Now, live from Churchill Downs. Here's Mike.

Gandolfo Megan Divine and Louis, Robbo.

All right, welcome to the horse racing.

Happy hour. No glasses.

No glasses to clean. That is like this.

So people are just tuning in to us for the first time.

We are at podcast, making just dropped her apple pencil.

It's not going. Well my God - falling over you

lose your job. The pencil.

There's no glass was just you'll have no idea what you're in for

just letting you know. This is perfect.

Not a hot start could not ascertain.

This is not your grandfather's horse racing show.

We have fun on this one. It's not going to be in the

weeds. Talk will cut Megan off before

she goes that far, but I'm like Adolfo.

This is this is, I don't know. Meghan has started both covering

the Derby independently, probably about 10 years ago.

I'm not really sure how many it is for me.

Yeah, it's been a while. So it's great and I'm happy to

be back here, happy to be one of the 17 percent of the media that

they said was essential I guess. So we're appreciative ESPN to

get out the chance. We are a podcast.

If you want to find us on any of the podcasting platforms.

We are the horse racing happy hour.

And every single time I say that Louis usually clinks two glasses

together. So we're going to reconfigure

that about tomorrow. Yeah.

Yeah. I know.

I understand the security now, so if you think it's of glass

and I'll be good. So Luis Roberto is here.

I'm joined with and making the vine.

And we are going to have a whole lot of fun on your, that's not

been a whole lot of fun. I mean, quite honestly, it's

this is freaking surreal. We're here.

It's weird and there's less people here than I expected.

Right? I mean, it's I said earlier like

we could probably I can see like 15 people that's happening in

the stands. There's a bunch of owners down

the owner boxes, but like it's not it's there's not a lot of

people here. Yeah.

Good, you've been working backside for many years here

with NBC, and with different Outlets.

What's the backside even been? Like it?

Very, very quiet. I mean, usually we are used to

kind of fighting the crowds and I like the hustle and bustle of

the backside with the all the tents that they have set up and

the sponsors and the new shows. And, you know, at some point it

gets a little dangerous because you have a lot of non horse

people around a lot of really expensive horses.

So, you know, that's just part of it.

I think for the Horseman it's been a very relaxed Derby in

that way, which they probably like quite a bit but at the same

time you To do miss everybody taking photos and doing a

gnawing at your horses and try to, you know, how many baths

shots are out there. Well, this year, not as many as

usual. So I think a lot of people may

be missing those on social media.

I think the only saving grace here Mike.

Is that the card again as always is tremendous both days, right?

And so we'll have a bunch of Grace to talk about today.

But also, of course, that derby car tomorrow.

And so Thank goodness, horse racing.

Never really quit this year and we had something to talk about,

you know, we did go on a Hiatus with the podcast for a couple

weeks. But frankly, we didn't go off

for that long. We were able to come back and we

got a jockey damn a jockey has fallen off his horse as the

horses have come out to raise five live radio.

This is crazy fall off 27. Yeah.

He has scheana one. Yeah, but he was on his back.

That is the there you go. So there's the 7 horse.

Oh, no, Declan Cannon was was was put on the grounds a good

week. By the way, say Horses named

Louis where we it's mixed match. The harm the harm.

Oh, yes. I want to talk about this horse

yesterday. Actually, I think it's Mage Tom.

I think it's that simple are so. Here's what you need to know.

That's a Pioneer, the no baby for anybody.

That's never listen to us before, Louis knows like 17

languages. So he's a liquid in this

language Linguistics. Wow, you can save you can't be

drinking yet Winn-Dixie. You got a drink in front of you

linguine expert. We rely on Him for a lot of the

times odds, and we don't have them.

But today will not be that case and then also, for pronunciation

of names. So that Mike and I don't butcher

them. So, yeah, so we get, we're

getting ready. The horses are on the track for

race 5. Let's just go through this real

quick and then we'll kind of go back to what we were talking

about as they as they load up and all that kind of fun stuff.

So they're that race is scheduled to go off at 110.

This is a six Furlong Maiden special weight race. 97,000.

I personally love the person here at Churchill Downs.

Ee, I'm not mad about, I tell you what ever since they put in

the office. The jamling thing over up up

local. Yep.

It's been huge. Right.

Great. Yeah.

So this is a, this is one of those main reasons.

So we'll let Megan's Maiden. Let's know the hey, there you

go. Yeah.

I mean, this is a tough one. Just like the race earlier.

We put out a little video on Twitter if you guys followed

along there because there's not a lot of past performance has to

go up up. So, you know, these horses, a

lot of them have never started before.

You don't know what you're going to get.

So I try to do some visual handicapping as well and that

sometimes takes me in different directions and maybe where I

want to go, I actually Lee originally looked toward to the

832 as my top selection, the eighth being 521 at the moment,

the three I added on last-second.

That's Amici for Sheree de vaux, who I just thought looked really

impressive in The Paddock. She was really well.

Muscled. Her coat was nice and shiny.

She seemed to be acting very mature, and for a two-year-old

Philly, you know, that's something that you want to

watch. You want to watch them in the

paddock. You want to watch them warm up,

make sure that they are not too antsy that they're not looking

around too much and you hope for a smooth gait load as well.

Well, I've been just in Like I've been watching you watch the

horses, come on the track and you're watching these horses.

Come on the track, and you're like every single horse.

I think that you've picked is coming the money.

Hmm, just so really explain to me what you're looking at.

When they come on the track. It depends on what type of erase

it is. As far as the age of the horse

goes and the surface. Are we on the grass or we on the

dirt? Are we going long?

We're going short so there's different factors that play into

it, but overall, I think you just look for good muscling, you

want to make sure horse isn't coming off of layoffs and

carrying a little bit more extra.

Tweet this week ago. Shot it being weird.

No, it's not really a little bit more.

But this weekend it was the chair be I don't think anybody's

going to really send a horse out on these days.

You know it you aim for these days.

You want to be here these days so you don't really see as much

of that. However, you also want to look

for temperament, you know, are these horses tossing?

Their head? Are they anxiously kind of

biting at the You're shying away from it.

And you also want to watch how the jockeys warm them up.

If they take them away from the pony, they give an aggressive

warm up. Is that horse taking it well, or

are they running off through the Bridle and the writer has a hard

time stopping them. I like to see a nice warm up

from a horse, to take them away from the pony, but they look

like they're in control and, and just moving forward very well.

So, it's something that you there's a lot of things you can

look for and will point it out as we go throughout the show.

I like a second time, start on this race, the 11, which is one

or a peak and out of the Eddy, connealy Barn in So I'm not

trying a second time starter here.

The 11 who has been passed down from 12 to 1, to 5 to 1.

So, apparently there's enough in the betting public that agrees

with me, that honorific is going to be part of the part of the

field that hits the board here. It raised five years papers, Hit

the Floor. Luckily, I have had together and

I have a link that is still falling on me, but it's fine.

Yeah. Well, we'll fix her think.

I'm ready. It doesn't get better.

You know, I set up like it. Instead of, like four hours ago,

but still, yeah, at the time. And I got here, just fault.

Thanks, Maggie. All right, so real quick again,

Megan's on the 832. Is that what I heard?

Yeah. Those are my two.

I mean, I will say aye, this is a tough one.

If you're playing along, you know, there's lots of different

ways that you can play this race.

You can play it straight up and just, you know, pick a win bed

in here across the board and exact a trifecta, whatever it

is, you want to do, but you can also play a pick for 50 Cent

pick for which starts right here, and I think it's a good

race to play along with that. So you The winners in the next

four races. And in this race, I would call

it a spread race. So I actually think you can go a

little bit deeper, go 832, 11 13, and give yourself some

coverage in this first leg of the sequence as we call it.

And then, as you go into the other races, races 67 and eight,

you try to shorten it up and just have a good solid pick that

you have a lot of confidence in and hopefully you get a big

price here in this type of race, which, I mean, the favorites for

21. That's a very lukewarm type.

There's money, big money here. This is, you know, I don't want

people. To be like, oh, she just gave

out five horses, you know, in the field, but that's what,

that's why you play those multi-race tickets like that

because you can, you can do so for 50 cents for that.

Minimum base, wager, and pick the whole field.

If you wanted to, you know, in this type of race and then

somewhere else, where you have a little bit more confidence, you

can you can shorten it up. The 13 is Runaway rocket, who's

in the race as an also eligible because peace broker the 12

horse is scratched Louise. Horse honorific on a Rafiq.

Maybe it's was Morning Line 12:48, Louis this war All the

way down to 92 to shows two popular as I think that's, that

is no reason. All right.

So we going back to what we were talking about.

I guess before we talked about race five.

This is always a great week in a races and it's usually what

happens is, there's no coincidence.

Megan that the Derby weekend Derby Oaks weekend is six months

away from the Breeders Cup weekend, because it's kind of

the I don't know like a the Breeders Cup came out of this

weekend. Yeah, I mean that's why the

Breeders Cup is now? How does that change things?

Knowing that this weekend is now instead of six months ahead of

that. It's we're two months ahead.

Yeah, I mean it puts even more emphasis on these races because

a lot of times we'll see horses your race on Oaks and Derby day,

maybe take some time off, they, you know, take off the beginning

of the summer. After a big campaign leading up

to these races and then they get some time off and they come back

and they start their campaign again, you know, leading up to

the Breeders Cup, but in this case, If you don't really have

the time to do that. So we can see these horses maybe

race once before the Breeders Cup, but some of them might not

race at all. They might take and immediately

go into. Yeah, that next race.

Depends on what it is, you know, there's some spots at Keeneland

and whatever else, but you know, this, this puts even more

emphasis on the races here today and watching them to and

listening to them and will of course, give you any insight

that we see, but the replays that you're going to the real

races and the replays from today are what you're going to want to

watch handicapping. The Breeders Cup.

And and Louis, like you said, it's this field.

This whole car race. How many stakes races do we have

actually haven't counted. Usually she's like 13.

Yeah, I think a certain. Yeah, so it's not my head.

And typically what happens is what Megan said, these Horses

Don't Run, they run in September and they don't run again until

the Breeders Cup, right? And the only time you might see

a horse run again, I think as if you're looking for, you know, if

you're looking for something else if you're like, hey, if you

didn't fire this weekend, right? You're like, hey, we need to

Leverage The Belmont to that are for sure.

Yeah. Well you get a jim-dandy this

weekend. You got some no.

No, I mean After this. Oh, yeah.

Yeah. Someone's running down.

It's alright. Yeah, on Kaitlin's.

Yeah, the the Belmont Keeneland car.

There's definitely other big reasons.

Yeah, but let's face it. I mean, we haven't seen a card

like this all summer. So they're in the gate, they are

breaking on Race five and we'll kind of Megan's now glued to the

screen. She wants to.

She wants to make some money over here doing race calls, or

what was that? We can't erase ball.

Probably have cream, just do the race calls, but no, I think the

unique thing here, of course is that the Preakness is a month.

Yeah. And so a lot of these horses

running this weekend weather in the Oaks or in the derby will

probably be at Pimlico next month, right?

There's going to be a massive Stakes card on that.

Pimlico are on the excuse me. On the Preakness Saturday which

Mike and I are desperately trying to make sure we get it

for ya. It still looks good.

That looks incredible. And so wow.

So, yes, it's gonna be a fleshly and Keeneland because of that do

I mean Pimlico basically turned a two-day thing into a one-day

thing. That's right.

Yeah, they're gonna have less stakes races that I believe.

It's an all Stakes car. Is that what it is?

Nor 11. Wow.

One day. Unbelievable.

What? Yeah, and like an Arabian sticks

or is at the end of the day, which is a credible, right?

We got horses are coming down the stretch here right now.

Yeah, the one horses. That's what my 1188, my

beautiful. Great date.

It was your top pick. My 11 is 22 and going away.

Try to, Yeah, by about what three lengths right now.

Come on. Let me get up with her.

Come on. There it is.

We got the other thing that's kind of fun to be here.

Church is not only the purses for these races, but we got

really good like solid, big fields, right?

Good first race for people to understand the show.

Just that what Megan says fade. The hey, that's what, that's

what I just did and I want money introduced ourselves.

Really. I mean, I said that Louis has

17. No 17 languages.

I also took the is like 17 children to, they're not here

today, though. So you won't hear that was a

good Catholic. The dadaist of dads is what I

call you, but I my day job is that I am an expert handicapper.

If you will, if I'm allowed to call myself that an on-air

analyst for memories. Drink.

That's a humble. Very humble.

Brag. All this is the thing we do, you

got a drink with humble brag, so hopefully, you guys are drinking

as well at home. As long as you're not, like,

driving around on know why you would be.

It's okay. You can sit at home on the couch

and watch it. Anyway, Zaman honor analyst for

TV G, which is basically like the ESPN of horse racing is what

I try to. To say so I hope I hope that I

do well for you guys because if not, I'm not doing a very good

job at my job. There you go.

No, I honestly and I think Megan's the best one of the best

handicappers in the world. I really do what I think.

You're one of us. A reason.

Why do we drink with my compliments?

No, listen, you already told us that you are a good one.

He needed a drink for my humble brag.

Yeah, so there are there are some Mike you want to tell them

about some of our Rules humblebrag is one.

Mmm. The other one is when we mention

King carama and no sad, if you all, listen to the podcast.

Can you hear momma was a favorite of Louise and mine and

became a horse that I like to. Yeah, we had a really kind of a

long time and then I finally jump on the bike - a scratch.

Mm. I gave out king Guillermo before

the Tampa Bay Derby and he wanted 12:45.

And I just what's interesting is everyone's been crushing the

layoffs. He won the Tampa Bay Derby on a

form of Playoff and so I, you know, I you know, I think Juan

Carlos Davila trainer, I think he really felt like you had

something there and so it is, it's it's on the top of the list

of horse disappointments in my life.

I mean, really is, I really, I just want to see him run at a

great spot to Pratap. Yeah, but this one was personal

talking about you. I didn't even get to put it out

there but part of my job and addition to TV G.

I'm humble bragging. I work for NBC Sports as we

already mentioned. And on the show and I am back

there was no, you mentioned that I was back working hard.

So I do a lot of the producing for the behind-the-scenes stuff

that you see and we do that the week before, a lot of it.

So anyways, part of my job is to get still shots of these

sources. And we were back there with King

Guillermo. I took a little video on my

phone and I typed out the Tweet, guys, it finally happened.

I finally met the king and then it didn't send because there's

no Wi-Fi anywhere and then the worst got scratched and now it

won't be the same. It won't be the same, you know,

but if it doesn't meet the king, If he runs a Baltimore at my

second favorite track Pimlico. Yeah, I'll have to be there.

I'll tell you what, it's really interesting to me because the

Preakness field. Usually, there's a lot of horses

who gear for the Derby two weeks later.

They don't want to run right now.

You're going to have our collaborative fashion with

Justin, right? That it's going to be coming in

Swiss guy died in a Triple Crown could be on the line, right?

Exactly. I mean, it could be just a

radical race and it's the see how this 2020 horse racing

years, unfolded with Belmont going first and shortening, the

distance. A lot of people want to say,

hey. Because law wins is Triple

Crown. There should be an Asterix

Louis. I know you're really passionate

that, that's not the case. Ridiculous.

Of course. Yeah, I mean if for horses, stay

on top as long as he stayed on top in the conversation, for

being the Gateway ahead of ourselves with that

conversation, if we are, but the fact that he won the Traverse,

the way he did it a mile and a quarter already speaks to us.

Yeah, and that's the thing. And we'll of course, touch on

that one, bee handicap the Derby, but like sure, you don't

see, you horses, do not come into the Kentucky Derby, having

already run a mile and a quarter.

That's right. Then.

Milan quarter here at Churchill Downs, frankly into the Kentucky

Oaks like Sky never has right now.

Exactly. So it's, this is such.

So I mean, maybe there should be an asterisk in that.

He's potentially done more than some horses have.

I'm going to make a ridiculous statement about this law

tomorrow. Okay, everyone needs a tune in

because I'm going to make a ridiculous amount as lat.

All right. Teasing content over here.

I mean beat be there. Tomorrow.

It's I got the only thing I'll say about his laws that he's

such a heavy favorite and he seems to be so unbeatable that

at that makes me nervous. That is Derby poison for sure.

I've been here for all those. Other will have big long shot

where you and I both here for Rachel Alexandra. 129 getting

beat. For one to ten.

I was not here. I don't remember five horse

field. She just got run down.

I was here you were here right now.

I thought so. Yeah.

Yeah, so it happens. Here.

It does have absolute a. And if you have a Horse Ride, A

slogan of Louisville, it's happening here.

All right, we gotta we got the official travel calm.

They did win that race. If you, if you bet cream.

How do you bet that race? How did you get it?

I actually had the winner in the exact, so I did five dollars

across the board. On the 8th and then I end

exactly with 82 and 10 3 so that their exact top eight thirty

nine eighty and then the the two dollar bet on the lens out here.

Just we just free money. We just paid for you being here,

man. I know I love it.

You made more money than we have three Supreme.

You're about as degenerate gamblers.

They come as a trio. Absolutely.

All right. All right, we like this works

perfectly for the show. By the way, the boy we have a

bunch of. I hope a bunch of our Closer

still sitting around the country and I heart and people can text

into the show. I have the text Line open for

379, 680 locally 5024, 379 680, that is the UPS jobs, text line.

If you want to text into the show and love to hear from you.

I will interact with. You will read them on are cream.

