was kind of a

question, hey, can these California horses come out here

and do that? And that was out of Dayberry.

That was a very, very wet day at Churchill now.

Sloppy day. So that turf course, not even

that firm thing you talked about earlier the show the you

described it as the pool table sort of effect of drier days,

none of that last year frankly not going to get any of that

this year. So should get another good run

here. Yeah, the, I think the turf

course is probably in the best shape.

At least it looks like it on television, that's for sure.

I haven't been out there obviously, but I I think it's

going to be fair for everybody and this is going to be a great

race to watch. Race 7 again, Barry's going to

go 56 and 9:00. I'm going to go 65 and 1 here.

Barry, I agree with you on Queen Maxim.

I think she's just a step behind.

She's so spicy in the spot. Frankly, if they both run their

races, but we both like Maytown in this spot.

Brian Lynch trains for Rajaru, gets the mount in this one, or

at least I like Maytown. Excuse me, breaking from the

one. We haven't seen this one since

the pee patch, but 23% win percentage off of half year

layoffs for Brian Lynch should be ready to go.

This one was an allowance company here at Churchill and

one and broke her maiden over this turf course as well.

A bit of a a horse for course Barry.

That's why I'm throwing this one on my track.

Yeah, it's unfortunate though. I think she has just scratched.

So we're we're not going to see Maitown.

I like Maitown. Just scratch today.

And, and started rounding into form, getting drew underneath

the radar with these other kind of horses, bigger named horses.

I, I know a lot of people were, were picking this horse.

So I I don't know if we would have got that 20 to one, but

we'll have to wait for another day.

All right, you like someone else in this one.

In your third spot, you landed on the 9 horse Berry in race 7

for the third spot. Shoot it true.

Our favorite jockey, Joel Rosard.

Yeah, oh jeez, man, if you can catch him nowadays, you're doing

something. But this horse is very

consistent. Ran some fast races once they

got to the turf. They they fit very well here and

should get a decent trip. On to the next one.

We're talking Oaks a day handicapping Barry Spears, Lewer

Bell Horse Racing Happy Hour, hanging out with you on ESPN

681-0578 Bells grade two event here. 7 furlongs on the dirt,

$700,000 on the line for this one, Barry.

And I think a race in the last couple of years that's really

started to gain in prestige and one that more and more trainers

are starting to shoot for. Yeah.

What are you laughing about now? What are you laughing about?

What? Do you see it on Twitter?

What are you doing? No.

Not, not not really laughing at anything.

I, I, I just think this race is is comes up pretty tough and and

it can go a lot of different directions.

It's it's really inscrutable because you got only a horse

that really doesn't have the chance.

Is probably the one front running.

OK, who'd you land on? But in in the 8 bells, the seven

love your neighbor. I I think is really set up for a

good run here, especially on the cutback.

I think that that's what appeals to me the most.

This horse was really pressing fractions and and and really

pressing the pace going a mile on the 16th cut on the cutback.

They should be coming slightly off the pace gets Luis Saez.

I hope we get that classic Luis Saez ride where he where he kind

of glues himself to the to the hip of the front runner and then

takes over the top of the stretch and runs away with it.

That's what I'm looking. For There you go 437-9680 our

UPS jobs tax line 7 horse on top in race 8 for Barry Spears

cutting back in distance here, last time this horse ran at six

furlongs was in the slop at Fairgrounds, but should be able

to get some of that that we saw at at Colonial.

Before that I went I'm kind of chalky in this one.

I went 98 and here I like on time girl quite a bit.

You settle down, but I'm getting a horse getting back to a

distance that I think she really wants to be at Barry.

I think a mile is probably just a little bit too much for her,

but gets to be fresh off the bench here at 28% angle for Brad

Cox as well. I think this one makes a lot of

sense. But I wonder about Goodall next

to her and and this is 1 and you heard it from John earlier in

the show. If you just looked at speed

figures you'd go, Oh, Goodall might be faster than on time

girl. I just I'm not buying that part

for sure. But I do think, Barry, there's a

world in which this horse goes ahead and just takes the lead.

It does run away with this thing, and I think there's a

real shot of that. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.

We've seen sort of these kind of performances before where it

looks like there's a little bit of speed and then you get one

horse who's the speed of the speed and just runs them off

their feet. Goodall's definitely a candidate

for that French. Friction.

You agree with our guy Johnny P about her?

I actually do as well. Yeah, this horse should get the

trip. I like that, Ashlyn.

They they ran even though they faded I think they were going

too far than they really really want.

I like the fact that they did actually get to the lead.

Percy's bar is pretty quick and they they kind of controlled

until they just ran out of gas. The cutback makes total sense.

Definitely have to run faster though.

Wanted to answer our question on the text line.

We're going to jump back to the Oaks real quick.

Barry 437-9680 text comes down. Mr. Sniper, they actually

addressed you as Mr. Sniper, which is I don't like that at

all. Which means you should do it

more often. Which Philly has the best chance

of getting out front and stealing the Oaks due to a

possibility of a slow pace? I think counting stars might be.

I think it's not even a question, it's her.

Yeah, yeah, I, I, there's a possibility Explorer could do

that if, you know, we get that heads up ride from Pratt.

If no one goes as well. Right.

But they're going to have a tough time on it because there's

going to be a bunch of horses coming from the outside,

including counting stars. I I think counting stars though

would be the one. I think dazzling dame's going to

go because they're going to have to.

And if she does get the lead and counting stars can sit right

behind and make the move on the backstretch that she has the

last couple times out. Barry, I that's my topic in the

Oaks today. We'll get there.

But I just I think I think it does set up for her.

But yeah, I think you might be right there as far as her

getting the lead and just keeping it.

I'll be fascinated what prom Queen ends up doing here if she

breaks really well, because I think there's a chance she

actually inherits the lead. I think she's fast enough.

I I think she's fast enough, but I don't think they'll they'll

want it. I'm not saying they want it,

but. I I.

Don't. Know, I don't think there's

going to be a problem with the pace.

It's not going to be slow, but they're going to be winging it

and prom Queens going to be out there.

I I hope they're not on the lead.

If if prom Queens on the lead and they're going slow, then

there's a lot more issues that probably went on before before

we get to that point. That's a hell of a way to put

it. In the seventh race again, Barry

is leaning on the five and the 6th.

I'm leaning on the 6th and the five.

In race 8, I'll go 98. Barry will go 7, two.

In that race. We both have the two in our

handicapping in a French friction.

I think both of us saw that one independently and it makes a lot

of sense in this spot. 437-9680 UPS job sex line Taylor.

Let's go ahead. We'll take our top of the hour

break here, get you into the noon hour.

Two more hours to go here on our Oaks preview on the horse racing

happy hour on ESPN 681057. All right, let's get back after

it. second-half of the show here on at Oaks Friday on the horse

racing happy hour, hanging out with Barry Spears.

My name's Lyra Bell. Thanks, Tana.

Bruno Veso producing the effort today.

Dan Issel and Johnny P John Piazik already popped by the

program. Appreciate both of them.

Have everything up at the podcast after the show.

Make sure you are tuned in for all of that. 437-9680 Our UPS

jobs text line races get going in 1/2 hour.

Barry and I will start going ahead and previewing those as

well. Have fun, Barry.

Yeah. That was a good stuff for sure.

437 again 9680 is our UPS Jobs text line 502-437-9680.

No matter where you are hanging out with us, we really do

appreciate you making us part of your Oaks Day.

Son is out. Out Barry.

That's good, but it's still cold homes.

You take your Florida blood, you get out of here.

You understand me? That's.

A gate of blood? Yes, I am guilty of that for

sure. Yes, you are.

We'll continue our early stakes previews here, Barry, with race

9, which is the Alley Sheba. And as we talk about older, you

know, two turn dirt races on the on the male side of things.

Barry, where does the Alley Sheba rank for you?

Is it, you know, Oak Lawn Handicap I think got a bump this

year because of who showed up. The purse obviously is always

going to have something to do with that. 3/4 of $1,000,000.

You're going to get a lot of people to show up here at

Churchill for this one. Early season, your races.

Where does this one rank for you?

It's pretty high for. Me pretty high.

I mean the only the only I guess downside to it is there's only

eight horses, but other than that, everything else lines up.

This is this is a really good prep.

You got Baeza in there, you got corporate power Skippy who won

the Pegasus. So this is a really good race.

Man, we've also got a couple in here, Barry, that we met as 3

year olds in 2025 and frankly they looked great in different

ways. The Florida Derby winner in

Tapan St. gets hurt right before the Kentucky Derby.

Last year we didn't see him until December when he won in a

optional claiming company they tried.

The Pegasus very clearly wasn't ready that day to be even part

of the race at all. I don't think he ever got closer

than 5 lengths just for whatever reason wasn't didn't fire at all

that day. Obviously going to try to get

him up here to Churchill Downs for the first time.

He's only ever run at Gulf St. Park, has to Pan Street, but

Grande's in here and he is a horse that from three to four

did take a step forward. When's the Ghost Zapper last

out? Getting back to those two turns

at Gulf St. Park, You were there that day

and you like Grande on top in this one.

What do you why do you think he can get out and win this add a

mile on the 16th as well he's. Just super talented, almost like

mind frame type talent. With Grande, it's it's just a

shame. We haven't seen him a whole lot,

but every time he gets on the track, he does what he needs to

do. The only time he lost was to

Rodriguez and we were there that day and nobody was beating

Rodriguez loose leader and this horse kind of made-up some

ground that day. So.

You you can tell that kind of talent when horses gain on loose

leaders like that, it it it usually shows that they have

some fight in them and they they can they're a lot better than

what that race kind of entails. And I think Grande was that 8 to

1 seems to be a stretch though. I agree 4 to 1 is probably what

we're going to end up. Getting probably less than that,

I could see a situation where this horse goes off lower than

by Aza. They're doing the, you know, the

match up bets and the and that sort of thing.

Let's go ahead and call the match up here.

You can get by Aza and Grande or you can get Skippy and corporate

power. Where would you lean?

Corporate power, actually. OK.

So you would take the second-half of that matchup.

I think you would actually get longer odds on that side too.

I think Baeza and Grande might take more money there.

But as we look at Baeza, that was look, a couple of horses,

you know, we had sovereignty last year, Barry.

And I think what gets lost in the sovereignty conversation is

how much journalism really carried the Triple Crown last

year by going to the Preakness, going to the Belmont after that,

running in the Haskell, winning that thing as well.

I know that's post Triple Crown, but really giving, you know,

really giving an idea, someone asking if we'll give out picks

for race one. Absolutely we will at 12:20 when

we come back, Tanner, remind me, I'll set it up where we can do

the race calls and all that stuff too.

We'll make sure we got all that set up.

But the with Biaza, I think this is a very logical spot for him

to come back. Is it too short for him though?

Possibly. It's hard to tell because his

long races were coming against the best of the best and often

when you're facing the top notch competition, your running lines

seem to adjust to their talent, not yours.

So Baeza, basically, once he got away from sovereignty and

journalism, he was the best horse in the race and ran like

it. He did that at parks last year

in the PA Derby. I think we got a similar

situation here. It's just a matter of him being

ready off the layoff and he's with Bill Mott now, so I don't

think that'll be an issue. Were you?

Surprised, he moved to Bill Mott's barn after the the the

the passing of John Scharp's. Yeah, actually I thought, you

know, that's stable typically has has a lot of runners out

there out West. I I figured they might get him

with a Michael McCarthy or somebody like that.

I think they very clearly thought that they wanted to see

this horse in this kind of race. I think this is the kind of

spot. So I also, I add that to my

handicapping Barry trying to figure out what the connections

want and if it this is more of a connections driven thing than a

Bill Mott driven thing. I don't think it is.

I think this makes sense as a return spot for.

Him I I try not to do that because I know if you know the

mind of Spears, that tells you everything you need to know.

You don't want to get in that head.

No, no, no, no, no. None of that Skip Skippy is in

here though. And and by the way, people

texting, hey, we don't have this post up.

I see my tech guy on the sheet right now, which means horse

racing happy hour. We'll have our full picks in

about 3 minutes something like that.