We call cream. Has been telling it's my

personal number spoilt. I don't want the pics that come

with that. I think cream.

How long have you been clean for years now?

Working on my first Interning at the station summer of 2017.

So three years. Yeah, that's how long ago it was

because Tom crean was the coach at Jack and I have that in

common that we both have degrees from IU.

And so you were interned Korean. We don't, you have a degree from

every Big Ten school settle down and so he has many times as he

knows. That's why we call.

That's why we call. That's why we call Jack cream.

Just for those around the country that are like, what the

hell, what is cream, so you went to college.

Bone horses. That's pretty much it.

Yeah, good sir. Did a French degree you settle

down? That's what you do.

Someone else pay for my college. Yeah.

Wow for you see a CT ACT scores baby.

Let's go. All right, so it was pretty

crazy kind of coming in here to like so you'll want to kind of

set the scene for what it was like to kind of get, I think

that's an important thing for people to know.

So Mike and I made the trip from ESPN.

Louisville Studios down here down.

Third switch is real close to U of L, it is.

Yeah. Right next to you about our

north side of That cat will not say that.

Megan is why they can end by both graduates.

Okay. No, and what do you have?

Oh, but you're not going to say go cards.

You mad at them know. I've always been a Kentucky fan

and Mike has it has different. Never understood that.

Yeah, that's a weird thing here. But anyways, the um, yeah, that

does not exist in other places, but the, you know, look at you

looking at Louis, we passed military police at third and

Central. And then we passed a military

police on the grounds on the back side, and then we had to

go. Go through a National Guard.

Gun post to get in here where they searched the car.

Yep. There were dogs waiting for us

at the entrance at the media entrance.

Yep. To sniff things out.

And then of course we had we put all our bags through the old

airport X-ray machines and all the writings, which is typical

by the way, that part the very last thing but the bomb sniffing

dogs in the National Guard post and the military police, not

very usual and so it is very difficult actually usually have

dogs out here, but it's so costly not as prevalent.

I think it's just more of a like I'm we're gonna walk around just

in case kind of thing and you know, it's obvious.

We fully support it. Here's my whole take on

everything. Don't we know you talk about you

and then I'll talk. Okay, that's that's fair.

I fully support. Everyone's right to peacefully.

Protest. Didn't know if, you know, I know

there's some people who like well, why are they even doing

the Oaks and Derby at all with all this stuff going on?

And you know what the world is, a heavy heavy place right now,

and you got to have some fun. And I will say that right now,

this Weekend is typically something that really unifies

this community. Hmm.

Yeah, and even though it's not the typical lead up with, you

know, I'm heavily involved with the Derby Festival and it's not

the Thunder Over Louisville in the parade and all that other

stuff. We're not, we don't have all the

stuff. We normally do.

It doesn't change. The fact that this horse race

typically is at the center of what unifies US inner city and

everyone benefits from it. Everyone chemical of the whole

year. Oh, absolutely.

I mean, I we're losing four hundred million dollars.

Wow, of economic impact without us having a typical Derby

weekend. Well, and, you know, it's also

the argument can be made to, I mean, you have to remember it

horse racing is more than just the Kentucky Derby and the

Kentucky Oaks. I mean, the people that the

characters, the cast of characters that put on the show,

the horsemen the horses, the jockeys, the owners, the, you

know, the trainers, and everybody like that.

This is their livelihood that you can't just tell.

Them. I mean that's like telling any

other business where you can't, you can't be open right now

because there's civil unrest, right?

I mean, so should everybody shut down everything that they're

doing and not make a living and not do what they do because the

world is screwed up place right now.

I mean, are there problems yet? Absolutely, but does that mean

that these people shouldn't go to work every day and do what

they love and try to feed their families.

I don't think. So.

Right. And in the social, the economic

diversity, that is affected here at the track by the people who

benefit by the track being on is pretty incredible.

And, you know, I just know that I know this, you know, I have

learned more during this season of will season might not be the

right word. I've learned more this about

this go-around of what it really is being discussed.

And what where the conversation really needs to be.

It's not about one individual incident.

It's about the systemic world that we live in and trying to

fix the systems, right? That's that's what it is.

And I'm a full believer that the This I want everyone to have

every chance they can become successful and and and you know

what? And I but I the same time.

I'm happy that we're here. We're gonna have a lot of fun.

I appreciate by the way, this week.

So horse racing is different than other sports in that

integration was a different. It was backwards.

Oh, by the way, Church of statement was fantastic.

It was I thought it was agreed. It was a good start.

And so, um, so if people don't know the early successes in the

Kentucky Derby, for example, where with black jockeys, and I

want to say that, The first 10 or so half of them were won by

by black jockeys. And so and then, you know, a

black jockeys were forced out of the sport by horrible methods.

Frankly. And so, unlike other sports,

there was much, you know, African American involvement at

the beginning and then and then it was pushed out as opposed to

something like baseball. Where were there was, there was

side-by-side involvement, and then eventually integration and

so, yeah, good, but it will, but it's also, it's not that, I

mean, you can say, pushed out and and that may be true also,

but it's also just been a shift of, you know, you have to think

about how our country has changed as far as immigration

goes. I mean that we have a lot of

jockeys of Hispanic descent more so than any other.

I'm talking more like a hundred years ago.

I know, I know, but I don't want to be to get the wrong

impression and think that that that's why there aren't a lot of

black jockeys, you know, nowadays.

It's really because a lot of people of Hispanic descent are,

you know, there are some times and some smaller and and the

weights different. I mean the weight The Jock is a

Carrie is it controls their entire lives for sure.

And you know, the weights that they were back then as compared

to the weights that they are now, it's unrealistic.

It's difficult. So you have to be of a certain

build regardless of your, of your ethnicity in order to be a

jockey and it just happens to be, you know, more common.

That we see a lot of Hispanic jockeys than black, or white or

anything else. I'm gonna, I'll retweet the

well, I got to do it to mine, really, if you want to, and it's

a really Ang statement the really long statement and we

want your coldness our first break, but I'll tweet it out.

Also, you can follow us on Twitter and interact with us on

Twitter as well at horse happy hour, Louise also monarchy and

that as well. We've already got our first text

into the show, 5024 379 680, Jerry's betting, your pics just

so you know, we will answer your questions for sure on air and

say hi to you. So get the shout out, right?

Shoutouts shoutouts. So bourbon.

The problem I have another. I will get more bourbon.

Don't doubt that. All right.

Well time for the first break. Yeah, so we're going to go to

something. We do every year, every year.

Louis just trivia. Absolutely.

What's Louis. Yeah, prep for that.

What that was on purpose. It's on the show sheet that you

were shared to that. You just didn't read.

That's correct. Yeah, but that's also part of

the show went on the show. She we don't know what the

question is who you makes. You sure she's in Mike and I

don't listen. I'm Your Cheating.

You abandoned me. I don't think the show she I

don't. I thought we were a team, Mike.

I don't know what Mark, I don't know.

Oh my God, this whole week. So we're gonna, we're gonna go

right to the question. If you know the answer, you can

text him. What's a text line again?

Louis. It is for 379, 680, locally,

5024, 379 680, or you can tweet it at horse.

Happy hour or so happy. All right, so Louis question

number 1, right? So Mike has been on this for

months about the size of the field.

We're going to have Derby. Yes, for us.

It's going to be a small 16 horse field, because finding the

fears we didn't even mention that yesterday.

There's a scratch. A scratch today.

Yeah, it may even surprise me that you didn't know - no, it's

just spinning out, probably getting here.

Well, I had the over-under at 17 and it's now 16, I said, might

is though, - all right, so we'll go to break on this screen.

We have 12 horses in this field, by the way.

Okay. Talk about that later in 1892.

To how many horses ran in the Kentucky Derby.

Don't look it up. Why?

1892? Because it is the smallest field

ever. Okay.

Was it a California size field? It is a California size shoe.

1892 Derby. How many horses, man?

All right. So that's what you need to know.

You need to text the answer in. Wow.

That was a, we decide what sort? Of course, happy hour.

Let's see. What, who was the smart with a

small Shield ever? Was 1892.

How many horses ran in the a teenager?

We're going to go to break. We'll be right back in a couple

minutes. We got paid the sponsors and I

cream for bringing this in and out.

We'll see you on the other side. This is the horse racing.

Happy hour. Welcome back to horse racing.

Happy. Our pre-race coverage of the

Kentucky Oaks right here on ESPN Louisville.

Now, here's Mike Megan and Louis.

Alright, welcome back in horse racing.

Happy are this is Louis Robo alongside.

Mike Adolfo and Megan Divine wanted to just let yourself

believe in yourself being your shady Razor Ramon.

And so like how can you not have you put on a pair of shady

raised? You gotta take a selfie, There

It Is. By the way, you look at me.

If you go to Shady raise.com, if you put in the promo code

racing, you get 50% off. If you got your more pairs,

that's basically buy. One get one free.

It is amazed are awesome locally.

Can I just say here's the problem with us having sponsors

is that By all the things like when we were at J Shepherds

recording a podcast. I bought, I got the pandemic

special there. Yeah.

Also doesn't. The commercial for doesn't

doesn't J. Shepherd himself.

Just sounds like a guy who's sitting there with a cigar.

Like, you don't want his his voice.

Yeah, you just like it is him. You know, we're totally

derailing. Louis right now.

He's like I'm smiling. Yes.

All right. No, I enjoy cigars.

We're good. Yeah, we're good.

We're going to be lining those up here from have a shady raised

on, so it's fine. That's right.

I'd last segment. I was mad at you.

No, so I was mostly talking to Louis.

So maybe I'll just mostly talked to look this way.

Now up complimented you lasted less, I know.

But then something else happened and I forgot and I was mad.

All right, so we've got a lot of text in.

Actually. It was just great on for 379 680

UPS, job sex, line, the answer to our trivia question.

How many horses ran in the 1892 Derby?

We're looking for 33. Really horse.

My God. Yes.

We got a nice guess of for, from a from a texture, but we also

had a winning guests here from one sector of three, which is

great. And so we do have It's a

detectors need to let you know who they are.

So we can kind of give them a shout out.

Is that a thing? If you put your name on the

textile, do it, which I will right now for our guy Andrew,

who listens to the Pod is listening to us from the 925

area, code will have to look that up.

But he has a question. Have the fellas, been to

Saratoga. If not, why do they hate nice

things? Megan?

Go ahead. Probably.

I know Andrew is, I don't, I don't have to stop.

All right, but we don't call it territory.

We call the spot. We just take gambling.

I love everything about the spa. Yes.

I'm not a Saratoga picker. That is, I'm a Delmar guy.

So I don't know. Andrew.

I can't answer that question. I've been on the show for a

couple months. Now.

I've been trying to figure that out from the beginning.

There's no Rhyme or Reason to it.

I just do they have bad taste. I don't know where it is.

All right, we got another text in actually staring.

So, see on Twitter racing, folks, complaining about recent,

fast, rail or Golden. Rail at.

Churchill Downs. What is this?

I mean, should it in for my bedding?

This weekend is the question. Mega.

Do you have no name on this one, but very solid texture.

We've had it. That's it.

That's a great question. So there's been a lot of Insight

speed. Yeah, so I thought, two days

ago. It was just a conveyor belt on

the inside and I'm really not attract bias person.

And I also think it's it may be occurs at some tracks more than

others. So I will I will put that out

there but I did think that two days ago there was a lot of

inside speed and nobody could get by anybody who was just on

the way. A land in front yesterday.

There were some winners that came from off the pace and keep

in mind for the past two days. I believe they've been off the

turf. So, you know, the main track has

been used quite a bit. And today.

I mean, the last horse, was in front on the rail.

And then, I think there was another horse that was just

talking, but we haven't really seen any big closer yet today.

So we'll keep you. We've had enough rest of that

information. We've had a big city but no deep

closing. No, she plays.

Yeah, that's right. We haven't had any races with

where the horses have a ton of racing experience, you know, and

I think that a lot of sprint races to and they've had a lot

of problems. No allowance at a mile and but

Jane but they were lightly racetrack.

Right? I mean, this is the first race

coming up the six list and we got another phrase on the show.

We always take classes on class class 1 class and and this race

that's coming up re 6 is an allowance optional claiming race

six-and-a-half furlongs and we have so many graded Stakes

winners or at least horses that have been in great stakes races

in this, in this race coming up. It's, it's an incredible field

and this is what you get. Derby notes, we can't last year.

We have an allowance race where you had a Derby horse, run in

it, who ran the Derby before? You gotta, you know here, how

Creek hustle, who is scratched? Our oh they scratch.

I'm sorry. I'm that's okay little but it's

a name that everywhere a lot of horse racing folks.

Are he was at least enter this race scratching here.

Yeah. Huge, especially at the number.

He was that. So have you all you all looked

at this race yet? We have.

Yeah, do we want to wait a little bit handicapped or just

your head? Now?

We got another dozen Golf and 70 minutes here.

No, it's fine to talk. Yeah, let's do it.

Let's do it. All right, Lou, are you going to

be sorry. He looks very focused.

I was gonna let him go and I'll let you go.

First them. Oh, I look for the horses are

coming on the track right now for the race.

The race. I do like his is the class level

of the horses in here, that what they've run against coming into

here. I do like the seven lasting

Legacy here. Coming in has never won at

Churchill Downs, though, which I really bothers me.

And so if you're looking for someone else, who might be at a

price here, of course, they mucho in this race that might

jump up, has been kind of consistent here.

Keeps is actually Any Johnny Velasquez on the right?

We're just gonna bet all the Belmont.

Johnny Velasquez first today a right between the two of us.

We've covered all of them. No, it's about riding has one at

Churchill Downs. Previously has experienced at

the distance it so I do like the seven here, but I don't love

that. He hasn't won at Churchill Downs

of the three hear from me mucho at the price, especially not the

one is going to be my player moves, the board here.

Mucho. Sire is blame who beat Zenyatta

here in the Breeders Cup Classic.

So, the greatest cause of all time.

That is the worst sound I have ever heard, of course.

Yes. No, I Was right down over there,

to our left way at the top of the stretch and that humble

brag, because I was here, probably, I was here Michael.

Well, well, I was here too. It was electric as all, get-out

2011, the whole creation, the whole crowd, just like let down.

It was just a dozen bottles of that.

Yeah, and and and the race caller, you know, was trying was

like I said, yeah, it does. Then you gotta and and she just

couldn't get there. It's perfect.

And for sure it was American pharoah winning the Triple

Crown. I mean the Way That Shook but

ginormous grandstand of Belmont. Like you could hear it in

Manhattan. Wow, it was crazy.

It was so so so we got very quick, shot off from the text

line says, hey coach Mike. Oh and Simpson.

I was the one who had three horses.

All right, let's go. There we go.

There we go. All right.

Hey, Brian Jensen, we hold on a minute.

We also have a thing where we drink, when Louis says, shout

out. I said, yeah, we a lot.

Where is your bourbon? Well, you have it next to you.

Yeah, we're that's on the table. You actually have a glass in

front. You can this flask.

We don't have one of those again.

This is not your grandfather's horse.

Racing's don't have two of them. You may be it is not a plastic

bourbon. If you have a good grasp the

Megan, who do you like here? Okay.

I like the I went 568 fives on the screen right now.

Looking super fantastic, Javier Castellano, aboard on honest.

Mischief, you know, third start off the lay off.

This horse is super consistent last year, won three out of six

in 2019, visitors over to, unfortunately, but as had some

horrible breaks and the past year races, that was in a Stakes

race here at Churchill Downs, finished behind volatile who we

all like, very much so that I think gives us a lot of

credentials and then at Saratoga, was in an allowance

race last time was favored and finished 4th after a horrible

break as well. So expect to see this one.

Sit just off the pace and close a little bit.

We'll see if that's The case, but I actually I'm surprised by

the six horse. Is that for the last 21, you

know, it's 82. One was way too big of a price

521. I guess that you themes about

right foot back up. Now though, lots of class here,

you know, this horse has actually been favored in against

or I thought over hog Creek hustle who scratched at this

race, but would have been, you know, one that people included

at this level and I just think it's a case of this horse has

been in way too tough. The past couple of times.

I mean, last time. 150,000 dollar allowance race.

I mean, those horses in that field, CZ rocket coppertown.

They were just way way too good and then before that, soccer

racetrack, a grade 1, I mean grade, 3, grade 3, grade, one

more, and this horse is actually, in fact, finished

second at a grade, 1 grade 2 level.

So I think it's just a matter of this is the proper level for

this Source, this 80,000 dollar allowance race is where this war

should be running. They had high hopes for him.

He actually performed pretty well.

I mean, he's great. It's takes place in grade one,

placed. But this should be his race here

today. And so I just think he's in the

right spot and he said a right price to at 12:55.

If you can get there, my one concern, and speaking of that

track bias that we just mentioned before.

If that there's a lot of speed that's holding over the surface.

He is a hard closer. He's a deep closer.

So that's that's not going to work.

So well for him. There you go.

I mean there's that six horses got a ton.

So an egg and strike that too though.

Before we leave that one off because you know, he's gonna

romp to the, to Finish Line, who's actually on the screen

right now. He's a front running tip, so it

might actually His favor, but he finished second behind

volleyball that horse. We mentioned.

This is the toughest race. He is ever running before.

So you kind of have opposing situations for the eight, who's

stepping up in class. Where is this?

6 is stepping down in class but both seem to be pretty talented.

Okay. There you go.

So 568, a little bit more talky. Louise.

Got a little bit and now it's double digit solo along.

It's a Louise Longshot. Officially Louise, Marsh

Oddball. Oh, let's go mucho para, 3 is 10

to 1 in this race. All right, so I don't know if

you all tuned in to dinner this. Earning or not, but we had a

little bit, there's developing controversy.

I guess it's always probably been there to some degree over

the playing of My Old Kentucky Home because they were some

uncertainty on whether or not My Old Kentucky Home is going to be

played here, Blue Devils marching band.

Obviously, it's really hard to do a marching band right now in

the covid world. They're not going to be here

doing. The My Old Kentucky Home is one

of my favorite moments of all get-out.

I get goosebumps. When My Old Kentucky Home comes

on and the horses, come on the track here.

It's in everyone's singing and it's just an incredible moment.

Let's play real quick. The the sound from Senator Mitch

McConnell, on the dinner show from this morning.

Your Churchill Downs, will have to make that decision that

that's our state song and been with us for a long time.

I think tradition is important, and hopefully we can figure a

way forward without worrying about, you know, offending

people people these days seem to get offended by just about

everything and I think we ought to have a very, very long

discussion before we decide to walk away from from that

tradition. Where is wincing right there?

The statement doesn't mean, he's not wrong, people get offended

at everything. Like don't, you don't think

people are looking to get offended right now.

Certain people but not, not the majority of people.

Well II, the song, references slavery.

There's nothing. It's not, you don't, they had to

make a state bill. So it the the words changed

about it. Well, that's true.

I mean, come on. I mean, no, not.

There's, there's legitimate reason to be To be offended by

the song. However, get the bad parts out

and keep the good parts in when now what they did.

Yes, and but, but the point here is, it's big, but we don't have

to that's fair. The you don't have to You don't

have to kill the whole thing to not offend people and to do the

right thing. And again, it kind of goes to

the same conversation. We're having about holding Derby

in general. I mean something that, that is

something that people are. So vehement lie against is also

something that means the entire world to another class of

people. I mean, you cannot please,

everyone ever in any situation. And, I mean, I try to think

about it from a Horseman standpoint and, and think about

the riders that are riding in this race.

There are some riders that have never won the Kentucky Derby,

maybe some that have never ridden in the Kentucky Derby

before. And they're coming out on those

horses through that tunnel as they do historically.

And and you know, Unfortunately they usually have the the

singing crowds are looking at the band.

They're looking at the Derby Winner Circle as they're coming

out. But that moment I tear up in the

eight years that I've been here every single time.

And sure you don't think that that moment and hearing that

song and knowing that their entire career, that they work

for every day has led to this moment that that doesn't mean

something to them, of course it beats and and so it and it

should and so it should be Played here.

It's part of the juveniles, the terrible parts of it for sure

and that's right. And that's fine.

But yeah, whatever. I mean come to a common ground

and that but for it to be completely abolished and not

have it at all. I don't think it's right.

I think that's as long as it's the same song as we played.

It should be. If you want me to come.

It's the same thing with the. I forget the full name, but the

Wabash song in Indiana that they play at the Indiana, right?

Indianapolis 500, scuse me. I agree with you.

It's a state song. Should be played.

And that's still. Yeah.

It's, how will we do it. And so I could Get real

interesting. Yeah, you think so.

Yeah, I ordered down being political horse racing.

No, no. No, but I want to put an event.

I mean, granted with everything going on.

We kind of have to have. It would be ignorant of us to

not touch on some of these points because of everything

that's literally going on around.

Also found the ground, you want to acknowledge that X because I

don't want this person to think they were not listening.

Okay, we're Hispanics. Part of the field of jockeys.

When the jockeys have color, meaning black jockeys were

pushed out by the way. This is someone who's never

texted this station, okay. Also, thank you for listening.

Thank you for texting. Yeah, the influx of Hispanic

jockeys in the absence of black jockeys.

Don't seem to be very close in time.

I agree with that text. Yeah, and so my point before was

more, we have this history early on, we have this song and we can

talk about both, we can be productive about both going

forward, right? So, you know, so on the show,

people know, I am a big fan of Assiniboine Downs.

Okay, that should be a drink. That is, it was medicine,

Winnipeg Canada. Just want to let you know,

Western man. Over.

So they're jockey Colony, has Neville Stevenson and Antonio

Whitehall and Stanley Sadie Junior.

And then Kayla Pizarro like a bunch of people who are of

color. They're women.

They're different things. I would love to get them on and

say, did this happen organically or was there a concerted effort?

Or like, what did you do? Because we talked about it here

just earlier just, you know, we do have a jockey Colony here as

talented as anywhere for sure. It's great and I love it.

And I love the guys that are here in the women that are here,

but I would love to know what, what, what cost Western Manitoba

to be just this hotspot of true jockey diversity working is to

and Canada that maybe it's a Canadian thing then.

Yeah, right. Yeah.

That's actually a really good point.

Yeah. I mean, there's plenty of

jockeys of color and female jockeys up there.

So I just wanted to announce that test because I don't want

people to think that we're hiding from topic.

So that will do that because like we said, we're not your

grandpa's show and, you know, we'll talk about those things

and, and, and the whole point Three of us.

Could have the same opinion. Yeah, the whole point of the

show and why I joined you guys, I was a guest on the show a

couple of times before, you know, I actually became a

regular part of it, but it was my favorite interview that I had

done of any of the podcast or shows that I had been on because

it should be and we are and it is just a couple of friends

sitting around the bar drinking bourbon or whatever it is that

you like to have. Yeah.

And talking about racing or about life or whatever else, you

know, so it's what we're here for.

All right into the talking. About that jockey Connie though.

I'm going to transition to the derby because this is a

different batch of jockeys. It has four.

And and you know, it's it's heavily influence because of the

covid world that were in and how hard it is to travel and and

jockeys had to make real decisions on whether or not they

were going to come and there we are.

Often the restrictions off. Yes jockeys had to make a real

decision on whether or not they want to leave where they're at

because then they had to quarantine if they went back and

all that other kind of stuff. We're going to we're kind of

seen the future stars of jockeys in this.

Do You know, it's really interesting to me.

Megan Tis. The law is written by many

Franco. Manny has not had much luck

here. He said to Derby starts, and

he's never done better than 17 tis.

A laws. Only loss was here at Churchill

Downs in an off track, but was beat by finding the fierce you

scratch earlier this morning. Finding the first came in second

at race actually, right? The lack of experience in

Jockeys. It is it nullified a little bit

to that. We don't have the crowd to.

Yes, and we don't have the you know, some of these horses.

Have now gone, the distance all the unknowns that we usually

have around Derby or not there. Yeah.

No, I think that's a really great point because, you know,

you have, it's very intimidating to ride this Rostrum.

That's what I was going to close on this thing.

I think like my sons are siren. I don't know.

I like myself are gonna get this.

What did I have here? I'm five.

I guess I got the wrong lead. It was ten to one.

He gave her half to three and then my second one.

I just said I hated that the senate had one here, but I think

he's the best horse new ones and you know, you did say that but

it's true Anna's and seven had in your face cream.

I'll tell you right there. The seven had a hold, hold off a

late charge and you know, that's really impressive.

That was actually a really good ride as a great by Paco Lopez

because shout out to look at while you can't see this, but I

guess I'll describe it to you. Okay?

No, they're well. Yeah, if you're watching, if

you're watching a long, I know it.

That's his right rain that he had.

He was a left-hander. Yeah, I know, but I wasn't one

of his reins. He's like, completely not

holding it all. And actually thought it was the

outside 10K, which would mean that he wasn't pulling his horse

off of the other one. So he was riding into the

competition to cause his horse to be a bit more competitive,

which is not not an uncommon, uncommon pocket, when you know,

there's a Lopez don't work. We have lasting Legacy for the

win there and we'll get you the Something idea of some of the my

six or seven Taco was on New York traffic tomorrow.

I learned today from Travis down that it is it is when you go to

traffic because it and here's why we're talking about lots of

Wyler case. Yeah, the why is lower case?

But but why was that American pharoah?

Uh, you know, I actually wasn't I know they had a name.

They had a horse competition and someone misspelled pharaoh and

they didn't they didn't fix it. Yeah.

I love, that's how, I don't know, but I think that's maybe

what happened. So yeah, York night.

Traffic. Yeah, we went back and forth for

several times about that. And I've heard it pronounced

both times by tracking tracking Outdoors.

But yeah, we did know the health.

Especially New York. Traffic was good.

Seeing tribes to the more. Yeah.

Yeah. So, so what is your Emma Stone?

The race caller here. I know people that are coming in

from out-of-state real quick, then about the do.

Field. So, you know, we're not going to

get the full 20 horse field. We kind of do that.

We were going to the situation we had.

This has been a discussion on products for a long time about

where this field would be and I just made the comment.

I kind of gave the over under the of 17 horses.

And of course, we're going to be sitting at 16.

And quite honestly, though. I have a little bit of a concern

on some of these horses that came in, on the back end.

Should there be more of a minimum standard on the dirt on

the horses? That should be eligible to win

in the derby? I like this take from you.

By the way. I think this is sneaky good that

you have a point system. Why aren't you using it?

Right? What we had a point system and

we have what is their three horses or four horses with no

points to know? Oh, look, they're looking at it.

They're looking at the, at the park.

Alina don't we had our second part, by the way, the 7 horse?

Well, did he? I can't talk in the mic and I'm

gonna turn it. Yeah, Megan's trying, I'm trying

to see the board and also talk. At the directly Finish Line

there. I actually don't know.

He's going Paco's going left-handed with the sticky

switches over and he pushes out the five horse.

So he actually does knock them off the path.

It's just a couple of strides before the line, but he does

knock them off the path, a little bit.

Go and say because I picked the seven that they shouldn't take

this down, you think? Yeah, and I picked it.

Yeah, I mean he is leaning into mmm.

I mean I was on the wrong lead horses are $590 mad about Max.

What does it mean to be on the lead to explain to our

listeners? What it means to be in the

league? So coming around the turn,

horses should always be on the left lead that just the way that

they're balanced. Think about, you like turning in

a car and the car, right? You're leaning the way that

you're going. But then when they come into the

straightaway, on the track, they will switch on to the fresh leg.

So they'll actually make them shift their body weight.

And then the right leg will be leading some horses.

Don't do that, and it's usually a couple of things.

It can be a sign of an injury. It can be fatigue.

And some horses just aren't really very school that doing

that. It's sometimes a horse that is a

trainer as you break horses and you try to teach them what to

do. You try to instill in them

because, you know, if you're onto a fresh like you have more

energy and you should be able to run faster.

So lasting Legacy was on the incorrectly and I don't know if

Paco was just trying to get him change leads, but I thought that

he was writing to that 50 party McGee on Twitter on record that

this should come down. All right, so we'll see what

happens because this is a we had a horse come down.

Earlier in the day. So this will be the we've

argued. It's weird to have one inquiry.

Now we have to tell and not for nothing.

This is one of the horses that was trained by Jason service.

I'll cheer for the form of a to break out who and of course,

Jason service. The trainer of last year's

Kentucky Derby winner for a hot second, maximum security.

But when you say we call him the horse that finished that crossed

the Finish Line. First divorce, that cross the

finish line first Maximum Security.

So it's a very touchy subject. And actually I think it's the

same owners to or This is, this is really bad.

Deja Vu for them, Gary Mary West.

Speaking of the same owners, right?

Yeah. That's the Iron Age of look.

I'm riding Paco, her, don't take it down.

Take it down. This is the wall down.

The last time that we had 60 horses in the derby to the laws.

Ownership had a horse named funny side.

He won the Kentucky side three coasters, love that.

Yes. Yes.

Lauren loves a horse as well. Shut off a horse.

She's listening from Utah at the moment.

It is. All right.

So so going back to the comment about the nose.

Just, you know, it's just like giggling got a little better in

maggots before 2:00 and I'm drinking like the first time

she's relaxed. This also.

I had a cookie so don't give Megan sugar that one down.

What do you think about this? The take of like the we should

have a little bit more of a minimum standard here.

I just With you 98%? Okay.

Yeah, I think it's bad. Take I think it's a sneaky good

take but I don't like it. Okay, you would explain why you.

I just I think this idea that that the Derby is this sacred

like it's a three million dollar grade One race.

Yeah, and that should have some qualifications Okimoto in mind

that bird one. I just, I don't know.

I I don't get I don't get caught up it on.

Who's at the bottom of the field.

Yeah, but it's not like, by the way, you told me I hate more.

Shouldn't have run in the derby by the way in dead last.

That's how I did not say that. I said it was changing.

Both of you said you he should come down and take the very West

Asia. Some Deja Vu, there is whatever

there is out there, but the Whitmore conversations a little

different and this is change. Because I never he was seems

like you're in third and some like the Santa Anita Derby

something. He qualified that I'm saying,

though, when they figured out when they're, when they're six

months away from the Breeders Cup, they can still figure out

what they are for the reader stuff.

You know, for the Derby. This is different.

They need to know they need and I'll start conditioning horse or

where they're going to be. This is terrible.

Okay, this arguments awful Don because you just told me this is

a three million dollar race yet. The fifth place finisher gets 90

grand, by the way, that's just one.

Eight hundred thousand dollar a get.

That's fine. Fine.

Let me ask you a question, Louis Hibbing.

Do you horses need to qualify for graded stakes races?

I don't know the answer to that. No, you can move your horse up

into it from from an allowance race to a great one if you want

to do it. So make it agrees with me.

No, so it's wait. Do you say that they don't?

I'm saying I'm saying why should they have to?

I actually kind of like it being a little bit more open to to

marry. Green has a green then I like it

being more open to variables because I think it gives you a

better race. I think horses that are About a

better product. It's a better betting product

and horses that are able to succeed over, you know, tougher

variable suffer, obstacle suffer fields, of course, is more

diverse fields of horses. Trina Berg being one of my

favorite, but I guess just to arguing with me.

So she just assumed she was honest.

I really, really listen, you're bad at math.

I was watching the horse, my horse being put in for sugar but

we're like way late for a Break by the way.

Alright. Anyways, I agree with Lily.

I guess I was like vinegar coming.

All right, Willie. Let's get your.

What's your trivia question going into this?

Let's break. All right, so there are no fans

at Derby. What are the average number of

mint? Juleps, drunk at the race each

year. Oh, I know this number.

Okay. I think I know this number

average, number of mid-june. It was consumed at the derby

with incredibly low. To me.

I thought, okay. I think that's actually

accurate. Yeah, so, all right, so we'll be

right back. This is the horse racing, happy

hour. You are listening on ESPN,

Louisville's family of stations. 680, 93, 9, and 10. 57 is foot

as also. The biggest sports radio.

So we'll be right back on the other side of the break.

Time. Now, for Kentucky, Oaks pre-race

coverage with the horse racing. Happy hour right here on ESPN.

Now, live from Churchill Downs. Here's Mike, Gandolfo Megan

Divine and Louis, Robbo. Lou young king, I'm in trouble.

Sweeney Sweeney says, we're not telling everybody we are enough.

So I got to make sure that you can reset your office.

I'll do it. Yeah, so we are the horse racing

a go ahead, Ed horse, happy hour on Twitter, hit us up.

We are interacting with the UPS jobs text line today for 379,

685, 024 379 680. We're getting some of the

answers on the trivia questions, which is great, appreciate

people texting in on that. But yeah, I'm Louis Robbo and

then there's Micah devil costume, me.

We're both Louisville, guys, my grew up here.

I may chose the town if you will, and then Megan what's

College here? And she's back for a little

while at least, but is an LA based TVG personality.

And so she's in town for Derby, of course.

And so, that's who we are. We are these ones recipients.

I guess we're discovering your name all week.

Louis Robo. Know.

How were they saying, you know, were they saying your name?

Louis Robo? Oh, he doesn't want to do it.

Okay. Can you send that sound?

Go ahead cream. Come on, play it.

Pork read just like horse racing, happy hour, folks.

They'll be joining us as well. Megan Divine might Gandalf own.

We got it. Right Lewis rub.

Oh, there we go, Louis, right. I like that boy.

There you go. How save that meant?

We rub. Oh, now they were s rattray.

Bow rabo rate, instead of great enter the promo code racing.

Get 50% off two or more pairs. And by the way, you were cool

with a race. Right now.

We use my last name as a promo. We did, we did going by the way

shave, you get a ship are shady raised and you drop them in the

river or the lake or you run them over with your car.

If you put them in your garbage disposal, they'll send you a

brand-new pair. I just do Vin the lake with some

other sunglasses that we're doing better.

You have to have these sites a night.

I mean, yeah, I knew I did it to.

That was the worst part. Like, as my feet left, the

ground of like, I have my sunglasses off and it was too

late. We've had a bunch of great

people here. He's doing stuff around our

house. We're moving soon.

And shout out to our Solutions. There you go, and just put like,

Landscaping, different stuff, man.

If you're in one of those fields, Shady raises a

no-doubter for you. I mean, yes, it's a not working

around horses. I mean, oh my gosh.

Absolutely. I used to never have nice

sunglasses for that reason. All right, so we got to come

back on trivia. All right, just give my guests

number. Oh, yeah.

Yeah. Yes, served on a derby Saturday,

my Go 120,000 exactly. Right?

Very good. You cheat.

I heard that this week. It's a pretty famous that

actually and so the reason Mike says that seems low is because

that's about 50,000 less than the number of people here.

Well, yeah, there's a hundred seventy thousand dollars.