But he went, yeah, we. Gave our winners yesterday by

the way, for whoever that was. That is, had a couple.

Hang on. I know that number.

I had a pretty good day yesterday.

Yeah, 2878, that's our guy. I had to go way down.

That's how many texts were. Get a lot of text today.

You know why? Because Oaks Day, you know.

Everybody's excited. Let's go for this day, but

Skippy comes in man 3 for three or two for two for this year.

Excuse me, a win in later December, the Harlan Handy

before that kind of the lead in to the Pegasus where he was

really impressive. You were there for that one as

well. Comes back wins in the Essex.

I love a horse that can travel. We're talking about a horse

that's one now at Santa Anita and the Gold Cup is 1 at Oak

Lawn. Obviously down at Gulfstream

Park hasn't had success at Churchill, but it's been a long

time. Do you care about that?

Slightly OK, you know. At least in a data.

If you wanted to beat this horse, it could be a data point

against him, yes. Yeah, OK.

Yeah, I think Skippy, Skippy, he kind of punched me in the mouth

in in the Pegasus World Cup because I didn't expect that

kind of performance. He was at course, he was

incredible. But the Essex is something like

he's been doing. That's definitely, you know, I

saw him win the Challenger three times and it was it.

They were just cakewalks almost like that Essex.

That's why I'm kind of skeptical of him in this spot.

I mean, he'd have to put up another Pegasus type performance

to win this race. I don't know how much of that he

has left in him. That's really where the gamble

is for me with Skippy. I mean, his record speaks for

itself. If you just look at that, you

would think he he'd be the goods in almost every race he runs,

and he's almost is. But this is a little bit stiffer

competition, even a little bit stiffer than what was in the

Pegasus, other than his own stablemate in white, a barrio.

So we'll see what happens, But I'm I'm a little down on him

because I think he's going to be a shorter type price too.

The Matt Win winner is in here in East Avenue.

We saw him in a sloppy Kentucky Derby last year up the track.

I thought his run in the Matt Win was, if not his best run,

one of the very best in his career.

Mile on a 16th seemed to be. Seems to be his distance.

Is winter the British fraternity?

Sort of at that shorter stretch there at Keeneland as well.

Comes out of the Oak Lawn mile. First time running this year.

Are we overlooking E avenue? We really haven't talked about

him. Well, I think E Avenue is a

really, really nice horse and, and I don't mean anything by

this, but I wish they would run this horse around 1 turn.

I think that's where he he's probably best.

But it's hard because sometimes those sort of horses that have

route speed aren't as effective going shorter, you know, just

stretching out and getting into a comfortable rhythm takes time

and some horses respond to that. I think E Avenue might be that

sort of tweener situation certainly can win, but I, I I

think there's enough speed in new what's new right there next

to him to to keep that one occupied.

So when? We started talking about this

pick 5 starting in race 7. E Avenue is the kind of horse

that I'm talking about that if he pops in the middle of that

that sequence, because there are three very logical favorites in

that race. That's the kind of horse when

you when you separate a horse, potential potential singles,

another part of the sequence. He makes a lot of sense here.

And you know, Brendan Walsh, Christian Torres had them out

last time. I think if it's the Oak Lawn

Mile and a 16th, I think he wins.

Yeah, right. So I think.

Certainly can. You know there's still question

marks in here too with Pan St. What is that horse going to do

after that bad effort in the Pegasus?

Is he going to be fresh? Is he going to be on the lead?

Who knows, but this should be a pretty exciting race for the

fact that it's eight horses. I think it becomes kind of a

riders race too. Interesting.

OK, disruptor out of there. So No 9 hole for this one.

We will cap out at the 8 corporate power for Steve Asmos

and Jose Ortiz aboard for that one.

I think Barry, if I were playing that pick five, I might just

hold my nose and punch the old button for that one.

Just have fun with it. Yeah.

I mean, me personally, I wouldn't, but I would eliminate

the favorites, OK, top two choices and take everybody.

Else there you go. The Modesty is race 10 today on

the Oaks Car Talk with Barry Spears.

I'm Louis Roubo, this is the horse racing happy hour.

We will cap race one at 12:20 and get you the race call at

12:30 here on 681057. The Grade 3 Modesty is a mile

and an eighth. Barry, we talked about this one

with Dan earlier in the day and Gazora makes her year debut here

for Chad Brown. Interesting.

So something that other handicappers talk about and we

had Brian Nadeau on earlier this week, he's a guy who talks about

this a lot. Is a horse really cranked?

Is this the race that they're trying to win?

Is Gazora cranked for this one today?

And frankly, if she's like 80% cranked, is she still the best

horse in this field? I I would doubt that she's fully

cranked for this race just because of how they're

introducing this horse back into racing, especially into North

American racing. I would think they might need a

race here. She could be better than these

on the RIP, But Chad Brown has two other horses in here that

are pretty good as well. So if Gazora doesn't fit the

bill, which I don't think she might, I think this might be a

little bit too short. Yeah, right.

That is the concern. The distance is the concern with

Gazora. Yeah, she, she just could be

better. But I, I, I would lean towards

others here. I like Chad Brown's other horse,

Catherine Marissa coming into this race the right way as sort

of maximum bourbon vibes where this horse came out and and and

won a good race, much improved last time.

The the only problem is we haven't seen this horse for a

long time. And then the flip side to that

is Chad Brown does excellent off these type of layoffs.

The post is now live at the Horse Racing Happy Hour

homepage, Horse Racing happyhour.com.

All of our picks are up for the day.

Our top three selections, very top four in the Oaks.

I've got 1234 different pick threes I'm going to try today as

part of the card. Excited to get betting on this

day as well. Barry's a different kind of

player. Get some win, place bets, a

double bet and then a pick three as well.

He and I different kinds of cappers and that's why I think

our sheets are as fun as any of those out there.

I'm going to lean on Gazor in this spot, man.

You are leaning in a different direction though.

Yeah, Catherine, Marissa, that's who I'm going to put on top.

I thought Whiskey Decision is also a nice horse.

They're all a lot of these horses are coming out of that

Hillsborough at Tampa, which was a nice event.

As you can see, they all ended up here.

Destino de Oro isn't whiskey decision finished second to that

one in the last. I thought they the the stretch

run was really interesting in that race and Destino kind of

nipped whiskey decision. So I think that one's coming in

race in right form. It's just interesting that Irad

lands here instead of anywhere else.

But Pratt ends up on Gazur, so it makes somewhat it.

Had to slide at some point, right?

It's sort of, you know. Imagine subbing in.

I read right. It's not a bad thing to have to

do, but yes, Flavio Pratt was aboard 4 the Hillsboro run by

one by Destino de Oro, who probably has had the best turf

year in Florida so far. I mean, she really has to this

point. Yeah, Brad Cox definitely

remembers me from that win. Jumping up and down, yes, right.

Yeah, you gab me up. I almost knocked him over.

He saw you at Caitlin was like, what?

The hell are you doing here, lunatic?

What was this guy doing? Is he, is he here?

Dabbing me up again started. We got enough for that in

Florida. And you and I were the nice

section of Keeland. We had some listeners kind of

drag us over there. Get over here.

How is he sitting at these tables?

This is a Mark. This is a Mark Blanket Baker

table. What are we doing?

It was a good stuff for sure. But no, but Gazora, back off of

the Breeders Cup. I wanted to ask you, you know,

sort of a bigger picture question about runners like her.

You know, an ethical diamond. Obviously you and I have a lot

of fun with because I was, you know, I picked that one out

ahead of the Breeders Cup Turf last year.

If you are an owner in, you know, a Peter Brandt type, this

just makes sense. If the horse likes the three

turn flat thing that we do in the US, why would you not leave

Gazora here? Exactly.

OK, All right. I mean, I mean that that horse

ran lights out at Del Mar. I mean it.

It shouldn't have been as much a.

Surprise as it was, I I mean, she definitely fit in that race.

Like I told you before they they entered her in the ARC.

Yep. That says a lot.

Even though she didn't win, she didn't really run worth a damn

in that race. But that should have said

enough, and all her other efforts are really, really good.

We should have saw that coming. She got off at 9:00 to 1:00 that

day. Pretty grovel.

Last race. There you go, 437-9680, our UPS

jobs tax line. I really do wish after seeing

his first couple of runs that they had left Ethical Diamond

with, like a guy like Chad Brown.

I really do. Yeah, 'cause I, yeah, just let

him go the mile and a half hers over here, run those races at

Saratoga, eventually at Belmont, whatever, and just let him pick

those off, drop him in at Keeneland in the, in the turf

again and just try it. And I, I ghazor, I'm so glad

when I saw that news, I, I got to interview Francis Alri

Garfar, who is the the previous trainer on Blood Horse Monday.

And he, he talked about wanting to get more horses over here

because he likes the turf style of running that we do.

But do you know what he talked about was running in Kentucky

with a Kentucky bred at Kentucky Downs.

So it's interesting to hear guys now talking about how they're

going to fill in the races in this circuit and Cazora

obviously filling in the big race here today at Churchill

Downs. Will we see more of those

runners? Are guys like are far going to

start looking for those opportunities?

You know, what a changing time in our sport, Barry, where

everyone wants to concentrate on the negative.

There's a positive things going on too.

And turf racing in the US is getting better.

It just is. Well, $150,000 maiden race,

we'll do that to you, I think. That's really the remarkable

thing is when you look at some of the past running lines for

horses and where they've run before.

I mean, they're those Kentucky Downs.

Horses are showing up everywhere, right?

Because you know who goes there. Really good horses because you

want to win a lot of money. It is a tough meet and this

year, this last year especially, produced so many of those

runners. Obviously, she's so spicy.

AG Bullock came out of those kinds of races 1/2 right after

that in a Breeders' Cup race. It's pretty incredible.

Texter, Barry, don't get too excited.

You and Louis. Here it is, our bums.

Both had two winners yesterday. And your top picks for those

keeping score at home. Berry's not bad too well, but he

could play infield for the Cincinnati Reds tax turn.

Nor the Phillies in all the analytics of horse racing, but

no traders and jockeys. If you bet, would you put more

emphasis on the trainer or the jockey?

Berry, probably trainer this trainer, yeah.

All the best jockeys are here, right?

So that's part of that of the big weekend is you're very

unlikely to get a bum for a jockey.

Well, this is how I feel about jockeys.

They're very short. Besides that, I I think it's one

of those situations, it's almost like sports teams where you have

a roster full of guys. The guys that aren't playing

don't necessarily doesn't necessarily mean they're not

capable, right? You just don't see them as much.

So I tend to downgrade or lessen jockey angst because of the fact

I think they all are capable. Sure, when given the right

horse. Yep.

So I would think in that situation or most situations,

trainer intent and what they're doing means a little bit more

than what the jockeys are. And the jockey trainer

combination thing is real. I mean, it's absolutely real

that that status. They work out the horses for

them, they know them exactly right.

So. So it does make a difference.

Yep. Especially if those guys are on

the same circuit at the same time, right?

Really working those horses, etcetera.

If you see a Jose Ortiz on a horse that was just at the

fairgrounds, you know he was on that horse every single day,

knows it really well, that kind of thing.

For sure. 437-9680, All the pics are live now.

Horse racing, happyhour.com. Tech guy got on it just in time.

So if you're betting the day everything's up there for free,

just click on tip sheets at the top of the homepage.

Should be an easy spot to find race one in 10 minutes.

We'll talk about it next. All right, welcome back in Oaks

Day here on ESPN 680-1057. We're the duo known as the Horse

Racing Happy Hour. Barry Spears, me, Louis Rabo,

thanks for getting out with us as part of your Oaks Day

preparations. Barry, we're only 8 hours away

from the Oaks. Only, only only 8 hours away

from the Oaks. Happy Oaks.

Louie and Barry coming down on the text line.

Great show. Thanks for the info.

Texture in A7 horse race, drawing the one hole, is it less

detrimental to Barry than drawing the one in a 13 horse

race? I would say absolutely it can

be, but the one could be a tough spot no matter what.