Not like mint juleps. I mean you see people walk out

with stacks of glasses. I guess I figured I figured

there's if you're here you're drinking and and of course,

there's underage people here to don't get mad.

So I know that there's kids here.

Shark, write it out. You want to hear that?

You were here, the Mitchell Story by the way.

Yeah, the first module by ever had here, and then I'm going to

Give my really hot. Did I ever tell you?

I've never told you this making by the way, I love my Jewels.

I love a properly made proper Mitchell.

Do you? Do you make a proper?

I do you sure. You've seen that Facebook video.

Having you not know. It's a great video.

What Megan doesn't. She doesn't cheat sheet because

really she's a big-time you with you.

My Facebook page. I think it's a Facebook last.

I don't know if I can. I might be a lot of work for me

to go like this. Childless single woman is very

busy. I have the farm, the redhead,

and I come here for, for what was her free.

I've been here so much as my family said a box here for like

7, I'm really concerned actually more about the Thanksgiving not

having things. I've had Thanksgiving here every

year of my life helping figure it out.

I hope it's all healthy and figured out, but the get to the

bottom of our mint julep. Okay, the very first one we've

ever had. Here.

And at the bottom of glasses, a big cockroach.

Yep. Are you serious cockroach?

It's amazing. Oh, did you drink did you eat

it? Or what?

Do we do know? I mean, we were like, grossed

out because we got, we gotta get to the bottom of it to find a

cockroach and we drank the whole thing with the cockpits, the

bottom of that's terrific. And we're not having that bad, a

marvelous, and my mom grabbed the glass.

She goes, I'll take care of this and she storms off and she comes

back with four glasses. Like that's how they solve the

problem. I give us notnot.

That know many children are empty glasses.

But okay, so my heart take my heart.

Take on mint. Juleps.

Is that not only are they not great.

What's the racist? Don't think that's pretty good.

They're not the best Triple Crowns Rings.

Oh, what the black-eyed? Susan is by far.

The finest of the Triple Crown never had a black eye because

we're going to try it. What is the okay?

Belmont screen, the Preakness the breeze, the briefs also

bourbon based. There's bourbon in the, in the

in the excuse me, in the black-eyed, Susan, but the

black-eyed Susan thinks I'm great.

It is it is one part. Vodka, one part bourbon.

Okay? One part, sour mix, and then

like three or four parts orange juice.

It is shockingly, great. Why did we not like make these

leading up to the show? This should have been part of

friends, friends of mine who we hang out with will know that I

just make pictures of mint juleps when we get together.

I don't see she's not my job to stood me up.

Like I did make one for us Mike. Now you expect I would have

orange juice in this place. Yeah.

Okay. Just asking I literally have

made growing up again. Like, whoa, whoa, whoa.

Whoa, live radio speakers. I've literally I literally have

National Guard post. Making it look what you're doing

to me right now, crackers. I'll make you the majula.

There's, there's certain things that you can't skimp on on the

mint julep to make the problem. We need to have no proper

materials. For sure.

Fire. This fire is a new thing.

This is also also with Woodford Reserve, sponsor of Kentucky

Derby. All right, let's get back to the

horse-racing. Happy hour.

How about that? Talk about bourbon, what we are

talking about? Bourbon, which is part of the

drinking games and all kinds of stuff.

So games 120,000 mint, juleps. There it is.

Let's get into this under car because listen, we got, we got

some amazing races and we're going to be on air for two

stakes races lose that correct. Yeah, eight bells and then the

types the LSU. So do we want to use media to

excuse me? Yeah, the Edgewood which to me

is a real interesting race that this time around.

We got a long shot in there that I think could be vulnerable.

But you know, Can spoil that, dude, so, do we want to go to

the alley Sheba? So, since will talk about the

eight bells in the Edgewood right before we start, let's

talk about the bells because it starts a pic 500k.

Pick five. Here we go.

Actually, a pic 3, which I think is really interesting.

So, Churchill Downs, has gone to what a lot of tracks has gone

to, which is the rolling pick three.

So there's essentially a pick three every race as long as

there's two more races after it and so, I'm big into, I love the

rolling pick three. I put out on Twitter a couple

days ago at Ellis Park, playing the rolling pick three, is I

really I love Pig threes. If you can find a single that

you like and then use that single first leg.

And then in the next one, in the second leg.

And then the next one of the third leg gives you opportunity

to play a bunch of multiple tickets.

If people are listening, don't know.

Pick three is where you literally just pick the winner

of three races in a row at Churchill.

Downs. Are a 50-cent bet.

And then compounded about 50 Cent.

Minimum. You can, you can play it for

more and I recommend if you're playing a pic32 prefer dollar.

Yep, I agree with you. Yeah.

Okay. So Ray say the eight Bells is

About Twin Spires. I cam is a great to 300,000

dollar purse, by the way, amazing / sizes, again, even on

the stakes, races, for we've seen a lot of 150, 200 thousand

dollar stakes races this year, 75, especially for a great too.

And so this is for the Phillies that are three years old.

These are probably the horses that were on the Oaks Trail, but

really are more of a 1 turn race than a to turn racehorse.

So she could mean being this race.

Mike, according to the what happened her last race.

Yes, but, you know, listen. Give me very well.

Give me very well. Might win the Oaks.

Okay? Sure.

I think she's even money favorite.

So a lot of people think she was.

She, I still, I don't see how she's bigger favor than

swisscott ever. I just don't see it.

By the way, Mike in case you're not look by the way, Megan loves

everything from California. So yeah, she do.

Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, but you get a horse like for Grace's in that same kind of

boat. That was hot on the Oaks Trail

for sure. Right and for Grace's is by far

the or not. We got to favorites and she must

like her better. And the Monday called.

Yeah, I do too. I for Grace is better than mine.

Yeah, why? Well, I don't know because I

just looked at, I don't know, probably, cuz I'm just little

bit more familiar for Grace's. I mean, again, I'm not and I'm

on the show. I'm not the handicapper.

I don't even try to pretend to be the handicapped early and

Megan are the handicappers. I'm here to kind of keep it.

So here's what I would host. So he hits his looks.

The, what I wrote down here was I have a slight cold Fire.

By the way, slight Edge to, for Grace is here.

The Sea Winds at Churchill Downs?

242, because of her, terrific at Churchill Downs, a meter.

Faggot ritual dance, right? If Monday called wins this race,

I don't think it's any shock to anyone frankly.

Right? And so that isn't it longer

tickets. You play one and seven.

Okay, but I think here and by the way, the 4 and the 6 or

scratched and so the I don't there's not a lot of value in

this race. So if you're going to use this

race, this is a pic three pic for pic five kind of race, use

it in your longer ticket. And so for me, it's 71 again,

would not be shocked to find a call comes up when winds here

with a brand coxon for edgy. But I think that I think for

Grace is absolutely, the better horse.

I agree with you. I mean, like you said, 242 here.

Churchill 444 in the distance and also just as far as the

level of races, we talked about this on the podcast as well.

Which, you know, for fans that are listening that aren't

necessarily degenerate gamblers yet, you know, we talk a lot

about educational stuff. I think and and qualifying

graded stakes races and not all graded stakes races are created

equally, you know, you could have a grade three in one place

that looks a whole lot different than another might be tougher in

one place versus another. So I think that's the case with

for Grace's who comes out of winning a grade 3 race at

Keeneland. Which I think was a tougher

group than the some others in here.

And obviously, Monday call coming up from a listed Stakes

race. Not as tough as a grade 3 race.

I don't think you can give that as much credit as much.

Credence as you would for the other horsemen and yet Monday

call 625 over over the 74 Grace. This is 75.

Second choice. So I think I think I agree with

you. I think you go shortened here.

If you want to take a longer ticket.

You don't want to single. Then you go 71.

Otherwise here is your single, so you can get a lot of coverage

in the first. The earlier rather or start off

with a single if you want to and then you can spread out later.

Alright, me money called you the time in that in that race was

pretty phenomenal. And we 101 21 and that 74 a long

race. And so I think that didn't we

see ocean breeze run today though?

Yes. As the heavy favorite.

Did that horse win? I don't think so.

No, I'd lost it back to ya badly.

Yeah. It's been a weird transition.

This week horses coming from Ellis are not running great

here. Who are quieter not kind of a

not going to be here though. He's not here, but I would have

trusted him here. But the so when I call coming

from Ellis Park, but but this is a Turf race.

Yeah, so no reason not to like money Collier.

All right. So let's let's go to I'm sorry,

that's the out. She was not sure if race the the

seventh race is a Turf race. I was looking at the gate on the

adults on temperature. So we're getting ready for the

race seven there on the track. I think we need to make a pic

here real quick as they load their getting the gate on the On

the turf, this is a mile and an eighth on the turf.

It is 100,000 allowance race for Phillies, a three-year-olds

upwards, who have never won a race, other than their Maiden.

I'm betting. A name here like a, like a child

would but including those who it is Cecilia.

Absolutely. So am I gonna go?

Yes, what do you got? I don't accept that Cecilia

then. Yeah.

Now I'm gonna ride with Corey Landry here on the one.

Audrey's time, 9 to 10, 10 to 1:00 in the morning line.

And a little bit of experience down to Fairgrounds a little bit

of a layoff here. So I'm hoping the layoff really

was effective. And so Audrey's time, the one

here across the board for me at a mile and an eighth on the turf

here at Churchill Downs. I'm Megan.

Have, you looked at this race? Which one?

This is the seventh? Yes.

I have cheese. Where horses from show guys.

Come on. I'm still working.

There's well. I'll tell you the story in it,

but she was on her phone. No, I was because baffert

shifted. I'll wait to tell you my picks,

Kevin baffert shipped in a couple of hours.

It's to Churchill Downs and there are three major ones that

are bays with white faces. And that is thousand words.

Go mean and authentic and thousand words an authentic.

Look very similar. Authentic is just a little bit,

he's taller, and he's a little lighter colored than thousand

words. But I mean, they they're

basically twins. So part of my job for for NBC

Sports is to, you know, do all those stops tall shots and make

sure that the editors are putting in the right shots, the

right names for the right horse, has so many shows.

Come on the show. They don't show the wrong horse

and they just asked me for clarification on whether or not.

It was 1000 words. Not that doing.

They definitely had it wrong. So I'm glad I answered that day.

Oh good. All right, he's back to the show

will brag work from DC. I'm just trying to make a living

man race number seven for Churchill Downs.

I went with the 679. So I went with everybody except

for Cecilia. Thanks.

I went flabbergasted. Yahoo for Mark, hasse coming off

that win. They actually took the blinkers

off this horse to races back and it really seemed to improve her

form. She is coming off a little bit

of a layout but I like her. Turf at experience, of course,

and I thought the race three back where she was intended to

do. Well at Fairgrounds.

She actually had a horrible trip that day.

She was really, really wide. So I like her.

I like the fact that she's adjustable.

She can set the fractions herself and be upfront or sit

just off their pace which on this particular track I think is

going to be important and then the 7 horse I hear you for Mike

Sid. I'm coming off that win at

Keeneland. I think the workouts have

consistently been very good quarter million dollar purchase,

by the way, so they thought this horse was something special and

then the nine Ella. Bria I believe for Brian Lynch

and and Javier Castellano. She reaches back, but at third

and allowance rates, so, you know, you have horses who are

two of I mentioned are coming up from Maiden special weight.

So first time versus winners is what we set.

You have to win a maiden race. That's your first win.

Then you go up to either claiming or allowance levels.

So whereas those earlier, two horses I mentioned, just one

there bade, you know, their baby raised to be called their Maiden

race, they broke the maiden and now we're stepping up and do it.

Tougher class. The nine horse actually has been

racing at this level before, so you get a little bit.

More experience against tougher horses that she brings into this

field and that might help her out.

Although she's not had a good 2020.

She's 045. She finished third four times.

Hey Louise. So Megan mentioned races all the

way off and this is something that you're a big second horse

out that second time of the layoffs, kind of talk about that

a little bit. So our betters and kind of get a

little education. I think the concept there is

that, you know, if there's a stretch of many months between

races and then all three, typically ready for a laugh at

least. Yeah, maybe for.

And if a horse is running for the first time off of the Lay

off. You kind of very difficult to

predict how they're going to perform.

However, many trainers. Will set up a horse to run that

first time off the layoff just to get their legs back under

them. And then the second time off the

layoff literally the second race after that four month stretch or

three months stretch, whatever it might be the horse really is

going. Again, really feels like he's or

she is back and form and fit again and ready to go.

And so that's what Megan is talking about, in this case.

Yeah, and it's a lot, it's a lot like people.

I mean, if you, if you compare it to that, think about the

first time that you, you know, if you haven't worked out in

forever. Virginia forever.

The first time you do it is going to be, you know, a little

top. You're not going to be at your

best, but then you stay at it for a little while.

Maybe the second week if you're consistent with it or something

or you know, you feel a lot better.

It comes to you a lot easier. You just kind of back in your

stride and it's the same thing with horses.

Alright, so there you go. That's the picture for the

seven. We're like minutes from from

from the from the post here and what we'll go back.

Do you want to is there anybody else in the in the alley Sheba?

That's not right, babe else. I'm sorry.

They built say The race. Anybody else we mentioned the

two favors for Grace's and Monday call sconces a nice

horse. Yeah, but she's not better than

the other two, but she just isn't so there's but that's a

nice horse councils. Nice horse that.

Because if you want if you want scottson, you're going to be in

great. The reason you're gonna be

running around for a long time. Okay.

I just want to make sure we customize horse for two, picks

in for anybody who want to bet this stir fries coming up.

So then that takes us on to the ninth race, which is the my

Ledgewood on the turf. It is a great to good.

Spirits are not sorry, Sharon's going to come in here as Really

heavy favorite in this race and lost last time out in a great in

the, in a great one coronation Stakes.

But before that, we saw sharing win here at Churchill Downs in

the tip and steaks. And this horse is also the horse

that won the Breeders Cup juvenile fillies.

Felix in Turf, caerphilly surf, Turf, Phillies, whatever.

But the bourbon. Oh, yeah.

Sorry. And was, it was a good price

there, you know, at that time. So, I don't know.

I'm getting the feeling though that this horse.

Might be vulnerable here. Yeah.

Sharing. You could be possible here.

Yes. Are you singling this horse?

I mean, Probably, I think that. Yeah, this is the best source of

the field. I mean you said when you

introduced sharing you said lost last time out in the coronary

weeks and everyone. Hold on a minute.

Yeah in a green one a group one rather at a skit at Royal Ascot

and write and finish second still to a good horse

alpinestars. So, I mean it wasn't really a

loss, it wouldn't you know, finished second.

It was a good placing sure for those words.

And before that was Ben. Yeah, carried more.

Than ever. This has been a really

successful Philly. She's done extremely.

Well, her worst result was third by a neck and her first start.

And then after that she's one with the exception of her race

in England. So I think sharing is absolutely

a horse that you you use in here.

I mean, she's a Breeders Cup, juvenile fillies Turf winner

last year at Santa Anita, and she just stands above the rest

of this field in here. I don't disagree with anything.

You said I just feel like she might be, you know, get me

Franco aboard here as well. But on the turf, so maybe

Franco. On the favorite in this race, as

well as also written this horse five times before.

Yes, and done very well. I'm, I don't know.

I don't know where my feelings coming from.

I just kind of feel like this horse is probably and maybe this

is the same thing which is a lot of morals.

Such a big favorite over and seems to be so much higher,

like, you know, maybe we don't get the effort that we wanted to

see. Didn't we say, I'm pretty sure

we talked about classical class. Well, yeah, the Teppan, did we

talk about that race on the show.

I remember the tip and we did here at Churchill Downs, which

is just a listed Stakes race. It felt like a great, it was a

great as a great fit was actually great to.

Yeah, exactly. So I remember that rating that

race a lot higher than what it actually was.

Louis your 6 does not want to load here Megan.

I know I would just not interested in loading.

My one is chilling. It's like 921 pay me.

So you're 64. Megan's having you're going to

go heavy on sharing. Would you single this horse in

the pick? Five?

You know, it looks to be a pretty shocking.

I just put out a pic three myself, 16789 17 and then I

single chair in the 3rd. Okay.

There you go begum. If you're going to look

elsewhere. Maybe you look towards the one

in the I think Henry Woods is an interesting horse or the to, but

I don't think. In Marrakesh was actually

scratch. I'd race earlier this week to

run in the spot. So, welcome, Eric, a, she

scratched at the races. We were talking about last week

on on Sunday. Not that one right?

There was a super heavy favorite.

Where was he supposed to be my mama, maybe mama mama mama,

there we go. Right there off.

And the in the seventh, when you look at that beautiful bright

for the one who's not, his just going to totally disappoint me.

Look at it. It's a beautiful six is upfront.

So that six is more beautiful. Running up.

Front running in front of us for the first time not the Twin

Spires but us Look how comfortable.

I mean, the the rider has his weight shifted back and the

horses easily in hand. Just a beautiful stride over

that Turf covered a lot of ground.

It's everything that you want to listen to you, like, pick up on

all those little things settle down.

It's, it's crazy. It's crazy, like, settled for 20

years of my life, but it's kind of like when I come from a

basketball coaching background, and there's been a couple

coaches that I've been around. Who can just really see things?

See the game differently. Explain the game differently.

Yeah, and I In. So you've actually really opened

my eyes up to just all those little nuances.

And but that's the way it is, in any, any kind of sport was

wrong. We say nice things about me.

Louis, why? We might as well be mad at me.

This is the horse racing happy hour, Mike and off, we were bow

and Megan Divine and I mostly I'm being too nice to making the

body. I think it's great.

Totally fine with it. Let's move on to the raced in

which is the out Sheba Stakes today.

It is a great to 400,000 our race for four year olds.

And up, is a mile on the 16th on the dirt.

Dirt. Amanda's ten, horse is coming in

is sneaking up on the six horse. My one's about to cut the corner

here and finished sixth at six horses, going to pull away.

It's turns going to ruin my thick three.

I think that's Evans coming up on the outside.

Are here comes the. 1767 is my exact and here comes the 8:00.

Come on. Come on.

Six, seven, eight, nine, six, seven eight.

Nine is the order of finish in that race and reset all for

those horses in my pick. Three avoided, I remember about

that race. We got Megan's favorite horse,

though, coming up in the our cheapest takes hold on.

Oh, she's got to get there. I was watching my top pick.

Oh top two picks win. I'm shocked that so I'm a

samurai. You know what?

Let's not know. What are you doing?

What you said receptor? I think you might be.

Today, we're in the eye Shiva. I'm in no buy myself.

Something else. You okay, but because he has to,

oh, I know. Okay.

Oh, oh, yeah, dismissive dismissive of Mackenzie.

There was a little, there was a little moment.

I need a pause. Let's do this race after the

break. You want to take a break early?

No. I just want to talk to crane

crane either. Oh, yeah, I'm here.

How do you about this? Right?

I just take this across the board there. 6321 there was

aboard. Yep, five dollars across the

board. Again.

It creates never met Megan. He's told he's just totally in

love trying to make money for cream.

Is this the most money like for my father's money you've ever

made? There was, I'm trying.

Derby prep, like way back in like in like March or April that

I won a crap ton on and I'm totally blanking.

What it was. I think I think it was the

Louisiana Derby. I had Wells by you and I had an

exact on it. That's good.

That's good. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah, and I want a lot on it.

But yeah, this is definitely up there.

Yes. All right.

All right. She's been good so far.

He's been good. I mean, I won't compliment or

too much but I'm getting front. I've got a text from my buddy's

like yeah, I've stopped listening to you.

I've just been me. That's because this is this is

what we all want. Exactly.

Oh, good. Good, good.

Can we hire a runner? So somebody can bet for me

though? Because I'm so busy talking to

you guys that I'm here we go. Come on, here we go.

Here we go. Here we go.

I'll say time and already just I need a runner for a podcast.

I get out of here. Where a radio show.

Now. We are a podcast.

You can find us on all Doesn't play platforms.

The horse, the horse racing Kappa, / at horse.

Happy her on Twitter and you can hit us on the UPS jobs tech

line. 43 796, Louis. Let's meet our three four

through seven nights. Let's get to our train wreck of

a trivia question. Let's go.

Oh, yeah, hang on. All right, he's got it.

He's got it. He's got it for the trivia

questions that Megan's unprepared for.

I'm just watching my horse who I picked this one winner circle at

the picture taken by Cody photography the official.

Yeah. We need to mention that while

what Churchill Downs, while Louise looking at up.

Because Cody, coat listened a lot of Like those get their

Derby. Winner pictures, right?

And so, if you want to do that, this, you can go to Cody

photography, you put in the promo code, cheers, 20.

And you get 20% off if you spend over $40, ya $40 or more.

So there you go. Yep.

So what photos. I've got a team of gosh.

I forgot how many days I think 14 photographers here.

They usually have double that for the big days.

So they've got every single angle covered.

That's occurred including I think like a plane.

That's Have as well. No, like what actual plane or

helicopter taking photos from above.

So, I mean, that's where you want to go to get your photos.

They are the official track photographer of Churchill Downs.

So, are we good? And the connector?

Because our spelling coad. Why Cody Cody photography.com?

All right, Lou, what's your question?

All right. So Sir, Barton was the first

Triple Crown winner. Yes.

How many wins did he have coming into the Kentucky Derby?

This is we are talking about lightly racehorses that you

don't want to be here. How many wins did Sir Barton

have coming into the if I remember he was heavily raced if

I remember, right? I can't remember their about

1919. Of course.

Okay, we're going to head to break.

We will be back. This is the horse racing happy

hour and we'll see you on the other side.

Welcome back to horse racing. Happy, our pre-race coverage of

the Kentucky Oaks right here on ESPN Louisville.

Now, here's Mike, Megan and Louis.

Alright, welcome back to the horse racing.

Happy hour. Should we will answer the trivia

question, but we got some breaking news, I guess.

Also, the same time. So we did the trivia question

real quick. Louis remind us about what the

trivia question was. So tricky.

Question was about the 1919 Champion Sir Barton.

He was the first Triple Crown winner.

They didn't call the Triple Crown at that point, of course,

but how many races had he won prior to arriving at the Derby

in May Mike. Go ahead.

Now, you want me to guess Megan? Guess on this one.

I guess the last know you guess. I think you should enjoying.

I think both of you should just scrapped for these.

I'm gonna go with 66. Okay.

All right. Megan.

Well, I have two guests to it's less than 60 3.

Zero what? Sir Barton broke his Maiden in

the derby. Awesome.

Wow, and won the Triple Crown and then won the Triple Crown.

I mean, we talked about that. I mean, it to your point about

whether or not these horses, like are gate, even if are gay,

would have been because he won the Traverse, okay?

In this year's scenario, in this year's ignition timing scenario,

right? And we apologize by the way, the

the water pressures a contractor's right in front of

us. So that sound you hear in the

background. We are live on site, so very

much. It's what you got.

We were in the elements. We are, literally like the three

people. Oh god.

Well, there's one guy over there.

Like, four sections. Talk about social distancing.

It's like this is we're 20 times that from the thing closes,

both. I mean, I importantly to Bourbon

kills covid. So we're, I wouldn't want to run

to the netbook closest person. Yeah, it's it is kind of creepy.

Let's get to darrenrodgers is obviously listening to the show

and can you It is cream like that.

So we got a statement about the My Old Kentucky Home being

played before the Kentucky Derby and Megan's trying to pull it

back up on easier. If only I could find it because

other Derby media. Anyways, it they are going to

play it. Yes.

They are. Let's see, Churchill Downs, PR

at Derby media. Said after careful and careful

consideration, My Old Kentucky. Home will be played this year

prior to the He Derby. However, the 100-year tradition

of singing, the state song of Kentucky has been thoughtfully

and appropriately modified and will be preceded by a moment of

silence and reflection. What is modified made you think

take out the bad versus what, but they don't seem too bad

versus, do they know the bad verse has been taking a long

time ago. I agree.

So, out of the verses that are There is weep no more.

My lady of adverse. It is not.

I wonder what the bad verse is. Is this a new trivia question?

No, it's part of its part of the fourth verse.

If you know, Texas, what's the text on now, they're literally

5024 379 680. The UPS jobs text line for 379

680 and or tweet at us at horse. After this is the horse racing

happy hour and you can find us on a regular shows.

We release every Thursday on any pod casting platform that you

basically want. Great got a great text, it from

Andrew who's texting him from the 9 to 5 megapixel paid for my

college. My kids college 13 years

earlier. I say thanks buying sunglasses

and shut up. Nice.

I'm Shady veins. That's awesome.

I'm glad that it's worked out where actually legit nice like

this. I'm really trying to figure out

that what, what verse they would take out or what they would

modify from what we already sink.

You know, what's really interesting to me on this.

So I'll make this opening Sports a little political here in that

they sing My Old Kentucky Home before every loo City FC soccer

match. And that is a crowd that

politically leans very much one way.

They have pride jerseys. They have black lives matter

armbands on every player they kneel for the anthem and the and

My Old Kentucky Home is sung before every match and we sing

it like our Arm when covid side around and hung to the point

that there was a match at Slugger Field that I was at

background. I've been a season ticket holder

of the local minor league soccer team humble brag, but no, no

drink drink. It's all cracked it.

Soccer the I love soccer, I get it, but I've been soccer minor

league soccer. The We sing that song and we

sing it loudly. And one match the speaker's

broke at the baseball stadium, where they were playing soccer.

That's how much of a humble brag.

This isn't by the way and we just kept singing.

So now they start the song and then after about five or six

seconds, they stopped playing and then the rest of us finish

the song. So I if they can play it there.

I don't know why they happen here.

But well there was one year where with the U of L's band was

playing but this the microphones weren't picking it up or

whatever else and the crowd had to carry the team.

It was pretty awesome when it happened.

I you know, I think they're making the right decision.

Obviously. And I think the moment of

silence is right decision. I'm good with all that.

There are the modifications, right?

Yeah. This is 100 Years of singing

that song apparently, and he, and he said at the right way,

it's the state song of Kentucky, hundred years of seeing the

state's on Kentucky. That's what it comes down to.

Okay, let's go on to the alley. She mistakes.

Is this the horse racing? Happy hour.

Pre-race show, The Alley Sheba Stakes is a race that we were,

we were going to talk about a kind of fast, and it definitely

requires a little bit more discussion because this field is

loaded and it's highlighted Again by my standards in this

race. MacKenzie's in this race.

Mackenzie is kind of known as one of those Derby.

One of those horses that everyone's really looking

forward to getting to the derby. He got hurt early in his

three-year-old career. Maybe even late in his

two-year-old career. It was yeah.

It was really nice. Huh.

Contracture leaving, huh? That's why he was not even sure.

He's exam. Bony.

Yes. Yeah, and so there's all there's

lots of horse racing memes with you know, the guy with his arm

around a girl and looking over his shoulder and checking out

another girl Meg always put Mackenzie as the girl and

baffert's looking at like, you know, whoever was at the time

was justified. It was justified.

That's right. Yeah, but we got some horses

here that you're going to know. So we got we got Owen Dale who

is was in the Preakness last year?

Mackenzie and one the blame is doing this year.

Yeah hits. Hence is in this race.

I'm just kind of giving a little bit.

It's right in the Pony Express. Mr. Freeze been.

The been in was mr. Freeze in the derby, maybe not.

But he was definitely the mat Mi doesn't 18.

I think he was, he was do. It doesn't show up on his past

performances, which is I think. Yeah.

So looting. You were really excited with

this race. I am excited.

Very excited about those rights for sure.

And tell me why Mackenzie misses the board, that's enough.

All right guys inside joke for people who listen to the podcast

solid inside joke, but it's also not going to happen here with

six horses. The what's interesting is I

actually like here's Scratch by the way in this race, but our

litter let's add more. Hence actually.

Well, there you go to express. Now we're getting texts about

the anything to read on the air. Not, I can't read anything

shocking, the, all I did was read.

The press release. Donut people are pointy.

Pilar pointing out what, what parts are offensive.

And I'm quick to point out that those parts have been removed by

state law, right? Okay, so they're already out,

which is why? Yeah, which with that's not was

our question, but I think I want to be really careful careful

that I that I'm not sure that there aren't other parts of the

song that are now offensive, right?

Because things, the example, I always think of Barack Obama got

elected. He was anti-gay marriage and

then he changed his stance during his presidency during his

first term, right? And so things change over time,

what is acceptable? And what is socially normal

changes over time. So I don't know if more parts of

the song, obviously, references to slavery, or to what people

look like, you know, their skin. Every we have better

sensitivities about those things.

Now, I don't know if some of those parts of the song are

still bad in that way, or if we eradicated those things or not.

I simply just don't know. No one has a response for me.

So I'll just keep talking. Okay?

No, I but the I think that was that was Mike's question was,

was this is a modified version. The version was already modified

in the space. And so that I think that was

the, yeah. The question was, we're getting

a mention to with the modified version.

You know, what is now, what is continuing to be the issue with

that? Is just the song overall,

because it once was or is there still reference of being gay as

being happy? Sure.

Yeah. As of now?

No, I don't think it is. I think people still understand

what that maybe they do. Maybe they don't, I don't know.

So they should, they should understand that.

Historically. That's what that word means.

Happy men's right in some some form at least and so yes, I

think we shouldn't have a huge diatribe about this.

But but yeah, they're going to sing it.

That's what people need to know, but it's going to be accompanied

by a Moment of Silence. Exactly.

And so as part of it so to us that's an acceptable outcome.

Okay. So back to the alley she was

takes place by the way, the show is to popular because Blowing up

for Grace's is now the the wedding favor in the eyes Shiva.

No, they're even there even work when I checked.

It's a little bit ago for Grace's, our wealth, even money.

I switch back over the Monday, both are even money and yeah,

highlighted portion of the graphics is switching over

between the two of them. Okay?

Well, it was just purely when I checked it was for Grace's was

whether so on the Alley Sheba steaks.

We do have scratches again, the four horse hints.

This is raced in and Bodie Express.

Eight. So we're down to six horses.

There. MacKenzie's in here.

Does is this a McKinsey by my standards?

Come back? We're gonna have a, what are we

doing? You have another conversation?

Okay, why is voting special reason?

It's not him scratch today. Why is he in any race ever?

What are we doing? No, it's not that it's, yes,

there. Are there know why isn't this

horse gelded? What are we doing at me?

Like, what are we doing? Well, yeah, there's a good

question. I think that's a solid question.

But the thing about racing as there are there is Racing for

all levels of horses, you know, so I just, I'm confused as to

why they can. Jinyu to race him at these

higher level, the expresses not a grade two horses, Churchill,

but that's what I mean. You can still race them, but

just not at this level. It's too tough for them.

I'd be like, putting your kid. That's maybe not a smart and all

the advanced classes all the time.

Like let him be where he's gonna succeed, you know, get Megan

back in those remedial classes. Yes.

That's right. All right, I didn't ask math is

not my strong point. I have to come right out and say

that. So no, so it's a wildly

interesting. It's just an interesting

conversation about these. I think three horses.

Okay, there's the third horse in here.

I think Owen Dale's interesting here.

It's okay. And on top of all when Dale

actually think mr. Freeze is wildly interesting.

And so I'm interested Pace wise what we get here because mr.

Freeze is going to try to be up front in his more successful

races. He lost a by my standards at at

Oaklawn, this year in the handicap.

I think by my standards, in my opinion, is a better horse than

Mackenzie. Hmm.

I don't know that. That's a widely held opinion.

I think by my standards is a better horse.

She humped, like, she's going to say something different when I

get off. Why am I saying?

This is 75 and MacKenzie's, 825. Obviously the Mike Battaglia

thinks that these horses are pretty darn even, right?

And so, I personally think that by my standards, Right now isn't

just better. I think he's a couple of lengths

better than Mackenzie. And so I have the six on top

here and I think if you're trying to keep it up your

tickets today. Single in the alley Sheba by my

saying? What you're singling.

No words. There's no way.

Did you just say that? Yeah, and I can't go there with

you, either on that one. Oh my gosh.

No. No, I mean, also, I think it's

important to note that first of all, because I also just saw it

again, but this is a great summertime starts off the

two-day to dollar pick-6 with Oaks and Derby, which is a,

which is really interesting that if you want to play both days

combined, but what's more important is the mile and a

sixteenth distance that this is and that Into play when you're

talking about Mackenzie because he's been in a lot of classic

distance races at a mile and a quarter, you know, the Breeders

Cup, Classic, the Santa Anita handicap, he still finished

really good s that day, the Breeders Cup Classic again the

year before that. I mean, I think he's been racing

at distances that have been too long for him for a while.

So the fact that we're getting back to this mile and a

sixteenth. I actually I think it'll be not

a. Why to them?

Why? Because he's a modeler.

He's a Miler. Am I on the 16th is?

He's the son over, just the last time he ran in.

The race. There's a 1, turn by the way.

He wanted. There's been that was a tough,

right? That was a very tough race.

Right here. It was.

He had to work out a trip and Tom say, Tha who's slated?

As you know, the top horse for the Breeders Cup Classic this

year was in that race. He beat him.

One of them is right and seeking the soul.

So I mean I thought that was an excellent field last year.

There's some other person there to that.

I can't remember. But I absolutely think you have

to use McKenzie. And here now, I'm really liked

by my standards as well. He's been more successful at the

mile and an eighth distance. This Only seems like it fits

him. He was the buzz words for a

really long time for last year's, Kentucky Derby, the way

he trains over this track here. At Churchill Downs is amazing.

He's definitely been able to kind of settle himself down a

little bit and rate comfortably which he had some trouble with

early on in his career. But what's so interesting about

this horse is even though he trains like a freaking monster

here. He's 0 for 3 at Churchill Downs,

which I think is an important thing to come second.

Why is there? No, I mean, he's right there.

He's absolutely a very talented horse.

Yes, and I mean, look at the workouts he comes in with, when

I say he's working like a monster August 28th.

He worked for furlongs in 46 and one, and when he does it, let me

tell you it's easy. So, I absolutely think that you

have to include both of those horses.

And I mean, for a long time, maybe you can take a horse like

I don't know. Silver Dustin here.

Okay. You wow.

Souter. That's the one I like that.

It was actually be a really nice price on that horse.

So we're just the one is right now.

Well, in the program's 12:45, I don't know what the it was a

two-horse race in the In the in the Foster here, this year.

Yep, but the third horse was silver dust.

If he runs a little bit better than he did there.

He'll be a factor. But what about Owen?

Dale seems right thing, right? No, he wants new seven legs

back. Okay.

Okay. Yeah, he was, he was out of it.

No, I like Owen. Deal better than I like silver

dust, but that's only because the windows had success here.