Yeah. That's how I feel, especially

when you're a favorite. Being on the rail is really,

really. So phone Megan.

Moise, that's what I'm hearing. Yeah.

It's heard your. No, no.

What am I hearing in the background then?

Tanner? Am I hearing noise here?

Is that the. It's the track feed.

You're trying to get ready for the race.

No, you're being a good guy. No, you're doing something.

Up with the wire. OK.

No, that's all right. That's what we want.

That means we got the track feed.

Let's roll. That's fantastic.

All right, well, good. We'll be able to roll that

through radio, which is great. We don't always know if that's

going to work. Yeah.

So at least we know that's happening.

Yes. For the texter, 1 hole, not

ideal. You can get pinned down.

So many things can go wrong even though you're on the inside.

If you can get out and get out in front of everybody else,

that's good, but not always that kind of situation.

That's exactly right as we will make sure that we try to get

that first race for you here, Barry, up at the horse racing

happy Hour homepage. Horse racing happyhour.com.

Oaks picks are up, Barry. I landed 17 and five.

You're going to go 3-7 and five here early on.

Do you have the odds in front of you by chance?

Just to keep people updated that way.

I'm going to use the favorite here, Barry.

I love a second timer coming off out of Keeneland for Brendan

Walsh throwing the blinkers on under Tyler.

I think this one a pretty obvious play and in fact, in my

plays early pick three, I'm singly the one here, but you're

going to go to the three with Sister Jean.

Yeah, I, I, I thought, you know, I'm, I'm always trying to give

long shots a chance or horses other than the favorite a

chance. And I thought Sister Jean could

be forgiven in those first two races in the stretch out.

You know, this horse has gotten better, got better from start

one to start 2. I think that progression is is

there? There should be a lot of speed

in here. Usually in these younger maiden

races the paces get hot up front when they're going a route of

ground and I think that benefits sister Jean who probably won't

be on the lead somewhere mid pack and be able to get a good

run at it from from there. There you go.

Sister Jean on top for Barry in race one up here in just a

couple of minutes, a mile and a 16th.

One of my favorite routes in all of horse racing is that mile and

a 16th route that Churchill gives you just enough time to

try to get in position for race one or for the first turn.

Excuse me, they're at Churchill. Should be a fun race here.

Maiden's going the two turns, mile on the 16th, Phillies and

mares that are three and up. And Barry, even in Kentucky, you

know, as we talk about the changing landscape of horse

racing, we're seeing these 3 and up races earlier and earlier in

the season. Used to be Barry.

You didn't see 3 year olds running against 4 year olds

until, gosh, June. July maybe?

Yeah, I mean. Maybe June.

July, usually. Growing up a handicapping I I

learned that you wouldn't bet 3 year olds until after Labor Day,

right? OK, there you go against older,

but that's something has changed.

I mean the whole landscape has changed.

I mean, I, I think I've mentioned this before and how we

treat layoffs are way different than we.

Well, I'll give you, I'll give you a, for instance here, this

is Philly's mayor's 3 and up. OK, There's only one four year

old in this room, right. Everyone else a three-year old.

So there's obviously no even there's not even a a they're not

even fighting anything here. So not much.

Yeah, it's a whole thing. SO17 and five of the four year

old. In this race has a pretty

decent. Change.

I think she does too. She'll run second here.

Was under Eric Asmussen last time for Steve Asmussen, but

we'll get Jose Ortiz here I think makes a lot of sense.

As well so you already know the outcome.

You said they're gonna finish second here.

Is that what I heard? I.

Don't think that's what I said. Oh, stand on business, all

right. It's in business at 12:30.

To get our pixer up at horseracinghappyhour.com.

It cost you nothing for sure. Text her.

Hey Louie, have Barry talk a little bit about his top choice

for Miss Call at race three. I'm trying to fill out this

early. Pick three.

That's not a bad thing. So let's go to race 3.

Which horse did you have in there?

Buddy? You're on the four horse here.

Yes, go ahead and talk about that.

Bill is one of my long times. Came back running that's that's

really. You love that awful layoff.

That's right. Yep.

Yes, yes, yes. Came back running.

They were off since December 20th.

Came back to April 3rd. First time with Lasix and loved

it. Keeps Lasix here.

First time Lasix in the slop I I think second time is probably

going to be a little bit better. Kenny Mcpeek does really well

second time off this kind of layoff and has a couple of works

since and they look really good. So I think all systems are go

for missed call. Hopefully we get that 12:50.

And she's done different things at Churchill.

She had was very on the pace in her mile race there on

Halloween, but then in November came from off of it in a mile

and a 16th event, Barry. So I think hopefully we'll be

able to do a little bit of a combination of both to just sit

just off. Yeah, yeah.

You know, and definitely getting around favorites is what we do

best. Texture, Louis.

The show's been great. I still haven't seen the BET

share from Dieter. Could you steer me in the right

direction? Let me find that right here.

How confident we throw back to Tanner?

How confident are we that we've got the feed and we're going to

be able to run this race? What's the zero to 10 sort of

feeling about this? We have like an 8, at least nine

and a half. Oh yeah.

What a day. Oak's Day.

Get Oh yeah guy. Oh yeah.

Oh yeah. Good stuff for sure.

Appreciate. I don't know why, but I love

having Tanner on this weekend. There's something about having

the tan dude getting a dude from Connecticut for whatever reason

for this show, I got nothing. Maybe it's the Jersey connection

That might be. I love going to the house.

Former Massachusetts guy with a Connecticut.

Guy, I'm surprised we haven't spontaneously combusted.

You're the only one here that doesn't know good pizza.

There it is, there it is. Throw to my face to try style

pizza is fine. He did bring his Duncan though,

so yeah. What's wrong with the Tri style

pizza if it's good? No, it's I get it.

The New York slice is undefeated.

I understand there's a new. Haven, it's undefeated.

Like I get it. Like both of those are great.

They're both. They're both spectacular.

I'm not gonna fight you on it. There's nothing wrong with the

good Tri style pizza though, no? It's better than the tomato soup

that you get in in Chicago. Some of the yes, I I that part I

do actually agree with towns. Lots of towns have a a unique

sort of style. Like Saint Louis has a really

nice Tavern style that really thin, almost crackery kind of

crust. See, I I like I like Detroit

style because they bring the cupped.

Yeah, the cup pepperonis. Those are great.

Yeah, for sure. That's gangster.

So go ahead, Tanner. Are we walking to the gate here

at Churchill Downs yet? I I should probably pull this up

alongside you. I just don't know if it'll let

me log in if you're using my login over there.

So I don't want to mess up anything on the computer end of

things with this. But Travis Stone, of course,

called the races out there at Churchill Downs.

Race 1, Say it again, heading now, head up to the gate.

All right, So we'll throw to that in just a second here.

Again, a maiden special way to open the card here on the Philly

and mare side, 3 and up mile and a 16th here.

Barry is on the three horse. I am on the favorite, the one

horse. What is she down to here?

I can't even imagine. The one three to five.

OK, that's actually about where I expected that horse to be

through the blinkers on here. We'll hopefully be ready to

stretch out on the second asking here.

I have that one singled in the early part of the Pick 3 here as

well. SO4379680 keep coming on the UPS

jobs checks line. Let's head out there.

Time to head out there looking like it.

Yeah, let's go ahead and throw this out to try to stop.

It's post time waiting for Sister Jean and

Epicist. They're in the gate and they're

off and off to an even start. Phantom Blue Foot inside post

races out to grab a narrow lead company though.

Mass races up with Hey Winnie and sister Jean is up there. 24

right across the track into the clubhouse.

Turn is soaring high angles in behind them to settle in the

5th. Butterfly Jasmine trying to find

stride. 6th and inside a bit keen in the opening quarter mile

to break a 2. From there.

Emphasis is the early trailer from the inside post.

Phantom Blue hits the backstretch run 6 furlongs to go

Hey when he's applying mild pressure in masses tracking

them. The opening quarter goes in 23

seconds flat, and now Phantom Blue extends the lead out to a

clear length. In the meantime, Sister Jean is

racing up on her heels and Butterfly Jasmine continues to

tussle with Brian Hernandez Junior.

They tried to slip through underneath but that hole shut

off and they're shuffled back 4 furlongs to go Phantom Blue.

Clear cut leader Far turn Sister Jean now a clear 2nd and nudged

along from there. Soaring High comes through

underneath and grabs third, passing Hey Winnie, Mass is

going the wrong way. Episis at the back of the pack

with Butterfly Jasmine as they round the far turn.

Phantom Blue trying to stave off Sister Jean.

Sister Jeans in an all out Dr. Soaring High rallies up in the

second on the outside 2 lengths to make up on Phantom Blue

three. 6/10 to do it. Phantom Blue now fully extended,

driving past the 8th pole. Soaring high continues to make

up the ground and here comes soaring high up alongside of

Phantom Blue. These two to the wire together.

Phantom Blue soaring high, soaring high, maybe soaring.

I might have just nailed Phantom Blue.

Phantom Blue did get a good Bob but might not have been enough.

Sister Jean was third. All right, there you go, Travis

Stone on the call opening race, soaring high off the off the

layoff. Speaking of off the layoff and

from off the pace, Barry. So you know, not the scenario

that Jonny P warned us about. Just gate to wire to open this

thing. Certainly that's what they were

going to try with the one horse in phantom blue there, but it is

the six horse in soaring high. Irad Ortiz Junior with his first

win on the car go let's go ahead and give Irad an over under for

the day. He's got to win at least three.

Right. I mean, he's got chopsticks in

the next race and that one could absolutely win.

Right, he's got to win at. Least I got him on top yeah so

could be really interesting here but yes the six horse gets home

soaring high daughter of Curlin in her second race ever A good

angle for Cherie Devoe as well. 437968 our UPS jobs text line.

Texture betting horses for me is like shoot myself in the foot

yeah no, I get it Texture betting horse for me is like

shooting half court shots with my eyes closed.

But man, I'm going to keep trying texture.

I'll take Wicks beer nose at Cliftons over any of your fancy

Yankee pizza texter. Hey Louie, did you post your

pic? Sorry, I meant to write it down

and I didn't. Yes, horse racing. happyhour.com

and I will type that out for you.

How about that? Bang, go check that out.

There you go, My top pick runs a second there, so we will have to

regroup in a Race 2 it was thirds.

Look at that. That's why.

No chalk zone. That's why they give us a 13

races to bet on. Your noises today have delighted

the crowd, by the way. So there you go, Texture.

Nothing like a good Bob. Thank you.

Thank you. Texture.

Yes, thank you. Appreciate that.

I don't know any. Any good bobs?

They're all bad bobs. Just bad bobs.

Bob Dabolina. Who's Bob?

That sounds like hardest racing. That sounds like hardest.

Racing bobbed. What?

That just sounds like hardest racing song.

I know it is, but it sounds like hardest racing, doesn't it?

Yeah. Yeah, OK.

Yeah, yeah. Like he's at the Big MA Little

too often. It would be Mobine Mobine.

Oh, he's a good boy. Mobine A.

Little Mohawk, there you go. With Dave Pallone, right?

Yes. I you and I haven't really

talked since full effort got scratched from the Kentucky

Derby, and we'll get back into the Oaks Day conversation here.

We'll get back into this at that texture.

Boom. This is why you 2 are the best

at the ESP at Louisville. We'll all lose our money

together. Thank you.

The silotactic scratch. There you go.

Silotactic scratch and the full effort scratch.

Between. Those two, who would you have

had higher in your handicapping? Full effort.

OK. Full effort.

I feel like that's actually a pretty consequential scratch

from this race. Yeah, I, I think he had a really

good shot. I mean, I, I've said this all

week that I thought his run in the Ruby and, and the way he

closed was very similar to Renegade.

It just wasn't as flashy on that kind of a stage.

But that horse was finishing up really, really well.

And I didn't think the 20 post was too much of A hindrance for

me either. I agree.

Yeah, it did not feel that way at all.

I totally agree with you. You know, it's going to be

interesting where he shows up, if he's going to show up again

in a stake on the dirt or in a stake on the grass or in a stake

on the synthetic. I mean, he's got options.