He was buying silver dust to be fair in the this evening, in the

Foster here. All right.

So so going back to the McKenzie conversation because that Milan

16th conversation is important. Portent.

Because the 16th of a mile is not much in distance, but it

does change the distress from one turn raised to a turn to

turn, right? That's where I'm at.

And I don't like MacKenzie on two turns.

No, he won this race last year. I'm tutoring.

He did win this race last year. Yes, but he's not going in that

kitchen. That I'm not that was I was

well, I mean, I'm not with you on that rather.

And that was not the easiest trip for him.

Really wasn't. He ran a 10-9 speed figure.

I mean, listen, I think right now where he is in his career.

He's a 1 turn horse. I'm going to go.

Louie. I do like by my standards here.

Better than I like MacKenzie, but not a single but not a

single. So in vigorous, it should be

illegal. That's a talented race without

questions, car to scrap so glad. All right, the 11 races are so

glad. We're back to the lodge win,

which is a, which is the grade one a mile and 16th again.

And this one though is where Phillies, a four year, olds and

up word. It does, this is always a great

Race, by the way, and we got horologist in this race

vexatious. She's a Julie we had some and of

course model ago. Girl, yeah, and mon amour, girl,

like in sixth or seventh spot, lady Kate.

Who is a finalist. Yeah.

Lady k. 14 times this year. We're going to have a very

similar conversation about Mama girl here, being a to turn race,

versus a 1. Turn race, are we or do we not

ours? It's Mom or girl.

No matter what she is single. Yeah.

The only other horse I have written down that.

I really like, here is vexatious.

Like, I like vexatious a lot, but that's based on very recent

II. Put her second as well.

Yeah, I agree with you there. So 82 is kind of where I'm at,

eight to one. I'm chalky here in this race,

but I think you also have to talk about is she's a Julie.

Okay, because you know, she she this is like Megan angle coming.

I just want everyone, Megan angle.

She was, I'm gonna guess this accomplish.

This horse was wrapped up last time.

Didn't really run that hard and is ready to fire this time.

Sorry, for all that background noise, by the way, there seems

to be some setup going on. So, Trying to get that, but

she's a Julie is back with Ricardo Santana.

Junior, who, you know, is knows her.

So well. We talked about this a couple, I

guess it was back in May, right? We are tips.

Yeah, and, and, and well, I think was even the race before

that we might have talked about. And we were unimpressed with the

way that she, you know, was in that race, but Ricardo wrote

her. And what I pointed out was the

fact that he was able to wrap up on our so, it says 6 beaten by

13 lengths. However, it was because it was

an intentional. Move he realized that day.

She didn't have, you know, the best start, maybe the best race

she was coming off a layoff and she needed it.

So instead of using every ounce of energy that she possibly had.

He said, all right, let me save her for the next time and then

she comes back and wins by a nose integrating one and

Belmont. So Ricardo knows his horse very,

well. He was not able to get to

Monmouth last time for the grade 3.

Molly Pitcher. Jose Ferrer was on because of

all the restrictions with with covid-19.

So she's a Julie back was Ricardo Santana back here at

Churchill Downs and, you know, Horse that absolutely fits it.

This type of a level this type of a distance.

She's 5412 at this distance. Can you believe that this is

Martyn Williams girls? First grade, One race of the

year did could win a great to Ruffian back in July.

I don't, you know, I don't know. I I'm gonna be interesting to

see what they do and Mom will girl wins it for yourself just

staff. Had a little bit of a break and

then didn't raise again. Till May, they kind of brought

her back similar situation. You don't know how horse is

going to come back first time off a layoff.

They went to an optional claiming race down a Gulfstream

Park. If I remember well, yeah, those

hipster job where he was protected.

So she was not eligible. You claimed, it was right over.

Let's get a race in her. She actually surprisingly sloppy

track that condition and they actually we're able to get her

into a good spot and then they put it on the turf.

No. No, I'm not, it's good.

It's a good there. Oh the the dirt track Jack so

she's head to not ideal track situations yet in 2020.

This is the first time on a fast track here in 2020, the first

time in a grade 1. You know, it's funny, you say

Turf because actually she did run on the turf here at

Churchill Downs. And a long time ago, a of 2017

and she won that race to. So it doesn't even matter right

for in-service. She's on but I think that that's

the same conversation for the track condition.

I don't think it matters. What the track condition is.

She's why? I just think she's the best

horse. She's undefeated on enough

tracks. You're right about that.

She 749 on a faster track. I mean look at her records.

She is 11 for 13. This is an excellent.

Excellent, excellent horse, and she has been training like an

absolute monster. In fact, I do.

Point out, she's actually been training with.

I think it was two weeks ago. I know she worked with her.

I'm not sure about the one most recently, but she was working

with Brad, Cox is Oaks horse. She dares the devil and I

thought they were working heads up, meaning that they were

working competitively together. So if you like the, she dares

the devil as a bit of a long shot for the Kentucky Oaks

coming up later on. Maybe that's a reason to play

her as well. Alright, we are the horse-racing

happy hour Louie. Let's get to our trivia question

2 in the The second hour this show is flying by.

We actually got a couple minutes here.

So I'm actually going to give out a pick five right now.

Okay, based on our picks of what we've just talked about here on

the show. And so we haven't talked about

the Oaks yet, and we will spend a fair amount of time on that.

Yes. Course, but if you start your

pick five here in race, a, with one and seven, and then Megan.

And I both agree that sharing in the next race, is a single.

Yep. So in the first race, 17 race

eighth, race 9, the three, I think Megan and I agree.

It's going to be chalky and Race 10.

And we'll end up on the to McKinsey & 6 by my standards.

Lots of favorites in this thing. That's making me nervous.

And then do we single Monomoy girl again hundred percent and

then we get to the Oaks. So you're this is choc choc choc

choc in the Oaks. We've got, you know, it's very

heavy. Favorite to heavy favorites and

then you got a horse. Beings besmirched a little bit

and speech. So I think what you can do here

actually is if you play at 50 cents at six books, don't play a

$0.50 do, big play for a dollar statistically saying that we're

not going to have that many favorites at the hit on that.

I disagree with you. Only in that on big Stakes days.

It's been chalky this year. It can get real chalky and we

have tremendous horses here. Today.

The card is awesome, the cards, awesome, and those horses are

awesome. All right.

So before we go to the Review question.

I'm just going to say for the Oaxaca me nurse was skydiver.

And I want to know where you're at.

Megan. Where you at curbing movie.

So scanner. I love it.

Where are you? That's what's got it.

All right, but I'll make the case for speech when we get

there. Well, and I again as she's been

training, really looks good. Yes, there's a lot, there's a

lot to like about speech. All right, so our trivia

question here Louis. All right.

So horse-racing happy articles about out again, 17, then the

three, then 26, then, eight. And then 145.

I'm including speech in that last one just in case.

Are we get lucky on that? I'm sorry horses are coming on

the track right now for the for the race.

All right. So we Mike and I because I like

to talk about this. It's one of my favorite things

to talk about. As far as the Derby.

How many horses have finished the Derby in under two minutes.

Ah, uh-huh. This is a little trick question.

And what are their names? Oh, and what are their names?

Okay. All right.

All right. So we that's what we got.

How many horses have finished? The Derby and under two minutes.

And so two names. What are their names?

Because the Over under for the Derby, this year's 2003.

And I'll tell you what, the way that this track is running right

now. I'm going to go over, I'm going

to go under. I'm thuy underwear, even though

we don't have a ton of speed in this, in this Derby.

It doesn't matter. It's all about the payers,

plenty of pay. So there's plenty of paste.

Okay, so we'll be right back. This is the horse racing.

Happy hour. Time.

Now, for Kentucky, Oaks pre-race coverage with the horse racing.

Happy hour right here on ESPN. Louisville.

Here's Mike, Gandolfo Megan Divine and Louis Robo.

All right. So the last hour of our pre-race

special here for the Kentucky Oaks.

We're going to be back here tomorrow for the Kentucky Derby,

1 to 3:30, basically taking you up to the Horse Racing Radio,

Networks coverage. And then as soon as the Horse

Racing Radio, network is off, which is basically right after

the race. We will be back on for some post

race. If you want to join us tonight,

we're going to have, we're going to have two hours of post-race.

It looks like we're gonna be on till 8:00 is what it sounds

like. Essentially up and tomorrow.

We will be doing at least an hour.

We got some Freedom there some, you know, flexibility to kind of

figure it out. Depends how long the inquiry

takes after the Derby except that, that was it.

That was real last year. Mean.

I was real. I'm on the are trying to figure

out what's going on and like, it's it was yeah, we watch the

race and we head downstairs and everything's different.

Yeah, it was incredible. So I thought I won money and

then I didn't so it's pretty much.

I was there blood. In hundreds of dollars.

Yes, sir. Not that.

I'm still mad about it. But we did get on the Oaks last

year. And this is it.

We typically Louis, would you say that we typically by the

time we get to this weekend, almost get more excited about

the yolks from the field. Yeah, and this is no different

before we get into this Oaks field though, because we got to

really start focusing here. Let's go ahead and get to you

want to do race their team. Let's talk about the last words.

You want to your trivia questions.

All right, trivia question for the trivia question.

Yes, the trivia question was is not following their show.

I know I'm listening. If you would just read the show

sheet, Louis and cream would listen to her, when we go to

break. Everything will be okay.

Hey, I was listening. I threw it to break and then I

just didn't put the commercials in.

You know, everything on are sounded great, which is most

important. So put it out there, the two

horses that have finished a sub 2 minutes.

Derby. All right, and so I'm going to

ask Megan who's yawning because she's so bored with his show.

She can't handle it. Not it.

I've just been waking up at 4 a.m.

So let's hear one more story. She gets.

She's been working hard. All right.

So what are the two horses? Megan?

Uh-huh, that have finished a sub 2 minute Derby.

She's shaking her. How there's there's three that

is false. Actually.

There's two winners. I want you to check your fact

cuz I think that I think when secretary one, I believe the

horse that came in second finish under two minutes, huh?

That is not true. It's not true.

No, not true. Here we go.

Well, I was going to get Secretariat for sure.

Yes. That's right.

You know, the Whelan, I know the other one is one that I talked

about a lot as kind of a joke because they, you know, they did

the virtual Derby this year, left them out and they left him

out. And I'm like, how do you leave

the second fastest Derby? Horse ever out my narcos.

Oh, yeah. So now, Mike's making me wonder

yet. This says Derby winners.

You're right. Okay.

So your sense is that I've got the horse and I can't keep what.

I can't forget. I'm forgetting.

What is sham. Right Sam.

Yeah. That I believe she Imran the

Derby in less than two minutes. Interesting.

And so, how by the way, I thought the catch was that

Northern dancer ran the race in two minutes flat.

Okay. Okay, 1964.

So. And then spend a buck in 1985,

rented in 20, or 2 minutes, and one-fifth seconds.

Are we in danger of having another one this year?

I don't think so. Just because of the pace of the

race. I think this feels like a 2012,

me, right? 2002 and change.

Okay. Yeah, all right, to, to Lolo, to

to fit some like they have it again here to Louise Point,

like, you know. Oh, by the way, shut up.

We got we had someone texting a shout-out to drink here.

Where are we? Max out of her business Derby.

Like from New Jersey's. Listen to live.

He says, he wish he could be here in the 609.

He had secretary and he had my darkest.

I think I'm sure you're on the Stream, So, we appreciate ya.

So, there again, horse racing, happy hour.

You can find us on your favorite pod.

Casting platform. We really shows every Thursday

generally, you know, recorder, 4:00 depends on what I'm Megan.

Went to show up scribing. It'll drop right?

Subscribe to the property with Divine time, Define time.

Yeah, it's on the bottom. Yeah, it's a little thing and my

family. What am I?

What am I gonna do tomorrow? I was, I was on time today.

No, like my family, gatherings, at least on one side.

It's they're like, yeah, you know, dinner will be at 6 or

whatever, definitely not even takes every year 9.

It's that's how it goes for one. You get a text message.

We're all one. I'm a mile away.

Which, by the way Away, her sense of distance here, sets of

time were the same. Well, I literally, I've never

lived further outside of Louisville, as I do not know

sir. That's why I like my living here

for six years. You know, I'm like, oh, it's

like 20 minutes away and it's actually double that now.

And so I always not like I said, I'm not, I'm not good at math.

I don't know. Alright, so let's get into

these. Actually, we're getting ready to

have the the eight Bells go off. I believe, therein day.

So let's talk about real quick about the Abell.

So this was a refresher pics. Yeah.

So the refreshing on the eight bills was your so Conversation

about is the one in the seven of us raised about for Grace's in

Monday, called you're coming in here.

One, your conversation about that pick at pick Fabian.

So chalky made me nervous because I just don't think it's

going to happen. That way.

I just think class going class because we talk about career as

gone glass. So I played that one.

I paid as a $1 pick 5412 and I kept it at 50 and I spread the

horses a little bit more. So I added I had its constant in

this race, maybe the five. Yeah.

And there I think that this is one where this could where we

could see the upset. Well, we certainly see about

that. I thought that silver.

Prospector was a good one, a good long shot later on.

Okay. There you go.

We talked about. Okay, I think the, the Crux of

it is the second race with sharing being a single Franklin.

Yeah, to me being the one horse in there.

That's the correct. Because if like, a walking

America's jumps up in their race, then we're in trouble.

But we are often the one in. The seven are already 75,

lengths, ahead of the field. That's that yak.

Why? There's a lot that you could

drive a car between the horn and seven and they're socially

distance. They are socially distance on

the backstretch and they're gonna And Wisconsin is in dead.

Last bid. By the way, million digits.

Did you check these horses out of?

They came on the track, and did anybody staying out to you?

Or do I was talking to you guys, but I think in this seat just

like, yeah, and and then why she's never looked away from us.

And this scenario. There are certain reasons why I

think looking at horses is more important than others made in

rhesus. Definitely qualify for that.

I thought it would this short of a field with these monster

horses got tongue knowledge of yeah, I just didn't feel like it

would help him stop. Oh my god.

Listen after historian Megan. Amazing.

Is this guy right here? Look at thatmy, Pick 5 is a lot.

How about girls there? Like, it's Consul fractions

were, oh my gosh. Look at that.

Scott's, when your Fastpass 71 sconce and wins that race cream.

You can start listen to my picks instead of making.

There you go. You missed one, one, two jump.

My pick for because degeneracy because the Genesee because it's

been a boy down. All right, we're going to skip

the Obscure talk about that, the rest of the way.

So we're going to do the the 13th race.

The race after the Oaks is actually a Stakes race this

year, to the great tutor Sprint presented by Cisco.

Are you Churchill? Does this all you besmirching

Cisco with the stakes races in the last race?

And I really enjoy that. I know we've talked about that

before. Yep.

With with KK KK. Ya know.

I appreciate. Yeah, I mean again, Then if we

had a crowd, you have a reason to stick around, right?

Instead of the Oaks is over and no one just leaves the mean

yesterday. I love when they do that.

Yeah, it's great. And you got a huge field here.

You got a full field. I don't have the scratches lead.

You got to scratch this yelling pull.

It is the for Bound for nowhere, which is a massive scratch and

the 13 tiger blood as well as the 15, high crime.

So, Bound for nowhere was 321 on the morning line, probably would

have gone off at it, even shorter price trained by Wesley

Ward. This is a horse that's raced all

over the world. He's raised in France.

He's raced in Is race here in the US.

They actually wanted to send them to Australia for their big

Sprint, race called the Everest, but he was not selected because

it's kind of like the Pegasus that we have here is a Bound for

nowhere scraps. Anybody can run in the Kentucky

Derby but no one can run at, you know, okay.

All right. It's a different format.

They have SWAT holders. Sheriff.

And you have any kind of its different?

Come on. I know you by your side.

Yeah, II don't know about you Louis, but I don't want the 5

and the 2 is my top selections in here.

I think the five extravagant kid is seven to two in the morning

line is gonna be much shorter than that because Inferno, where

is scratched, but this is a horse who's been super

consistent over the past two years.

Like the turf here at Churchill Downs.

Seems to be one that can come from both off the pace or, you

know, stock a little bit closer to it.

Plenty of turf Sprint experience, graded Stakes

experience. And in a field where a lot of

these horses are have been racing at the allowance level.

I just thought classical class with him.

And I also threw the two in there, well labeled because I

don't know he's been racing. Well at lower levels.

But his numbers to me kind of stood out a bit and and I like

the fact that he's showing he will show a lot of early speed

we're Bound for nowhere is out because you have quite a few

horses that like to sit off of the pace in here or deep closer.

So I just felt like could it be a possibility of a, you know,

he's out there in front and just holds on got it.

I don't hate that actually as a. Wow.

As a picture. Let me just say that he did.

Yeah, he did. If you guys listen to the show,

you know, that Louis like immediately tries to besmirch,

which is also big Fix which, by the way, I'm always right about.

So the not true. I think if you're looking at a

horse, like, well, labeled, you should look at a horse, like

diamond Hoops actually. So the one in this race can be a

2-1 Frenchy on the mount here. And so many of the best speed

figures for Diamond Hoops here, running race 13 are at a shorter

distance. So I like that.

They're shortening. This horse back up to something

like fire on dirt. I understand.

But I like the move to. I like them over Turf here,

actually for Domino's. And so we're going to find us

too because on this Earth at something.

What's up nothing. I'm just messing.

No, here's a 97 speed figure on Turf already.

I mean, no. No, this was runs.

Well on Turf and so I like going to be.

I think he's gonna be fine. I think I think more than to

look at like, well labeled has been running and I don't know,

75 thousand dollars. Okay.

We just never mind. Let's then move on to the to the

star of the show. The Longines Kentucky Oaks the

great one, 1.25 million dollars for Phillies three year olds in

Up. Louis.

This race is really good to us. Last year.

We are huge fans of searing getting a so good.

So we will either way. Shout out to Matt Lee printing,

not sponsor the show, but they do all my printing.

The owner is like, hey, I need a horse, could eat a horse.

You know, they said, all right. Here's what you do.

You take Serengeti empress and then you bet the hulkster be

double. So he did a twenty dollar Oaks

Derby wheel. Wow.

Well, so seeing a all all and he got country house.

So it's so he had to buy bags to carry all the Oh my God, shout.

I would love to know, what did they pay you every idea.

I didn't do that two grand. How he did it.

Wow. Wow.

All right. So we've been, we've been, we're

gonna work. Let's not go horse.

My horse. We're going to, let's hold the

mean. Let's hold speech.

And let's hold Swiss, guys divert to the end.

Okay, do we want to do this? So typically what we do in our

derby shows, we start eliminating horses.

So we do you want to eliminate somebody Actually just horses.

I like in this field. So like um, I holding the wrong

sheets and pulled my right shooter.

Look at Donna veloce. For example, is a really

interesting horse to me and it's 12:45.

The three horse in this race, really?

Super lightly race. Ya beat speech.

The last time out. Yeah, that's in any te.

So after I stumbled start. Yeah, and so I'm kind of

interested in a novel has a double-digit number here today.

So that's not an elimination. You're going to eliminate her,

absolutely nothing. So I think, for example, the

three has to stay here. I've been hearing a ton of Buzz

about tempers Rising the to which makes me want to eliminate

tempers Rising because We Buzz means bad.

Alice likes her a lot. That was like the other horses

that we bet on. Well, I'm just saying, so

actually, he had mentioned something to me when I went to

go do her stall shot. They it's been kind of a long

journey with her. You know, she she took a while

to graduate from those Maiden levels and she does seem to be a

little bit paste dependent. So keep that in mind meaning

that she's a hard, you know, a deep closer and she needs a lot

of speed horses in front of her to get her best result, but she

actually Tallaght, after the race at Fairgrounds.

So that's why she's got a little bit of time between from March

until May. And then she came back and just

had a terrible effort that day. I'm pretty sure they had another

issue to have been a few obstacles, along the way that

have prevented her from having that kind of racing consistency

that we'd like to see, then they brought her back in her soft

spot at Ellis and she probably should have won that race.

She was the favorite, you know, it was lower-level allowance

race, and it was over a muddy racetrack.

So I'm not really sure what to make of that but in Dallas

Stewart fashion, you know, this is a trainer that constantly has

horses finish a huge freaking prices.

You know, that's true. The top three.

That's what he does II. Don't know it.

I feel like it's this is this seems like one of those races

with the top two horses that we've talked about Swiss guy

different can mean that, you know, are we going to see big

balloons and that third spot and could it be this worse?

Okay. Are you see perfect but to win

the Kentucky? Oh, no, I don't I don't like to

win but could could hit the board but not to win, right?

Temperature rises and you're looking for a huge long shot at

52. Want to maybe more than that?

By the time they go off, you know, if you're a long shot

player out there and you want to throw a couple of bucks across

the board, possibly. That's yours.

I'm just saying there's some valid excuses for some of the

reasons why she performed. Sure.

I mean, here's the deal, it took a long time for the breaker

maiden and it's been even longer since she's got her second wind.

Yes. She has it yet.

Yeah, so but that win was here at Churchill Downs.

So, you know, that's something we said, so we're going to

eliminate tempers Rising as a winner of the Kentucky Oaks, but

someone that could hit the board.

Okay, like we're comfortable that.

All right. Are we going to didn't go to

various degrees? - I agree.

No your vanity eliminate and you want to give anything of why

this would be. Would this be a horse that you

would consider that could hit the board?

I mean, to her credit, she did meets with skydiver here at

Churchill over a sloppy racetrack, you know, in a

allowance optional claiming type of a race, but her graded Stakes

performances have just been very disappointing, you know, and

that's why to a horse like, tempers Rising has it been a

long time. Yes, but she still finished

second. She's grade to placed.

You know, where, as a horse like this.

She's been well back. I mean, I'm sure, she's place

too because she finished third. I don't know.

I And think that the Indiana Oaks was as tough of a race as

some others in here. Okay, another horse that was in

that, you know, it's what she dares, the devil and the toys

are very talked about, but it has won 22, straight times out.

One the great three in the end, Oaks one the great three.

Honey. Bee, what do we think about

what? Talking about class levels here?

And she dares the devil is in the second class.

Yes, and that's okay, but she's not in the third class, like,

viruses know, but she she is available is a lot for exotic.

See, I remember very best day is a major problem on the structure

of Brad Cox. And he is such a great trainer.

He we're all here. I'm he wins at 24%.

I mean, this is the jockey trainer combination that got the

win with Monomoy girl in the Kentucky Oaks.

So, you know, I did not originally have she dares the

devil on my radar. I just did it.

I thought that she was a class below like you said the rest of

the the other horses, the top horses that were talking about

in here, but watching her on the racetrack every morning she is

just been Sure, how she's Ultra consistent.

She like I said, has been working with Monomoy girl.

She's been super strong. She just, she looks fantastic

out there. And so she kind of caught my eye

whereas, you know, physically looking at her.

Whereas before I wouldn't have given her a second.

Look to face austerity or Churchill Downs.

I mean, yeah, I mean, I think that's a longer shot that you

have to consider it. Nobody can get a word to perform

at a higher level. It's Brad Cox.

Right? Isn't he included in one of

those trainers? We talked about that with Chad

Brown. We talked about that with Bob

baffert. I mean, I think Brad Cox is

included in that kind of conversation that Mike and I

talked about Frenchy all the time.

We really trust him at Churchill Downs.

So here's the thing about you years, the devil.

She has got to, she's generally speaking.

Had to be pretty close to the front.

Okay, there's there's in the honey bee she came off from from

5th. Did she's not going anywhere.

Close to the is the only way that a horse upsets Swiss

skydiver into mean is if this if there's a hardcore closer

because they push a pace that they just can't handle, either.

One of them is she dares the devil, the horse, and come off

the pace to do that. Do you think?

I think that could be Swiss skydivers downfall?

Is that she tries to go with, give mean, absolute kind of like

hamsters have kind of number, but I don't think you mean could

survive that either. So that's the scenario, we have

closer. Yeah.

Everything has to fall apart for that to happen.

And I don't, I don't see both of those horses falling apart that

way. I mean, does that put you at a

more on a horse like Donna veloce?

That's me. I mean, cuz she sits just off

the pace. I agreed on of Lotte is more of

a threat of that than she. There's a devil, for example,

and so that's why I brought her up first, but you can't leave.

She doesn't have a lot of your Exotic.

It will speech try to go with G tears at work that gummy and

swisscott ever as well. Yeah.

You're probably right behind right behind.

Yeah. I think she's gonna sit in the

same spot as Donald J. Yeah, it's good for 500 horse.

Here. It just depends.

It really depends how fast giving breaks out of here.

Okay. What about could we eliminate

hopeful growth? No, you cannot eliminate hopeful

Gravely. Why not?

Okay, go ahead, man, I mean I do appreciate that.

She won the grade 3 Monmouth Oaks last time out.

Although, I mean, I think we we talked about that race on the

show and it seems like maybe not a graded Stakes race.

I think the field that we saw in there was not up to Snuff with

some of the other grade three races that we have seen and

besides that, she's in the allowance levels.

I think she's you talked about Louis the, you know, the third

groups of horses. One, two, three, I think she's

absolutely in the Okay, she's hoping the allowance lover.

That's where, that's what we're eliminating than you.

I mean, I'm not like I like tempers Rising more than I like

and probably by your nest. But I liked a rising more than I

like. Hope for growth and hopefully

growth is 32 1. Whereas tempers Rising is 50.

Yeah. Okay.

Dream Marie. Can we eliminate dream Marie the

nine I can, but if you like gray horses, you cannot.

There's a part of my neighbor Murray who's very excited about

the stores dreamer. He's a great horse.

And then there's actually two great horses.

In the Kentucky Derby, it's worth the actually, no, 32 33

near traffic enforceable and oh my gosh, winning impression.

Well, there you go. Okay, so we really have a

limited dreamer e. We've eliminated baroness and

tempers Rising hopefuls group. Hopefully helpful growth.

Leaves us with this group and now tell me Jimmy the scenario

of the guess. We're gonna mean because go

means the favorite. Give me the scenario.

Will give me the mean wins. It's going to be it's me wire to

wire. That's the only scenario will.

Give me ones. Is that right?

It's the Serengeti. I press option.

Yes. Yeah.

Where did you mean get beat? We kind of talked about just a

second ago. She doesn't switch leads after

the second turn. She gets tired on the second

turn. She goes out too fast.

Remind me whose on giving Johnny glass was written under the past

two times. So that's not a problem.

I was just going to say, he's gonna be able to restrain her.

Is he strong enough? Oh, and now that he's, he's led

her to monster speed. Figure numbers.

I mean, you know, that's right. No.

No, she'sshe's a favor for a reason.

I mean, she is a dual grade one winner.

She is a mile and seven furlongs and that's what makes me

nervous. I think that the other way that

she loses assets with skydiver, just turned out to be the better

Horse and Rider down on the stretch and I could happen.

And great horses. Do that.

Right? And they just do nothing.

Are we leaving out the conversation though?

That, yes, so Swiss guy, never two races back, raced against

the voice in the Bluegrass at keeneland's, which is a horse a

derby prep race, and she had her second, very good jobs art

collector, who unfortunately scratch out of this year's

Kentucky Derby, but Swiss skydiver also is coming off of a

mile and a quarter race. I mean, the way you talked about

last time out with comedian coming off of a seven for a long

race, but I mean, how is that? How is that something you can

hold against gonna mean more? But I don't hold.

I dial on a quarter against with skydiver.

I mean, and also it wasn't that was August 15th.

I mean, it's only September 4th. That's not a lot of time between

running a mile and a quarter and then coming back into the

Kentucky Oaks against a monster. Like mean.

I just I think that there's a possibility where Swiss skydiver

is maybe a little tired. Interesting.

Okay. That's a big-ass.

I mention I mentioned after all really I mentioned after that

race that I felt like that was really more of like a mile. 63

is because she didn't have to do much the last bit of that race.

That's correct. So, I think, once you switch

leads and she was in the stretch, she was kind of just I

saved her for sure. They'd be, I think in the race

call even mention about it then save.

Yeah, I mean so. So that's where I would come

back on on the tires are but I don't know that you're wrong.

That I actually disagree with Mike.

Mike was very fervent about. You mean should have gone to the

Alabama. I thought her prep was totally

fine. I think going seven furlongs in

just getting your legs stretched and running and doing it as

fine. The mile and a quarter is not

something that we ask for them. Milan a excuse me is not

something that we ask most Phillies to do all the time.

And so I don't think it means going to make her career at a

mile and an eighth and so that she has to do it one time

doesn't really bother me. I think there's a clear

delineation between the top two horses.

If you're right though. That means this is right for

good men to get tired at speech, to snatch this thing.

Maybe it's a long shot but or Donald hello.

Jay is there and she's ready to go, right?

And so if you're right about so skydiver, this is a much more

open race than I'm thinking. Yes, but it seems like you're

pretty subtle last year was, though.

I mean, this. This feels a lot like, like,

last year. Okay.

Yeah, get away. So you're getting a was eight to

one morning when she went off at 12:47, right?

I will certainly never forget that hate for many things.

But the, but I don't think Donna veloce is Saint.

Denis McDonough veloce is not. So you're getting it for us.

And, you know, I think the bigger concern to me with Janine

is, again, the one turn to turn thing.

And that now, you're going to turns at a negative.

It's a full exhale. Yeah, go ahead.

Go ahead. I mean, Swiss skydiver.

Swiss skydiver could be tired because that race was not that

long ago, but Swiss guy diver has a ton of experience in to

turn races and she's shown up and she even showed up in that

Bluegrass. Yeah.

So, you know, there was a conversation for both.

These horses have been in the Kentucky Derby and I think it's

rightfully. So first with skydiver, I think

I mean, would have been a great horse in the Pate mom.

Interesting. I will say that the other horse

that impressed me physically, has been speech for a longer

price. She also has been very

consistent out there. Don't know if you read anything

into this because, of course, it's this year.

You can't really because of the travel restrictions, but, you

know, the pandemic and all of that, but my, I'm sorry, Simon

Callahan. I don't believe is here.

I don't know what you give me this.

Give me this ring area, Donna veloce.

How does it work? That we go kind of hurry because

we get to lose question. Give me the scenario, where

speech wins this race. What's that?

What how does the race have to send out?

She's able to sit just off the pace.

She's perfectly drawn in the Four Hole.

There's a lot of speed from either Donna veloce.

I mean and Smith's kind. Well, I guess it was Scott ever.

Yeah, so skydivers well and then speech is able to just sit off

of it and make one run late at it.

Michael McCarthy is he or she's been training really well.

So I mean, she's not without a chance in this particular field.

I will say that could mean has been very relaxed as well in the

Barns and training and she just seems like a classy classy

Philly which of course she is. It will grade one, winner.

I thought Swiss guy Devon. I don't know that this is her

usual Mo, but she's been a little washy in the mornings.

And so I wish you would be a bit more relaxed that it could just

be a personality. She's Chestnut Philly.

And sometimes they're just like that.

Redheads are like that. Yeah, exactly.

You know. Yeah, Mike, just like that.

Redheads are just like that. All right.

All right, Louis. We gotta go to break.

So give us a question. You trivia and then we'll go to

break, but I just love that. There's so many different

possible. In areas for the Oaks this year.

Like it seems there are every year.

Yeah, right. And so I remember last year,

last year, talking about the Oaks good, what, five horses we

liked. I mean you and I really like

Serengeti about, but we thought there was a lot of cyber six

horses. We asked year this year, feels

like three or four can, which is awesome.

So the Derby feels less like that.

Absolutely, right? And so, you know, we on the show

one of our mantras is fall in love with the Phillies because

they're going to run forever as Mayors and so fall in love,

those fillies and the Make you love them.

Love them and keep watching them as early as their older as

mayor's. All right, so stars of this

sport, usually come out of the Phillies, embarrass the

long-term Stars this portrait, if the ones that you get to

watch year after year, and so. All right, so our trivia

question going to break here who as a trainer as one the most,

you know, never mind. I'm going to do a different one.

Okay. We were talking about a possible

Longshots sneaking in. Who is the longest shot on the

board to ever win? The Oaks.

I know Mike knows this one because I know the Trembley.

I know the trainer not too terribly long and when that long

ago I can't remember the horse's name.

So what is the longest shot to win?

The Oaks in Kentucky Oaks history again?

Not too terribly long ago. So don't rack your brain on the

1980s or something like that more recent than that.

For sure. Yeah.

I was way recently during the break.

I was excited because I thought I knew it.

Yeah. Well let you answer first after

break. Okay.

All right, even if your can s anywhere even if your left, your

phone thing is over your right ear, you know, you know, it's

all right. We'll be back.

This is the horse racing. Happy hour.

Welcome back to horse racing. Happy, our pre-race coverage of

the Kentucky Oaks right here on ESPN Louisville.

Now, here's Mike Megan and Louis.

All right, we're back. The horses are on the track for

the Edgewood Stakes. Louis how much time we got looks

like about five minutes, 56 minutes.

All right. This is where we had a lot of

interest in, you know, the Lewis and Megan.

We're going to we're going to single sharing and I added in A

horse added in good spirits in my pick five, really like that

worse. Yeah, so we'll see what happens

here. So, all right.

Louis the question now, I know I'ma let Megan maker her, her

guess I know who the trainer was.

So the question again, just in case you're joining us.

Thanks for joining us. This is the horse racing happy.

Our weekly podcast comes out on Thursdays.

And then of course, do Oaks and Derby coverage when we're here

in Louisville. Could be doing pretty nice

coverage. I'm really hopeful that in

Breeders Cup, then we're gonna let us and yeah, you know, just

it's Really covid dependent frankly, and so whatever.

So, find us on Twitter at horse happy hour, but I asked the

question. What is the longest shot to ever

win the oak? Since it feels chalky this year,

who knows? We got a couple of 51 dogs long,

a shot to win. I'm not going to ask you for the

actual odds. Okay.

What was her name? It was Todd Pletcher, and know

what? Nope, and princesses Sylmar

because I had her. I better.

So the reason I went with this one is because it's trained by

who Michael Dallas steering wheel.

Steering lemons forever. Love is forever. 2006.

K47 21 4701. It's a nice chicken to have your

princess Alomar, one when a terrible, guess what?

So that Year, by the way, to Dollar Bet paid ninety six,

twenty in the to Dollar Tree. I paid 12 Grand.

Nice. There you go.

By the way, I bet it on. I bet on Giacomo.

Just well as you know that, but it legit handicap Giacomo as the

winner of the Derby that year. I can't remember why.

But This is Giacomo. What?

And I want a humble. Brag that room 2005.

I'm not know, but I'm just on my birthday.

On your birthday. Yeah, what I get you for your

birthday this year. You got me some glasses, some

bourbon Samari solution. Oh, that's right.