In the Derby as well, Robusta draws in with the defection of

Right to Party. Kenny Mcpeak with thoughts about

that. I won't read those on air, but

I'm sure you can tell what they are like.

Man, he bobbled coming out of the gate.

Did Robusta last out in the San Anita Derby?

You and I were there and he did all the work in the San Felipe

before Barry. There was a long time in that

race I thought he was. I thought he won.

I thought he was going to win. He gets rundown by Potente at

the very end. Potente, of course, shows off

the other day with a bullet, bullet kind of work here at

Churchill Downs. Barry, this is a horse that's

going to be out of the O'Neill barn.

So if you look at the workout times and start to obsess with

those, you're going to miss on that.

Don't do that. He's Doug O'Neill's impossible

to read because of, of a couple of different things.

He's just a chill guy #1 and #2 They, they live by that barn

motto of why not us? They really do.

And they just run their horses. They don't train their horses to

run. They run their horses to run.

They run them into shape, if you will.

We think of the, the Mcpeaks and the Lucas's, frankly, the

Beckmans of the world doing that these days.

Saffy, I put in that list down in Florida as well.

What do you make of Robusta? At least going to stretch the

the pace early, right? Yeah, I think that's really the

only thing that horse is going to do in this race.

I mean, even if you take out that San Felipe, he looks rather

ordinary, which I think he is. But we need some pace into this

race, so I think it's going to be interesting to have him in it

instead of a couple others, but I'm not sure how.

Or I think Renegade could possibly be the beneficiary of

that horse getting in. There you go, the.

Faster the better up front for for renegade.

Yeah, 437-9680 UPS jobs tax like give him more of a time to

adjust that essentially right work out a trip once he gets to

and. Have him back up.

I mean, you know, Renegade's going to need some help here,

whether it's, you know, horses like the the seas parting for

him or him just going way outside and everybody just

backing up into him. But it's going to be a difficult

trip for a horse like Renegade. That's why I'm not willing to

take a a short price. Lots of people liked your poll

there from Mr. Bob Alina. I like that.

I miss Dom Alina. Yeah, Dell, the funky homo

sapien. There it is, nice Dell the funny

homo sapien pull from Barry coming down on the text.

Line. They know.

They know what's. Up.

They do know what's up. That's right.

I have a diverse listenership. I have learned.

That person's got to be old. I I said diverse.

It's age, it's it's, it's gender, it's lots of different

things, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Age especially, though. I don't think that's.

One of the cool things about horse is about about horse.

Race 20. Year olds sports talk radio, you

get mean texts from 20 year olds and 80 year olds you just do.

It's like. There's no 20 year olds that

know Dell the funky homo sapien. Oh man, thanks for hanging out

with the Horse Racing Happy Hour on this Oaks Friday.

We're on ESPN 680 and One O 57 presented by Derby Box

derbybox.com for last minute tickets today and tomorrow ahead

of the races. Maybe you made the decision or

your buddy texted you and said why don't we might go to the

Oaks or something. It's 820 may have.

How many people do you hear from about once a year this weekend?

At least fifty I have my. Number's at least 30.

And I'm terrible because I haven't checked my Facebook

Messenger in probably about 3 weeks.

Facebook Messenger. Is that turning into?

AIM is that, is that turning like slowly into that?

Yeah, Like we're getting to that level, right?

Kind of, yeah. But yeah, I turn off those

notifications and I go in like once a month and then I just

answer everybody back. There you go.

I know it's filling up because I see the numbers on my phone.

Just who do you like on Saturday?

Who do you like on Friday? Quick break on the other end,

the 11:40 segment will do 2 stakes previews there.

The ninth race today is the Alley Sheba.

We will talk about that race up next and then race tent as well.

The modesty. We'll get into both of those

before the top of the hour. This is the horse racing happy

hour, ESPN 681057. All right, welcome back in Oaks

day with the horse racing happy hour.

He's Barry Spears. I'm Lou Remote San Bruno on the

ones and twos today. Appreciate him hanging out with

us. 437-9680, 502-437-9680 our UPS jobs text.

I would love to hear from you no matter where you are listening

around the country, frankly around the world.

This show is huge in Poland, believe it or not people.

As it's. The happy hour is big in Poland.

I have no idea why, but we have something like.

I have some ponies. I got a big following in Poland

by the. Way Do you know why?

So horse racing's not insignificant.

It's a lower level. They're kind of feeder to

Germany sort of thing. But all of them, watch all of

the high level. They love all the Arabian

racing, so they watch races in UAE and that kind of stuff

because there's a ton of dirt racing and then it translates to

the US and they've kind of discovered American racing.

So yeah, if a if a Polish person happens to be listening,

+150243799680. Yeah, please.

Yeah, we'd love to hear from you.

Yeah, from, from Old Polska, we'd love to hear from you.

I, we discovered that through Spotify hosts, our, our, you

know, all of our metrics and that kind of stuff.

And I was going through the internationals, I was expecting

to just see Canada and nothing else.

And then we got up to like 83 countries with subscribers and

freaking Poland was right up there.

I think we have 3 or 400 listeners a week from Poland.

Wow, I don't. Even know what to do with that.

How do I monetize that? What are we selling?

Is it vodka? Is it potato vodka?

Is that what we need to be selling on the happy hour?

Obviously there you go 43796 goose couple 4 steaks to go

through the the alley. Shiba, you and I have talked

about just a little bit with both guests that we had on.

And you know, John said something that I really, I

really believe as well, Barry, which is, you know, a horse like

Skippy, a horse like Baeza, horses like East Avenue coming

back to Pan St. Grande.

This is the very best of our sport when we get to see high

level horses running year after year for years on the happy

hour, we told people fall in love with the Phillies because

they're just going to run longer, right?

Just do it typically just fall in love with the Phillies.

It's much, much easier as as far as being a racing fan then, oh,

I really like this horse that ran a couple times at 3:00 and

then we'd never see them again, right.

It would be considerably more fun to be able to follow a

horse. But you know, just, you know,

breeding rights and all those things are what they are.

In the the Ali Sheba, though, we get sort of a contrast of coming

off the layoff new barn with Baeza Grande, who's shown it a

couple times this year, as long alongside a Skippy.

You're leaning toward Grande here.

Why are you doing that? Well, I I always say.

A lot of the It's a hard album there, I'll tell.

You a lot of the best races that we get are ones where there's

horses who clearly have a lot of talent but also have a lot of

question marks. And this race is that because of

the layoffs. You Baeza hasn't been out in a

while. Grande we haven't seen a whole

lot of Tepan St. has a lot of questions, especially after the

the Pegasus E avenue we just saw get back knew what's new is is

kind of the up and coming faster horse Skippy 7 years old

corporate power may not have the class to win a race like this.

So to me that that spells that this might be a lot more evenly

matched than than anything else. But a horse like Grande, to me,

his body of work so far has been, has just shown a lot of

talent. I, I mean, obviously his record,

he's he's 4 for five with a, with a second to Rodriguez in,

in the wood memorial where he was a lone leader.

I, I just think his talent is superior.

I, I, I'm just amazed that the line was 8 to 1.

I really think this horse probably will go all favored.

Someone suggested we get Beat Vodka Beat.

Do they make vodka out of beats? I.

Mean I'm is. It red.

I'm leading. Into the polls here because

Belvedere and Chopin are both like known as like super high

level good vodka top shelf yeah you know you know you and I not

big drinkers but yeah no on the. I've seen it at the top.

I go to restaurants. I've seen it up there.

Beet vodka is a distilled spirit made from sugar beets, offering

a smooth, slightly sweet and earthy flavor profile.

This is bury all over it. I mean this thing.

That might be a sweet. But fruity beets, look at this,

a fruity ass looking drink. I think you'd like this thing.

My my wife's from out the Eastern bloc and and I don't eat

beets, she does in root. Vegetables.

Damn right. Yeah, you live in a part of the

world with no sun, but I got to do.

That with the beef vodka though, I I would get down with that for

sure. I get it.

At least a shot just to see what it tastes like.

But then I'd probably be really tipsy.

Yeah, I'm a lightweight. Yes, you are.

How much? How much is Japan St. 4:00 to

1:00 because of Flavia Pratt and Brad Cox.

I think that's the sole reason, OK, because honestly, we haven't

seen what this horse can do. Not recently.

Right. No, I I mean, he ran good

against sovereignty and yes, that's a feather in his cap for

sure. But.

That was before, do it again, right?

That was before an injury. Yes, that's correct.

We haven't seen him be able to do it again.

His race the in the Pegasus leaves a lot to be desired, so

we'll see. 4 to 1 seems like a really short price to take on a

horse like that and I don't that's why I mean I I think you

can flip their morning lines. Grande and Tappan St.

By the way, Disruptor not running today means he'll run in

the Churchill Downs tomorrow. Do you like that?

For disruptor, no, this is probably a better spot.

I think it was too. I thought his challenger was OK

enough to try this spot. I'm a little surprised they're

going to try them in the Churchill Downs.

But hey, Todd Pletcher knows a lot more about this than four

through 796 eighties. Our UPS jobs tech slide next

race in the sequence is the 10th race, Barry, the modesty A grade

3 here at a mile and an eighth half. 1,000,000 bucks on the

line of this one. And we've talked about this race

a little bit with the return of Gazora here.

What does the race look like if she wins Barry?

Just like it did in the Breeders Cup.

Out of out of the clouds, yeah. Yep, she's she's going to be,

you know, kind of fledgling near the back.

And then all of a sudden you'll see this flash with green silks

coming way on the outside just to scoop them all up.

All right, I guess the beet vodka was actually a joke about

Dwight. Oh, I see.

This is where Office. OK, I'm going to get in a lot of

trouble. Are people ready?

Yeah, I think the office is OK, but like the British office is

cringy and awesome. I I have heard Ricky Gervais,

it's unbelief fantastic. He enters the room and you just

your butt hole gets puckered like 'cause you are just ready

for whatever. He's about to say, do I want

that? It is a very specific kind of of

show. I think the office is OK, it's

OK, but the British office is like it is.

It's a full body experience. I've seen it and the Brit

version is is definitely better. OK, but not much.

I don't think people agree with me.

I'll give you an example. Not much.

An American show that is better. Whose line is it anyway?

With the American version? Way better than the British

version. Like, not close.

Like at those early ones. Yeah, but with Ryan and those

guys, I mean, like, those are Colin.

I mean, those are great episodes.

Brady makes Malcolm X. Oh, man.

No, it's way. Brady makes.

Yeah. No.

Look like Malcolm X. Oh, Bryant Gobble look like.

Oh boy, after Fried Gumble, by the way, there.

Was a goat dude Main. There you go.

I know where he went to school. Yeah.

He's a goat, though, Bates Nothing wrong with the gumbles,

Gumble and gobble. One of my favorite random Family

Guy made-up TV shows. It's just a spectacular.

I mean, Tanner, you can jump in on any of these ridiculous

references if you want to, but I think that's just a really,

really great one. I like pit up Betty in this spot

too, as as a runner coming out of that race in in the Jenny

Wiley. That was at a very, very you

know, that was the dead heat that everyone didn't think was a

dead heat. Oh, man.

But I think pent up Betty ended up she's gonna run tomorrow, I

think. Is she or is she still in this

race? Are you on the?

I think she's still in. OK, I think she's an interesting

one to watch here. I'm fascinated by Juan Hernandez

picking up that mount for Mike Maker, but he and Mike Maker 2

for their last nine at Churchill Downs together as well, so

should be interesting in that field.

Behind Gazora, though, in Race 10 I have the two horses.

No, she's out. Oh, she is out.

OK. Pin up, Betty's out.

There you go, I liked her in this spot.

I'll I'll try Proctor St. coming out of that.

Hillsborough picks up Tyler again and she won that race.

As Johnny P pointed out earlier in the show in the Cardinal here

at Churchill, one for two lifetime with a second place

finish as well. I do like that, you know,

experience over the newer version of the turf course.

Yeah, yeah, definitely. And by the way, the loss was in

an optional claimer. I'll take the fact that the win

was in it's steaks company at least.