I actually actually they're very lovely and I left them in

California. Probably you do a great job in

that order Solutions. Thank you so much.

I really appreciate. I really like doing voiceover by

the way, malleable and freelance lemons, remorse lemons for

outing myself limits forever, her kids include forever.

Unbridled forever, perfect, forever and forever, perfect.

Uh-huh. That's annoying.

But actually all those horses Wonder exactly know when you're

interviewing like I did because I definitely screwed once but I

was interviewing her perfect the owner.

Yeah, of course it was though unbridled after bridled one.

That's like that's like All right.

So we're going to we're going to finish up our hooks talk.

Let's make our official Oaks picks.

We talked and we talked about everybody, we need to talk

about, I think so. So we're going to go to green

first screen. You heard us break down the

yolk. So let's get the official Oaks

pick from you. I know, I'm the amateur on the

show, but I just I can't get past the mean.

Just how visually impressive? She looks.

Yes. I know the one turn raises.

I know the distance was shorter by.

Can't get past. Give me the Bob.

Baffert Factor also plays a role in that, for sure, for me.

Yeah, I'm all on. You mean.

That is it? That's a good take.

I mean, it's a good thing. We've been riding to the

Winner's Circle all day, man. So yeah, those just keep it

going. I love it.

Megan. I we know you're going to be

going with your boyfriend, Bob. Do you dress like the other day?

But there's a picture that funny that Meghan put on social media,

her and Bob, were together, social distancing.

Of course, we're wearing the same thing for an interview and

help that my lens is too big. So I needed to be that far back.

But, but yeah, I know it, Bob. It is like, always in Darker,

wash jeans, and a white button-down shirt.

And that is, but I was also wearing, all that effort was a

hipster before. How many, like I'm I wonder how

many of those he has. I imagine his closet has been

Paul white shirts on the top and I call Crest jeans on the.

Gotta. Let me get to that point where

I'm only wearing the same. I want to wear the same thing

every day, every day. Yeah, just like, take the

decision ever heard that Jerry. So, you do your dad's shirts

every day. I wear this.

I'm, I wanted a juror this. I know that.

Did you say you both look very nice, by the way, I'm wearing I

am wearing pink today. You are.

And I got I got some pink socks. We are we've got to make sure it

know, it's pink. It's it has pink lines in it.

It's mostly purple that it has to be one.

There's no purple. It's pink and blue.

It is overall purpose overall like a lavender.

Anyway, lilac color so much needed, you know, so one thing

that we lose today is like we don't get our parade, the breast

cancer survivor parade. And I don't want to forget

about, you know, how important Oaks day has been to breast

cancer, breast cancer, research and celebrating women's women

who have Fought against breast cancer and you know, just just

want to keep that show. Louis.

If you're thinking about something today that you could

do in the fight against cancer, just on this station alone.

Bobby V, of course, is involved with the Kentucky and a friends

of V. So K F0 V Dot org, if you wanted

to jump on there, they just had their big fundraiser.

If you wanted to jump on there and make a make a donation,

that's a place that you could do that.

So, you know, if you've been following Megan's pics, maybe

you can make a donation Chucky and a friendship that was

actually so coach V, which I call him Coach v.

He's always gonna be coach for you to me because I was on his

staff when he was a Bellman and he made the comment this week

about how my son is named after his dad.

That's right. And it's a true story.

He didn't really finish off. We were up in New York for the

Jimmy be classic, and that's what we were up there for.

So, you know, for cancer research and we went into his

high school gym. We saw the name, Rocco, Valvano.

I love the name Rocco. I literally that we can also

called my mother-in-law and ask for permission for me too, you

know. Proposed to the redhead, what

could you? And we were young and you know,

but it's been a great decision. I've never regretted it.

That was a crazy trip. Up New York couldn't get anyone

to go to a Rangers game with me. I really want to do that all,

come on, and I ended up G. Let's go through up and Rutgers

is delicate. So cool thing happening.

Actually. The Starting Gate is right in

front of us where we're sitting. I love watching starting Gates

break right in front of us. That's a cool thing about where

we sit here is because the Oaks is going to break right in front

of you, right in front of us, the youth polls right here.

We'll get to watch that. We got that video last year

because that Force fell. Yeah, it was scary terrifying.

Luckily. She was okay, but Yankee, but

yeah, the what is this, the edge?

What is the edge with everyone's getting ready?

There? The last force is loading in the

gate right now. Jaden will be get ready to go.

Nice, easy load. Actually is everybody knows

nobody acting up. So this is improbable is not in

this race mode. Express was already scratched

from this one and they're all sharing.

Is he sure? He is right up there and so's

one. Right explode.

Yeah, and there's one one had a beautiful warm up that horse was

show it a lot. I'll tell you what, I would not

be upset at the 11 this race. I think I'd be pretty, how much

did you spend $18 on my about? How much in this race?

Oh, I just did the pick five. I'm gonna pick five, I do but

three-in-one, this race. Would you have three in one?

Okay, great Lego people watching at home.

Thanks to horses are up front. He's hoping there's no closing

on this. Turf.

Mr. For out, race here at Churchill Downs.

All right. So Megan is ongoing mean Mike.

Do you want to give your pick for the?

Oh, I am on. So skydiver must stay there.

Okay. I'm going to also stay on Smith

Center. Yeah, I think she did 2 & 2.

Yeah. To into, that's why I'm sure I'm

not going to be shocked if giving has a huge number and I

agree everything with Kareem said, you mean is

impressive-looking. Yep, and but I don't want to

downplay how impressive I think Swiss time skydiver is as well.

And, you know, and I'm not going to be.

I'm not going to be terribly shocked Louis, if we have a

really bizarre. Longshot come in for some

reason. I don't either.

It's just the weight of the piece seems to be setting up.

You have to think that it could be a possibility and these

horses are coming around the turn right now, down.

The stretch sharing is going to try to take the lead here.

Looks like sharing is in the lead.

Just barely here comes the 80 and the for the ones dropping.

I think the ones done. Yep, but it's a deer comes a for

the to in the for Sharon's. Got a to length sleeves.

See if she can Get that one out of hold on.

Mike is bad. Yep.

Shane wins this hangout. Good single and Arie up.

The floor would have been good single if you were still doing a

lot of hip-hop, right? Did you think I did not single

but also allowing the pick five? Okay.

Well, yeah. So let's we you can't do one of

the great bet you mentioned it earlier Megan or Luis, mentioned

it about the the hulkster bedevil.

So we got to talk a little derby.

Yeah, we do. So one of the things that we

love about doing this podcast Louis is that it forces us to

kind of pay attention, folks, horse Racing's landscape the

whole year and this has been a very just bizarre, however

things unfolded, and the horses that aren't here and Every

person horse that has that has been on top of the mountain.

Let's say has fallen except for Tesla law.

You don't you disagree? No, I tell you.

All right. Totally.

But used with different carbon Fallen.

They've all Fallen. That's true that you would not

say the word breakdown and Fallen.

I didn't say break down that earlier, they but they are.

That's why I shot your phone off the mountain.

Okay. Listen, you got California like

horses. Don't die out here like they do

in California. Okay, conversation right now.

We're not gonna have that conversation.

So and by the way, they've done a great job.

Correcting that problem to some hundred.

Yeah, I could about California, a lot.

If you listen to the podcast, Louis Creek kids about Saratoga,

I kid about, yea. I'm rice, anindita yourself.

You're slowly right? What's that?

I'm right near slightly, right? So the and you get our show is

the horse racing, a PR. You can find us on any podcast

platform and we release on Thursdays.

So we hope you kept for Saturday's ISO - Maurice on

Saturday is where your handicapper handicapping

helpers. Yes.

So I really think Megan though, you know, you got it.

There's a lot of respect that has to be for that.

Fact, that is a law has been able to perform and perform

extremely well in every spot. He's need to be and be able to

stay at where he's he's very sturdy and durable for a

three-year-old horse. 100% And he is extremely smart as well.

I mean, even just just being around him in the barn area and

watching him. I know matter bourbon though.

He is very You know, he's still a three-year-old.

He still has some quirks but he's extremely smart.

He takes good care of himself. He when he is out on the track.

I think he's very conscious with his movements.

Sometimes we get some of these horses like, actually improbable

was a good example of that who are just a little mature and

immature mentally. And there have been a few along

the way. I can't remember all of them.

But that really goes into play in the Kentucky Derby because

you are racing against a lot more horses.

You do usually have, you know, the crowd Is that goes into it,

the big track here at Churchill Downs, the rain that we've had

for the past five years, whatever it is.

There's just so many additional factors.

And, and so, I think that mental prowess really comes into play

and not only is his law, obviously physically, very

talented. Because you can see that on his

race record. He's 6 for 7 and has been just

super consistent, but mentally, he's there too.

And that's super important. And the six or seven.

We got to, we got to mention the one that wasn't was here was

here at Churchill Downs and We mentioned it before.

There are some horses that flat out just do not like this track.

I don't think that's the case with him though.

Do you? I mean, it was third beaten by

3/4 of a length and it was a sloppy Racetrack and it was just

you know, I just think that was a yeah II.

Don't think I was a bad effort. It's a small blunders on a

nearly perfect career. Okay, and again going to like to

those and I don't they obviously don't probably apply as well

this year, but there's those Those Derby kind of like you

have to be undefeated 23 year old.

He is undefeated the three-year-old that loss was as

a two-year-old. And I don't again, I don't know

if that matters as much this year or not.

He checks all of Jenny Reese's Derby winner boxes as far as

fractions and last fractions and those sorts of things and

running a distance and what have you?

He also checks the box, that's never existed before which when

you get a mile and a quarter before the Derby.

And so no, there's no reason to just like to the law tomorrow.

If he loses, it will be because it's the Derby and there are 16

horses. And things happen and we've seen

Mega favorites lose here before. So, that isn't something that

can't happen here, but it would be surprising in the points are

of he did lose. So, if you're playing your Oaks

Derby ticket, you're going to single.

Give me nice. It sounds like from or would you

take? Would you be give me an answer

with skydiver on that? Well, now, that we've talked

about it so much. I feel like that.

Now, I'm scared. This would be a long shot.

All right. Yeah, we will eliminate some

horses from that. We have.

We have sufficient for me, but Dallas was in there.

I'm going to show that on dialysis horse.

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, exactly.

The thing is you, if it's that chalky, if it's going to be

convenient is the law. You're not going to make any

money, right? So do you take a shot and put

in, say the four horses we talked about as serious

contenders, or some long shot, possibilities tractor, stop by

photos and Oaks and then, you know, and then you just take

his, the law in the derby. So it's so that's my question, I

guess. And let's not say a single give

mean but ago, mean, Swiss skydiver folks, is that a or at

is All single, which one is more likely to get upset.

What does that mean? I think the Oaks who's which

race is more vulnerable, which favorite is more vulnerable.

Both know if you can be both of those horses.

Like, do you just gave me both? I said, which one would be more?

Yeah, you get both horses in yoga other one, either.

One of those that's even money than to me.

Yeah. Yeah, because I think both in

both scenarios, I think his law. If they run, this Derby 10

times. When 70k, and I think, I think

he wins eight if they win the, if they run the Oaks those two

horses win seven times. What do you think?

I'm wrong? I think I think I don't know

which ones more vulnerable because when you're giving me

both horses, if you were just like it's just give me and I

think she wins 40 percent of the time, right.

My thing on the Derby is if it is the law doesn't win.

I don't like the next. I'm not a big fan of the next

wave. I'm not a non do not think

Authentics. I think you can you can

eliminate authentic based off his post position.

I think he's not wearing blinkers.

That's enough. Another inside joke to say that

I will say though that he has seemed to come into his own a

little bit more mentally like he schooled in The Paddock the

other day and I kind of expected him to be a basket case and he

wasn't he was actually not going to be anybody here know.

I know what helps them, but max player went and schooled and he

was very up. I mean he I went back to the

barn after that to do a salsa and he was just like what I

mean, he was a bit frazzled. I mean he's gorgeous and he

looks great training over the track, but I don't know.

But anyways, authentic major years ago right coming to his

own, if he would have been in the 18th spot.

We would have had 175,000 people here and he had that drought

noisy are different been way. Different different runs a mini

earplugs, though. Oh, does he, I don't know what

that matter. You don't think they have

before. You doesn't it with his.

But I mean he did with he did with American pharoah.

He did with, I think arrogate he does it with his better horses.

A lot of horses. I should say, I keep on keep on

getting drawn back. I'm not an honor DP fan either.

He's looked so good though. I oh my God.

Yeah. Oh my God, Buzzy Buzzy.

I have besmirched him. He has his version all year

long. And and now I saw him train on

the track all week long, and I just was much as he has been.

So impressive Merchants night. I I'm really curious about

thousand words and I'm curious about thousand words being Megan

shaking her head. No, it seemed like Bob did a

reset on his horse. And I'm just you know, I thought

I thought in the shared belief thousand words look really good

obviously beat on her AP and that race.

What why are we shaking her head on a thousand words?

Because King you're almost gonna win the first drink because I

authentic is definitely the better chance for buffer for

Bob. About Wofford offer.

That's a combination of Bob and effort for baffert to win.

This this race. Well for Pfeifer, okay.

Well, why don't you like thousand words?

That didn't, what do you not like about a thousand words?

And I'm thrown out. Listen to me.

This is thousand works. You came out.

He was as the two-year-old. He was kind of the hot thing,

and there are things that Los Al you have to take.

They are not Of the same caliber as some of the other California

Reese's. I mean, who do you run against

he beat? I know to or I feel like that's

another drinking roll the show, then he was in the grade three

Robert P. Louis, which is a, I mean, which

one of those horses have you seen right a graded Stakes ever

again? And then he finished behind

authentic in the San Felipe and honor EP.

He goes and it listed Stakes race at Oaklawn sloppy track.

He doesn't ship. Well fine, but he doesn't ship

well and we're in a difference in.

Let me ask you a question that he's out and then he comes, the

low Soldier be again low Sal. Then he wins the shared belief,

which is a, you know, list of states rights and honor.

In there, too, but he'd already. Well.

Let me ask you this question. If then, why isn't Uncle Chuck

here? Because Uncle truck perform.

So terribly at Saratoga. Okay, I just think that about

Bob was going to bring thousand words here.

I think he thinks he has a chance to win.

And I honestly think that he took, I'm throwing out

everything that happened after the Oaklawn million dollar

purchase. You have to bring him to the

derby if he's qualified points. Well, everyone's qualified this

year, right? So I'm I don't think what

happened. Those Bob did a masterful train

job. I have a feeling, I don't know,

inside baseball or anything like that, but I think he kind of

took this horse. He had a little bit of a break

between the Oakland state. And De La Salle Derby, the La

Salle Derby was the first race off the left, the layoffs.

And then we're seeing this horse kind of coming to his own and it

was a total different thousand words that beat honor AP.

And at Del Mar and the shared belief.

We just got a great touch. All right, let's hear it.

Can you not read it? Okay.

Okay, and I'm again, just saying horse that entry is this the

year that kids hockey finally gets College GameDay, that guy's

either listening to NS, or just, I mean, just it's hilarious.

I, it's both to me Kentucky's, head college game day for

football. Yeah, or for basketball.

Yeah. They they did.

It was for Kentucky for today before the game was back in

2007, by the way. All right.

So let's, oh, Kentucky. I believe wasn't even top 20.

In the AP poll the year. They technically claimed a

national championship. Nationals are okay and actually

it's not. It's a like they said to clean

natural changes something like actual recognize - we don't you

talk about that right derailed the show.

So if it's not chisel, all who is it?

So for me, if it's not just a law, it was going to be king,

Guillermo. I'm going to go if it's not just

lost a thousand words. If it's not, it is the law.

It is. We gotta go quick because we

gotta if it's not just the loss. I feel like it is authentic or

on our AP, which is so boring. Why don't why?

No, I don't like this year's Derby for that reason.

I don't want to bet the three to five favorite.

I don't want about the second or third choice is the second half

the fields bad and let's Louis. Oh, max player.

You just told me how over a mix there was a year ago next really

bad time. He did that when he came in,

said this isn't your pic right before we started the show.

I remember what works it was. And I was like, I don't think I

picked that one. He's like good and then he picks

the horse on the show. I was like, okay.

Okay, Louie Louie. What you like?

Now, Max player that do a legend.

I misquoted. I'd like I think I mixed up

horses actually. Okay, I don't like major fed.

I think you meant I do like max player.

Okay. Well, I think you do get

distance. That's a difference.

But if you want to, besmirch me, feel free and you love Ricardo

Santana. Junior.

Also this right? Yeah, right.

Give me Stevie. Are we gonna get?

Are we going to get a first-time winner for a jockey this year?

I mean, obviously many friend you'll be a first-time winner.

Yeah. Yes.

Okay, because it's gonna be many more than likely.

Okay. Are there any concerns about me

Franco riding this horse? No.

No, he's written them all year and done very well.

He's been tremendous. Okay.

I think we just had something my head and I have no idea what he

said. Say it on the air.

Pretty fast. Okay.

We're out of here. I hope you like listening.

We are going to be back here tomorrow, and we're going to be

back here after the Oaks today. So, do you have to tune in

tonight? And I will create one o'clock

tomorrow before the Derby post race for that.

Is this the horse race in happy hour?

Thanks a lot cream. Will see you too.

We'll see you later tonight.

Horse Racing Happy Hour