Yeah, absolutely. I I know the the turf course is,

is like a whole different thing than it used to be and you can't

even compare it. I'm getting I'm getting some

backup on the British version being better.

I'm happy to see this. No, because like I always want

support No, but sometimes those are just taste things and that's

OK. Of course there's there's lots

of different flavors of ice cream right and that's all

right, but like I what well, you're making a face.

I don't like that. Well, I mean, I like it, but I.

You know. I can't keep talking if you make

that face. It's almost like I was

describing the other day with Brian Lynch and the the Pat de

Mile. OK.

So I I think that's more of the turn off than it is the actual

show itself. Oh, it's just how people talk.

Yeah, yeah, I get it. Yeah, No, it's annoying.

My favorite, one of my favorite moments in the in the history of

the English language is the movie Trainspotting.

Oh yeah, the the Heroine movie based in Scotland and they go in

the bar and they have to subtitle the conversation even

though it's in English. I used to love that on reality

shows. They used to do it on reality.

Shows like like. Hoarders where they go to

somebody's backwoods place. Montana somewhere they just

understand the person just mush mouth.

Oh man. But that scene, that scene in

transponding is just unbelievable.

I mean it's just unbelievable that they have to freaking

subtitle that thing. Outside of her though, you're

going to try to beat I imagine Ghazora in this spot you're

going to look right next to. Her stablemates, Catherine

Marissa and In Whiskey Decision all are formidable foes for the

stablemate. I'm going with the higher price.

Catherine Marissa had some really good runs last year and

if they can get back to that form, they're right there with

Gazora. I I know that that buyer that

Gazora got in the in the Breeders cup was fairly large,

but I think it was a little overinflated.

So I I think they're more towards like 100 rather than

105. And I think if Catherine,

Marissa just it gets a good trip, they can get that same you

have. Addresstea 3rd in your Oh no you

don't. I'm looking at the wrong race.

You have a three horse here. Third of your race and whiskey

decision. Are you going to play the Chad

Brown try here. Absolutely.

OK, yeah, that seems pretty reasonable in this spot.

So in race 10 I'm 62 and 5, Barry 5-6 and three.

You can find all of our pics up at horseracinghappyhour.com.

Just click on the tip sheets. Everything's free up there.

It's also a one stop for all of the shows that I work on.

Any horse racing content that I do, whether it's here at ESPN

Louisville with Blood Horse or here on the happy hour itself,

all of it goes straight there, aggregates to that one spot.

So if you're looking for anything, you're able to find it

there. Barry, I just got a notification

from the New York Times. Breaking news, Spirit Airlines

prepares to shut down. Which airline are you flying on

Sunday? Spirit.

And what did I do as a good friend?

You brought me to the New frontier.

I bought you a secondary ticket. Looks like I'm driving you to

Cincinnati to go home. So they go.

What a bleeping week, man. Man, Jesus.

I have no idea. Oh, the good stuff for sure

4379680 is the UPS jobs text line.

Make sure you get in with us that way.

One more hour to go on the show. We will get into the rest of the

card. We will get you a live preview

for a race 2. Barry, let's go ahead and do

that right now. Who do you have in Race 2?

You landed on the five. I landed on the three.

What do you like about the five in Race 2?

The five horse who is, let me bring it up here.

Yeah, this horse, what really caught my eye is if February 5th

lost to a horse by the name of Evanescence who's a pretty good

horse, Stakes caliber type, ran pretty good that day.

Came back running similar figure to what they did prior to the

layoff. And then last time was 4 wide.

They drew the seven out of seven at Oaklawn.

I think getting a good post position here switched to Jose

Ortiz. I think that's money in the

bank. I don't know what the odds are

right now. Yeah, go ahead, grab those.

But I think I think we're good money there, it looks like.

This six to one, OK six to one for Barry's top choice here

keeps the six to one number. Eddie Kennealy off to a nice

start here in this meet as well. 2 for three already at Churchill

Downs this week. I landed on the three horse here

in Chopsticks coming out of the Frizzette.

Was a winner at the Debutante at Ellis Park and broke her maiden

here at Churchill before I'm guessing Barry.

She is 2 to one. Close 5:00 to 2:00.

OK, five to two on my top choice here.

A daughter of essential quality goes the one turn a mile here

for 134,000 Tanner, As far as a break, if I wanted to carry this

race at 1:00, should we just keep talking for two more

minutes or is the break short enough that we can fit these

things together? What I'd come back essentially

with the race. It would be like perfect timing

if we went right now. Go to break right now.

All right, welcome back, Jen. Race 2 about to go live here at

Churchill Downs. Appreciate everybody hanging out

with us on the horse racing Happy hours Preview here on

ESPN681-O57A1 mile event here. Allowance optional, claiming

$134,000 on the line, $80,000 optional.

Claimer Here I am on the three horse Chopsticks.

Barry is on the five horse Quantum Burst in this one.

They're headed to the gate, so Tanner take it away.

And the horses have reached a starting gate.

It's post time waiting for White Rocks and five aside

there near the gate and they're off.

A good start for Mafi Dr. toward the inside.

White Rocks is away. Well, sudden switch from the

downside. Post is racing out there too.

In fact, it's crossing over the front of the field to lead the

way down the backstretch run. 5A side quickly joints from the far

outside as well as they make that slight bend left onto the

main track and it's a Mafi drive down inside with a short lead.

Maintains that lead onto the main course.

Sudden switch is right there racing second though. 5A side of

the outside. Third White Rocks toward the

inside, 4th in as promised, and 5th Chopsticks comes on, grabs

6th deck it in, buried at the inside. 7th tight pack though.

Quantum burst at the trailer, only 6 lengths off the leader,

and that leader is Al Mafi Dr. The opening quarter in 23

seconds flat. The half and 46 and one far turn

run. Al Mafi Dr. leads the way just

under a length, Sudden switch and Jamie Taurus right on the

flank and now edging forward and these two knocking heads around

the far turn together. 5 aside, sidles up three wide and it's

just off them. Chopsticks with a wide trip.

White rocks in behind horses, so do it As promised.

They hit the top of the stretch on Mafi Drive, cut the corner

off the turn. Short lead, short lead on Mafi

drive 3 sixteenths to go. Sudden switch starts to give

way, 5 aside trying to rally late.

White Rocks in behind Al Mafi Drive clear by 200 yards to go.

5 aside is up into second, but it's a Mafi Dr. riding the rail

to victory to win it by three. In the end, 5 Aside was second,

White Rocks was third, and Sudden Switch finished fourth.

All right, there you go, One horse.

I'm off the drive. Getting some prices early,

Barry, the end of the world there like that.

Brian Hernandez, junior, as he does many times.

Churchill Downs goes ahead and cuts the corner there, gets the

win for trainer Michael Stidham. Second race on the Kentucky Oaks

card. Previewing that with Barry

Spears. My name's Lou Rebell, This is

the horse racing happy hour. Thanks for hanging out with us

so far on the program. Appreciate everybody making us

part of their Oaks day. All of our picks are up at

horseracinghappyhour.com. Hopefully those will get better

as the stakes get going. Barry, you and I, I will be

doing most of our betting today. We've been doing early talk

through the different parts of this.

But hey, let's get back into the Kentucky Derby, at least for

this segment. New, new listenership, maybe

people driving to the track getting ready for their Derby

parties tomorrow. We had the scratch today, Barry,

excuse me, of the five horse in here.

Excuse me, right to party slides, everybody in.

And for our guy Sean Collins, this was a very important day.

Do you know why? It was his right to party.

It's a good question, a good answer actually, from you.

He probably isn't aware of what the Beastie Boys are.

He has to. He's 26.

Do we think Sean Collins knows who the?

I'm going to go. You know what my gut is telling

me? He absolutely knows.

We're going to talk to Sean. He's heart of the show tomorrow.

He's. Not with us.

So you know, he he. Knows the old one.

He's. Got an old soul, I'll say.

That he does have an old soul. That part is legitimate.

But I just don't see him listening to to music.

Like I think he listens to race calls and nothing else.

Like I think that's you know how like I have a white noisemaker

for my kids, you know, they go to sleep.

His is just Larry Calmus, like Travis Stone just puts him to

sleep every night. I'm going with the Marshall

Cassidy. Further Ado with an earlier

scratch what by silent tactic had moved into the 17 post.

Yes, for Sean that is a very, very important thing.

He has now slid into in 16 post. So Further Ado can now win the

Derby again, according to Sean Collins, our colleague for Blood

Horse. Hey, whatever gets it done.

Magic. Caring about that, it's really

incredible, Jason laughed. At us, but I get it.

There's over 49 is over 49. Right.

There's something to it. It is, man.

It's got to be. It's a trend.

But Robusta draws into the field and Barry, this is one of the

things we tried to do throughout the week.

We'll do this again tomorrow as we do our Derby preview horses

we saw with our own eyeballs this year.

You know, Barry, I'll take a little bit of an aside here.

When I first started doing this job, I felt a little guilty

about the access, about getting to watch races and different

things. But what I discovered was.

You need it. No, but all your all the people

who listen or watch or whatever know that you're going to be the

person who's there. So they want to hear your

opinions of what you saw. It's not a na na na Boo Boo.

I get to go to the race and you don't kind of thing like I've

never felt that way for sure. It's why we do the seminar for

free, because I want people to just be able to hang out.

It's why we try to do as many, you know, tip sheets are free

like that kind of stuff. I want people to have access.

So I got over that. You would have extended clip for

the betters. Bullets I like.

I like extendo. Robust is going to get into this

race and you and I saw that horse run the best race of its

life and that was in the San Felipe the Mile on the 16th

event on the 7th of March over at Santa Anita Park.

We were there for Big Cab day. Of course, British Isles, our

guy sea Bass and he happens to be listening.

He's not shadow British Isles got it done.

He screamed about that horse for three days.

He was totally right by by lengths and lengths.

By far and a price. Robusta comes in in that race

almost wins, gets passed by Patente and without that win by

the way, Patente would be, would have been I mean sitting at

considerably less out, yeah, I mean.

Or on the. Edge or needed needed that that

run in the San Anita Derby instead goes ahead and gets the

lead in the San Anita Derby gets run down by so happy.

But you saw Robusta. You made the comment earlier in

the show that you think this is more pace setting and then going

to fade is do you still feel that way?

Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, no chance.

No chance. None. 0.

Because of the front running style, yes, OK, OK, got it.

So like you would you would think in your mind then let me

let's just do this. The three that came in off the

list. OK, So what is reasonable to

look at Barry after the draw is if a horse draws in, that means

they were way down the point standings, right?

I mean, that's just a fair thing to say.

It's just true great white, Ocelli, robusta, all in this

field now because they drew in. I know who your favorite is of

those 3 and it's great white. Yes, but I don't I don't think

he's going to finish better than maybe Ocelli.

I I would take. Ocelli out of the three, let's

talk about that. You know, Ocelli draws in and

this is Whit Beckman and when I talked to him when he drew in, I

did his first interview after he drew in, OK, he said, Yep, Joe

Ramos is going to ride and then full effort scratches and all of

a sudden Tyler guy finally owns available and guess what

happens? He gets they go to Tyler Tyler

on this horse who finished third in the wood was last early

essentially, I mean very, very back of the field by 9 legs way

off does all of the running late essentially the same race as

right to party. Let's be very clear, Ocelli to

hit the board, what percentage? I'll put it at one in every six

times they run this race. He hits the board.

Yeah, I'd say probably about 15%.

That's about what? Yep.

So I think 17% is what I put out there.

OK, Yeah, no, I think that's reasonable.

And it's, look, a Kinect cult. Once in a while you see these

curling babies, you know, just stay and then they close and

they get a path and they're just able to figure it out.

He did that in the Wood Memorial.

I think an underrated part of bad races, Barry, is that you

have to pass bad horses. You have to actually cut and

make different moves and do those things.

We talk about it in other sports all the time, whether it's a

running back or a guard or something like that.

In basketball, you know, it is underrated to me that when a

horse just stops in front of you, you have to adjust because

if you stop, you're done. Race like the Derby, especially

if you get stopped, you're done. Sally though is an interesting 1

for me. Yeah, I could see why.

What Beckman likes this horse and thinks that this horse is

the stakes winner, because I believe he is.

He just hasn't gotten too much luck and no setups.

He's getting a better setup here for sure.

And he seems a little bit agile in in being able to pass horses

on the fly without losing momentum.

That's really key in a race like the Derby where you got twenty

horses, you know, 19 of them in this case will probably be

backing up into Ocelli. You know, having Tyler Gafflione

is is probably a really good thing.

Not that JD Ramos isn't, but at least you know he's won a

classic race before, he's won the Preakness and he's been in a

lot of big races that JD Ramos. And by the way, that Ride I.

Would give him a shot in this race because you have nothing to

lose but. War of will, that ride he did in

the Preakness up the rail is one of the better rides he.

Had he had a great race in the Derby before he got wiped?

Out No, that's right. He was really good on Sierra

Leone. I that was always one where it

was. A maximum security just took him

out, yeah. Well, 19 as well, you're right.

Yeah, yeah. War Will's nice little horse.

He's turned a nice little sire, too.

Turfy. He's turfy.

Sure. But yeah, but I mean that.

But yeah, but you win a Pimlico when you're turfy, right?

That seems to be correct how it goes for sure.

But it does affect the speed in this race.

We expect Robusta to go to the front.

We also expect 6 speed to try to get to the lead as well as the

second place finisher in the UAE Derby.

Is there a world in which, because the speed's coming from

outside Barry, that actually Renegade might be OK from the

inside? Yeah, if they go fast enough and

and enough of them go because then out the field and then

that's basically what a horse like Renegade would need is

everybody to get a little bit strung out.

Because that way they could get through traffic without going

way wide. They could kind of cut inside of

horses at some point and then kind of gravitate towards the

outside on the far turn for the straight run.

But that's where everything gets a little dicey is usually on the

turns where where horses are starting to spit the bit out

and, and back up and you know, get really, really tired.

So you got to be careful there. That's that's where a lot of

that action where horses get taken out is right at the top of

the stretch there. 437-9680 our UPS jobs Tax Salon talking

through a little bit of the changes in the Kentucky Derby

ahead of it. And and I just the reason I ask

Barry is because you know, Renegade's going to break next

to Elvis. Not a fast breaker next to

Intrepido who is capable of breaking quickly but did not

last out Litmus test who's going to have to go.

It did break well in the Rebel. OK and then right to party is

out of here. So commandment moves into the

five and he's not a good breaker.

OK. And that's frankly, if you

wanted to be against commandment moving down to the five and not

breaking great historically, might be a problem, might be a

problem at this point Renegade in the one or commandment in the

five. Where are you at on that?

I, I would like honestly renegade a little bit more

because of the fact that commandment just breaks slow a

lot. And, and that's really the only

reason I'm cold on him in here because I think he's going to

get he's going to have to get good position at some point in

this race. And usually that starts early

on. If he doesn't get out of the

gate, he's in a lot of trouble. We've seen horses, you know,

just not even get a shot at it by breaking slow.

I forget who it was a couple years ago.

It was the the turf horse there. Which race the Derby?

Yeah. And listen, that didn't have,

yeah, didn't have his, his feet in the irons, just.

Oh, that was I was saying Yep. And I rallied for top ten, but

like, right, that was the best it was going to do because of

that. Correct.

And that's what I, I kind of foresee a little bit with

commandment. He just doesn't get out fairly

well and does does some catching up.

But once he gets going, he gets going.

But I I'm also afraid that if he gets stopped he's not going to

be able to starting up and quicken like he normally should,

so he's got to be clear the whole time.

You've been on the Puma all week, have you changed your

thoughts at all? No, Sir, we're on the Puma.

Puma. Puma, I appreciate you.

That's terrible. No, but I appreciate you

embracing how stupid that joke is.

It's very stupid. It's perfect for this show.

I. Feel like Peyton Manning right

now. It's bad jokes filled with.

Concussions or what? No, not yet.

Not that bad jokes yeah, that's me.

I'm more the Peyton Manning of the show.

Many head injuries not surprising to anyone 437-9680

are UPS jobs tech slide Barry Spears I'd.

Be giving out head butts. Tanner Bruno SL Liu Yerabo

hanging out. What?

What, with a Dome like this? Yeah.

OK. Yeah, no.

Tanner heard his name. I just freaked him out.

Yeah, I'm just freaking out. Just admitting he's on the show.

That's like. Limu imu over here my head like

give me some aviator glasses that look like.

Have you ever fed? Have you ever fed an emu?

It's terrifying. They're giant dinosaurs with

feathers and they're terrifying. Yes, they're excitable.

The head speed mark, that is terrifying.

Go ahead. Tanner's gonna jump in on this,

I imagine. But it's like emus are.

Yeah, it's terrifying. They look like freaking

dinosaurs in movies. It's unbelievable.

I think it was an emu. It could have been an ostrich

though. Have you ever seen them run?

Oh, it's terrifying. No, they're.

So fast they're. 45 miles an. Hour I saw a dinosaur.

Let's actually do it over under. What's your over under highest

speed for like a measured ostrich or emu?

I don't hear, oh, I'm going higher than that.

I think like 50. I'm going to go.

I'll go, I'll do the Price is right thing 38 1/2.

All right, let's see. Top speed for an EMU, 31 miles

an hour. Bang, that's insane.

And an ostrich. That's terrifying.

I saw I. Saw 45 miles an hour.

Oh. Boy.

Tanner man, if this is Price is Right, you'd lose.

But that's pretty darn close. 45 miles an hour ostrich.

No one needs that, dude. No one needs that.

That's not that. I saw a dinosaur in Saint

Augustine. It's called a cassowary.

Oh yeah, those yes, yes. They're like 62 and they,

they're, they're terrifying their faces.

I know. They've got like the blue that

the like the blood red underneath and they've got the

Turkey thing hanging off like Google that.

Nightmare. Too.

It's another flightless bird. It is nightmare.

Feel bad. Oh man.

And I think there are many kinds of cassowary, actually, which is

pretty crazy texter. So Barry, let us know he's a

Velociraptor fan and what it sounds like.

What sound does an EBU make? Find it, Tanner, find it.

Emu sounds. Let's go find it.

Oh, I thought he's. For the 1:00 hour.

I just thought they sold insurance.

My bad. I do like that.

Very funny. The commercial where the where

Doug goes is this kids meeting with the teacher, parent teacher

conference. He's like wait, at least spelled

insurance correctly did it. He did not.

No, he did not. Oh man the good stuff for sure.

437-9680 UPS have sex like keep. A I imagine they sound like a

goose, right? Like a honk.

We're going to find out in about 5 seconds here, I think.

I think Tanner's going to come through for us on what emus

sound like at this point. I've made the case many times on

this show and I and producer Zach, who usually hangs out with

us on Rabonco is is in line with me completely.

The Eastern Michigan changed their name.

You know, they used to be named after the Huron tribe.

So they were the Hurons before and they had a like, of course,

one of the dope logos and all that stuff, like great stuff.

But of course, you know, when times change, change the logo,

you know, and all that. And they went to the Eagles and

it's like your EMU. You could have been the emus.

That's a terrifying mascot, right?

Like, terrifying. I was not expecting the.

Fighting Emus. All right, here we go.

EBU sounds. It's a dinosaur.

I don't need to get turned on right now.

See, that's not what. That's how we're trying to.

Do here. Oh my God, bro, I'm telling you,

they stick. They like you go to these

wildlife preserves and they give you the buckets to feed the

emus. If you want to terrify your

child forever, do that. Oh, it's unbelievable.

It's terrifying. We'll take a break here.

We'll do a Race 3 preview up next.

And of course, preview races 11:00 and 12:00 will go through

the Oaks field to close this thing up.

Barry, already only two more segments to go.

We're presented by Derby Box, derbybox.com.

If you're looking for last minute tickets today or

tomorrow, check out our friend Doug and his team at

derbyboxderbybox.com. And of course, if you're looking

around Kentucky, HPPA, KY, hppa.com always hanging out with

us throughout our Oaks and Derby coverage.

Appreciate them very much and of course you hear them as part of

the Kentucky racing spotlight throughout the year as well.

We preview race 3 and races 11 to 12 on the car.

We do it next right hanging out with Taylor Bruno Besso on a

beautiful Friday here in the Commonwealth Kentucky Oaks day

here on ESPN 680 and one O 5 seven across from Barry My

name's Lou Urbault thanks for hanging out with us.

We'll talk about race 11. We'll get you ready right after

that for race 3 upcoming at Churchill Downs.

We'll have the play by play the race call for that I should say

when we get to that point as well.

But the LA Troy Inn is today bury one of the one of the

races. I always look forward to this

time of year as we try to sort out the early stages of the

distaff division within our sport here mile and a 16th on

the dirt 1,000,000 bucks on the line race 11 today.

Barry Bless the broken. The one is 9 to 2 and here shred

the NAR coming out of the Royal Delta will be the three to 1

morning line favorite 7 to 2 for fully subscribed who won the

comely last time out is my top selection in here off the layoff

for Chad Brown. But you laid it on the seven in

here. A slightly different way would

chase it. Brad Cox, we know that I still

agrees with you on this one. Yeah, I, I, I think that horse

stands to get a really good trip right behind the speed of Shred

Dinar and a couple of others. If anything, looking at the

first couple of races, Shred Dinar might have a little bit of

an advantage here if they if they can shake loose.

It was hard to run down these horses on the lead, but I think

there's enough pace for it. Dry powder is interesting to me

as well at a decent price. Kind of coming back.

We watched that Summers win yesterday, yeah.

And he clearly he can get the horse ready.

That horse hadn't been out in a while.

This one has been running a little bit, won the last race at

Gulfstream, sets themselves up very well to come into this

spot. Hopefully we can get that

number. But see.

Michael Columbus just told me which number is his on the text

line. I don't need that in my life.

Michael Columbus, right? Be anonymous.

It's OK. Yeah, man, trying.

To have a civilization, Barry trying to have a civilization.

I don't get this at all. It's actually you all are

completely underrating Renegade's ability to run

closer. Look for him to settle front of

mid pack. If he does that, he wins

Kentucky Derby. Yeah.

If he's like the fourth horse going into the second, it's

over. His kick away, him further ado.

That's the two when we're done here, maybe a closer of some

sort coming to find them, But if you give Renegade the top spot

in the mid pack where he's getting the least amount of dirt

and all that, dude, he's going to be a.

Problem. Yeah, that that's why it's it's

going to be interesting. What sort of tactics do they

employ? Because are they going to try to

force the issue and and kind of get into the race or are they

just going to concede that they're not going to get there

and swoop the field? To me, those are the only two

options unless they just break and fall into a dream spot,

which is also possible out there.

So it just makes for a tough trip all the way around and I

can't take a short price on that. 798 for Barry agrees with

me on the 9 horse there. I went. 945 Slightly different

than you there, Barry. Second and third Miss Justify

one of the longer shots on the board for me out of the Pletcher

barn and into the Walsh barn, which means she's been here in

the state of Kentucky for a while.

Got a nice breeze the other day over the Churchill Downs track

and she doesn't do this distance too terribly off in the mile and

a 16th. But when she did the one time

she won, and that was here at Churchill in the Seneca

overnight. That was under Luis Saez.

Tyler picks up the mount here and while I don't know if she

wins here, Barry, I think Miss Justifies absolutely going to be

part of the equation. Comes back first start as a 5

year old. I don't think this is an

accident for Brendan Walsh. I think this is exactly where he

wants her to. Be.

Yeah, yeah, that it totally does.

All signs point to this horse running well.

I think so too, Miss Justify. Of course, the daughter of

Justify. Majestic perfection on the damn

side. Now a 5 year old boy seen her a

bunch on the track. This will only be her 10th start

though in her career. Fully subscribe though in the 9

here Barry I I kind of made my case when's the coming Mens

Mother Goose before that making the move from aqueduct to here

usually you know I think of oh is the horse going to like the

surface? I don't worry about this horse

ran really well there at at Saratoga as well.

I think the formal travel as well, yeah.

Yeah, it should the the class you know, this horse is running

with pretty good horses. Beat Drexel Hill in The Mother

Goose, but we haven't seen the source in a while.

There's always a question mark, even though it is Chad Brown.

You always have to have that in the back of your mind, but it's

not what it used to be. Let's go ahead and look at Race

3 here. Tanner, make sure we've got that

sound about ready. We got about 3-4 minutes here

until we had two posts for Race 3, an optional claimer here, a

mile and a 16th on the dirt, $127,000 on the line.

You can put your horse in for 125, Barry.

You know, got to got to make sure you qualify for those

$125,000 starter allowance. Sure.

Yeah. There you go.

Text her. Here's my name.

Hope that helps. Damn it.

Come on. Come on, buddy.

Come on buddy. Who got race three there and why

you got the four horse? Yeah, I do have the. 4 horse

missed call right? It is yes. 12:50 What's she at

right now? I actually.

That's that's really the key here is that. 12:50 But I

thought this horse ran good off the layoff, you know, in the

slop at Keeneland for Kenny Mcpeak.

And this is one of your key plays of the day, by the way.

Absolutely. Because of the fact that we're

getting that 12:50, we're actually getting 11 to one right

now stands a better than average chance in a race.

That to me seems a little bit wide open.

You got 2/5 to two shots in the 9, Lenani and Star Actress.

So I think this might be a little bit more wide open than

what the public is kind of saying right now all.

Right. So Barry, I have the in race

three, I have the five on top. What are we looking at on

numbers there? Six to one for Brad Cox on the

morning. Line right now.

Boy, I'll take that. That's.

What I mean she's. She's a daughter of Into

Mischief. Javier Castellano keeps them out

here this one one last time. Yes, in the slop going 7, but

two sprints to a route for Brad Cox at incredible angle.

Sprints around in general, 34%. So this is 1 I expect to stretch

out with no issue. Barry yeah, it probably will,

but you're getting a fair price on a horse that, you know, just

broke the main I I think that's a that's a good price,

especially if you're going to take a shot here.

You're not getting cheated. This one has been working at

Payson Park, makes the trip to Kentucky for the first time,

racing both of her previous runs at Gulfstream Park.

But of course, that surface Barry tends to translate well up

here to Churchill, certainly this time of year as well.

Others in this group that I'm interested in.

I think the seven horse behind the five is interesting.

In Betty's Pearl, Mario Gutierrez gets them out for

Brian Lynch. We saw her in the Gulfstream

Park Oaks last time. Barry, I think just gets back

into better. Into better, Yeah, it gets Lasix

back. I really do think that's a huge

thing for. Her it is, you know, you really

have to pay attention to that nowadays because horses are

coming on and off Lasix and you can see their performances in

plain sight, how they run with Lasix and without some it just

doesn't affect others It it's a huge effect.

So it's definitely something to pay attention to.

So top 2 for me, 57 Barry's going four and two quickly

measure breaking from the two off the layoff here from our

Cassie. Measure.

I'd like that horse in this spot because of the fact I think if

this pace melts down, this horse is going to pick up pieces

getting I read and Lasik's. A little makeover package should

do well in this spot. Like I said, I think this is a

lot more wide open than the odds suggest.

All right, Tanner, are we about ready for the call here?

Are they moving up and in? They are walking over right now.

Just walking over right now. OK, so we will give them just a

second a couple of minutes there.

So again, race 3 here, I'm 57 and 10.

Joyful justice on top for me 8 to 1.

If we're getting 8 to 1 here, that would be a win place kind

of bet for me. Then Barry 1010 kind of thing,

$20 bet on this race would be nice sort of number.

I do think this is a pretty wide open race.

Did the 9 it up in favoritism here?

Co favorite OK alongside the the 10 horse.

Oh interesting. Star actress OK, I have star

actress too. They're both.

Five third in my handicapping, obviously she exits the Ashland,

gets Lasix back herself coming out of a grade.

Excuse me. I made a win at Gulfstream Park

going a mile and a 16th makes a lot of sense in here as well.

So again, 5710 for me, 429 for Barry in the next race.

Here's Travis Stone with the call of Race 3 here on Kentucky

Oaks Day. Waiting for joyful justice,

maximum offer and feisty redhead.

They're near the gate and they're off and from mid pack

Maximum offer and joyful Justice.

Joyful justice quickly races out to grab the lead.

Maximum offer backs off into sex as Chrissy Star settles in

toward the inside 3rd as they charge into that first turn

tight pack out there. Joyful justice with a short lead

and that put Chrissy start in quite tight.

Had to study briefly the shuffle back inside.

Now in the pocket is that one. In the meantime, Maximum offer

moves up too wide to put some pressure on and Leinani comes on

three wide. That one one is under a hold as

well. Chrissy's star settles in toward

the rail 4th miss called Mid Pack running along in 5th and

then it's Star Actress. Star Actress on the far Outside

is 6th and only four lengths off the lead.

Down the backstretch run, Betty's Pearl settles in behind

horses 7 lengths off with 4 1/2 furlongs to go.

And then it's measure measures at about the two or three paths

and eight lengths off the lead as they had for the far.

Turn the back to our feisty redhead and your desire.

It's a tight pack and that's why the quarter was 25 seconds flat.

So they hit the far turn and Javier Castellano is wanting

more from Joyful Justice with three furlongs to go.

Maximum offer is right alongside.

Second and just to their outside is lane.

Ani Tyler Gafflione gives that 1A nudge.

Still 2 lengths behind though as they come for the top of the

stretch. Joyful Justice heads for home,

still in front. Top of the lane is set down for

the drive down. Maximum offers cut loose

outside. Now maximum offers in front of

the 8th pole. Joyful Justice fights back

toward the inside. These two streaking past a 16th

pole together and it's maximum offer getting the upper hand and

in deep stretch Bettys Pearl too late.

Maximum Offer Want it tight for a second?

Bettys Pearl or joyful justice Lay Nani, What's forth?

5710 for me, it goes 675 or 6571 of those two.

Nice call there from Travis Stone.

Always know exactly what's going on in the races.

We were talking about that the other day Barry, about you asked

me what do you think of race callers and it was a very

generic open-ended question. It's the kind of thing that you

only ask me. No one else in my life asked me

those kinds of questions like very high level philosophical

things. And this, you know, Travis

Stone, all I said was I don't have to see the race.

I know exactly what's going on, what Travis Stone calls it.

And he's he's number one of that for me.

So there you go it. Was 657. 657, yes Sir.

OK, so my $5, my five win place bet there would would hit

hopefully returns something positive there. $7.00 right?

7 on on $2.00. Yeah, it'd probably be about.

That I hope so. Nice size field.

So yes, I would hope so for sure favors out race 12 on the card

today. Barry will do this kind of

quickly is the precursor the the the Edgewood the three-year old

Philly turf race here, Barry. We're going a mile in a 16th

$600,000 on the line. And and in this race is a pretty

a wide open field. But you know coming in your

favorite is going to be what imagination the lady probably by

the time we get to to post time. What do you think?

Yeah, that sounds about right. Bunch of horses coming in from a

lot of different spots than Donna.

The winner of the Florida Oaks, the aforementioned at Tampa

comes into this one. Jose Ortiz picks up the mount

there. Lion Lake out of the

Appalachian. We also get Storms Wake, the

winner of that one last. A first winner in the

Appalachian at Keeneland last time Lion Lake winner of the

Here Comes the Bride. We talked with Brian Nadeau

earlier in the week about her imagination.

The lady, though, was in that race as well.

The Appalachian, a great predictor of success in this one

as well. Where did you land in Race 12

today? Yeah, I think of the of the prep

races, I guess for this one, the Appalachian was was the best one

out of them all. Even though it was a strange

race with storms wake kind of picking up the pieces.

I like just aloof quite a bit in this spot.

I I thought they ran a really good race despite not getting

the best of trips in that Appalachian sets them up very

well for this race. Getting Pratt again, I think

this horse is the good. I hope we get 8 to 1, but I

don't think that's capable. I think we'll get more, 5 to 1,

four to 1:00-ish. 593 for Barry in race 12 I'll GO-39 and 8IN

race 12 Imagination. The lady on top for me, second

in the Appalachian did most of her running very late in that

race. I think the added distance here,

Barry, will be a distance a difference for her.

I think the the half of Furlong will be helpful.

I agree with you on just aloof. I think she's absolutely part of

this. But I'll go 39 to Dandonna, who

did win the Florida Oaks. We're seeing the horses come out

of Tampa so well, Barry, why not off the turf course too?

And then Lion Lake was the other runner up in that Appalachian

part of that three horse photo finish that we got in that one.

Johnny Velasquez keeps them out here.

I'll go ahead and use the Here Comes the Bride winner in my

late sequence today as well. 437-9680, our UPS jobs tax line.

We'll take a break here. Tanner, come back, we'll do a

full horse by horse walk through the field for the Kentucky Oaks.

We do it next here on the Horse racing Happy hour on ESPN

680-1057. All right, hanging out with

Tanner, Bruna, Meso, Barry and Louie Horse Racing happy hour,

your duo hanging out with you today, back at 11:00 tomorrow.

Got 3 hours for you head up Kentucky Derby 152 get you all

the previews. Couple of special guests

tomorrow as well. 437-9680 UPS job sex line.

Looking forward to all of that coverage.

Course Barry Race 13 today, the 840 start time we are a mere 7

hours away from. The Ted Time Homes.

You and I last night the the the speaking to one another had

slowed down significantly around 8:30.

It really had I just the conversation slowed down.

It got giggly at the end there. Some, you know, some, some

Family Guy just closed the evening, That sort of thing.

We wandered into a weird season of Family Guy last night.

Too. And that was.

A couple bizarre episodes for sure and yeah anyways, 437968

EPS jobs Tech Slide Explorer will break from the rail here.

Barry, we have not seen this horse since the 1st of March.

Literally 60 days off for this one.

Coming into here just a little bit over, by the way, which of

course is a spectacular angle for Bob Baffert, because every

angle's spectacular for Bob Baffert.

Explorer. What happens if she wins this

race? How does it happen?

I should say. How she?

Just gets a lead and goes away. Yeah, I, I think that's probably

her best shot or really forwardly placed and and

everybody kind of thins out a little.

You and I spent a lot of time covering the Southern California

route. When she beat Lawali in the

Santa Anez the way she did, I was hoping they would be able to

recreate that pattern with her. And they kind of did in the

honeybee, right where she kind of sat off of it.

And then she made her move on the second turn.

Now, obviously the Santa Anez is A1 turn race, but she got it

together in the honeybee. I'm just worried about two

months off coming into this kind of race man.

Not only that, but a mile, an eighth might be out of her

scope. OK, that's it's, it's certainly

possible. Obviously the Bafford horses

train and run very, very fast, so you know this horse is going

to have some giddy up out of the gate, but I don't know,

something's telling me this horse doesn't really want to go

that far. 7 furlong work just back on April 17th at Santa

Anita. You could tell Bob Baffert

trying to build a little stamina in A to her zany will break from

the two hero horse I like quite a bit.

Three wins and three starts before a second place finish in

the Ashland. I'm going to largely draw a line

through that for my personal handicapping because of the

short stretch Berry. But to be fair, that won the

fast race and she didn't close into it.

Nope and that's why I very cold on her here.

I'm I'm not really sure what kind of horses she beat.

As we saw in the last race, Star actress couldn't get it done and

that was in a non stakes event. Non stakes event so.

I mean Zany is definitely a nice horse, but I think needs to to

prove it here and too short of a price. 4 to one on the line is

really short for a horse that that really hasn't shown all

that much other than the connection.

Explorer and Zany are both 5 to 1.

Which horse would you bet? Explorer.

OK for sure. Search party is now 43 to 1.

Christian Torres for Mark Cassie, 2nd place finisher

behind counting stars in the fantasy. 4th place finisher in

the honey bee. She won that.

Martha Washington where we're drawing a line through it. 4

counting stars. Search party here.

Is she valued at 43 to one or is that not even a touch?

No, I I think this horse in in certain situations could step up

and get in the picture here at that number.

Honestly, they don't. Zany and search party don't look

that much different other than the fact that search party had a

few more starts in the maiden company, but after that they

kind of look the same. Interesting.

So I I wouldn't totally discount search party getting in the

number. My top pick in the Oaks is

counting stars, the four horses up to 12:50 on the morning line.

If the Martha Washington weren't on her resume, I think this

horse would be vying for favorite, not the favorite, the

second or third favorite. I'm happy with that.

Give me the daughter of honor AP in here.

Yeah, she looks really good. And, and if you're able to get

that under the radar price, have at it because this this horse

has good numbers as anybody has the running style, has

everything going for them. Great news, Barry, your top pick

in this race, meaning will break from the five for Juan Hernandez

and trainer Michael McCarthy. You'll remember him from the

journalism team last year is up to 9 to 1 in the current pools

in the Kentucky Oaks. You wink at me because you know,

that's some nice value there. Yeah, I want people to keep

sleeping on meaning. You like this horse?

Yeah, I think they drew excellent in this spot, and the

farther the better. And they're really going to get

a nice trip here. Juan Hernandez is on top of his

game. Michael McCarthy has his horse

ready. You see those workouts?

I mean, it's just steady. Second off the layoff here for

her 19% angle for the aforementioned Michael McCarthy.

She was the winner of the Lost Virgin is ahead of Explorer and

the winner of that Sanity to Oaks ahead of Brooklyn Blonde,

who has since moved up to 31 to one in this field.

Counting stars. My top pick, meaning your top

pick four and five. My Miss MO scratches out.

Does that eliminate some of the speed from this race?

Or did we just see her on the lead in the Gulf St.

Park hopes 'cause it was a slow race.

A little of both. OK, I I think she was going to

eject some pace into this race. Not the the blazing fast pace,

but it's going to be fast enough.

Dazzling Dame has a lot of that kind of speed.

The Busanda winner dazzling a Dame is the 7:44 to 1:00 right

now. Luis Saez picks up the mount

from Heavy on Toledo, who rode this horse in both the Virginia

Oaks and the Busanda, but did ride this one in the Pocahontas

at Churchill Downs previously. Chase hit the board here.

Tough spot. Yeah, I think it's a tough spot

for her. A little bit over her head

unless she so happens to get some sort of loan, but I don't,

I don't think that's going to happen.

Bottle a Rouge out of this race. How would you have felt about

her being in this race? I liked.

Her a lot. I think she was flying under the

radar. That Virginia Oaks was a very,

very good race out of her. She did what she needed to do

and I think that taught that horse how to win.

I'm interested to see where she ends up.

Always a Runner I think has become not just the buzz horse,

but the favorite for the Kentucky Oaks, Jose Ortiz riding

for Chad Brown. Dylan Davis is not aboard, which

is a little surprising, but here we are.

Daughter of gun runner, only her third start.

She's won both of the other ones.

Essentially Chad trying the same thing in both the Oaks and the

Derby. Between Always a Runner today

and Emerging Market tomorrow, What do you make of Always a

Runner here? Obviously the public really

likes her. I think he has a better chance

of pulling that off in this race rather than the Derby because

that gazelle was was pretty tough.

I I mean she didn't get a great trip, was out wide, just blew by

those horses, looked far superior and could get a similar

trip here. Texter, it is pretty ironic that

a horse named Counting Stars didn't run well in the Martha

Washington One Republic Counting Stars.

See what I did there? That's pretty good.

Do we like one Republic? Definitely not OK.

Tanner Pop propped up. Tanner, I think I heard you.

Are you? You can't be.

You're not a one. No guy, right?

Come on. There's no chance.

No. That band.

Yeah. No, That band.

No. That band.

No. You can't do that for the band.

Can't wear a band. You know that one, right?

Yeah. You can't do that.

For the band, For the band, For the band.

For the band, For the band. Scott Pilgrim, man.

Are you surprised? That did you?

Watch that movie. No.

My God man, we got to hang out more bro.

Well, I'm not against that. OK.

You declared yourself. You got a member of our family

the other day. And #7 but you gotta move this.

I think tomorrow, by the way, after we get done with all this

stuff hanging, okay, that's a better idea.

But just know. But I think at the end of the

day tomorrow, we need to take a family picture where you just

are one of our sons. Absolutely.

My wife and I sitting on a on a couch and then our four children

behind us and you're just one of the.

Children top one. And you're next to Charlie and

it's like you guys are almost the same height now, you know?

Like, there we go, We're doing that tomorrow.

That's what we're doing #7 Barry Spears, by the way, to the

Preakness. I'm going to make you wear a

Rabo 7. I'm jersey.

I am down actually. Funny enough, pick the team.

I have a Bob Bafford 7 jersey. Let's go from the Haskell.

Let's go, let's go. Guy that hates me on Twitter

sent it to me too. Absolutely hate.

Usually hate on Twitter means they enjoy your account.

They just need something to hate, right, right, right.

He just. Just hate follow Yeah man.

I think he was trying to get me to block him so he could

complain. Texter points out Barry Louis

hasn't watched The Glorious Basterds either.

Yeah, that's a that's shameful. That's.

And you know what's funny is I like Tarantino like I do.

I just haven't seen that movie. How?

Did you, how did that happen? I don't know.

That one's a slip through the crack.

That's unacceptable. Prob Queen will break from the

Ted in this one today. I believe you have her on.

No, you have her second in your handicap.

Excuse me. So yes, in your trifecta, I do

as well. I'll go 42 and 10 in the Oaks

today. You are 510 and 9, so you do

have always a runner. The Gulfstream Park Oaks winner,

though, makes second spot for you.

Yeah, a lot of upside to this horse, especially after that run

in the Gulfstream, Parks Oaks. I was there that day.

She dominated. There was no way she was getting

beat in that race. If she runs anywhere near that,

I think she's going to win this one and and everybody's got

their hands full. Prom queen from the 10, Javier

Castellano, local guy Brad Cox trains.

They've been together on this horse since the maiden break

back in February at Gulfstream Park.

Stepped straight into that Gulfstream Park Oaks and ran

ahead and won that one easily. Percy's bar is in here for Ben

Colebrook and Luan Machado. You heard that as Dan Izel's

pick for this one. What do you make of that, Barry?

I think Percy's bar would probably be well served going

towards the lead, if not trying to be on the lead, and I think

that's going to eject some pace into this race to set up for

others. But honestly, if you take out

the juvenile Philly where there was the Lone Speed and Super

Corridora, all of our races have been pretty good.

You know, ran good against Tommy Joe, who at that time wasn't

trying to get beat and then Super Corridor just kind of ran

away with it. So it it's a little hard to

gauge because they sort of run in difficult races or the same

ones. But again, they beat Star

Actress last time who didn't run a lick in that last race.

Percy's Bar already the second highest earning runner ever for

trainer Ben Colebrook. Can you name his number one?

This is off the. You'll love this horse.

I It feels like a horse. You really limousine liberal.

A nice whole horse, actually. Yeah, Bella ballerina scratches

out here would have given good. Roy H Days.

That's right, man. Oh, yeah, for sure.

But Bella Ballerina would have given Godolphin a chance to win

yet another Oaks. But she is scratched out.

Not an insignificant scratch in my mind, Barry.

No, because she could. She could have won this.

Race for sure. She definitely could have.

Has the versatility, has a lot of things going for her, but too

bad we'll get her next time. Texter follows up so many things

about all of the things that I need to watch on movies.

I'm I'm aware I I'm very aware that I I have a culture gap in

watching movies. It's come on.

I'm with you brother. Pashmina, who I really liked on

the track but don't think has much of a chance today, has been

bent down to 20 to one for Rob actress and Ramon Vasquez.

Why do you think people are betting her?

Speed. OK, speed, I think it's.

Fair, you know there. There's did the work of the

gazelle did. Right.

I I think she she injects pace into this, but nothing much more

than that. Brooklyn Broad out of the

Michael McCarthy borrowed our guy Kazushi Kamura in to ride

this one at 31 to 1. Currently on the board not will

not be in my tickets. No, I I'm I'm hoping that this

horse is a rabbit for my meaning.

That they just decide to go. And yeah, they they want to,

they want to force the issue with this horse to hopefully and

they do that and it sets it up for the other McCarthy.

We'll get to we'll get to lovely Gray in just a second Resisto

break from the 17 local guy, Tommy Drury.

I'm thrilled that he's got a horse in the Oaks.

And I want to talk about this one because I I, these are the

kinds of guys that I that I get to talk to on the racing

spotlight here at 680 that just make our sport go.

They just do. Tommy's one of those guys.

I got such one of the grand compliments of my career,

frankly, after that episode came out, one of the owners who works

with Tommy said, Man, it sounded like I was just talking to Tommy

in my car when you guys were talking.

That's cool. Good for us.

That's that's nailing the the interview there comes out of the

Turfway Park route. You like a horse off the

synthetic on the dirt the first time.

Yeah, You know, Resist would be a horse I would put underneath

in in tries and supers just in case something really weird

happens because that running style is conducive to it.

And especially if they're able to get clear.

You know, you got a nice veteran rider in Brian Hernandez who who

knows how to get things like that done.

Lovely. You're looking at Lee in the

Derby. That does sound right.

Lovely Gray will break from the 15.

This is David. This is Dave Portnoy's horse out

of Go Go Gray's stable and you and I have a very similar

opinion about Portnoy lately. Is is that thank God that he's

turned his own personal social media accounts into solely horse

racing for two months and that all these people are alongside

30 to 1:00 in the morning line. His horse is 8 to 1 and frankly,

I'll be out. He doesn't have any business

being 8 to 1. It's OK, but everyone should

shut up. Everyone should take shots and

races like this. If your horse is healthy,

absolutely go for it. I think he's making the right

decision. Absolutely, yeah.

You only get one shot at this and his horse is doing well.

Why not give this horse a shot, have some fun with it and and

again with him turning his account into basically a horse

racing account over the last couple months is fantastic for

our sport. There's there's a lot of eyes, a

lot of younger eyes that look at his account on a daily basis for

a whole variety of reasons, but it's definitely giving some some

good publicity to sport. I know he he complaints about

some things, but there's some things that need to be fixed.

There you go, counting stars on top for me today in the Oaks.

Meaning on top for Barry in the Oaks today as well.

Hey Tanner, how much time do we have left here?

Buddy? I want to make sure we get out

of the time OK, 45 until the music starts.

Barry gives us a couple of moments to talk about it.

If you were playing the Oaks Derby double, how many horses

would you throw in your beginning part of the double

here? Just meaning, just meaning.

OK, I'm going to try the same thing here because this is a a

$20 bet anyone could play. Take the horse you think is

going to win the Oaks, put $1.00 in the double the Oaks Derby

double. It cost you 20 bucks to get all

the horses in the Derby tomorrow.

If something crazy happens and you pick up the Oaks winner,

you're good to go. Yeah, absolutely.

And that that will always pay more than $20.

Yeah. Almost almost guaranteed because

there is no real favorite in the Oaks this year so it should

really spread out that double money.

I'm not usually a 2 day bet guy. Oaks Derby doesn't bother me

though. No, that's.

That one's that was a pretty straightforward.

I only got to beat 1, you know, I only got to be good twice,

essentially, You know, really only got to be good once, right?

Once. Yeah, that's right.

What's odd after you guys, more Churchill Downs racing.

Well, yeah, soaks Dave, of course.

What else are we going to do? We'll keep it rolling here on

ESPN 680 at 1057. Back at it at 11:00 tomorrow for

Derby A day coverage. We'll be out there today, Barry.

Time to time to go. Pony up, win some bets.

Giddy up. Have a great time all of you out

there. Enjoy your Oaks parties, your

day off from school, whatever it is that you are doing today for

Barry and Tanner, my name is Louis Robot.

Thanks. Hanging out with us on the horse

racing happy hour, 3 or more hours tomorrow we'll start at

11. We hope to see you then.
